Kia
praises the Lord.
Jade
Do you know the song? Do you know the song?
Kia
I did recognize. It took me a while, but I finally got.
Jade
Yeah, that's fair. That's fair. This time
Kia
I was like, where are we going?
Jade
Oh, yeah. No, it was like Jay does Stevie Wonder does Zappin Rogers does cameo.
Kia
Because you threw me off with the Uncle Bobby. I did.
Jade
Well, hello, Uncle Jade. Hello,
Kia
Amazing.
Jade
I. And you know why I say, do you know why I sang that?
Kia
No.
Jade
Because Steven is releasing his first album in. I don't even know. What's the last time. Hold on, let me look. Hold on. Let's see. I don't know if it was characters in Square Circle. 1985. Let's see. Oh, 22 years. His first album in 22 years is called through the Eyes of Wonder. And for every shady who sent me a comment in regards to the title of that album, you could all go to hell. I'm talking about the ones I know personally. No, you don't. You should see the amount of Messages I got from. From ignorant. I know who are like that can see. Why is it called through the eyes. I'm like, get away.
Kia
Because he's trolling us all. That's what he's doing.
Jade
He has been. He has been. I told you, remember, he took Ray Charles to the bathroom and it was like, hey now. Hey now. Hey.
Kia
Yes. Well, I did not know that. I have been under a rock, but I'm very glad to hear that, Steven. This is. This is like huge news. I don't know where I was, but I'm very excited about this, sister.
Jade
You know, I stay under a rock, a moist one, but Antoinette sent it to me and that's how I come on. Because when your people love you, they love you hard.
Kia
That's right.
Jade
So 22 years. 2027 is the year we are getting a brand new Stevie album.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
And I'm really exc. Credit for it. I. I can't wait to see how this comes to fruition.
Kia
Very pressed. I am very, very impressed. Very excited.
Jade
I will be on if I can have a really honest conversation with you, you know?
Kia
Yes, I do.
Jade
You know, our faves sometimes, you know, when they start releasing new music again after a period of time sometimes, you know, I do be a little nervous. Let's just stay in the place where we. But I'm like, you know what? Everybody deserves to create.
Kia
Especially he's.
Jade
If Steven ain't nothing, Steve Lynn ain't nothing else. He is a tried and true artist.
Kia
You're right about it.
Jade
And so you deserve to continue to create. And it's a beautiful example for the youth.
Kia
Absolutely.
Jade
That it never. That you never stop creating also. So I had to get out of my. My bitchy, you know, hole of like.
Kia
I was like, are we sure we want. Is this.
Jade
I know, I know I did. That was my first thought. But no, I'm leaning in. I'm choosing to lean in.
Kia
I'm excited. You know, we're to. Yes. We're going to choose to have good, high hopes and expectations for this.
Jade
Exactly.
Kia
We're going to believe for the best. And I believe that we're going to get what we believe we're going to get. I do.
Jade
I believe when I fall in love with you, it will be forever. Okay. That one's recognizable anyway. How you feeling?
Kia
I'm all right, sister. I'm all right. I'm safe. I have what I need and I'm just doing the best that I can. You know, it's another week, another work travel week full. Full of Events and things, but, you know, I'm making it through. You know, I don't have any complaints. Yesterday was my mom's birthday.
Jade
We're celebrating birthday to me.
Kia
Yeah. Yes. Big rhyme.
Jade
What did she do for her birthday?
Kia
Stone cold Steve. Rhonda. Well, so in the immediate, she's going out to dinner this evening with my aunt, and I'm gonna probably. We're gonna spend some time next month. She told me that she wanted to go on vacation. I'm like, where you wanna go, Mom? Okay. Drum roll.
Jade
Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Kia
No, well, that would actually not be surprising, actually. And to be fair, I don't mind Gatlinburg because that is the home of Dollywood. Dollywood is actually a really good time.
Jade
I want to go to Dollywood. I just. Tennessee.
Kia
Yeah. Totally fair. But Rhonda was like, I want to go on vacation. I said, okay, girl, where you want to go? And I'm thinking, okay. I know. I'm just. Yeah. She said, I want to go to Myrtle Beach.
Jade
I'm trying to go to the Grand Prix.
Kia
All right.
Narrator/Advertiser
Okay.
Jade
Do it big Rhonda. She said, I'm doing my big one. We're going to Myrtle Beach. I said, I'll come, girl. We could go down. Many a family. A family road trip to Myrtle Beach. Listen, you know what I'm saying? We have definitely gone and. And had ourselves a time on the boardwalk.
Kia
Yes. You know, I can't hate on. On. I can't hate. I can't hate on the doll. That's what she want to do. That's what we gonna find our way to do. We're gonna make it happen.
Jade
Gonna make it happen for you all, so. Yeah.
Kia
But. Yeah, I'm doing all right. How are you doing? How was your week, darling?
Jade
You know, it was just ever so packed. We're wrapping up our summer. Our summer series with the high school girls, and they will be recording their podcasts on Monday. I'm very excited.
Kia
Very exciting time.
Jade
Yesterday they recorded, and it's being edited.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Released at the end of the week. So I'm really excited for that. They're thoughtful. Like, they're such thoughtful, thoughtful young ladies.
Kia
I'm so excited by this.
Jade
And, you know, they make me feel mighty real.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
So I'm. I'm having a good time with them, and it's been a lot of that in Noah and, you know, prepping for our little family vacation.
Kia
Yes, yes. Yes.
Jade
Just. Just, you know, lots of recording to make up for. For being.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
For just.
Kia
We're doing what we need to do.
Narrator/Advertiser
We.
Jade
You know, we're doing the best we can with what we got, sister. Are we not? We are, but. Yeah, I'm all right. How are you?
Kia
Yeah, yeah, we're good.
Narrator/Advertiser
We're good. We're good. We're good.
Kia
We're good. And I'm excited because we're gonna have a good, light, fun show. You know, we have it. We're gonna play a game. We haven't played a game in a little while.
Jade
I'm so excited. I have a question for you really quickly.
Kia
Sure.
Jade
Is the air bumping in your house? Are you in Y N mode? You've got a sweatshirt on in July.
Kia
To be completely honest, it is actually not as warm here today as it has been in the past. I wouldn't say it's cool. I feel like we're just getting a respite. We're getting a comfortable respite, and I'll be. I had to go this morning. I had an early appointment to get my nails done, and when I left the house, it was just 60 degrees, so I put on this sweatshirt. This sweatshirt is courtesy of our friend, the hoochie historian. Do you see my hoochie sweatshirt?
Jade
Yes, cousin. Oh, I've got to get me a hoo. Oh, I've gotta get one. Oh, wait a minute. Where's my phone? Phone immediately.
Kia
I got this, and I also got the hoochie mama. I got a hoochie mama shirt. And I told her, I said, I'm gonna wear this Vacation Bible school.
Jade
Give the girls a stir. Listen, church girl. Okay.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Drop it down low or whatever Beyonce say to you all. Historian.
Kia
Yes. So I, Hoochie Khan, go to hoochicon.com and get your things. We got to have. Yeah, we got to have Zorine back to the show. Okay. She said she would come back with us, so we're going to. I'm gonna reach out to her and see if we can get happen. But, yeah, this morning when I left the house, it was only like, 62 degrees, so I just put on a sweatshirt and some leggings, and I've just been sitting here at my desk, and, you know, it's not like I'm not hot, so I've just been sitting in one spot. So I haven't been outside traipsing about in 85 degrees with this sweatshirt. I'm just in my home with it on.
Jade
Okay. No, that's fair. And also to your point, last night I stepped outside and I said, I know we're not getting that fall?
Kia
No, that.
Jade
That. That fall. Like, little. You know, that little bit of turn that you get. Yeah, it almost felt like that. It was a crisp.
Kia
There's a crisp to the air, though. When I left that this morning, I said, oh, I got to get something. I got to get something from my arms. That's why,
Jade
before it's time to have that.
Kia
You know what I'm saying?
