Joe
The $100,000 putt is presented by MSP.
Pat
Plumbing Heating Air, committed to your comfort since 1918.
Reavers
All in all, I was glad that Seattle won.
Pat
I was happy with Seattle won. But here's my fear, a big fear. With Seattle having won in such boring fashion. The NFL is not going to take that. They're going to make you stop playing defense. They're going to make. We're going to the. The age of incredible numbers of pass interference penalties being called will return. You know, they phased that out. They cut back on that. They started taking officiating crews that didn't call as many foul, didn't call as many penalties. You think when the, you think the NFL is talking about the reviews of that game today in the office and saying, okay, we gotta get back to not letting them. We want pass completions.
Reavers
Well, how are you gonna tone down.
Pat
The defense by calling pass interference whenever you're contacting them? They can. They can.
Reavers
No, you mean not calling it?
Pat
Not now. They're not calling it very often. What I'm saying is they're gonna jack up how often they call it to get, get passing back into the game. I'm confused, okay.
Reavers
If they're throwing the ball a lot, they don't. You're telling me they're not going to call past interference?
Pat
No, it's that they aren't calling. They aren't throwing as many flags for past interference in the last few post seasons because people got sick of those. But when you get a boring super bowl like that where Drake may can't complete any passes because the Seattle guys are in the face of his defender, of his receivers, they're going to start calling more now. I get more hands on the receivers. Am I right? Reavers, don't you suspect?
Joe
Yeah. The lack of offense, I think is very troubling to the NFL.
Pat
I do agree with that because they did what, five years ago, 10 years ago, they started calling pass interference all the time and the quarterback numbers went through the roof. But the athletes are so damn good now and both offensively and defensively. But if you let these modern defensive backs joust with the receivers, right. I can't get the ball to them, you know, and they made Drake may look like, you know, he looked like J.J. mcCarthy.
Joe
Yes, he did look like.
Pat
He looked terrible. And. But every time they blitzed, they got home. Yeah. What.
Joe
You know what I.
Pat
Did the Patriots make it to the super bowl with that terrible offensive line?
Joe
Well, someone had put this out there, and I wish I could give them credit, but the. The. The number of teams that the Patriots played to get to the super bowl bad. Oh, well, look at who they beat.
Pat
Buffalo. And they.
Joe
They barely beat Denver a week ago with a backup quarterback.
Pat
Seven. With the. Yeah, with the non Quarterback.
Joe
Yeah.
Pat
So, yeah, it was. They were not a. They will someday maybe be a powerhouse again, but they. They were.
Reavers
It. It was a first half that bored the hell out of people.
Pat
Oh, God. Yes.
Joe
Well, Seattle, New England had been shut out for the first three quarters. They didn't score a point till the fourth quarter.
Pat
Yeah. Yeah, that was.
Joe
You know who also didn't have a maid.
Pat
Damn near got killed. Yes, he did, because they. Every time they came on a blitz, they hit him.
Joe
Do you know who also didn't have a good day yesterday? Our guy, Stefan Diggs.
Pat
Did he catch any.
Joe
I don't give a damn what the happened on the field. Did you see what happened off the field?
Reavers
No.
Pat
Yeah.
Reavers
Which woman sued him?
Joe
Well, Joe, funny you should ask.
Pat
Wanted to fight somebody, right?
Joe
Well, he. Cardi B. She is an R and B superstar.
Pat
Yes, Right.
Joe
Just delivered.
Reavers
She's the one that sang that. What deal. Oh, that's terrible. Yeah.
Joe
Well, she had just delivered Stephan's fourth child.
Pat
I'll be damned.
Joe
I believe that was the first she had with him, but Stephan had three others with three other ladies.
Pat
Any of them have two, or are they all single?
Joe
That I don't know, Pat. But I'm going to guess that they're all individual encounters. Well, she had spent $150,000 on a post Super Bowl a party for the. For the. For the couple. For the happy couple.
Reavers
Was he supposed to attend it?
Joe
He was. However, they both unfollowed each other on Instagram after the game because Stefan was with another gal.
Pat
Oh, really?
Joe
That was sitting in better seats than Cardi B had. And she spotted them.
Pat
He was gonna go to Cardi B's post Super bowl party with a different buxom gal.
Joe
I'm gonna guess that she may have had instructions to head back to the hotel. And I'm gonna go to this party and then I'll meet up with you later.
Reavers
Isn't car have the baby yesterday?
Joe
A couple weeks ago?
Pat
No, a couple weeks Is Cardi's buxom, right?
Joe
Yes, she is.
Pat
She is. Are most of his. Your girlfriends buxom?
Joe
I would venture to guess.
Reavers
Yeah, that's gonna bankrupt him. Yeah, he's got to write checks.
Pat
He'll be, you know, he's making a lot of money. He'll be out of money.
Reavers
He's not gonna have a nickel.
Pat
He'll be one. In the next episode of Broke, Broke. Him and Adrian now. Yeah, there'll be. Yeah, Adrian will be the star of that. And he'll be.
