The roofing industry is broken and we've got the fix.
Chris Reivers
At HirePro, we help homeowners do the
John Height
same thing a roofer would do when
Joe Sushere
it hails on their own house.
Chris Reivers
Own the project, delegate the tasks and keep the compensation. But you don't have to take my word for it.
Joe Sushere
You could ask Chrissy. Chrissy, how'd it go? It went great. You educated us on how everything worked, showed us behind the curtain, so to speak. And after our $25,000 roof was replaced, we walked away with almost $6,000 for the work we put in.
Kenny Olson
And what work was that?
Joe Sushere
We got the permit and we picked the color. Hire pro handled everything else. You did a great job. And I'm not even being paid to say that. If anyone's listening and has a storm
John Height
damage claim, call them.
Joe Sushere
Don't hire a roofer, hire a pro.
Kenny Olson
That's awesome. I appreciate the kind words and I.
Chris Reivers
I think you just made up our new motto. All right, Joe, you're up.
Joe Sushere
So if insurance has approved your roof replacement, give these guys a call at 651-402-3400 or visit them online at. Hire a dot pro. That' and then put the dot there.
John Height
Pro.
Joe Sushere
As technology becomes more complex, cyber reality dominates the culture and AI becomes an endless anxious discussion. Simple, old human storytelling becomes all the more precious. And that's what you'll find on the Mishke Podcast. In the end, we're all just people. Folks with our brilliance and our absurdities and stories about people. Well, they never get old. The Mishki Podcast, wherever you get your podcasts. Josh Arnold, investment Consultant, brings you Garagelogic podcast number 1811. July 16, 2026. 102 degrees. The record high on this day. That was in 1926, and it was 51 degrees for the record low on two occasions, 1911 and 1958. Call Josh Arnold at 952-925-5608 for a free 48 minute consultation.
Chris Reivers
Hail the Flashlight King.
Joe Sushere
And now, from the mayor's office above the boathouse on the east shore of Spoon Lake, it's Garage Logic with Chris Reavers manning technology corner, Kenny Olson from the crabby coffee shop, John Height in the newsroom, and of course the rookie. Here is your Flashlight King fire commissioner and the keeper of common sense, your mayor, Joe Susher. Okay, I'm gonna own up to it. I'm gonna own up to it. I'm a terrified full fledged Euphorian who lives in liberal lakes. When it comes to smoke in the air, I don't Buy any of the BS when these fruitcakes get on the air and tell us to stay hydrated because it's gonna be 90. Find some shade. Yeah, blah, blah, blah. Smoke, that's a different story. I don't like it. This round is particularly putrid. And here.
Kenny Olson
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Joe Sushere
What?
Kenny Olson
What is this?
Chris Reivers
An announcement? You are officially on the climate change bandwagon.
Joe Sushere
Oh, no, this has nothing to do with.
Kenny Olson
Oh, my God.
Chris Reivers
Someone call the star tribunal.
Joe Sushere
No, this has nothing to do with climate change. It has to do with smoke. It's not only now, feel. Now, if you doubt me, if you doubt me, feel the surface of your car tonight. If you've had your car in use today, it will just feel like grit all over.
Kenny Olson
Okay, get out of my head. I left it in the garage and walked to work. Because of that reason,
Josh Arnold
I'll take the
Kenny Olson
plow truck out, but not my baby. Oh, well, you know what? That brings up another question, Joe, I know when you're part time, just for fun, you are a sleep scientist. Can you compare the carcinogens in the smoke in the air to the Marlboro Reds I used to smoke. Is there similarities or no?
Joe Sushere
Yeah, there's benzene and I don't know how much benzene a cigarette holds, but there's carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, volatile organic compounds, trace amounts of benzene. It's not good. It's not good. I'm a terrified Euphorian. This ain't good.
Kenny Olson
My complaint.
Joe Sushere
I feel for anybody working outdoors today.
Kenny Olson
What I don't like about this is when I inhale and I exhale, I can't blow smoke rings. I can't see the smoke as I exhale. I need it to be a little thicker in order to enjoy it.
Joe Sushere
Chemicals, oils, fertilizers.
Chris Reivers
According to the AI overview, cigarette smoke contains nicotine, tar and thousands of man made chemicals specifically engineered to addict and harm forest fire. Smoke is a mix of trees, plants, and sometimes man made objects. Both contain dangerous fine particles that do in fact hurt your lungs. So there you go.
Joe Sushere
All right? And these smart asses in my family who were texting each other about how they don't mind it, and one character said, I'm getting hints of orange peel and vanilla. Shut up. It turns out, it turns out that benzene has a sweet, fruity order odor.
John Height
Huh?
Joe Sushere
Benzene has a sweet, fruity order. I. We've had smoke like this before. I know. And the wind will come up and it'll go away and then somebody else has to suffer it. But I Don't like it. I'm just confessing. So my moments when I'm a fully terrified euphorian looking out the window before
Chris Reivers
we get into the heavy subjects of the day. So what you're saying is instead of break glass, smoke Lucky's. You're just going to say right now, break glass, walk outside.
Joe Sushere
You could.
Matthew Schoonover
Yep.
Kenny Olson
It's interesting that. Did you call it benzene?
Joe Sushere
It is.
Kenny Olson
Benzene and Matthew both have the same thing. What a fruity odor. Where's Matthew when I need them? Where is he?
Chris Reivers
Does benzene wear a map shirt where he could point to your destination?
Joe Sushere
By the way, we are, by the
Chris Reivers
way, 7,000 chemicals in cigarettes.
Joe Sushere
Well this, this smoke in our presence should be a good reason not to smoke cigarettes. Should be a good reason.
Kenny Olson
You gotta feel for the guys that have to work out.
Chris Reivers
Oh my God, Kenny. I drove here watching a couple of guys, maybe 10, 12 that were working on a highway and I thought, yeah, can I buy all of you a Gatorade or something? I just, I felt awful for those guys.
Joe Sushere
Or an N5 mask, something. See, I'll wear a mask in this. I'm not wearing a walls mask, but I'll wear a benzene mask.
Chris Reivers
Is there a snitch line there?
Joe Sushere
Could. Well, here's the other thing. Here's, here's, here's the other thing. We have a case here where we can believe our own evidence, we can believe our own eyes. These, these people that want to terrify you about a stretch of hot weather. B as in B S as in S. This I can see, I can smell, I can touch it on the surface of things outside. This is real. I therefore become a terrified euphoria because this is real. This isn't some made up BS to tell you you shouldn't drive a minivan. This has nothing to do with cars or climate. This is forest fires and Canada really has a problem. There's hundreds and hundreds of fires in Canada.
Kenny Olson
You just brought up what I was going to bring up. Did we last year, did we have this and it was, was it Minnesota fires or was it Canadian fires? Is this the first time we've smoked ourselves out?
Joe Sushere
No, this is last year. I don't think we had any. But a couple of years ago we had some whoppers of Canadian smoke in here.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, it's always Canada.
Joe Sushere
But here we almost made it to number one. We're only the third worst air quality globally. In the Twin Cities we almost were number one. We're only third globally. We got to work harder this is from Channel 5. We have the worst air pollution ever recorded here and we're third on the list behind Toronto and Detroit. So the major. The major cities in the world right now with the worst air are not in China or India. They're here. They're here and in Canada. I don't like it. I don't like it, but there's nothing I can do.
John Height
It sure made for great looking sun last night, though.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, and this morning.
Joe Sushere
I wasn't gonna go outside and look.
Chris Reivers
Hey, I was down on the prairie last night after a resounding defeat in baseball, but John, you nailed it. I thought, boy, this air quality sucks, but wow, what a Great sunset. Wells, Minnesota. Do you want a recap of the 14U St. Patrick team defeat?
Joe Sushere
I'm tired of that. No, no, I hope everything went.
Kenny Olson
You've already told us too much.
Joe Sushere
Shereen Gandhi was the head of the Department of Human Services. Temporary, apparently serving as a temporary commissioner. Jody Harpstead was in there. And then who else? Help me. Come on, staff. Be sharp. Let's go.
Chris Reivers
Jody Herbstead.
Joe Sushere
Well, she. She. But now she's left.
Kenny Olson
Heather Mueller.
Joe Sushere
No, that was. That was education.
Kenny Olson
She fled.
Joe Sushere
That was education.
Kenny Olson
Amy Bach, she's in jail.
Joe Sushere
That's food fraud.
Kenny Olson
Julie Blaha is the Minnesota State auditor.
Chris Reivers
I wrote Jordy Harpstead. I should.
Joe Sushere
On Tuesday morning, a social media account known as Minnesota Staff Fraud Reporting Commentary published a photo, a photo of what appears to be an internal DH message about a retirement open house for Gandhi scheduled to take place, I guess, this coming Tuesday. Or maybe it was yesterday. What's the ast?
John Height
Two days ago.
Joe Sushere
Two days ago?
John Height
Today's Thursday.
Joe Sushere
Oh, yeah. So they all got together and had a cake for her and whatever, and she. She has accomplished nothing and was a significant part of being supposedly in charge when fraud was taking place. And I have no.
Chris Reivers
John Connolly is your temporary commissioner?
Joe Sushere
Yeah, he took over for Gandhi and
Chris Reivers
Gandhi took over for Harpstead.
Joe Sushere
Right.
