Chris Reavers
Hail the flashlight king.
Joe Soucheray
And now, from the mayor's office above the boathouse on the east shore of Spoon Lake, it's Garage Logic with Chris Reavers manning technology cornering, Kenny Olson from the crabby coffee shop, John Height in the newsroom, and of course, the rookie here is your flashlight fireworks commissioner and the keeper of common sense, your mayor, Joe Susher. Let's see what indignities I have to suffer today. Kenny, did you get to Ashby?
Kenny Olson
I did and I. Oh, I, I have a full, full report.
Joe Soucheray
All right.
Kenny Olson
Ashby, Minnesota.
John H.
Yep.
Kenny Olson
Starting with just a question for you guys.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Who do you. Where do you think had the most vehicles parked last night in Ashby? Would it be in front of the. The Legion or in front of two baseball fields?
Joe Soucheray
The Legion baseball.
John Haidt
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
I'm going with the lead.
Matthew
I was Legion was the first thing that popped in.
John Haidt
Me too. Yeah.
Chris Reavers
Baseball.
Kenny Olson
I have never seen so many vehicles parked at a baseball game.
John H.
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, one.
Kenny Olson
It was out of town town, like, like there was a, an auction or something. And it was two kids teams. Little little kids, medium kids. And these folks were sitting right out in the hot sun.
Matthew
Wow.
Kenny Olson
Not a tree in sight.
Joe Soucheray
Then they went to the Legion and
Kenny Olson
then from there I went down to the Legion. What do you think the main vehicle was at the Legion. Would it be a sedan or a truck?
Joe Soucheray
I'll say truck.
John Haidt
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Well, that's a trick question. Of course it was a truck.
Chris Reavers
Ford F150 Ford or Chevy?
Kenny Olson
Yeah, right. Ford, Chevy and Ram. So I did prepare a little. A little report on Ashby. Ashby was actually founded in 1879 by a hescher family. A Hescher family. The Duels Nair and Nev. Yeah. And they were out of St. Paul. Their local sportsman's club up there. Instead of being called the Ashby Sportsman, they're called coots Unlimited.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, that's interesting.
Kenny Olson
Interesting story on why they became coots.
Joe Soucheray
How about the flag? That's all I really cared about. I don't care about the coots.
Kenny Olson
They used to have an annual carp feed, but one like rookie did this one year Lake Christina went dry and Pelican Lake filled up with coots. So they went out there with nets and market guns and harvested a couple of thousand coots and they cooked them up in the park and they've been doing that ever since. The only community in. In North America that actually has a coot feed every year.
Joe Soucheray
Those are ducks, aren't they?
Kenny Olson
Those are bottom feeder ducks. They're all black with white beaks. And you can tell it's a coot because they swim like this.
Matthew
Oh yeah, really Like a turkey.
Joe Soucheray
That's a good.
Chris Reavers
For those of you listening on the podcast, Kenny was motioning his head forward and backwards, right?
Kenny Olson
Yes. Now on to the flag.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Found this interesting. And I hit every single street in Ashby except the one that was under construction because my truck is nice and clean and I'm not going to follow it up with nasty Ashby dirt. I don't blame you because Ashby's are cretins, right? They're not to be trusted. There is one big giant original. What do we call the original true flag? The true flag, unfortunately it's not flying in front of city hall.
Joe Soucheray
Okay.
Kenny Olson
It's flying just down the street from city hall. A big beautiful, wonderful house with it says Happy 250th on the wall.
Joe Soucheray
Oh boy.
Kenny Olson
There's an American flag. That's huge. And then the true flag flying out there, that's just down the street.
Joe Soucheray
But you're suggesting this is a private
Kenny Olson
home from the city. As far as I can tell, it is a private home. And I hit every. I went to the parks. I believe there's two. I went to the veterans memorial. I drove all over Ashby. I did not see any other flags, including in front of city where there was only An American flag flying.
Joe Soucheray
Well, then I think Ashby remains on the crawl. They're flying the true flag. The people Ashby are flying. Good enough. That's close enough.
Chris Reavers
Wait a minute.
John H.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
John Haidt
You are.
Chris Reavers
You realize the can of worms you're about to open now?
Kenny Olson
Joe, I want to address.
Joe Soucheray
No, I don't care. It'll irritate that fruitcake.
Kenny Olson
The guy that hates you. What's his name?
Joe Soucheray
Harry Henry. By the way, I think.
Kenny Olson
No, no, no, no, no. You have to let me finish. I, I me in danger. I. This guy is my best friend. I agree with everything he says, including when he insults me. Friend, Nobody hates me more than me. Except maybe you. But I do want to be your friend. So whatever Joe says has nothing to do with me.
Joe Soucheray
No, this guy, I'm convinced he's doing a bit. It's a bit. Anyway.
John Haidt
Silence.
Joe Soucheray
We're going to say that Ashby stays on the crawl.
Kenny Olson
I love.
Joe Soucheray
Thank you. It's a good report, Kenny. Very.
Kenny Olson
That I gave you two references that flew by all of you. That makes me very happy. I'm hoping.
John H.
Yeah.
John Haidt
I have to go back and listen now.
Caller/Guest
Yeah.
John H.
Well.
Joe Soucheray
What? Come on. What are you doing?
Matthew
He's doing the eyebrows.
Kenny Olson
This is. You know, maybe, maybe if you read a book. Matthew?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Could you do me a favor? Borrow Joe a book. I will do if he had a problem.
Joe Soucheray
Don't lend me one. Hey, Mitch McCon. They got him on a strapped to a two wheel dolly and they just wheel them around and stick them in. Yeah. Is this Weekend at Bernie's or what is this. Is he alive or dead?
Matthew
I couldn't tell.
Joe Soucheray
I'm reading a piece by Ken Klippenstein. I don't know, but John is familiar with it.
John Haidt
Yeah, he's a political pundit.
Joe Soucheray
Well, as 84 year old Senator Mitch McConnell's witness protection grade hospitalization nears its fourth, a key deadline looms August 3rd. Under Kentucky law, if McConnell is declared unfit for office before that date, there's a special election to fill out his term. After that date, the seat sits empty until whoever wins the November's already scheduled race.
John H.
All right.
Joe Soucheray
In a political system run by the sage leaders that people like McConnell imagine themselves to be, he stepped down so voters could have an orderly election decide for themselves. That's. That's not what we have in this country anymore. We have the government existing for itself. So instead there we have a mad dash for partisan power. A longtime Capitol Hill source tells me. Meaning this author. Congressional Republicans do Not want to risk a special election. Fearing GOP voters might nominate a MAGA candidate over someone friendly to their party establishment, Kentucky's Democratic governor, Andy Beshear has now entered the phrase sending McConnell's office a letter requesting a health update, a first step, potentially, to appointing an interim senator and flipping the seat blue. All right, now, so there are Republicans in Congress who don't want a MAGA candidate, Is that correct?
John Haidt
Yes. Yeah, correct.
Joe Soucheray
But they still have no balls. Just like the MAGA people have no balls. The Republicans who don't want a MAGA candidate are balless. They're microscopic balls. They haven't done anything.
Matthew
They got the Hitler syndrome.
Joe Soucheray
So what's the fear?
John H.
The.
Joe Soucheray
The Republicans are keeping McConnell propped up and pretending he's functioning. So they don't. The MAGA crowd. What is it? The MAGA crowd wants a MAGA candidate. How about Massie? Could he make a comeback?
John Haidt
He would be an anti MAGA candidate, though, right?
Joe Soucheray
So wouldn't the congressional GOP want Massey if they're anti maga?
John Haidt
Oh, I get your point. Okay, well, I would think so, right?
John H.
Yeah.
Matthew
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
In the meantime, the people of the country in Kentucky, what, they don't count? You don't worry about them. This is for. The third rail will decide this. Do we have any notion of McConnell's wife, Elaine, is it?
John H.
Chao.
Kenny Olson
She's already remarried.
Matthew
Elaine Chao.
Caller/Guest
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
She went to China because then she didn't have to sign any documents.
John Haidt
She came back.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, she's back.
John Haidt
She's back already.
Kenny Olson
She's back.
John Haidt
She. Actually, what I read yesterday was on the trip when he had. Whatever. He had this episode, and then she stayed there another two days and then came back.
John H.
Right.
Joe Soucheray
Well, so we don't know anything more than we did three days ago or two days ago or what's.
Kenny Olson
What's the larger story here about the way we, the American people, are being treated by both this.
Joe Soucheray
That's the larger story.
Kenny Olson
And Biden. I mean, this is both parties, and they've been doing it for years, and they're all in favor of term limits until it comes time to discuss term limits in the House and Senate. And then we have to do something about this. This is ridiculous. He should have been out of there 40 years ago.
John Haidt
Is there any way, though, that they can. That's almost four weeks. August 3rd, which is the deadline. They can't keep this seat. I mean, within four weeks, he's got
Joe Soucheray
to come out and say, oh, no, you can get. You can. Guy. You got drugs, really? Oxygen tanks. You can keep Them blinking, you know, you could, you can, you can get him to fog a mirror every once in a while.
