Takiya
A snowball rolling down the side of a snow covered hill it's growing like the size of a fish that the man claims broke his rib it's growing like a rose bud bloomin in the warmth of the summer sun.
Dr. Friesbrick
It'S growing.
Takiya
Like the tale by the time it's been told by more than one it's growing every day it grows a little more than it was the day before My love for you just grows and grows Whoa, how it grows and grows and where it's gonna stop I'm sure nobody knows. Hey, hey, hey. Nobody knows. I had to be Eddie and, and David and everybody in between. Praise the Lord.
Dr. Friesbrick
Praise the Lord. My glasses are falling off. Praise the Lord. How's everyone doing?
Takiya
Is your head shrinking?
Dr. Friesbrick
I think so. It's very. And I really don't have much to share, so.
Takiya
You can't afford to lose.
Dr. Friesbrick
It's very troubling. It's very troubling.
Takiya
You can't afford to lose.
Dr. Friesbrick
All the things are too big for me. I was trying to tell Tania, like all the girlies are, you know, I've been, I'm being influenced on social media because I keep getting all these ads for wigs, right? I keep getting all these ads and I'm just like, are the meta people coming for me? Do they see me in my front facing camera as the bald headed scallywag?
Takiya
And they like, no, you don't need. Listen.
Dr. Friesbrick
I mean the, it is oppressive. They keep sending me all of the advertisements.
Takiya
Justice for the pixies wigs.
Dr. Friesbrick
And I'm, I was like, you know, I be looking at the ads like, oh, that is really nice. She looks really nice. But I Always get got because my head is so little when I put on somebody's wig.
Takiya
Let me see if I can find this girl. There's this girl online, okay? She's a Nigerian girl. She just like, she does a lot of commentary. I enjoy her for the most part, but she's got free form blocks. And when I say free form locks like, like it's a main free form lock, you know what I'm saying? So she put a video up where she was like, yo, why do you all keep asking me to. To advertise your wigs?
Dr. Friesbrick
Like.
Takiya
So she put this wig on top of these free form locks like, like a cat on top of her head. And she's like, is this what, Is this what you're looking for? Because I'm gonna just start taking your money.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Takiya
I'm gonna just start taking it like it.
Dr. Friesbrick
Let's get it done. Let's get it done. Okay.
Takiya
Why not? Why not? Because this is silly. This is silly. You don't need no damn wig. We got enough of those NASA snatche to wigs. I like the girls who can pull off the bald head scallywag look. You are one of them. I've never had a petite head. I was born with your sized head. No, I was as a newborn baby. I have your sized head dead ass. I swear. Please, this is no small feat, this here, come on. You see what I'm saying? I'm heavy on the bottom and the top.
Dr. Friesbrick
No.
Takiya
So, yeah, lots of balancing, big toes.
Dr. Friesbrick
You're out of your mind. How are you doing, sister? What's going on? Listen, have you. I mean, I don't know if you know, but I messed around, looked at the calendar today and was like, November. I mean, wow, 2025 is out of here.
Takiya
Disgusted, Disgusted.
Dr. Friesbrick
I mean, did not put her purse, never did. She walked the club under the crook of her arm, the whole.
Takiya
And she's about to exit the club and she's been here for an hour.
Dr. Friesbrick
She didn't put her keys down or nothing. It was like, hey, girls, we're here. We're just.
Takiya
You know what it's giving.
Dr. Friesbrick
I'm gonna scoot through there. Just, just a few minutes.
Takiya
She showed up to the function on time because she knew she was leaving.
Dr. Friesbrick
She had to leave early. Yes. My kind of carrying on. We gonna be on time because when I'm ready to go, I'm ready to go.
Takiya
See, mine is like, I show up late to leave early.
Dr. Friesbrick
So you show up late thinking that, like, you know, you'll get There right in time for the let out and then you'll be able to think your goodbye.
Takiya
Exactly. I showed face.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
You feel me And I wasn't there. But for 45 minutes listen, you know and it was love.
Dr. Friesbrick
I gave you a hug as I got. Absolutely.
Takiya
That's it. And I'm ready to go home and wash my face and take my clothes off period and hang them back up because I didn't wear them for what. But 45 minutes.
Dr. Friesbrick
November is almost through. December is probably going to move at just the same pace. I'm actually ready for 2025 to get her things and go.
Takiya
I am.
Dr. Friesbrick
I'm good. I'm good with her leaving.
Takiya
I am too. I am too.
Dr. Friesbrick
I am.
Takiya
Honestly girl, I didn't like you that much. Your personality kind of sucked. Like I don't.
Dr. Friesbrick
You came here just ripping things up. I mean I feel like we were doing okay. You know what I'm saying? You came 2025.
Takiya
You're not a girl's girl.
Dr. Friesbrick
You know. Stir up something. You know what I'm saying?
Takiya
Just you really. Yeah. You came to be messy. Very very Mona Scott young about the situation up to no very much like.
Dr. Friesbrick
Let'S generate some chaos and turn the cameras on and just watch their mind. Let's do it.
Takiya
And I don't appreciate it. I don't know what I did to deserve this timeline of life very much but I don't appreciate it. And if you have beef I wish you just say that.
Dr. Friesbrick
I mean if you got a problem say it to my face.
Takiya
I'm down for communication.
Dr. Friesbrick
Any place.
Takiya
This was unnecessary is what this was. This was a necessary.
Dr. Friesbrick
Absolutely.
Takiya
Oh she's Taylor Swift is what she.
Dr. Friesbrick
But we made it. But we made it. Even through her hateful behind. We made it and I'm grateful and and I know that it's one of our favorite it's one of our signature episodes this this week sis. We're excited because you know it's getting girls favorite things. Okay. We are not open win free so we're not giving away anything freely. How single solitary this and how please. I want to be very clear.
Takiya
I want you to manage your expectations from top.
Dr. Friesbrick
We will be sharing the things and the brands that we have been supporting all year long. My list is. Is pretty much all black women owned if not black owned. I'm pretty. I'm sure we're. This is where we are. We're still you know saying it with our wallets and our bank accounts. We're saying it with our chest. This Is another form of resistance is being very particular and purposeful about where we spend. And so as I was curating my list this year, I was very intentional around supporting black owned and women owned brands.
Takiya
Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dr. Friesbrick
They're not a lot of big heavy major retailers on this list. I think they're none on mine. And of course I got some books.
Takiya
In there, but I don't have one single solitary retailer on here. No mention. Y' all don't need shit. First of all, let's be very clear. Once upon a time and statute limitations are up. So I enjoyed stealing from you all because you want for nothing. You want for nothing. You know what I mean? It's pure greed. So that was reparations. Big box stores, guard your, guard your lloyds.
Dr. Friesbrick
Oh my word. Not just playing.
Takiya
I'm just playing in case you want a partner. I'm about to say shots. The sponsors this show, what are they going to do? Not support me because I stole from Claire's when I was 13? Like please, please, please. Woo. The icing don't even exist no more.
Dr. Friesbrick
So. Oh my God. Remember the icing? I was thinking about the icing other day. I was thinking about Baker's the other day.
Takiya
Bakers.
Dr. Friesbrick
I was thinking about Bakers. I was think contempo casuals. You know about the.
Takiya
Now let me tell you where I was never able to shop but for tops 579.
Dr. Friesbrick
Same. I was about to say you and I both.
Takiya
Yeah.
Dr. Friesbrick
I never got a bottom of nothing out out of 579. I was not even. Not even. It wasn't until Charlotte R. Got those like 100%. They were pretty much jeggings. It wasn't until Charlotte ruse got those 100 elastic pants that I was able to get something out of there that.
Takiya
I could squeeze my of.
Dr. Friesbrick
I mean very much, very literally and almost the same for Forever 21. And you know, I'm not gonna hold you. I'm gonna get into this. When we get into my list, you know, one thing that I'm accepting, particularly some of the more popular fast fashion brands, your H and M's, your Zaras. Those girls, they have no respect for me as a woman who is both tall and hipped and booty. No, no. So I, I, I just feel like I have just moved on into brands that appreciate, you know, what I bring to the table.
Takiya
Absolutely.