Chris Reivers
Harpstead took over from a guy by the name of Tony Laurie who served from January 2019 to August.
Joe Sushere
And these stage gigs are really hell
Chris Reivers
of a run for Tony.
Joe Sushere
They're just good gigs because you can just screw up, accomplish nothing, foul up everything you touch. And they got a big cake for you. Can you go collect your gargantuan state pension and health care?
Chris Reivers
Harpstead served from August of 2019 to early 2025. Tony Laurie served from January 2019 to August of 2019.
Joe Sushere
Well, Walls knows how to pick him, doesn't he? Walls is the boss of all these people who failed Miserably. And Gandhi, you are a complete failure. And all of your public comments were absolutely useless. None of them were helpful. And now you're gone and you have a happy retirement. Look at yourself in the mirror every once in a while and think how much money you allowed this state to steal.
Kenny Olson
Well, according to her statement, she doesn't feel that way.
Joe Sushere
Well, I do feel that way.
Kenny Olson
Well, I know you do, but let me read to you what she said, and you probably already know this. She said more than 1.2 million children, families, older Minnesotans and people with disabilities depend on DHS for essential care. When I took. Excuse me. When I look back at my time at dhs, I'm proud of the work that we did to protect and strengthen these services.
Joe Sushere
What do you think she's going to say?
Kenny Olson
Yeah, that's pretty ballsy.
Joe Sushere
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Just to say that this, from what I understand, inside sources say that this retirement at this time has been long planned. And like you made reference to, she was there just long enough to get full benefits.
Joe Sushere
I'm sure she did. So, you know, the other way you could look at this and just keep it really simple is all those thousands of kids who didn't get fed, why are we out prosecuting their parents for starving them to death? Apparently we had so many kids in this state who didn't eat that their parents should have been held accountable. Of course they were eating. And they. They didn't require Abdul Salami to show up at the fake restaurant and serve 14,000 meals a week because none of it was ever happening, Shireen. None of it was ever happening. And Sherene, I don't think you were very kind to whistleblowers. And if it wasn't for whistleblowers, we wouldn't know what we know. So Shereen is gone. I don't even know who's. Oh, Conley's the current guy, right?
Kenny Olson
The current part time guy. Yeah. Filling in, from what I understand.
Joe Sushere
Well, Wallsey, you're doing a hell of a job.
Kenny Olson
And did you see Joe? What? The. The dh. You know about the DHS employees Twitter site, right? Which has been confirmed that it's legitimate. Their statement, your biggest contribution to the Minnesota DHS will be freeing up your position. You leave a legacy, just not the one you hoped for. A permanent example of incompetence and failure. So.
Joe Sushere
Well, in lack of courage, why not? Why not, Sherene? Why didn't you pound the desk and sell walls? Look at this is all corrupt. It's not working. We gotta stop paying this Money.
Kenny Olson
She saw. She saw this retirement date coming up. And that's. I'm positive that's what she was focused
Joe Sushere
on after putting her plans to retire on hold for more than a year. You mean she was gonna retire? You would have saved us a lot of money.
Chris Reivers
Her work wasn't done.
Joe Sushere
She kindly says, I'm immediately grateful for her remarkable leadership. There's nothing remarkable about it. You people live in a fantasy world.
Kenny Olson
And remember how she was removed and so she didn't have to testify the
Joe Sushere
day before she's supposed to testify. Conveniently enough, she can't testify because she's no longer the head of it and then made Conley.
Kenny Olson
And then what happened? Conley took a leave.
Joe Sushere
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Medical. And she stepped back in as temporary head.
Joe Sushere
Well, the temporary commissioner said DHS transformed our program integrity efforts. You are full of B as in B. S as in S. Congress. Connally's message also included a note from Gandhi. Oh, that's the 1.2 million families. All right, well, maybe she's got a lake place she can grow some tomatoes or something. I don't know. What difference does it make? Nobody cares. The state is so screwed up.
Chris Reivers
So that would be akin to, I got a review with the boss. Hey, I'm gonna step down, but then I'm gonna take the. Take the job back two days later. Is that kind of the same deal?
Joe Sushere
Yep. The family leave discussion yesterday was a big hit with GL emailers. And I got it a great. I got a great one from. Am I supposed to use the name here? Let's just say mj. My experience with the paid leave program as an employer just wanted to weigh in on the paid family leave Act. As a small business owner, it's total B as in B. S as in S. My husband and I run a third generation family business located in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul. We employ 27 full time employees. We had a more generous leave policy than the one forced upon us by the state. But since we were unable to opt out of the state program, we discontinued our own policy because we couldn't afford to keep both. As my husband said, the people who work for us will have to understand the consequences of who they vote for. Anyway. In early June, an employee had a legitimate health crisis and needed time away from work to deal with it. We instructed this employee to file for paid family leave. He did so on June 9th. Today is July 16th and his application is still pending review. Meaning he hasn't been paid at all. Both he and I have called deed to inquire and we're told applications are reviewed in the order they are received and he could expect a determination soon. If the intent of the program is to provide income while not at work, it's doing a lousy job. How does it help someone pay their bills if it takes months to get approval and receive payment bills? Don't pause while the application process is under review. Families still need to eat during this review period. We have decided to continue paying him until the state provides him retroactive leave pay so he's not dealing with a loss of income while also dealing with a serious health issue. We will figure out how to recoup our costs once the state pays him, likely by reducing his year end bonus. We felt this was the right thing to do for him because we are good and decent employers who want to take care of our people. What did I tell you yesterday? People are basically decent. They didn't need the state to tell them how they should be doing this. To add insult to Injury, on the 715 podcast you correctly stated that small employers under 30 people pay a lesser premium than large employers. As I mentioned at the start of this note, our company employs 27. Thus we set up our payroll deductions to reflect the lower premium rate. In early Feb we got a letter from DEED saying that due to our high gross payroll, we are considered a large employer and must pay the higher premium level. This later in this letter included a bill for what we owed in back premiums for the first few payrolls of the year. Wow. I've never been so angry in my life. Dean is understaffed to the point where my employee has been waiting over a month to get his benefits, but within a few weeks it was determined that we pay our people too well and we need to contribute more. Funny how they have time to figure that out, but not to administer benefits to someone who needs them. My husband and I are in our late 40s with kids about to start college, so we can't afford to quit our 63 year old business and start over someplace else. We are going to ride out the next seven to 10 years and as soon as our kids are through school we will close our doors and leave the state. We have lived here our entire lives, but this state is no longer a place we want to be. MG you can't hear it any better ladies and gentlemen, from a Minnesotan than that right there.
Chris Reivers
Something just struck me as you were reading that email you mentioned this. I think it was yesterday, the KSTP story about how we've already paid Out. Now, I know you're bad at math, but bear with me. 598 million has already been paid out in six months, right? January through June.
Joe Sushere
Yeah. Okay, I said that yesterday.
Chris Reivers
And you also said 75,000 people have been part of that 598 million. At least 124,000 more have applied.
Joe Sushere
Right.
Chris Reivers
If they're three months behind, that means that 598 is going to be chicken feed compared to what the bill is going to be throughout the rest of the calendar year.
Kenny Olson
That's a good point.
Joe Sushere
Okay, Galers, let me leave you with this. What evidence do you have in your life that compels you to trust these people? They have failed time after time after time to simply act competently on the business they're in. They don't do it well. They suffer no consequences for not doing it well. And this Paid Family and Medical Leave act, which they had three years to prepare, it was signed into law by Walls in 2023. They failed miserably to figure it out. This is what will continue to cost the workers and employers of Minnesota more and more money each year for a program that no one was asking for. It was thrust upon us. This is a lousy way to run a state in a lousy way to run a business. And I can't think of an emailer who has put it into better words than this MJ woman who was in the third generation of a family business. And she just told you the real facts of the impacts of this on actual people, not politicians who don't have any consequences on the people they put these consequences on. It is truly amazing. It's a dreadful situation. It should not have happened. I noticed something completely off topic, but I was reading a letter yesterday in one of the neighborhood newspapers in town in St. Paul,
Chris Reivers
and do they have a building?
Joe Sushere
Oh, maybe. I was reading in the newspaper. It was a letter from a proponent of the Summit Avenue Regional Bike Trail. Some people want it. Many people don't. And in that letter, it was noted. The planning commission has signed off on it. The. The city planners have signed off on it. The bicycle coalitions have signed on. And I asked myself, you're missing one group of people who were never asked about this.
Kenny Olson
Well, they don't matter.
Joe Sushere
The people who vote were never given a say in this. We have too much thrust upon us by politicians who have not consulted us,
Kenny Olson
the taxpayers on the route.
Joe Sushere
The highest taxpayers in the city of St. Louis.
John Height
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Yep. And their opinion doesn't matter.
Joe Sushere
And I read this. And I read this And I read this and I said the, the tail is wagging the dog here.
Kenny Olson
That's how all the bike trails have been put in in both cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul. They don't care about what the residents have to say.
Joe Sushere
I haven't because of my new way to get to work. I cross the river twice to get to get to kscp.
Kenny Olson
Which makes perfect sense in this case.
Joe Sushere
Right. Because the construction is so everywhere. So I hadn't been across the. I call it the Lake Street Bridge. Some people call it the Marshall Street Bridge, but it's the bridge, you know, the bridge right there, the bridge, it takes you from St. Paul onto Lake Street. I hadn't realized. Same with Franklin. It's a. It's half gone.