Reavers
Stefan do dumb things like rent llamas for his birthday and stuff like that.
Pat
I don't know. He gets rid of his. Somehow he got rid of. He gets rid of his money pretty easy. But you know what? Adrian. Is there anybody stupider than Adrian? No, because he's back here. They're honoring him at us.
Joe
Oh, yeah?
Pat
What celebration?
Joe
Was it a ring of honor? Was it a ring of honor?
Pat
No, it was just last year. What year is this? Some Viking year. We were honoring the 2015. We had them all bring it. We didn't know 20, 25.
Joe
No, I met. Was it the 2015 division champion team?
Pat
Maybe. I don't know what it was.
Joe
Rushing title.
Reavers
But he showed up for it.
Pat
But here he shows up for it, but at 3 o' clock in the morning. He's driving over the legal limit. But just in case nobody wants to catch him, he's driving a hundred. Yeah, that don't drive 100.
Joe
Right.
Pat
I could tell you as a guy who might have back in the day been over the legal limit. Don't drive a hundred.
Reavers
Well, plus they have rides for them, right? Yeah, they got a. They got a system. You're not supposed to get in a car. We'll take care of it.
Pat
Yes. Yes.
Reavers
And the moron rented a car.
Pat
Yeah, he somehow he got in a car and he was driving a hundred on 494. Oh, what a dummy. Man alive.
Joe
Were you saying that? Suggesting that maybe he was seeking companionship?
Pat
I think he. He had some companionship in the car, didn't he?
Joe
Oh, so he was heading to the destination.
Pat
I think he.
Joe
And he was in a bleep.
Pat
He was in a hurry. I think he had two companions in the back of the car. I'm not sure if that was official.
Reavers
He had a full load in the car.
Pat
Yes, he did.
Joe
I'll say.
Reavers
Well, that's a shame. That's a shame. Our athletes, football, they're hardly. They're hardly role models, are they, Pat?
Pat
Yes, they're not. Yeah, he is. In the hall of. Is he in the hall of Fame?
Joe
No, he's. In fact, he is up this next year.
Pat
Well, if you don't let Bel check in because he cheated, you know. Are you gonna let Adrian in with his difficulty?
Joe
I had heard, I was listening to something over the weekend, that Frank Gore is also up again next year because Roger Craig got in this year, so they made Gore wait a year.
John Randall
Gore?
Pat
Frank Gore, Great running back.
Joe
Oh, third all time, I think.
Pat
And Frank Gore.
Reavers
How come I never heard of him? Are you kidding me? Did he play in the 40s?
Pat
No.
Reavers
How could I not know this?
Joe
He played forever. I think he's third all time in rushing yards.
Reavers
Who did he play for?
Joe
49Ers. He played for Frank Gore. He played for a bunch of teams.
Pat
Are they in Buffalo?
Joe
Buffalo. For a couple years.
Reavers
How could I not know this?
Joe
Hold on, I'm going to look up.
Reavers
I usually know the names of people.
Joe
Frank Gore stats.
Pat
Well, that's why you skipped him on your fantasy football team.
Reavers
I guess I did, Joe.
Joe
He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2005 until 2015. Then he played for the Colts, Miami, Buffalo and the Jets.
Pat
How many yards we end up with?
Joe
16,000 on the nuts.
Pat
Really?
Reavers
I can't place them.
Pat
Yeah, well, he was.
Joe
In fact, he has a kid, I think, that had a decent little Frank Gore.
Pat
Little Junior.
Joe
There's our title. Who the hell is Frank Gore?
Pat
Speaking of Gore, how about Terrence Gore?
Joe
Oh, man.
Pat
Coming in for minor surgery. 30, former baseball player, 33 years old, dead.
Reavers
Yep.
Pat
Some minor surgery that went. Went. Went horribly bad.
Reavers
So that's when the doctor came out. He couldn't say it went well.
Joe
No, it was not successful.
Reavers
If we heard about Lindsay surgery, did that go well?
Pat
My dad said today. Talked to AP today and said, I hope she's finished. That's a bad sport. That's an insane sport to be participating in with a torn acl. It's not a good idea, Pat.
Reavers
That's insanity. That downhill is getting crazier.
Pat
Oh, God.
Reavers
They might as well ski down the side of the Sears Tower.
Pat
It's so much different than.
Reavers
TV can't show it to you.
Pat
It's so much different than it was in Salt Lake City. And when I. When I've covered it in Salt Lake City, we. They let us go up the mountain about two thirds of the way. 3, 4. And so we're standing there and we're. They're on a hill above us. The jump. Right. It's where they jump. And these People were coming over that jump and going 100ft down the way, going 100 miles an hour. I'm surprised anyone ever lives because you. I remember riding the bus up either in Lillehammer or Salt Lake, and they had lights going all the way up, and you see where they're starting from. They're two miles up, they're two miles up in the air.
Reavers
I discovered watching the downhill, that I really enjoy sports that can't be interrupted by officiating.
Pat
Oh, God, yeah.
Reavers
Is that neat?