Dr. Friesbrick
You know, I, you know, a lot of the things on my list will be tall girl friendly, they will be big booty girl friendly.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
As well, especially in the area of Swimsuits. Amen. The. The girls. Hello.
Takiya
Because I have a special plate. Let me tell you about my plate.
Dr. Friesbrick
All right.
Takiya
Chime in if you feel me.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes, indeed.
Takiya
I blame my father. He is the. He is the culprit for this. My mother has reminded me of this my whole entire life. So there's hippie girls, there's curvy girls. There's big ass girls.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah.
Takiya
There's tall girls. There's sometimes the intersection of many of those at once. I'm, you know, I feel like thighs.
Dr. Friesbrick
Are often left off.
Takiya
Oh, there's big side girls. Because sometimes they're small thighed girls with big asses. Sometimes.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
Girls with no ass.
Dr. Friesbrick
Hello. This is the, the math, the science, but the equation of it all.
Takiya
Let me give you another one.
Dr. Friesbrick
Okay.
Takiya
I'm repping for the high butt crack girls. My butt crack is so long.
Dr. Friesbrick
Wow.
Takiya
It's so long. It's like the longest butt crack.
Dr. Friesbrick
So it's like you have a long torso but just a butt crack. Like the length of your butt is long.
Takiya
Yeah. Because if you think about my body says no. Yeah. Okay. We're being serious. I'm not tall, but I'm not sure what either.
Dr. Friesbrick
You're not sure either. I would say you're short, but you have longer extremities. You have longer legs.
Takiya
Yeah. And torso.
Dr. Friesbrick
And torso for like, you know, someone who is your height. If you were just to look at your height, like the number, people would think that that's proportion a particular way. But you have longer torso. Read taller than you, actually.
Takiya
Exactly. Thank you. Say what it is. But what also reads taller is my butt crack. And so the low rise Jean era was a personal Middle Earth place.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah. I feel like because I've never ever. And I feel like because I on the other end of that equation, I have a super long torso.
Takiya
Yes.
Dr. Friesbrick
You do things that are not conventionally low rise on me. Hang lower because I have so much torso. And I feel like, you know, if we were to put the butt crack in that equation, you probably, you know, it's, it's more easy for that to be visible than not given sort of where the, the, the pants will fall. So. Exactly all of these things. And I feel like as we get older. Right. In your 30s and 40s, the kinds of clothes you have to buy change. Right. So you'll find yourself investing. Oh, look, Asante calling me. I call you back. Tay.
Takiya
I should text him and say she'll call you back.
Dr. Friesbrick
I'm going to the size of the, the size the kinds of the clothes you have. Me and Franique will talk about this a lot. Right. Because you know, in terms of level of investment, like, you know, in terms of investing and curating a wardrobe of things that you can use for a long period of time and using a lot of different ways, like you want to invest in like the kind of quality you'll be looking for the, your clothes to have a certain heft in terms of fabric, in terms of stitching and tailoring, in terms of. Those are the kinds of things that I feel like I'm in a season of investing in higher quality things. And so you'll often find that the price point might be a little bit higher, but it's. But in this, in this game, you really do get what you pay for, right?
Takiya
Exactly true. Exactly that. Exactly.
Dr. Friesbrick
That's the disclaimer.
Takiya
Exactly that. So we have some brands that we want to support and shout out and celebrate and remember, these are not, this is not a sponsored episode. Nobody's given us anything for this. We just want to show love, show support. It's one of our favorite times of year outside of graduation season. So we're going to go ahead and take a little break. Make sure you tune into the Patreon where you get the video version of this podcast and sometimes a little bit of additional and sometimes not. But it is the best way to support getting grown. So we're first on the list. Make sure you like, rate and subscribe. 5 stars. It always helps the girls out, you know what I'm saying? Especially in this era of boycott dei. Make sure you are liking and, and rating and subscribing and supporting and we're everywhere now. We're everywhere.
Dr. Friesbrick
We're on YouTube, we're on the Tick Tock. Hello. We are down to Instagram as always. So, and we do have, we still have a Facebook page. So, you know, come and check us out wherever you, you like to find yourself on the social media streets. Come and kick. Come sit with us. And like Jay says, the best way to support the show and we're trying to, we're trying our level best over here to keep things going.
Takiya
Guys, listen, we about to hit nine years in the game in March, so. But we're not stopping. So you know that that comes with continued support. So we're grateful for all of you. All that have been on this ride with us and will continue to be on this ride with us as we continue to make growth and transitions and, and just be better and better is getting grown. So with that being Said we're gonna take a little break. We'll come back with our favorite things.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah.
Takiya

Dr. Friesbrick
All right. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens and everything that Julie Andrews said. Chile.
Takiya
Yes. We made a version that I like. Was that Will Downing? Hold on.
Dr. Friesbrick
Of course I did.
Takiya
I think it was Will Downing who did a version of my favorite.
Dr. Friesbrick
Let me see.
Takiya
Will.
Dr. Friesbrick
Warm packages tied up with string. Huh?
Takiya
Cause his voice is a warm paper package tied up with screen. My favorite things. I would also like to hear Alexander o' Neill sing a version of that that would just give me everything that I need.
Dr. Friesbrick
There's gotta be like black people singing My favorite things. That should be a.
Takiya
Will Downing does not have a version. Is it Luther? I guess it's Luther's. I might be just be thinking of Luther's version. Raindrops.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah, he did. Yes, he did. He did. There's a whole in 1995 when he did songs.
Takiya
But yes, I think it's Luther's version.
Dr. Friesbrick
I'm actually, I think it's his Christmas album that came out in 1995 that's.
Takiya
On rotation every season in this house. Do you hear?
Dr. Friesbrick
It's about time. It's about time.
Takiya
Donnie Luther.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. The temptations.
Takiya
Temptations. Jackson 5. Mariah Brady.
Dr. Friesbrick
It's time. It's Nath Evans. Faith Evans. Yes. Boys, let's get it going.
Takiya
You know, I boycott Wanye. But also, you know, I don't see it for one year, everybody. I don't see it for though eventually because. Oh, before we get started, XD just told me today. Did you know. Do you know the light eyed devil has allegations against him now, now, which one?
Dr. Friesbrick
There are several.
Takiya
Smokey Robinson. Let me tell you something. Every time somebody has not said, well, in my spirit, Brian McKnight, you see shit came out by him and you. And he is the. The shit that keeps on giving.
Dr. Friesbrick
Canceled. I mean, like if. Wow, there's a young man on On Twitter. On Twitter. What the hell? We don't even tweet anymore. Patrick. His name is Patrick Utai or something. He plays guitar and he sings marvelously and he's been doing a lot of different covers. He recently covered One Last Cry and I made a comment that has gone viral on that post is every day someone comments and it's like, I'm gonna tell yalls kids that this is Brian because. Because the original recipe, we're not doing that anymore. Hello.
Takiya
And you know, I should have known when my cousin because, you know, my cousin went to school with Brian McKnight's original children.
Dr. Friesbrick
Original children.
Takiya
Because those children were raised in North Carolina. They were raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. And he was terrible then. So I'm not. But you, you. And then one of your children died this year. The way that you speak. Oh, what a nasty, vile creature.
Dr. Friesbrick
Just gross.
Takiya
No good is in you. No good is in you. But anyway, that's not why we're here.
Dr. Friesbrick
So where do you want to start, sister? I know in the past we have gone by like, type of thing, like whether it be like makeup and skincare, like fashion books, like. Well, you want to just hop around or. I think we hop around.
Takiya
I can just go down my list.
Dr. Friesbrick
Okay.
Takiya
Yeah, no, let's just go down. I have a couple of, you know, repeat offenders that I would love to always shout out every season. And then some. A lot of brand new things that I, I don't think have been on here. So I'm excited.
Dr. Friesbrick
Amazing.
Takiya
Okay. I want. I guess I'm gonna start off with an old faithful.
Dr. Friesbrick
All right.
Takiya
Black woman owned brand. So it's covering all the bases. That also supports other black and woman makers, primarily black makers, but also, you know, of the diaspora. And that would be the Sable Collective.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. You get all your Shanti. I have all of Shanti's old jewelry.