Jade
We just got summer.
Kia
You just. We just got summer. But I do feel like it has been, like, really super hot. So I was a little appreciative of a little. I feel like we're getting just a bit of a respite, but I think we're going to be back in the 90s at the end of the week, so.
Jade
In the 90s.
Kia
Wasn't too pressed about it. I wasn't too pressed.
Jade
I'm getting a Hoochie Con logo T shirt.
Kia
Absolutely. Absolutely.
Jade
Because ain't nothing but a hoochie mama.
Kia
Hoochie mama. Hoochie mama. Yeah.
Jade
Okay, well, yes, we're gonna have a nice light show today, guys, because we deserve. Do we not?
Kia
Oh, yes, quickly, let me read this right quick. Since before we get into our. Oh, yes, I have to stand corrected. Okay. I. I can acknowledge when I have made a bit of an oversight. And so one of our community members reached out to alert me that they had, in fact, gotten their graduation announcement in ahead of the deadline, but we must have overlooked it. And so I want to read the announcements, a really quick one. And this will absolutely be the last one. So if I had missed yours, I'm just gonna have to say my bad, and I'll make it up to you some other kind of way. But we gonna.
Jade
You just remind us at the next
Kia
season, and we do apologize. There's just a lot that comes in, and sometimes in sorting the inbox, I can, you know, you know, forgive me and my millennial eyes. Okay. Auntie's doing the best that she can.
Jade
Y' all know my braid is soup.
Kia
Yes. I'm going to read this one really quickly, and then we'll jump right into our game. She writes, hey, Dr. Kia and Chef J. I love y' all and the ways you both celebrate the people during graduation season. This year, I get to write in about me. I graduated from Westchester University of Pennsylvania with an EdD in Educational Policy, Planning and Administration with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. She graduated on May 9, 2026. She says my dissertation is titled Am I Not Bubbly Enough? An Endarkened Narrative Inquiry into the Lives Literacies and teacher identity construction of black women pre service teachers at a predominantly white institution. Ooh. Yes, it's a mouthful, but I'm super proud of the work I put in and the contributions I hope to make to the field. Kia, I cited you in my lit review. Oh, yay. Come on, Robinson. Oh, my God, I love that.
Jade
I love it.
Kia
I've included a picture of me in my non wrinkled regalia. Very nice. Because I know better. And that is signed Dr. Alicia Benjamin. Dr. Benjamin, congratulations. And I'm sorry that I lost your email, but I'm proud of you first.
Jade
Yes. Congratulations, Dr. Benjamin.
Kia
I love that look.
Jade
You bring a whole new meeting to. It's all about the Benjamins, right? Because we've got to find things and rebrand them.
Kia
That's right.
Jade
Shout out to you congratulations and apologies again for everything that we. We're doing our best, but we absolutely, we absolutely love celebrating you all. And, you know, I'm glad we were able to catch that.
Kia
Absolutely. Thank you for your patience. So let's get onto the kitchen table and play this good old game. All right. I'm a millennial, and I have millennial eyes. I've been nearsighted all my life, but the older that I get, my glasses need glasses, if you know what I mean. And so I'm on the cusp of bifoc. So my go between is to wear my contacts, but wear readers when I need to use the computer or when I need to, you know, do some written work or reading work. And I have really found what I needed as Zini optical. Even in 2026, replacing glasses feels like a whole production. So most of us just live with it. You've got to schedule an appointment, pay a fortune, and then wait. Zini Optical fixes all of that. Zinni is an online eyewear shop. Prescription glasses, sunglasses, blue light glasses, reading glasses. Starting at under $30. You go to zinni.com, pick a frame, upload your prescription, and they ship it to your door. No appointment, no store, no upsell at the counter. And at that price, something kind of shifts you stop asking, do I really need these new glasses? And you start asking, why wouldn't I just get them and get all the pairs to match? All the things. You're not agonizing over one pair that has to do everything for the next two years. You can get the ones for work, you can get fun ones. You can get the pair that only matches certain outfits at under $30. You don't have to justify it over 150,000 five star reviews. And if you've never bought glasses online before, Zinni has a virtual try on so you can actually see how each frame looks on your face before you commit. I love my readers. They have become a staple part of my signature look. Okay, y' all know I'm an academic and I love to give that look, but I also can't actually see. Zinni offers a wide range of glasses. Your prescription glasses, but they also offer a wide range of readers and that's exactly what I got. I hope you get what you need to if your glasses are overdue for a refresh, now's the time. Go to zinni.com podcast and use podcast 15 for 15% off your first order. The style sell out, so don't sit on it. That's Z-E-N-N-I.com podcast promo code podcast15.

Kia
Creamy Caesar sauce sounds extra crispy.
Jade
Caesar sauce at McDonald's for a limited time. All right, it's time for the kitchen table now. You know, Insecure. We've discussed Insecure at different turns.
Kia
Oh, yeah.
Jade
And different twists. You know, our almost 10 years of being on the air together. Oh, my God, I can't believe it's about to hit a full decade, isn't it? And you know, that's crazy. And Insecure started 10 years ago, actually.
Kia
Wow.
Jade
During their 10 year anniversary, which is.
Kia
Yeah, I heard they're doing a tour. Very exciting.
Jade
Yes.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
They are doing a tour. You know, there's been much discourse around the tour.
Kia
Really? Again? Under a rock. What are the girls upset about? Are they upset?
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
Well, dear.
Jade
All right, so listen, I'm gonna have this conversation as. Okay, neutrally as possible, all right? You know what I'm saying? Because it's not me, it's not you. So.
Kia
Yeah, I don't know anything.
Jade
So we're celebrating the 10 years of Insecure, right? You know, insecure. Insecure. Issa is such a possibility model. I gotta give her credit. I gotta give her a big, big props for sure.
Kia
For an OG Awkward.
Jade
An o. Og, Right. And it's beautiful to see her trajectory from awkward black girl from when we were all on the Internet.
Kia
You know what I'm saying? Early YouTube.
Jade
She has really all the way up her way to the spot that she got to give her that and minded her business while doing so has kept the game. Grown model.
Kia
We stand full time. Yeah. And rooting for everybody Black, please.
Jade
Yes. For most everybody black. So, boy, Amanda Diva is. Was not invited to the reunion tour. Right. I guess they're having different cast members come. She wasn't invited to the tour. And she has been vocal about feeling disrespected. Yes. Not a surprise, you know, about not being invited to the tour.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
So here's my thing. Right, Sister. You know, at this stage of my life, really, always. You know how I am.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
But at this stage of my life, especially, I don't want to be anywhere.
Kia
That's right.
Jade
That same nobody. Don't want me to be at.
Kia
You don't have to act like you don't want me to be there.
Jade
You don't exactly.
Kia
You don't have to insinuate that you don't want me to be there.
Narrator/Advertiser
No.
Jade
And. And when I say that, I mean, there's an asterisk. Right. There's footnotes. Obviously, there are places where you may not want me there. I need to be there. But if it's yours, you know what I'm saying? If it's yours and you don't want me there, why would I want to be somewhere, something that is yours? You don't want me there, and I don't want to be there.
Kia
Correct.
Jade
And so, you know, there's been discourse around. Well, does she. Does she. Does she want the invitation? So she could have just declined it?
Kia
I mean, we know. You know, there's been static, like, historically, there has been lots of static there. And I think it's okay for her to say, I would have liked to. Been invited. I would have liked to come. Like, you know, those things can be true.
Jade
I think just saying that transparently.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Is fair. Is fair.
Kia
Yeah, I think that's fair. I think that's.
Jade
It was something you were.
Kia
She was a part of the show sometimes.
Jade
Absolutely. Sometimes you sully, you know, sometimes ends on a sully note, and it feels like it kind of messes up the experience. But there are beautiful things, and, you know, you're grateful for where it's taking you in certain aspects of your life or your career, whatever that particular thing is. I don't want to be nowhere that people don't want me like that and that I don't want to be.
Kia
That's right.