Kenny Olson
Franklin's really bad.
Joe Sushere
There's one lane that I drive on because there's no bus around that says bus only. Okay. I'm a big bus guy. I don't take the bus. But if I did, I take the bus. But there's no. They got room for a smart car.
Kenny Olson
Yeah. And then the bikes and the cars have to share. Like if there's a left, right turn, lane. You have to share that lane with bicycle riders.
Joe Sushere
Okay, that's fine.
Kenny Olson
That's fine with us. But the bicycle riders get really angry. They do not like.
Joe Sushere
And they all have a Suburban back in the driveway at home. So let's not be so hypocritical, everybody. Let's try and get along.
Kenny Olson
They're so put upon. I don't understand why bicycle riders think they're the most important people on the
Joe Sushere
road saving the earth.
Chris Reivers
And I love the guy that's all geared up. You know Ken, he's got the spandex on the helmet. Okay, ease up, Lance Armstrong.
Kenny Olson
Chris, do you mean the jackass who's riding in traffic instead on the bike. The bike trail that's right there. But you're in front of me.
Joe Sushere
Instead, let's celebrate America while I still exist. Here in its 250th birthday year, the center of the American Experiment will conduct a 250th block party, Saturday, July 25th. Is that a week from this Saturday?
Chris Reivers
Yes.
Joe Sushere
Yes. A week from this Saturday. Noon to 2 on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol. They doubt if walls will make an appearance, but they'll be there. The American Experiment is proud to lead our state's year long celebration of the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Live music, food trucks, free ice cream from the cup and cone in white bear face painting. Patriotic speeches and more. This is going to be Saturday, July 25th. Noon to two questions. See the events page at americanexperiment.org a site you should be checking every day. Anyway, it's really useful information. Americanexperiment.org.

Joe Sushere
King, I got a question for you.
Matthew Schoonover
What do you got?
Joe Sushere
Is the smoke affecting air travel? No. Okay, thank you. It's been reported in a number of sources, including the college fix, for which I am reading that the University of Minnesota has a project to create therapeutic transgender dolls for children as young as four. All right. Grooming is a major problem, isn't it? Grounded in gender affirming clinical practices, the dolls will be a therapeutic resource for clinicians and educators to work with children ages 4 to 10. This is what it says on the My Gender Dolls website. Okay. The new website only includes a few details about the dolls. A year long project by the faculty at the university's Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health. I didn't know we had that. Do they have their own section at the football games? No, not yet.
Matthew Schoonover
Maybe.
Joe Sushere
According to the page, my gender dolls mimic classic paper dolls featuring drawings of children of different ages, shapes and skin colors. To represent all kids, okay, you got to represent all the kids. Did I ever tell you about my grandmother's doll collection? Creepy or cool? Just a minute.
Matthew Schoonover
Okay.
Chris Reivers
The ones that are like this, how
Matthew Schoonover
many transgender dolls did she have in that collection?
Joe Sushere
For all I know, they all weren't.
Kenny Olson
They all smooth down there.
Chris Reivers
They all looked really surprised.
Joe Sushere
Rightfully, this project has attracted criticisms from. Criticism from the American College of Pediatric. The American College of Pediatricians is focused on protecting the biological integrity of kids against transgender ideology. Dr. Quentin Van Meter, immediate past president, told the college fix via email that the dolls are just a grooming tool and have no place in an ethical medical care world. Van Meter is outraged that even kids 3 to 7 are being exposed to this, which could cause children to be confused. Really? I think it could be and be vulnerable to anxiety. Van Meter says the clear basis for gender dysphoria is emotional trauma caused by ideologues as parents or teachers or counselors. Well, just a minute. Do you have a problem that you can't handle like an adult?
Josh Arnold
I can't.
Joe Sushere
Look at Matthew. What did he do? What the hell's wrong with you?
Matthew Schoonover
What did I do?
John Height
I just.
Chris Reivers
In my mind I could think of,
John Height
what is your grandma's dog collection?
Matthew Schoonover
And young Joe Sushiri showing up sitting in the closet there. Hey, I got my flashlight with my curb drags.
Kenny Olson
His vacuum in there.
Matthew Schoonover
Trying to set the mood here.
Joe Sushere
Hang on.
Kenny Olson
Light a candle.
Matthew Schoonover
Opening. Opening the door to the smell of boiled ham.
Joe Sushere
Oh, my gosh.
Kenny Olson
Boy, probably brought in a peanut butter
Matthew Schoonover
and nana sandwich camping out for the day.
Joe Sushere
She had the most. Some of the most magnificent dolls you've ever seen.
Matthew Schoonover
Porcelain, I would imagine.
Joe Sushere
Yes. Gorgeous.
Kenny Olson
Did any of them have the blinking.
Joe Sushere
She made the clothing for all of them.
Matthew Schoonover
That would be.
Joe Sushere
That would be the just extraordinary. I don't know who got them. I think my cousins did, which.
Chris Reivers
Oh, you weren't the recipient, I hope.
Joe Sushere
They did.
Matthew Schoonover
I put together an ensem.
Joe Sushere
What I wanted was she had a card shuffler. I wanted that, but I don't know who got that, but play a little
Matthew Schoonover
three card Monty with the. With the dolls.
Joe Sushere
But these dolls.
Matthew Schoonover
You lose again. I'm taking your top off.
Kenny Olson
Strip poker with the dolls.
Matthew Schoonover
You got to learn somehow. Wow. Bracelets don't count. Hang on.
Joe Sushere
You know, let me.
Kenny Olson
Let me tell you something so twisted.
Joe Sushere
No, let me.
John Height
Let me me.
Joe Sushere
Let me tell you.
Kenny Olson
I thought you were a church.
Joe Sushere
Let me tell you something. If I was with the Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and gender Health. I'd go ahead with this project just. Just because there are people like us in the world. Why the hell should we be taken seriously when you two idiots have to carry on like this?
Matthew Schoonover
Professional now.
Joe Sushere
Yeah, sure you are.
Kenny Olson
Can we jump ahead in the story?
Joe Sushere
Well, what's the point of it now? It's been ruined by morons.
Kenny Olson
No, you can recover. We can recover, Joe, because I want you to talk about the funding of this project. Am I paying for this?
Joe Sushere
Here I go. It should be determined whether the project is being funded by taxpayers, which would be an added outrage. And another thing, we'd have no say over you. The Minnesota's program director is claiming the My Gender Dolls Team prize was solely funded through private donations. Sadly, this is not the first occasion that the Trans Agenda has engaged in this. At the U of m. In a 2024 post on Instagram, the university's national center for Gender Health also offered to pay transgender and gender diverse children between the ages of 5 and 10 years old to play with the dolls. Hopefully, they will end this immoral and inappropriate. Are you on the ball there?
Chris Reivers
I gotcha.
Joe Sushere
Hopefully they will end this immoral and inappropriate program at a place which is officially designated for higher learning. I just don't think that you need to involve kids who are 4 years old. I just think it's an outrage, and there's not much I can do about it.
Matthew Schoonover
I don't know how one that young could even hint that they would rather whether they have the purse gene or the vroom gene, as you referred to it years ago.
Joe Sushere
Yeah, well, if the little kid plays with trucks and she's a girl, so what? And if the little guy plays with dolls when he's a little kid, so what?
Kenny Olson
I'm. I'm still not clear, Joe. I'm not clear on the funding. Evidently, they won a cash prize from Mincore, the program at the U of up to $3,000. They received a total of 16 million, according to their website.
Joe Sushere
16 million for this.
Kenny Olson
The transgender project also received funding from the university's Early Innovation Fund, which offers awards up to 10,000. But yet, like you said, that lady said that this has all been funded by donations. So who do you believe here?
Joe Sushere
Not to mention, now that I'm thinking about it, and I really didn't want to think about it, what the hell would a transgender doll look like? It would just. If it was a train, a picture. Do you have some? If it was a transgender male doll, wouldn't it just look like a little boy doll?
Kenny Olson
Yeah, but with double D's.
Joe Sushere
Well, that'd be. That'd be terrible. Well, never mind. The hell with them. I don't care. Do what you got to do. There's nothing I can do about it.
Kenny Olson
Not if it's your money.
Josh Arnold
You.
Joe Sushere
Oh, my money is wasted by this state in so many ways. I can't keep track of it.
Kenny Olson
You're exhausted.
Joe Sushere
I'm looking at a photo.
Chris Reivers
Okay, I'm gonna try to hold it together here. I'm looking at a photo. It's an NPR piece of the transgender.
Joe Sushere
We're all for it.
Chris Reivers
Gender neutral dolls. Yeah, and there's one.
Joe Sushere
Can I. Can I walk over there and look at it?
Matthew Schoonover
She's.
Chris Reivers
She's a lovely young lady.
Matthew Schoonover
Is it an imperfect science, even for dolls?
Chris Reivers
She has a nice Adam's apple.
Joe Sushere
Whoa. Where do you see this right here? I don't see.
Chris Reivers
Look at that.
Joe Sushere
See?
Chris Reivers
They're just dolls. Just like the ones you grew up with at Grandma's house.
Joe Sushere
Oh, I get it, though. They were half clothing.
Kenny Olson
See,
Joe Sushere
I get it. See, I get it. I get it.