Takiya
Exactly. All of it. I just. Go get your. Go get your goods. She. Shanti will get you all the way. Right. She does amazing tutorials online just for like if you need fashion guides or how she's putting outfits together. And you already know she's got a dynamic personality. So I'm always going to have the Sable Collective on my list to support. Yes.
Dr. Friesbrick
What you got? I feel like it's been on the list, but not in recent years. But I have recently picked up a couple of things from this brand. It is black woman owned company by the name of Hair Brella.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
It's like your 21st century. Like swim caps, shower caps, rain scarves, Satin line. So it's all about, like, sort of the health of the hair and protecting the hair, but also, like, you know, I'm talking very high quality, like cashmere. I'm talking, like waterproof winter wraps. Like, you know how sometimes the scarves and hats can cause breakage at the nape.
Takiya
Absolutely.
Dr. Friesbrick
Because they are made of wool. So, you know, Tracy Pickett is the founder and inventor of this particular fabric and sort of engineered these products. So you have like, rain scarfs, rain hats, shower caps, and the swim cap. So the hairbrother swim cap is supposed to be like, you know, they have like this guarantee that you can swim many feet of water down into the depths and your hair will remain dry. So hair Brella. Okay. I know I only have a teaspoon of hair, but I still care about itself. Okay. And especially because my hair is. Is color treated. Right. I'm a natural blonde, but, you know, I have color treated hair. Hello. And I have to be very. I have to be very, very careful around sort of making sure that my hair is protected when I sleep. And, you know, when it's cold, I can't just throw any old hat on because, you know, it would just inch this hairline back and back and back. So I've been using the Hairbrella products, sleeping in them. And I recently got. She has some satin line beanies and things that you can wear under, like a dad hat. When I wear my getting grown dad hat, I'll wear this underneath it to protect. So I'll put the link. It is hairbrother. So shout out to Tracy Pickett. And, you know, it's been featured everywhere. It's been on the View. It's been down to, you know, all of the, you know, on all of your. Your fate, Good Morning America, Good Housekeeping. In Style magazine, Beyonce has also featured her. Oh, yeah.
Takiya
She said, I can't be messing up this coif. Sometimes I've got to make sure that it's right.
Dr. Friesbrick
Beyonce.
Takiya
I love that.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. Hey, brother.
Takiya
Let's see. Where do I want to go? Actually, our guest from last week. Yeah, I think we should do. And if I wanted to add her to the list. Jasmine of. Of Jazzy Money or Imani. Imani Studios, if you happen to be in. Some of these will be local, and then some of them are local to other areas even. But they're just, you know, they're just people we want to shout out. So Jazz again has an eyelash studio, and she is, I mean, she is good at what she does.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
I told you all when I came back and she told me, have I been hacking at my eyelashes? Like, she pays attention and understands the health of eyelashes. So if you happen to be in the New York City area, I suggest you book an appointment with Imani Money Studios and she will get you all the way right on how to take care of your eyelashes as well as lifting and tinting services. So love. Bam.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah, let's talk clothing. Since we were talking about clothing a little bit in the intro.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Some of my more favorite brands. And these are let's, let's go in the area of tall girl friendly, big booty friendly brands. Chris Cava Cavallari on Instagram has a brand called Shop Icon. I've worn a lot of their. You know, I had that denim set on Instagram a while ago. The long denim like skirt with the train. That was a Shop Icon set.
Takiya
Oh, that was very cute.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah. Remember that leather long skirt I wore when we had our getting grown? Yes, yes. That was also Shop Icon. So very high quality. And the price point on this is very good as well. So Shop Icon is the brand Char Glover. Now Char Glover used to be. She was on maybe one of the earlier seasons of Project Runway and she has a brand called Rock and Remix. Now Rock and Remix has some tall, friendly jeans and pants. I have some camo pants and some jeans from that brand. Very well made.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
High quality. And she designs for, you know, black women bodies and we love that. Olar's Grace is a Nigerian based company. But if you want to get into your a lot, remember the matching set that I had when we did Illuminated intersectionality. She has lots of matching sets like tops and.
Takiya
Oh yeah, the black, red and white one.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes, yes. I have a lot of her stuff and her slacks are some of the slacks that fit me like the most, like, you know, as far as length. And you can do custom with her, like if you send her some measurements, like if she has something on her site, you know, if you have custom measurements, particularly for those of us who have smaller waist and bigger hips, that you might fall in between sizes. You can literally send her your measurements and they can work that out for you. Yes. And the length, like she also comes in multiple inseams because, you know, so there's some of us for which are 30 and 32 inch. Inseam does nothing. So we need to go a little bit longer. And so there, you know, another black women owned brand, this one is based out of this, the UK is called the Chemist.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Very good stuff. They've been doing some pop ups. They recently had a pop up in Atlanta. I heard that they were coming to the dmv, so I'm looking forward to that. But the Chemist, they make really excellent high quality fashion. Forward trendy, like innovative clothes. Like not like nothing that you're going to see on any other rack anywhere. If you want to sort of step out, you know, and you know, really luxe fabric. She makes lots of, you know, vegan leather and you know, high quality knits. I bought. I've been buying a couple of. A couple of things from her recently and I'm really just enjoying the quality. You know, you just look like. You just look like you care. Right. You just look like you give a darn about. And we love, we love that. So the chemist, Olaf's grace and then the usual aspects like Hanifa. We love Hanifa label. Yes, yes. And Phenol. That green set that I had on in Chicago with speed Noel. I'm actually thinking about getting the black.
Takiya
One because I love Fee Noel and.
Dr. Friesbrick
She fits so well.
Takiya
She has a shop here in Brooklyn as well.
Dr. Friesbrick
Oh, so good. Those back. Those pants, they were the panty pants and they came. I got them in green, but I want to get them in black. My concern is that they're linen and like, can you wear linen in the winter time or should I just go on and get them and just have.
Takiya
You know, that's always a tricky. A linen in the wintertime is tricky because it's not technically a winter texture.
Dr. Friesbrick
Right.
Takiya
Or what textile.
Dr. Friesbrick
I mean, it's thinner.
Takiya
It's thinner. So that's the other side to it. It's like even if you don't care about fashion rules. Yeah. It's just not practical for wintertime. But I also feel like that set didn't give like linen. Linen. So like you could put a turtleneck underneath it.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah. Cause I remember I wore like shoulder thing underneath it. So. Yeah.
Takiya
You know, just a line tight or something. You can do that? You can.
Dr. Friesbrick
Absolutely. I think so. So yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna see what her Black Friday sales are giving. But that is okay. I'm. That is something that is on my wish list for sure.
Takiya
Another. Well, since we're going with a little bit of clothing.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
So there is a brand called Mac Clothing. Two Cs, M A C C clothing. It's street and gym wear, so a lot of like hoodies and sweatpants and sets and so forth. And it was created to pay homage to the designer's Father who transitioned. So I wanted to throw Mac clothing out there. MACC clothing. And it's just nice quality like hoodies and street wear that you can wear. You know, you all love to wear comfortable clothes these days. Myself included. You all is me as well. And it's, you know, the logo on it is not obnoxious. You know, it's nice. So. And I. And I love the meaning behind it. So I want to shout out Mac clothing. The she did that holiday bazaar. Renee Blewish. Shout out to Renee. Yes. Hey, this year it is December 6th here in New York and I love that she did that holiday bazaar because Renee features several black owned brands throughout and black women owned brands. There's a variety of so many different types. And the sable collective usually vins also at the she did that holiday bazaar. So I've gotten some incredible. I've gotten some purses. I've gotten incredible nail care.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah.
Takiya
You know, just good, good apothecary items. There's brands of all different sorts. So make sure you all check that out. Our old Faithful NL makeup up, of course. So our sister Nikki brows as well. Plentiful brown.
Dr. Friesbrick
That's always on my list.
Takiya
I know we have a limited selection of plentiful brows right now of what's in stock. You know the tariffs. But she is offering you all comment often on my eyebrows.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
Okay. And how incredible they are. Nikki is running a special 150 off micro shading services. And remember, she's located in Houston, Texas, but $150 off if you book December 1st through the 31st. So your appointment does not have to be December 1st through the 31st.
