Kirby
Hi, Kirby.
Sarah
Hi, Sarah. Welcome to Los Angeles.
Kirby
Sarah.
Sarah
Tell me why. No, tell me why.
Kirby
I know.
Sarah
Tell me why. NSync fans continue to be to suffer the lost forgotten fandom. We're sick and tired of this shit. Justin Timberlake.
Kirby
We're like the biggest fan base, arguably.
Sarah
Listen, NSYNC was the first band ever to sell 2 million records in a week in 2000.
Kirby
No. When I got that press release about the Backstreet Boys doing a residency at the Sphere, I got like. I, like, sighed.
Sarah
I'm like, yet again, something else to shove in our faces. That NSYNC won't be reuniting. We thought it was gonna be 2025. Doesn't sound like it. Justin Timberlake's on his merry way through South America, apparently on his tour, and it's still doing well through the middle of the year.
Kirby
Okay, listen, I feel like I know what's going on in the conversations. And like, everyone, especially besides Justin, is like, let's do this. Like, let's go. And then he's like, mm, I agree.
Sarah
I read that there was supposed to be an NSync biopic.
Kirby
Oh, right. Okay.
Sarah
The Hollywood Reporter did a really great story about this. There was gonna be an NSync biopic or there were discussions.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Nothing is actually happening at the moment. But part of the problem has been that all of the boys have different managers. So it comes into this thing where before they just had one manager and they all own that name.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
But now they all have five different managers. There's five different egos.
Kirby
Okay. But if Backstreet Boys can figure it out.
Sarah
But Backstreet Boys, none of the Backstreet Boys have ever had a truly successful solo career.
Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sarah
None of them.
Kirby
Yeah, none of them.
Sarah
And I have to give them credit. I was thinking about this. I was getting ready this morning. I was listening to their new song called hey, which y'all. If you're an NSync fan. You may drag me to absolute filth for saying this, but I have to stand in my truth. In terms of catalog, Backstreet Boys has the better catalog.
Kirby
Whoa.
Sarah
Their music. I. I'm sorry.
Kirby
No, I mean, I used to listen to them, too.
Sarah
Of course, they have banger after banger. NSYNC has great music. That means a lot to me.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
It's sentimental, and I have a lot of memories tied to it. But, like, if I'm here, I honestly, I would rather. Y'all are going to hate me for this. I would rather hear I want it that way or larger than life. Then bye, bye, bye. Or it's gonna be me. Maybe not it's gonna be me, but I'm just saying. I know, I know.
Kirby
But you know what? You're right. Cause my favorite NSYNC songs were never, like, the singles. They were always like, the.
Sarah
Just the track.
Kirby
Yeah. The rest of the songs.
Sarah
Yeah. There wasn't an NSYNC single that I was obsessed with.
Kirby
Yeah, yeah.
Sarah
I always. Except for this. I promise you.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Spanish version.
Kirby
The Turtlenecks Spanish version.
Sarah
I'm telling you right now. So I know I'm gonna get married when this man, JC Chazay, is singing this, I promise you, in Spanish.
Kirby
Did you hear it? Start playing.
Sarah
When I hear the guitar acoustic playing, I'm gonna look around and go, oh, my God, it's happening. It's happening. No.
Kirby
And they're like. They. They all look really good. The Backstreet Boys.
Sarah
No, they do. I'm sorry.
Kirby
They look great.
Sarah
I. Okay. I was a Kevin girl.
Kirby
I was a Kevin girl as well.
Sarah
It's the dark hair, light eyes. We both love JC And Kevin. And by the way, Kevin. Still fine.
Kirby
But arguably, Kevin was the most handsome one.
Sarah
He is the most. He's the hottest man.
Kirby
I never. Nick Carter. No. Sorry. Not for me.
Sarah
Oh.
Kirby
See? Not for me. Okay.
Sarah
So when I worked at Popsugar, he had a reality show with his wife, and he came in to do an interview. And, I mean, I got it. I got it.
Kirby
Okay, Okay.
Sarah
I got it. Like, when I was younger, I definitely leaned towards Nick. Like, I loved Nick. Then I grew into Kevin.
Kirby
You know why? It's because it's like the.
Sarah
Like the baby face.
Kirby
The baby face. And he was closer to our age.
Sarah
It was like. That's why so many girls love Justin, because he was, like, the most attainable.
Kirby
Totally.
Sarah
Like, Joey was a grown man.
Kirby
Yeah. Joey was a dad.
Sarah
But you know what? I saw this video, so it was AJ oh, bye. Love, aj. And by the way, if you still so fit, AJ and Joey, they put on a good show.
Kirby
I went to their concert last year, remember?
Sarah
But it's like, you realize as you get older that Joey Fatone, there was a reason why the moms were, like, salivating over him. Because he was, like, a man. He had a goatee, red hair. He was constantly sticking his tongue out.
Kirby
You're like, who was rooting for Chris?
Sarah
There is a contingent of women that loved Chris.
Kirby
Who.
Sarah
Okay, this is really taking it back. But when I was. I can't remember.
Kirby
I died. No.
Sarah
I was seeing fan sites as a seventh grader. I'm not kidding. Like, those random fan sites.
Kirby
Totally.
Sarah
I became pen pals with a girl named Courtney, and Chris was her guy. She loved Chris.
Kirby
Interesting. Okay.
Sarah
And we would write letters to each other.