John Haidt
There have been a lot of very funny posts by people who are, shall we say, opposed to Mitch McConnell saying, well, I talked to Mr. McConnell for 20 minutes yesterday. That's become the standard phrase. I've talked to him for 20 minutes and it's everything that he would be against. So.
Joe Soucheray
Well, it just boils down to the public doesn't deserve to know his condition. Yeah, you know, the hell with the public. Well, that guy in New Jersey, Keene, he did the same thing. Yeah, he got paid for his three months absence while he was being treated for something. All the hell with him. Who cares? I don't care.
Matthew
You're not really into his.
Joe Soucheray
I, I, I, I, it's over. I mean, this, this, the way we govern ourselves is over because we're not being governed. We're being corralled, we're being herded, we're being gaslit.
Chris Reavers
Whatever, okay, Whatever it is, we're being it, we're being tricked.
Joe Soucheray
Do you think the founders envisioned a situation where a representative in the Senate or House would just disappear and then the public would not be told of it?
Matthew
I don't think that's what they envisioned in that hot room in Philadelphia, were they?
Joe Soucheray
I don't think so either. Krista out in western Maryland, she agrees with John and I that she uses, she selects her stamps depending on who she's mailing something to, and she's done it for us in the past. John, she sent you something one time and it said it had some musical stamps and she sent me one one time that had baseballs on it and flags and whatever. So she's glad to discover there are other people who have brains that work as well as hers.
John Haidt
Oh, good. Thank you, Krista.
Matthew
That is an insult.
Joe Soucheray
The rest of you morons, you know, you run around and hope somebody's got a stamp you can borrow. Someone's got a stamp. Did you catch that one? Did you get that reference? I got it.
John H.
Yeah. Nice.
Joe Soucheray
I promise I'm not going to blow the address again, you know.
Chris Reavers
Jesus, he never buys any smoke.
Kenny Olson
No, I just have regular American stamp flags because I like the American flag because I am an American and I am proud of it.
Chris Reavers
Can I ask a question?
Joe Soucheray
No.
Chris Reavers
Do you think that the person that receives said envelope looks at that and says, wow, Joe thinks that highly me
Matthew
that I, yeah, they thank you for that.
Joe Soucheray
May I tell you what goes through my mind?
Matthew
Please.
Joe Soucheray
I hope you love. I hope to Brighten their day.
Kenny Olson
You know who opens it up, right?
Caller/Guest
Who?
Kenny Olson
It's just some overnight low paid worker.
Joe Soucheray
Maybe I can brighten that.
Kenny Olson
Has to open up the envelopes and put the bills in the pile. And that's all they do. It's the mail room.
John Haidt
Anything I mail though, I or I receive. I mean, I notice what stamp is on it. If it's.
Chris Reavers
Once it goes through the postal process. There's lines above the stamp anyway. You barely notice what it even is.
Joe Soucheray
I belong, for example, to a lot of boat clubs and car clubs.
Matthew
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
Well, they get nice stamps, Right. If I'm paying a Visa bill, I don't give a bleep what stamp I use.
Chris Reavers
You pay a lot of those?
Joe Soucheray
Yes. And they'll just get a standard American flag or something.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Sure.
John Haidt
Exactly.
Matthew
What would you send me? You don't really often send me items.
Joe Soucheray
Well, it's interesting you say that. I'd like to know because in the new stamps, which I now have many sheets of celebrating America's 250th birthday, one of the stamps, a great big cheeseburger.
John H.
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Because they selected iconic.
Chris Reavers
Oh, no, you can't. I don't care if you're talking about stamps.
Joe Soucheray
You're still getting this. No, I want it. I purposely used the word. They selected these symbols of America and for some reason they included a cheeseburger, which I'm not going to dispute. And. And so that I would. If in the unlikely event I'm ever going to mail you anything.
Matthew
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
Maybe. Maybe a termination notice. Sure.
Matthew
Yeah. Hopefully by mail. I don't want to see you in prison.
John H.
Right.
Joe Soucheray
I would have that cheeseburger for you. See, I would think of that because I would say to myself that might brighten his day.
Matthew
I would.
Joe Soucheray
Especially when he reads this.
Matthew
Yeah. I would accept that termination with style, with care.
John Haidt
Here is the cheese.
Joe Soucheray
There it is.
Kenny Olson
Rook.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, isn't that beautiful?
Matthew
Oh, that looks really good.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, there's some beauties on there. There's an old pickup truck too, isn't there, John?
John Haidt
There's a old pickup truck right in front of snow capped mountains.
Joe Soucheray
What a country. Yeah. What a country. John, review the stamps for us. What are they?
John Haidt
The first one is a flag. An American flag just hanging like it'd be hanging off somebody's doorstep.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, but it's beautiful.
John Haidt
Yeah. The second is an American flag with a old. An baseball glove with the baseball in it.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, put me in, coach.
John Haidt
The third one is a teddy bear with a sweater that has an American flag on it. Then we got the the old pickup in front of these snow. Yeah, we have.
Caller/Guest
Hello?
John H.
Hello?
Caller/Guest
Hello?
Kenny Olson
Hello?
John Haidt
What?
Kenny Olson
All of you shut up.
John Haidt
I still got eight left.
Joe Soucheray
We got eight left. We're reviewing the 250th stand.
John Haidt
Yeah, yeah. Then there's a big building with American flags hanging in front of it.
Kenny Olson
Are you guys performing for your family? Because nobody else listen to this.
Joe Soucheray
I'm not performing for anyone right now because I just don't care anymore about Mitch McConnell.
Kenny Olson
Well, what does that have to do with Stan?
Joe Soucheray
I want to be reminded what a beautiful country we used to be.
Matthew
Mitch McConnell is America's dancing.
Kenny Olson
At the risk of drawing this extremely interesting conversation out any further, farther, further. What stamp? What stamps does the CP use when she mails us our Christmas cards every year? Which by best Christmas cards ever.
Joe Soucheray
She usually finds something Christmassy. Appropriate. Okay. To the season appropriate.
Chris Reavers
Actually, hold on a second. This is very odd. We never get this during our podcast and we actually have a caller. Go ahead, caller.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
You.
Chris Reavers
You want to weigh in on the topic of the. The stamps?
John H.
Yeah, I wonder if I get the time in the damn.
Caller/Guest
Thank you.
Matthew
Got it. The time in the stamp.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I can get back to why the world's falling up.
Chris Reavers
Nah, let's not do that.
Joe Soucheray
No, I have some comments.
Kenny Olson
I have more fun facts about Ashby.
Chris Reavers
Hey, you gave him a homework assignment
Joe Soucheray
and he came through. And I'm very pleased. And I'm very.
Chris Reavers
Because you always say, what reporting isn't what it used to be.
Joe Soucheray
That was very well done, Kenny. Very well done.
John Haidt
And Kenny, there'll be a little extra in that check that comes in the stamped envelope to you.
Joe Soucheray
That's an excellent job. Now, we've been talking about the 250th birthday party. The center of the American. Well, we were talking about the stamps, but the center of the American Experiment is holding a 200, 250th block party in honor of this once great country. And it'll be. I assume it's down at the state capitol. Of course. And American Experiment is proud to lead our state's year long celebration of the 250th walls ain't gonna. No.
Matthew
Hell no.
Joe Soucheray
Those commies in the legislature ain't gonna do it. Come celebrate our incredible country on the steps of the state Capitol with food, friends, and good old fashioned fun for the whole family. This is Saturday, July 25th. What would that be? Two weeks from tomorrow?
Chris Reavers
Yes.
John H.
All right.
Joe Soucheray
Two weeks from tomorrow. 12:00pm to 2:00pm they're not going to take up your whole day. No, they know how to run a show, the center of the American Experiment, food trucks, live music, face paintings, speeches and more. You have any questions, see the events page@AmericanExperiment.org.

Kenny Olson
On July 8, 2020, areas north of Ashby were struck by an F4 tornado. I saw that.
Joe Soucheray
What year? What year?
Kenny Olson
2020. July 8, 2020. Not only did I see that tornado, I have it on tape. And I have a really fun story about that that I don't know.
Joe Soucheray
Okay, Kenny, maybe you could tell us that sometime.
Kenny Olson
I don't know if enough time has elapsed, I think the Douglas County Sheriff could still come after me. So I'm going to save that story for later. Question for you guys. How many lakes in Gumption County? I have broken toe. I have Spoon. I have Lake Hecher, Looper Lake dwelling. Any others?
Caller/Guest
Spoon.
Kenny Olson
Spoon. I got that.
Matthew
Okay.
Joe Soucheray
That's about it.