Dr. Friesbrick
Okay.
Takiya
Within that time frame to get $150 off of the service. That is an incredible deal. Let's. Oh, remember my dress I had on in Chicago, My green book dress?
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
Okay. Very black. Paying homage to. To the green book, you know, which is how we traveled for a period of time. It seems like we're heading right back into those days.
Dr. Friesbrick
Oh my God.
Takiya
There is a location here in Brooklyn called the Black Room. That is the store and the brand itself is black and ugly. Shout out to Biggie. And then she had an entire green book series. So it wasn't just the dress, but it was also. It was like a mechanic, like mechanic top almost. But it was like the cropped box fit. Get several items from there. But there's several items throughout. And you can also support online. So she does ship. You do not have to be local to the area. So that's the black Room here in Brooklyn. And the brand is black and ugly. Black and ugly as ever. However, what else you got? I can, I'll pass it on before I keep moving on.
Dr. Friesbrick
So let's go jewelry for a little bit because I'm really enjoying black women jewelry designers here lately. And one of my favorite brands, I might have mentioned them last year, but we're still, there's still a fave because they're still getting my money on a very regular basis is the Koi collective. So.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Shopkoi.com k h o I.com they are also branching into purses. So they're also featuring and available now for pre sale is a new clutch snap closure clutch bag in a lot of different colors. And these are, I mean, excellent, beautifully designed earrings and jewelry bracelets by a woman from Ghana who. Hyatt.
Takiya
Yes.
Dr. Friesbrick
I mean the pieces are just stunning. I think the, the, the earrings a lot wore all koi. Like if you saw me on the tour, it was all koi earrings. Those silver earrings I had on.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Chicago.
Takiya
Oh, I loved those.
Dr. Friesbrick
Memphis, all shop koi. And you know, she recently did a pop up too. It was a pop up in Atlanta earlier this season and she just did one last weekend here in Baltimore. But if you're looking for bangles, bracelets, bags, brooches, earrings, all I mean, beautiful artisan sculptural jewelry that is to me, I feel like, you know, there's a, there's a way when you sort of think about the bone structure and the things that are classic and signature to, you know, African ancestry. You know, I feel like these pieces accentuate all of the things. And no matter what you put on, like if you put on some shop Koi earrings, whether you're wearing a T shirt or a gown, it's the instant elevation, instant like it girl status and I love it. And, and branching out into. She has acrylic pieces, gold, silver, rose gold, but also like acrylic pieces as well. Love those. Also another black woman owned brand. I think it's based, I'm not sure, I think she might be based here in the dmv, but I know at one point she was a listener to the show. Garnished in gold is a brand and they have really funky like, I feel like this is like a funky answer to like your classic. So it's like studs but like edgy. If you want to like edge up some of the more staple like huggy earrings, cuffs, you know, chunkier bangles, rings. And these are the affordable price points. All hypoallergenic all like water resistant and beautiful mixed metals. But like, the quality is there. And to me, there's just like an edge and a specific sort of styling that's adult. Right. It's not like you're getting your stuff from. We was talking about the icing earlier. Like you could just get some costume jewelry from Claire's. No, no, no. This is something that' bit more elevated than giving auntie. Yeah, but it's like, it's like this is not your mama's costume jewelry, but this is good, you know.
Takiya
Okay, I like that. I love that.
Dr. Friesbrick
We love those. And y' all know that I'm a glasses girly, right? And so we have to, you know, I feel like especially now, you know, the glasses are a part of the look. So brands like Alisa Johnson but also be iconic.com if you're looking for like edgier black women owned, you know, stylish frames where you can, you can add your prescription if you like or if you're just looking for a frame to sort of set off your look, you know, those are the kinds of brands, those are the people that are on my list. Alisa Johnson. All these will be linked. Alisa Johnson and Be Iconic. That's a creator who sporked as a stylist and creative director for a lot of your favorite magazines and brands. And I love the messaging behind this brand because it's all about being a disruptor and being a conversation starter. It's founded by a woman named Ashley Mohamed who is a self identified self love enthusiast. I love that she's the Be Iconic is a luxury lifestyle brand and you get like signature custom designs that embody women's empowerment, self expression and most importantly, self love. The way, you know, the eyewear is sort of where the brand is sort of focused right now, but it is. These are not your everyday like Amazon frames. These are if you want to make a statement, if you want to. And I love that the names are, you know, they give like Auntie, like, you know, she has frames called like the Glorias and the Cookies. Oh, I love that. I love that, you know, Ms. Ivy and those kinds.
Takiya
Can you make one called the Women of Brewster Place? I would like that.
Dr. Friesbrick
So again, and I mean, you know, her brand has caught the attention. I feel like asap. Rocky did a bunch, did a shoot and ordered a rack of her, her glasses recently. And you know, it's just a really cool brand. She makes awesome tees. I remember my, my Michael Jackson, my little Kim icon tees. Come from the iconic. Yes. All about just elevating the icons of our time.
Takiya
I love that.
Dr. Friesbrick
Don't always get that. And then you're also using that energy to encourage you to sort of step into your own iconic era. So shout out to.
Takiya
I also have a glasses company on here. Yeah. So when I went to London, I think I shared with you all there was a location. So it is a franchise. But Pop Specs. But the Brixton location specifically is run by a black woman, a Jamaican woman. So you can also shop Pop Specs Brixton online and support her. Also very cute, cute frames. If you want something with a pop. You know what I'm saying? If you want something with a little judge, you'll see some of mine soon. I just have to finish getting my prescription put in them. So.
Dr. Friesbrick
Nice.
Takiya
She also does. She will also add your prescription if you have it. She. And you happen to be in Brixton. She will. She can do your glasses on site in an hour. Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Like photography.
Takiya
So Pop Specs, Brixton. You talked about street wearing and. And T shirts and things like that. Cashmere Thompson.
Dr. Friesbrick
Nice.
Takiya
Cashmere. That's cashmere with the K. And again, like he said, all of these will be linked, so you don't have to search. But cashmere.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
That is a dog.
Dr. Friesbrick
A bunch of stuff. Yeah.
Takiya
Oh, you have some. Some stuff from. I do.
Dr. Friesbrick
I do.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
When she was making oh, Celebration, she was making those. Remember she was making those zipper clutches. Yes, those. Those, like, yes, Yes. I. I won. She did all A Different World when she did her A Different World release.
Takiya
Her Different World set. Okay. And the. The Beyonce shirt I wore to the Beyonce concert, I got that from Cashmere. My Every nigga is a star shirt. I got that from Cashmere and Fun. And Cashmere is also one of the volunteers at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.
Dr. Friesbrick
Oh, nice.
Takiya
So Cashmere will work with me in the kitchen. She does workshops, shops with the boys. She's also a licensed esthetician, so sometimes she'll make shea butters and lotions and moisturizers with them, and then sometimes she will do art with them. So I think she's so awesome and I want to continue to support her. And she has amazing Black line. She's got Cash Money line. She did a Beyonce line, but don't tell nobody. She did A Different World line. She's got all kinds of things up there. And she recently illustrated Roy Wood Jr. Memoir. She illustrated the COVID of Roy Woods Jr. S memoir. So shout out to Cashmere She's a sweetheart. She's an amazing human being. She's a talented artist. So she's definitely on here.

Takiya
If you all are looking to judge your durag collection.
Dr. Friesbrick
Okay. Okay, period.
Takiya
There's a company by the name of M and J M N J Creative Durags. My homegirl keeps her son stocked with these do rags. They have a beautiful shade of like nudes and do rags. And I just think it's awesome that there's an entire. There's anime durags. If your kids or yourself is into that rose silk, like judge your do rags the same way that you judge anything else. You can judge your durag with M and J Durags. There's also a black owned lingerie company here in Brooklyn called Iris Lingerie Brooklyn and they have a store opening in 2025 which is really awesome. But you can look at their products online. Beautiful, beautiful, tasteful lingerie. And you know, we deserve to be sexy. We deserve to be sexy. We deserve to be, to be demure. You know what I'm saying? They have nice robes and bras and all kinds of things on there as well. Let's see what else? Oh, an affordable luxury watches. So okay, you know I'm not a huge watch person all the time, but I think it's important to have brands when I want to watch. You know, when you want one, you want one.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes, yes.
