Kirby Johnson
G L A M Los Angeles.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Hi, Kirby.
Kirby Johnson
Hi, Sarah. Welcome to Los Angeles. She's gone international. Fam. She's gone international. We have a mission here. We have the baby girl. And I'm not talking about Nicole Kidman. I'm talking about Sarah Jessica Tan Christensen.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Although we are women, women over a certain age, you can still call them baby girls. I guess.
Kirby Johnson
We're 38. I think we can still qualify as baby girls. Yes.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Okay. Okay, great.
Kirby Johnson
I love that. So let me just set the scene for you here. There is a road pop up that's been happening in la. It's at the tail end of it. By the time this goes live, it will be the last day. It's on Melrose at La Cienega. Huge, huge intersection in West Hollywood. Centrally located in la. Huge tourist spot. They have the giant glossier store on that Melrose. You can go across the street to House of cb. There's Marjorie. Right above it is Melrose Place with Alfred and the Biologique Richer Ambassador.
Sarah Tan Christensen
It's such a good location.
Kirby Johnson
Office facile. Like it's very much primo community. Primo community goods is like right down the way in front of the Pacific Design Center. So it's a really prime spot. We knew this thing was going to go off the hinges because we just are familiar.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Everyone, everyone was super excited about it. Yeah. And I feel like they haven't done something in LA in a very long time. Right. I can't remember.
Kirby Johnson
No, they have when they did the.
Sarah Tan Christensen
The coffee. Okay, okay. The photo booth. But I guess they haven't done anything of this level where it's like a proper pop up with all of the products from the brand that you can swatch and try and purchase in person.
Kirby Johnson
Right. So. And not just the products. The phone case, the compact, the bags. There's so many elements to this pop up. I just saw on TikTok, people. I mean, we made content because we went to the opening of it the night before and that has obviously performed very well, but which we will get into in A second. But the content of people just going and standing in line and explaining their experience. Millions of views. So they. They are like, road is treating everybody so great. So the line is literally down Los Angele. Like, it starts on Melrose, and it goes all the way down through that parking lot next to the Pop up, and then all the way down La Cienega. Okay.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Wow.
Kirby Johnson
Road brought people food. They had branded waters. They had branded juices. They had umbrellas for people who were standing out in the sun for too long.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Oh, yeah. And Jessica from the brand said that they even had blankets.
Kirby Johnson
Yes, they had the. The food was from businesses that were affected by the wildfires. So I thought that was very smart. Once you get into the parking lot, you get a wristband, and then from there, you turn a corner, you get a scratch off. Because a lot of people are asking me, are there freebies? And I'm like, I don't know. I went to the opening, so we. We walked away with freebies. But I don't know if that's going to be the case for everyone. So everyone gets a scratch off. And depending on what you scratch, you could get the road stickers and bumper sticker. You could get, like, a $95 value gift set of the lip shapes and lip glosses and stuff like that. So I think they're doing it really right. Like, it feels like an actual event that is going down. I mean, it is an event, but, like, it feels like a moment.
Sarah Tan Christensen
No, the team is so smart. Like, every detail, all the attention to details, they really, really thought about it. And I mean, to us, like, we're like, oh, my gosh, we just heard about this, like, a couple weeks ago. It feels like they just threw it together. But I. They have been scheming and planning. When you're in that, like, pop up inside, it's like every corner you turn, there's like a moment.
Kirby Johnson
Exactly. It's very, very beautiful. And again, you get to actually try all the products, which is, I think, the benefit to going to something like this, because you can only buy road on their dot com. For now.
Sarah Tan Christensen
For now.
Kirby Johnson
So, okay, we go to this opening event, right? Like, we waltz in there, Haley's there. Like, we knew she was going to be there. We're very excited because you all know on this podcast and maybe don't like on this podcast, but we love Haley and we have.
Sarah Tan Christensen
We like her products, too.
Kirby Johnson
Yeah, and we love her products, and we have our reasons for loving her. And if you don't, that's your prerogative but you probably podcast.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Guys, this is our opinion.
Kirby Johnson
Walk in. She looks incredible.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Oh, my God.
Kirby Johnson
She walking billboard for her products. Like, her skin is truly immaculate. It is. And, like, other people who had never met her before at this event were like, can I go up to her and say hi? I'm like, that's literally why you're here. Go up there. She's nice. Yeah. She wants to meet you. Go say hi. And then they walked away after meeting her and are like, her skin is literally perfect. I'm like, yes, exactly. So we. And we love their whole road team. All those women are so smart. They come from so many different facets of the industry. They all are just HB ics, in my opinion. And then I. Out of the corner of my eye, I'm like, you're not gonna tell me that Justin Bieber is here right now.