Kenny Olson
I was on all of them with Cirrhosis of the river over the fourth, the big fourth. I was in all the pontoon parades and it was sketchy there for a minute because I decided to use last year's gas. I was kind of concerned, but I dumped the better portion of a can of Seafoam Marine Pro into the tank and she smoked a little bit upon startup. But then it smoothed right out. Purred like a kitty. All day long I idled around those lakes in Gumption. A little known fact. Seafoam was actually created as an additive for outboard engines a long time ago. Still works to this day to clean critical marine engine areas. Stable fuel for up to two years. Doesn't matter if it's two stroke or four stroke. Same deal. Inboard, outboard, whatever you got, it's going to work. Just add a little bit of Marine Pro to every tank of fuel. I think they say an ounce per gallon and it'll clean the entire system. To make that engine run longer, look for it wherever fine automotive chemicals are sold. A wonderful product in one year old gas, Seafoam Marine Pro.
Joe Soucheray
We have another Somali contumely.
Chris Reavers
Is this our Islamophobic update?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, we're, we're, we're racist right now. It develops. I, I found this on Fox News. More details are emerging after an American flag was displayed upside down at a Somali Independence Day event in Minnesota.
John H.
All right.
Joe Soucheray
The St. Cloud Police Department confirmed to Fox News that on July 3rd at 5:29pm the department received a call that the US flag was being flown upside down on a city flag pole at the Lake George Park Pavilion during a Somali Independence Day event.
John H.
Okay.
Joe Soucheray
A video from that event exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital showed the flag upside down. As event attendees, roughly 500 people enjoyed the festivities. The department said the officer corrected the flag without objection, and that organizers indicated to the city that the flag being flown upside down was not intentional.
Matthew
Not intentional.
Joe Soucheray
Not intentional. Despite the claim that the flag was flown upside down by accident, some in the community are skeptical that the error was not noticed by anyone at the event, including the local politicians who were giving speeches in various organizations like the AFL CIO and the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor Party, who had booths set up. You know, I'm beginning to think that maybe we're making too much of the flag. Nobody notices it. It's always hanging. Like the. Didn't it. Wasn't it hanging upside down? Or the POW flag missing in Marina and St. Croix. Nobody noticed.
Matthew
Nobody noticed them hanging the US Flag upside down.
Joe Soucheray
Nobody noticed. What does it mean when you fly the flag upside down? Distress.
John Haidt
Distress. Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Send out.
Joe Soucheray
Okay. I was disgusted by it and then disgusted that it wasn't seen. St. Cloud City Councilman Scott Broden said he brought the issue to a city council meeting just this past Monday. Brodine. It's Brodine, not Broden. Brodin says a Facebook friend messaged him on the evening of July 3, and by the time the councilman got down to the event, the flag had been put right side up. He said a St. Cloud police officer told him the department had received complaints and the police made sure the flag was returned to its proper position. Okay. I guess the flag was upside down long enough for the situation to gain significant traction on social media, including a post on the Facebook account rocks and Cows, named after an infamous comment from Walls where he referred to Minnesota as mostly rocks and cows. Okay, are we gonna. If it was accidental, how could it not have been caught by organizers or politicians who were down there campaigning. Brodin said. It really bothered me, especially with the people campaigning on the weekend of our nation's birthday, a big milestone, that they would remain silent, not to take a stand for our flag. Really, what the flag represents to us, that's the key here. I don't know. Is this something else we're supposed to be worked up about?
Matthew
I think we should pay attention.
Joe Soucheray
The implication, of course, is that there were 500 Somalians there. And are we. I think the intimation is that they did that on purpose.
Kenny Olson
So we are talking about the Somali flag, right?
Joe Soucheray
No, we're talking about the American flag.
Kenny Olson
Oh, the Amer. I'm sorry.
Joe Soucheray
The American flag.
John H.
Oh.
Joe Soucheray
At a Somali celebration.
Kenny Olson
Oh, I didn't. I'm sorry.
Joe Soucheray
All right.
Kenny Olson
Because the flag of Somalia is just a star, Right.
Joe Soucheray
I don't know how you could tell that was Even upside down?
Kenny Olson
Well, there's two points on the bottom and one pointing up. You know, one that points up. But see, you're absolutely right. I mean, it's a star.
Matthew
Well, then let's pick our ray of hope. Is it a ray of hope? Minor ray of hope that they're flying the American flag?
Kenny Olson
Oh, yeah. Has it come to that?
Matthew
Take where we can get it, huh?
Kenny Olson
I don't think it was by accident.
Matthew
By the way, do you know what happens when the GL flag is flying upside down?
Caller/Guest
That.
Kenny Olson
That automatically means bottoms up, right?
Matthew
It just means I screwed up when I pulled it up on the halyard and just. I wasn't paying attention.
Joe Soucheray
I am so proud of you for knowing the word halyard. That word?
Chris Reavers
Yeah.
Matthew
Secure the halyard. Yes. You know how I know that?
Joe Soucheray
I don't know.
Matthew
1981 officer and a gentleman
Kenny Olson
that you watched in a restaurant.
Matthew
Yes, that is. It was David Keith that says to secure the halyard to. Or Richard Gearson. I forget.
Kenny Olson
Can I address something about our flag?
Joe Soucheray
Can I get back here?
Kenny Olson
Somali story. I don't know. It just seemed. Didn't seem like it was going anywhere.
Matthew
Kenny's comment sounds more fun. What do you got, Kenny?
Kenny Olson
Our flag. Our Minnesota flag. The new fraud flag after a few years, turns white.
Joe Soucheray
Really?
Kenny Olson
I mean, it's like a surrender flag. You drive around Alexander. They've been flying there non stop since the day they were released. They're white.
Joe Soucheray
The sun has gotten to them, huh?
John H.
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
All right, now back to your boring story.
Matthew
Joe, what do you got?
Joe Soucheray
Wow. The event organizer relayed to the city that this was done so unintentionally and has apologized. The city took the proper display of the American flag seriously and understand the significance it holds in our community. The city has been working with this event organizer for 11 years and has never happened before. So what you had probably was some dumb Somali who didn't know which way the flag was supposed to look. It was just a dummy.
Kenny Olson
It was on purpose. Please don't. Don't tell me that.
Joe Soucheray
But see, I'm. I'm torn here. By making that a story. All we've done is given the Somali spokespeople another thing to bitch about.
Kenny Olson
I wrestle with that almost every topic we do every day.
Joe Soucheray
Wait, you know what?
Kenny Olson
It's our job. In what I've come down to, it's our job. It's what we do.
John H.
Go.
Joe Soucheray
Now, speaking of the Somalis, our brothers and sisters and I never experienced a bad Somali nurse in my life. They're brilliant. Very, very Good. Brilliant.
John Haidt
Sounds kind of creepy, right?
Joe Soucheray
I thank them wholeheartedly.
Matthew
I'm seeing Halloween, huh? Naughty Somali nurse.
Joe Soucheray
Why don't you take your mind out of the gutter? Yesterday we were talking about the dust up that Trump supposedly involved himself in by posting a video of kindergarten girls. I guess they were girls.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, I bet you got emails, didn't you, Joe?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, but a couple I want to read because I really agree with them. The Somali kindergarten girls wearing a hijab. And. And Trump said. Apparently Trump didn't say anything. He was just reposting something, you know, end wokeness or something to that effect. And people got upset, thought they were under attack by the President. No, by the President's standards, that was just charitable as hell. He didn't. So I got two emails on that one and they're both from GL Gals.
Matthew
Okay, CI girls.
John H.
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Sue writes, I think we no longer need to take any refugees from Somalia, even if we even are, since it's obviously safe to travel there. That's what I took from the St. Louis Park Mare story. I think it's sad that girls have to dress like that because their community demands it. She's referring to the kindergartners. They really have no choice. Just one free American woman's opinion, Sue. Well, Sue, I like your opinion. And Jennifer Z writes, hail the flashlight King.
John Haidt
Hail you.
Joe Soucheray
I think you all missed the original point of the post. These are kindergarten children wearing the hijab. The important point here is why Muslim women wear it, usually as small children. Muslim girls are able to run around like boys do. Head, arms and legs uncovered. When they hit the age of puberty, they are put into the hijab. This is to keep the Muslim men from becoming, let's call it what the British do. Randy. The whole reason is to cover women is to keep men from having impure thoughts and being unable to keep from acting on those thoughts. Please, please can somebody tell me why on earth a kindergartner would need to be covered like this? If the whole reason is to be demean, demure in the eyes of Allah and to keep the men from being attracted to them, There is not a kindergartener in the world that should need a hijab, niqab, burqa or any other covering. I'm sorry, but the Islamic faith is not compatible with Western value. I would say with Western society and for many reasons. This is only one reason. Women shouldn't have to cover every part of their bodies to keep men from temptation and kindergarteners. This needs to be pointed out as gags. Sad, sad wrote our suicidal empathy will be the end of the West. It's not just about a head covering. You have to know what's behind that and you have to understand that there are some things that cannot be tolerated. Islam is a religion that affords no rights to women. We are treated as animals or property to be owned. And apparently it would appear that the Somalis of this school treat even their 5 year old babies like that. Good luck. Jennifer Z. Well, I can't dispute that. How are you going to argue with that?
