Josh
The following podcast is a Dear Media production. Two Jews, both big and tall, no subject too small for the Good Guys, a Mother Stream premium podcast team. Make it your weekly routine. It's a Good Guys. And if you don't give us five stars. What are you nuts? What are you nuts?
Ben
Yeah, we're the good guys.
Josh
They're not the great guys. We're just the good and good of the good guys. Welcome back to the Good Guys podcast, Josh.
Ben
No, I'm not in theater. Even though it looks like I'm backstage at the playhouse. Josh, we switched rooms. If you're not watching on video, by the way, probably on Spotify, you are missing out because let me tell you, I'm a Parker Playhouse. Okay. I'm auditioning for Annie. Who would I be an Annie?
Josh
I don't know. Let's see. Did she have a chubby Jewish friend? I mean, a.
Ben
Let me see. Who in the production was A. That J.
Josh
Well, all the anti Semites would say, you could be Daddy Warbucks. That would be believable, by the way.
Ben
Great.
Paige
King.
Ben
King Daddy Warbucks. Great. And you'll be Annie. Are you down for Annie?
Josh
I don't want to be Annie. I want to be Ms. Hannigan because I want to go. Little girls, little girls. Everywhere I see them. They're all Carol Channing, classic. I'm an ordinary woman with feelings. I like a man to nibble on my ear.
Ben
It's amazing that you don't drink anymore because you do a great job.
Josh
Thank you. Oh, it's dark. I miss drinking. What? Did that come out?
Ben
You do? Let's talk about that. Do you?
Josh
No, never. No. Maybe the communal aspect, but no. I miss Percocet but not drinking.
Ben
Yeah, it's so interesting. I. I too, just because of my life stage, I'm certainly drinking less. And the part that I miss is the communal aspect. The going out, going to a bar. But then I remember, Josh, I'm old, I'm married, I have a baby. I wouldn't be doing that anyways. So the only thing that I would be doing if I was like, really still drinking hard alcohol, would I be drinking alone at home? That's scary. No, like, occasionally, like, I'll grab a spritz by the pool, but I don't need anything crazy.
Josh
Could you ever imagine getting to a time where you, like, got home from a long day and you're just chilling with Ruby? He's old enough. You got the game on. It's 7:30 and you just crack open
Ben
a beer it's just not me. I, I maybe like, maybe I am finding, look, the older I get, my taste buds are certainly changing. I used to not really like tomatoes. It's one of the only foods that I didn't like because it can't decide
Josh
it's a bisexual fruit.
Ben
What are you, fruit or vegetable?
Josh
Make up your mind. You're indecisive.
Ben
Make up your mind. That said, it's certainly a vegetable. And these people that pretend that it's a fruit, it's a woody and nuts. Okay, this is a vegetable.
Josh
Yes.
Ben
Okay, this is 100% a vegetable.
Josh
Yes, that's it.
Ben
It doesn't have an identity crisis. It knows exactly what it is. And you're trying to put a fucking label on it.
Josh
That's right, okay.
Ben
You're trying to label my man the tomato. The tomato is a vegetable that now when I cut open and I season with a little salt, pepper, sometimes I marinate it with a little bit of vinegar. Tomatoes are amazing. But let me tell you, a couple of years ago, you sneak a tomato onto my sandwich.
Josh
Totally.
Ben
I'm puking. But now I like it. So maybe at 45 years old, with the sweet ruby, at the ripe age of quick math. 14, 13, something like that. Maybe I'll have a brewski. Maybe I'll have a Modeja. Maybe I'll have a Michelob Ultra.
Josh
What's a Modeja? It's a Modela, a Modelo model.
Ben
Is that like a model.
Josh
Is it a Modela? Is that like a special edition?
Ben
No, that's just like how I try in like a nice native tongue say Modelo.
Josh
I. What I've heard about model is, and I always hear this from my friends who are like proper drinkers, they go, you got to salt it because it tastes like soapy after a while. I don't know, like, they're like, you need to add a little salt to really bring out the notes.
Ben
All I know is I put a model in my beer battered fish tacos the other week. Huh. Unbelievable. Yeah, and it's such a beautiful big can. The thing about beer, I wish I was a beer drinker because it's cool as hell. It really is in line with cigarette smoking. It's cool, dope as fuck. See that person whip out those Marlboro Lights. You're like, oh, all right, Kevin, you're cool, you're cool. Kevin is cool, you know, or all right, Modelo drinker, you're cool. It used to be Blue Moon. I don't think Blue Moon's cool anymore. Right. With the orange slice. Like that guy still holding on to Blue Moon. You have a life.
Josh
No, Blue Moon was a moment. I feel like that was like mid aughts. I mean, it was kind of a girly drink, right? That's what they would say.
Ben
It was a moment. And yeah, it was a gorilla drink, which is why, like, I gravitated towards.
Josh
That's why we would love it.
Ben
That's why we'd love it. Correct. Let's think.
Josh
Okay, this will be a fun game. You decide what beer and cigarette guy you would want to be. Right? Like. Because, like, the typical would be like a PBR and a fucking American Spirit. But we're not those guys. We're not Williamsburg, Silver Lake types. So pick the beer and the cigarette that would. Would best define you.
Ben
Okay, I. I'm going to start with cigarettes. I think I have to go 27. I think a Marlboro 27.
Josh
Oh, is that like the gold brown, brownish gold pack?
Paige
Yeah. Yes.
Ben
I find that it sits right in between the lights and the red. It's a medium cigarette. And Josh, it's just the mystique of it. The reason people would smoke an American Spirit is because if you say lights, if you see reds, they're like, okay, this person doesn't smoke. I tell you, I want to PAC at 27. You're like, oh, this guy smoked before.
Josh
This is Aristocrat.