Pat
Yes.
Reavers
Can you imagine halfway down the hill, a ref saying, hold it, hold it. You nick that flag, you got to stop, and then they gotta start over again? No, I love it. I love when there's no fishy.
Pat
But you got your slaloms and you got your other ones and they're kind of, you know, they're. They're restrained a little. But the downhill is. You just throw yourself off the hill and hope you survive.
Reavers
That's it. And somebody named Breezy did.
Pat
Breezy.
Reavers
Josh.
Pat
Breezy did. But Breezy on that same hill, it had several.
Reavers
Yeah.
Pat
Terrible crashes. It's.
Reavers
It was on ice.
Pat
Yes.
Reavers
It's not even snow.
Pat
No, no, no. It's. It's incredible.
Reavers
Yeah, they are gutsy people.
Pat
When is the men's downhill? Next Sunday. Must be next Sunday. I think it's usually on a Sunday.
Reavers
So who's the big shot in men's skiing these days?
Pat
I don't know who it is. I'm not. I'm not sure.
Reavers
But who's the American besides Breezy? The. The good looking American woman skier? You know the name Reavers?
Pat
Who is it?
Joe
I'm looking it up right now.
Pat
Oh, what the hell. She's. She's active right now.
Reavers
Yeah, she's there.
Pat
I'm not really. Had any hit that you would end up there. I didn't. I didn't do my.
Reavers
Does the Tribune have people at the Olympics?
Pat
No.
Joe
Franz Klommer is the.
Pat
No, not Franz.
Reavers
Franz Klammer.
Pat
100 years ago, 1972.
Joe
What did you ask me?
Pat
Who's the.
Reavers
Kurt, Michaela somebody.
Pat
Oh, Schiffler. Yeah. Schiff. Schiff.
Reavers
Did she do anything yesterday?
Pat
I don't think she's in the downhill, is she? No, I don't. Maybe she. I don't think so. Pathrin. Yes, that's.
Reavers
What'd you think of Bad Bunny Pat? I'm gonna.
Pat
I gotta tell you, Joe.
Joe
Here we go.
Pat
When I watched the Super Bowl.
Reavers
Yep.
Pat
I turned to the Super bowl at 5:34.
Reavers
I did too, because we had a golf playoff.
Pat
530. So 534. And then at halftime, because it was bad money. Generally, I watch none of it, but I watched four or five minutes. But I remember my Spanish isn't real good.
Reavers
No.
Pat
So I just decided. But, you know, he's an active fella, I think, you know. I don't know.
Reavers
Did you watch the golf playoff?
Pat
No. But what happened to Hideki?
Reavers
I can tell you exactly what happened.
Pat
He choked out.
Reavers
No. He let the crowd get to him.
Pat
Really.
Reavers
The drunks got to him.
Pat
Really.
Reavers
Twice. He was almost ready to hit the ball and backed off. Stopped himself the way Tiger could stop himself. And then on one occasion he hit it in the water, and another occasion he hit it in the beach.
Pat
So do they use that crazy hole as one of the playoff holes?
Reavers
They. 18 was the playoff hole.
Pat
Okay.
Reavers
But he. He was rattled.
Pat
Crowd was leaving and they were still making.
Reavers
Oh, the drunks were still there. And that's what golf wants. Fine. But some players got a root, I guess.
Pat
He's won twice already this year.
Reavers
He didn't care.
Pat
Yeah. Yeah. He's won twice already this year. He never heard of him until three weeks ago when he won well on 16.
Reavers
Playing 179 yards yesterday. Got a roof, hit a wedge.
Pat
Oh, yeah.
Reavers
A wedge.
Pat
Yes.
Reavers
The hell with this game. Yes. What are they playing?
Pat
He won in Hawaii, right? Yes. So what did Scotty do? Did Scotty make the cut? He was almost not gonna make the cut. Right.
Reavers
Damn near won it.
Pat
Oh, really?
Reavers
Lost by two strokes.
Pat
Really came back, huh?
Reavers
Oh, God. He was in it till.
Pat
It's.
Reavers
Till the very end.
Pat
It's incredible.
Reavers
He's not human.
Pat
No. No. Is he better? Is it time to say, is he better than Tiger woods was?
Reavers
No, I don't think you can at this point.
Pat
Tiger won 40% of the time there for a long period.
Joe
I have your names of the men's downhill skiers.
Reavers
I want to see if I've heard. If I haven't heard of Frank Gore, there's not a shot I got for this.
Joe
Franjo von Altman.
Reavers
No.
Joe
From Switzerland. He's your top on the leaderboard favorite.
Pat
Well, when do they ski?
Joe
Well, they did. Their first event was Saturday.
Pat
What was it?
Joe
Saturday featured the. The first middle event of these Olympics. Yeah. Men's downhill competition.
Pat
We've already had it.
Reavers
Yeah.
Pat
So some Swiss guys.
Joe
Fran Ho. Von Allman.
Pat
How did he get. Becoming a Switzer? He's a. He's the son of somebody who was.
