We started the Tuesday afternoon commute and people then came back the following Tuesday probably and took one day of vacation. But a holiday. But I was thinking, so with it on a Saturday, when are they all going to go to the. When are they all going to take off? And we discovered Monday the whole week. That's. That's incredible.

I don't want to out anybody. I'm glad you brought this up today, Patrick. I have two boys playing travel baseball, and I did get a text from one of the two teams and I'm not going to name which one it came from and said, we're heading for Fourth of July vacation. Wanted to say, well, it is Monday, June 29th.

But that's okay, though. Those things happen.

We are not real. Everybody kind of points to this week is taking it off. You know, what's the problem is I thought may kind of dragged along for me. I thought it didn't really speed up, but I can't believe June is over. It's just.

Like, you know, going to a couple of ball games. The Twins have already played more than half of their schedule already. You know.

82nd. It's. Well, yes, because the All Star. Because these morons keep saying the All Star break is the first half of the second half, even though they played 90 games and they only have 70 left.

You know, and it's funny because, you know, the. I got to give. I got to give the Chris Atterbury a little bit of credit because I'm in the midst of. I rarely get to watch the club on tv. I'm listening mostly on the radio. Driving here and. Yeah, exactly. He had a great line yesterday. Said, well, the Twins are going to escape Minneapolis with a series victory over the Rockies and we're going to get out of the heat and head to Houston, which I thought was a home run. That was a great line yesterday.

They do. I imagine they don't have the rough open very often in Houston.

Have you been to that ballpark?

[Patrick Reusse]

World Series, Covered the World Series.

Oh, five.

That's right. When they were still in the National League. Yeah.

They got some young guys that's, you know, what's going on everywhere in baseball except Minnesota. They're bringing up the kids and letting them play. Where we got Tristan Gray and now cow Pepper's hurt, I guess, over there.

He is. He's not a kid. He's 30.

As I told you. I talked to him like after I wrote the column about the kid and I talk or I exchange text and. And Kreidler's dad said, yeah, we're going to be up to see him either in Minnesota, either at. Either in Minneapolis or St. Paul. He didn't. He was looking. They were looking for a week when both teams were home, just in case. But what's his story? Not only that he plays good shortstop. I just been an up and downer, you know, I don't think he can play. Yeah. These guys. Well, the good thing they got with him is, you know, he can play shortstop, he can play second base and he can play center field, too. They were very paranoid about having James Altman as a backup center fielder. Who, by the way, I saw what a game the other day for somebody, James Outman. And you know who. You know who's available?

Simeon Woods, Richardson.

Even though he was. But he had like 13 good innings and they got rid of him anyway.

Why did they give. Get rid of him?

Back they brought him back, the right hander. He was sneaky. He was sneaky. I can't remember.

The crafty right hander. Good guy. But Rosak, I looked up, I said look up just for his fastball and they immediately told me, tops out at 88. Oh, but what the heck. He's been at it since 18, I think, I think he was a four year. He's a red. I think he had a red shirt of Mankato. I think he was there five years and then he, you know, won a lot of games for him and. But he's been at it ever since and he hasn't, never hasn't pitched in the majors yet. But I'm rooting for him to get a shot down in Houston this weekend.

You know, it is amazing because you look and they're what, five games under.500 and you're thinking how. Yeah, how are they only five games under five?

[Patrick Reusse]

The Dodgers, they had a chance to beat them a couple of times.

[Joe Soucheray]

They only. Yeah, they lost two of those games by one run.

[Patrick Reusse]

Yeah, they, they. Oh, by the way, Johan's back. I saw in Philly, he saved it last night. So I was, I was thinking that was long term, but he's, he saved it last night. But you know, they're not. When you look at the lineup, you think they're really terrible, but they're leading the American League in run scored, which is unbelievable.