Ben
I want to be believable, okay? And then in terms of my Bruski, I think. I think Beo. I think Bello is super cool. There's something about it. The gold foil on the little bottle. I think it's cool. I'm not an IPA guy. I think Goose island is for freaks.
Josh
Why? Why?
Ben
It's just. I want a Goose Island. Okay? Goose Island. No, I don't know. Modelo's cool. Michelov Ultra School.
Josh
And I was really cool.
Ben
I'll take a Bud. I'll take a traditional Budweiser. That's a cool ass scam. Okay. I feel like it's kind of gone by the way of the Diet Coke. Right? Like, do people really. I guess some people order Coke, but really they go diet. Some people maybe get a Bud. Most people get Bud Light. I think I like the traditional Bud. I love the brand, the red. It's super cool. What would you smoke and what would you drink?
Josh
I think that I would drink. I want to believe what I would smoke if I had my druthers and I didn't have early onset asthma would be Newports. Oh, it's a Dessert and a smoke.
Ben
It's cool.
Josh
It is so minty, minty fresh. And I. Oracles. But the truth is. And I want to believe I would do that. And then just like a hearty. Just like a night. Either like a Sam Adams, maybe like a Sam Adams Oktoberfest. Like a nice Halloween beer all year round.
Ben
Sam Adams is cool. There's something about it that's very Pirates of the Caribbean. Like a Boston Tea Party. Like, I don't know, it's a little bit. It's. It's theatrical almost. And then you layer on top of it. Oktoberfest. You're in a play.
Josh
Oh, dude, you're in a play. But the truth is, what I would probably really be smoking are Marlboro Ultra Light 100. So long pack, silver pack long. Right? Like a fucking old Russian man. And I would be crushing Michelob Ultras because this is not an ad. But I do drink their near beer sometimes. And it's like 60 calories, like 2 grams of carbs. Like, you know me. I'm not. I'm not going to drink my calories. It's crazy.
Ben
No, the Mick Ultra people really think about our bods, which is. Is always greatly appreciated. Speaking of cigarettes, Claudia and I are rewatching one of my favorite shows of
Paige
all time, Mad Men, which I also
Ben
think is one of the greatest shows ever made. Not that I've seen more than like, 12 shows to be able to see that, but it's a really great show. And the way that they just share tons of misogyny. Okay, that's a problem. Okay. But the ad game and the smoking game and the cars and the. Oh, they romanticize that beautiful era. I think it's like the 50s. Oh, the 50s in New York. I would love to be in the fifties in New York for a day. Looks unbelievable. We have no worries at all. They're literally talking about. Just now. I got to the episode where doctors are no longer allowed to promote cigarettes. Previously, you had doctors promoting cigarettes.
Josh
Totally.
Ben
And I don't know. Sure. I'm like, I guess that's controversial, but we're.
Paige
We're just peddling the next poison.
Ben
Josh, get like, you know, like, I don't know. Yeah, let people. Let people. Let people decide for themselves.
Josh
Yeah. Like in America.
Ben
I'm not saying.
Paige
I'm not saying.
Ben
I didn't mean to say that doctors should be able to promote cigarettes.
Paige
They shouldn't, because they're like beacons of health.
Ben
But I do think that sometimes we're in, like, a weird Place where, like, you can't advertise these pharmaceuticals, but you can advertise this. And I just think that it's all a big gray area, I think, about lobbyists.
Josh
I don't know.
Ben
You know what I mean?
Josh
I know what you mean. It's a hard thing because, like, we are. And I actually can defend both sides of it, and I will.
Paige
Me, too.
Josh
We are the only country, I think, us, in one other country, like North Korea, allows pharmaceutical advertising. It doesn't happen anywhere else in the world. Because it is kind of crazy that they would take all of the tips and tricks and tools of marketing, which clearly you are getting a crash course in, in addition to what you already know by rewatching Mad Men. Like, it's very manipulative. And that we would be using that for medicine is kind of crazy. But I can also argue the other
Ben
side, it's fascinating, though, is specifically in health care, they've put so many guardrails on it, which is why you literally see, like, people dancing in a field while they tell you that the side effects are cancer. Like, that's because that's the only way that you can legally promote these. These drugs. But I just. I don't know. I find it. I find it fascinating. Healthcare marketing in general, it's very, very difficult. And they rely on. Have you ever thought about this? Why are they telling you, Josh? They're telling you about the drug, hoping that you then go to your doctor. It's such, like, a strange.
Paige
Like, you can't go and buy whatever
Ben
drug they're selling without going to your doctor. And then they have the doctor's office selling you at the same time. I used to think, oh, thanks, doc, for the free sample. No, it was a free sample. Hoping that I loved it and I'd come back and I'd buy it again. And then I think the doctor gets, like, some kind of kickback on the other side.
Josh
Used to be. They don't anymore.
Paige
Okay?
Josh
All those loopholes have been closed by a bunch of fucking party poopers. RIP Lindsey Graham. Where he at? No, I'm kidding. Miss you, Linds. Yeah.
Ben
Miss you. Lynn's Rest in Peace. But, yeah, it's fascinating. It's fascinating.
Josh
The other side of it is. And this is what annoys me. And it's like the. It's the black and white. It's the. The good and evil of capitalism and profit motive, right? We have some of the greatest drugs that have ever hit the world as we know it, and some of the biggest pharmaceutical companies, because there's profit motive. And when they come out with these things that are named brand and people just go, God, they're so expensive. Why? Why? Why? And I'm not here defending pharmaceutical companies or that things are wildly overpriced and that we as America could totally, totally take better care of people. And we should strive for it because we are the greatest country and we shouldn't leave anyone behind health wise. There. Make sure when you clip this and you drag me, you put that into.
Ben
But they won't continue, but they won't shoot.