Takiya
And my, my homegirl year old son and all of his homeboys love this line of watches. So it's line out watches dot com. Okay. And it is affordable luxury watches which I think is really dope. So you've got gold, you've got different colors, men's collections, women's collection, his and hers. But they're really beautiful pieces. So I wanted to make sure they were on there too. While we're talking about jewelry and apparel, I told you all, Iris, launch lingerie, M and J creative, durags. What else you got? I mean, I'll move on to my next set of things.
Dr. Friesbrick
So, yeah, I'm gonna go into the area. So this one is a brand that I'm really excited about. I just recently learned about it as a nail girly.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
This is a young lady by the name of Crystal. She has a brand called nail. Yeah, I love that. Y-E A H.com Nellyeah.com and so, so Crystal works as a manicurist, an artist, and, you know, she's a nail tech in her own right. But she also has a brand of press ons that she has been selling. So she specializes in nail art and gel nails. Okay. She's not, I think, I don't know if. I think she's based in Charlotte. I don't know that she is currently taking new clients, but she's sort of investing in, you know, building out, you know, these, manufacturing these press on nails. And so they, you know, she has really great, she has really great sets. They all have amazing names and, and that, I mean, very well done. Like, if you just like gel nails that you could literally just, you know, get your own glue and put them on at home, it really achieves the look. And I mean, I mean, awesome. I mean, very. Like y' all know how I know. But these, these are press ons that I would wear. So I, I am a big fan of, you know, this brand and I have seen, you know, the reviews online. I know she has sent them to a couple of people that I follow on Instagram, which is how I learned about her. And, you know, everyone has rave reviews. I haven't heard anybody say anything bad about these. So I will include the link if you are. They're very nicely done. And she also has like nail stickers and other sort of nail arts. If you don't want to get press ons, you can get some of these designs and carry them with you to your nail appointment and, you know, get into it that way. So I am really proud of this. I really like the concept behind it. I'm thinking about if I would have had something like this in Kobe, I probably would have made it through a little bit better.
Takiya
But yeah, you were struggling with the nails.
Dr. Friesbrick
I was struggling.
Takiya
But listen, and in this economy, if you can't make it to your appointments, you know, all willy nilly, then you've got options on how to keep your Hands together, because, you know, you already know. Let's see here what else I got on this list. I like that. No, yeah, I just looked and I like that. Their proceeds.
Dr. Friesbrick
They.
Takiya
They donate some of their proceeds. Yes, to. Hold on, I just saw it. They donate because that's very important to the National Education Alliance, I believe, is what it was. But I think that's really dope. So I love. I love a brand that's, like, good and stands for something. Speaking of which, you know, I was gonna have to. I'm gonna have a couple of brands on here, so some books, actually, that I wanted to share for you all to purchase. Same.
Dr. Friesbrick
Come on.
Takiya
Tears of the Desert by Halima Bashir. And so Tears of the Desert is about a young woman's survival in Darfur, in Sudan, which, you know, you all know. That's.
Dr. Friesbrick
That's.
Takiya
I like to hear personal stories. We read about the conflict often. You all hear about the conflict often. But we don't really get. We don't really get personal stories, stories and personal testimonies because people are in the middle of going through it. And so I want to make sure that when we're supporting businesses, we're supporting these authors as well. And so Tears of the Desert, Survival in Darfur by Halima Bashir is one, as well as Undoing Resistance by Ruba El Malik and Rima Boss. And all of these are all books about Sudan. Sudan's Unfinished Democracy by Willow Berridge, Alice Alex De Waal and Justin lynch, and A Poisonous Thorn in Our Hearts by James Copenhall. So I wanted to include all of those on the list, as well as an upcoming guest who recently released a children's book called Jito's Garden. And so by Janan Matari. And I. I think it's really beautiful to highlight the culture, you know, while we're learning about the struggles, also highlight lighting the culture. And so Jito's Garden is a really beautiful, beautiful book that allows children to understand the connection to their land and the different ways that they can connect when they are not directly on that. On that land. And Janan's been doing a lot of work around awareness of what's going on in Gaza and in Palestine. And so I wanted to include those on the list as well. What else you got on there?
Dr. Friesbrick
I've been really deep in a reading bag here lately. I think it's been another way that I have been trying to preserve my peace and be conscious of what I'm consuming out here in these media streets. So I have Been doing a bit of unplugging and really getting back into reading. And so I've just put together four of the books that are in current rotation. But I think we should, and I probably will do a better job of sort of continuing to share what I'm reading and then just have like an active reading list that I'll. We can update for the listeners. But Dr. Judith Johnson recently put out a book book called High Functioning Overcoming your hidden depression and reclaiming your joy. So it's, it's for high, it's for high functioning adults. It's. It's for the overachiever gang. Okay. And she has some really, really solid information and perspectives that really help us to sort of wrap our arms around the way in which a lot of us have leveraged achievement to cope and gotten, you know, and you know, no shame in that. Like, you know, it is what it is and it has served its purpose. But there are ways that we, a lot of that high functioning is just, you know, dressed up depression. And so she is walking us through some of the ways that we can reclaim our joy and reconnect to ourselves outside of what we produce. And I really, really been enjoying that book. I have gone back and I'm reading some of the things from grad school. I don't know, it's just been. I don't know, I don't know what is prompting it, but just in terms of just maybe it's work, maybe it's just a lot of different things. I feel like I'm having to go back to my bookshelf and one of the books that I had that sort of changed my life and outlook is Pedagogy of Hope. This is Reliving Pedagogy of the oppressed by Paulo Freire. And Pedagogy of Hope is, you know, to me it's just a bit a very thoughtful presentation around hope. And to me it's sort of been very use a useful tool for shaping sort of my perspective in times that can feel hopeless. And so it's really awesome tools and language for helping us to sort of of situate ourselves within and cultivating hope. That that fuels a praxis and, and I've been really enjoying that your purpose is calling your differences your destiny. It's a book by Dr. Darius Daniels, really for those, you know, really helpful in terms of thinking about your purpose, identifying your unique like, you know, what you were made for, the thing that God had in mind when you were like when he was designing you how to really tap in and fig what that is. And he has this really awesome framework for really getting to that and helping you to think through the things that you're about. Your unique design, your unique discontent, like what are the things that get on your nerves that can sometimes inform your purpose and then your unique destiny. So what are your dreams and the things that you hope? So all those things, thinking about those things. There's, there's awesome insight here, but there are also like some really awesome reflections that help you to really distill from as you're reading and reflect and do some sense making around what you're doing to help to, to, you know, add some shape things to apply. Yeah, I'm really enjoying the book actually just finished that up. But you know, I think it's something that I'm going to continue to reference especially now as we start to think about all the ways in which we have to continue to evolve and innovate, sort of be useful and impactful during this time. Right. We don't want to, you know, as the landscapes change, as the world change around us, what are the ways in which we are remaining agile and so that we can continue to produce useful things.
Takiya
Practical.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes, produce useful things in this moment. So that's sort of been giving me a lot of energy. And you know, I very recently at ASH this year, if I think back to one of the first books that helped me to know that the things that I was interested in, you know, that people could study that it was a book written by the brilliant one and only Beverly Daniel Tatum. She wrote a book, why Are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? Beverly Daniel Tatum was a closing speaker at ASH. Dr. Friesbrick got a chance to have like a one on one sort of Q and A with Beverly Daniels. And I got a chance to meet her and she has a new book out now called Peril and Promise. Leadership College Leadership in Turbulent Times. So Beverly Daniel Tatums went on to be the president of Mount Holyoke College for, for some time, but she had a very long tenure as a president of Spelman College. And so that has been so. Especially now given where we are, we're at a critical moment when we think about education, the educational landscape in this country. It's just an opportunity to sort of listen to her as a leader and sort of get some insight into sort of what she's thinking, what are the questions that she has, what are the things that are keeping her going in this time and how to sort of cultivate a leadership that matters. I Love that I got a chance to meet, I got a chance to meet her and take a picture with her and like the, the little, you know, 19 year old Takiya was geeking out.