Chris Reivers
When you went to Nana's house on a Sunday after church and you were playing with dolls, did you name the dolls?
Kenny Olson
No.
Joe Sushere
No, they were on Tea Party. Beautiful. What do you call those things?
Chris Reivers
Yeah, beautiful hair in old houses.
Joe Sushere
Hutches. No, Matt, I know what a dollhouse is. I didn't say doll house.
John Height
I said.
Joe Sushere
I'm talking about a hutch.
Matthew Schoonover
Oh, a hutch. Like in a couple.
Joe Sushere
And they're mirrored, and they have beautiful glass over it and all that.
Matthew Schoonover
Well, glass doors.
Chris Reivers
He knows doll houses because there is a Barbie collection at the Sushiri home.
Joe Sushere
A collection. And then there's not even room to live there.
Matthew Schoonover
And in the bottom of the hutch. In the bottom of the hutch, there was a wooden box that housed all the nice silver that would be brought out maybe twice a year. Black felt lining. It fit inside those. The fork. Well, all the forks, the knives.
Josh Arnold
She was.
Joe Sushere
She was.
Chris Reivers
She was very Christmas gathering.
Joe Sushere
This is the girl that we know from the grass hut. This is from. No, this is no fancy. Grandma was my mom's mom. Oh. This is my dad's mom. She was born in a. In the. In the hut. Hut. Hut.
Matthew Schoonover
She had the grandma shoes, but.
Joe Sushere
Very elegant woman.
Kenny Olson
Okay, Joe, before you wrap up this story, I think we need to quote a great poet who wrote about this very subject. Here comes Dick. He's wearing a skirt. Here comes Jane. You know, she's sporting a chain. Same hair revolution, same build. Evolution tomorrow. Who's gonna fuss. And they love each other. So. Androgynous. The great Paul Westerberg.
Joe Sushere
Yes.
John Height
Yeah, that. Oddly enough, I was looking at these. There are Mattel Barbie dolls that are this. And maybe that's what Chris was looking at.
Chris Reivers
That's. That's exactly what I was referring to.
Joe Sushere
Dress. One half the doll's got pants on, the other half the doll's got a skirt.
Kenny Olson
What about. Does she have a big old.
John Height
No, there's no anatomic feature. They're all just straight. Yeah, you know, straight bodies. You know what I mean? You know what I mean?
Chris Reivers
And oddly enough, they're. All of these girls are playing sports. You know, one's a swimmer, got the swimsuit on like Lily Thomas the Cat.
Kenny Olson
I fixed all my GI Joes so we knew that they were men. Took care of that. Right now. That black GI Joe though.
Joe Sushere
Oh my God. Yeah, yeah. Hey.
Kenny Olson
Yeah. I named him Charles. He had a swagger about him.
Matthew Schoonover
He walked with confidence. That's what we said about Charles.
Kenny Olson
Yes, he did.
Joe Sushere
You'll be all right.
Matthew Schoonover
Yes.
Josh Arnold
Oh my God.
Joe Sushere
Can we. I. I don't know what. What to do anymore.
Chris Reivers
Good luck leading you to that spot.
Kenny Olson
Let me just cross tranny dolls off the list.
Joe Sushere
Well, there's nothing to say except I think it's insidious and evil to attempt to ideologically corrupt a 4 year old. Couldn't agree more. I'm ashamed of it and I'm embarrassed. And it's just one more example of how I have absolutely no control over how the state spends my money.
John Height
You just summed that story up in 30 seconds. If you could do that with every story, think how many topics we could get through with a show.
Joe Sushere
You want us to get through more?
Kenny Olson
We'd be out of here in 10 minutes.
Chris Reivers
You'd be like a fill in host.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, exactly.
Chris Reivers
Piling through. Slow down, bud. Slow down.
Joe Sushere
Wasn't there a show where I was done with everything in the first segment?
Matthew Schoonover
Yes, I believe you had an appointment.
Joe Sushere
I mean, I had a brain slip or something. I just fired through everything and it was the first segment and we were done.
Kenny Olson
It wasn't that long ago.
Matthew Schoonover
Actually, it was Monday, wasn't it?
Kenny Olson
I think.
Chris Reivers
No, I believe the reason you did that was you had an appointment about 2.4 miles from here. Oh, at about 2o'.
Joe Sushere
Clock, say G. Ellers. It's riding season. I don't know about today though. Oh, and I don't know if Ecofund can get you into a cargo bike, but if anybody could, Ecofund will be ahead of the curve if electric cargo bikes start being manufactured. Ecofund Motorsports in Forest Lake, Columbus on Highway 97 immediately west of 35. They are the leading retailer of electric bikes in the state and electric bikes are on sale now starting at 899. Motorcycles there's 120 on display. Kawasaki Aprilia Yamaha Scooters I happen to be partial to scooters. Yep, I'm doing 90 miles of errands on one gallon of gas on my scooter. I love them. I don't recommend them for anything except safe urban travel. But you know, I figure out routes where I never see another vehicle and they got Kawasaki side by sides and Yamaha Waverunners and Kawasaki Jet Skis. It is the most fun store you'll ever enter in your life. It's Eco Fun Motorsports in Forest Lake 97 west of 35. Joe Sushere
Can you play that last bump for me? Because I have some questions or. You can't choose.
Chris Reivers
It's on a loop on the john.
Joe Sushere
Was that Dylan?
John Height
That was Dylan. I was sitting here listening to the solo. I'd never really listened to it before.
Joe Sushere
Is Dylan gonna join us at the fair Budd chance?
John Height
He's working. I don't know if he'll be working those days. I can check.
Joe Sushere
I'd love him to play that. I want to hear that in its entirety.
Kenny Olson
He'll have to relearn it. I guarantee you, since that time, he's played so many songs, he has no
John Height
earthly idea what key that is in, what chords are involved.
Joe Sushere
If he heard it once, he'd know.
John Height
Well, yeah, we can.
Joe Sushere
You know, he could learn it, sure.
Kenny Olson
I'm sure he could fake his way through it better than most, that's for sure. Because he's amazing.
Joe Sushere
I Love that song.
John Height
Yeah. That solo. Wow. That was. That was very good. Never really listened to the whole thing.
Joe Sushere
Here's John Haidt.
John Height
That means I wasn't listening to the ad. I'm sorry, Chris. That's okay.
Chris Reivers
Not offended.
John Height
Thanks, Joe. This news brought to you by North American Banking Company. Wildfires have nearly doubled in size in Minnesota. The last 24 hours have consumed more than 60,000 acres and counting across two counties in northern Minnesota. The Minnesota Incident Command Team says it saw significant fire growth over the Wilderness fire yesterday and at the same on Tuesday. Excuse me. And the same happened yesterday in what was described as a dynamic fire day. Currently, the Incident Command team reports 15 active wildfires after several of them merged together, adding to a smoke issue. Hundreds of wildfires in Canada. Officials say ongoing heat and dry conditions are making it difficult to fight the blazes. And poor air quality due to heavy smoke is also reducing the visibility for any aircraft to fight the fires. A spokesperson for the weather service Phil Manual said firefighting efforts are expected to continue. This is his quote. Until it snows. As the fires have grown so large, they can now sustain themselves. Well, basically till it snows.
Joe Sushere
60,000 acres so far. That's just in Minnesota.
John Height
That's just in Minnesota. And yeah, barely contained anything at all.
Joe Sushere
60,000 acres is not yet the size of Mille Lacs. I'm not doing it. Diminishing the fire. I'm saying, isn't that amazing that 60,000 acres can result in this much smoke?
John Height
As for how the fire started, Manuel said, on the evening of July 6, storms with little rain and well over 1000 lightning strikes followed by high temps and dry, windy conditions created the opportunity for the wildfires to ignite.
Kenny Olson
I have managed to make this about myself and I worked myself up into a tizzy yesterday. I. I need to bur some piles of brush.
Joe Sushere
Well, you can't.
Kenny Olson
I need a north. Well, not so fast. I need a north wind in order to burn these. I saw that on Friday. We're going to have the north wind. I go to the Minnesota DNR to get myself a burn permit. You need a burn permit? Turns out, lush and green and heavily watered. Douglas county is under burning restrictions because we have a moderate risk, which I feel. That's an outrage. These piles are in the middle of long green grass. Nothing will start.
Joe Sushere
I have no sympathy for you.
Kenny Olson
Neither did my bride. And it actually came to blows. We were trading blows last night. We were so fighting so much. She ended up with a swift kick to the groin area. And that put me down.
John Height
So she won. She won the bout.
Kenny Olson
She always wins.
Joe Sushere
G1.
John Height
Meanwhile, the Minnesota pollution Control Agency has expanded its air quality alert due to the smoke from these fires. It's now called. And I had to look all this up. I didn't know what any of this meant. A hazardous maroon designation.
Joe Sushere
Now we got a new color.
Matthew Schoonover
What?
Chris Reivers
Where does maroon fall on the spectrum?
Joe Sushere
Maroons the worst.
Matthew Schoonover
Are we really afraid of maroon?
John Height
Maroon.
Joe Sushere
We're the worst.
John Height
As Joe said, maroon is the highest fire designation you can have. It means the air is hazardous for everyone and everyone will be affected. Most people will have irritated eyes, nose and throat, coughing, chest tightness or shortness of breath. Anyone could experience serious heart and lung effects such as asthma attacks, heart attacks or strokes. And the maroon also means you should avoid physical activity outdoors. Sensitive groups should just not go out, Stay indoors, keep activity levels low, and keep indoor air as clean as possible.