Sarah Tan Christensen
You're not.
Kirby Johnson
Because I am not going to be okay. Like, I just kept seeing this man with this little tiny shrunk beanie on his head, wearing sunglasses and, like, the baggiest jeans I've ever seen in my life. And Mickey Mouse shoes. The Mickey Mouse shoes were killing me. I was like, I am so obsessed with you. You don't even know. Yeah. So I'm like, I look at Haley go, is your husband here? And she's like, yeah, he's right over there. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. Like, get me away from him right now. I can't. Sarah is the complete opposite. People were telling me, this is the difference between December Capricorn and January Capricorn. I'm literally running the opposite direction to get away from him. Sarah's like, no, I'm gonna say hi. I'm like, oh, my God.
Sarah Tan Christensen
What?
Kirby Johnson
No, no, we can't do this. We can't do this.
Sarah Tan Christensen
We're messaging. Yes. I had good reason.
Kirby Johnson
Sarah had good reason.
Sarah Tan Christensen
People were messaging me like, oh, my God. I would have fainted. I can't believe you talked to him. But it's like, you guys, I've known this man, this father, since he was a literal child. Like, we have history together, but I have not seen him for 15 years. So I think if it were any other huge celebrity, I probably would have also been like, oh, my gosh. Like, I can't. But this was my moment to reconnect with him and be like, I just want you to know we have history. And I see you. And so I was like, kirby, I'm gonna go talk to him. Can you please.
Kirby Johnson
No, you didn't I did.
Sarah Tan Christensen
I asked you.
Kirby Johnson
No, you didn't. You did not. You were like, I'm gonna go. No, you did not. I'm gonna stop you right there.
Sarah Tan Christensen
You did. I did.
Kirby Johnson
I'm going. You said, I'm going to go talk to him. Will you get a picture? And I said, oh, yeah.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Okay. Okay.
Kirby Johnson
And so I literally stood in the corner, videotaped the whole thing, and then politely hopped in and said, can I get a photo of the two of you? And he said, yes. And so took a million photos and then sent them to you, which.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Okay. I also want to say I was not the only one who walked up to him. The. No, this was looking back. All of the young. Young influencers who came h. Are all believers. Like, this was like, they came for Haley, but they were dying over Justin. Like, there was this one girl. I can't even. I don't know who she was, but she was just following him around. Like, I was like, yeah, she had, like, this little white headband, and she just was, like, nonstop filming him. And a piece of me was like, okay, I get it. If this was like, you know, J.C. chase, like, you know, I probably would also be, like, dying. But, like, you're also at his wife's event, so, like, you know, act appropriately. Like, some of them were truly, like. Like, dying. Like, and then when they introduced themselves, they were, like, kept touching him and hugging him. Like, it was a lot.
Kirby Johnson
There's a video that is. Has gone viral, and people are. I think I know who you're talking about. I think it's that girl. Because people were like, why are you touching him so much? Like, it was.
Sarah Tan Christensen
It was a little. It was a.
Kirby Johnson
It was a lot. But I understood because she was so, like, she was truly, like, freaking out.
Sarah Tan Christensen
These people were, like, obsessed.
Kirby Johnson
I have always been the person that will not approach a celebrity. Like, you could not pay me if you said, I'll give you $1 million to go up to. So and so. Right now, I'd say, I'm good. I'm going to watch from afar. I'm going to send them positive thoughts and respect.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Unless you're.
Kirby Johnson
Unless you're interview. Well, if you're interviewing them, that's a different thing. I'm never going to approach anyone and ask for a photo. Like, I. Yeah, yeah. At that event, I felt like I could have, but I didn't want it to be right after you. Like, I didn't want to be like this.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Like, you needed to, like, stamp it out a little bit.
Kirby Johnson
Yes. I just wanted it to be, like, separated or whatever. And then by the time I was like, okay, let me see if he's around, he and Haley had already left. So, yes, one of these days, I will tell Justin Bieber that his ringtone. His song. Sorry, is my ringtone. Yeah, I'm not even kidding.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Like, at least. At least you told Haley so maybe deliver the message.
Kirby Johnson
So the Internet is delusional in so many facets. Like, I don't even want to get into how delusional they are, but, like, some of the comments on my videos were, like, all these people showed up to this event for Justin Bieber, first and foremost. Nobody even knew he was going to be there.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Like, no one is showing up.