Josh
But the reason why they get. Basically when they come out with a new medication that's FDA approved and it's only name brand and people are like, why can't I get the generic? They get a 10 year Runway of that because it costs them billions to get to the drug. It costs them billions to do the research. So they are allowed to have a patent for 10 years to make that money back. That's the profit incentive for these kind of drugs. And then it becomes give it to the whole world, make it as cheap as possible. What? What I say, is this bad?
Ben
No, it's great. I'm laughing because we are recording today and for the first time we are releasing today. We are truly topical. We said at the top we're going to be careful and all we've spoken about are cigarettes, drug lobbyists. I love it. We are us, Josh. We're us. We're not cutting a thing. No, this is what cutting. This is unedited, unfiltered and topical. Josh, we need to talk about your boy Christopher Nolan. He made a gorgeous movie. Again, the Odyssey. The only problem is that you're not in it.
Josh
Totally a problem.
Ben
I saw this, looks like a really big movie. Some really great people. Tom Holland, Matt Damon. I haven't seen it yet. Anne Hathaway. The great Anne Hathaway. How does she have time? Devil wears Prada 2 and the Odyssey in the same year. But Josh, I wanted to talk a little bit about Christopher Nolan. What it was like working for him. And do you feel snubbed?
Josh
As we all know, I have an incredible five minutes in the movie Oppenheimer. A very pivotal, very important part, some might say. Actually, when I finished filming the movie, I called my wife and I said, don't ever bring up this movie again. Cause I'm probably gonna get cut out. I have a very small part and I don't wanna feel bad when it eventually comes out and I'm not in it. And then a year later, we watched it And I'm the one who, who pushed the button for the atomic bomb. And she's like, what part did you think you were going to get cut out of?
Paige
Idiot.
Ben
Yeah. They literally would have needed to change the plot. We don't want that Josh in it. Now we're, we're moving away from the atomic bomb. Something else happens. This is now a ten blades movie.
Josh
And whenever someone is will say like, oh, I loved you in Oppenheimer, I'd be like, you want to see, you want to see me? You want to see it? And I do. The shaky hand above the button. I'm like, look at it. You're getting it right there.
Ben
You get to see my Ms.
Josh
God forbid.
Paige

Josh
It would be an honor and a privilege and I'm not talking in superlatives here. It's true. It would be an honor and a privilege to ever be on a. Christopher Nolan said again, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. And not for the ego or the exciting show busy, fancy part of it. Because there is nothing like working on a hundred million dollar plus movie set that feels like a little indie movie. And that's what he does. It's like intimate and the great acting work that you've dreamt of doing but with all the resource of a giant movie and everyone is trying to mirror the leader who we know is at a 10 and being as perfect as one could be. Everyone around you is going Let me try my best. And that's so rare. It's so rare. And you're surrounded by the greatest departments and just everyone who's great at what they do. So. That being said, here's the thing. I would love to have been. I would love to work with him again. The Odyssey looks super hard. It looks really rough. Matt Damon, they all talked about it was the hardest thing ever. So if it was like a big part, yeah, that would be ill. I would have. I'd go to Mercury for the guy. If it was another five minutes, I would have been like, it's okay if I sit out this one. Like, you know, please consider me for the next one, maybe.
Ben
Yeah. But he was like, it's unlike working for anybody else. Yeah, that's what I've heard from you. The, like, the way that he runs a set, the genius that is him. He's one of one.
Josh
I don't think there's anyone like him doing it today, like, on that scale. But you hear that about Tarantino, about Scorsese. They just. There's nothing like it. But he's really not making anything that's not great anymore. So, yeah, when. When a director is the star of the movie, the movie is good.
Ben
What was the last movie, the most recent movies? Tarantino. Scorsese.
Josh
Tarantino was once upon a time in Hollywood.
Ben
Sure. Which I think was, like, regarded as fine. And what was.
Josh
Oh, many people call it his, like, magnum opus. Like, people love.
Ben
Oh, really? But okay, people loved it.
Josh
But definitely Pulp Fiction is, you know, like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs.
Ben
I guess I'm just thinking that, like, Nolan is different to me because in every single decade, he has a monster.
Josh
Sure.
Ben
It's not like. Like, I. I certainly like my. My, like, magnum opus, as you say. The Batman trilogy is my favorite three movies of all time.
Josh
Really?
Ben
I could. Yes. Like, I. I love them so, so much. So for me, that's Nolan. For everybody else, I mean, there's a million. He's just. He's so. He's so talented.
Josh
He's so talented, he said. And his wife is so talented who produces all his movies. Could you imagine that?
Ben
Could.
Josh
Do you think you could work that? I mean, you're working on a movie set for 14 hours a day for four months straight. We're not doing any edits to this episode, so I'll just ask this lightly and easily. Could you. Could you and Claudia do that? I think you.
Ben
I don't think.
Josh
I don't butt heads a little. Right.
Ben
I don't think that we could do it in that way. And I'll tell you why. I'll tell you why. Josh, you taped me up so perfectly. Claudia has been doing something recently.
Paige
Okay?
Ben
Yeah, she. She does it. She knows that she does it. I think that she finds joy in it. Let me know if Paige does this. Ben, can you get me a snack? Sure. What kind of snack? Claude, what kind of snack do you want? Snack? What type? Oh, you know, just something that I like. What do you mean something that you like? There's a pantry full of snacks. Okay, what snack? Okay, I go, I get a cup of animal crackers. I love animal crackers. A delicious snack. And I get her five pretzel rods. She historically likes pretzel rods.
Paige
I bring him upstairs.
Ben
I hate animal crackers. You? Since when you hate animal crackers? Try again. I get downstairs, I text her, what do you want? She said, something a little less dry. So I bring her a Hershey bar. And she loved it. But I'm just saying, this game, Josh.
Josh
Oh, boy.
Ben
This game.
Josh
No one wins.
