Hi, I'm tracy ibrahim. I'm an ocd therapist at nocd and here are my tips for 2026 new year surviving ocd. Let's start by number one, facing your fears gradually with ERP therapy. That is really the meat and potatoes, the, the secret sauce. That's the most important thing that you can do is to get into evidence based therapy, get some ERP where we start very, very small and work our way from our very tiny, tiny little fears, working our way up to the higher fears and by the time we get up there, they're not so scary anymore. So that's number one. Number two, practicing mindfulness. Because mindfulness teaches us to stay right here in this present moment. OCD tends to focus on what already happened or what might happen in the future. So it's going backwards and forward and the only place it's not is right here, the reality that you're living in in this moment, like me talking to you right now. So mindfulness tips include things that help us stay in present moment focused. Like I'm here, I am sitting in a pink chair, I am wearing glasses. That's going to help me focus on the moment instead of all the noise going on in my head, having ocd. Another great tip is self compassion. People with OCD tend to be terrible with being kind to themselves and it's really unfair. You're always willing to give kindness to other people and grace and patience, but when it comes to you, you're a lot harder on yourself. You know, OCD is a mental health condition and people with mental health conditions deserve all the self compassion and kindness from others. So make sure when you're talking about yourself or thinking about yourself that you're doing the same thing for yourself that you would do to somebody else who you really loved. That is a key tip because OCD is difficult enough to deal with by itself, let alone you also kicking yourself unnecessari. Remember, we're not responsible for our intrusive thoughts, urges, feelings, images, any of it. We don't make these up. They go against our values. That's why they're so disturbing. Lastly, accepting your thoughts with great, great amount of uncertainty. And I know that sounds hard, but being uncertain is part of life. We don't have to accept that. But most things in life are indeed uncertain. I don't know how long I'm going to live. I don't know a lot of things, but I do know what's happening right here in this moment. And that's one of the most important things. So make sure you're doing all of those important tips. And also from a holistic manner, make sure you're getting enough sleep that you're eating well, because those things also affect mental health. When you're not sleeping enough, when you're not eating enough, your body is not having all of the capabilities at their fullest and ready to help you when you're exhausted, when you've stayed up so late and you have to wake up early, things like that. Our mental health tends to get affected when we don't get enough sleep. And also oppositely, if you're sleeping too much to maybe avoid life, then again, maybe you need to get up a little bit earlier. And always make sure that you're eating enough to get through your day. Your body's like a vehicle. It needs gas to run. So don't run on caffeine, run on some healthy food, some get enough water. Make sure your whole self is doing okay and you don't have to do this alone. You can head on over to nocd.com where our trained therapists can help you with tips like these and help you learn how to live with OCD effectively. You don't have to live life on OCD's terms. You can live life on your own terms with proper treatment. So take good care of yourself and get the help that you need and you deserve. Because OCD sucks and ERP helps it suck a whole lot less.
