The roofing industry is broken, and we've got the fix. At HirePro, we help homeowners do the
Joe
same thing a roofer would do when it hails on their own house.
Pat
Own the project, delegate the tasks, and keep the compensation. But you don't have to take my word for it. You could ask Chrissy. Chrissy, how'd it go?
Patrick
It went great. You educated us on how everything worked, showed us behind the curtain, so to speak. And after our $25,000 roof was replaced, we walked away with almost $6,000 for the work we put in.
Joe
And what work was that?
Patrick
We got the permit and we picked the color. Hire Pro handled everything else. You did a great job. And I'm not even being paid to say that.
Mark Ellis
If anyone's listening and has a storm
Patrick
damage claim, call them. Don't hire a roofer, hire a pro.
Pat
That's awesome.
Joe
I appreciate the kind words.
Pat
And I think you just made up our new motto. All right, Joe, you're up.
Patrick

Patrick
Have the song.
Pat
Have the song.
Joe
All right. Makes me feel a lot better about doing the show.
Pat
That's right.
Joe
We don't have to come in humming.
Patrick
Pat, you got a world title game in the world's most popular sport. Yes, the world.
Joe
There they're crazy for it.
Patrick
Where one team did not have a shot on goal and lost one to nothing.
Joe
This was the. They got messy. They got a guy. That's the legend of legends.
Patrick
According to the Athletic.
Pat
Wait, wait. You gotta build this up because I guarantee Pat hasn't heard this stat.
Patrick
There's a guy from the Athletic who did the analytics.
Joe
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Patrick
Messi walked 63% of the time
Joe
what
Patrick
was his head but was always ready to pounce. He was observing closely and he was ready to pounce. Unfortunately, he didn't pounce.
Pat
He never did. Never did pounce.
Patrick
They got two shots in what's called extra time. But they were neither of them involved. The goalie bothering to get involved.
Joe
The goalie so words. The goalie could have had a chair.
Patrick
Could have had their. Sat there and had a heater.
Pat
Little dinner. Maybe a little dinner.
Patrick
The other thing I like too. I noticed this.
Joe
He was ready to pounce. I noticed unfortunately, he never poked.
Patrick
The team goes on offense. All right, here they come. Here comes Spain or Australia or wherever the hell they were. Argentina. And they race down the field and they get down there and it's almost. Sometimes they say, oh, the hell with it. They go back. They go back, see their own goaltender. How you doing? We're gonna start over. And then they go back down.
Joe
Now that I know they had no shots, I might have to watch a replay.
Patrick
No shots.
Pat
He's gonna go back and see it.
Joe
Yes. I gotta see how you play. Because they went extra time, right?
Patrick
Not to mention the goal is the size of this building.
Joe
But I think we played 97 minutes of regulation and then 30 more at least. So 130 minutes and no shots.
Patrick
I thought they were going to keep playing until Arkansas won or Argentina. Argentina.
Pat
Maybe Arkansas had a better shot.
Joe
The other stupid thing is when you score a goal in extra time, it doesn't win the game doesn't happen. It's like the fit that because this team that hasn't pista drop the whole game still deserves its chance to tie it up. So then we can go to the very fair penalty.
Pat
That's right.
Patrick
Who's the comedian have on a mental block. The comedian did the bit on golf. He created the Robin Williams. Robin Williams. It's like the bit Robin Williams did. Well, it's going to be 14 holes, right?
Pat
No, no, he says. So that's it. One hole. Bleep.
Joe
No, I do it 18 times.
Patrick
So the team that wins in overtime doesn't really win.
Joe
No, not yet. Not yet.
Pat
Because there was so much action. There was so much hot scoring action.
Joe
So has anybody ripped Argentina for not having a shot? I mean, is there. So Pat.
Patrick
I further looked it up.
Joe
Yes.
Patrick
I got very curious, so I went to the.
Joe
Has anybody else done this?
Patrick
It's never happened in a World cup final, In a World cup final that a team didn't have a shot. Then I kept. Then I looked up further. Is it common in soccer for a team not to have a shot on goal the entire game? And they said it is not common, but it happens.
Joe
Oh, yeah, it happens. I gotta say, I have attended one World cup final in the Rose Bowl.
Patrick
Who was it?
Joe
Brazil was the heavy favorite and Italy was the opponent. And Italy knew that if they tried to do anything right, they'd probably get beat. So they did nothing. Did they have a shot all game? I think it went to penalty kicks. But they must have had a shot. If nobody's ever done them. They mean they didn't really try. They just played keep away.
Patrick
Did either team. Did either team have a player ready to pounce?
Joe
I can tell you who had a player who did have a player ready to pounce. Italy. Because what shocked me was there's the Azer, I believe they call them the blue. The blue. The azure. The Azure. The azure, yeah. They. They were noted for their conservative style. Not even, I mean, for traditionally, apparently.