Ben
No one. I guess she wins. I guess she has fun. I guess she has fun. But, yeah, so would we butt heads all day on a set where there's craft services and I would need to guess what she wanted for lunch every day? Yeah, that would be a problem. You think you could work with Paige? Well, I like that. Like, that, like, Claudia and I work together now. It's a different story, though, being in person for nine straight hours working on something versus, like, passively working together, you
Josh
know, like, I wrote a movie that hopefully I'll direct one day. You never know. And my wife is. Went to school for design and fashion. And so there's a literal. There are two jobs. There's a production designer and an art director. And on a movie. And granted, you know, she doesn't have experience doing that specifically. I think if she had had someone to kind of, you know, mentor her, she could pick it up quickly. And so I would love for her to design the look of something that I was gonna direct, but I think we would be in our own worlds there. And then I would be like, oh, I love it. And could we just tweak this one little thing? And she'd be like, no. And I'd be like, it's fine. So that way would be cool. But at, like, a day to day, like. Cause on a set, there's always that one producer who's, like, in the trenches with the director, so they can make, like, the quick. Because a problem arises on set. Usually it's the producer has to deal with it. So I don't think it would be. It would work that way. No way.
Ben
I just feel like for Nolan and his wife to work together, one of them has to be a pushover, right? Like, I don't know how do you work together like that, Have a true strong hand professionally, but also keep the peace personally, without somebody just giving in, it's very, very difficult. You can't. You can't fire your wife.
Josh
Right?
Ben
Okay. Like, you can't and like, you probably want to fire a producer from time to time. You went over budget. You did, like what. Whatever it may be, like, that's. That's actually very, very, very impressive. I'm sure there is so much that we don't know, but they say don't work with family for a reason. Working with your wife like that or working with your husband like that, it seems like it would be very, very difficult to achieve the best product. He makes the best movies. So I think he just continues to be a1of1.
Josh
I bet that I would say about the great Emma Nolan, who's brilliant at what she does, I would think that hit her edge, is that she knows what Nolan wants, what Chris wants so well, that she just is getting ahead of every problem. And that is, first of all, a great producer who knows their director, but probably what makes somehow that, that chemistry work that she's so aware of what he wants in his vision. I remember once, I've only once had an assistant for a movie, and it was when I did the Drake and Josh Christmas movie, because I had all the leverage.
Ben
Hell, yeah.
Josh
I was finally at a contract and I said, nickelodeon, pay up. And I was like, I needed an assistant. They're like, you're a 21 year old drug addict. I was like, so? And so I hired my best friend Len's older brother Gary to be my assistant. Gary, love you. You're my best friend's older brother. And we will be tied to each other and I will be there for you for the rest of our lives. You are a horrible assistant.
Ben
Of course.
Josh
The worst. The only time I asked for anything, once we were on set, and I was like, hey, Garrett, would you like, just grab me a cup of coffee real quick? And he'd be like, yeah, a couple minutes. He's like, I will. I was like, no, like, right, like right now.
Ben
Like, especially with an assistant. I mean, I can't even imagine hiring somebody that I know is an assistant. Like, they, they. They do bitch work. That's it. And by the way this is a. This is a known thing between the assistant and the person they're working for now. 100%. Should you be nice to your assistant? Yeah, you should treat them well. There should be mutual respect. But it's total bitch work. Can I. Can you get me a coffee? Can you print something out for me? Can you get my laundry? Can you call me an Uber? Can you. Like, it's bitch work.
Josh
So, like, totally.
Ben
To do. To do that with somebody that you know, to make. To have that, like, subservient relationship, it's impossible. Impossible. But it has to be somebody that you don't know. You pretend that you'll never know when you end up firing. You never see him again, you know?
Josh
Totally. And I just was like, I really. What I wanted from him was someone to hang out with and, like, run lines with if I needed help. And then. And then there were a few times where I asked him for, like, assistant y things, like, can you just grab me a cup of coffee when you have a moment? And I remember I was venting to the wardrobe lady, Chris, who was the. She was like, the designer of all the clothes for all the shows. And she's like, you know, I was a mentee or I was an intern for this famous fashion designer in New York growing up and going through fashion school. And she said, I took such pride in knowing that at 4 o' clock every day, her blood sugar would drop and she would need a can of Coke. And, like, having that Coke there waiting for her. And, like, that's the difference when you know the person you're working with, like, you can support them to be as great as they are. That is a unique and valuable trait.
Ben
Yeah. And if you're really great, then you won't be an assistant forever. You will continue to grow with that person, certainly. But, yeah, that's rare. That's rare. Josh.
Paige
This episode of the Good Guys podcast is brought to you by our friends at RO. Folks, people assume that GLP1s cost a fortune. Let me tell you, they should. Okay, everybody, that's like, they're too expensive. It's literally magic. Like, you wouldn't pay a lot of money for magic. Like, if somebody came up to you and they said, I'm going to make you skinny, I'm going to curb your appetite.
Ben
That's magic.
Paige
That said, they don't cost a fortune.
Ben
It's a misconception, but they should.
Paige
But they don't. They absolutely don't. There are so many more affordable options than people realize. And let me tell you, RO will help you find the lowest cost path to FDA approved GLP1 treatment, whether that's through insurance coverage or cash pay options that are more accessible than you would expect. And let me tell you, the results are sky high in comparison to the price. I've been on it forever. I am a poster child for GLP1s and let me tell you, RO is the best way to do it. I've done it not through RO and I've done it through ro. RO takes the exact meds that I was getting, the exact GLP1s. We're talking brand names, folks. We're talking wegovies, we're talking zip downs, we're talking Zepatides, we're talking all of them, okay? Name brands. They send them straight to your door.
Josh
That's it.