Kirby Johnson
An announcement. Yeah, no, there was no announcement that he was, like, gonna be physically in his person there. No, we were all there for Haley. And we, like, Haley is for. As famous as she is. So down to earth, the most normal person. Sweet.
Sarah Tan Christensen
You guys, she came up to Kirby and me, and she is like, Kirby's biggest fan, but she literally just came up to us. We were in the middle of a conversation with someone else, and she just came up to us and she was like, hey, guys, like, wants to be just with her girls. Like, she's just, like, a nice, normal person.
Kirby Johnson
Yes. And she was taking selfies or everyone all night. It was great. But okay, so Justin Bieber's there, right?
Sarah Tan Christensen
So Justin B.
Kirby Johnson
Get this video. We get this video, we get this big fan.
Sarah Tan Christensen
I want to share. I want to share what I said to him, because some people were asking, so I said, like, hey, you probably don't remember me, but, you know, many years ago when I was. I worked at Tiger Beat and Bob magazines, and we spent a lot of time together. I did all your photo shoots, I went to your concerts, I did all your BTS stuff. And he was like, the awkward smiling or whatever. And then he was like, wow. And then he's like, well, it's nice to see you again. Like, he did not remember me, but he was very kind and said it was nice to see you again. But let's believe that he did. Let's just believe he remembered me.
Kirby Johnson
Well, I am believing it because there is now a fan edit. I am believing because there is a fan edit that has gone viral. It has 16,000 likes on TikTok. Okay, so, Sarah, this is the day after we have posted all of this shenanigans. Okay? Yeah. Like, we post this video. I. I'm like, on my Instagram stories, like, telling all of my followers, go Follow Sarah, because you're not going to believe this video that, like, we. We got, okay? It's like, incredible. And everyone's like, what are you talking? Like the. So I don't tell them, you know, what the video is. And then the minute my next slide, my very next slide is of the road pop up.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Yeah.
Kirby Johnson
Everyone's like, oh, my God, is it Justin Bieber? And I'm like, I'm not saying shit. Like, this is Sarah's to post. So that Sarah posts a video, okay? She posts this whole Instagram story being like, okay, like. But so you know the lore of all of it. Like, I worked at Tiger Beat Bop. I did all his photo shoots. Here's me with him on E. News, like, at a concert or whatever. I mean, like, they're children. They're literally children, okay?
Sarah Tan Christensen
Babies.
Kirby Johnson
So then Sarah sends this message to the group chat, and it's me, Jovi. We have a Los Angeles headquarters group chat. Me, Giovi, who is our social lead. And then Sarah, and she's like, my cousin in the Philippines sent me this, and it's like some Justin Bieber road Hailey Bieber fan account on TikTok. Let's just read. Let's read. Okay. So it's the video of her approaching him. Okay. I like, screenshotted what they wrote on this because it's so fucking funny. It says baby girl, but it's B.B. okay, B.B. girl won at life. She's the cutest. And it looks like he might remember her. And it's literally a screen recording of Sarah's Instagram story where she goes. I was like, kirby Johnson, he won't remember me, but I have to tell him. And then she filmed it because she's a real one. I was like, I am making a video about this. And now this video has gone viral of me green screening Sarah Tan's Instagram story on TikTok. Yes. And people are like, oh, my God. Like, this is okay. And so then if you read the comments, because Sarah was like, if you ever had a Tiger Beat poster of Justin Bieber with the hair swoop.
Sarah Tan Christensen
You're welcome.
Kirby Johnson
You're welcome. This was me. And all of the comments on that Justin Bieber fan account are going, girl, I did have those posters. Thank you. Oh, and this is the best part. The song playing in the background is that should be Me, which is a.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Song that play in my head a lot whenever I see moments that I think that I should be in a part of. So it's very full circle.
Kirby Johnson
I was crying.
Sarah Tan Christensen
I was crying to.
Kirby Johnson
She sent us this because I just thought it was like someone ripped, you know, the video from her Instagram story as. Because the Justin Bieber fan accounts and the Hailey Bieber fan accounts are literally the most. These people should be running the government. Honestly. I am. How did they get.
Sarah Tan Christensen
How do they find it? How do they get it so quickly?
Kirby Johnson
I know, I. It's crazy.
Sarah Tan Christensen
The reason that this particular video and interaction went so viral too is because after I posted it, one of the fan accounts posted it and then Justin Bieber posted it on his own Instagram account, which I was like, but, okay, this, this is.