Kenny Olson
And so, boy, this might get too deep for even me. Is there a conversation to be had where number one in the United States, freedom of the, of religion. That's we're like whatever, whatever you want to do. But do we step in where we think the religion is practicing, I don't know, discriminatory practices such as the key job, the hijabs and the, what's the, what are the robes called? I want to try to be respectful.
Joe Soucheray
I don't know. But I have, I have an answer.
Kenny Olson
She mentioned it.
Joe Soucheray
I have Nika, the burka. The burkas.
Kenny Olson
Should we get involved in that or does this fall under freedom of religion?
Joe Soucheray
I, I, I have an answer for that.
Kenny Olson
Go ahead.
Joe Soucheray
And it does compel a conversation. We've all been walking on eggshells here for 20 years. I remember the first time. Well, if, if you go back to September 11, 2001, you were here. I don't think anybody else was. Was Kenny here in 2001?
Kenny Olson
I was in the real world.
Joe Soucheray
Johnny Height, were you here in 2001?
John Haidt
Not on this show yet.
Joe Soucheray
You and I were. And one of the first things that happened here, and I'm sure many if not all corporations and businesses were doing this, we were told to ass in a meeting room and we were then instructed by an imam. This goes back to 2001. Not unkindly, not unkindly, but we were introduced to a Muslim cleric or an elder who wanted to caution us. This probably within a week. Wasn't it within two weeks?
Matthew
Yeah, it was right away.
Joe Soucheray
Boy, you better not be judging anybody, he said. And on and on and on. And I've always had that in the back of my mind. We've been basically in this country walking on eggshell for 25 years. For 25 years, yes. And to answer Kenny's question, it is not our business. Given our constitutional protections of the freedom of religion, I do not consider it my business to tell anyone of the Muslim faith what, how they should dress their Children, that's their deal, that's their problem. That's not up to me. Here's how I would answer. If our Western values, which I happen to think are the best in the world, I happen to think this is the best country in the world. I happen to think our constitution is the best written and one that's ever been tried in the world. I happen to believe capitalism has risen more people out of poverty than any other system in the world. I believe the pursuit of happiness and freedom is a God given right that does not come from politicians. And on and on and on. If our Western beliefs do not triumph, if our Western beliefs do not inspire Somalis to see the wisdom of our Western beliefs, that is the only thing that would result in them removing head coverings from little kids attending kindergarten. If they stick to their religion and come over here and just put up a wall and say, we don't care about your Western society. We don't care about capitalism, we don't care about anything you people are doing because our religion is superior to yours and we're sticking with it. Then of course those little girls will be continually wearing the hijab. The only way they'll ever not wear it is if the Somali diaspora begins to accept that, hey, you know what? This is a pretty cool place. We got more freedom here than we know what to do with. And I'm questioning my imom. I'm questioning my superiors about some of these things. And I would like my little girl to be able to go to kindergarten without that and let her be like the other kids and play and enjoy and grow to enjoy the American experience. That's the only thing I can see ever happening that would result in a child not having to wear that. But that's not going to happen because the mass whiteness of it is committing empathetic suicide. We're shying away from the American experience. We're pretending that we need to be chastised. We're pretending that we need to be admonished. We're pretending that the Somali culture is as in the postmodern sense of it is as superior as the Western culture. In my estimation, it is not. But I have no business telling people how to dress their children when they go to kindergarten. The only solution I see is if Westernization wins out. If Westernization wins out, those little girls will get a bit more freedom in their lives. I don't see that we have any. Our only job is to defend our Western American experience, to emphasize the benefits of it, how it is the Greatest in the world. I don't want to see us regress and go backwards and keep walking on eggshells and pretending that, oh, that must be just as important to you as anything. We better back off.
John H.
Off.
Joe Soucheray
We. We had a whole political culture in Minnesota that was afraid to even intervene on the fraud. Right. Because they were afraid to interfere. Yes, We're. We're committing empathetic suicide. If we love our Somali brothers and sisters, be here. Embrace the American experience. But that's in many, many cases, that's not what's happening. In many cases it is, but in very few. In very few. I mean, I sing the praises of these Somali nurses who took care of me. Yet they were still wearing their stuff. You know, they hadn't gone all the way, but they were wonderful and conversational and friendly and loving and caring. It was wonderful. But there's still, you know, I think I'm thinking this to myself, when they went home, they were. They were experiencing their culture. They're just experiencing it in a different country. That was long winded of them. Yeah, it was.
Matthew
And let me just add, we went to the Lake Elmo Park Preserve. That's just a chlorinated pool for kids to hang out with their families.
Joe Soucheray
Got a lot of algae in it?
Matthew
No, zero.
Joe Soucheray
It's chlorinated, so it's really good.
Matthew
But I did see many Muslim families there, and I did feel bad for the daughters that are 7 or 8 years old that had to be covered from head to toe in order to get in the water.
Joe Soucheray
And I think that the only solution to that is not you saying, to going over there and saying, I think that's ridiculous. You shouldn't, because you wouldn't do that anymore.
Matthew
I wouldn't stop that in my head.
Joe Soucheray
I understand. To me, the only solution to that is we have to quit backing away. We've allowed the failed academy, we've allowed politicians, we've allowed too many people to sell the American citizenry on the notion that we're a no good bunch of people. We got to quit. We have to back away from that and defend the greatness of this country and the wonderful, wonderful possibilities and potentials it offers people.
Kenny Olson
But we're not.
Joe Soucheray
We just keep backing up and let
Kenny Olson
them decide when to take it off.
Joe Soucheray
Yes, exactly.
Kenny Olson
Speaking of that, do you think that this might be a generation.
John Haidt
Yep.
Kenny Olson
Do you think this might be a generational thing where, say, the college gal wearing the hijab goes off to college eight hours away? That thing stays in the drawer in the closet the whole Time she's at college and eventually, when that gal has kids, her kids, her daughters won't wear it at all. Do you think that will be the natural evolution?
Joe Soucheray
I think, well, that could be, but it would be my inclination to believe that the failed academy will absolutely embrace the fact that she's got the headgear on and. And help sell her on the idea that. That her culture needs to be celebrated and preserved and what have you. It isn't much of a culture to be celebrated, by the way.
Kenny Olson
Well, along those lines. My ancestors were told they were not allowed to speak Swedish in the house because we're here, we're in this country and we speak. But yet they still celebrated the Swedish cultural stuff. So the cultural stuff never went away. But they did embrace the United States.
John Haidt
John Haidt, I didn't know this yesterday when we talked about it. I think it enters into the conversation. That picture was from a Somali charter school, not from a public school. Where obviously it'd be just like, you know, I went one through six to a Catholic school. Everybody had to wear uniforms. Don't you think that becomes part of the uniform? And like Kenny said, when that girl reaches, I don't know, 8th grade, she might go, depending on the parents. Influence.
Joe Soucheray
No, my kid don't think that.
Kenny Olson
My kid was public school. Minneapolis. I'm so used to seeing young girls from elementary school all the way through high school wearing that, that I don't even see it anymore. By the time he was a senior year, I didn't even notice it.
John Haidt
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
And I. So common.
John Haidt
Yeah. But I don't think the thing I got from the picture was, look, look what, you know, they're wearing in our schools. These are. Well, it was all Somali kids. It wasn't, you know.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I think that helps rest my case. Until Western values win out, there will continue to be the Somali charter school.
John Haidt
Do you remember us having this conversation? I know Kenny and I had it with you six months ago, maybe a year ago, how we thought how many generations it would take and how many it took for Italians, for Irish to, you know, become part of the American fabric.
Joe Soucheray
Right. But at the time the generational changes were inevitably taking place, this country had not lost its appreciation for itself.
John Haidt
I got you. Okay, that makes sense.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Sure.
Joe Soucheray
We are now dealing with a country led by the failed academy, led by actual voted for legislators, led politicians. We are led by people who are too quick to disown and denigrate their very own country. We are letting it get away from us. And rather than creating the ambiance and the environment of everything this country has to offer. We are becoming submissive to anybody who wants to challenge it. We are being submissive to anybody who said, you people are bad people, you're too white, you were founded by the wrong people, you're too mean spirited. Capitalism's too unfair. We have to arbitrarily create equity. We have to make things the same for everybody. Go bleep yourself. It's time this country started pushing back and saying go bleep yourself. This is America. Enjoy it. Relax.
Matthew
Hey, if you don't like America, then
Joe Soucheray
you can get it.
Kenny Olson
Should we demand it? Should we demand it?
Joe Soucheray
No, you can't demand it. You have to prove it.
Kenny Olson
What about portions of their religion that pretty violent towards non believers?
Joe Soucheray
Oh yeah, well, I think that would disappear with the with the acceptance of Western civilization.