Takiya
I know you were.
Dr. Friesbrick
But yeah, I got her to sign. She got, I got her to sign a new book and she also. So why are all the black kids sitting together? The cafeteria was literally written 20 years ago.
Takiya
She re.
Dr. Friesbrick
Released. Released the book. She wrote a sort of 20 year, sort of like, are they still sitting together?
Takiya
I love the way I didn't know that actually.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah, that came out. I think it came out, it came out a little while ago, but I got her to sign both of those books for me. But yeah, I am, I am just about halfway through peril and promise right now and it's just like, wow. Black Beverly Daniel Tatums was one of the first black women scholars that I, that I read that. I was like, wow, wow, I could do this. I could do this.
Takiya
Yeah. A possibility model.
Dr. Friesbrick
It was such a full circle moment.
Takiya
You know what's so awesome? I know I always tell you that I love, I love this platform we've built, this relationship, all of these things because it's, it's allowed us to enter each other's worlds in different ways. Right. And she, she's done that because I. Why are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria? I have that book. And so for me to enjoy some writings from a scholar, you know what I'm saying? It feels full circle with what we're doing here on the platform. And so I love that you have her as a possibility model and example for how you can continue to use this platform and your own to do the work that you do. Because it's important and relatable for everybody, not just academics.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah, for sure.
Takiya
Very important.
Dr. Friesbrick
And yeah, so those are the books that I'm reading. I also want to shout out a friend of mine. Her name is Jasmine Sivan. She has recently got her certification as a life coach and she has a very awesome sort of reflection, sort of self help journal for like finding your own pathway and being confident in who you are. It's called Confident in this Journal. The link will be included on the list. But y' all check out Jasmine and this awesome resource. I purchased one and I'm very excited to start leveraging it in my own sort of self, self work, especially going into the, going into the. The new year. So it is, it is designed to help you boldly step into your purpose, deepen your self belief and stay rooted in the truth of who you are. So shout out to Jasmine and y', all, y' all make sure you get the confident in this journal girl, because I got mines.
Takiya
I have just a couple of more. You know, we have to get into a little bit of self care there. So I wanted to shout out a well well house, which is a touch therapy space founded by a young lady by the name of Sabri Butler and it's located in San Antonio. And so that's welt House. W e L l t h house as.me again that will be linked in the description box. And she's providing a safe space for you to experience alchemizing touch therapy. You know, oftentimes, especially in this day and age, especially with technology and the way things have gone, we have kind of gotten away from some of those natural things that we need as human beings. Touch being one of them. And so I love that she has created a safe space for people to explore this in a way that makes it comfortable for them. And all of the work that she's doing, she's just a black. She's a black woman who gets it it. She's a black woman who is very tender. Major part of the well house commission is making massage an accessible luxury for all. So they provide 10 to 15 minute donation based massage sessions for your next nonprofit or school event. I love all of the work that they're doing and I wanted to make sure that I shouted them out and then Billie Jean Body. So Billie Jean body is also a black owned at Billie Jean J e Black male owned brand. But it's for everybody and body oils and you know, just different luxurious things for you to take care of yourself. Very cute. Very cute branding as well. Dustin actually shared this brand with me. He's the one who put me on. And you will know as soon as you. They have a me body oil.
Dr. Friesbrick
All right.
Takiya
Girl on girl body oil. Yeah. Millionaire sex.
Dr. Friesbrick
So.
Takiya
But they smell amazing. It's great packaging. It looks really beautiful. And I love the names, I love the cheekiness of it all. So I wanted to shout them out as well.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
And I think that might be it for me.
Dr. Friesbrick
I'm gonna. I'm gonna close this out. I'm gonna go with makeup really quickly because here I just have a few makeup things that I'm going to share.
Takiya
We can k. We must, we must.
Dr. Friesbrick
Favorite, favorite recent purchases. All black. All black women own. So let's start with Fenty Beauty. The bright fix instant brightening setting powder. They have all the shades. I use the Shade peach. So here's the thing. If you're a woman of a particular age, I would say if you are 40 or better, maybe even like in your late 30s, if you're sun setting your 30s and heading into your 40s, one thing that you may notice is that your under eye area starts to tell your business in terms of, of aging and sometimes powders. I think that we have to remember that like, moisture is our friend. And sometimes powders get into those creases. Get into the creases and make them really like emphasize them as opposed to conceal them. And so what I have been learning is that a lot of times we should set our under eye makeup with a pressed powder instead of a loose, or at least before we do a loose powder, because that, that formula is. Tends to do better on skin, that is.
Takiya
Okay, wait, now hold.
Dr. Friesbrick
Got a little bit more age to it.
Takiya
Okay, hold on now. Okay, so you put the concealer, right? Okay. Let me tell you what I do. I put the concealer and then I put the setting powder, the loose setting. What's that lady's name? Is it Tilbury? No. Charlotte.
Dr. Friesbrick
Is it Laura Mercier?
Takiya
Laura Mercier. Thank you. So I use the Laura Mercier setting powder. Yes. And then, you know, your other powder. What's the other powder called? Your color one.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah, the color one setting.
Takiya
You use a setting powder and then the powder, you know, your all over face powder. You know that, that.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
What's that called again?
Dr. Friesbrick
Press powder.
Takiya
So you're saying when I put the concealer, don't do the Laura Mercier.
Dr. Friesbrick
You can. I just do. So I, I take a, I take a, A powder puff.
Takiya
Uhhuh.
Dr. Friesbrick
Or a brush, you know, either, either one is fine. And I'll just take a press powder. I wish I had one in here, but I'll take a press powder with, with the, with a powder puff and I will just set that under the eyes.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Like, you know.
Takiya
Now what press powder do you use?
Dr. Friesbrick
I just. The Fenty Bright. The Fenty Beauty Bright Fix Instant Brightening. That's the one you're talking powder. So you can use that. I. I know. Let me tell you who has another one. Charlotte Tilbury also has another one that you can use. But I have really been enjoying the fenty one because they have different shades. So like, you can get the translucent one, you can get a yellow one if you, if you want it to be a little bit more golden. I use the peach one because to me the peach one has, you know, orange cancels out. So I The darkness under our eyes, it looks black, but it's really blue. Right. Okay. So, okay, if you use the orange powder, you're canceling out neutralizes it. You're neutralizing that darkness. And so I will use that. And then I might go over with a. If I really want to sort of play out that way. The translucent setting powder. Powder is like, you know, adding another layer of coverage, but the pressed powder is finer, so it is less likely to sort of set inside of the lines. Ah. And that is sort of been. If you are, especially if you are a girl who has, you know, whether your skin is dry or orally, you have to remember that the skin under your eye is very soft, very thin. And so you want to really be careful there. And in a way that we can make sure that that sort of remains smooth is you want to use a finer powder. And the loose powders can tend to be milled a little bit less than the pressed powders do. So you can make either one, really. No, it's not really.
Takiya
But I. But you know, I am where I am. You know, I have that blood in me. And so I.
Dr. Friesbrick
Well, I mean, you know, it's trial and error. It's trial and error. We have to remember that, that, you know, your makeup journey is about learning and knowing and loving your face. And so there, you know, you have to figure out what works well for you. I have just found, and it has been something that has been shared with me by several makeup artists, that pressed powders are really good for skin as you age.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Because, you know, loose powders, you know that, you know, and you like to.
Takiya
Put those in with a puff or a brush, not a bleach. Beauty blender.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. I prefer powder puffs. Okay. And brushes. It has been a very long time since I have used a beauty blender.
Takiya
But what's your reasoning?
Dr. Friesbrick
I just feel like I have more control and I feel like powder is about. You want to press it into the skin and a sponge absorbs.
Takiya
Yes. Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
The powder, the powder puff is really like it. You're just about placing it and pushing it into the skin. And I actually feel like, like the shape of it is much more conducive to the under eye area than trying to fold up a beauty blender and make it fit in there. You see what I'm saying?
Takiya
Because I have that really small beauty blender.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah.
Takiya
And I love beauty blender, also a Latino woman owned brand. Shout out to Erica. Shout out to good mom's bad choices. Because it's still Fantastic. But it's just, you know, it's good for. It's good if you want to do the. The dewy set.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes.