Joe
Switzerland had three of the top.
Pat
Patrick.
Joe
Italy had two and three Giovani Franzoni.
Reavers
Nope.
Joe
And Dominic Pari.
Reavers
Nope.
Joe
Then you have Marco Aldermat of Switzerland and Alexis Monet.
Reavers
Well, give me some US guys.
Joe
Your top US finisher was in 10th place, Kyle Nigir. N E G O M I R.
Pat
He moved here, too.
Reavers
Yeah.
Joe
And then 18th you have Ryan Cochran.
Pat
What has happened to US men skiing?
Joe
And then Sam Morse was in 19th place for the United States.
Reavers
Never heard of these guys.
Joe
So we stinks. We stinks.
Reavers
And don't go by me. I haven't heard of Frank Gore.
Joe
That's right.
Reavers
I can't believe I don't know that name.
Pat
Yeah, I was.
Reavers
Jeez, you know what?
Joe
He was the capable Frank Gore.
Reavers
Yeah, I can. I can believe that. When do we start men's hockey over in Cortina?
Pat
We gotta get the gals done first, don't we? I don't know. Or do they? Pretty. The women are still. The women must have played today. I think they've been playing every other day.
Reavers
We got a men's figure skater who can do the quad. A US guy.
Pat
Oh, okay.
Joe
Feb, 11, Joe.
Reavers
That's Wednesday.
Joe
That's. Wednesday is when we kick things off for the men's tournament.
Pat
The women won't be done by then, but I think we are three and. Oh, aren't we? We're now the favorites over Canada and the women's. Or considered the favorites.
Joe
We're up one nothing right now over Switzerland. The women are how far? And it just says live. It just says live. I'm not sure.
Pat
All right. Abby got a goal the other day in the second. In their second game. So. Abby Murphy, don't we have about four.
Joe
Frost players on the.
Pat
Oh, yeah, we got the Frosties. Taylor Heisey, A couple other Frosties are there, too. Okay, but then we. The Gopher team, I think, has four players, but three of them are from other places, other countries. Not us. Murphy's the only one on the U.S. team.
Reavers
But the Gophers women's team is still playing.
Pat
Yes. So is the Wisconsin team minus their Olympians. The Wisconsin team minus five Olympians. The Ohio State team minus several Olympians.
Reavers
Is the men strictly NHL players?
Pat
Yes.
Reavers
Could you try out?
Pat
I think they. I don't. I don't have to try out. They. Garen invited who he wanted to, but they had. They had six players of the. That were already on the team, and our guy Quinn was one of them, I believe, even before the trade was made.
Reavers
So. Well, he's.
Pat
I think we're.
Reavers
He's worthy.
Pat
We got him we got 23 days off from February 3rd to the 26th. Is that right? That's. I don't know. I don't approve. And that push, you know, when they come back, they're gonna be playing four times a week, aren't they?
Reavers
Yeah, but that can work both ways, too. If the Commie just goes to Tahiti for a month.
Pat
Oh, God, it's gonna be great.
Reavers
No, it could work two ways. Either he'll be really great or not. Have a clue.
Pat
And full of margaritas. Y. Yeah, one of the two. So. Yeah. Anyway, he went back home, I think, though.
Reavers
Why in God's name, I don't know. Would you go to Russia in the.
Pat
Winter when you're in the middle of a war?
Reavers
Right, right.
Joe
If it was Stefan Diggs, he could knock up, like, four more gals in that time.
Pat
Yeah, we need another one of those.
Reavers
Did he play in Miami? Who? Stefan?
Joe
Nope. He went to. He went from here to Buffalo. No, no, no, no.
Reavers
In college.
Joe
No, he's a Maryland guy. He's a terrible Maryland.
Reavers
Really?
Joe
Which, by the way, how about the noble effort out of our Fighting Gophers yesterday? You beat Michigan State.
Pat
Yes, but every game they play is like a nail biter because they're not good enough to bury anybody. But they play enough defense. And Michigan State played terrible and they won. But Maryland's now 2 and 10 in the league. That was a bad loss. Yes, it was.
Joe
Yes, it was.
Pat
This was packed. The Pack, the Barn night, too, on Super Bowl Sunday. I would say it failed miserably because the students weren't there. They got some. The students didn't show up, Pat.
Joe
It was Super Bowl Sunday.
Pat
Yeah.
Joe
No one's going to the Gopher basketball game on Super Bowl Sunday.
Pat
Are you saying the Marketeers might have screwed that up?
Joe
But play a game like that, play it on Saturday. You would. Had a packed house, don't you think?
Pat
Well, maybe not packed, but you'd have. You'd have a few, that's for sure.
Reavers
Well, the game didn't keep people away. The super bowl didn't keep people away from the Gopher game. No, because the Gopher game started at one.
Pat
Didn't. Yeah, but, Joe, a lot of people start. A lot of people gathering at late brunch and they start drinking, you know. I, however, watched it with Mrs. Ricey. That was just us, just home alone. I said, you want to watch the Super Bowl? And she said, no, and that was it. So I was downstairs stretched out on the couch and flipping channels.