Jade
So. And I don't really need to make a whole hoopla.
Kia
That's right.
Jade
You know what I mean? Like, you know, trust me, there's some unsavory out there right now. Kia knows that I am sincerely and deeply invalidly irritated with.
Kia
Correct.
Jade
And I still don't want to be in. I. I will be in a space with you in which you. That is not your space. You know what I'm saying? And so anyway, I'm not giving that too much more. That's just kind of the update for you.
Kia
I appreciate that because that was totally.
Jade
Yeah. And that's cool. You can go do any deep dives that you would like to do.
Kia
Right.
Jade
But as for now, Google.
Kia
Yes. We're just.
Jade
I'm going to.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Tokyo Drift.
Kia
Very direction.
Jade
We're playing.
Kia
We're playing the card game.
Jade
Huh? I'm hella awkward. We might need it once before, but I found it in our game box. And I said, this feels appropriate, you know, for the celebration of, you know, a black staple in television.
Kia
Absolutely.
Jade
For our generation. That really did a beautiful thing. Yeah. And so I thought we could use it as a catalyst for this game. Hella awkward. And so it is. People you know, stories you don't. The categories are real talk. Get into these fields. Get acquainted. Dating. How to find out if BAE is the real deal. I really so curious about that. Sex. The only way to ensure a happy ending. Our relationships. We guarantee bonds will be tested. Where would you like to start? Beloved. Which category do you wanna. Okay, I'm just gonna pull.
Kia
Yeah. I mean, surprise me. I mean, we can answer the ones that are, I mean, applicable. Certain of them are not applicable.
Jade
All right.
Kia
In this. In this. Praise God.
Jade
Not that there's anything wrong with any of them.
Kia
That's right.
Jade
Because y' all have been on Kev on stage's page.
Kia
Relax.
Jade
And he's a lot nicer than I would be to you. Calling him all kinds of everything but a child of God. Because he said it's natural for to touch themselves, is it not? And somebody made you feel like it was wrong, and now you're projecting that on to everybody else and questioning their spirituality and their faith. Because your thinking is askew. Go sit on the couch.
Kia
Anything is your thinking right. Everyone has the right to think what
Jade
they want to think. Sometimes you be wrong. Sorry.
Kia
Everybody got the right.
Jade
But sometimes you'll be wrong.
Kia
And I have the right to think that you're wrong. Wrong. That's right.
Jade
Yeah, I do. Yeah. And you got the right to think I'm wrong, too. Like this hellion heathen. And I'd be like, well, guess what? I'm about to press the button. So get over. Oh, my God. Anyway, what did Taraji end up saying? That's the button. Push the button.
Kia
Press the button.
Jade
I'm gonna flick the bean. Are you gonna have a conniption? Anyway, press the button Is good to me. Okay, let's go. I'm gonna go from the middle of the yellow.
Kia
Okay.
Jade
Real talk. How many times have you been in love?
Kia
I don't think I have. I'm going to say this very like, carefully. But I, I do not believe that I have. I think as I, the older I get and the clearer I become about what love really means. And I will tell you that I'm learning that the most through really understanding, like, what love of God and love of self, as you know what I'm saying? Like, as a commandment of God. Right. Because God says, love your neighbor as yourself, which means you gotta love yourself first before you can love your neighbor. So I feel like it really, really deconstructing some of the things that, that we are programmed with, like societally, culturally, and even religiously and really doing some self, like, work and reflection on my own experiences. I'm really getting clear on what love really is. And if I'm very honest about that, I don't know that I have been in love in that way. I, I, I thought I was. And if we talking about if I thought I was, I would say maybe twice I thought I was. But okay, the tr. If I really am really being honest, I don't think that I have yet. I really don't. I think that's fair outside of being in love with myself, because I totally am. I think I'm the beast. Niece.
Jade
Yes. As you should be. I would say that I have been in love so many times.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
And I'll tell you why.
Kia
Okay.
Jade
Because I have, I have, I have realized that being in love does not have to be romantic.
Kia
Oh.
Jade
And I am in love.
Kia
Yes. You're right.
Jade
People who are.
Kia
Yeah. Deeply.
Jade
Who I am. Like, very intentionally in relationship with yourself.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Crystal, you're right. Mary. I'm only thinking, like, I am in love with all of you. I date my girlfriends. That we date each other.
Kia
We talk about this all the time, but we absolutely do. And I love that. I, I do. I think it's the best.
Jade
So much. And outside of anything romantic, I'm like, no, I'm in love with you. I'm in love with these.
Kia
You're right. I really am.
Jade
You all feel myself, spirit. In a very, very, very full way.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
And in a way that, In a very special way.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yes.
Kia
And in an individual.
Jade
Everybody.
Kia
Everybody.
Jade
Everybody.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yeah.
Kia
Franqua. All of them.
Jade
Ohio. Nick. Like, I am in love with you all. Yes.
Kia
For real. For real and everything. Yes.
Jade
Siobhan.
Kia
Like, yes.
Jade
Santana. Like, I am in love with you all. And I, and listen, if I did not say your name, just please don't.
Kia
Right.
Jade
Because you already know. You know what I mean?
Kia
Come on, don't get crazy. Y'. All don't be in Here doing too much. And don't be messy. We're not being messy. We're being sincere.
Jade
It's implied. It's implied. All right.
Kia
So, yes. No.
Jade
So, yes, I would say that.
Kia
Yeah. And I, you know, and again, still doing the work. I think I. I think conventionally when we say in love, we always think romantic. But you're absolutely right if I would say I've never been in love romantically, but I have absolutely been in love and am very much in love, you know, with my sisters and with my family. Chosen family. And that is very real. And that is what feeds my soul. That's what makes me feel like me not having had that experience romantically yet, I still don't feel like I've missed out. You know what I'm saying? Like, I don't feel like I'm exactly. You know, I don't feel like there was one. There was a romantic relationship that did not go the way it was supposed to go. For my life. Yeah.
Jade
No, like I. You. I told you yourself, like xd, when XD was moving, I was filled with
Kia
sweetness in a way that I didn't
Jade
think I could have.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
You know. You know, and so. And even when we see each other, we hug. Like we.
Kia
All of us, girl.
Jade
Listen, I'm still not over anything.
Kia
When I left New York,
Jade
like, I just.
Kia
Yeah, it.
Jade
It. You know, it hits your spirit in a very different way. So now in love romantically, I'd say. I'd say once viably. Where I'm at right now.
Kia
That's it, Vi. That's all.
Jade
And that is where, you know, in love is. Is. Is. Is a big umbrella of things that.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Not things you will tolerate for sure. You tolerate, you know, like humane things.
Kia
I was talking to Toya. Speaking of, like, viable. I was talking to Toya. We was talking about how, like, what is the term for when fall off your credit report? Like, you know, how after seven years you get a clean slate.
Jade
Oh, what's the dnc? DNC do not count.
Kia
Yeah. What's the term for dnc? What's the term for. I mean, that. That o.
Jade
Actually the quant.
Kia
Yeah, like the time, you know, like, what's the term? Like we. Like that might say we dated, but no, we didn't.
Jade
I think seven years, like a couple years. Why not just give it the same.
Kia
Give it the same falling off to.
Jade
In love with you too, by the way. Absolutely.
Kia
But y' all already know.
Jade
But yes. Listen, have been jealous of.
Kia
To people have. Have expressed their disdain at I. And,
Jade
oh, you know, I'm like, listen,
Kia
you're in a relationship with Toya. You goddamn right I am.
Jade
Too cliche, nigga.
Kia
Hello.
Jade
Two bitches. You nigger. I friendly now.
Kia
And you better do better.
Jade
Hello. Right. Get on her level. Like, don't get. Like, get right or get left.
Kia
The standard has been set. You.
Jade
I'm just. The bar is here, period, and you
Kia
have not met it. You see what I'm saying?
Jade
No. So you got something to live up to, nigga. Look.
Kia
Growth.
Jade
What is that?
Kia
What is that?