Kirby
Maybe it was when he had his little, like, braids or whatever.
Sarah
So problematic of the pineapple braids. Yes. I mean, this. This. These were the times.
Kirby
Yeah, the times.
Sarah
These were the times. I think that he looks back and is probably like, what? But Chris. NSYNC would not exist without Chris, actually. Oh, my God. I wrote this down. Can I. Can I read you something? So when I was learning about this NSync biopic, I'm like, okay, who is gonna play who?
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Like, who would be, like, a contender for all of this? Oh, my God, I hope I can find it. It was. This is from Joey's birthday on January 28th.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
So I must have been reading about this around that time. My initial thoughts as Justin. Okay, I'm gonna go in order of the letters and in sync.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
Jack Harlow or Joshua Bassett. Do you know Joshua Bassett?
Kirby
Let me see. Josh.
Sarah
Joshua Bassett was in the new High School Musical TV series with Olivia Rodrigo. He was the epicenter of the drama between her and Sabrina Carpenter.
Kirby
Okay. Yes, yes, yes.
Sarah
He can sing. He has curly hair. I think that he could nail a Justin Timberlake.
Kirby
I feel like Jack Harlow's too old now.
Sarah
He is. But I also think that Justin Timberlake is, like, Jack Harlow is who Justin Timberlake wished he was.
Kirby
Okay. Yeah. Like that. In his career.
Sarah
Yes.
Kirby
Rapper.
Sarah
And I know that they're, like, kind of friendly. And I could see Jack Harlow being a really smooth Justin Timberlake.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
Maybe later years.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
Okay, I'm gonna go with. Okay. So for Chris Gabriel, Gabriel LaBelle. He was in the Steven Spielberg biopic, and he was also in the Saturday Night Live movie playing Lorne Michaels. Okay. He could do it.
Kirby
Yeah. Okay.
Sarah
He could do it for Joe Locke from Heartstopper or Agatha all along. Do you know any of these people? They're children, but they have to be, okay.
Kirby
Yeah, no, they have to be.
Sarah
And then I put a note. Editor's note. Chris started the group, so I think it would be smart to have a potential biopic with him as the narrator. So it has to be a really strong actor. And Gabriel has the gravitas. He's been in, like, Oscar contenders. And Joe, people just love him.
Kirby
You guys, she's really thought about.
Sarah
I have thought about this. Okay, Spencer House.
Kirby
I'm literally Googling everyone that you're saying, okay?
Sarah
And to be honest, I cannot remember what Spencer who? Spencer House is.
Kirby
Okay? He was born in 1992. He's from Texas. He's from. He was in a movie called Space Force. Teenage bounty hunter Hunter.
Sarah
Will you show me his picture? I can't even remember. Yes. Okay. This is the guy from Tell me Lies. Okay. He's one of the actors in Tell me Lies. Spencer House or Jacob Elordi as Joey Fatone. Don't tell me. Do not tell me. There's going to be a whole storyline about Joey being able to get it. Picture Jacob Elordi with a goatee and red hair. He could be Joey.
Kirby
No, Jacob Elordi's too handsome.
Sarah
He could be. He could be. Joey was handsome.
Kirby
No, I'm not saying that. Joey was not handsome.
Sarah
A hot man. No, this is like, too.
Kirby
You know, it's like too handsome.
Sarah
Let him pack on a few pounds just a little. Like, he needs to fill out. Not like he needs to gain a ton of weight, but he needs to fill out his face a little bit with a goatee and red hair. He could get Joey.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
Or this guy, Spencer House.
Kirby
Okay, okay, okay. What about, like a Noah Centineo? Cause he can pack. He can pack the pounds and, like.
Sarah
He'S still, like, he could pass his Italian, I think.
Kirby
Oh, my God. Isn't he Italian? Centineo.
Sarah
Is that Italian? Isn't it? I. I don't want to get into that territory. I don't know. I don't know. But yeah, maybe.
Kirby
Maybe.
Sarah
Nova Centinegao.
Kirby
Spanish.
Sarah
I'm gonna say he's giving. He's giving. Like Latin.
Kirby
Okay, so then he's frequent in it in Italy. Okay.
Sarah
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
Kirby
We can put him there.
Sarah
You're a.
Kirby
Maybe.
Sarah
Laugh your ass off at this.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
Okay. Do you have any guesses as who Lance Bass could be?
Kirby
No, I don't, because I don't know these children who Barry Keegan.
Sarah
No, it could work. It could work. Or Lucas Gage.
Kirby
Oh, Lucas Gage.
Sarah
Lucas Gage could be an excellent Lance Bass.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
Okay.
Kirby
Yes. Okay.
Sarah
Don't tell me that's not great. Okay. And then you're actually going to die when you hear who I'm suggesting to you.
Kirby
Lucas Gage would be great. Okay. Who?
Sarah
Okay, look up Thomas Doherty. So Thomas Great was in Tell Me Lies. He was also in the reboot of Gossip Girl.
Kirby
Gossip Girl, Yes. Okay. I remember his face.
Sarah
His face. He has the dark hair, blue eyes. I think he can sing, potentially.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
Or. And really hear me out on this, everybody, please. Timothee Chalamet as J.C. chazay.
Kirby
Okay, I'm fine with that. I'm fine with that. It works.
Sarah
It works.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
And he can. If he can be Bob Dylan, he can figure out Jason. Can you imagine?