So you raised something that I was going to ask you based upon a listener with. Based. And you're going to have to walk me through this because I don't even know the answer to any of this stuff. But based upon the way baseball's heading with potentially having a lockout next year, are they going to, are they going to blow it up again at the, the deadline? I think, are they going to basically get rid of whatever they can and just kind of.

Well, I would think Joe Ryan probably gets traded, don't you?

[Joe Soucheray]

Oh, for sure.

Try to get something for him.

But Bell will probably get traded for whatever Bell probably Larnick. Is he going to get traded?

Larnick they'd like to trade because I think they think this road and better athlete, you know. Sure. And he's.

I think he played in the road a couple of games and so he's back. But you got him and then you had Roden and Emmanuel Rodriguez.

Who would be playing really good right now if he hadn't slid into first base and ruined his thumb and now underwent surgery. Right. So I was watching the Red Sox Yankees last night.

[Joe Soucheray]

Yes sir.

And the right fielder I think won the Golden Glove last year, abreu. But it's 20 and Sonny Gray takes a no, no into the eighth and he's throwing 91 pitches. And you can see the Red Sox basically hoping he gives up a hit. You know. So with one out he gives up a hit and they replace him. And then in the ninth they basically hand. They bring in Chapman. He's not good. He walks a couple. And then the right fielder, Abreu, Will Abreu was a Gold Glover last year I think are great. Makes a throw to nowhere as there's. And they scored two runs on this. It's like a three base air. So they go to extra innings. And then I turned it off because I was disgusted. And the Red Sox rallied. They just swept the Yankees in four games.

Because they don't have judge and Stanton hasn't played for months.

Tampa Bay is going to run away with that division, aren't they?

[Patrick Reusse]

They probably will. You know and I think the American League still has what four teams over 505 something like that. You like the young mighty whities though.

I do. I like the Whities and I think I mean the west is pretty much terrible in the American League.

[Patrick Reusse]

Yes. Seattle's leading one game's under 500. One game under 500. They haven't hit worth a dam.

I just don't. I don't think it matters because like you mentioned, the Dodgers are just gonna find a way to win it anyway. Don't you think?

Well, yeah. I mean, last year, they did go to seven last year and Toronto had. Toronto was ahead of them in this game. Seven, you know, so. But you know who's playing good? Philadelphia. They got it. They got it. They got it together pretty dang good.

I love the fact that Philly fired Thompson and Mattingly is the interim manager and his boss is his kid.

[Patrick Reusse]

Well, his kid is number two in the base.

Oh, I'm sorry, you're right. Dumbrowski is number one, but number two

in the baseball organization. But he has the title general manager.

His kid. Yeah, that's. That is fantastic. I love that. But Matty Lee is, you know, they've been playing great since they got him and I. The old different voice thing, I don't buy any of that. I think you just get hot and you know, Schwarber's up to 30 home runs now and God, he.

What's funny too is when they gave him that five year deal or if you're thinking for that guy, but that swing.

[Patrick Reusse]

Yeah.

It's either go. He's either going to strike out or that thing's going six miles in the air.

Yeah, he's. He had some. And they stayed hit.

Why did the Cubs give up on him?

I remember he was a little chubby back then.

Didn't they trade him for something? Or maybe, maybe they just let him go as a free agent. I don't remember because he was with Boston for a year and then Boston let him go and then I think that's when he signed marginal deal with Philly. And then Philly then obviously that was a great contract for them. But then they gave him the extension.

Him and Harper are both going to probably go over 400 home runs for their careers this year.

[Joe Soucheray]

So I was going to ask you too about the. With the work stoppage, I was seeing some things that have kind of come out the contract lengths and things like that. What is the main sticking point outside of obviously the imbalance of spending and whatnot?