Jade
That you can attain growth. I don't even know what we were talking about.
Kia
We were talking. Okay. We were talking about viability, viable love, and how niggas fall off your credit score. Off. Accurate.
Jade
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think seven years is appropriate. I feel like seven years.
Kia
And that's also.
Jade
Which means completion, which means I got one to go in my period.
Kia
And of course. And by that estimation, I. I am solidly at zero, as I surmise.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yeah.
Jade
Virgin. A virgin for the very first time. Not that that matters. Young. Listen. You. Them.
Kia
No. Yeah, you.
Jade
Because if somebody ask you that out the gate, it's a problem. I mean, listen, don't think too deeply.
Kia
Just let it ride.
Jade
No, they think very deeply. I'm realizing. I'm like, whoa, I'm the problem. About the things that they shouldn't be
Kia
deep thinking deeply about the things that you should be thinking deeply about. You don't.
Jade
I'm like, whoa, lighten up, sis.
Kia
And then y' all be turning yourselves in knots and bows. About things that you shouldn't be so worried.
Jade
Knots and knots. Look, I was up emailing one of. One of the students last night, and I was. And I. She had asked me a slew of questions because she's going to do some work this weekend. And one. And then one of the things I put last to her, I said, listen, don't overthink this. Yeah, okay. That's sitting there. I was like, just. Just be where you are with this. Ask the things that come to your spirit plan. I was like, I think your outline is great. Yeah. But do not overthink it. I was like, we can edit things.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
I was like, we can switch things up. I like to put things in narration. So just make sure that you enjoy the experience.
Kia
Absolutely. Come on. You better mold these young lives, Jade. I see.
Jade
Well, I'll be trying. I want them to, you know, I hope they walk away and say, yo, I was with this. This lady was a little bit foul, but she was all Right. Because I'd be cussing in that class. I try.
Kia
Period. You know, we all loved our teachers that used to cuss in front of us. You know, we thought that they were the bee's knees. Okay. It was very much like, I love him. My bad.
Jade
So I hope, you know, they. They can hear one thing and not unhear it.
Kia
Yeah.
Narrator/Advertiser
All right.
Jade
I'm gonna go from relationships. That was from real talk. We can use it. Real talk, period. Huh. Okay. This could be with anybody. I guess it doesn't have to be romantic.
Kia
Okay.
Jade
What have you sacrificed for your relationship?
Kia
I have sacrificed whatever relationship. My ego for relationship. Right. I have sacrificed. Wanted to be right. You know what I'm saying? And this is very important to me because, you know, I like to be right. I don't like. Not to the extent where I'm not willing to be wrong, but I do take pride in knowing things. You know what I'm saying?
Narrator/Advertiser
Yeah.
Kia
But I have recognized that in relationship. You know, any relationship, romantic, platonic, professional. Okay. You have to learn how to choose your battles. In the way where it's like, now I know you need this more than I like, you know, like, you know, I'm gonna let you have this because you need this. God bless your heart, and I will let you have this.
Narrator/Advertiser
Right.
Kia
You know, it's not. You know, and so I have definitely sacrificed my ego. I have apologized when I didn't feel like. Well, I felt like I. You know what I'm saying? You know, when you have to apologize and you feel like you're owed the apology, but you want to be the bigger person, I have reached out. You know what I'm saying? So in those instances, I'm thinking about the times when, if I had my way or if I was. If I was just letting my ego do the talking, I would not apologize. I would not reach out. I would not. So, yeah, I think I have absolutely sacrificed my ego for. To. To. Because. Because a relationship was that valuable to me that it was. You know, it felt like the. It felt like something that I needed to do, and I did it.
Jade
I think that's a. That's a really good. That's a good one, because you do sacri. You should. There are times when you. There are times you gotta sacrifice that ego. Yeah.
Kia
But there are times when you. When you just. You know what I'm saying? And that's the growth. Okay. That's the way you really know.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
Because. And I have.
Jade
And sometimes it's a mirror. It's just a mirror. You don't want to see. You know what I mean? And that's what relationship should be for you. You should be mirrors for each other.
Kia
For sure.
Jade
That's a good one. I. What have I sacrificed if I'm just gonna get real. Real just plain with it? What's the word? I don't know the word I can think of right now, but you know, there's. I want to do in my home.
Kia
Consideration, compromise.
Jade
I'm not compromised.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
I'm not sacrificing. You get well, no.
Kia
Yeah, you're compromising. You're sacrificing what you want or your preference maybe.
Jade
Yeah. For the opinion of another.
Kia
Yeah, yeah. Fair.
Jade
Fair and willing to meet.
Kia
I'm willing to meet halfway.
Jade
There are times where I've been like, why can't you just be one of those passive who don't have an opinion? And then I would be able to, like, really just do what I want.
Kia
Yes, absolutely.
Jade
I realize, I'm like, if you had that person, if he had that personality, you would hate it in every other aspect. Every other. So in a. In a cohabitation space, you know, I've had to sacrifice that. Like, maybe that's also ego.
Kia
Yeah, that's real, though.
Jade
Maybe that's also ego. And the compromise is when we get our own home, the bigger home, we say we'll each have our own room and then we'll have a room together.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
And that way I can have the room and I can do what I want with my room for sure.
Kia
And, you know, I read a statistic that people who have been in partnership for a long time, whether that's marriage or just sort of like just in committed relationship or partnership, the thing that they say holds them together the most is their own space. Like not having to be up underneath each other all of the time. That's.
Jade
It's really a game changerly. Ralph had it right.
Kia
Yeah. That's the prototype, baby. Okay.
Jade
I mean, that didn't go across the street from your house.
Kia
You know how my house is set up, sis. I have always felt like, you know, like, you know, four, four or five floor townhouse. Right. I feel like one of us should have the bottom unit, one of us should have the top. Now we can have that middle layer
Jade
as a communal where that kitchen and. Yeah, that. That deep. Virginia, I know which one you're.
Kia
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, I feel like we'll have that communal space, but like, I got a house and you got a house.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
And we got a debt and we got a deck. We got. We got spaces where we come together.
Jade
Yeah, but, you know, kitchen.
Kia
Yeah. Keisha laughs at me. Keisha laughs at me often. Because she'd be like, you got. You got clothes in every closet in that house. I'd be like, yeah, because this my house.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
What. Why wouldn't I? I live here.
Jade
Don't nobody live here but me.
Kia
She'd be like, well, what if somebody move in there? Well, he gonna have to have his own closets. His own closet somewhere else.
Jade
You're gonna have to bring them. I don't know.
Kia
That's right. We can build it. You understand? Okay. As I pay every penny of that mortgage. Each penny, each you.
Jade
And this in compromise.
Kia
That's it.
Jade
Compromise period. Yes. Okay. All right. Let's do. Let's come from. Okay, we'll go for dating.
Narrator/Advertiser
Okay.
Jade
So I can't get all obscure with it, I guess. All right.
Kia
All right.
Jade
Let's see what the cards. Ask. According to your friends, are your dating standards too low, too high, or just right?
Kia
According. What do you say? You tell me.
Jade
Nah, according. No, you. What do you think?
Kia
We think. Okay. I'm thinking about Crystal immediately, because Crystal feels like I have. Crystal and I have discussed from time to time how she believes that I'm asking too much by expecting the Lord to grant me a tall man. And I have another. I have my work. My work. One of my work besties. Her name is also Latoya. She also feels like you cannot expect him to be all of these things and tall. I do not agree. I do not agree. I do not agree with that. And so by that estimation, you know, those two friends might say my standards are too high. I think that I. I think, personally, I think I'm very reasonable. But I have been told in the past that I should not expect. Not that I shouldn't expect, but I should not shy or not entertain men who are not tall. So here's what I will say today.
Jade
Oh, my God.
Kia
I have said this before.
Jade
4.
Kia
And I will continue to say that at 5 foot 10, I'm the shortest person in my family. Okay? And so do you understand how that might inform my mental model? About. About, like. You know what I'm saying? Like, yeah, it's like in your.