Kirby
That's, like, more his wheelhouse.
Sarah
Imagine imag. Okay. This is actually the reason why I picked him. Imagine Timothee Chalamet wrapped in a straight jacket.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Being on the COVID of the Schizophrenic album.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
That's gonna be a whole part of the biopic, too. Like, why did Justin rise when JC had schizophrenic like, Timothy would nail.
Kirby
Yeah. And he'd obviously be the star.
Sarah
He would nail a D, I, D, A, s. All day long I dream about sex. Or all day, whatever. All day I dream about sex. That song. Yeah. Or blowing me up with her love.
Kirby
Oh, my gosh.
Sarah
Can you imagine him, like, pretending to do, like, the marching band thing? It would work.
Kirby
And humping the stage.
Sarah
We gotta figure out who's gonna play Lou Perlman. Obviously, Britney Spears is gonna be involved.
Kirby
In there, and that's gonna be.
Sarah
But it has to be just, like, a really minor key. It can't be, like, a whole thing where she's, like, an integral part of the biopic. So I'm. Cause we have to save the best choices for Britney's actual biopic, which I think is Olivia Holt.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
That's my front runner right now.
Kirby
Okay. Is that happening?
Sarah
Yes.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
But I don't know if she's actually doing it. I know that the biopic's happening. I think that Britney in NSYNC biopic should be Addison Rae, because, like, people have been wanting that, but she's like, I wouldn't really fully do it.
Kirby
Yeah. And she's gonna be, like, a minor. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She'd do really well there. Have you seen. By the way, I loved all that. That was great.
Sarah
Thank you.
Kirby
Have you seen the Elle Woods. That Reese Witherspoon just cast Elle Woods.
Sarah
No. They finally cast her.
Kirby
Yeah. And she looks so much like Elle Woods. Like, Reese Witherspoon. It's really, really cute. Hold on, I'm gonna show you. And Reese Witherspoon, like, surprised her in person, and she was like, you know, she made her, like. She drew it out a little bit, and she was like, I'm just here to tell you that you don't need to audition for anything anymore because you got the part. She, like, starts crying.
Sarah
Oh, my gosh.
Kirby
Stop.
Sarah
Okay, hold on. Let me see this. Oh, I didn't watch this. I didn't know what this was. Oh, my God. She is Elle.
Kirby
She's so cute.
Sarah
Oh, I saw this girl's video. Oh, my God.
Kirby
Good for her. So cute.
Sarah
How freaking cute. She looks just like Elle Wis.
Kirby
I know. It's crazy.
Sarah
It's like a baby Reese, but, like, not.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Oh, my God. Good for her. I'm so happy for her. That is so cute.
Kirby
And then they included, like, Reese talking about how, like, during the casting process, she was like. It was really weird to see, like, so many me's from back then.
Sarah
Totally.
Kirby
I was like, that's so crazy.
Sarah
Yeah. Yes. I think that this open casting call thing is great.
Kirby
Yeah, it's a great idea.
Sarah
They're doing it with Dolly right now. And there is this girl who is. There's two girls that I'm really gunning for. One, her name is Elise Bell. She's a Broadway type. I think she's been on Broadway. Forgive me, listeners, If I'm not 100% on that. But incredible voice. And she sings exactly like Dolly. Like, I'm like, if you are not casting her, what are you doing? And then there's this woman who literally impersonates Dolly from the uk and she also sounds a lot like her, but she's older.
Kirby
Older. Okay. Okay.
Sarah
So they've already. They have, like, two in. They have two younger dollies that they're testing out, and then they have these 15 other dollies potentially.
Kirby
And does Dolly have a part? Does she have a say?
Sarah
Yes. Like, she's basically helping to pick.
Kirby
Oh, my God.
Sarah
But that's what they need to do with Britney. Britney will not be a part of, like, any of that, unfortunately. And good for her. That's her own thing. But they have. I feel like they do need to go either if Olivia Holt doesn't get it. They need to do, like, total unknown.
Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think so, too. I don't some. Cause I Feel like if it's too big of a name and too big of a personality, then it's like, that's all you see when you're watching the movie.
Sarah
People are like, sydney Sweeney. I'm like, are y'all on crack? Have you. They have to actually look a little bit.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Or the prosthetics have to be so good.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
It has to be like, Lily James and Pam and Tommy.
Kirby
Yeah. Yeah. But I think you're right for, like, a Britney Spears biopic. Like, it needs to be someone.
Sarah
A complete unknown.
Kirby
If you will.
Sarah
If you will.
Kirby
Yeah. So if you get invited to the Sphere, will you go?
Sarah
Yes. I'm also trying to get tickets. Like, this is the thing. Like, I'm upset for myself and any NSync fan for the fact that we have to suffer through more Backstreet Boys announcements and Justin Timberlake never seemingly going off tour.
Kirby
Yes. Yeah.
Sarah
Which. Jt, I mean, please, this is. You need image rehab. This is, like, the best thing you could do. I just. This man is a glutton for punishment. I do not understand it.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
I love him dearly, but, like, I need to study his brain as to why he behaves in this fashion.
Kirby
I mean, his ego is just getting out of control.
Sarah
I mean, I've maybe a ban. Out of control anyways. Maybe one day we'll get an NSYNC reunion before they're all 50.
Kirby
Chris is 50. I need to be able to, like, move and dance, so the sooner the better.