Takiya
You know, with the wet. I think, I think it's really good for that as well. Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah.
Takiya
Very good. Something to try.

Dr. Friesbrick
Fenty beauty is also coming for now. Y' all know when it comes to lip liners and lip products, I'm a Mac girly. I have been wearing matte Mac lip liners and things for all my life and true they stay tried and true. It it ain't broke.
Takiya
So this is.
Dr. Friesbrick
I'm not saying that I have not. I would not abandon the Mac. But if, if I had to pick a brand that I feel like is almost comparable to that sort of staple. I feel like Fenty. I think Rihanna is down to the lip liner and something serious here lady lately okay. I really am enjoying. She has a traced out long wear waterproof lip liner and I recently have picked up two shades that I very much enjoy. Oh they are cold C O A L cold blooded. Okay and okay so vine which is like a berry.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Okay. Love those. Very creamy, very long lasting. Now this is the lip liner that you could put on. You can eat. You gonna really have to scrub and get her off. But it is like it has really staple good staying power and I love the creamy consistency of it because sometimes your your lip liner, you know it can be hard to apply. This has never been a. It's been a challenge to put on so I'm really enjoying Trace out long wear Waterproof lip liner. It's a long name but it's worth it. So if you see that, go ahead and pick that up. We also know that Fenty also has the lip gloss game on lock stop. Right. Their lip glosses are giving. I mean probably the comp more comparable to like your some of our cult. Cult favorites like Ami Cole recipes. We gonna miss Amicole, you know. But you know, I think if you are OG like me and you used to put that rubber cement like Mac lip glass on your lips. We've come a long way since sister.
Takiya
Because I still have one. Hello, have one. And it's thick as.
Dr. Friesbrick
Fly trap. It gave fly trap. Anything that was near your face was stuck to your lips. I don't care. It's very true. But the Fenty beauty gloss bomb, Universal Universal lip luminizers. They are killing it both in terms of consistency and comfort and feel, but also in terms of shade. Right. So they are.
Takiya
And so they're moisturizing.
Dr. Friesbrick
Moisturizing long lasting. And I think they have really beautiful colors like the colorways exciting. So rose amber is like a cool. It's a cool like you know, sometimes everyone. There's thousands of pink lip glosses out there. Oh my God, forget about it. But all of them to me are warmer, like more peachy or, or that, that pinky, peachy glossy rose amber is more of a cool like so it to me it's more like a wintertime nude.
Takiya
Okay, so give. So what's the, what's the, the tone? What's the.
Dr. Friesbrick
So let me see.
Takiya
Because I can't always do those because sometimes they give me shiny blunt lips. You see if you feel me.
Dr. Friesbrick
Okay, it's like a cocoa brown. Okay.
Takiya
So it's not leaning purple. It's leaning more brown Oak.
Dr. Friesbrick
It's more leaning brown. And the fleck are silver more than gold. So icy. It's like a icy brownie, but it's more rosy brownie. It's not. It's still got a little pink to it.
Takiya
That's what I like.
Dr. Friesbrick
That's what I like it a lot. I like it a lot. And like you can put this on with nothing but it'll give you just a little bit of color. But it is, it is. And but if you were to pair this with that, that cold blooded liner.
Takiya
Okay, okay, okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Versus and then the other one that we love. So this one is a game changer for me and I don't know if I have it in here. I might, it might have fell out because, you know, this bag. So the other shade that we love is called Grape Splash. Grape Splash is, it's like a more. It's like a pinky, purpley, but it has these beautiful like purple and turquoise. It's like intergalactic. It's like a gloss that's like, wow, it's really something. You put it on your lips and it's like, oh my God. I did not know that it was.
Takiya
Going to do all that's where I have to be careful.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. But it, it works like, I have not seen it look bad on anybody.
Takiya
I won't look like a pale alien.
Dr. Friesbrick
I don't think so. I mean the thing is about, it's like just like if you're going to wear, wear any color on your lip, you just have to be intentional about it. So if you be intentional, it's not like if you look like you just put this on, like you just slapped it on, then that's how it's going to look. But if you like find a comparable liner, it'll be like, okay, this is a beautiful. Yeah, it's like a rich, juicy Grape Splash. Like that's what it's called, Grape Splash. It's really nice and I.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
I love, love, love it. Topicals is a black owned brand. They, they specialize in like hyperpigmentation and addressing. They have really amazing under eye patches that I love. But also they have slick salve, which is the lip balm. They have these lip balms in three different shades. Mint, acai and papaya. Acai and papaya have a little bit of a hue to it. So it's like, like, you know, it's.
Takiya
A papaya, a little orangey, peachy like.
Dr. Friesbrick
A papaya, kind of like a berry.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Now if you were to put it on, you can see it, but it's not like, it's just not od. It's just like a very slight tint to it. It really. And the mint one of course is clear. But this is just, this is like medicine. It's like when it says it's the south, if you suffer with any sort of dry lip, especially in these winter months, you put this on, it is a good sort of moisturizer that's not sticky.
Takiya
Well, let me get that.
Dr. Friesbrick
It's very pleasant. Yeah. Topicals, it's that Sephora. You know how Noah loves down to.
Takiya
The Sephora girls child, because let me tell you something, she had an allergic reaction this week to her lip smackers. Oh, no, she did. And so we had to throw out all the lip smackers because they tore her lips up. Up. Like, turn them red and have them burning. And, you know, she's got big, beautiful, full lips. So I'm like, no, girl, you can't be out here with no crusty, dusty lips. Like, that's just. I'm not gonna let you. Oh, I do have one more. I completely forgot.
Dr. Friesbrick
Oh, wait, let me finish these two. Oh, yeah, the lip bar. We know with the lip bar. Melissa Butler, the lip bar.
Takiya
Yes.
Dr. Friesbrick
I raved about all of her products. Right. Now, my favorite from the lip bar is the lip gloss called Trophy White Wife. Okay. Like, whereas Rose Amber is cool. Trophy Wife is warm. It gives, like, golden.
Takiya
Golden, yes. My type of time.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. You see that? Oh, it's like champagne. Like Goldie. You can wear this with nothing. Or you could also sort of put this on, like, if you really want to get into your 90s fine bag.
Takiya
And the lip bar is with a brown lip liner.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yeah. Yes. Now, the Lipar is doing a collab with some of our favorite influencers. I know. Janae Naylor and the news lady. I can't think of her name right now. I love her down. I'm so sorry.
Takiya
Oh, the Dominican lady.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes, the news lady. What's her name? We love her either way.
Takiya
The one with the husband.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. So the lip bar is do it. Did a big collab with the two of them, and they both have lip kits. Janae's one is called 90s fine. And it's a beautiful. I haven't ordered mine yet, but I'm going to. But it's a beautiful. It gives that beautiful boomerang, you know, brown liner. Champagne, we got. Yes. Into that very much.
Takiya
Okay.
Dr. Friesbrick
Very much into that. We love that. So the lip bar, always Danessa Myricks. Y' all know she has all of my money. Okay? Period.
Takiya
That's my moisturizer.
Dr. Friesbrick
Every tinted of it all.
Takiya
And I've been faking with my summer color. Do you hear me?
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. The blurring. I'm faking blurring bomb powder. I use her Skin Lift and Flex hydrating concealer. I use any serum skin tint, period.
Takiya
Yes. I use the Glowy do serum as well.
Dr. Friesbrick
Yes. I use. I use both. I use two.
Takiya
Yes.
Dr. Friesbrick
I'm just ridiculous. And I. She recently released her light work 7 the Freedom Makeup Palette Eyeshadows. Out of your mind. Okay. Out of your mind. Pigmented. The most beautiful, rich, beautiful colors. I said I was going to do a tutorial or something and maybe Throw it up on Patreon. I might do that this week for Thanksgiving. Okay. Okay. Because I just want to play in that palette. It is so nice. I love that.
Takiya
I want to do that.
Dr. Friesbrick
I do. And. And finally, the godmother of all black women make up, Pat McGrath. Right?
Takiya
The most genius. This.
Dr. Friesbrick
Okay, I don't know if y' all know Pat McGrath has a setting spray called Fetish Glass 001 legendary glow setting spray.