Pat
The 1994 men's championship World cup final match played on July 17, 1994, was the first World cup final to be decided by a penalty shootout after a 00 draw between Brazil and Italy. Brazil won the shootout 3 to 2 to claim their historic fourth title in front of 94,194 spectators.
Joe
But do we have. How many shots?
Patrick
Do the shootout rules the same? Do they make sense or do you still get to kick till you maybe get a couple?
Pat
So that's obviously what Argentina was trying to do.
Joe
Nine chances.
Patrick
I think I've told you this. I told you this Friday and I'm sticking to it. It'll get to the point where no team will be allowed to win. No team will be allowed to win.
Joe
It could be. Man, did they do a Box score here. Yeah, they didn't have many shots, I can tell you. Italy didn't have many shots, but Braz was loaded, so they were very afraid of them. But I was, I was a little disappointed. Although the pregame with all the Brazilian fans dressed up like Carmen Miranda, men
Patrick
and women, bananas on their hats, all
Joe
over the place, and you didn't know, you know, if you were gonna. If you were the type of person to proposition a really good looking person, you didn't know if it was a man or.
Patrick
Okay, serious question.
Pat
Here we go.
Patrick
What is the appeal?
Joe
I don't know. I don't know.
Pat
You know what it is? It's pride of your country.
Patrick
Maybe that's it.
Pat
That's the only thing billion people apparently
Joe
watch, are interested in it, so.
Patrick
Well, God love him.
Joe
I don't get it. Yeah, get it.
Pat
You know who was a fan, though, as I mentioned earlier?
Patrick
Well, he's one of the guys.
Pat
He loves no shots.
Patrick
He loves a defensive game.
Pat
That's right. Jacques would have loved Argentina's effort.
Patrick
All right, switch.
Joe
Realize until you, Mr. Soccer, told me that they didn't have any shots because,
Patrick
well, I kept hearing that and I thought, that can't be true. That just can't be true.
Pat
You got to tell Pat about the one call you had to make of the game. You're watching. He didn't know which team had the red.
Patrick
I had to text somebody, finally, who's wearing red?
Joe
Well, I've had that problem because, you know, it's. Sometimes I was in a store, a convenience store while the game was going on, and it's a convenience store owned by fellas from Latin America.
Patrick
Right, right.
Joe
And while I was there.
Patrick
This is yesterday.
Joe
Yes.
Patrick
Yeah.
Joe
While I was there, the one guy says, go for. He thought it was for Argentina. And they all rushed over there and left me hanging with my whatever products I had because they thought. And then they found out not only wasn't it a goal, it wasn't even a shot, apparently so. But yeah, they were. They were. Let's just say their focus was not on who came through the door.
Patrick
Right.
Joe
They were very focused on the hot.
Patrick
Can we switch topics wildly?
Joe
One more, one more thing, though. Do you know that next time around they've had so much fun, they're going to have 64 teams in the tournament because they figure they can rip. You know, people have to pay FIFA a fee for this whole damn thing,
Pat
you know, because they want another Cape Verde story.
Joe
Yes, they're. Well, plus they're all crooks. Wow.
Pat
Anyway, they're worse than the NCAA March Madness bracket.
Joe
Yes. Right.
Pat
Come on in.
Joe
What we just go to.
Pat
Well, they haven't announced it officially yet, but 76. The rumor is they're gonna have 76.
Patrick
Hey, speaking of that, was there a World cup bracket?
Pat
Oh, God, yeah.
Patrick
I didn't see one in the page.
Joe
Yeah, but you don't. You late take, I think. No, there's the brackets early. But then you don't automatically play that. Do you automatically play a certain.
Pat
I don't think so, no. Because the first couple rounds are.
Joe
I think it's somebody. I don't know. Who you beat has something to do with it. Who you play in the next, after the next.
Patrick
What would be analogous in another sport to a team in a championship game?
Joe
Yes.
Patrick
Not getting a shot.
Joe
Would it be having a first down?
Patrick
That's what I said earlier.
Pat
That is true. But I had said they don't even
Patrick
run a play out. No play.
Pat
They didn't even run a play.
Patrick
Didn't even run a play.
Joe
Yeah. So basically you fumbled every kickoff.
Pat
Well, baseball. It would be a perfect game. Right. You didn't even have a base runner.
Patrick
You didn't even have a. Yeah, but perfect games are. They're exciting.
Pat
True, true. That's a big 27 ground outs.