Paige
You put it right in the fridge. You do your little injection, that's it. Fully FDA approved GLP1 options at the lowest cost available. I'm telling you, it's unbelievable. And it's not just one. Maybe you had an adverse reaction to one in the past. You want to try a new one. They have all of them. It's not just one. It's all of them. Again, FDA approved GLP1 treatments at the lowest cost available to you folks. You can also use their free insurance checker. You're going to go, you're going to use it. You're going to find out if you're covered. If you're not, again, they still have really, really good options. But if you are my God, say a little prayer to God because if
Ben
you're covered, you get this crap for free.
Paige
Are you kidding me?
Ben
You get magic for free.
Paige

Ben
Josh, I had. Can we go to Best bite of the Week for a second?
Josh
Sure.
Paige
You have one.
Ben
But I had. And it's so funny. Have you ever gone past a place 100 times? Never gone in. Finally. And I don't even think that this place is like that talked about. I went in and it blew my mind. Tell me it's called Sag Pizza in Sag Harbor.
Josh
Shout out.
Ben
Katie Couric. She was next to me. There were only. This is outside. You're sitting outside. It's very casual. Picnic tables.
Josh
Yeah.
Ben
Okay. I had such an unbelievable meal. First of all, Ruby had a margherita pizza. Okay. We cut it up nice and small. This boy is eating good. Okay. I had a tuna tartare that was so unbelievably delicious. And I took a risk. Josh, we're at an outdoor Italian restaurant. But I risked it, okay, for the biscuit. And it was delicious. I had a raw zucchini salad.
Josh
Wow.
Ben
Where they julienne strips of zucchini, pecorino romano, salt, pepper, lemon juice, lemon zest, and toasted almonds. I can't even tell you how delicious this was. And there's something about when you order something that's so simple, so few ingredients and so fresh and so delicious. I loved it. Then I went to order the spinach artichoke pizza, which is not like your classic artichoke, that huge slice where it's creamy. This is literally spinach and artichoke on pizza. And the waitress, God bless her, said, you want a dip? Her with that? Do I want a dipper? She's like, I highly recommend our truffle mayo. I'm like, oh, my God, lady, are you serious? So much truffle oil brought me the truffle mayo. 100% truffle oil. Truffles are too expensive. 100% truffle oil brought me the truffle mayo with the spinach artichoke. Pizza blew my mind. It was one of those, like, personal pies. So good right out of the brick oven. The whole meal was a 10 out of 10. I loved it.
Josh
I love that. That sounds great. I think if you have any kind of dipping option, if you have any kind of special sauce and you don't bring it up, we have an issue. You owe me. You owe me back.
Ben
You owe me. Before you tell me your best bet of the week, do you like honey on your pizza?
Josh
I can. I don't need it.
Ben
I think it. I think it's so delicious. And I think I just love honey. I love bread and honey in general, but putting a little. I don't even need hot honey. People go crazy with the hot honey.
Josh
I like that.
Ben
Just a little drizzle of honey on a slice of pizza for whatever. For whatever reason. I love it. Really, I do. And it doesn't need to be hot honey. It could just be regular honey. Did that just make me fat like that? Like, I just want to, like, put honey on everything.
Josh
For sure.
Ben
Am I Winnie the Pooh?
Josh
Yeah.
Ben
Okay, I'm down.
Josh
I'm Eeyore because I'm a downer dog. I'm depressed. Really? Leave in the comment section if I should go off Wellbutrin and try Lexapro. I'm thinking about it.
Ben
Okay.
Josh
So this weekend, I brought my kids to. As you know, there's nothing better. The land of Legos. Lego Land. Wow.
Ben
Ooh. I've never been. And I love Legos.
Josh
Lego's amazing. There's one in New York, obviously. There's one in Florida, so you're covered. Shout out the great Julie, their head of publicity there. She covered it.
Ben
There's a Lego Land. There's a Legoland in New York.
Josh
There is.
Ben
What? Where?
Josh
You better believe it in, you know, somewhere. It's there.
Ben
All right, I got to go.
Josh
Yeah, yeah. There's one in New York. There's one. They just opened one in Shanghai. But I took. It's funny, because when Shy was born, my middle son, I took Max there when he was, like, 4, just turning 4, because the new baby was there, and I was like, let's do something special so he doesn't feel like everything's about to Change. Which it is. And we had a great time. So three years later we went back and we brought little shy. So we drive there Sunday. Beautiful. We stay at the Legoland Hotel. In each room they have bunk beds for the kids. Lego themed. In your room you have a safe. Okay. And then they go, this is a scavenger hunt. Go around the hotel and we'll give you clues. And then you'll find the clues and you'll come back and tell you how to open the safe. There's LEGO boxes in there. Okay. Can you imagine?
Ben
Oh my God.
Josh
This is. And this is not paid by lego. I'm just a fan. I'm a fan.
Ben
I love, I love Legos so much. During COVID I made so many Legos I literally like. And I wanted to like, I know it's a little nerdy. I wanted to like save them. Like I was 12.
Josh
Yeah.
Ben
And Claudia's like, we're not keeping your Lego tree house in our apartment. You know that, right? And I was depressed for like probably like an hour. But yeah, I, I love Lego. Legos are just. They're sick.
Josh
You should have super glued it.
Ben
I thought about it. You should like, where am I putting it? Where am I? Well, welcome to my apartment. Want to see my star Millennium Falcon?
Josh
Hey, these are my X Wing tie fighters. Hello guests. Welcome to Shabbat dinner. This is my Concord Jet.
Ben
Ben, wait. Ben, can I use your bathroom? And why, why is there a Lego Millennium Falcon under the, under the sink?
Josh
Claudia, we had no idea Ben was autistic.
Ben
You didn't?
Josh
That's what they be finding out. That I was finding out that I was autistic at the ripe old age of 39 was incredible. And having. Having my wife diagnose me and then, and then actually ask Chatgpt and they were, they were like, yeah, probably. And I was like, oh good. I'm proud. Honestly. Shout out and it's an honor.