Kenny Olson
Does anybody know? Did they get all the campers out of the boundary walls?
Joe Sushere
They did okay. Including campers stranded in Canada and then
Kenny Olson
they bounced them to Ely and now Ely is evacuating, too.
Chris Reivers
The only thing above that I believe is maroon and gold.
Joe Sushere
All right, thanks, Doogie.
Josh Arnold
Good job.
Joe Sushere
Thank you.
John Height
Kind of a maroon yourself, Chris.
Joe Sushere
Thank you.
John Height
A former ICE agent from Egan was sentenced to seven years in prison after admitting to producing child sexual abuse material. U. S. Attorney's office For Minnesota announced 53 year old Timothy Gregg sentenced to 84 months in prison for his role in transporting and producing child sexual abuse material. At the time of the conduct, officials said Greg was a special agent with homeland security investigations in Minnesota and a task force officer with the FBI. Federal officials said there is zero tolerance for crimes against children. Will hold all offenders accountable.
Joe Sushere
Isn't it bad enough to shoot people?
John Height
St. Paul is moving to rename Cesar Chavez street on the city's west side. Chavez, one of the most prominent figures in the Latino civil rights movement, has had schools, parks and streets across the country named after him. But after allegations surfaced in March that he sexually abused multiple women, including minors, over several years, communities across the country have removed those tributes. In St. Paul, Cesar Chavez street runs between Wabasha and Concord streets through District del Sol, the west side's commercial corridor aligned with Latino owned businesses. Neighborhood's Latino community dates to the early 1900s when Mexican workers began settling there. At age 66, Chavez died in 1993. The section of Concord street was renamed in his honor in 2004. The Westside community organization is now asking residents to help rename the street. That organization will hold three community listening sessions at Neighborhood House at 179 Roby Street east this month.
Chris Reivers
Wow. So you're telling me he got all that stuff removed because he sexually abused minors?
Joe Sushere
Wow.
Chris Reivers
If that happened today, he'd be pardoned by Tim Walls. Did you hear his freaking press conference yesterday? This guy is an absolute freaking embarrassment.
Joe Sushere
He said the guy reformed his life or something. I don't know.
John Height
Update to a story from a couple years ago. You guys remember this? We talked about it. Remember Ryan Borgwatt? He's the. He's the fella who staged his own death on Big Green Lake in Wisconsin.
Joe Sushere
My hero went to Bos.
Josh Arnold
Hers.
Joe Sushere
Hers. I don't give that.
John Height
Yeah, he. He resurfaced after authorities found out he had fled to Europe. Well, the Wentz Wisconsin DNR announced yesterday restitution from Borgwatt paid for brand new equipment for underwater searches. A 2025 Green Lake County Circuit Court ruling ordered him to pay restitution for about 350 hours of DNR search efforts. The DNR said it used about nine grand of that money to buy a tow fish sonar unit. The agency said that equipment maps the bottom of bodies of water to help locate missing people, items and hazards. The DNR said the tow fish has already been used on four missions. State officials said it has helped locate two missing people.
Joe Sushere
I think Green Lake's a very deep lake. It's a very neat lake.
Chris Reivers
You know, speaking of that, I do have this audio. I didn't know if Johnny was going to bring up Governor Walls at all to. He had a little press conference yesterday and he's speaking into a Channel five microphone. I'm lifting this audio from the Rochester affiliate of kstp. Just listen to how he is trying to pass off his pardoning of this gentleman that raped a 10 year old.
Josh Arnold
All right.
Joe Sushere
Well, speaking to the news media today, the governor was asked about the 42 year old father's recent deportation.
Chris Reivers
Did that make us any safer?
John Height
Did that make the children that are
Chris Reivers
left behind any more stable? Did it improve the idea that we
Joe Sushere
can't all be judged by our worst day? We can't all be judged by our worst day.
Kenny Olson
Wow.
Joe Sushere
Yikes.
Chris Reivers
That was kttc. Thank you. Kttc.
Joe Sushere
He meant deporting him. Did that make the city safer? That's what he meant, yes. In other words, he's trying to defend his position.
Josh Arnold
Why?
Chris Reivers
Is that a hill you're willing to die on?
Joe Sushere
I don't know. I have no idea.
Chris Reivers
You are an embarrassment to this state.
Joe Sushere
Well, he has been for quite some time. But this is.
Chris Reivers
Isn't this just the icing on the cake?
Joe Sushere
I think so.
Chris Reivers
You pardon a man who raped a 10 year old repeatedly.
Joe Sushere
We can't all be judged by our worst day.
Matthew Schoonover
Green Lake, Wisconsin is its impressive 237foot depth to ancient Green Bay. Lo of the Wisconsin glaciation over 12,000 years ago.
Joe Sushere
Thank you very much.
Matthew Schoonover
It just zipped right through there.
Joe Sushere
Thank you.
John Height
You know, Minnesota State Fair says it's currently hiring for fair time positions at its employment center will host a job fair next Wednesday. According to the Minnesota State Fair. Typically they hire about 3,000 people each year to work in various departments during the 12 days of the fair. If hired employees who work the fair can attend celebrations at the fair for free. The Fair runs from August 27 through September 7 this year. A rather late.
Chris Reivers
Is wax hands accepting applications?
Matthew Schoonover
Wax hands isn't. But I remember Bob used to park cars. He was a flag man. The old man was a flag man for the state fair and he would. I think he was on the Hoyt side. Hoyt Snelling lot.
Joe Sushere
Oh yeah, yeah.
Matthew Schoonover
And I think if you had the Matt Magic wink or handshake, you might be able to, you know, get a good spot.
Joe Sushere
Sure.
Matthew Schoonover
Yeah.
Joe Sushere
Those were.
Chris Reivers
Was he, was he an aggressive flag
Matthew Schoonover
waiver or more the casual. I think the Bud lights that were probably in the cooler were. You know, he had the. He had the pipsy wraps on him.
Kenny Olson
I went to the east coast once with those. Matthew.
Chris Reivers
Dr. Pupper or Popper?
Joe Sushere
Yeah, Dr. Popper.
John Height
Why don't we take a quick break here and we'll be back with more news. This is after this.
Kenny Olson
It's already positive Thursday and it's brought to us by Schoonover Body Works and Auto Care. They're right there in Shoreview. 1060 County Road E. Mike Schoonover is here to keep it positive. Also here is Joe Sushire whose CP evidently hit something and then kept hitting it and kept hitting it it and kept hitting it. And now her ride is at scoon over.
Joe Sushere
It's not there yet.
Kenny Olson
Body Works and Auto Care.
Joe Sushere
Yeah, scoony. The women in my family, when they hit something, they just keep hitting it until they're done.
Josh Arnold
Well, you know what that women are. That's why women are important are in life. They just keep moving forward.
Joe Sushere
Joe boy, you got me out of that one.
Kenny Olson
That was a positive twist. Nice.
Joe Sushere
Very charitable of you.
Kenny Olson
Nice.
Josh Arnold
Keep going. Don't stop.
Joe Sushere
Don't stop. Finish the job.
Kenny Olson
Now, have you had a chance, Mike, to look at her car? Yet are you going to be replacing the whole side of the thing from front fender to back fender?
Josh Arnold
Young Matthew Schoonover looked at it, and I believe he has the plan in store for her. So, yes, in the next couple of weeks, we'll be. We'll be getting her ride in the. In the shop and shining it up,
Kenny Olson
up in cases like this. Do you order, like, say, if. If you had to, a front quarter panel ahead of time, so it's right there waiting? Yeah, absolutely.
Josh Arnold
Because it's a new car. There's no. Really. There's no risk of it going total. So we will order the parts and minimize the amount of time that we got it in the shop so that we can get it in, get it out, get her back on the road, even though she'll be in a rental car. Oh, rental cars are great, but they're not your own car. Car. No, you got it. You know, you got to learn how to drive a. A rental car. So we know that that's a. That's a. That's a nice convenience, but nothing beats your own car. So we try to get folks back in there.
Kenny Olson
Mike. In my case, somebody had to teach me how to start it. Now, I have a dumb question about ordering, like, say, quarter panels. Can you ever order them already painted and ready to put on, or is it always a case of you guys have to pay paint it
Josh Arnold
99.9 of the time? You are not going to get them painted in color.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Josh Arnold
You're gonna get one in color. You're gonna order it used, and. And it's going to be shipped from Timbuktu, and by the time it gets here, you're going to be painting it.
Kenny Olson
You know, it would be a fun YouTube story if Matthew, your young son, could get everything on videotape involving Joe's car and the cp. That would. That would be fun. I think you'd get some clicks on that.
Josh Arnold
We'll see. We'll have to get the cps of permission on that because, you know, Joe's. Joe's doesn't have standing ground on that relationship.
Joe Sushere
She'd probably do it if she got to be in the film.
Kenny Olson
Maybe I shouldn't bring it up.
Joe Sushere
No, I don't think you should.
Kenny Olson
Team Schoonover's been around for 88 years, and in that time, you know what? They've learned a thing or two, and that's why they're always rated as one of the top shops in the metro. Also, the official shop of garage Logic on the corner of Lexington and County E and Shore View within view of Tower Farm on some days and they're on the web@schoonoverbodyworks.com thanks Mike.
