Now, I was in the car for two hours. I had to go get my taxes done and come back. And when I was last watching tv, Rory had slipped down to nine. And it looked like he was disappearing. And then the worm turned. What turned there? They. A couple guys came back to him, and then the worm.

I didn't start watching till about 4. Okay, so I saw the back nine.

Yeah.

Well, he was. It was ungodly that he was even in contention after 54 holes where he was hitting his drives. It was unbelievable. He was all over the ballpark. And after 36 holes, he was leading by six. And he. What did he hit? He'd hit 13 out of 28 fairways or something. Then it was. He was not hitting any fairways, but. Nice, nice. Now, how many majors? Six. Set. Six.

He's got six. And one of four now to win it twice in a row.

And six is. Six is getting in good company. Now, when you get to six majors, that's, that's pretty good.

You only got four holes. And part of their thing was on Sunday they would, you know, not, not show the rest. They never wanted to show the front nine because they wanted people.

And the nice thing about him is a few times I was down there, he. And he was with Brookshire for a while and he's broadcast. Brookshire broadcast. But Venturi was his buddy and they'd be upstairs at the bed's grill getting tuned up and about, you know, about two, they'd climb them up that, they'd climb them up that big ladder that was. He had amazing liver, man, he had amazing countenance. But you know, he was. I mean they used to. We used to have the run of the damn place.

I had breakfast in the clubhouse when I covered the tournament.

Oh, and if you wanted a drink, you could go upstairs and that's where Summerall and Venturi was drinking, you know, up there. And they'd be sitting around talking to the writers, getting semi tuned up and, and then they'd have an in house feed a little bit so they'd be able to keep track of what somebody was doing.

when they started TV was struggling to figure out how to cover those. How do we do this?

Well, you know how they solved it. I don't remember who the director was. Some famous guy. He said, just cover Palmer. That's what they started with. They covered Palmer because he was flamboyant and they were smoking and the heater.