Jade
It's in green. It's like your epigenetics.
Kia
You can't help. I did not. I did not know that I was a tall person until I got to college, but because I was around tall people all the time, so I just thought we were normal. And I remember distinctly calling my mom my freshman year in college and saying, ma, why didn't you tell me that we was big as hell, huh? Everybody around here is like five foot and that's it. What is going on? And so of course she told me to get off her phone with that foolishness. But all of that to say this is like, you know, this has shaped my understanding in the way that I see the world like since I was very young. So now that some like, you know, recognizing that, you know, there are like, but people. Well, recognizing that being tall is like not something that is super common apparently, which I still have some discomfort with saying. But, but recognizing that that is what other people are saying to me, I guess. You know, people think that it's completely ridiculous for me to expect a man to be at least six three. But yeah, I just want you, I think that standard because that way I can, I cannot be relegated to air max for the rest of my life.
Jade
But here's my question to you though. What happens if like I get it. Short come with short tropes. That's right. Right.
Kia
Correct.
Jade
I know you're probably, you've probably been asked this 100 times. Well, this time on a microphone. So what happens if you find you a short king who's very sure of himself and he's not pigeon toed and he. Or knock Knee is or Dr. Hello Spike. Sorry, that was, it was a low blow. I couldn't help myself that my Jesus today. Little legs.
Kia
Yeah, they're gonna be like, yeah, your status are too high, Kia. You can't have, you can't be knocking.
Jade
What happens if you have a come in and he's a short, but he's like very, he's loving you. So this is the right way, Johnny Kill like what.
Kia
This is what I have said, right? And I have, you know, I've spoken to God with this about this at length. I've spoken.
Jade
Stimulates your intellect as well as your loins. You know what I'm saying?
Kia
You know what I'm saying? This is what I'm saying. So I have told the Lord that if this is what he has for me, he's going to have to let me know personal, okay? Meaning I will have to wake up one morning to find the Lord sitting at the edge of my bed saying, takiya, this is the Lord,
Jade
okay?
Kia
And this is the man.
Narrator/Advertiser
He will.
Kia
I would have to know for sure that that's the one God sent and that like I'm telling you that I would, like the Lord would Have to literally say, takia, hey, this is the Lord. And that's how I will know. I'm not saying that he won't say that. I'm hoping that.
Jade
Okay.
Kia
But if he does, that's all I ask, is that I would need that kind of indication. He would have to make that apparent to me now.
Jade
How's he showing up?
Kia
Like, I would have to.
Narrator/Advertiser
Literally.
Kia
You would have to come to me. I would have to hear him very clearly. It will have. Who? It would have to be like.
Jade
You'd have to be like, oh, Lord, Yeah.
Kia
It would have to be like, yeah, Takiya, this is God speaking. Oh, what's up? Yeah.
Jade
Like, what if he came in, like, a tall tee and, like, some joyous.
Kia
The Lord would not send that to me. This is what I'm saying. I don't believe that. I believe that I serve a guy who knows them franchise well. What? The Lord made me. He made me this way. That's why y' all be. I'm like, he. He made me. He programmed this way.
Jade
What if he sells heads up, though, and shows up in a durag? That's all I'm saying. Like, what if he's like, I'm not a monolith? Like, you all have dated me in these garbs. Again, I'm just wondering.
Kia
Again, this. I mean, and that goes for any. Any sort of standard or expectation that I have, not just height. Like, there are other things. Right. If it would have. If it does not come packaged in the way that I would prefer, I would just need to know specifically. And I'm saying this because I have bent my rules before. You see what I'm saying? This is not somebody saying. I have never done these things. I have tried.
Jade
Oh, no. Yes, you have.
Kia
I have tried. I have given.
Jade
That leads me to my next question.
Kia
Okay.
Jade
Between you and I.
Kia
Okay.
Jade
Do you think. I think your standards are too low or have been too low or too high or just.
Kia
I think you would say that they have been too low, but I hope that you would say they are no longer too low.
Jade
That's exactly what I would say.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yes.
Jade
Yeah, I would. Because I, you know, we've had many conversations.
Kia
She has observed it. I'm like, at cloak proxy point blank range. She has seen it.
Jade
And I'm not quiet. I'm not an intrusive friend. I've grown and do what they do.
Kia
Are you certain about this? Is this something that you are sure of? Look at me in my face and tell me.
Jade
Tell me what you like, run me Down. Run me down the list real quick. Like make me believe.
Kia
Yes, there has been. Has been a bit of campaigning that has had to happen in the past, but no longer. No longer. I have no doub out of that. I have.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
And delivered.
Jade
Yeah. Yes. And I've watched you do it. It's been beautiful because it's like you're a bad. You know what I'm saying? I'm like, I like. Damn, you're. You're tall. You've got these insane cheekbones that look like you talk about the Lord coming and sitting on the foot of your bed. That setting up on your face or something. Because you've got these cheekbones. I mean that in the cleanest way possible. Like your head is the right size for your hair. Like everybody can't wear that. I can't wear that hair. You know what I'm saying? I got a Poland Spring bottle head. I can't wear that bald head. So you've got like. You look like you've been touched, you know what I'm saying? By an angel. Dela Reese.
Narrator/Advertiser
Come on.
Jade
And it's not just your physical then. You're a doctor. You study policy change for black and brown children. Higher education.
Kia
You went to school for 9 million years. That's right.
Jade
You know what I'm saying? You can sing like a better dance. Like that's all I'm saying.
Kia
And I. Anyway, I see what I'm saying. You see. So this is why. Okay. But I would say, I would hope to say for things like height, I would say that, you know, Crystal and them. I say that my standards are a bit too high but not unreasonable. Right. But either way, I would hope that all of my friends would say that at this juncture in my life, I feel like my standards are appropriate.
Jade
Yes, I. Now I would. As the. You know, the tiny little troll under the bridge that lives in me does want a short man to come and sweep you off of your feet. I do. I just.
Kia
That would have to be a very big room. It would have to be a major street sweeping. Sweet.
Jade
All I'm saying, sometimes I'm short. Niggas got three legs.
Kia
Crazy.
Jade
Let's move on to this next. Speaking of, that's a great transition into the next one. Sex. Pull from the pile.
Kia

Nude Picks Yay or nay?
Kia
Sending or receiving?
Jade
I don't know. You answer this however you want to.
Kia
I guess I'll be honest. I don't need a nude. I don't send a nude. I mean, I have sent one out of obligation because nudes have been important to the person that I was relating with at the time. But it is not something that I've. I have enjoyed. I've done it because. Okay, I know that's what they like, but I. I don't. I don't. It's not something that I feel like that is a priority for me personally. And maybe, you know, these are the kinds of things that I say that this. How I know I haven't really been in love for real, because I haven't liked nobody that bad.
Jade
Yeah. I. I say. I say yay. With. With deep asterisks. Right. You know what I'm saying? With footnotes. It's like you need to be very safe with that person. Absolutely. You know what I'm saying? This is a part of a grander scheme of play and things like that. For sure. Like, you know, I. It just. It needs to come with a. With a. With some. Some good safety.
Narrator/Advertiser
With.
Kia
Safety is the word.
Jade
So not. Not young. Because I already gave Noah to speech. I was like, like, if a ever asks you to send pictures of your titties or your. She's like, no, no. The Internet is forever.
Kia
Absolutely not.
Jade
Don't do it. I know. I'm that mother.
Kia
Yeah. You have to be. You have to be.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
And say. And don't be telling this. And tell them that you don't want no pictures of none of their stuff neither. Okay.
Jade
Yeah. Yeah. Keep your little junk eater, please. What y' all choose to do later on under safe circumstances, talk about that when the time is right. But as far as sending your things across the Internet, that's my Internet send.
Kia
That's the AIM sound. Was it the. The remember, was it the email. The AOL email sound?
Jade
That is the ABE sound. Okay, let's do one more from each.