Patrick
Yes. Well, I was telling the boys I was working a sprinkler in the yard. So I set the sprinkler, come back in, and I got the timer going. Watch the game. Then I go back and reset the sprinkler. I was really afraid I was gonna something. It turns out I didn't. And so I saw pretty much of it. The lawn was looking great, but I was. So I saw enough to. To make these observations that I. I don't understand this. There's no shot. So they didn't get a shot.
Joe
How could they?
Pat
You were saying, do something.
Joe
Yes, shoot the cock. You have. You have revealed to me. Because I didn't read the gamers or anything. You ever revealed that to me. I didn't know there was no shots.
Pat
In fact, Joe or Patrick? Joe's observations from the World cup in Gl. I made notes. He wants to fix soccer on the grand stage. This way, fewer players, too many players, shorter nets.
Patrick
The field's too big.
Pat
Field's too big. Put them all on skates and give them a puck.
Joe
Yeah, that's. That's my famous Tommy Reed moment about. Up in Duluth, about 1985. And they're in the second overtime, so they need me as a guest. Right. Come over and Says, well, I know you're not the biggest fan. What would you do to improve the game? You know what I'd do, Tommy? I'd melt the ice. And then I'd get two big basket, two big bowls up there and put baskets on them. I think it'd be a hell of a game, Pat, this game. Hockey is the wide open, crazy affair compared to this, right?
Patrick
Well, this game made me a basketball fan.
Joe
Unreal. You, you would have rather watched Olivia Miles with the gag?
Patrick
Guys, I'm not going that far, okay? But basketball has players who can do stuff.
Joe
Yes.
Patrick
Not one soccer player I saw can do anything.
Joe
You don't see basketball players walking, but they are pouncing.
Pat
So that's our new line here. You see what Randy Moss in his
Joe
day, the show has been boring today, but we're ready to.
Patrick
Ready to pounce.
Pat
Moss might have been just kind of walking, but he was ready to pounce.
Patrick
Okay, I'm ready to pounce. Did you follow the DeChambeau controversy?
Joe
I have not seen it yet. I've read about it. What was he trying to do, Plow down the vegetation?
Patrick
He hits a ball into this God awful mess of crude, much thinner than
Joe
normal because they haven't had any rain.
Patrick
And as he goes to the ball, he steps on some weeds behind the ball.
Joe
Okay, all right. Now whether he did steps on them, whether we don't know if he did
Patrick
it on purpose or not, the more you look at it, the more you think he might have done it on purpose.
Joe
Knowing him, he might have done it.
Patrick
And then they wait till after the round and they say, by the way, Bryson, we got to talk to you about this shot on number five. It's a two shot penalty.
Joe
Oh, he's in already.
Patrick
And they're done.
Joe
Yeah.
Patrick
Then he goes, they get a couple of golf carts, they load them up with people, officials, they go back out there and they reenact the thing. And the cameras weren't within hearing range.
Joe
Is the tournament over by then?
Patrick
No, this is day two. It's Friday night.
Joe
Oh, that's right.
Patrick
So they're out there and you can see him terribly animated and seething and gesticulating. Here's what I did like this. And they said, two shots, the RNA baby. At which point he said, well, maybe I'm not playing tomorrow. And they had apparently had no reaction to that. They figured he was either going to show up or not show up. And of course he showed up. He didn't handle it well. But that, but what's followed is he is lit into McElroy and Brandell Chamblee like you wouldn't believe. Really? Because apparently Chamblee was a big proponent of giving him the two shot penalty. And McElroy will say anything against a lift. He hates live. Chamblee starts saying how. Or DeChambeau starts saying how Chamblee is not a pedophile but is adjacent to it. He. He trained. He. He. What's that word we use when you. You're. He groomed a 20 year old and then he left his. Left his wife and they cheated.

McElroy cheated on his wife and they're accusing me of cheating.
Joe
This is all in the last 24 hours on Sunday? Yes. Wow. A lot of people aren't reporting what he said.
Patrick
It's just so unseemly what's being said. It's just unbelievable.
Joe
God, he's an idiot. He's an idiot. But here's the sad news today. You know who pulled out of the three? Not Scotty. Ryan Fox.
Patrick
We did.
Joe
The new favorite.
Pat
I know.
Joe
Spieth pulled off our new favorite golfer in the world. He plays speed golf compared to the rest of these guys.
Patrick
He hit his second shot to 18 yesterday before the players had cleared the green.
Joe
Yes. Yes. He doesn't wait. It's unbelievable.
Patrick
And this. I hope this resonates with. With stiffs like me who. Who take five minutes to line up their triple bogey putt.
Joe
Yes. Right, let's go here. Yeah. He's unbelievable.
Patrick
I loved it. I love the way he plays.
Joe
And he's the third New Zealander.
Patrick
Can only name one other one. Bob Charles.
Joe
Michael Campbell and Bob Charles. Now, I gotta say this. This guy was great. I listened to his press conference afterwards. He went like a half hour.