Ben
There's nothing not to be proud of. Okay. Legoland.
Josh
Okay. So Legoland. Right? So my best spite of the weekend and we're going to get all the way back. We, we went to this place, the Carl Strauss. Carl Strauss. I was looking it up on the way. It is.
Paige
Yeah.
Josh
Carl Strauss Brewing Company and they were like appetizers right now because, you know, I'm with my kids who are eating dinner at 4. They're like, it's happy hour. I'm like, oh, get a couple apps. Why not? They're half off. We had. Are you ready for this duck fat pretzel bar?
Paige
Bites.
Josh
Okay. It's done in rosemary peno, and you guessed it, a truffle mayo. And that duck fat baby. God, were these duck. My boys were like, this is so good. I'm like, you're eating this, there's rosemary all over it. I call it green salt because they're not smart kids and. And they eat it. They love it.
Ben
Oh, duck fat.
Josh
Pretzel bites. Yeah.
Ben
Wow.
Josh
Really?
Ben
Sounds delicious. Sounds delicious. Do they sell duck fat separately? I've never thought of that. Just buying duck fat.
Josh
Sure.
Ben
You have to, like, also have duck on the menu. And then you're. You're using the fat from the duck for duck fat. It's like a tiny container of duck fat. You think?
Josh
I think so.
Ben
Wow, that sounds absolutely fantastic.
Josh
Oh, and here I just like, I love when they think of everything. So I'm taking my two boys and I'm like, we're gonna go swimming. Swimming. And my wife was like, joshua, listen to me. She's like, we have.
Ben
Does she call you Joshua?
Josh
She basically. She might as well, because she was like, we have a seven year old who's like, okay at swimming and a three year old who's not great. And you're gonna have both of them and have to watch them. And she knows that sometimes I like to count the clouds. And so she. 784-2963. And so she was like, you have to, have to, have to pay attention to them. And I'm like, obviously, like, it's going to be fine. We get there, we get to the pool. This is the Legoland pool. Four, I kid you not, four lifeguards are on duty. The pool goes for a maximum 4ft deep. And if you're under, like 48 inches tall, you have to wear a life jacket. So it was the. I was so relaxed because I'm like, we are safe here. I mean, I just. I love when they think of that stuff, you know?
Ben
It's very nice. It's very nice. If kid. Look, if kids are going in the pool, there should be lifeguards and you should make it safe. Right? Okay. Parents shouldn't have to worry. Water's scary, Josh.
Josh
Sure is.
Ben
Water is scary. Look, I love that we're topical because I'm going to talk about something else that's topical and it's not going to come out in two weeks and you're all going to say that we were wrong.
Josh
Totally.
Ben
Okay. Did you see that A player on the Miami Heat posted that there is an announcement coming out on July 29 and then took it down. Did you see this?
Josh
It wasn't a player, though. I thought it was like someone in the Heat organization, like, on their social media team.
Ben
There you go.
Josh
Yeah, yeah.
Ben
Somebody related to the Heat did this. So now everybody's like, lebron's totally going to the Heat. And let me just tell you, as somebody that is spending a significant amount of time in south Florida, if LeBron James joins Giannis Antetokounmpo in Miami, it would be fucking ill. What?
Josh
It.
Ben
That's it. That. Yeah, it would. It would. That's like saying, if Giannis and LeBron went to the Lakers, you'd be happy because you get to go to games. Nah, in Jeff, it would be awesome. And maybe, just maybe my whole life, I'm a Kobe fan, maybe I end up rooting a little bit for LeBron. I don't know. What, am I going to go and boo him? No, no, go. I'm going to go. And Giannis and LeBron, it'd be sick.
Josh
He's rootable, but again, it's like him walking onto a super team like he did for the first time, and I'm just like, I think he should retire. I don't. I don't hate a world where we talk about LeBron James a little less. Is that okay? And no hate. It's just like, it has sucked up all. All the air. You have given back so much to basketball, to the world. We love you and we appreciate you, but, like, I think it's time for the next chapter, for the next generation.
Ben
He definitely didn't need to make this, and I think we spoke about this a couple weeks ago. He definitely didn't need to make this a big decision again.
Josh
Right?
Ben
Like, the fact that it's like this, I don't like it either. I do think that going back to Miami, playing with Giannis, he was never going to go and make it hard on himself. Like, it's like the equivalent. Like, you have two choices. You can play on a good team or you can play on a bad team, and you can make the same money. Like, it's from an outsider's perspective, for sure. I wish he never left Cleveland. I wish he just, like, stayed there with those guys. But in the end of the day, why do you want to live in Cleveland on a shit team, right? When you can live in Los Angeles or Miami or wherever you want? Make whatever you want. Like, I think that at this point, I'm kind of over that. And I do think that it would be cool for him to. And with Bam out of bio. It's so funny. We all forget about Bam. Do you. Do you know, Josh, that this year Bam scored 82 points?
Josh
You think I forget about Bam out the baby?
Ben
I forget about him. It was like the. I think that everybody was so pissed that he broke Kobe's record that they, like, wanted to forget about it.
Josh
I can't stop thinking about Bamappo. I love Buchana Beppo. Oh, my God. I had my birthday there once. So fun. Oh, yeah, big time. 26 was the best. Wow, you have a lot of margaritas, spicy rigatoni pasta. We had chicken parms. It's great. Susie cakes, birthday cake, beautiful. Red velvet. So good.
Ben
I'm starving. What are you having for dinner?