Matthew
Kenny, were you implying that like fallen away Catholics, they might be fallen away Muslims over a couple of generations?
Kenny Olson
I know more fallen away Catholics than I do Catholics.
John Haidt
There's a reason for that.
Matthew
Oh, you can come back anytime.
Joe Soucheray
I don't know, John. I'm not falling away. I'm talking to you about Bradshaw and Bryant, personal injury attorneys. As I mentioned yesterday, we had an accident, but fortunately no injuries. So we don't need Bradshaw and Bryant. But that's who I'm calling. If there had been a problem, Bradshaw and Bryant will deal with the insurance companies. The insurance companies and the adjusters are tough to deal with, so having someone on your side is important. And Mike Bryant, the best in the business, will put together his team from Bradshaw and Bryant. They'll explain your rights, represent you and help you through a tough time. For six consecutive years, Mike has been recognized as a super lawyer and has been named Among Minnesota's top 40 personal injury lawyers by Minnesota Law and Politics. That's the bible. I hope you're never in an accident, but if you are, call Bradshaw and Bryant at 800-770-7008 or go to MinnesotaTapersonAlinjury.com for a free case evaluation. And please don't be part of the problem. Don't text and drive or drive distracted. That's just common sense from Bradshaw and Bryant.

Joe Soucheray
Here's Mr. John Haidt.
John Haidt
Thank you, Joe. This news brought to you by North American Banking Company. The Department of Natural Resources has been working on putting out 10 small wildfires in Superior National Forest. They've all broken out over the last three days. Five of them reported Tuesday, four on Wednesday and one more yesterday. Four of the wildfires are inside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. That area does not have closures due to the flames, but people said you should or excuse me, officials say you should stay away from the fire areas for safety. The fires range in size from a quarter acre to 2.3 acres. You can find wildlife of wildfire updates on the Superior national forest face page. Two of the 15 defendants accused of stealing federal program money back in May have pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges. 42 year old Jalan Mertens of Hamel and Fahima Ega Muhammad 50, of Minneapolis each entered pleas yesterday as part of agreements with prosecutors. Prosecutors say Mertens collected more than 400 grand in fraudulent claims across three child care centers in three different cities. Mohammed is accused of taking five and a half million dollars in taxpayer through her daycare Future leaders. Both will be sentenced at a yet to be determined future date. Top federal officials you remember came to Minnesota in May to announce the charges against the 15 defendants. They were alleging that fraudsters exploited programs meant to help vulnerable populations, including the now defunct Housing Stabilization Services program, which was designed to connect homeless Minnesotans with housing and the early Intensive Behavioral Development Intervention program for kids with autism. Former Dave Osmik, we had him as a guest, right?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, many times. All right.
John Haidt
State Fair Former Garage Logic guest and former state senator Dave Osmick said he's filed a complaint with the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Disclosure Board alleging Republican gubernatorial candidate Kendall Quals violated state campaign finance laws by running his gubernatorial campaign from an office of a nonprofit that he runs. Osmic is a former advisor to Quals who left Qual's campaign in December of last year. The nonprofit Take Charge was launched in 2020 in opposition to the notion that racism is deeply embedded in American society. Quals, the Minnesota GOP endorsed candidate for governor, promoted his campaign and conducted campaign work from the office, according to a former advisor. Nonprofit law expert said some of those activities raise questions under federal rules barring tax exempt charities from taking part in any federal tax. Filings show that Take Charge paid Quals and his wife, Sheila Quals, a little over a million dollars between 2021 and 2024. That total accounted for about 32% of Take Charge's spending during that period. Qualls campaign said the nonprofit has not supported his run for governor. A campaign spokesman said Take Charge is not affiliated in any manner with Kendall Qual's campaign. Everything he is doing is perfectly legal. Qualls is running in the Aug. 11 Republican primary against Minnesota House Lisa Damith and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, with the winner facing the Democratic candidate Amy Klobuchar. Although he won the backing of Republican delegates in June, calls raised less money than Damith and Lindell through May, according to campaign finance reports, and a couple polls have him trailing. The latest KSTP Survey USA poll shows Lindell in the lead with 27% of the primary vote. House Speaker Daymouth garnered 22% of the votes and Coles has 17%. But a large portion 24% of likely Republican voters say they're still undecided. Meanwhile, Alpha News reporting an internal poll from a conservative nonprofit group says Damith has a slight lead. The Minnesota Private business council shows 29.1% saying they would vote for Damith if the gubernatorial primary were held today. Qualls got 23.9% of the vote, Lindell 20.4. That poll also shows a lot of people haven't decided yet. About 25.6 and a school administrator charged last year for allegedly soliciting a minor is now facing charges for an alleged sexual assault against a former student. Charging documents in St. Louis county show Christopher John Chad is facing three felony criminal sexual conduct charges after a 19 year old told authorities they had been sexually assaulted by Chad from 2021 to 2023 while a student at Rockridge High School in Virginia. According to court documents. The individual told Author Chad and they had met online in 2021 when they were 14 years old. The two had met online but soon discovered they knew each other in real life.
Joe Soucheray
How do you meet somebody online? I don't know.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Joe.
Joe Soucheray
Well, stop. Yeah, yeah.
Chris Reavers
The two people have the least amount of experience, are weighing it heavily on the topic. It's pretty easy, boys. I'll just put it that way.
Joe Soucheray
I don't want to meet anybody on
Chris Reavers
we know what is it.
Matthew
Farmers with benefits.
John Haidt
Why don't we.
Chris Reavers
Let's not make light of the Rockridge.
John Haidt
Take a look.
Joe Soucheray
You got to admire that they went with Rock Ridge. Rock Ridge.
John Haidt
Why don't we take a quick break here?

John Haidt
Thanks, Chris. In national and international stories, President Trump fired the three remaining commissioners on a bipartisan federal elections board that helped states and municipalities in holding their elections. Two of the commissioners on the Election Assistance Commission were Democrats, Trump firing them. The third official, a Republican, was allowed to resign. The EAC trains election officials in new voting technology, manages the national mail voter registration form, and oversees a testing and certification program for voting machines, some of which the president claimed took votes away from him and gave to former President Joe Biden in the 2020. Trump falsely maintaining the election was rigged against him. Any new commissioners have to be Nominated by the President, confirmed by the Senate, the commission cannot have more than two members of the same party. The ousters came the week after US Supreme Court overturned a 91 year old case that had limited the President's ability to remove members of independent federal boards. President Trump said today he would not sign that bipartisan landmark housing bill designed to address voters affordability worries, protesting the lack of action on his sweeping voter ID proposal. The White House didn't immediately clarify whether Trump planned to veto the legislation because legislation would become law automatically at midnight tonight if the President takes no action. The President reiterating his stance this morning that the cease fire with Iran was over after less than three weeks, but he said the US Will continue to negotiate. The US has remained engaged in conversations with Iran this week via mediators, despite the bombing this weekend that derailed the truce agreed to under the mid June memorandum of understanding signed by President Trump and his Iranian counterpart. Meanwhile, Israel shared new intelligence with the U.S. it said indicated a fresh Iranian plot to kill the President. Iran for years has vowed openly to retaliate against Trump for the assassination of Qaseem Soleimani, who was a top general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard in the President's first term. The Israeli embassy in Washington declared. Klein comment on the story.
Joe Soucheray
John, I have a question. Yes, Serious question for all of you. Trump continually berates the press, whoever raises a hand. He said, who do you work for? Oh, that's a fake outfit and you're fake. And if they ever said go bleep yourself, bleep you. What I do is not fake. Would they, would they end up in jail, wonder in prison
John Haidt
for what?
Joe Soucheray
I mean, because. Why doesn't somebody say that?
Chris Reavers
Because they'll get their.
Joe Soucheray
Because this is ridiculous.
Kenny Olson
I think they have and they got their credentials.
John Haidt
Yeah. So if they're an ABC reporter and they are covering the White House and they say that, then boom, they're gone. They're probably fired.
Kenny Olson
And you know, we could probably look up how many people have had their credentials. Okay, well, couldn't we, Matthew?
Matthew
You were sure as hell.
Chris Reavers
Good, because we'll get emails. This has happened under previous, previous administrations as well. John, I'm not. John, I'm done talking to you about politics.
John Haidt
Thank God.
Chris Reavers
Really?
John Haidt
You promise?
Chris Reavers
Act like none of this ever happened under Biden or any other previous administrations or Obama. It absolutely happened. I'm not saying.
Joe Soucheray
No, no, any, any.
Chris Reavers
I'm not saying that this didn't happen under Trump. I'm just merely pointing out because we're going to get 10,000 emails from people saying that.
John Haidt
Tell them to send them to be.
Joe Soucheray
All I wanted to know is why don't you stick up for your mates and just say bleep you? Come on, windbag. I'm not. I wish they'd tell me that. I say prove it. What do you mean? How's it fake? What's fake? What have I written? It's fake. I'd want to know.
John H.
Call them out.