Sarah
Like, next year, JC is gonna be 50.
Kirby
Yeah, that's fine. They're still hot. They could still get it, so it's okay.
Sarah
And, like, we're approaching our 40s, so they need to get it together and with the swiftness.
Kirby
Okay. I feel like 2025 is the year of volume.
Sarah
Pump up the volume.
Kirby
Like, all of a sudden, everyone's like, let's go. Volume in my hair.
Sarah
I want big, fat hair.
Kirby
I know. I mean, I always have, so I welcome it.
Sarah
I'm from Texas, so, like, closer to God. That's the hair. And, you know, the conversation around thin hair has been, like, very prominent on social media. People talking about, like, hair shedding, hair thinning, like, alopecia, postpartum hair loss, like, all of these different things. So if you like volumizing products, we've been seeing a lot of them just in general, like, volumizing, thickening, things like that for our Glamgellinos, who test products for us in our Slack group, which you can join through our link in our bios or on our show notes, they have been testing this new product that officially launched. Yeah, it's launched already and it's available. It is Odell's volumizing foam. And if you're like Odell, that rings a bell. Odell also. Yeah, we love rhymes. Odell activated with us last year on a scalp and body scrub that our listeners tested as well and loved. And so they were like, let's come back for round two. They gifted everybody the volumizing foam, which offers eight hours of volume heat protection up to 450 degrees and humidity protection to help minimize flyaways with zero sticky residue or crunch. Sarah and I have talked about how usually if you're putting something in your hair, it's going to act as a heat protector of sorts. This claim, though, has been actually tested to withstand up to 450 degrees.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Which is great.
Kirby
I love, like, I know that we have tried, you know, volumizing sprays. Obviously there's powders, things like that. I love a foam. Like, I've always been like a mousse girl. And so I think that for me, like, it, it really. I really feel like it's. I'm able to get it all over, you know, the roots of my hair. So I love this product. So it has amaranth, which supports hair thickness and bounce, rice protein, which helps volumize and boost shine. And then to Kirby's point, it has a heat protectant thanks to a vegan thermal shield, which helps prevent heat damage up to 450 degrees, which, if you're actually using that much heat in your hair, that's crazy.
Sarah
But you know what, some of these, these tools, they automatically go there. And so you're not adjusting it really? I mean, totally. I am not looking at my T3 curling iron.
Kirby
Do you go to the highest level?
Sarah
I don't go to the highest one, but I also don't know what the highest thing on is. I'm sure it's not 500. I'm sure maybe 450 is the highest.
Kirby
I think I go to, like the second or third level, which is probably pretty high.
Sarah
I go to four, so I'm really up there. So I definitely need to protect.
Kirby
You see the steam coming off. Wait.
Sarah
Do you know what thermal shields or heat protectants are usually made of? I'm interested in this. Vegan.
Kirby
Yeah. No, I don't know. Actually. That's a good question.
Sarah
We should reach out. But this is also made without SLS or sles. Sulfates, formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, dyes, synthetic fragrances. If that is something you guys are super worried about. Of course Sarah and I have our own thoughts on those things. But we also like to announce it, as a lot of people in our testing group do ask, is this made without fragrance? Is it made without parabens? Things like that. All right, so if you are curious about the volumizing foam, as with every Glos Angeles Confidential seating, when the product launches, you can go and actually search for Gloss Angeles Confidential in the reviews and you will see authentic, verified, real people reviews so you know that they're from an actual person. And if you don't know about this program, we don't tell people what they have to say. Yeah, we don't say this has to be a glowing review. It really has to be based on their own personal experience. The only thing we do is we walk them through exactly how to use the product, what the claims are so they can test against it properly, and then how to leave a review that is fair and constructive if it didn't work for them.
Kirby
Exactly.
Sarah
So here's some stats and a few reviews that we'll read. 50% of our testers had never tried Odell before, but 86% of them said that they would purchase an Odell product in the future having tried this. And 90% said that they would recommend the brand to a friend after testing the volumizing foam.
Kirby
That's great.
Sarah
So they got a lot of fans from this.
Kirby
Yeah, for sure. So some of the reviews are great product at an amazing price. I did love it that it minimized flyaways and it smelled great. Someone said they want to bring it to their salon. They said they enjoyed the experience of receiving this sort of mini PR kit. They thought it was very thoughtful. And then this other tester said that she had participated in the scalp scrub, which made her an Odell fan already. So now she's calling herself an Adele loyalist, which we love. And she's also buying more of their products.
Sarah
There is some feedback which I think is important to share. This says it did take me a little bit to find my groove with the product. I focused on the directions that said to focus at the roots. When I did that, I didn't see much, if any, lift happening. And for reference, that this person has long, fine, wavy, slash curly hair and a lot of it. But once this person focused on the length of her hair, she started seeing body and volume in her waves and curls and she fell in love with the. So it maybe takes a few tests to figure out how it works best. It seems like it's indicated obviously to be used at the root for that volume and lift. But a lot of people actually, in the responses that I was reading said I actually like it more for like body. It like, helps almost width wise versus height wise.
Kirby
Oh, interesting.
Sarah
And most of the criticisms that were received about the product were that they wanted more volume.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
And that they did feel a slight quote unquote crunch to the hair, which.
Kirby
I guess is like normal with a foam.