Patrick
He's Great.
Joe
Any question. And 2005, Michael Campbell's win was at Pinehurst. I covered it. And he beat out Tiger most. Boringhurst. Pinehurst, Wasn't it Pinehurst.
Patrick
Well, it's a British Open. You're talking about.
Joe
Oh, the British. No, I'm talking about the. Oh, he won there too, huh?
Patrick
I guess. I don't know.
Joe
No, no, he won at Pinehurst. He was a major winner. He won the US Open at Pinehurst?
Patrick
Yeah.
Joe
Not the British Open, but. But, God, he's boring. Just boring as hell. But this guy was foxy.
Patrick
They call him foxy.
Joe
Showed up this week, they would have had an extra 10,000 people.
Patrick
That's a shame. I suppose he can be forgiven. He probably wants to go back.
Joe
He didn't when he. When he said, I'll be there. He didn't expect to be a major champion three days earlier. He's got to be a little amped up, so I can't blame him. Nobody can blame him. But it would have been fun.
Patrick
Is Scheffler fulfilling his obligation?
Joe
I believe he'll be there. Yeah, he will be.
Patrick
I mean, they start coming in today.
Joe
Oh, yeah.
Patrick
I don't know. Shuffler.
Joe
They put him on a. I'm sure we put him on a very nice. He's got his own nice jet, but. Yeah, I think Hollis probably bought the fuel for this trip, you know?
Pat
Yeah.
Patrick
So Speed's not going to be here. He. He got out. He backed out.
Joe
He bailed out. They. Is the weather going to remain this steamy?
Pat
No. We're supposed to cool off starting tomorrow, are we not?
Patrick
Well, I'm going to look it up for you because I believe we're going to cool off.
Joe
You know what that means?
Pat
We're going to get a storm again tonight.
Joe
Get a storm tonight?
Patrick
There's no storm last night.
Pat
Oh, are you kidding me?
Patrick
This morning, not at my house. There wasn't any storm.
Pat
Well, we were dropping off for football practice this morning.
Joe
Oh, man.
Pat
For football camp, technically, I should say. And, boy, we drove through a monsoon this morning.
Patrick
Here's your 3M open weather. Friday 83.
Joe
Perfect.
Patrick
Saturday night. Thursday, 82. Friday 83. Saturday 93. Sunday 93.
Joe
We don't like 93. We like 83. 83 is perfect.
Patrick
Yeah, I like 93.
Joe
Yeah, so go to the 3 on Thursday. I Got the assignment Friday and Sunday, so. Okay. But you know, 93. 93 and humid is uncomfortable.
Patrick
Yes.
Joe
And at this time of year it's rarely 93 when it's not humid. So. Yeah. I was in the pool this Morning though, at 6:30am it was delightful.
Patrick
I'm so impressed that you do that early in the morning.
Joe
It was delightful. Yes, it was.
Patrick
Swim your laps.
Joe
Yep. Well, I don't. I, I paddle a lot and then I swim up and down there. But I, I bas morning bath in the pool.
Pat
I gotta bring up something. So Will the Thrill and I are leaving the St. Patrick recognition baseball night Friday evening. And I would say it's about somewhere between 8:30 and 9.
Joe
Okay.
Pat
And the play by play radio voice Chris Atterbury, who was doing the game, was it Molly? Was Molly there this weekend or. It was Perky. Perky was there. And I hear Patrick is holding court in the press box cafeteria at Wrigley Field. So it was you, Bobby Nightingale and a couple of others. And I was howling in the vehicle because they were regaling stories about the pregame meal before the ball game.
Joe
There was six or seven people there. And I don't think that I could be accused of dominating the conversation.
Pat
Well, he did say you and a
Joe
bunch of Chicago sports writers and Junior.
Pat
Okay.
Joe
And Junior, our beat writer, who's fantastic and a very quiet version of his dad. You know, as I tell his dad all the time, he has all your good habits and none of your bad ones. Did they read? I went out to dinner on Thursday night with Kenny Leiker, an old buddy of mine, and Nightingale Sr. And Tommy Keegan, who was the guy that came in from the New York Post and got Darryl Strawberry signed for the Yankees. They came here, they came here with orders to get Darryl Strawberry signed by the Yankees because his boss wanted him on the back page of the New York Post. And he stayed a week and he failed. And three days later the boss said, get back there. Get Darryl signed. And he got Darrell signed, but he's really mellowed out. Even seniors mellowed out. And Kenny's. Kenny's really mellowed out. So it's, it's kind of sad. You know, I'm. Where's the hijinks?
Pat
Yeah.
Joe
Yeah. Really. I mean, everybody was just mellow.
Patrick
Well, did it ever consider to. We're all 100, you're all 110.