Joe Soucheray
Well, they're all.
John Haidt
But then you'd be fired. He'd. He would care.
Joe Soucheray
Fire me?
John Haidt
Well, he would insult you there and then you'd be fired by the administration and then ABC or whoever you worked in for would fire you and you'd be looking for a job and you're 45 years old.
Joe Soucheray
All right, Go back to the news. Sure.
John Haidt
We're 45 years old, Joe.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, I do. Back to the news.
John Haidt
I hear you. US Olympic canoeist David Hearn pleaded not guilty to charges of damaging the reflecting pool at the base of the Washington monument yesterday. The 67 year old who competed in the 1992, 96 and 2000 Olympics was indicted July 2nd after he was accused of ripping out a portion of the sealant from the bottom of the reflecting pool. On June 19, Hearn said he stopped by the pool during a 64 mile bike ride, was arrested after reaching down into the pool to pick up a loose piece of the liner.
Joe Soucheray
He didn't wreck the pool. This is all bs.
John Haidt
He said he was just interested in the material and briefly touched it. Judge Carmen McLean ordered Hearn released on his own recognizance and set the next status hearing in the case for Wednesday, August 5th. Construction crews breaking ground yesterday on the final office tower at the new World Trade center campus. Nearly 25 years after after the 911 attacks destroyed the complex, American Express will be the sole tenant of 2 World Trade center upon its completion. Currently slated for 2031, the 55 story glass tower will accommodate up to 10,000 employees across nearly 2 million square feet of office space. At 1,226ft tall, it will stand 550ft shorter than 1 World Trade center directly to the west. American Express has not disclosed project costs, but New York Mayor Zohan Mandani expects the development to create 3,200 jobs and generate $6 billion in economic activity. A fire broke out at a shoe factory in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian.
Joe Soucheray
Usually it's a fireworks factory.
John Haidt
This fire. I shouldn't giggle because this fire killed 28 people.
Joe Soucheray
Well, the fireworks ones wipe out hundreds. They do.
John Haidt
Chinese President Xi Jinping demanded an all out search and rescue effort urging a swift investigation into the incident and strictly holding those responsible accountable. Many of the shoes sold in the U. S come from China. I did not know this many though. Chinese made shoes accounted for about 35% of the US's footwear imports in 2024. And I'm sure you saw this Joe, Kenny, you guys are extremely interested in this stuff. Dozens of newly declassified UFO records have been released again, new stuff from the Trump administration shedding light on unexplained sightings investigated by the US military and other government agencies. Published today on the Department of War's website, the batch says it's time the American people see for themselves as it adds a trove of documents, videos and photographs. Among the most striking additions are videos showing a mysterious eight pointed object hovering over East 8 Asia. That's one of them. Another one is a jellyfish like ufo. This is a very strange one if you haven't seen it over the Atlantic Ocean. And an unresolved case involving an oddly shaped craft zigzagging across the western United States. The Reese also release also includes a Department of Energy report detailing how security teams at the Pantex nuclear weapons plant in Texas scrambled after radar detected a silent diamond shaped object drifting over the highly secured facility in 2015.
Joe Soucheray
I think there's a lot of stuff up there.
John Haidt
Officer said this craft flew just 100 to 200ft above the ground. No visible means of propulsion.
Kenny Olson
We should be mag. We should, we should be relieved when we see them because it's our keepers checking on on us. Think of humanity.
Joe Soucheray
We're a national park, aren't we?
Kenny Olson
Think of humanity as a big fish tank. Every now and then the keepers come along and sprinkle some food in there, make sure everybody's doing okay. They might scoop out a few dead beats. Watch out, Matthew. And they just want to see how we get along.
Matthew
Kind of like the parents being away for the summer, but just checking in every once in a while.
Kenny Olson
A nanny cam.
Joe Soucheray
Okay, you know what my new theory is? My new theory, I, I think we would be told, but we don't have anybody that really understands what the hell it is. So in other words, they got all this film and stuff. They don't know any more than we do.
Kenny Olson
As crude as that is and as uneducated as that comment is.
John H.
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Oh, I think you're dead on.
Joe Soucheray
I, I think you're absolutely. It was very crude, I realized that. But I just think, I think we're all the Same. We have no bleeping idea. 100.
Kenny Olson
100.
John Haidt
That was the oddest compliment. Mr. Olson never heard.
Kenny Olson
I like to set him.
Joe Soucheray
But you know what? I'm gonna take it.
John Haidt
Yeah, you're really dumb, but you're right.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. Oh, you're an idiot. But that made sense.
John Haidt
The authors of this report warned that the phenomenon should be treated as a national security issue and urged governments because
Joe Soucheray
they don't know what else to do.
Kenny Olson
John, you don't want to hurt the hand that feeds.
Joe Soucheray
Needs you.
Kenny Olson
Just leave them alone. They're here to help.
John Haidt
I just want to see a ship drive by me and there's a window and some weird looking creature just gives me a wave and then takes off.
Matthew
You're implying that they have hands, an appendage.
John Haidt
Well, I was seeing like three fingers with suction cups, you know, waving at me.
Matthew
That's better. That's better.
Kenny Olson
So.
Joe Soucheray
Well, now to. We've talked about this before. One of the great recorded evidence episodes with evidence was the Scottish farm woman who was outside the craft, came down, got close to her, the three people in the craft looked at her and she described them as. They looked at her with some almost pity. They looked at her with some sentiment to suggest, you have a tough life. Good luck to you.
Kenny Olson
Like a feral dog eating its own poo.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, that.
John H.
Not.
Joe Soucheray
Never really considered it that way.
John Haidt
Close enough.
Joe Soucheray
But I guess that's close enough.
John H.
Kind of like.
Joe Soucheray
Thanks, John.
John Haidt
You're welcome.
Joe Soucheray
Thank you very much.
John Haidt
You're welcome.
Chris Reavers
Where'd my sports talk theme go?
John H.
Oh, no.
Joe Soucheray
We had to fake it Sunday night. We couldn't find it.
Chris Reavers
Well, what? It was on my button bar.
Joe Soucheray
Well, where is it? Come on, come on.
Chris Reavers
Here we go.
Caller/Guest
Here we go.
John H.
Here we go.
Chris Reavers
That's the old one.
Kenny Olson
What the hell? We'll play.
Chris Reavers
We'll find it.
Kenny Olson
The TCL broadcast studios.
Chris Reavers
From the radio days.
Joe Soucheray
We weren't in the TCL broadcast studios.
Matthew
That's what they were called back.
Caller/Guest
Hi, Pat.
Chris Reavers
How are you?
John H.
I'm. I'm very optimistic, though. I've been looking at the weather and we might have a drought on the way. We might get a drought going.
Joe Soucheray
You love drought.
John H.
Very pro drought. The next six to five days, 90 degrees and very little chance of rain. So that's great.
Joe Soucheray
Hey, when. When. When does our adopted French club play next in this soccer tournament?
John H.
I think today, but I'm not sure I think.
Joe Soucheray
When is this thing over?
John H.
June, July 20th.
Joe Soucheray
That's the final game first?
John H.
I think so, yes. But, you know, we. How do you like all these Angst filled columns and stories from people who have watched three soccer games the last four years, until this week, saying that what are we going to do about men's soccer in the US to build it up? Of course, then we'll forget about it.
Joe Soucheray
For three years I haven't read anything about the soccer team.
John H.
Oh, God, yeah.
Matthew
People very worried about Spain plays Belgium at 2 o' clock today.
Joe Soucheray
When's France playing next?
Matthew
France. I will find that for you because
Joe Soucheray
I'm French and Pat's French, right?
John H.
Yeah. Well, the. The Englishman got. Just got one of their stars suspended for two games and he doesn't have. They don't even know who their prime minister is over there to call up and get a change. So they can't. They can't get the cards withdrawn. So they're losing.
Joe Soucheray
One of the English guys break his arm too, when he jumped over the fence in the celebration of their last victory.
John H.
A lot of worried stories about. I love it. I did have to say on Twitter that, you know, as a grandparent, I think all of us remember that day with filled joyous hearts when our grandkids decided to stop playing soccer. Never had to go to any more soccer games, of course. Rook was a youthful soccer player. The Lagos boys learned a lot of tricks from the Rock before they became stars.
Matthew
I was a standalone human pylon for Gerard and Manuel Lagos. Yes.
Joe Soucheray
Do you find anything out about France
Matthew
plays July 14th next Tuesday at 2:00pm Play the quarterfinal of winner number game two.
Caller/Guest
Whatever.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I can't watch a 2:00 clock game.
John H.
They're gonna make them play three games in 28 days to win it. They don't. They're anti French.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, they're cheating. The French.
John H.
They treating the frog. The French. Excuse me, use the slur there.
Joe Soucheray
I don't think frog is that bad. Say the truth.
John H.
Yeah, right. It's kind of a short. It's kind of like Yanks, only different.
Chris Reavers
You know, I was just glad to see the president step in to help out the US Club with the red car.