Sarah
With a foam or a mousse. So, yeah, I think it depends obviously on your hair type, how much hair you do have. And then, you know, because if you do have more hair, potentially it might not get as high as you want. But I also think that if you are scared of having too much volume, that this could be a good starter volume foam.
Kirby
Yeah, I. That's the thing that I love about Gloss Angels Confidential is the fact that I feel like brands learn something about these new products. Right. They're like, oh, actually, like, we're learning that people like to use it from, you know, root to tip. Like, I think it's. It's like almost. I mean, it is a focus group. It's a testing group. Right.
Sarah
So it helps with the messaging of, like, how to use the product or even on social, like. Okay, this is how it's indicated. But maybe we go a different direction and try to help people realize how many different ways you can use the product.
Kirby
Yes. Okay. So the Odell volumizing foam is $12. You can read all of the reviews on odellbeauty.com and you can find it at Ulta, Amazon, CVS and Target.
Sarah
Great price points.
Kirby
Yeah, I love it.
Sarah
We have some news. Sarah, is Mac back?
Kirby
Did it leave? No, it sort of did. There was a. There was. It's never left, but I feel like it was just like left out of the conversation.
Sarah
Okay, Great way to put it. We've talked about this before. When we were at Amazon, we mentioned, is Mac actually driving trends anymore? I don't think so.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
And I stand by that. However, I'm not. I stand by that.
Kirby
Okay. Okay.
Sarah
But they have products that are tried and true.
Kirby
Yes, yes.
Sarah
And I will say this till I'm blue in the face. I will always go out and pick up a Mac Gigablack Lash Mascara.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
Until the day I die. That is a mascara I will always have on my person. It will always be in my drawer. I will always have it because I know it works. So many Mac colors. Ruby Woo Stone Gray. There's so many standard. They're just the blueprint.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
For so many things. I mean, the brand's almost 40 years old. Next year it'll be 40, which is bonkers.
Kirby
Yeah. And I feel like if anyone has trouble finding their foundation shade, it's like.
Sarah
Just go to Mac, go to Mac, go to Mac, go to Mac. Get it figured out. So I don't think that they have ever been irrelevant. I just don't think that they are driving the trends they once used to with their products, like with their Fix Plus.
Kirby
Right.
Sarah
Like, they were really innovative in their product formulas for a very long time and now I think we're seeing that elsewhere. I think that they just have the staples that a lot of people are taking the blueprint and then kind of elevating off of.
Kirby
Yep.
Sarah
But they are back in the conversation, baby.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
So last year we saw this rise of the cooler tones. It's these cool tone palettes, cool tone lip products, cool tone contours, which like arguably contour should always be cool toned. And there's been influencers on TikTok specifically that focus solely on cool tones, which is really, really fascinating to me. And we love Aaron Parsons, beauty historian. She was the one that kind of got the conversation back of, okay, so Max Spice iconic lip color does not look like the original formula.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
Then we get Vic Casal from Mob Beauty, who literally created those formulas and.
Kirby
Shared with us, like, the actual shade, like in his notebook in his little.
Sarah
Like lab that he wrote in 1989.
Kirby
So sweet.
Sarah
And it just spawned all of this conversation where Mob even made essentially a dupe of Vic's own product from 30 something years ago. That's M1990 lip pencil, one of my absolute favorites. I buy it. I also have that on my person at all times because it's such a great shade. But Mac said, oh, okay. If we're gonna be getting duped and people are gonna be talking about these long lost products and bringing back these certain products, then we're just gonna figure it out. So there are so many headlines around Mac that I just wanted to share a few of them with the listeners and you because there's just a ton. So this says Mac Nude's campaign included Martha Stewart, Julia Fox, Odell Beckham Jr. And Tiffany New York Pollard stripping down with the tagline I only wear. Mac, did you see this?
Kirby
Yes, yes, yes. Julia Fox was like basically naked on.
Sarah
The subway, totally nude on the subway, probably with like a merkin and some pasties or something. And I thought it was really smart. It reminded me a lot of the PETA ads. It's almost akin to, like, a Got Milk ad with the signature mustache. I think this is something that they can keep up for decades moving forward. You know, Mac has always had their Viva Glam campaign, and that's something that's been very steadfast for them. And their products are steadfast. But I think this is, like, a really fresh, relevant take on the brand that we can continue to see throughout the future.
Kirby
Yes, yes.
Sarah
Then they did something really fun on social. They leaked their nudes, quote, unquote. So they launched, I believe, 28 new nude shades in a variety of different tones and things like that. And initially, it was. They posted on Close Friends, and it was like, we're leaking our nudes, and everyone was like, what the hell is going on here? And it was a really smart way to just drum up excitement.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
And also kind of tease to people, like, some stuff is coming back.
Kirby
Yep.
Sarah
We're going to have some of your favorites come back. They launched this makeup bag during Fashion Week, which I am so absolutely jealous of anyone that got this bag. I believe they gifted it to a few people, and you could buy it, but you cannot. It's sold out, and for good reason. It's a $295 bag that was in a collaboration with the fashion brand Luar. And you open up. It's a cute little tote, and you open it up, and there are pockets for all of your products. Cute on the sides.
Kirby
So smart.
Sarah
I have been literally trying to think of a way to create some kind of mini thing for my makeup brushes so that I could keep them with me in, like, a clutch of some sort. Cause I actually like having some makeup brushes on me throughout the day. This. I would not be able to live without this bag.
Kirby
Oh, and it has a little mirror, too.