Joe
I think I'm the oldest in the group at 80, but not by, not by a large margin.
Pat
So was the Twins faithful well represented
Joe
in WRIGLEYVILLE Oh, God, yes.
Pat
Yeah.
Joe
There had to be Friday night. There had to be 6,8000 twin spaces.
Pat
No kidding.
Joe
Jerseys all over the place. It's a great thing now because you go. I think it's great that they go every other year.
Pat
Yeah.
Joe
So they make it an event. You know, they come up here and then every other year we go down. A new generation of people and they.
Patrick
I like that park a lot better than Fenway.
Joe
Oh, God, yes. They've done.
Patrick
Fenway's a dump.
Joe
They've done wonders with Wrigley. They've, you know, the. God. They excavated Joe underneath it and built these clubhouses and stuff like that. It's amazing what they've done with the place. Yet it still has the old charm. Oh, now, I guess the charm. You lose a little of the charm if you get the real good seats down front. Because they're like 400 bucks or something like that. But.
Pat
But didn't they do it a section each year? Did they do like the outfield one year and then they did. Okay.
Patrick
And they still have the ivy.
Joe
Oh, yeah, they still have the Ivy. They still have the bleachers. The bleachers are still first come, first serve. They all line up. I think they're first come, first serve because they're all lined up and the rooftops now.
Patrick
Yeah, but didn't the Cubs buy those buildings?
Joe
Most of them. There's still two that they haven't bought. And there's a great big scoreboard in right field. And there used to be a building out there that they have pure oil or something. I don't know what it is. They haven't succeeded in buying it yet. They say as soon as their Cubs buy it, they'll tear down that scoreboard and start charging those tickets again for the rooftop. But it is amazing. I mean, I think the college age youth a little older, the 23 to 30 crowd that's still single and likes to drink, they get on those rooftops and they're not complaining about a call at first base.
Pat
I can remember in 2009 when the mighty AM 1500 promotion staff made the excursion down to Wrigley Field. I accompanied them just to supervise.
Joe
That was the first time we'd ever played it.
Pat
No, no, 97 was the first year, but this is the first time that. When we had the baseball rights.
Joe
Oh, that's right.
Pat
We went down there and we did lose a couple of staff members for a couple hours. And we said, are you. Please tell me you're still alive.
Joe
That's right. Cause when they first started the interleague play, you played your.
Pat
Correct.
Joe
The division that. You're like the Central played the Central in the east that didn't. They've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out.
Patrick
Did you.
Joe
By the way, did we talk about this last week? What? The All Star Game. What a fiasco. Yeah, it was a bad game. Brutal.
Pat
That was a bad game.
Joe
But the Home Run Derby was fun.
Pat
Sure.
Joe
The rest of it was terrible. They finally figured out the Home Run Derby. They don't have these guys making like 400 swings.
Patrick
They.
Joe
You know, they. They finally figured it out. But the game was awful.
Patrick
If anybody in the Home Run Derby was from Argentina, they wouldn't hit a home run.
Pat
They wouldn't even swung.
Patrick
They wouldn't have hit it the out.
Joe
Unbelievable. No shots, but it's. It's a beautiful game. It's the beautiful game.
Patrick
Okay.
Joe
What's beautiful about it?
Patrick
You know, it's. I. I think Reavers might have nailed it by accident. Yeah, of course it was n. It's. It has to do with. You know, you're not in the news a lot when you're Argentina.
Pat
No. This is your thing.
Patrick
So this is a big deal, you know.
Joe
Yeah. But of course, I had a very good reason for rooting for Spain, because Trump's been ripping Spain for, like, two months. Right. And then the Argentina guy is the Trump of Argentina. He's a very hardcore. Right.
Patrick
Well, Don. Don took part in the post.
Joe
Did they boom much?
Patrick
Well, a little bit, but he wouldn't leave.
Joe
Oh, really? He wanted to hang out.
Patrick
They had to Photoshop him. This is true. Apparently, Height had it in his news. He was photoshopped out of the Spanish team picture.
Joe
Really Wouldn't leave. Got into the. Tried to get into the picture.
Patrick
He loved it so much.
Joe
I think Spain wanted him in the picture, considering the things that he's said.
Patrick
Trying to do a team picture here, John, you got to step aside. He wouldn't step aside. Well, anyway, so they Photoshopped him out of it. Really? Yeah.
Joe
Wow. I hope they did a better job than when they photoshopped Clem out. Over here at William's Arena. They catch his shop shoes in it. They paid and Cleb out of the thing.
Patrick
But they see Photoshopping has come a long way.
Joe
They kept.
Pat
I totally forgot about that.
Joe
Kept. CLE. Had to do that as a prank or.