Josh Arnold
Thanks Kenny. Thanks Joe. Thanks Yellers. You guys have a great day.
Joe Sushere
See you later. The earth is not your mother. The Joe Smith

Filings for unemployment benefits fell last week to the lowest level in 10 weeks, as US layoffs remain historically low. The number of Americans applying for jobless aid in the week ending July 11 dropped by 8,000 to 208,000, according to the Labor Department, well below the 219,000 new applications forecast by analysts surveyed by the data firm Fact Set. Republicans like Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana are saying they'd like the president to hone in on the economy tonight in a speech that he's set to give, but it's not known if he will. President says the speech will include elections and voting machines, suggesting he's likely to revisit some of the unproven claims he has previously made about Republican losses, especially his own goal in 2020. The president has offered only vague details about the address. When asked by a reporter if it would concern election Mach machines and integrity, the president said it would concern that subject and, quote, we'll have a couple of other things to say also, if you have any interest. That starts at about 8 o' clock our time. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announcing yesterday a new mandatory screening program to test all Service members age 30 and older, including women, for testosterone deficiency.
Joe Sushere
Women don't have testosterone now.
John Height
They're going to get tested anyway. Apparently. Joe, hormone treatment for troops with low testosterone will be voluntary. This is kind of like your GI Joe thing, Kenny, you know, kind of related vaguely.
Kenny Olson
So strap up.
Joe Sushere
What are women supposed to do? They have no testosterone.
John Height
Hagseth said in a video from his Pentagon office, our most decisive tactical advantage will always be the individual war fighter. We have a sacred duty to maintain that advantage. The goal, he said in a social media message accompanying the video, was a high T. Department of War excess focus on testosterone levels at a moment when US Forces are ramping up attacks in Iran is unorthodox. Defense secretaries typically focus on larger strategic questions involving alliances, war, and weapons production.
Chris Reivers
Joe, I just asked AI, do Lieutenant Dan, do women have testosterone? Okay. Yes. Girls and women naturally do produce testosterone. While it's known as a male hormone, it is just as essential in the female body. I didn't know that Girls produce testosterone. Their overall levels are typically much lower than males. Levels for adult females range between 9 and 55 NGDL, whatever that means.
Joe Sushere
Will Pete take this into consideration?
Chris Reivers
I think he will. And as a follow up, under the Biden administration, testicular injuries in Women's sports grew 3,000%.
Joe Sushere
Testicular girls playing.
Kenny Olson
You're supposed to laugh at that.
Joe Sushere
Oh, that's funny.
Chris Reivers
Boys playing women's sports.
Joe Sushere
Oh, comedy.
Kenny Olson
Do you get it?
Matthew Schoonover
You do a comedy show.
Kenny Olson
Do you get it? Do you get it? Do you get it?
Chris Reivers
See, because like, when.
Joe Sushere
That's not any of that ordinary comedy, is it?
Chris Reivers
No, no, it's another level.
Matthew Schoonover
This. You can't beat that testosterone humor. You know,
John Height
Sterling from Hegseth will apply to troops 30 and older. And if you're under 30 and a soldier you'd like to be screened, you can volunteer to be screened. And if you're low, they'll give you the option.
Joe Sushere
Are you addressing this to the troops, John?
John Height
Yeah.
Joe Sushere
All right.
Chris Reivers
Well, based upon our ad yesterday, John, just go to Mars, men.
John Height
And anyone with lower hormone level hormone. Hormone levels will have the option to receive testosterone replacement therapy or TRT.
Joe Sushere
All right.
John Height
United States Mint will begin pressing $1 gold coins emblazoned with President Trump's face, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.
Chris Reivers
How many you want, Joe? One, two?
Joe Sushere
Well, the. The beauty of it is I don't have to have one.
Josh Arnold
Now.
John Height
There is some questions about the legality of all this. The United States treasury said the $1 coin is in production in Philadelphia, will be released in the fall. And it's. It has a gold like finish. It's not really made of gold.
Kenny Olson
I know it sounds like they're going to take the paper one out of circulation and we're going to be using this coin so you will have to have them.
John Height
Kenny's hot metal. It's metal. Painted gold.
Chris Reivers
Yeah, they're recycled Diet Coke cans.
John Height
Now congressional Democrats and some numismatists or coin collectors are criticizing the coin because federal law says says only the portrait of a deceased individual can appear on US currency and securities. The treasury has argued its Authority for the $1 coin comes from a 2020 law allowing the pressing of celebratory 250th anniversary pieces.
Joe Sushere
Boy, there's always a loophole isn't there John? I guess.
Matthew Schoonover
What was my guy Wayne Hassell as a stamp collector. What was that?
Joe Sushere
Stamp collectors are called stampologists.
John Height
No, no it's. Isn't it numismatus or something like that? Okay, yeah, I don't know that word.
Matthew Schoonover
Yeah.
John Height
Sometimes boy you just think this can't happen fast enough. And earthquake has hit Yellowstone National Park. Yeah, Just miles from the ancient super volcano feared to be overdue for a catastrophic eruption.
Chris Reivers
Is this the one Ken, where you're driving straight towards it? Isn't that Yellowstone?
Matthew Schoonover
The earthquake?
Joe Sushere
What do you mean you're driving straight towards?
Chris Reivers
What if the geyser goes off? We're all doomed anyway. Ken says he's getting truck and heading straight towards it.
Kenny Olson
Mere miles from the east gate on Saturday.
Joe Sushere
Wow.
John Height
U.S. geological Survey detected a magnitude 3.3 quake this morning at 8:20 or 7:20. No, 8:20 our time. I'm sorry. Right along the Yellowstone river inside the park. Minor quakes epicenter was recorded just seven miles from the Yellowstone caldera that is the bowl shaped volcanic depression within the national park. Last year scientists discovered tens of thousands of previously unrecorded small earthquakes which could be hinting Yellowstone supervolcano is building up to an eruption. An international research team used AI to listen to 15 years of Yellowstone recordings and discovered 86,000 tiny earthquakes that human experts had missed. In the past three weeks 11 minor quakes have been recorded by the USGS in the area around the caldera. Thursday's earthquake reportedly produced only light shaking in the 2.2 million acre park that spans across Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. However, since the ancient site has not exploded in about 640,000 years, some experts and locals think the volcano is overdue for an eruption that could potentially devastate the central United States.
Matthew Schoonover
I'm sorry but do I have your permission to call Kenny out on something on the Show.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, go ahead.
Matthew Schoonover
I'm going to call you out as playing the role of Chris Reavers.
Chris Reivers
What?
Matthew Schoonover
When you said, you know, I drove by there two weeks ago. You know the boys.
Joe Sushere
About six months ago, we drove by the 711 that blew up.
Kenny Olson
I hung a left, Matthew, I hung a left from the Beartooth highway onto Chief Joseph highway, which is not too far from the Silver Gate and Cook side City. So I was very close to the game.
Matthew Schoonover
You were close to danger.
Joe Sushere
Well, let me just tell you something. If that sucker blows, today will look like clear air.
Chris Reivers
That's true.
John Height
We now have a list of the 10 fittest cities in America.
Joe Sushere
I bet we're in the top 10 some.
Kenny Olson
You bet. My town isn't even in the top 1000.
John Height
Cities that ranked in the top 10 share common traits. According to the American College of Sports Medicine's annual fitness index. The cities have strong active transportation systems, high physical activity rates, broad access to parks and recreation, and policies that support active lifestyles. Number one fittest city on the list, Arlington, Virginia. Number two, Washington, D.C. and number three, Minneapolis.
Josh Arnold
Sure.
Joe Sushere
Of course it is. So there you go. Thank you, John.
Chris Reivers
Because we're running from all the fraud.
Joe Sushere
That's right. Thank you very much. Yeah, sure. We'll see you in a bit.
Chris Reivers
Okay. But you know what? First we've got to hear about North American Banking Company. You know what? They love John Heights newscast so much, they sponsor it each and every single day. That's the commitment. That's the commitment to creating a better banking experience for their customers where you get to know your banker and they also get to know you. You know what? They have been delivering on that promise since 1998. A lot has changed since then. However, this commitment to being a true community bank in the Twin Cities, that has not changed.
Joe Sushere
Changed.
Chris Reivers
It will never change. And you see that every single time that you walk into any one of their six Twin Cities locations, whether it's 50th in France, Roseville, Woodbury, Hastings, Shoreview, and also in Maple Grove. They offer you the same updated online and mobile banking tools as all of those other big national banks. But the key difference is all of that money stays right here in the community because they want to create a better banking experience for you, your family, family, and also your business. And it doesn't matter what you're looking to do. Buy a new home. Yep. They got you taken cover. Buy a new car. Yep. They can handle that, too. And you know what? Starting a new business, they're going to invest in that as well. But see it for yourself. Check them out online today it's nabankco.com to learn more. It's banking done differently. North American banking company member FDIC is an equal housing lender.
Joe Sushere
He'll be quiet.
Matthew Schoonover
He escaped.
Chris Reivers
Here's a man who spends hours in
Joe Sushere
hardware stores sifting through the nuts and bolts of life.
Matthew Schoonover
Joe Sushere, that file, working on that, that iron bar.
Joe Sushere
You'll.
John Height
You know what?