Sarah
Yes.
Kirby
That's really smart. Yeah. Because, I mean, how many times has, like, a lipstick cap, like, opened up in your purse and then it's gotten all over everything? Or, like, you're like, this is really unsanitary that I'm, like, using my brush.
Sarah
Right now, like, my powder puffs, too, just thrown in my purse, like, with your.
Kirby
I mean, if you have your keys.
Sarah
Yeah. It's, like, disgusting. Disgusting. So I think it's pretty brilliant that they did this.
Kirby
Oh, it's super cute. Oh, it has the little Mac logo on the handle.
Sarah
Yep.
Kirby
Very chic.
Sarah
Very chic and very smart. I think that's a very smart collaboration that works for both brands.
Kirby
I'm surprised it sold.
Sarah
Oh, I am upset because I was going to buy it, like, truly. Truly. I was looking on ebay, too. I'm like, oh, my God, the prices are crazy. Then last year, they took beauty historian Aaron Parsons to the Mac archives to show off OG products, which I think is really smart, since she was really driving that conversation. And when they released their new nude line, they brought back the original Mac spice, except now it's called Cool Spice. So the spicy.
Kirby
So they're adding in now that it's different.
Sarah
So the spice they have now is warm. Warm, yeah. I don't know. I understand why they're calling this new one Cool Spice.
Kirby
I think it would have cost them too much to, like, change the name of their current spice to just. To Warm Spice.
Sarah
Yes.
Kirby
It would be too much work, and.
Sarah
There'S just too much consumer confusion. If someone goes in and is like, I'm looking for warm. I'm looking for the original spice. And they're like, wait, well, the new original spice or the old original spice.
Kirby
They should have done, like, what Pillow Talk did, where it's like Pillow Talk, didn't they? It's like numbers.
Sarah
Right? So Pillow Talk has the original.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
They have medium.
Kirby
Yes. Or. Okay, medium. Yes.
Sarah
And then I don't know if they have a light.
Kirby
Yeah, maybe they don't. Or, like. Yeah, like, they should have just. Or even, like, the year they could have added that at the end or something to differentiate. But I do think maybe. Maybe they'll, like, get rid of this spice.
Sarah
1990.
Kirby
Yeah, it would feel.
Sarah
Also, it's hard because then Mob has their.
Kirby
Oh, right. Then that would be.
Sarah
So then they feel like, a little too much of a dupe of.
Kirby
Have you asked Vic what he feels about this?
Sarah
No, but I. I mean, I'm sure.
Kirby
He'S, like, thrilled that's his. Yeah, it was.
Sarah
They own it. You know, it's inevitable. It's like, what they were gonna do. So I do think Mac is back in a big way. Back in the conversation, at the very least.
Kirby
Back at the conversation. I'm curious to see if the younger generation is, like, catching on.
Sarah
No, I think they are. Like, that's why I'm even bringing this up, because I'm so.
Kirby
You see them talking about it.
Sarah
Yes. Like, they know Mac shades now. They know names of Mac product. I mean, not Gen Alpha. Like, they're not wearing grays. You know what I mean? But, like, not yet, But I would like to see some more innovation from Mac. I think the last innovation I'VE really seen for them was like, the Mac Stack mascara. I'm not a big, big fan of that mascara, but I, I, Oh. And they. Yeah. Was it Mac Stack? Yeah. Because they kept calling it, like, a dry shampoo for your lashes.
Kirby
And I feel like they try with the new skincare products, but I just don't, like, I don't think of Mac when I think of skincare.
Sarah
No. The only thing I really think of for Mac when I think of skincare is the strobe cream.
Kirby
Yeah. But that's not even. I don't even call that skincare.
Sarah
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Also interesting news is that their creative director, Drew.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
Has left the building. No, he left. So he all of this. Okay.
Kirby
Where'd he go?
Sarah
We're gonna find out. We'll know by the time this goes live. Rachel Strugotts at Puck has the scoop. I was dming with her the other day. I'm like, I'm fascinated by this. So he left, and apparently what happened is he told Mac, I have another opportunity. So he's going to a different beauty brand.
Kirby
Who do we think it is?
Sarah
I have no idea. I would have to say. I, I would think it would be someone new, Like a new brand.
Kirby
And he is so, like, iconic. I don't wanna say punk, but he's like, you know, he's an artistic, creative, very, like, avant garde type of person. So I feel like it has to be a very fun brand.
Sarah
Yes. It has to be something where he can really shine and spread his wings.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Yeah. If you're not familiar, Drew Elliott is the global creative director of Mac Cosmetics. Well, he was up until this past week. Rachel reports that he told the Estee team that he had this gig, this new gig, and they essentially showed him the door, which is pretty normal in this type of circumstance. I mean, he's very high up at Mac. Apparently, Estee also got rid of their, like, trend team, and it was essentially associated. Rachel was reporting that it was the Mac team that oversaw trends and innovation, and they were all let go. But apparently that was a part. It was an Este team, and Estee was like, there was too much crossover. So we. That's what happened.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
That's the word on the street, according to Rachel Strugatz at Puck. But I'm really curious to see if.
Kirby
It'S, like, a new brand or an existing brand that needs the same sort of refresh.
Sarah
Perhaps, perhaps. And maybe, just maybe, he's going to revive a brand that I would like to speak about.
Kirby
Oh, I feel like you know something?