Joe Soucheray
It didn't work out. It didn't work.
John H.
You know, always been a big supporter of birthright citizenship. He wanted to get that kid back.
Matthew
I did think Belgium's response to winning the game was rather right to the point, saying unsuspend this or whatever. And they did. The final score, 4 to 1.
John H.
They that. Well, you know, you know, 4 to 1 in soccer is like 25 to 4. Baseball, you know, it's. It's rather humiliating.
Joe Soucheray
That's my complaint with the Game that goals.
John H.
That's right. That's right.
Joe Soucheray
Nobody does stuff nobody does.
John H.
The net's not big enough, Joe. They need another 10 yard.
Joe Soucheray
That's about the size of this building. They can't score. I just don't get it.
John H.
I don't. I don't get it.
Joe Soucheray
Hey, our. Our penny race hit a little bump last night, but the boys won two out of three from the Cleveland.
John H.
Now they have the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim coming to town. And guess what? All the fans out there want the owner to start sell. They're very upset. He wants a new stadium.
Joe Soucheray
Well, they got a nice stadium.
John H.
Army Radio. But the. They, Joe, have had 11 consecutive losing seasons.
Joe Soucheray
They're not doing well this year either.
John H.
No, it's. I think they have the worst record the American League. 37 and 57. And they. Six of those seasons they had both Otani and Trout. Now they were injured. Trout was injured a lot. And Otan Tawny blew out his elbow, so he missed most of the year too. But yeah, they've. It's. That was always my favorite ballpark on the road, man. Because at night, you know, those, Those Southern California nights in the. In the summer were fantastic. And you can look out there and see the mountains at the. If it was clear enough and watch the ball game. And the only thing you had to watch in that ballpark was the press box was so close you could get killed with a foul ball if you look down. I remember once Gordon Whitmire was the beat writer for the St. Paul paper. And they hit a screaming liner back there and it was going right at my head and he reached out to catch it and then pulled his hand back and I tipped over and hit my head on the back of the wall behind there. And the ball went in and went boom, boom. And went back out and put a big debt in the wall. Would have been my head. Was Gordon gonna sacrifice his typing hand for my head?
Joe Soucheray
No, apparently not. He withdrew it.
John H.
He pulled it. He reached out so I was feeling safe, and then all of a sudden he pulled it back and boom. Yeah, and thing came back. Luckily, even at slightly overweight back then, I. I still still had my quickness to fall over.
Joe Soucheray
Pat, can I tell you something? The TV broadcasts have featured four players.
John H.
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Well, it's horrible. It's just horrible.
John H.
Okay, well, it's, you know, at times if the topic's okay, but sometimes it's just babbling.
Joe Soucheray
You know, there's a. No, no, no. It's all babble and it's very Difficult to know what the count is. What anything. It's just terrible.
John H.
It's. You know what it is, Joe? Non traditional. That's what it is.
Joe Soucheray
Well, no, it's just horrible.
John H.
You know what we have tonight?
Joe Soucheray
Horrible.
John H.
We break out the dancing girls and afterwards we have pro wrestling.
Joe Soucheray
What are the dancing girls?
John H.
We got. We got Norm Green type girl girls starting to dance at baseball games. But we don't know what. We don't. Yeah, we're gonna. I don't.
Joe Soucheray
Not cheerleaders.
John H.
Ah, basically cheerleaders. I don't think they'll be dressed up in short shorts like Norm had them, but. Or the. Or the Timberwolves in the early years and. But yeah, we're gonna have dancers and I don't know where they're gonna dance, so I would guess maybe on the roof of the dugouts.
Joe Soucheray
You mean during the game?
John H.
Game, yeah, I assume.
Joe Soucheray
Holy mackerel. What's the world coming to?
John H.
I think they're kind of cheerleaders. That's a. That's the last desperate act, you know.
Joe Soucheray
Well, they're in a pennant race. Go to the ballpark.
John H.
Yeah, right, right. That's true.
Joe Soucheray
They're playing well, given their limitations.
John H.
Limitation? Jess, they got Jeffers back today and they kept both their catchers. Obviously, they. Because the Ted people. Teams are so hard up for this Jack. Catchers, that if they put this Jackson on waivers, he would have gotten claimed. And I think Jeffers is the guy they plan to trade at the deadline. They're going to trade him before Joel. There's a lot of teams, including John Heights, who could use a catcher who.
Joe Soucheray
Yes. Now, will Buxton miss the All Stars game?
John H.
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
He will not attend the All Star Game.
John H.
He will attend, will not participate because
Joe Soucheray
he is hip flared up again.
John H.
He'll get introduced and then. But he will not. He will not play. I guess it was a. I guess it was kind of an emotional press talk between him and the club because he did think that it would have been quite a thrill to start in an All Star Game at this point of his career. But they told him he had to get better and try to play the last. They call it the first half of the second half, even though we're about 60% of the way through the season. So. Yeah, it's kind of too bad. He was. I mean, he would have. He would have been one of the big stories at the All Star Game because the waves hit home runs and the revival he's had has been incredible.
Joe Soucheray
God, I wish he could stay home.
John H.
Geez. That would be. That would be wonderful. So I was at a breakfast yesterday that you would have liked to been at the Beauty League. You know the Beauty League out at Braemer. These. I, I don't know that summer hockey league that a bunch of NHLRs boy have played in and you know, D1 college players through the years. It was started by Ben Hankinson, Chris McElpunch, find Paul Martin and Keith Ballard were kind of the starters and the buff to Dustin Bufflin, but the buff didn't show up because he was fishing. But I had breakfast with the four of those guys yesterday and they were telling some hockey stories. There's nothing that beats hockey stories.
Caller/Guest
What.
Joe Soucheray
Why the name Beauty League, I wonder?
John H.
Well, you know, it's kind of a. An old Canadian hockey.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, he's a beauty.
John H.
He was a beauty in front of it. He was the beauty. So they put, they put duh in front of it. Yeah, the Beauty League. And, and they've had. They play four on four and they've had. Man, they must have had various points, 50, 60, NHL playing it and you know, summer league guide, because it was when there was no summer training or anything around. They just, you know, they didn't. It was. They were just trying to get a little bit of shape for the start of camp. The thing about them is now, Joe, that they give somebody the cup about June 15 and they start training camp about six weeks later.
Joe Soucheray
So, you know, it's a. It's a shame there's no seasons left for any sports, really.
John H.
No, that is true. But anyway, there's some. I got the full story on McMantal. You know, McElpine was the guy that Uger had the cash in the hat for. The cash in the hat? Yeah, he said, he said it was. He was supposed to be on scholarship and then they weren't. They were taking that away. And he needed the money to go to school, but for a scholarship. But Uber or somebody given the scholarship to somebody else when he came back. So he said, I don't have any money to go to school. So they got him. Some guy put 500 in the hat. He came over, calls him and says, go in my office and pick up the hat and there'll be 500. You know, you know, ratted out Uber. John Gilbert found out about it.
Joe Soucheray
Really?
Caller/Guest
Really.
John H.
He didn't like the Uber. He and Uber, because Uber wouldn't tell him, you know what he Uber tell us stuff on Saturday Sports Talk. But he wouldn't. He didn't give John all the info.
Joe Soucheray
That John John had a tendency to try to coach the team himself.
John H.
Oh, yes.
Caller/Guest
Wooga.
John H.
Once you know you had Hallman and Gil, can you imagine having Hallman and Gilbert as your 2? That'd be tough beat guys. And Wilger used to say one of them is my general manager and the other is the coach. And it changes from week to week. Right. Who is what? But he was against a lot. He was at no shortage of advice from the local media, so.
Joe Soucheray
Well, Patrick, I'll talk to you Monday.
John H.
All right. I think I'm going to the yard. See those red hot angels against the twins who hopefully can you be nice to win three and be over.500 at the break.
Joe Soucheray
Wouldn't that be something?
Chris Reavers
Halfway point of the season?
Joe Soucheray
No. Well, actually we're about 60%.
John H.
Yeah, 60%.
Joe Soucheray
All right, I'll talk to you Monday.
John H.
Bye. Bye.
Joe Soucheray
Finally. Thank God today is Friday. Tgt. It's a scramble.
John H.
It is.
Chris Reavers

Matthew
with fanfare Nice.
Joe Soucheray

Joe Soucheray
All only because they come to us all the way from Marleth park, which is a wildlife kingdom in South Africa. It's only because they come to us all that way from the traveling Lymans. Well, we didn't do anything on this day. You know why? Really slowing down there in the middle of summer, huh? On this day, July 10, in 1823, Mayor Joseph Delafield and his party arrived at Grand Portage to run the first survey of the international boundary of the region. On this day, July 10, in 1930, golf great Bobby Jones played around at the Interlochen Country Club in Edina on the first day of the US Open Championship. At the end of the two day tournament, he won the title for the fourth time. So on this day in 1930, that parking lot would have been full of Model A's and Model T's. Hey, Bobby Jones kicked off the US Open and he won it that year. On this day in sports disappointment history.