Pat
Or was the shoe with. Were they a sponsor? You like, Red Wing shoes were a big sponsor or something.
Joe
Not like tennis shoes. Oh, my God.
Pat
I Forgot about the shoes.
Patrick
Where do our poor boys go tonight? Cleveland.
Pat
Yeah, that's the big one.
Joe
So you got Zebby struggling, you got Abel gone for the year, you got Prelim getting up to his. Any, any limit. I think the. We're hitting the wall here with the
Pat
starting rotation, especially when Joe Ryan's about to be trained.
Joe
I bet they do trade him, too.
Pat
I bet they do.
Patrick
I don't think.
Joe
Right.
Patrick
I mean, right now, during the season,
Joe
right before the training, I don't think they were going to. But now it depends if they go to Cleveland and get beat three out of four and. You know, last year, this is. You know, this is the time when they went crazy and. Because they came out of the break playing bad. And they will remember they lost their
Pat
first two to Colorado out of the break last year.
Joe
Right. Yeah. But, you know, they. 100 games they played already and they won almost half of them. So they play. That was a hell of a game Friday night. And the crowd impressed me because Ryan Jeffers hit that ball the little left field corner there and up in the press box. I didn't think it was gone, but the crowd, they knew the. Was she blowing out Cubs fans? No, not really. No. It wasn't blowing much. Wasn't.
Patrick
But by Friday night, the smoke was gone, right?
Joe
Yeah, it wasn't as bad. It wasn't. It wasn't. They were. Still had the signs telling you to limit your travel.
Patrick
Well, you wore a mask, didn't you?
Joe
Oh, God, yes. Yeah. And also, you know, the smoke's a great. Chicago is a great place if you're on 90 coming in, you know, or is to have a lot of smoke problems because, you know, you're going at least three miles an hour down there, you know, to get downtown. So, yeah, we. We had a hell of a time in downtown Chicago until the wife says, I'm going home.
Pat
And no train ride was entertained. The train was not entertained.
Joe
Add two choices. Drive back in a. Or take her to the airport. So.
Patrick
Well, she went for the. She was feeling upset or something.
Joe
She was not feeling well. You know, she wasn't. She was. She's had an allergy.
Patrick
Oh, yeah.
Joe
To her husband.
Pat
Did you guys. She's allergic. Did you see. By the way, was it bush that hit the home run and Anthony Rizzo was in the crowd and caught the ball?
Joe
Oh, I didn't. I didn't. I did notice that. I did hear that he was holding
Pat
his kid in the. In the bleachers.
Joe
Yeah.
Pat
And I think. I'm almost positive it was Bush that
Joe
hit the home run, you know, simbly high school.
Pat
And he and Rizzo caught the home run in the stands. That was pretty cool. I think it was Sibley.
Joe
I think he's. He's. He's. He's our guy.
Pat
Let me look that up while Joe does this ad for Installed Building Solutions.
Patrick
It's the garage floor of the future, Pat, and it's right here now, because Installed Building Solutions has the latest technology for the epoxy garage floor. Polyurea. I don't know what that means, but I know it's the most current. Doesn't yellow or crack, and it's still the greatest to clean and easy to maintain. It's tough enough for trucks and tools and how busy your garage must be, especially in the summer. And they can do most floors in just one day so you can get your garage back quickly. And a coated garage floor is cool. It just looks better. It's cleaner, it's brighter. It's more finished every time you walk into it. IT's installed solutions. IBS coding. C O A T I N G. One word. IBSCoding.com he did attend Simley High School
Pat
and the University of North Carolina.
Joe
Yes. There you go. He's had a really good run down there.
Pat
So you know what today is, gentlemen, don't you? The 20th the Seattle Seahawks officially reported for training camp.
Joe
No and no. It is also the birthday of Christopher Ricey. Happy birthday. Second. My second son. Yes, it is.
Patrick
Okay, wait a minute. What does that mean? Other teams will be going shortly.
Pat
Vikings will be reporting in 11 days.
Joe
Why is Seattle going to. Do they play the Hawkins?
Pat
I think they must be, right? It says that they're the first ones to report there was a World cup
Patrick
game in their ballpark, wasn't there?
Pat
Yeah.
Joe
I think we rated their front office not only for the general manager, but for his assistant full his own tread. Trent Kirchner.
Pat
That's true.
Patrick
That's right.
Joe
Yeah. We're rating. We rated the Seahawks.
Patrick
So are the Vikes the favorites going into the season for the Central Division?
Joe
I would guess it's probably the Bears. North.
Patrick
North. I'm serious.
Joe
The North, I don't think has a bad team. No.
Pat
It was the only division that had all four teams with winning records last year.
Joe
Well, ours didn't really count. You know, ours was a bit. Ours was a bad idea to win the last five. It was a bad idea because you didn't. You.