Chris Reivers
We can't be judged on our worst day.
Joe Sushere
Let's get back to the show. We're aware of the dust up that Sheriff Fleck Thatcher brought into play by commenting on Somali gangs. And then the Somali leaders had a press conference in front of city hall. Of course they did. And they were very angry that such things were pointed out. And now we have a new wrinkle in the way we are to understand our Somali brothers and sisters. When an elected sheriff speaks, his words carry tremendous weight. Wait, said Yusra Mahmoud of Somali American Partnership. Sheriff Fletcher chose to have the conversation in public. That is not how we should build trust.
Matthew Schoonover
Oh, just keep it in secret.
Joe Sushere
So the Somalis want these conversations to be not in the public. They should be held privately. No Somalis, that's, that's not the way it works. And you say the Somali American trust. Where's the American part of that? I got a note from.
Kenny Olson
Hold on. Before you move forward, I wanted to say something I learned looking into this. It sounds like a lot of this is tribal within the Somalis. That there is a group of Somalis that have been working with Sheriff Fletcher all along and they agree with him and they want to work with him to get rid of. These are help solve this gang problem.
Joe Sushere
Yes.
Kenny Olson
And then it's the other tribe evidently from what I'm hearing that are making all this noise and they're the ones doing the protest, et cetera, et cetera. So that's just what I've learned in the last few days.
Joe Sushere
I got a note from a fellow who said, I wish someone would say this to the Somali leadership. That's from Bert. Look, we know you are displaced from your homeland for one reason or another. And you are here, we are welcome. But you are here now. And this is a first world nation so far, not a failed state in the third world. We are not going to move backwards because a few of your brethren have terribly thin skins and have had their feelings hurt so far. The Somali population does not have a great record here in the usa. Perhaps we can work together to solve some of those problems. But the continuous false Accusations of racism and this or the. That phobia will do nothing to address the issues. And if the Somali community maintains this stance of perpetual and imaginary victimhood, things will only get worse. Please grow up and join us in being American. It'll never work, but that's exactly what should be said.
Matthew Schoonover
Great sentiment.
Joe Sushere
Exactly what should be said.
Kenny Olson
Without a doubt.
Joe Sushere
And now, if you're going to criticize a Sheriff Fletcher, we. We need to hear that privately. We don't want the word to get out.
Kenny Olson
Just the irony there that Fletch has done so much to work with the Somali community.
Joe Sushere
Somalis were sitting with him when he made these comments.
Kenny Olson
Right? Yeah. Correct.
Joe Sushere
But this is. We. We have to do this in private now, because putting this on live stream didn't do. Do anything. You know what? Grow up. That's futile. A flag.
Kenny Olson
That's.
Chris Reivers
The instant reaction, is the. The whole Islamophobe racism card anytime anything ever gets questioned.
Joe Sushere
Well, their leader in that regard is certainly Omar. She knows how to play that card better than anybody.
Kenny Olson
Well, you saw the. You saw the list of people that were at that protest, didn't you?
Joe Sushere
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Yeah. It's all the usual suspects.
John Height
Yeah.
Joe Sushere
Little flag update for you, Pillager. Minnesota voted to fly the old Minnesota flag. Okay. Thank you, Pillager. I don't see the crawl running, by the way. I don't know why you always forget everything. I don't think you did.
Matthew Schoonover
I did, too.
Joe Sushere
No, I don't think you did. I don't think you did. Mayor, I was in need of another US Flag, and I was at Fleet Farm in Fargo the other day. Not only were there many options for US Flags, you can buy flags at Fleet Farm. I didn't. Yeah, but also the flags of every branch of the military and some state flags. North Dakota. Of course. He's in North Dakota. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota. It was the true Minnesota flag. He sent a picture. I know my state. North Dakota is not a Minnesota city, but it does deserve to be on the crawl. I haven't seen any flown, and we don't even sell them here. If not, maybe a mention of this fact will suffice, Derek. Okay, I just mentioned it. There's a picture of it. The Minnesota flag is for sale at the Fleet Farm in Fargo.
Kenny Olson
Nice.
Joe Sushere
And I have a Wisconsin guy who is complaining about the smoke, but he doesn't want our smoke in Wisconsin. I'm requesting you keep your blankety blank Minnesota smoke in your own state. I'm in Abbotsford, Wisconsin. Yes. You've been to my town. Going toward Green Bay.
Kenny Olson
Absolutely.
Joe Sushere
Does my anxiety elevate? In the photo below, you will barely see some hazy trees in the distance. They are just under a half mile away. The smoke from your wildfires is getting thicker by the hour. I think I should send a bill to your state for asthma inhalers for my town of 2,000 people. Shouldn't be more than 3 or 400,000 inhalers, I would guess. You must do something about this immediately. He's rich. Very upset. Last year we had a. A day when we appeared at the. What was the racetrack in Wisconsin. We went to Cedar Lake, Cedar Lake Speedway and it was a smoky day like this. But not as bad as this.
Matthew Schoonover
No, this is.
Joe Sushere
There's something particularly wrong with this smoke. It's, it's, it's, it's particularly putrid.
Matthew Schoonover
You can taste, you can, you can feel.
Joe Sushere
It's.
Matthew Schoonover
Normally I don't buy into that, like. Oh, but you can, you can feel it.
Kenny Olson
And, well, you can see the tar in the trees because these are all pine trees.
Joe Sushere
You weren't here when I said earlier. I am officially a full fledged Euphorian who lives in liberal lakes when it comes to this smoke. I can't take it. I hate it. Bothers me. Okay.
Matthew Schoonover
Well, you don't like backyard fires either.
Joe Sushere
I don't. Because of this. This is what you produce for your neighbors.
Matthew Schoonover
I drove to work at 5:15 this morning. And when you were on the river bridge on 494 to go to Terminal 2.
Kenny Olson
Yep. Know that well.
John Height
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Fort Snelling.
Matthew Schoonover
You could not see the other side of the airport.
Joe Sushere
You know why that's because the smoke in the air, it's so smoky. Is it?
Chris Reivers
Can't see the river.
Joe Sushere
Matthew, I'm not done with the flag update.
Kenny Olson
What if such went home, walked in the door and the whole house smelled of popcorn.
Chris Reivers
Microwave.
Joe Sushere
That happened recently and I did not handle it well.
Chris Reivers
Couple of young ones making some popcorn.
Joe Sushere
Yes. And I said this is not allowed on days when windows can't be opened.
Matthew Schoonover
The popcorn free zone. You should get signs like today is.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Yeah.
John Height
Like a chart.
Matthew Schoonover
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
Yeah.
Joe Sushere
I bet.
Matthew Schoonover
Fire. The fire thing that they.
Kenny Olson
I bet those little kids were just quaking in fear. Weren't they just really scared.
Joe Sushere
They giggled. It wasn't a little kid. Oh, well, I bet that big kid
Kenny Olson
was laughing in your face then.
Matthew Schoonover
But you just need to get that sign with the big red arrow like.
Joe Sushere
No, you need a weather ball. You need the popcorn ball.
Kenny Olson
Yes.
Joe Sushere
Yes.
Chris Reivers
So are you trying to tell us I'm not done with the flag in the summer months. You have visitors at your estate this.
Joe Sushere
This summer? We do, yes.
Matthew Schoonover
Just to cool off a little bit, huh?
Joe Sushere
No, man, no. Come on, come on.
Kenny Olson
Let's go to grandpa's. He's fine.
Joe Sushere
Hit of a kid I used to have who has a job in the Twin Cities.
Chris Reivers
Oh, nice.
Joe Sushere
And needed some temporary lodgings.
Matthew Schoonover
Understand how temporary?
Joe Sushere
That's a good question.
Matthew Schoonover
Yeah.
Joe Sushere
The true flag sensitive question.
Kenny Olson
I don't know.
Joe Sushere
I didn't. I said it was a good question. Glad to have you here.
Kenny Olson
Settle in.
Chris Reivers
You need any money?
Joe Sushere
No, that's. That happens. Also
Kenny Olson
the.
Joe Sushere
The true flag is flying, according to Steve. Steve, the true flag is flying at the Veterans memorial in North St. Paul. I think that's fantastic. I think that's fantastic.
Chris Reivers
Where is that?
Joe Sushere
In North St. Paul, right off of 36.
John Height
I. I was just thinking cloud. I'm sorry to change the subject again, Joe, but I was just thinking the old days, which I'm reminiscing about in the building, when my. My little cubicle was right beside the studio door.
Joe Sushere
Oh man.
John Height
Somebody make popcorn. And Joe would walk out, take it. He would yell at the top of his lungs.
Joe Sushere
Who cooked a bleep.
John Height
And bleeping vomit just like that. At the top of his lungs.
Kenny Olson
And then from that office that I was stuck in, you'd hear, hi, Joe, how you doing? Want some popcorn?
Matthew Schoonover
Donnie, love heating up a tuna fish sandwich. Oh, that was always really bad.
Joe Sushere
Only because they come to us all the way from our friends the Lymans in Marleth park in South Africa. It was on this day in Minnesota history.
Chris Reivers
Joe. Today is July 16th.