Kirby Johnson
This. This is why I'm saying they should run the government. Because he posted a fan accounts ripping of your video. He didn't repost your.
Sarah Tan Christensen
No, no, no, no.
Kirby Johnson
So the fact that they found that video and then they. They posted it and then Justin Bieber posted the fan account.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Yeah.
Kirby Johnson
And then I'm like, this is bonkers. Justin Bieber fans are here to stay. They are.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Maybe they will run the government one day.
Kirby Johnson
No, I mean the government currently. I don't know. They. I don't know. I don't. They could be in their 30s at this point. Like, we don't know. Like, Justin Bieber's in his 30s.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Because I know people have their thoughts. I was like, by the way, your wife is amazing and I love her products. And then he was like, she's the best. And like, truly, genuinely, like, it was very sweet. They are in love. Leave them alone, everyone. What a time. What a week. What a week.
Kirby Johnson
International girl, Sarah Tan. I was like, this is new me covering Sarah Tan. Here we go.
Sarah Tan Christensen
We said it was the year of volume. And that continues.
Kirby Johnson
It does. It continues. Volume, body thickness. And if you recall, last year we helped K18 launch their dry shampoo innovation, which people love. We love. We use it all the time. We're obsessed with it. And our listeners were some of the first to be able to try that product and review it before it launched. So that when you went on to buy it, you could read a verified review from someone. K Teen came back and said, surprise, we have more and we want you to be a part of it. And we said, hell yeah. Hand it over. So in November, Sarah and I got a lab sample of the product we're going to talk about today. You may have heard Sarah and I tease this on the podcast a few times. I have posted it recently in a video without, obviously, as well.
Sarah Tan Christensen
And we talk about what it is.
Kirby Johnson
Yep. And now it's finally here. So please Say hello to K18's AstroLift reparative volume spray. Sarah, what is AstroLift?
Sarah Tan Christensen
Okay, so this is a product, a styling product that enhances body and bounce while repairing hair from within. Because we know K18 is all about, you know, taking care of your hair. But they are entering the styling world with this product. And here are some of the claims for AstroLift. So it delivers up to 2.5 times more volume and they have the clinicals to back that up. It actively repairs protein loss and chemical damage, making it a true two in one solution. It's got the patented K18 peptide. So that's, you know, what's working at the molecular level. It lifts hair from the roots and ensures hair stays resilient to humidity without weighing it down or leaving behind any residue. It offers long term benefits for fine aging and damage prone hair. And it provides a lightweight, touchable finish with up to two days of lasting volume.
Kirby Johnson
And Sarah and I can attest to this because we've been using it since November. I'm still working through my lab sample, which is essentially a full size of the product without the branding on it. And it's almost March, so it really does last you. You don't need a ton of it. But I would say, having played with it for a while and Sarah agrees because you can use this, this is a really big deal. Can use this on wet or dry hair.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Yep.
Kirby Johnson
So if you really want to pack a punch, I would say have clean hair and then saturate your hair at the root, holding it 4 to 6 inches away. But like, don't be sparing. I think like we're all terrified to use too much or whatever. You want to make sure that you hit all the right spots close to the root so you get that body, that fullness, that volume that you may be needing, especially if your hair is fine or aging or damaged or very, very fragile. But if you're going to use it on dry hair, you don't want to, you don't want your hair to be wet. So you do need to hold it far enough and spritz it. I love you. Shake it really well. Shake it like a salt shaker. You. I'm going to separate my bangs. I'm just going to do this right now. Life your little. Okay, little judge.
Sarah Tan Christensen
And that's it. And look at that.
Kirby Johnson
And even if it gets a little.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Wet, it dries down pretty quickly. Yeah.
Kirby Johnson
And it gives you some volume. And see, it already lifts.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Yeah.
Kirby Johnson
Beautiful Astro lift, if you will.
Sarah Tan Christensen
And it doesn't feel heavy. It's got a really nice, light scent to it.
Kirby Johnson
Yes. It's been described in the. In the group. They can't put their finger on it. Some people say it smells powdery, like Fleurs Missing person. Other people are getting clean. Other people are getting pina colada. I personally cannot figure out what this fragrance is, but it's not overpowering.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Yes. It's something very light.