Reavers
Well, you had to rest Your knee.
Pat
During the break and once in a while went up and I said she wanted to watch halftime. Then she watched four minutes, and she said, they're saying Spanish. They're singing in Spanish. And that was it. She was not into it, but she did. Afterwards. We found a very interesting documentary, and I was out there, but I didn't know this part. No, it's called meddling. It's 2002, Salt Lake City, when they fix the figure skating judging in the ice pairs. And so the Canadians outskated the Russians, but they gave it to the Russians because the French. Because the French judge was tied in, was basically instructed by the leader of the French Skating association to vote for the Russians, because then the Russians were going to vote for them in ice dance or something. So it was. You know, it's always. It's always been. But it's. But the trouble is that they made it four parts. I already watched the last part and a half, but the.
Reavers
The. I'm not going to watch that one.
Pat
But the. The Canadian guy is a. Is a character, man. He's funnier now. And. And he. He's got a wife and kids and all that good stuff. And. But he's, you know, a good athletic guy, but he's. He's pretty funny talking about it. His partner, who he was married to for a while and that didn't work out, is much more upset about it than he was that they gave them the silver. And then later it became such a scandal that they had a ceremony where both the Russians and the Canadians got gold medals.
Reavers
Did you see the Netflix documentary on the 1980 Olympic hockey team? There's a new one. I can't imagine what. What more we can say.
Pat
I know there's a new one, but.
Reavers
It'S come highly recommended to me.
Pat
I said, I'm not watching a hundred minutes when I know how it turns out. Well, I don't think they changed the ending.
Reavers
No. They still win, right?
Pat
They say it's good.
Reavers
I'm gonna watch it. It's come highly recommended.
Pat
Everybody says they do. But that also is probably people who don't know the story as well as you do, having been there. And I do, having talked to these guys for 30 years.
Joe
In your eyes, Pat, they should have just called it Hot Goalie.
Pat
Hot Goalie, that's right.
Joe
Name of the documentary.
Pat
Yes. God, was. I had Jackass back then.
Reavers
You gave me ceaseless grief about it. Ceaseless grief.
Pat
Hey, Joe, what's the lead gonna be on this one? Every American dream and hope has Come true. But you know, that. That was probably your zenith as a sports column. I mean, people wanted to have parades for you. They loved your stuff so much. And I was saying, you know, just think how emotional it was when they sang Luckenbach, Texas, when they were all wearing their cowboy hats. You know, everybody was wearing cowboy hats. You know what your problem was?
Reavers
You wanted to be there.
Pat
There, maybe. Yeah, we. Because St. Paul, we only had the Warner was it put up a good.
Reavers
Fight against the Wanger, against the world. 18 people we had there for the Minneapolis business.
Pat
I don't know. We might have sent a cameraman. I'm not sure if we might have sent a shooter. I'm not sure. I can't remember. But the good thing for the poor old Wagner is he also had to write for the afternoon paper. He rode for both cycles back then at St. Paul, you know.
Reavers
But you, later in your life, you were in that building. Remember?
Pat
You went.
Reavers
You were at Lake Placid for something. Just for the hell of it or.
Pat
No, what was the event? I don't know, but I was there. And what was it? Can't remember.
Joe
What year do you think?
Reavers
19.
Pat
Well, it was trials or something. I don't know why I was there.
Joe
Was it. It wasn't Harding Kerrigan, that deal, was it?
Pat
No, that was in. That was in Lillehammer.
Joe
Oh, that's right. Okay.
Pat
Okay. God, was that fun. When those two were practicing together that day in this little smaller rink. There were 300 reporters jammed into there to see if they punched each other. They had a. They were so stupid. They. The rules of the Skating Federation where the US had to practice together. Okay. One of them had the other one hit with a iron rod, so maybe we can have them practice separately. What do you think? You think we can wave the rules here for five minutes? They're skating next to each other. Nancy, every time she walks by, skis by her, Nancy wants to hit her with a brick. You know that they hated each other and, well, for good reason.
Reavers
And, yeah, she was attacked.
Pat
You've watched I. Tanya, right?
Reavers
I haven't. You've mentioned it. I've not seen it.
Pat
God, Alison Janie as Mom. One of the great performances in history. Have you ever. You watch it Re.
Joe
Oh, yeah.
Pat
Allison Janie with the cigarettes. And later on in life, she's got the. The air, you know, she's got oxygen. She can't breathe anymore. She's still. I mean, Alice and JD Was so good because this. I mean, Tanya is a fantastic story.
Reavers
Yeah.
Pat
She came out of this Too bad she had her buddies hit Nancy with a. With a pipe. A pipe. Because that kind of ruined her image.
Reavers
It did.