[Patrick Reusse]

They don't want to spend as much money. That's what it is. They want to somehow restrict the amount of money that players are being paid. But they made a really good move by raising the floor. So the guys who were trying to tank. I was talking to Perky about this and 80% of the guys that are 80, 85% of the people who beat the majors don't get to a four, don't get through a fourth season. You know, so most of them play under three years. And he was saying, you know, guys retire with now maybe a million and a half in the bank if they're three years and they never got it, you know, and spending money as they go along. And he said if they find out how amazingly quick that money goes away broke, you know, So I guess the. What he has. What they have to do is make the lower echelon of players who can vote, they. I don't know how much time you need to actually vote, but they have to get those guys on the underbelly to tell the guy, tell Scott, Boris and the fellas, we don't. We want to make money so we're okay when we get out of baseball. Instead of just the well, and they've 12, 15 guys are making hundreds of

millions and they also have to do away with this deferred money crap.

Well, they can defer it, but they should all count. It should count.

For the ones who get it done, they allow him. Somebody told me this. I think it was Wick talking to Mark Wicker the other Day he left as a pitcher in the fifth. And he left and he didn't immediately become the dh. And they still let him be the DH later in the game as though he hadn't played well.

For the most part, the holes aren't crowded together and it's a lot of walking.

Is it set up similar to the way they set it up for the Ryder Cup a couple years ago?

Well, it's shorter. It's right. 6,800 yards. The Ryder Cup. But they played the Ryder cup easy. Okay. Davis had him play it easy because he wanted to make it a birdie fest because he thought he had more birdie makers than the Euros did. And it worked out. But I don't know when it comes back in 2029 if we're going to make it that easy again, but.

And even though they were only two shots behind, plus you get a three hour rain delay and kind of takes the steam out. But I was. I did as I wrote in my lead for my column, the highway, the Minnesota Highway Department came through again. I like to take Highway 7 and then cut across 41. Have you seen that? Apparently she's closed for about a mile and a half down there. And it's been months, I guess. Yes, yes. But they just. I just trust my fellow man that if there's a big event at Hazeltine, they'll have the roads open. But actually it's the opposite. And I was living in Carver at the time, and I live in Jordan, but I was living in Carver at the time. And my next door neighbor rented his house out to a couple of Texas business big shots. And they couldn't have been cooler. And not only did they. They filled his fridge full of beer. They had a professional cleaning lady, they paid for it, come clean his house when they left. And I even said. I texted Dave, I said, hey, do you want me to cut your grass? You're gone all week. He's like, yeah, go ahead. But he hit a ball to a part of the park at Bellfield that home runs just don't get hit. And he narrowly missed it by about a foot and a half. And I said, time to do a few more push ups there, old guy.

But I'm just saying like that you guys hosted that. They had that huge, tremendously long late night game in Dundas, right? Yes, like the quarterfinals last weekend. And it went, it went a long. Well, yeah, it rained. Two hours of rain. And then they played till 2 in the morning. I think he won it with a home run.

But I saw that clip and I went, oh, that's fantastic.

Here's what I'm worried about with town baseball, Patrick. I think baseball in general, as you and I have discussed on and off the air, is in a little bit of trouble because not enough kids are playing. But B, you're not getting the 20 to 25 year old kid that wants to spend all summer with a Tom baseball team anymore.

No. And here's the other thing. In Minnesota, where is the heartbeat of town team baseball? Stearns county up there, they're closing. All the closing like two thirds of the Catholic parishes. And you know, they used to say if you wanted a town team up there, you needed a two bars, a Catholic church and a baseball field, you know. And you know, the. This is sad. My Croatian friends who have been coming here ever since I met him at the crote hall when. 2018, when Croatia played for the World cup title. And they always. The mom is from Greenwald and they had 13 kids in the family or something. So average, you know. And the big event, barley days, the last days in August last year, the last year because the parishes are closing. You know, the parish or the St. Cloud, Stearns county closed like 2/3 of the parishes up there.

That guy, I'm not even gonna dignify him by saying his name, but I think you know what I'm doing. But you'd think at that point the world will go, listen, Germany, here's the deal. You don't got to be a country no more on account of you keep attacking the world. What do you think you're Mars or something?