Joe Sushere
On this day in 1817, while charting the Mississippi river for the US army on the site of present day St. Paul, Mayor Steven Major Stephen H. Long came across a cavern known to local Dakota people as Inyan Tipi. It was called Fountain Cave by the non nation. The cave, located a few blocks west of present day Randolph Avenue near Shepherd Road, had many curious rooms and a cold crystal spring. Lewis Cass and Henry Rowe Schoolcraft visited the cave on August 2, 1820. And Schoolcraft, noting the number of names written on the walls, commented that the cave was a popular site for tourists. They have tourists in 1817?
Matthew Schoonover
Sure.
Joe Sushere
Later, pig's Eye Perront operated a saloon inside the cave. In 1955, the cave was filled during construction of the Archer Daniels Midland elevator and Shepherd Road. I know just where that is.
Matthew Schoonover
Just off of Randolph.
Joe Sushere
That's right. On this day, July 16th in 1858, the state seal was adopted.
Chris Reivers
Adopted.
Joe Sushere
Modifying the Territorial seal. The design included the slogan Les Troiles du Nord.
Matthew Schoonover
Yeah, perfect.
Joe Sushere
Is that how I say it?
Matthew Schoonover
There you go. Frenchman.
Joe Sushere
And depicted a guy plowing in the Indian riding away and blah, blah, blah. And that's all come under attack. On this day, July 16, in 1862, Bishop Henry B. Whipple laid the cornerstone for the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior in Pharisees, the first Episcopalian cathedral built in the United States.
Matthew Schoonover
So Whipple didn't believe that the Pope was infallible at the time.
Joe Sushere
On the following day, Whipple set the cornerstone of the nearby Seabury Divinity School. The cathedral was dedicated on June 24, 1869. Is it still there?
Chris Reivers
I believe so, yes.
Joe Sushere
You have no idea?
Chris Reivers
No. Because it's very near the Rice County. Rice County Fairgrounds. Yes.
Joe Sushere
On this day, July 16th.
Chris Reivers
I'm not joking. It really is.
Joe Sushere
In 1988, during its national tour, the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt made a stop at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. More than one. Also known as the dump. You objected. More than 1,000 volunteers helped to assemble the quilt panels which had been created in the Twin Cities in the months leading up to the event.
Chris Reivers
On this day, Joe, today is July 16th.
Joe Sushere
In 1992, William K. Finney was sworn in as St. Paul's Chief of Police. He was the first African American to hold the position. On this day in sports disappointment history,
Chris Reivers
who'd we lose to on July 16th?
Joe Sushere
Well, on this day in 1974, what's noted is the Twins and Brewers having apparently one hell of a brawl.
Chris Reivers
Oh, I remember of that.
Joe Sushere
I don't think you did. Were you born in 1974?
Chris Reivers
No, but it's baseball. I remember seeing videos of that.
Joe Sushere
Well, they had a brawl.
Chris Reivers
And did they have another one in like the mid-80s, too?
Joe Sushere
I don't know. Sometimes you have these bras. I don't.
Kenny Olson
Were they fighting over a woman?
Matthew Schoonover
Yes.
Joe Sushere
I don't know what it was.
John Height
It's a beaning.
Matthew Schoonover
Morgana came out.
John Height
Ray Corbin beaned Brewers outfielder Bob Coluccio in the helmet. Kudio collapsed, causing both benches to clear.
Joe Sushere
Oh, was it here, John?
John Height
It was at Met Stadium.
Josh Arnold
Yes.
Joe Sushere
Thank you.
Chris Reivers

Josh, a question for you because you and I have had conversations over the years and I've always wondered what would you give advice to, whether it's a first time investor, a long term investor. What are some of the general principles that you try to apply in terms of investing?
Josh Arnold
The easiest answer, Chris Growth will out. Growth will out. Invest for growth. Most people would say, josh, if you buy growth, aren't you paying up growing companies? Well, you might be and then again you might not be because the next question is, well, isn't buying value oriented companies, companies with the lowest price to earnings multiples, the lowest price to sales multiple, isn't that better strategy than going just for growth? Well, the idea is that growth will out. And that has been proven to me and proven to other investors time and time again over long periods of time. Growth will out. Now there are a lot of companies that will say in their infancy or when they're there's just an idea out there that those companies that are involved in the fastest growing industry and there become more and more of them, tend to skyrocket very quickly in value and then it is found over period of time that they're not earning money, that their sales aren't growing, their sales aren't growing, something has stalled out. And these stocks which have been, we'll say, rocket ships, crater and fall to earth and the winners sometimes out of that group are those that have had the staying power and really do have growth, do have an idea, do have products or services, services that are in demand and they start eventually moving ahead. There, of course, are those Companies that are very steady growers that have again products and services that people want, people need at some point. Yes, these companies do have a mature industry or mature in terms of their growth and the growth slow. These companies that then pay out dividends at a higher rate or end up buying back shares, another form of paying investors for them. If I look at an old, and I say an old growth company like Coca Cola, which I have talked about for many years, a very slow old growth company, it doesn't grow grow at 10 or 12 or 20% but it's a very steady mid single digits grower and they do grow their dividend every, every year and they do buy back some shares and they have a product or actually several products that people can't be without. Water for one and say milk, juice, coffee, tea. Coca Cola as an example sells over 200 products in over 200 countries around, around the world. Very, very steady company. Is it going to go to the moon? No. Is it going to provide a level of safety? Oh yes, and it's going to provide a very nice dividend yield that's going to grow over time. I'll say one the of of the best investors long term. Warren Buffett has included Coca Cola in his portfolio Berkshire Hathaway for decades at the price that he originally bought. What it added to the shares yet have gone up. But what has increased even more is the dividend. The dividend that are paid out and the dividends that are paid out relative to his cost basis give Berkshire Hathaway and Warren Buffett a dividend yield we'll say in excess of 15%. But again that's over a long period of time and Coke is just an old stade company. On the other hand, a company that started growing fast, faded, came up with new products, saw the growth accelerate and then would fade, then come back with newer products and now just is I'll say is one of the largest companies in the world and they provide a product and service that people really can't be without. That is Apple. Apple now has 2.4 billion iOS users and at least one and a half billion iPhone users. And if I look most people are going to be replacing their phone every four to five years. And when they replace the phone they're going to need more memory, need more storage and they'll probably get more services from from app is no longer growing at 20 or 25%, growing at a single digit rate. But Apple does buy back shares and does increase their dividend as a product or service that people can count on and generates tremendous amount of cash flow. I'll say so much cash flow and so much cash that that countries in which Apple operates the governments all want a piece of Apple's, Apple's business and they attempt to go after Apple as a monopoly. That said, Apple is a very very steady growth company and even with all the fluctuations and worries that the analysts have over the next iteration of the iPhone, this company could well continue to perform on a very very long long term basis. That's an example. Both Coke and Apple are examples of first faster growing companies and then companies that become steady growers. And those are types of companies that for longer term investors investors you should look look at growth will out. That is I'll say the biggest bit of advice Chris that I could give any any investor the other piece is always keep cash available because inevitably in any given year the market is going to pull back 5 to 10% 3 to 4 times during the course of the the year. And having cash available to add to positions is is beneficial now in putting together any portfolios, you know for myself or my clients and my money is in the exact same spots that my clients money is in. I'll say we go in together and out together on new purchases. My focus always has been companies around the Internet, companies involved in leisure China related businesses without necessarily being in China because that's still faster growing part of the world real assets such as real estate and to keep a portion of money available for short term trading or for opportunities and by we'll say concentrating in the portfolio. Concentrate on focus on portfolios in those areas. I have found better opportunities for growth than in other sectors of the marketplace.

Garage Logic – July 16, 2026 Episode Summary
Podcast: Garage Logic
Host: Joe Soucheray ("The Mayor")
Date: July 16, 2026
Theme: "The mayor declares himself a Euphorian based on smoky air"
Episode Overview
On a scorching 102-degree day marked by poor air quality from regional wildfires, Joe Soucheray and the Garage Logic crew offer a mix of local color, gripes about state bureaucracy, commentary on cultural and political events, and spirited banter. The show covers the impact of wildfire smoke, the failures of Minnesota's state agencies and government programs, controversial developments at the University of Minnesota, and musings on topics from bikes and flags to hormones and stamp collections. Throughout, the hosts let their personalities drive the conversation with humor, sarcasm, and unfiltered opinions.
"This has nothing to do with climate change. It has to do with smoke... This is real. I can see it, I can smell it, I can touch it..." (06:48)
"These state gigs are really hell... you can just screw up, accomplish nothing... and then you go collect your gargantuan state pension..." (10:44)
"Look at yourself in the mirror every once in a while and think how much money you allowed this state to steal." (11:07)
"What evidence do you have in your life that compels you to trust these people? They have failed time after time..." (20:08)
Joe: "I just think it’s an outrage, and there’s not much I can do about it." (35:41)
"But the continuous false accusations of racism... will do nothing to address the issues. And if the Somali community maintains this stance... things will only get worse." (75:54, quoting a listener email)
The hosts’ signature style abounds: salty, iconoclastic, and skeptical of government, “Euphorian” elites, and cultural trends, peppered with gallows humor and local color. The tone is irreverent but often earnest, with plenty of tangents and in-jokes for long-time listeners.
Summary Usefulness:
This recap guides those who missed the episode through all key discussions: smoke anxiety, state and local scandals, cultural controversies, and the usual Garage Logic blend of societal observations, complaints, and jokes—preserving the show’s opinionated and conversational flavor.