Kia
And I say that with no judgment, because I don't have a judgment. You know, I know that the people are into nudes and I celebrate that. If that's something that you enjoy and
Jade
in any way fashion, no kick shaming whatsoever.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
That's why I said just under safe circumstances.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
That's it. Long as you feel safe with the person. You feel like they're a safe person.
Kia
Absolutely.
Jade
And they're worthy of respect receiving that. You know what I mean? So. All right, we'll do. Yes. One more from each and then. Okay, we can play this another time. I like this game.
Kia
Same.
Jade
I love these convers. We played the same variation of the same.
Kia
Yes. It's okay though.
Jade
Or different.
Kia
All fun.
Jade
Oh, tell us about the best birthday you've ever had.
Kia
I would have to say the best Birthday I've ever had was in Antigua. We went for my 40th. Yes. Best birthday I've ever had. I think about that. When we were on the catamaran and I looked around and I was just like, wow, this is so good. Like, my niggas in this blue water is really what I've been missing.
Jade
That was a fabulous birthday.
Kia
It was so good. And it was really like, I learned a lesson because, you know, my trauma from prior years of, you know, my birthday being canceled for weather or people not being able to show up because they had other obligations that conditioned me to stop asking or expecting my friends and loved ones to show up when I asked them to. But I asked you niggas, and you niggas really came. So it was kind of like a love you. All you have to do is. You know what I'm saying? Like, all you have to do is put it out there. And, you know, the people who can't come can. And the people who can't. Like, that's okay. But the people who are supposed to be there will be there, and that's what's up. Yes.
Jade
Yes. Oh, I love that. Yeah. Your 40th was great. Your 40th was absolutely.
Kia
Me and Bobby keep talking about, we got to go back to that. That resort because the food I.
Jade
The food was so good. Bobby always tells me, he goes, you changed my life.
Kia
No, Yo, Jay did. That was a game changer because Jay was the one who encouraged us to really take full advantage of the all year you can eat aspect of the all you can eat at a resort.
Jade
Hello. First of all, shout out to my grandma, Maddie Mae. You're the real one, period. Because she took. She was buffet queen.
Kia
Absolutely. We was in there ordering all of the entrees. I would take the f. The. The. The fish, the chicken and the beef, please. Thank you.
Jade
I'm paying for this. And you will.
Kia
I'm paying so much for this. I would like to take.
Jade
And I'm not wasting. Wasteful. No, I'm not wasteful or an. I think I. We'd become great friends with the staff by the end of the. Of the trip. To the point. I told you all that lady brought me my own bottle of pepper sauce.
Kia
It was so good. And they enjoyed us. I thought that they was going to judge us, but the staff was like, that's what you supposed to do, girl.
Jade
Yeah, eat up this. They were like, yes. Yeah. I was like, but I want all three of the entrees. Yes. But Toya's face Kia's face, Bobby. Everybody was like, wait. And I was like.
Kia
Like, the lights came on. We all was like, oh. I mean, they can't tell us. No. Hello. Oh, we could. Wow.
Jade
Do you want the chicken, the fish or the steak? Yes.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
I would like medium rare, please. Please read each one one at a time. Yeah. I'm also stealing your birthday. That was. That was fantastic. That was one of my favorite.
Kia
Such a. Such a good one. No, you have to. What is your best birthday? Yours?
Jade
Ooh. Oh, it's my best birthday. I don't know if it was my best, but it was definitely one of the more memorable ones. So I loved my 40th birthday because my friends flew to me. We did to like y' all flew to me. And we literally celebrated in a true. Just like house party fashion. It was exactly what I wanted. Now, my most memorable birthday. I don't know what birthday it was, but I still. We call it the full moon show because it was a full moon outside. And Antoinette and Angie shout out to. And you remember you can buy her jewelry. Ariane's jewelry. Yes, that Angie. My excursion queens this love and activity. So they planned this outing at this bar that was supposed to be this like mystic. I'm not a Harry Potter person, but it's like a mystic type of make your own cocktails. Obviously that was the. That was the reason why they chose it. But then, like, you know, it was in this mystic setting and whatever we get there and it's this Harry Potter. And it was so much fun because it was so chaotic and it was some bar in like the financial district.
Kia
Oh, my God. And Crystal probably would have got their entire life.
Jade
They would have. It was not Harry Potter theme, but it felt. They had us put on a cloak. It had the balls. And the kept being like, this is not what I thought it was Jaden. I was like, I'm having a great time. This is insane. And I'm having a good time. Then we went back to my house and it was. And. And. And Kit was in town. You can check out her page on YouTube. Bonnie Scotch. She discusses all of the reality television. Anyway, so K. All of us are Dusty, Dustin, everybody. This is the last time I did shrooms recreationally. And so after that, it was only intentional as we came back to the house and we dish rooms and ordered Popeyes. It was like the best Popeyes. Oh, yes.
Kia
You know, I love a Popeye.
Jade
This mystic cocktail night and can laughed and I remember like Nakomi pulled out Noah's guitar and tuned her Toy guitar and then played it and we were laughing so hard as we were crying. And so. So at this point we call it the Full Moon Show. I think that might have been the first time Crystal Dis maybe. I don't remember. Anyway, it was a good time and it was a mess. And so yes, the Full Moon show is probably one of my more memorable good times also. 911, 2001 cuz I remember that's my birthday. That's. That's one of my most memorable birthdays. Dear Lord. All right, one more from relationships. Okay, should relationships be easy?
Kia
Not easy? I feel like they should be easeful. I do not think they should be easy because I think that there are great lessons and like revelation and insight that comes from, you know, going through complex things that may feel difficult at the time, working through that, it stretches you, it makes you better. It makes you a better communicator. It makes you like you say, it's a mirror that reflects back at you. It helps you see yourself and gives you different perspective. So no, I won't say that they should be easy. I say that they should be easeful. Because when something is easeful, like it is not something that is that, that cost like it's labor in the sense that you. It should not feel hard. Relationships, like they should have it very naturally, very organic, organically, shouldn't feel forced. There should be an ease and an enjoyment to relationship. So I would say relationships should be easy, not necessarily easy.
Jade
Yes, I like that actually, because also they're not going to be easy when you have humans of different backgrounds, experiences and different emotional, you know, expressions and, and levels of sensitivities and how they receive things and all sorts of things. So I agree with you though. But when we get to challenging times, times, we should be able to discuss that.
Kia
Yeah, work through it.
Jade
Yeah, work. Yeah, I like that.
Kia
Yeah. And I mean, you know, it's real life. You know, everybody in a relationship, there are going to be days and times and experiences where you have hard feelings or you're gonna have to communicate through differences of opinions or differences of perspective. And you got to learn how to do that and speak up for yourself, but also hear like, you know, those are the things that make you a better friend, a better, you know, person in relationship. But yeah, Eden's full, I think is where I want to be. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I was like, no relationship should feel like this is. It shouldn't be this hard. Like, you know, you've been in a relationship with people, you'd be like, I have just never worked so hard to be somebody's friend in my life. Like, you know, or. I've never worked so hard.
Jade
Yes.
Kia
You know what I'm saying? Like, this person just doesn't understand me. They don't get me. They don't like me. Okay. They don't like me. And that might just be it. I have had that realization many times. Wow. They just don't like me. Because everything. Yeah. It shouldn't be this hard.
Jade
I agree with you. I agree with you on that. All right, Dating one more from dating. Rank these in order of priority. Lord Jesus. Personality, looks and money. Wow. I'm screaming.
Kia
This is difficult.
Jade
Hella awkward.
Kia
This is difficult. This is difficult. This is difficult. I feel like, wow. They have their. Wow. That's.
Jade
I don't know.
Kia
Okay, so let me think about this. Because I feel like whatever is. I don't. I don't want to say, like, I feel like whatever's going to be last on the list. That is not to say that it is not important to me. Me.
Jade
Yeah, no, absolutely. First of all, that just. That list being so short.
Kia
All of these things are required. You see what I'm saying?
Narrator/Advertiser
Yeah.