Sarah
Welcome back to Ms. Continued today. My friends, this is hard. This is a hard one for me because this brand was near and dear to my heart for so long and it abruptly shuttered in 2018. Sarah, hi. Do you remember Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics?
Kirby
I do. Like, when I was looking at the doc and I saw this name, I immediately pictured the packaging of the Liptar.
Sarah
Okay. If you do not know or have never heard of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, they changed the game. They changed the game. This brand blew up with Liptar. Liptar. Very aggressive name, very harsh name. But it really was unlike any other product on the market. It had the longevity of a lipstick with the application of a gloss.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
And I'm not talking like you had a doe foot applicator in a tube and applying. You had. It was a little paint tube with the little tiny paintbrush and you applied it to your lips. It packed a punch of pigment unlike anything else. It felt amazing. It was the first ever vegan and cruelty free beauty line.
Kirby
Wow.
Sarah
I know.
Kirby
Even ahead of Urban Decay. Wow.
Sarah
Apparently. Apparently truly vegan and cruelty free.
Kirby
Okay, okay.
Sarah
It was. I wrote in here, it was pigmented as fuck. And it was.
Kirby
And it came in like really fun colors.
Sarah
Yes. So that was the whole thing is that this lip paint, it was before any other paints, if you want to call them that on the market. And it really ushered in the brightly colored lip product era.
Kirby
Yeah.
Sarah
Like before that it was like, you know, shades that you could play with and maybe one off color from a brand. This. Not only were there so many different shades to play with, I believe 55 in total, but you could, because they were paint like products, you could mix them and create your own shade, which was amazing. And they came in a million different finishes.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
You had matte, glossy, holographic, sparkle, frost, shimmer. Whoa. So many. The list goes on. It also had peppermint oil in it. And so it smelled really good. It gave your lips a little. I remember when I. Yes. When I first got this product, I know it was called lip tar. Okay. So please do not judge me. It was called lip tar. But I remember when I first got it, I was a little baby beauty editor. I put some on my eyes. I'm a fucking idiot. And well, it's a pink.
Kirby
It's in a paint too.
Sarah
And it really made my eyes like I. I was feeling it because of the peppermint oil. Okay. So like, just make sure you read the instructions before you apply any products. Learn from Baby Kirby.
Kirby
Oh, my gosh.
Sarah
But they had shades like Grandma, which was this coral pink. Like you were a Palm beach grandma with, like this. And people were obsessed with this color. Black Dahlia, a true black and techno pagan, which it was like this electric purple shade. I mean, people were losing their minds. These were the lip colors that made people turn their heads. And they didn't just make lip tar. They made a bunch of other great products. I still have the original Loose Shimmer products.
Kirby
You do?
Sarah
Yes. They were beautiful. I mean, I definitely should not put them on my face, but I still have them.
Kirby
Yes.
Sarah
They also made lip pencils. And I want to call out one specifically that I think is so genius. And I think that Half Magic has kind of replicated this in a different way. So go with me here. These lip pencils, you know, they were beautiful. And they were meant to keep your lip tar from bleeding or out, you know, from around your mouth. They had one specifically called Anti Feathered. It was clear. Do you remember this?
Kirby
No, I don't.
Sarah
I was obsessed with this product. So you could use it to outline your lips.
Kirby
Uh huh. And it keeps it.
Sarah
Yes. And it didn't matter. Yes. It basically helped shape the lip without giving any color. So you didn't have to worry about trying to match some of these extremely bright shades with a lip product or alternatively use an eye pencil that maybe was not meant to be put on the lips.
Kirby
So wait, you said Half Magic has something similar.
Sarah
So Half Magic did something similar. Cause also it was kind of like a cleanup tool. Yeah, I think it's very similar to their magic flick eraser.
Kirby
I see what you're saying. Okay.
Sarah
So it's a very specific type of product that helps clean up in a way and keep things put. And you could also use this particular. It's not even a shade. It was clear, it was invisible. But you could use it on your eyes. So it would almost work as like a primer for your liner.
Kirby
Oh.
Sarah
So you could apply a wing with that. Clear. And then go over it with like a powder or some type of liquid pen or even another pencil, and it would stay put.
Kirby
Okay.
Sarah
It was brilliant.
Kirby
So wait, where did it go?
Sarah
Okay, so it was a huge drama. And actually, if you go to Vox, they have a big rundown of this.
Kirby
There was a lawsuit with Sephora.
Sarah
Yes. Yes. It was a huge deal. So the brand was established in 2004 by David Classfield, and then it abruptly shuttered. I mean, like, was removed from every website, the Instagram page. Like, everything went away in 2018. Okay. And then apparently what happened is there was some discrepancies between the agreement between Sephora and David Classfield and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics regarding stocking the product, promotion of the product, things of that nature and what Sephora would actually contribute to. If you guys want to read the whole dirty details of it all, it's really fascinating if you don't understand how retailer relationships work. But essentially Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics was like, we cannot sustain this brand anymore based off of what Sephora is asking us to do in terms of exclusivity, in terms of the amount of product we have to provide and the amount of other retailers that we are turning away. So we are, we have to shutter the brand and haven't had anything even remotely similar since. Nobody's been able to nail the formula. Nobody's been able to really provide, in my opinion, my humble opinion, provide something like this that was truly innovative and different from everything else on the market.
Kirby
And why, I mean, I need to read the story, but why can't they bring it back and just go dtc?