Takiya
When I tell you this right now.
Dr. Friesbrick
This setting spray, when I tell you, it just looks like you have applied. I don't know, it's like whatever. Like, it, you know, it's kind of like Fix Plus. Remember Max Fix Plus? Back in the day, we used to put that on to sort of take the powdery effect.
Takiya
Yes. Off. Yes.
Dr. Friesbrick
This skin, this setting spray levels up. Fix Plus. And like, if you were to spray your face with a little AI, like, it's literally like if you just, like, blur glass.
Takiya
Listen, I like, I was using Charlotte Tilbury setting spray.
Dr. Friesbrick
And that's good. I, I, it's great.
Takiya
No, it's great. You use it. It sets everything right, right in place. But she's a Zionist, so I'd rather support Danessa.
Dr. Friesbrick
My. No, Pat McGrath.
Takiya
I'm sorry.
Dr. Friesbrick
I love about the Pat McGrath is that it's continuous. You know, the Charlotte Tilbury is like, yes, you gotta.
Takiya
Yes.
Dr. Friesbrick
This gives, like, she gives you spots sometimes.
Takiya
Oh, I like that. I like that. That's like the Anastasia bottle. Okay, so let me get it.
Dr. Friesbrick
Morphe has a continuous spray, too, but Pat McGrath glass. The skin fetish is Glass Legendary Glow Setting Spray. Chef's Kiss. It has changed the game. I don't know that I'll use another setting spray ever again.
Takiya
Yeah, I'll be getting that. I'll be getting that. Thank you so much.
Dr. Friesbrick
That is real one size. And I heard that the one size was discontinued. Somebody told me that because one size had a powder melt, which was also like Fix plus, which was designed to sort of melt the powder and make your powder face look more like skin. I heard that they were discontinuing that, which I am sad to hear, because I really like that. Either way, this Pat McGrath is where it's at. And that's real bad. Real bad. Down to the Pat McGrath. Yeah.
Takiya
You know, I love her. I love Pat McGrath. I love her. Her mascara. Mascara is phenomenal. Yeah. No, no. Yeah.
Dr. Friesbrick
No notes.
Takiya
No, I love her.
Dr. Friesbrick
I also learned recently that, you know, she was working with Armani, so, like, Armani surprisingly has a very extensive shade Range for black and brown. And a lot of the girls have been loving the Armani formula, and we have been trying to figure out why. And it is because Pat McGrath was behind it. She was working down to Armani and getting their shade ranges and their formulas together. That's why all the black. Your black black. A lot of your black women beauty faves love Armani foundation, and it's because Pat McGrath is the brains behind it. Copy.
Takiya
Okay. Because mama, let me tell you something. She puts a lot into her science.
Dr. Friesbrick
She's a scientist. She is no innovator. She is a. I mean, she's a genius. Her and Nessa Myricks, they think about black women. All the levels and dimensions of our skin, particularly as we age. Yeah. Even Rihanna. I feel like all of Rihanna's skin care. A lot of her like her. I'm really also enjoying Rihanna's butter drops. Her, like, moisturizing products for the ashy girls. Now I'm an ashy girl. Okay. Okay. Since, you know, I've been traveling and I've been in Phoenix, I've been in Denver. Now that I know Denver was the.
Takiya
Worst skin that I've ever had in my life.
Dr. Friesbrick
And it's parched. Yeah. Two weeks and I'm still over here like. Like, please, God. Trying to get my moisture. I was sitting with the humidifier just trying to, I mean, reintroduce my skin to the moisture when Dubs came over.
Takiya
And I said, how?
Dr. Friesbrick
I don't know.
Takiya
What are you doing?
Dr. Friesbrick
I don't know how.
Takiya
She said, I oil and lotion myself up straight out the shower.
Dr. Friesbrick
Wet, wet. You have to.
Takiya
You must, you must. And I will lean. Dry.
Dr. Friesbrick
Humidifier is in the hotel room.
Takiya
Oh, that's insane. Oh, wow. Okay. Okay. That was also the first time I went somewhere and said, I can't breathe.
Dr. Friesbrick
Too. Like, it's very much like your body is accustomed to having humidity in the area and you don't get it. It's like, wait a minute.
Takiya
Yeah, I hit.
Dr. Friesbrick
I felt it immediately.
Takiya
I was like, but beautiful, beautiful, beautiful views. Gorgeous gowns there in Denver.
Dr. Friesbrick
Gorgeous gowns there.
Takiya
Gorgeous gowns.
Dr. Friesbrick
But yes, I think that's it. Do you have another?
Takiya
Yes, I have one more that I completely forgot. For the self care, you know, and also for you to take care of yourself internally, externally. Organic herbs and teas, herb powders, tinctures and tonics, hair and skin snacks. The Napoli Natural Apothecary. So you can purchase online@napolinaturals.com and get all of the. All of the Things for you to take care of yourself. Whole black seed, black walnut, red clover blossom. Like all of the herbs for you to really do the things that you need to do. They carry the majority of those. Your chamomile, your sarsaparilla. I really love that you can get everything from there. They have again they've got hair and skin care as well with different shea butters, BlackBerry kiss from a rose. You know I love most rose scented things. Lemongrass. So shop the napolinaturals.comapothecary that will also be linked in the description box for sure. And I think that's it. We, I'm. I'm glad that we, we got some brand new ones on the list this year. I love discovering all of these new black brands. I love to share them with you all. We love to share them with you all. Some of them have been shared as well. You know, just so we can continue to, to spread the love during this time. You know, holiday time is key capitalist season. But yeah, you know what I'm saying, we're not capitalists because nobody here is. Is a millionaire.
Dr. Friesbrick
Nobody.
Takiya
Well, let me say. Well, one person was. But that's okay. That's all right. It's all right. For the most part. We are not capitalists. By wanting to support our community, we're just pouring our dollars back into our community. People have to sustain themselves. This is the world that we live in. And so therefore we want to make sure if we are recycling these dollars dollars we're putting them into our own community. So that's why this is one of our favorite times of the year and we wanted to share all of this with you all and we're gonna leave the episode right here. We're not gonna do any petty peeves, we're not gonna do any self cares. I think this was self care enough.
Dr. Friesbrick
Happy holiday.
Takiya
You know, it's a holiday week, you know, about to eat some, some ham, some dressing and some greens.
Dr. Friesbrick
Come on.
Takiya
So like you know, we ready, we're ready to, to take our socks off and put our feet up and watch television and eat food and loved on our loved ones and be in community. So that's what we're gonna focus on.
Dr. Friesbrick
I love that. Let's do it.
Takiya
We love you all and thank you all for supporting us every single week here. Getting grown and you know, tuning into some of these amazing conversations. Shout out to all of our guests that we've had in the last quarter. A couple of amazing guests coming up to close our year out. And I'm looking forward to the new year because 2025 can get the fuck. You know what I'm saying? Like she can get the fuck. You didn't want to be right here. We didn't want you here, sister. So you could just go on about your merry way. I wish you well, please.
Dr. Friesbrick
God bless you. I wish you well.
Takiya
But since take us out and tell us and tell them what to do.
Dr. Friesbrick
Absolutely. Make sure that you guys are taking care of yourselves. Moisturizing your mind. And you keep your mind moist by attending to the business that is yours and yours alone. Okay? Don't be out here letting people get their mess on you. Okay?
Takiya
That's it.
Dr. Friesbrick
Don't take this their problems home. When you can worry about yourself. Keep your own mental moisturized. That's it. You also want to make sure that you're moisturizing your insides by drinking just as much water as your body can sustain every day. Day. Okay. Drink your water every day. It's really the fountain of health and wealth is water. Make sure that you're drinking water every day. And you also want to moisturize your skin and stay out of Denver. Just kidding, but just kidding. No shade to our Denver friends. We love y'.
Takiya
All. Just playing.
Dr. Friesbrick
But it's. It's dry over there. Y' all know that. Either way, moisturizing your skin whether you're going to Denver or not. Because your plaque will crack if it's dry. We love y'. All. We love you. Bye. Grateful for you. Bye, Tata. Hey, Fidelity. How can I remember to invest every month?