Kia
All of these things are requirements. Requirements. Each one. All of them. Money, looks and personality. You got to have all of that. Okay.
Jade
All of that.
Kia
You cannot. Not two out of three. All three. Got to be all three. Okay? So.
Jade
Oh, and it's gotta, like, for me, the money is not. It don't have to be the overt like you.
Kia
Yeah. Cause I can take care of my big shot, but I also am like,
Jade
do you have health insurance for me?
Kia
You know what I'm saying?
Jade
Like, something. Something that is really.
Kia
If, if, if, like, I can take care of myself and I'm always gonna be able to take care of myself. And I thank God for that. Like, you know what I'm saying?
Jade
Like, I always have, always will.
Kia
Always have, always will.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yeah.
Kia
But that is not to say, okay. I'm not trying to be nobody, sugar mama. I'm not trying to.
Jade
Hey, boy, I'm not buying you no shorts.
Kia
Ain't
Narrator/Advertiser
anyway.
Kia
I am not big mama. Please know that deep down in your bones. I'm not. I'm not.
Jade
You're like little mama, no kids.
Kia
Little mama, no kid. Very little. It's a very little mama. Okay, so. Okay. But I also.
Jade
I mean, I'm sorry.
Kia
I feel like. Okay, here's the thing. I would say. I feel like the right answer is personality is. Is important. Right? Because, you know, I feel like that should be chief among.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
Because I want to like you as a person. I need to be. Yeah. You know, I need to, I need to care about you as a person. We have to have a connection. I have to enjoy you and spending time with you. There has to be companionship there. So I feel like it's important for me to say that that personality is at the top now. I want to reiterate that all three are necessary. I know I keep saying that, but I'm probably gonna say you got to have all three. Okay.
Jade
Yes.
Kia
I think after personality,
Jade
Because you already went on this tall tirade earlier, you know what I'm saying? So you might as well bring it home. What's. Would you rather them have more money or be tall?
Kia
My God, I serve a God of both. And the God that I serve is able to do both. And I want to state that for the record. Let me see though, All things considered, that this person has got to, you know, I got to be safe. I got to, I got to, you know, like I said, person. I got to really vibe with you as a person. We have to be aligned, like, value wise, all of those things. Holding at a constant. The part of me wants to say. This is difficult. I just. Oh, Lord. I don't. I just, I just. Now, when we say money, do we mean, like, like, how much money are we talking?
Jade
How much money are you talking? What's the requirement? I think this is a self. You have to, you have to self. I'm stomping with the Kia in the mirror.
Kia
Well, I feel like. So this is the thing. I'm struggling because I don't want to be, like, fiscally dependent on anybody.
Jade
Okay.
Kia
That's not something that I'm looking for. I want someone who, who, who values, like, provision in that way. I want to say, you know, provision, like I, I, in that I take care of the things that are important to me and valuable to me. I want to make sure that you have everything that you need and everything that you want. I know you can get it yourself, but I want you to, I, I, as someone who cares for you this deeply, I want you to have nice things. I want you to have flexibility and freedom and, you know, is that what
Jade
the girlies call soft life independence?
Kia
I don't know. Because, you know, you know, I do not resonate with the soft life content. It just struggle very.
Jade
I don't quite know what the barometers struggle very much.
Kia
I struggle very much in that regard. But I, I Feel like when I'm thinking about finances, what do you do?
Jade
You want to work, but you. You want to feel like you ain't got to work?
Kia
I want to work, but I want to feel like I don't got to work, but I also want to. I. I want some. When I see someone who got money, I feel like that's someone who's getting money. I could build with this person. We can build together.
Jade
Okay. Uhhuh. Uhhuh.
Kia
And, like, really have. You know, like, that's something that's valuable to the both of us.
Jade
Okay.
Kia
And we're. We're both contributing in that way. Like, both of us ambitious, both of us, you know?
Jade
Yeah. I think that's. I think that's more than fair.
Kia
Yeah, I feel the same. Yeah. I just.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
But I also, you know, I would. So. So then I would say. Then I would say personality. I'm not gonna say so, guys. I guess I'm saying that I would say personality, money, then looks. But I just. I'm not happy about this question, but I feel like this question has worried me. I am. I am worried. But, yes, I do believe that's what I would have to say.
Jade
I would probably go with the same order.
Kia
I have backed me up against the wall. You did. But I think that's what I would land at.
Jade
I would say the same. And when I say money, I do mean in the sense where I think similarly. Like, we can both bring something to the table. I'm never going to not work. I'm not, you know, I don't need to not work.
Kia
Nope. But I don't want, you know, not in that way.
Jade
Got to hold us both. Like, I would like for us to be holding each other. You know what I mean?
Narrator/Advertiser
Mean.
Kia
Correct. It's not on. It's not all on you. It's not all on me neither. Hello.
Jade
Yeah. And you're not a complacent person either. Like, you look for.
Kia
Yes.
Jade
Multiple. Not multiple streams of. Because I'm not one of those. Wake up at 5am I'm not one of those. But, you know, just. You have some sort of ambition and will for other things. Like you've. You know, you. You just. You're just interested in other things and may, if they happen, to break, bring a slightly lucrative aspect that is just a plus.
Kia
Because I. I do. You know what I'm saying?
Jade
As long as they don't take away.
Kia
Yeah. I like pleading. I'm not gonna hold you.
Jade
Hello.
Kia
I like nice things.
Jade
Yeah.
Kia
And I want to live comfortably I feel like I have worked very hard to build a life for myself, and I want you to have that same energy. Yeah. Okay. I wanna. And I want us to have the freedom to do what we want, when we want to do it. And that could look like any given thing. You know, that's not just materially. That's just like, there are. The reality is having certain. You know, having a certain level of finances does afford you choice, and that's why I feel like it does. That's why I feel like I'm. That's the type of time I'm on. That's the kind of time I'm on.
Jade
Absolutely. Buy your happiness.
Kia
That's why I never said that. I ain't never said money don't buy. I ain't never said that.
Jade
I'm like, h, I. I can think of a laundry list of issues right now that money would solve. What
Kia
it. It'll buy you comfort, though.
Jade
H. Hello.
Kia
This is what I'm saying.
Jade
So all I want to do is be comfortable. I like my own little Patrick backyard.
Kia
I deserve it.
Jade
You know what? I need to buy that. A little bit of money.
Kia
That's it.
Jade
I deserve it.
Kia
I deserve to be loved. That's it. That's it.
Jade
I love how much you hated that question.
Kia
I mean, I really hated it. I mean, since you backed me up into a corner, I had to fight my way out. That. That wore me.
Jade
I am tickled by how much you hated that.
Kia
Wore out by that question. I mean, it wore me completely out.
Jade
Well, let's just continue the trend. We've got one more before we close this.
Kia
I'm gonna say I'm shallow and a gold.
Jade
First of all, you're a lady of a particular age. What the. You're supposed to be okay with a.
Kia
That's right.
Jade
You know what?
Kia
I done been broke before. I don't got to do that again.
Jade
It's like, you know, that's a choice. Come on. I have. I have passed that portion of my life.
Kia
I passed with flying color.
Jade
I did it for the time. That's not shallow. I, too, was like, I'm not going back.
Kia
What? I had to fight my way.
Jade
Y' all know. Y' all know I be on my soapbox. I'm like, what do you feel about genocides? How do you feel about. What do you think about this? You already know. And also. And also, do you have health insurance?
Kia
I want. And also, too, I want to go on vacation.
Jade
What? I'd like to go to the doctor. I'd like to go to on vacation every now and again. Is it okay? Like I don't. I don't want to be, you know, anyway. Sex. Oh, Lord. Name the top song on your essential playlist.
Kia
Oh God. I don't really have one.
Jade
Well, if you did.
Kia
Oh my God. My God, sister. You know I'm not good at this.
Jade
I know you are, but I'm just trying to get you out of your comfort zone. It's okay. Everybody has sex. Everybody's had sex and you know, it's a natural thing. So tying in Musika, what would be your top song on your playlist? If you've never had a playlist list or you can answer this one, I'll give you a B. It's not from the card. It's from the top of my head.