Sarah
That is for David Classfield to answer. So, David, I'm coming to you to say I miss Obsessive Compulsive cosmetics. I miss lip tar, I miss anti feathered, I miss all the things and I would love to see a revivaled. That is my miscontinued.
Kirby
That's a good one.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the key discussions and highlights from the episode.

Kirbie and Sara kick off the episode by reminiscing about the golden era of boy bands, specifically focusing on the ongoing discussions surrounding NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys. Sara expresses frustration over the lack of an NSYNC reunion, stating, “We're sick and tired of this shit” (00:54). They discuss the backstory of NSYNC's monumental success in 2000, with Sara highlighting, “NSYNC was the first band ever to sell 2 million records in a week” (01:09).
Kirbie shares disappointment upon hearing that the Backstreet Boys are not paving the way for a possible NSYNC reunion, despite initial hopes for 2025. The conversation touches on Justin Timberlake’s solo career and his ongoing tour in South America, with Kirbie noting, “Justin Timberlake's on his merry way through South America... still doing well” (01:25).
Timestamp: 05:27 – 11:37
The hosts transition into a spirited discussion about the anticipated NSYNC biopic. They brainstorm potential actors who could embody the group members, diving deep into character fit and star power. Sara hypothesizes casting options for Justin Timberlake, suggesting "Jack Harlow or Joshua Bassett" (06:20).
She continues, “Timothee Chalamet as J.C. Chazay” (10:14), imagining him in a complex role dealing with schizophrenia, adding, “Imagine Timothee Chalamet wrapped in a straight jacket… that’s gonna be a whole part of the biopic” (10:22). Kirbie expresses excitement over these casting ideas, emphasizing the importance of accurate representation.
They also discuss potential actors for other NSYNC members, such as Gabriel LaBelle for Chris and Lucas Gage for Lance Bass, while critiquing options like Jacob Elordi for Joey Fatone, ultimately seeking actors who can capture the essence without overpowering the characters.
Timestamp: 11:55 – 14:42
Shifting gears, the hosts share exciting news about Reese Witherspoon being cast as Elle Woods in the upcoming Legally Blonde reboot. Kirbie enthusiastically recounts, “I loved all that. That was great” (12:03), and narrates a heartwarming story where Reese Witherspoon personally informed an actress that she had secured the role without an audition, saying, “I'm just here to tell you that you don't need to audition for anything anymore because you got the part” (12:04).
Sara adds her insights on the casting process, mentioning potential candidates like Elise Bell for Dolly Parton roles and discussing the importance of authentic representation in biopics. The conversation underscores the significance of casting that honors the original characters while bringing fresh talent into the spotlight.

Kirbie and Sara discuss MAC’s recent campaigns featuring celebrities like Julia Fox and Odell Beckham Jr., highlighting the brand’s innovative approach to timeless products. Sara remarks, “MAC has always had their Viva Glam campaign, and that's something that's been very steadfast for them” (26:46).
They explore MAC’s collaboration with Luar Fashion during Fashion Week, unveiling a coveted $295 makeup bag that has sold out rapidly. Sara shares her admiration, “This is a cute little tote... I would not be able to live without this bag” (27:13), emphasizing the practicality and stylish design that appeals to beauty enthusiasts.
Additionally, the hosts analyze MAC’s introduction of new nude shades and the strategic naming conventions, such as differentiating between “Cool Spice” and the original “Spice” to avoid consumer confusion. Sara concludes, “I think Mac is back in a big way. Back in the conversation, at the very least” (30:36), indicating MAC’s successful repositioning in the market.
Timestamp: 17:24 – 22:56

They discuss the product’s key features, including its ability to provide eight hours of volume, heat protection up to 450 degrees, and humidity resistance without leaving a sticky residue. Kirbie shares her excitement, “I love this product... it has amaranth, which supports hair thickness and bounce” (17:24).
Sara elaborates on the ingredients, noting the inclusion of rice protein and a vegan thermal shield. They highlight real user feedback, with Sara stating, “90% said that they would recommend the brand to a friend after testing the volumizing foam” (20:19). The discussion also covers constructive criticism, such as the need for more volume for certain hair types and minor concerns about hair crunchiness.
The hosts emphasize the importance of honest reviews and how Gloss Angeles Confidential ensures authentic feedback by guiding testers on proper usage. Kirbie concludes the segment by encouraging listeners to try the product, available at multiple retailers and online platforms.

She reminisces, “They changed the game... it really was the first ever vegan and cruelty-free beauty line” (34:16). Sara nostalgically describes the unique application method using a paintbrush and the wide array of vibrant, long-lasting shades.
Kirbie and Sara lament the brand’s abrupt closure in 2018 due to conflicts with Sephora over distribution and exclusivity agreements. Sara explains, “We have to shutter the brand... nobody's been able to nail the formula” (38:25). The discussion underscores the impact Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics had on the beauty industry and the void its absence has created.
Sara passionately advocates for the brand’s revival, expressing her desire to see Liptar and other iconic products return to the market. She shares, “I miss Obsessive Compulsive cosmetics... I miss lip tar, I miss anti feathered” (39:53), igniting a call to action for fans and industry insiders to consider a comeback.

The hosts wrap up with their signature enthusiasm, urging listeners to stay tuned for more insightful discussions on beauty trends, product reviews, and pop culture intersections in future episodes.