Pat
It did. Otherwise she's this blue collar kid from no upbringing with no. You know, she was over here is when she became the first one to land the women triple axel or whatever the hell it was. It was when the championships were at Target Center. Oh, yeah, yeah. And she was, you know, she was this kid. But then apparently the skating crew, though, the people who covered skating, like Christine Brennan and people like that, suspected her upbringing because allegedly, when the pipe incident happened in Detroit, somebody came into the room where all the reporters, Jay Weiner and all these people were or typing, and somebody said, nancy just got hit with a pipe by somebody out there at the rink. And everybody in the room said, Tanya. They suspected Tanya because Tanya didn't have the figure skating upbringing.
Reavers
No.
Pat
She was, you know, low, low income. And not.
Reavers
Her mom wasn't her coach.
Joe
No.
Pat
But her mom was the driving force, the encouragement.
Joe
Yes, I have your list. After the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, they also hosted the 1991 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships and the 2000 Winter Goodwill Games.
Pat
I think I was at the Winter Goodwill Games. I might have been. We were. For some godly reason, I didn't cover that. For some ungodly reason, we were covering the Goodwill Games.
Reavers
No.
Pat
Why?
Reavers
Wait a minute. You still would have been at the St. Paul paper.
Pat
No, not 2000.
Joe
2000.
Reavers
Oh, 2000.
Joe
Yeah.
Reavers
No. Okay.
Pat
No, but I covered the Goodwill Games in Seattle, when they were in Seattle because they were going to bring the Olympics together in 98 or 90. It was an off year. It was. Ted Turner was doing the thing and Jane was there walking around. Jane was still good looking gal back then, and she was walking around with Ted all the time making appearances. But it was a week when you were spending there saying, why the hell am I here? You know, nobody cares. There was a couple of. I think. I think Tony Kuchak's. I think Lithuania won the gold medal in basketball. That was about the only interesting thing there. But yeah, we spent a week there at the Goodwill Games. What the hell?
Reavers
So the Timberwolves did not go after Giannis.
Joe
Well, they went after him. They just weren't able to attain it.
Reavers
I'm glad they did.
Pat
They went after him. But I'm worried about Finchy. Yeah, I don't think Finchy.
Reavers
If they.
Pat
If they stink again tonight. And then they got a game Wednesday and then the All Star break. I don't know if Finchy is going to make it, really, because these new owners are, you know, they got Mike and Nori kind of waiting there to replace him. And they go Bear shooting off his mouth Friday night and Friday night and then having a.
Reavers
What'd he say?
Pat
Effort basically, without mentioning their name, said Julius Randall and Anthony Edwards aren't playing any defense, which took a lot of guts from Rudy because Zion Williamson laid it in and went to the basket and laid it in every time he wanted to when New Orleans won. And. But Rudy's. Rudy's kind of a seven foot one airhead. And so you were wondering if they're going to come out fired up Monday or not. No, they were awful. They were awful yesterday. And you know what? I brought back in 1969 and I mentioned this many times, the Minnesota Pipers were playing out at Met center, drawing a good 800 every game, you know, maybe a thousand once in a while. But they had Connie Hawkins, Artie Heyman from Duke, who was like a goofy white guy, and they had several other. Chico Vaughn and they had big personalities. And that was when the coach. You were writing in. No. Yeah, you know, you weren't writing.
Reavers
No, not in 69.
Pat
69. James. Jim Harding. They, the Pittsburgh, whatever they were, won the first ABA title, but nobody came to the games. The Minnesota Muskies moved to Florida after a terrible year here. So the Pipers moved here to Met center for some reason as the champions and still didn't draw any people. But the coach, Jim Harding, was a hard nosed, crazy coach and he had a goofy team. And on the night before the All Star Game, wherever it was played, Harding got in a dispute with the owner, Gabe Rubin, and punched him, which punch decked him. So that cost him his job. Right. Now that'll do it when you punch the owner. And so they brought in Gus Young, who was a great promoter and successful coach at Gustavus earlier, was their promotions director. And since they had no money and didn't care about anything, they made Gus the coach.
Joe
There you go.
Pat
After Harding punched the owner. And Gus was apparently a great guy. I didn't really know him, but John Rowe and Bob Fowler and all these guys, John still tells the story that they. They have a horrible performance at home and they start heading for the. They're covering the team and they start heading for the locker room at Met center. And Gus stands in front of the door, spreads out his arms and said, you can't go in there. There's dissension in there. And I've said we shouldn't that's what Fitchy should have done on Monday. After that, on Sunday after that performance.
Reavers
They're home tonight, aren't they?
Pat
Yeah, they're home tonight. So it'll be. It'll be a big test. Who they playing? Another bad team.
Reavers
I can tell you. I got the sports.
Joe
You got it right there.
Pat
And I think that we will tell you what. We can't tell you what happened last night, but we can tell you what's coming up. Right? Yeah.
Reavers
Last night is. You get that tomorrow tonight they host the Atlantas.
Pat
Atlantas. Atlanta will beat them if they play like they've been playing. Atlanta's not great. They just traded Trae Young, who's nuts.
Reavers
And they had the Portlands on Wednesday.
Joe
So did you happen to see speak of. Because Atlanta traded Trae Young to Washington. Also traded to Washington is Anthony Davis, who Charles Barkley refers to as street.