Kirby Johnson
Yes. And if you don't like fragrance, I think this is tolerable.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Totally. Yes, exactly. That's how I feel about, like, fragrance styling products. And it's really. It's really nice. I actually really like it. We're going to share some of the reviews from our glams. So this is from Janelle and she says, y'all, I am sold. I'm having the best hair day of my life, and that is on day three. Hair. I really think the key is to spray in small sections, really coat both sides of the root and hit it with heat. I used my Shark Flex style round brush. So she, like Kirby, you know, suggested small sections coat both sides of the root and then you don't have to hit it with heat. But me personally as well, like, I like to use it on clean hair and I will use it get one. Giving myself a blowout and I find that it's. I really see the difference with the heat.
Kirby Johnson
Yes, I agree. Kat Kim says, so far, I'm in love with this product. I'm on my Rogaine hair journey and using the K18 air wash on top of the volumizer and everything has been working harmoniously. I've only air dried, so I can't wait to try styling and see how it turns out. For me personally, I think that the big wow factor is when you use heat when you blow dry the hair. But at the same time, like, if I need a judge because I don't wash my hair every day of the week, I love how much body and height my hair can get. This is not meant to be.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Like, this is not a mousse.
Kirby Johnson
Yes, exactly. I think some people may get it and think they're going to have, like, giant Stepford wife hair or, like 1960s bouffant hair. That's not it. It's really meant to make your hair look thicker, appear fuller, and. And have more body to it.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Yeah, like your hair, but better. I know. I hate when people say that about, like, any product is like your lips but better. You're what? But this really is, like, it's maximizing what you've got agreed.
Kirby Johnson
Caroline Duncan says my husband might be more obsessed with this than me. Lol. He keeps asking me how much it will cost because he wants to buy it. To clarify, I love it too, but my husband uses volume sprays daily and it's way better than the one. But I will say this. Caroline mentions that one is expensive. This is K18. It is going to be a beauty investment like we said last year with the dry shampoo. But I just want y'all to know I still have the same bottle of that dry shampoo that I did after I finished my lab sample. So I think I began using the actual bottle of it last May and I still have it. And I same. I'm almost done with it, but I still have it.
Sarah Tan Christensen
No, I agree. I really feel like a little goes a long way with that dry shampoo and even with this product as well. I think again, it's an investment for sure, but it will last you like, unless you're like doing your hair three times a day, which go off if you are, you know, want to use this like throughout the day to refresh your hair, but you won't have to because it lasting effects. Latia said she got hers last night and she used it in her curly hair and she got volume. She also used it on a friend with fine hair and it perked her wolf cut right up.
Kirby Johnson
Ooh, a wolf cut. Love that. Okay, so you're listening to this. It's the 25th. That's when the announcement that this product exists and is in the world will be out by K18. So we're helping to reveal that. But the product is not available exactly until March 4th, right, Sarah?
Sarah Tan Christensen
Yep. So it's available starting March 4th on k18hair.com and also sephora.com and the price is $46 for four fluid ounces.
Kirby Johnson
And Sarah and I still have our lab samples. And I mean, mine is. We've been using it since November and mine is still like, I would say more than halfway full.
Sarah Tan Christensen
Same. Same.
Kirby Johnson
Yeah. So we clearly love it. I love it. I use it in conjunction with my color Wild Dream Coat. And people. Yeah, they're like, your hair looks so thick. Yes, I do have wefts in my hair, but I love the fullness that it gives my bangs, especially when I cut my own bangs and they don't look great and I need to judge them. This is almost like a little magic trick to like, make them look more even and, and full and beautiful. And also one thing I would suggest is like when you're applying this to wet hair. Flip your head over and get the nape of your neck because it helps to really volumize the strands down here by your neck, underneath your hair where it can oftentimes look empty or like there's holes. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Sarah Tan Christensen
Totally. Yeah. Like when you learn the back of your head, guys. I always do.
Kirby Johnson
So, yes, when you learn to be on camera, you learn where holes peek through on camera. And so oftentimes you'll see people back comb that underneath area. I have not had to do that since I've been using that product. It really just helps to fill in and expand those hairs so that they look fuller. And we're big fans.
Sarah Tan Christensen
I really also just feel like when I use K18, I have, like, peace of mind because I know that even though I'm, you know, putting my hair through, like a lot of heat and styling it and all this stuff, like, it's working at the cellular level to, like, protect my hair.
Kirby Johnson
So you can go and purchase the product beginning March 4th and you can start to read Glamlino reviews. Enjoy. I hope you guys are excited because that's what we've been teasing all these months. We got this product, we tested it. We didn't have to say yes to doing this. We could have said, sorry, this didn't work for us, we don't care, whatever, but we did. And we're glad that people are going to get to try because I think it's going to be a total game changer, especially if you have thin, fine, damaged or fragile hair.