Pat
You slipped in the draft.
Joe
Draft, for God's sakes. You know, so football.
Pat
It'll Be here before you know it.
Patrick
Joe, that's a bad time because that just means summer's almost over.
Joe
Yeah. Yes. Yes. How many. You know what I noticed last night? I don't. Usually don't notice this, but I was going out to cook a couple of brats at 9 o'. Clock. It was getting dark. Yeah, it was getting dark. Joe, we've peaked back a few days before that. It was bluebird out there.
Pat
Joe, it's already fall for you.
Patrick
Well, as a royal order of the 21st.
Joe
Yes.
Patrick
We're in a long, long, beautiful autumn.
Joe
Hey, did we pass the. Did both houses pass the permanent daylight savings?
Patrick
It dropped out of the news.
Joe
I don't know.
Patrick
I don't know what.
Joe
To the House and went to the Senate or the other way around.
Patrick
I don't know where it stands.
Joe
Are we for.
Patrick
I. I'm not. I don't want the sun up at 9am on a winter morning. We need some light before then.
Pat
The biennial changing the clocks has not been abolished according to the AI over overview on Google.
Patrick
Yes, I don't mind changing the clocks. It's kind of festive. Spring ahead, fall back, the whole deal.
Joe
As. As an aging guy.
Patrick
Yeah.
Joe
It test my.
Pat
Your memory?
Joe
No, it tests my ability to change the clock because we got the one that's open.
Pat
I know what it is.
Joe
We got the one that's over the door in the kitchen.
Pat
Yeah, no, I know what it is. You feel as though your knack scale has increased.
Joe
Hey, I changed the clock. And I judged myself by how many times it takes me to hit the nails. Cause it's up there. And this year it was only three or four. There was one year it took like 40. I had to take like three breaks.
Pat
He attributes that to changing a transmission.
Patrick
There's a hook on the back of a little hole in it that has to. Yeah, that's the hard. Yeah, that's tough.
Pat
And do you give them.
Joe
And then when I let out a bellow, the wife thinks I've gone nuts because I say, hey, yay. Four tries and I got. And then you gotta make sure it's not a false.
Patrick
Oh, I know.
Joe
Yeah. Cause. Yeah, you gotta make sure it's really stuck there. So then you gotta kinda tap it kind of stuff.
Patrick
You know what you gotta do?
Joe
Yeah.
Patrick
This year.
Joe
Yeah.
Patrick
You gotta go and you gotta just stand there. You gotta kind of look at it like this. Look and look and plan and then pounce.
Joe
Then pounce. Oh, I wanted to tell you one thing about sprinkling. You know, you go to hunt this morning.
Patrick
I'm an expert.
Joe
Our new lawn people the last couple years. Fantastic. A couple. This gal's gotta be 60. She comes driving up in her truck and unloads the damn moor. And by herself. And then the hubby's off someplace else. They've been watering the front lawn. Oh, we got alfalfa out there. You know, we usually have nothing, but it's.
Patrick
What do you mean? They stand there with a hose?
Joe
No, they got to set up the hose and it does it automatically.
Patrick
Oh, boy.
Joe
Now, we had a little problem with. We were. We were watering the street there for a while.
Patrick
Are you talking. You got the. In ground irrigation now?
Joe
No, we got. But we got. They set the timer up and it goes. And when the grass gets a lot of water on it, you know what it does?
Patrick
It grows.
Joe
What a concept.
Patrick
Yeah. That's why you like drought.
Joe
Yes. Because it doesn't grow. Although I have not touched a lawnmower at least 15 years now, so.
Patrick
Well, it's a record. You. You enjoy.
Joe
Yes. The wife was still being the mower 12 years ago.
Patrick
Yeah.
Joe
And she retired and we gave away all three lawnmowers. So, you know, we give these.
Patrick
And you really didn't need three. You would just buy one when last year's wouldn't start.
Joe
Yes. That's pretty. What? No, I think most of them lasted two years, really. And then they wouldn't start, so we'd give it away and buy a new one.
Patrick
Yeah.
Joe
Same guy. He loved us. You know, Same. Same little. Get out there and mow. Yes. Yes. You know what? She used to chuckle at that. Not anymore.
Pat
Not anymore.
Joe
Not anymore.
Patrick
No.
Joe
No.
Patrick
All right, I'm done.
Pat
Well, she's on the lawnmower. She's ready to pounce.
Joe
You've had some of these moments. What do you think? The time of. The time of getting back to. We can say, how you doing?
Patrick
You know, another week.
Joe
It's about another week. Yeah. Yeah.
Patrick
How you doing?
Mark Ellis
All right.
Joe
I'm not talking full conversation.
Patrick
No, no, no.