Kia
Oh God.
Jade
Can you think of the most awkward song you've ever had sex to?
Kia
Not awkward song, but you know how like. You know how like back in the day, like after a while, bet whip would go to like that crazy man screaming.
Jade
If y' all were mid stroke. Yep.
Kia
Christ the Lord Jesus almighty.
Jade
I can tell you my most awkward song ever that I ever had sex to was ti's rubber band man. And also wow at the. And also occurrence fun fact that one time. Well, I'm not gonna give you all that information but you know, I. It was a moment where I would, you know, I was just laying back and enjoying myself and that movie with Brittany Murphy, may she rest. Little black book was playing in the background round. And before I knew it, the whole movie was over.
Kia
I feel like you have told me this story before, Child police.
Narrator/Advertiser
Yeah,
Jade
well, that was fun. Hell, hella awkward. Is it not you? Look at you. You got all flustered.
Kia
I love it, man. You just dredging up memories. Before my credit card, my credit got cleared. Now I got a clear credit report. Now let's not revisit the fact we're
Jade
absolutely going to play this again because that was a good time and I hope you all enjoyed. Make sure you all check out Hella awkward. Play it with your friends, community. Have a good time. And let's move on to. Are we going to do a self care? Do you have a self care or. I know that's right.
Kia
Let's just get petty.

Kia
country Petty, petty petty. All the same to me playing jeans spaghetti.
Jade
All right, let's get petty. I have two petty peeps this week. The first one is very short. Okay, like my nails, pun intended. So I have little ball headed little caillou because you just have to start over.
Kia
Clean slate.
Jade
I had to start all the way over. Like I had to get them very very low. Cuz you know with me cooking and washing my hands all the time. Eventually after some years of getting your nails done, you can get moisture and then my nail bed separated from my so that's just what happened. Everything's healthy, Everything's good. We just had to start from scratch. I'm letting them breathe for a couple of months, and then I'll start them again. But I. They just look like little ballheaded babies,
Kia
you know, my second, It'd be like, girl, whose hands are these?
Jade
I don't. I was like, my father's. That's whose. My second petty peeve.
Kia
Okay?
Jade
Real petty peeve. We were gonna do this last week. I don't think we did it. So right before we recorded, did we talk about this, where Kia posted a story?
Kia
Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Jade
Did we talk about that?
Kia
I don't think we did.
Jade
Okay, so Kia posted a story, and she was promoting her latest post, I didn't know book. Make sure you go check it out. I know you did it. Go check it out. Because what a fantastic concept. And she had a song on it, because that's cool.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
And I hit her and I said, sister, did you know this is AI now? You know, then I sent her the profile of the artist. Pissed.
Kia
And I was pissed.
Jade
And it is insane. And then. But I want to take this a step further, right? Because today I go for a retwist. You know, I only get my hair done four times a year, but I go in once a quarter. They love a goss. They love once a quarter, but they love playing gospel music in there. And it cracks me up.
Narrator/Advertiser
And.
Kia
Come on.
Jade
And it. It be loud music. Yay. Today it was AI Gospel music.
Kia
Now. Now.
Jade
So that same kind of voice, I'm a phenomena.
Kia
You just heard the voice and you deduced it was AI or did you check?
Jade
I knew it.
Kia
Okay.
Jade
I, I, I heard the voice first when I messaged you, I just heard the voice. It knew.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Then I looked at the program profile, and when I looked at the profile, I was like, oh, let me send this to her right now. Yeah, but I know the voice now at this point. And I. And it's racist. It's just like those videos where they got them black girls going off in the rooms and they eating whole ribs. But you're like, where the did the bone go? And it's frightening and it's scary, but they're like, it's always this. Like, it's always that now on the song. And I'm like, this don't feel right. Don't ping my spirit right at all.
Kia
It's not right at all.
Jade
This AI music is out of control. You Timberland, Because Timberland has an AI Artist. And we should have.
Kia
Is he responsible?
Jade
He has an AI artist. Yes, he does have one. Not the one that you posted, but he has an AI. I think it's an Asian AI artist. And then. And he's like. He stands behind it and ew. Which is so insulting. But Timbaland is goofy. We saw Timberland on a boat with Elon Musk. Timberland married a lady who looked like Aaliyah. We should have known. Like, he was predatory. And it's thinking around just so many things. Anyway, that's not what I'm here for right now. I just. This AI music is getting out of control. And I don't like this. I don't like this. This stereotypical or whatever you want to call it, that this monolithic type voice y' all are putting. I don't. It just. It does not feel right to the spirit. And it feels so insulting to real artists. And I'm just. It's. I don't like it. I don't like it.
Kia
It is insulting. It is. Yeah. And I think we're just. We're just doing like. Yeah, it's a. It's a. It's a terrible time. I hate that we are here, but what can you do? I will say what I'm gonna do, since I think I'm gonna make my petty peeve. A preview of an upcoming episode we were just talking about. So Jade and I, before we started recording, we're talking about how, at the risk of sounding just like my mama, but how it feels like we are being charged more for things that are of poorer quality. Used to be a time when you was investing in a jacket. Like, let's say you want to buy a leather jacket, you have saved your coin and, you know, three, $400, you know you was getting a genuine leather jacket. Nowadays, faux leather things are four and five hundred dollars. And I just feel like, what happened. Certain brands, costume jewelry, 6, $700. This is. This is gold plated. This. This will turn green if you get it wet. And you're charging almost $1,000 for this costume jewelry. Like, girl, what is the reason?
Jade
This is not. This is not bridal jewelry. Like, what are we doing?
Kia
Reason. And I think, like, things are just. And I know the tariffs and I know. I know prices are prices, but I just kind of feel like, how did we get so far so fast that like, you know, all the fast fashion, all of these things that are like, not well made. It's really getting hard to. You want to have investment pieces like, you're Investing hundreds of dollars. You want to make sure that you're getting, you know, real raw materials and quality fabric and craftsmanship. All these vinyl bags, you know, Louis Vuitton selling goyard vinyl bags. $3,000. Like, come on, what. What is happening? What's happening? What's happening?
Jade
My grandmother used to buy from Payless.
Kia
This is what I'm saying. This is what I'm saying. And yeah, so. So we're gonna have a conversation. Jaden, I said we was going to do a show later on this, later on next month where we are going to just have some conversations about, like, the prices of things now. Maybe even do some comparisons to, like, how much stuff used to cost. And then, you know, just sort of rapid taste about me about that. But I just. I just feel like it's getting out of control. And we know that capitalism is a thing and it's going to do what it's going to do, but it's like everything, flights, all of that. Like, what?
Jade
Yeah. What's happening in the oversold capitalism and elitism, too, right? Because people cared way too much about brands and about names and about being elite in this way, to the point where brands were like, okay, cool, we'll put our brand on it, but we're gonna make it cheaper for us to make.
Kia
Are you.
Jade
Are you still gonna buy it? Yes, we're still gonna buy it because we're living in a dystopian. Weird.
Kia
Yeah.
Jade
Anyway. Yes, we're. That is an upcoming episode of Getting Grown, so stay tuned for that. Thank you all for listening to yet again. Yeah, another episode with the gills. Jade

Kia
Make sure that you are taking care of yourself and. And your mental state and keeping your mind moisturized. And, you know, the way that we do that is that we mind the business that is ours. Okay. Don't you. Y' all here worried about what some other people is doing, Girl, get somewhere and. And attend to your own business. You also want to make sure that you're moisturizing your insides by drinking just as much water as your body can sustain every day. Okay. Especially now that it's in the summer month and the world is on fire. Ain't no more ozone layer. It's hot, so make sure that you are drinking water hydrating your body. You also want to make sure that you are moisturizing your skin and protecting it with the sunscreen. Since I told you the ozone layer is a thing of the past, so moisturize your skin because your black will crack if it's dry.
Jade
That's your black cracking.