Pat
Close and also that. That leader of the backcourt, d' Angelo Russell.
Joe
That's right. Thank you.
Pat
Another guy who really gives it his all. So, Anthony, twice a year, Joe, Anthony.
Joe
Davis gets traded to the Washington Wizards, who are basically have been out of contention since the late 90s.
Reavers
Right.
Joe
And he gets there. And Anthony Davis says, we had a really good talk with ownership and management about my role for, you know, going forward. And he said, I'm sitting out the rest of the year.
Pat
That's his role.
Joe
That's his role. We're going to be as rotten as possible to get a great pick.
Pat
So he's not really fully healthy yet, but they've decided he's not going to be fully healthy.
Joe
Why don't you sit this play out, son, and we'll try her again next year.
Pat
Well, I'm sure he'll be eating a lot of fine food.
Reavers
Yep.
Pat
Because my niece's husband is the chef.
Joe
That's right.
Reavers
And the Caps, right?
Pat
No, not the Caps, but the. The women's team and the G League team. Okay, but.
Reavers
So they're eating well.
Pat
But. Well, the. The Wizards eat well. The women's team eats pretty well.
Reavers
Yeah.
Pat
The G League team gets whatever's left. Sandwich. They get sandwiches.
Joe
They get the leftovers.
Pat
Yes. But I didn't realize that Anthony had announced he's not playing well.
Joe
They. They came up with a plan is what.
Pat
Wow.
Joe
So he's making a cool 50 something mil and he's just gonna collar a day.
Pat
God, that league is so screwed up, it's unbelievable. So anyway, the hockey fellas, they're making more money than they used to, but you still got to give Them, the effort, the N. You know, it depends on what you want to do. The end the NBA. Just unbelievable.
Reavers
So, anyway, all right.
Pat
Good weekend for the local women, the basketball team, that Gopher basketball team one, they're going to the tournament. But Jordan Childs, the. Did you see this? She's the Olympic. What? She's Jordan Child. She won. She's an Olympic gymnast. Very famous. UCLA was here with her. She's here. She's 24. Because she's been at two Olympics or something. So she's been at it. But they had over 5,000 show up at marriage at the Pavilion to watch the gymnastics meet Saturday. And Jordan gave all. They had, like 2,000 young girls there that were just nuts. And you. You look at the video of Jordan going over and talking to him and taking pictures with them, and they're insane. These young girls are going insane. So she's.
Joe
She had a perfect 10 for UCLA over the Gophers.
Pat
Yes, they. They give those away. They used to, you know, used to have stricter. Way back, I think it was.
Reavers
Chans were unheard of.
Pat
Yes. But anyway, she was. Apparently they had a great, great Saturday there. And everybody at 4 o' clock in the afternoon. Meanwhile, bad loss for Nico and the fellas.
Reavers
So anyway, yeah, I saw him interviewed. He's very effervescent.
Pat
Nice guy. He is a good guy and he can coach, but, you know, just.
Joe
We need more than about six guys to play.
Pat
It's 60, 60 and the refs. Okay, Tyson, first he travels and then he doesn't get fouled. And they give him two free throws and he makes them both. 62, 60, 53 seconds to go. You say they're gonna squeak out another one. They end up giving seven straight points. Yeah. Anyway.
Reavers
Oh, well, that's it.
Pat
All right. See you next week.
Joe
Sell us a car before you go.
Pat
I would love to do that.
Joe

Garage Logic – Episode Summary
Podcast: Garage Logic (Gamut Podcast Network)
Episode: MNST: Bad Bunny, Sam Darnold wins the Super Bowl, and Lindsey Vonn gets hurt again in the Olympics
Aired: February 10, 2026
Host: Joe Soucheray (“The Mayor”)
Cast: Pat, Reavers, John Randall
This episode of Garage Logic delivers the signature blend of Minnesota-centric sports banter, common-sense commentary, and playful ribbing that defines the “seat of Gumption County.” The hosts break down the Super Bowl—lamenting its lack of excitement and the implications for NFL rules—while veering through stories touching on star athletes’ off-field drama, the insanity and thrill of winter sports (especially Olympics skiing), the declining state of US men's sports programs, and the cultural oddities surrounding celebrity performances like Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Discussion begins at [00:40]
Boring Super Bowl Complaints:
Both Pat and Reavers found Seattle’s Super Bowl win “boring,” due to a lack of offense and high-intensity defense that shut down passing games. This prompts concern that the NFL will respond by cracking down on defenses with more pass interference penalties to boost offensive stats.
“With Seattle having won in such boring fashion…the NFL is not going to take that. They’re going to make you stop playing defense. They’re going to make…We want pass completions.” – Pat [00:44]
Officiating Trends:
Pat predicts a return to higher frequency of pass interference calls:
“...when you get a boring super bowl like that...they’re going to start calling more now. I get more hands on the receivers. Am I right?” – Pat [02:03]
Concern for Quarterbacks:
Seattle’s defense made Drake Maye look terrible, as he was constantly blitzed and unable to complete passes.