Josh
I don't know. I. You know, you were talking about Claudia before and you having to get snacks for her. This is something I face with my dear beloved wife, who I'm lucky to be with because this is what happens, right? I get a text at 3 o'. Clock. What do you want to do for dinner? I'm like, I don't know. I'm like, whatever you want to do, I'll pick it up. She's like, huh? And okay, so now we're in the indecision, right? And this is not good. And now I'm like, whatever. And then I could. I could pitch her some things, but she's going to be like, no, no, no, no. And then I go, this is when it gets really bad. Around 3:30. She goes, Kids ate a lot of junk. We should keep it healthy. This is my face when I read that text. Because now I know it's impossible. Yeah, it's. I'm like, chicken and rice. Like, or. Or sometimes I really do a hack. And I go, I'm getting them smoothies. Like, that's it. Like, they can drink their dinner. I don't know. Like, if you want to.
Ben
If you want to eat healthy, you can't order in, right? You can't. Like, like you can't both have the convenience of having somebody else make your food and deliver it and it be healthy. Oh, sorry. And it tastes good, right? I guess. Like, there's like, your kids don't want sweet green. I don't know if you guys. I'm sure you have Puravita there.
Josh
I don't think they want. Is usually a good option.
Ben
Sure, sure. But like, yeah, if you want healthy, you make it yourself. That's it. That's it. Otherwise, even the I'm sure kava not to put them on the spot. I don't know how much oil they're using. Just when it's mass made, it's just less healthy.
Paige

Ben
Do you know what this is?
Josh
First of all, it's the summer I'm ready to enjoy myself. But I need a cold drink to define me. So I'm all in. Just a disclaimer. Go Ben.
Paige
This tropical butterfly refresher is honestly like an award winning painting. I've never seen any like it. I feel like I'm in East Hampton. It's eight o'.
Ben
Clock.
Paige
I turned to my wife, I said, let's go to the beach. Let's prioritize us. And all of a sudden I see this drink.
Ben
This is. This is it, Josh.
Paige
This is a happy summer. This is a happy summer.
Josh
And you know what? You're in East Hampton. I'm in the carpool line at my kids camp. My wife's frustrated with me. We've been dealing With I can't tell you what, but the truth is I can. I need a little something to pep up my day. Tropical refresher.
Ben
Boom. It's gorgeous.
Paige
This is the pep in the. This is the pep in my step that I need. Josh, can we give this a taste? Let me try this.
Josh
Too late, too late.
Paige
Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God. Oh, my God, it is so freaking good.
Josh
Oh, my God, it is so good. Are you. Are you getting those guava and passion fruit flavors? Coming through.
Paige
That's exactly what I'm getting. This is guava passion fruit.
Josh
You know what they are? Actually, I think they're mango pineapple flavored pearls. Oh, my God.
Paige
Oh, my God.
Josh
I mean, it makes drinking fun, right? Like, I'm so tired of just, like, hitting the straw, getting the liquid. I want a little something, like a little surprise, you know?
Paige
This is the most delicious drink I've ever had. And if you want yours, you can order it on the Starbucks app. Every day I wake up, I put my order on the app, I go, there, it's ready.
Ben
This was literally ready.
Josh
This drink is literally your summer cheat code. It's tropical, it's refreshing, like us. I got a nice thank you here. Sometimes I get a, you know, like a little inspirational quote.
Ben
Ah, Starbucks.
Josh
Wow.
Paige
Delicious.
Josh
So good.
Paige
Unlock all the best summer memories with the tropical butterfly refresher at Starbucks.
Josh
The New York Post has got some pretty wild stories today. Want to hear one?
Ben
I would love to. Is this the New York Post or the California Post? You know, they have a post on both ghosts. I know.
Josh
And they actually feed me the California and I have to switch it over to New York because I'm like, I want the dirty dish from the East Coast.
Ben
I want that east coast news.
Paige
Yeah.
Josh
Well, my wild weekend at the world's biggest and naughtiest swingers convention. There are certain things a middle aged man in New York City is expected to to do after a divorce. And I did every last one of them. So I guess this dude is on like the sex party circuit. But relatable. I've learned that nothing compares to what's going down at Naughty in ns. Another win for Louisiana. Touted as the biggest and best swingers gathering of its kind in the world. Taking place in, you guessed it, N.S. new Orleans. Held in three hotels at the heart of the Big Easy, Nodding in Nalin is billed as an annual alternative lifestyle convention. There are 3,000 swingers, polyamorous nudists, exhibitionists, voyers fetishists and BDSM fans and me. No, sorry. Now there are. Can you.
Ben
Can you ask David if he can book us a speaking gig there?
Josh
Oh, would that be great? Shout out, David, please. The average ages were between 35 and 60. They took up more than 1400 rooms. And couples pay $850 each for the five days, four nights. And that fee allows access to daily classes, socials. 850 a person.
Ben
850 a person for four nights and a sex party.
Josh
Yeah, it's cheaper than a cruise.
Ben
They should be charging eight grand.
Josh
He said there were topless pool parties. There were. Anyway, it gets pretty dirty, Birdie, but all the things you would think happen at a place like this. It's happening. Wow.
Ben
Wow, wow. All right, you go to Paige. I want to go on a swingers vacation. What is she saying to you?
Josh
She'd be like, swing yourself alone. You.
Ben
She would. You tell you, that's what, by the way, Claudia would say something. You can go with your girlfriend if you want. Well, that. That's what she would say.
Josh
You know, I don't think Paige would mind. And we can't cut it out because we're topical, but, like,
Ben
sure. I don't think Paige would mind, by the way. Means Paige would mind. We're not cutting whatever you're going to say to say it with caution.
Josh
Well, we have our new Good Guys sponsor, right. Which has, like, kind of like an intimacy kit, right. Which is, like, part of it. And, like, shout out. Love it. Great. And they were like, oh, we want to just, you know, obviously, we get a lot of the things. Anything that we promote on the pod, we try it because we want to love it. And so they were like, oh, we're happy to send it to you.