Joe
Just pleasantry. Come here. Yeah.
Pat
Maybe start with a nod like you're
Joe
feeling good today, honey. Yeah. And you don't. You don't get a. You don't get a nasty response. So anyway. You don't get a what?
Patrick
I think everything will smooth out.
Joe
You don't get a. You don't give a damn kind of response.
Patrick
Had to go to Chicago.
Joe
Yeah, right. Oh, well, all right.
Pat
See you later.
Garage Logic — MNST: WORLD CUP FINALE UPDATE: Messi didn’t move but he was ready to pounce!!
Episode Date: July 20, 2026
Host: Joe Soucheray ("The Mayor") with Pat, Patrick, and Mark Ellis
Podcast Network: Gamut Podcast Network
This episode of Garage Logic focuses on the surprisingly static play and result of the 2026 World Cup Final, where Argentina failed to register a shot on goal against Spain. The crew discusses soccer’s flaws and mystique, the spectacle of the final, and the idiosyncratic performance of Lionel Messi. The conversation branches into larger themes of sport—including comparisons to other championships, gripes with soccer’s rules, and the emotional draw of national pride—before the hosts veer into golf controversies, baseball stories, and the rhythms of Minnesota summer life.
Unprecedented Performance
“Messi walked 63% of the time... but was always ready to pounce. He was observing closely and ready to pounce. Unfortunately, he didn’t pounce.” (03:16 — Patrick)
“He never did. Never did pounce.” (03:40 — Pat)
The Nature of the Game
“The goalie could have had a chair... Sat there and had a heater... Maybe a little dinner.” (03:53–04:01 — Joe, Patrick, Pat)
Making Sense of the Appeal
“You know what it is? It's pride of your country... That's the only thing. Billion people apparently watch, are interested in it, so.” (09:16–09:23 — Pat, Joe)
Frustrations with Overtime and Winning
“The team that wins in overtime doesn’t really win... because this team that hasn’t pista drop the whole game still deserves its chance…” (07:07 — Joe)
Historical Context
Comparisons Across Sports
They try (with comic effect) to find parallels:
“What would be analogous in another sport to a team in a championship game not getting a shot? Would it be [not] having a first down?” (12:11–12:22) “Baseball? It would be a perfect game—you didn’t even have a base runner… but perfect games are exciting.” (12:33–12:43)
Joe’s tongue-in-cheek “fixes” for soccer:
“Fewer players, too many players, shorter nets... Put them all on skates and give them a puck.” (13:38–13:52)
Ready to Pounce: The New Meme
Golf Rules Controversy
Petty and Personal
“It’s just so unseemly what’s being said. It’s just unbelievable.” (18:51–18:56 — Patrick) “God, he’s an idiot.” (18:56 — Joe)
Twins at Wrigley Field
“Where’s the hijinks?... Everybody was just mellow.” (24:56 — Joe)
All-Star Game and Home Run Derby
“If anybody in the Home Run Derby was from Argentina, they wouldn’t hit a home run.” (28:24–28:29 — Patrick, Pat)
Weather and Living in MN
Life Milestones & Local Sports
On Messi’s Stat Line:
“Messi walked 63% of the time, but was always ready to pounce. He was observing closely and he was ready to pounce. Unfortunately, he didn’t pounce.”
(03:16 — Patrick)
Soccer’s Lack of Action:
“The goalie could have had a chair... Sat there and had a heater. Maybe a little dinner.”
(03:53–04:01 — Joe, Patrick, Pat)
Comparing Sports:
“What would be analogous in another sport to a team in a championship game not getting a shot?... It would be a perfect game… but perfect games are exciting.”
(12:11–12:43 — Patrick, Joe, Pat)
On Soccer’s Fixes:
“Put them all on skates and give them a puck.”
(13:52 — Pat, joking about turning soccer into hockey)
On National Pride in Soccer:
“It’s pride of your country… billion people apparently watch…”
(09:16–09:23 — Pat, Joe)
New Running Joke:
“Moss might have been just kind of walking, but he was ready to pounce.”
(15:12 — Pat, on Randy Moss and soccer’s meme)
The show flows as a lively, banter-filled discussion marked by playful skepticism about soccer’s entertainment value, nostalgic stories about sports journalism, and the unique flavor of Minnesota life. The hosts’ comedic rapport keeps the tone wry and accessible, even when skewering global sports or their own aging routines. Jokes recur (“ready to pounce”) and local color is abundant, making the episode both a sports recap and a hangout with quintessential Minnesotan sensibility.
This Garage Logic episode is equal parts soccer skepticism, community storytelling, and running comedic commentary on the world of sports. Even those who missed the “beautiful game” can appreciate the cultural translation and everyman wisdom—but maybe not the soccer itself.