“They made Drake Maye look like, you know, he looked like J.J. McCarthy.” – Pat [03:15]
Discussion starts at [04:17]
Stefan Diggs & Cardi B:
Joe recounts how R&B star Cardi B (with Diggs’ child) spent big on a post-Super Bowl party, only to unfollow Diggs after catching him with a different woman at the game.
“They both unfollowed each other on Instagram after the game because Stefan was with another gal…that was sitting in better seats than Cardi B had. And she spotted them.” – Joe [05:13–05:21]
Financial Recklessness:
Pat jokes Diggs will go broke with his spending and relationships, linking him with Adrian Peterson’s “broke” episode.
“He's not gonna have a nickel…He’ll be on the next episode of Broke, Broke. Him and Adrian now.” – Reavers/Pat [05:58–05:59]
Adrian Peterson’s Antics:
Pat critiques Peterson’s history, like driving over the limit with companions in the car:
“...at 3 o'clock in the morning. He's driving over the legal limit. But just in case nobody wants to catch him, he's driving a hundred. Yeah, that don't drive 100.” – Pat [06:53–07:09]
“As a guy who might have back in the day been over the legal limit. Don't drive a hundred.” – Pat [07:10]
Discussion at [08:08–09:33]
“Who the hell is Frank Gore?” – Joe, with laughter [09:30]
[09:33–09:53]
Major segment from [09:55–16:48]
Lindsey Vonn’s Injury:
Another injury for a star in a “crazy sport.”
“That's a bad sport. That's an insane sport to be participating in with a torn ACL.” – Pat [10:09]
The Insanity of Olympic Downhill:
Pat and Reavers marvel at the speed and danger, recalling huge jumps and perilous courses.
“You just throw yourself off the hill and hope you survive.” – Pat [11:35]
“They might as well ski down the side of the Sears Tower.” – Reavers [10:18]
US Team’s Decline:
Switzerland dominates, with the USA’s top finisher only in 10th. There’s general dismay at the performance of US men’s skiing.
“What has happened to US men skiing?” – Pat [16:37]
[17:06–18:52]
Women’s Team Success:
Abby Murphy scores for the US women’s hockey team; Gopher players contribute, but only Murphy is on the US squad.
College Teams Impacted:
The NCAA women’s teams, notably Wisconsin and Ohio State, are playing without their Olympic athletes.
[30:20–34:28]
Wolves’ Troubles:
Discussion about the precarious future for coach Chris Finch (“Finchy”) as the team slides, owner restlessness, and Rudy Gobert’s public criticism of teammates for lack of defense.
“If they stink again tonight…I don’t know if Finchy’s going to make it…Because these new owners…they got Mike and Nori kind of waiting there to replace him.” – Pat [30:35]
Historical Riff:
Pat relates a legendary story of ABA coach Jim Harding punching the team owner, leading to his firing.
[34:28–36:33]
Anthony Davis’ “Rest”:
The gang jokes about Davis (traded to Washington) sitting out the rest of the season for “team-building” (read: tanking for a high draft pick).
“He said, I’m sitting out the rest of the year. That's his role.” – Pat/Joe [35:32]
NBA Critique:
Pat lambastes the state of the NBA:
“God, that league is so screwed up, it's unbelievable.” – Pat [36:37]
[37:01–38:59]
“They had, like 2,000 young girls there that were just nuts…” – Pat [38:01]
[13:15–24:18]
Super Bowl Halftime (Bad Bunny):
Major indifference from the crew, who watched only minutes of the performance, mostly due to language barrier.
“Generally, I watch none of it, but I watched four or five minutes. But I remember my Spanish isn't real good.” – Pat [13:30]
Olympic Documentaries:
Conversation drifts through stories of Olympic scandals, judging corruption, and dramatized retellings (“Meddling,” “I, Tonya”).
On Super Bowl Staleness and the NFL’s Future:
“The lack of offense I think is very troubling to the NFL.” – Joe [02:36]
On the Risk of Downhill Skiing:
“These people were coming over that jump and going 100ft down the way, going 100 miles an hour. I'm surprised anyone ever lives…” – Pat [10:23]
On Athlete Financial Recklessness:
“He's not gonna have a nickel…He’ll be on the next episode of Broke, Broke. Him and Adrian now.” – Reavers/Pat [05:58–05:59]
On the State of the NBA:
“God, that league is so screwed up, it's unbelievable.” – Pat [36:37]
On U.S. Men’s Ski Results:
“So we stinks. We stinks.” – Joe [16:45]
On Olympic Documentaries:
“I'm not watching a hundred minutes when I know how it turns out.” – Pat [23:51]
Conversational, witty, and steeped in the lived-in camaraderie of sports-loving Minnesota dads. The Garage Logic crew swings from analysis to comic relief, with sharp asides directed at sports figures, league trends, and the Minnesota sports scene. The episode is full of banter, quick jibes, and personal anecdotes, but always circles back to the central thesis of “common sense prevails (sometimes).”