Chris Reavers
Joe, who'd we lose to on July 10th?
Joe Soucheray
Well, in 2022, the Vixen lost the WFA Pro Championship to Boston. Boston 32 to 12.
Matthew
Did we get jobbed by the officials or was that.
Joe Soucheray
Is that female football?
Chris Reavers
Yes, sir.
Joe Soucheray
Yes, Women's Football association, wfa. Well, the Vixen. Do we still have the Vixen?
Chris Reavers
I believe that league folded.
Joe Soucheray
I see. Well, we lost in 2022. All right, well, G. Ellers, you got big plans for the weekend?
Chris Reavers

And he is on the line with us once again right here in garagelogic. And boy, Josh, the Koreans are coming. The Koreans are coming.
Caller/Guest
Well, that is true. It's the midnight ride of Paul Revere. One if by land, two if by sea, as he headed out to Lexington and Concord to warn of the British approaching those two small, we'll say hamlets now town. But today the market was very excited about the Koreans coming to the US market. Yes, the Koreans led by SK Hynek, a high bandwidth memory leader, debuted on the New York Stock Exchange. There is a big difference in price between the ordinary shares selling in China or excuse me, selling in Korea and the shares that are listed now on NASDAQ as EPR. The pricing of SK Hynix was looking to raise $28 billion for a chip manufacturing expansion through an equity offering. Came in at 149 was the IPO. Price first were at 174 where they're currently sitting now. Tremendous, tremendous demand for this IPO and it ranks, we'll say as the third significant IPO in the last month and a half starting with Service, then SpaceX and now SK Hynix. This is in addition to we'll say the hyperscalers such as Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Meta coming to market not only not with bond offerings and we still have have an Alphabet stock offer to go in the next, in the next quarter as well as after the IPO. SpaceX did a bond off right away and unfortunately that is one of few things that pushed the shares of SpaceX down. So there is a tremendous, tremendous desire to raise money both for the equity and bond markets right now. And the question is of course, is there enough money, is there enough money for all these offerings or and this we have this we saw today, money leaving most of the chips that had been on fire and heading to SK Hynek. So I would expect we'll say continued volatility in the chip area, indeed chip that had been sold off and now moving back up, that being Nvidia, as Nvidia does business with SK Hynek. So they could be a, we'll say a recipient of some of this, some of these funds from the equity offer. Nvidia, we'll say, has been in correction territory down, down about 15% from its recent high as it has been, we'll say a source of funds for a lot of these offers and possibly money could be rotating back to, back to Nvidia. We'll find out a lot more about the results of all of this spending and whether or not how much spending by the big companies is going to continue as they start reporting their earnings at the end of this month and then into August. Typically, you know, the next 2/4 reports are on the weaker side relative to the, to the rest of the year. But, and I say but I am of the belief that spending that these companies is doing is going to produce some fairly significant returns on investment going forward.
Chris Reavers
Excellent advice as always, Mr. MoneyTalk. You heard him. G. Ellers. Now is the time for you to pick up the phone and make the call for that free 48 minute financial consultation. Episode: "The United States Congress is playing 'Weekend At Bernie’s' with Mitch McConnell"
This episode of Garage Logic, hosted by Joe Soucheray ("The Mayor") with Chris Reavers, Kenny Olson, John Haidt, and Matthew, delivers the usual blend of Minnesota news, small-town charm, and common-sense commentary. The main focus is on the political circus surrounding Senator Mitch McConnell’s health and the larger implications for American self-governance, but the show also indulges in hyper-local flavor, everything from flags and local celebrations to spirited asides about stamps, the Somali community, postal habits, and the state of American symbols.
(02:14–06:00)
Kenny Olson’s Report from Ashby: Kenny shares his “full report” on Ashby, remarking about packed baseball fields and the dominance of pickup trucks at The Legion.
Coot Feed Tradition: The town sportsman's club, "Coots Unlimited," hosts an annual “coot feed”—the only one in North America.
Flag Watch: The “true flag” (historically accurate U.S. flag) is only flying at a private home, not city hall, leading Joe to declare Ashby still “on the crawl” in their ongoing flag campaign.
“As far as I can tell, it is a private home...I did not see any other flags, including in front of city hall where there was only an American flag flying.”
— Kenny Olson (05:30)
(07:11–13:12)
McConnell's Health & Political Machinations: Joe reads from Ken Klippenstein about McConnell (age 84) possibly being kept around to avoid a special election before an August 3rd deadline that could favor a MAGA candidate. The Kentucky Democratic governor is also angling for influence.
Congressional Cynicism: The panel lambasts both mainstream and MAGA Republicans as essentially spineless for failing to act in good faith on McConnell’s health or term limits.
“The Republicans who don’t want a MAGA candidate are balless. They’re microscopic balls. They haven’t done anything.”
— Joe Soucheray (09:27)
“This is ridiculous. He should have been out of there 40 years ago.”
— Kenny Olson (11:16)
Government vs. The People: The group laments how both parties now act for perpetuation of power, not for the people.
“This...the way we govern ourselves is over because we're not being governed. We're being corralled, we're being herded, we're being gaslit."
— Joe Soucheray (12:28)
Public Exclusion: None of the hosts expect transparency; they agree the public is deliberately kept in the dark about politicians’ health.
(13:12–18:14)
Choosing Stamps With Care: Krista from Maryland and co-hosts discuss choosing personalized stamps for their mail, reflecting on what such small acts mean.
New 250th Anniversary Stamps: The panel reviews the icons selected for new US stamps—cheeseburgers, pickup trucks, teddy bears—prompting nostalgia and gentle ribbing.
“They selected these symbols of America and for some reason they included a cheeseburger, which I’m not going to dispute.”
— Joe Soucheray (15:51)
(24:11–30:15)
Reported Incident: An American flag was flown upside down at a Somali Independence Day event in St. Cloud, prompting suspicion and skepticism among locals.
Panel’s Take: No consensus on whether the "accident" was deliberate; some hosts sense manufactured outrage or general carelessness.
Symbolic Debate: The group meditates on whether anyone cares about flag protocols anymore.
“I’m beginning to think that maybe we’re making too much of the flag. Nobody notices it...Wasn’t it hanging upside down or the POW flag missing...Nobody noticed.”
— Joe Soucheray (25:23, 26:07)
(31:09–47:00)
Listeners' Emails: Female listeners write in about Somali girls wearing hijabs—even kindergarteners—prompting debate about assimilation, religious freedom, and women's rights.
Panel Divided: Joe emphasizes constitutional freedoms but also believes Western values are objectively superior and hopes these values will eventually “win out.”
Generational Change: Some see hope in future generations naturally adopting more American norms; others are skeptical.
Eggshells & Empathetic Suicide: Joe recalls post-9/11 advice to be tolerant to the point of self-erasure. The crew bemoans how Americans have been taught to “back down” from asserting their own culture.
"We are committing empathetic suicide. If we love our Somali brothers and sisters, be here. Embrace the American experience. But...that's not what's happening."
— Joe Soucheray (40:15)
“It isn't much of a culture to be celebrated, by the way.”
— Joe Soucheray (43:32)
(52:44–68:32)
Brief Local & Political Updates: Child-care fraud cases, internal Republican squabbles, and campaign law complaints swirl in Minnesota.
Presidential Politics: Trump’s firings on a federal election board, refusal to sign a housing bill, and ongoing Supreme Court machinations get a brief mention (59:13–63:13).
UFO Document Dump: The hosts riff on newly declassified UFO sightings, treating it with their typical mix of skepticism and delight.
“I think there's a lot of stuff up there...I think we're all the same. We have no bleeping idea.”
— Joe Soucheray (66:33, 67:37)
(70:03–82:57)
(83:17–End)
On Political Decay:
“We’re not being governed. We’re being corralled, we’re being herded, we’re being gaslit.”
— Joe Soucheray (12:28)
On Assimilation:
“If our Western values do not triumph...that is the only thing that would result in them removing head coverings from little kids attending kindergarten.”
— Joe Soucheray (36:38)
On Outrage & Flag Protocol:
“So what you had probably was some dumb Somali who didn’t know which way the flag was supposed to look. It was just a dummy.”
— Joe Soucheray (30:15)
On the Role of Government:
“I happen to think this is the best country in the world... If our Western beliefs do not triumph... then of course those little girls will be continually wearing the hijab.”
— Joe Soucheray (36:51)
On UFOs:
“We have no bleeping idea [what these sightings are].”
— Joe Soucheray (67:37)
Garage Logic maintains a folksy, occasionally cranky, often irreverent, but deeply rooted local tone. The hosts are unapologetically opinionated, sometimes politically incorrect, and always eager to defend “common sense” through the lens of Midwestern, small-town values. The episode swings between serious cultural commentary and light-hearted community banter, reflecting both exasperation with public affairs and affection for local tradition.