Ben
And I was like, okay, I'm not
Josh
one to turn down free. And I, I. But I gave Paige a heads up because sometimes, like, we have our wonderful nanny who helps with meer during the day or, you know, any one of our family members could be at home. I'm like, hey, Peach, just, you know, this is not a normal Amazon box coming. And she was like, oh, God. She just was like, okay. And I was like, I know, I know. But hey, you know, whatever it'll be, you know, we'll keep it in the closet. You never know.
Ben
Hey, hey. You never know when we need a butt plug.
Josh
Yeah.
Ben
Like, you never know. It's always good to have one on hand. What if I lose mine?
Josh
Yes. What if mine falls out during my. My Pilates?
Ben
Oh, my God, that's too Funny. Should we do a moron mail, Josh?
Josh
Yeah, we could do a moron mail and then what Are you nuts?
Ben
Let's do a moron mail and then a what are you nuts?
Josh
Bad.
Ben
First of all, the moron males have been fantastic again. Good Guys podcast1mail.com Keep writing, we'll keep reading. That's the relationship we have.
Josh
True.
Ben
You give to us, we give it back to you. The subject is, should we have another child? Hey, good guys. My husband and I are together seven years, married 18 months. He brought up that he might want to have another kid. I have three teenage kids in college and high school. They're from my first marriage. He doesn't have kids of his own. And this will be from adoption. The only way feasible for us to do this. We are in discussion of all age ranges. When you ask anyone, they say absolutely, go for it. But parenting is always more nuanced then especially when you are just about to turn 40 and it would be essentially start a new starting point for parenting. What would, what would be questions you guys would be asking yourself if you were in this position. Thank you for being a PC of joy in my walks or car rides a few days a week. Sincerely, a moron from Rally.
Josh
My question is, does her husband want a baby or. I think there's a unique opportunity here, which is what you learn from a lot of adoption stories is that as a child sadly gets older, it becomes less likely that they will find a forever home. And there is like an even, you know, there's an even higher level of heaven for the people who look at a child who's 7, 8, 9, 10, who's in the foster care system, who needs a wonderful home and is less likely to get it because many parents want to rear a kid from when they're babies. And so I think if they were like open to that, that could be a really happy medium to go find a child who truly is in need, who's a little bit older, adopt them and raise them. And you know, it's not just starting with a newborn, which at 40 might be harder.
Ben
I completely agree with you. I think that's most logical. You also don't, you don't necessarily want a 20 year age gap between siblings.
Josh
Right.
Ben
You can avoid it because otherwise, even though that will be your child between you and your husband, there will always be this just like disconnect. Right? Like they won't have siblings their age. But if you get somebody who's, I don't, I don't know how old the foster System goes up to. I'm sure that there are kids in there that are like, 13, 14, probably even 17.
Josh
Yeah.
Ben
And so, honestly, thinking about it, like, the older you go, the better I think that that is. That way he really or she feels like a real sibling to the other siblings, and such a wonderful thing that you guys want to adopt in the first place. And I think that that that's great advice. I think that's exactly what I do.
Josh
We're the best.
Ben
We really are. Want to do a what are you nuts?
Josh
I'd love to. Our what do you not? Moment of the week are gripes with people, places, and also things. Recently, I saw a pair of cargo pants at my big five. Big five sports. What's it called?
Ben
I have no idea. Big five sports. Okay, we have dicks over here.
Josh
We have dicks, too, but we also have big five. And I was there, and they were like, there were these working workmen's cargo pants things. And right across in this big sticker on the leg, it said, now with nine utility pockets. What are you nuts? Too many pockets. It's crazy. You know, a couple. A car. You know, you got the two cargos. You got two here. Maybe you got one extra for a pen.
Ben
Nine.
Josh
What are you, nuts? You're pushing it. Let's pocket.
Ben
They're screwed because this is, like, their innovation plan now. It's like every two years, they need something new. They started off with one pocket. Two, three. They're up to nine. Eventually, the pants will be 100% pockets. That's a great wood of you. Nuts, Josh. My woody nuts. I don't know if this is unique to the Hamptons. It certainly doesn't happen in the city, and it's terrible. You check out at a grocery store, they ask you, how many bags would you like? Well, I don't know. How many bags do I need?
Josh
Right.
Ben
I'm not measuring what I'm buying. How many do I need? Well, you know, I think you could get away with a medium and a small, and it's like, what are you, nuts? We've gone too far. I understand that you want to charge me for the bags. I totally get it. I totally get it. Asking me again. It's different if you brought your own bags. I totally get it. Whatever. You're better than all of us. You win.
Josh
Sure.
Ben
If you haven't brought your own bags, you need to give me the number of bags that fit the things that I bought. Also, it would be nice if you got me bags that didn't need to be double bags because if I use a single bag, it will just fall out from under me. Because now you're using two bags, by the way. So how about you stop being such cheap fops and you just have a thicker ply bag? How about you make sure it should be law to have handles? Law.
Josh
Law.
Ben
I have to crimple, crinkle the top and hold it like I'm running away from home.
Josh
What is this, the forties?

Network: Dear Media
In this lively, unfiltered, and “totally uncut” episode, Josh Peck and Ben Soffer dig into summer vibes, the ever-changing landscape of adulthood, relationships, movies, parenting, food, pop culture news, and even swingers’ conventions in New Orleans. The theme: being topical, real, and refusing to hold back (or edit out) the tricky, nuanced, and delightfully ridiculous conversations that define their friendship and the show itself.

The episode is a blend of playful, sharp, self-deprecating humor and genuine reflection on adulthood, responsibility, and the absurdities of modern life (with plenty of food and pop culture talk). Josh and Ben’s chemistry crackles as they dish on their real lives, debate nonsense, and get “topical” with unfiltered honesty—a signature of the Good Guys.
For those who missed it: This episode is a rollicking tour through everyday dilemmas (snacks, parenting, pants), the weirdness of fame (Nolan, Oppenheimer cameos), the oddities of current events (swingers conventions!), and listener questions, served up with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and relatable gripes.
