Absolutely. If you had to describe to our audience in a few words, what is the J. Stevens sound?

J. Stevens sound is very maximalist. Okay. We go all the way out in every aspect of sound. Big production, big vocals. We love dynamics. We love just all kinds of. Just like, playing with the production and the lyrics and the melodies and the harmonies and the vocal layering. I really went there with this album. It's a bit loud, so I'm excited that I threw everything at it and the kitchen sink, and I'm excited for people to hear it. You know, that's lit.

It's still teaching it just to. I cannot be in control of everything. I famously enjoy being in control of everything and doing everything myself, believing that it won't get done the right way unless I do it myself. And a constant lesson that I learn as I progress in my career is the importance of a team. The importance of knowing how to delegate, how to trust, how to network and reach out. And that's been really hard for me.

But I am learning to appreciate that part of the journey and really appreciating the. The results, you know? And I trust like minded creatives, so that's been learned the hard way. When I try to take on everything myself and then it flops.

I mean, personal favorite. I feel like this is my first proper BET weekend. So for me, it's just been being a part of it. You know, as someone who grew up watching all the black excellence on TV every year, being on the other side of it, seeing all the people that go into Making it happen has been really exciting, and getting to talk about, you know, myself and what I do and be a part of the conversation has been really fun, though. I think for me, probably favorite BET moment to watch. I mean, my parents sat me down in front of Beyonce from the moment I started singing. So when Beyonce came out swinging that. That debut solo performance, I mean, I was too young to remember, but I'm sure I was gagged. I'm sure my jaw was in the subconscious. It's in the subconscious. So, I mean, I think that's just like a pinnacle for me personally. But, yeah, I'm really excited for this year's show. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm excited to see what Drew does, especially. I think that's going to be really fun. Just a nice, long, hilarious Instagram reel.

It was not. I was just glad to be a part of the team. You know, I'm a former athlete, so I understand the word team and how important it is. And just being a part of the team was fantastic. Yeah. Now being the leader of the team, it's a different type of role. It's a different type of pressure, and it's a different type of vision. So I'm excited about being here and trying to take the brand to the next level.

Absolutely. What can people expect different from BET Awards past now that you done took the wheel?

Well, we got Drew Ski.

Absolutely. Now, as a, as a person who knows the value of being a team player, how does that evolve into your leadership skills?

Well, I think it evolves in that we have to get everybody on one accord. We have to get everybody saying the same thing, believing in the same thing, acting and moving together. And I think that's what my job is, to make sure that teamwork makes the dream work.

The lesson that I'm still learning is that this thing that we call media is a very complex business right now. You know, the things that we used to do a year ago, two years ago, it's no longer effective. So you've got to change some things. As an example, the BET red carpet show will no longer be on linear television. It's going to be on YouTube.

So one thing I love about this is because it's a company where everybody can win, because this is actually a business that's for the community. I wanted to start this business because I wanted to show people that they can actually heal their body using mother nature. So not only am I winning the business winning, but also the community is winning. So I love it. We have herbal teas. We have herbal supplements. We're all E Commerce. We blew up off of TikTok. Now we're taking it worldwide.

Oh, yeah. So how is that? Because, you know, most businesses Especially when it comes to TikTok, it take a long time. Like you, you always pitch you trying to find different angles to promote different marketing strategy. But what was that moment where it was like, it's popping.

So this what, this is what really got me going. Showing my own personality, showing my face. My thing is my personality and my looks and just my energy is what God has blessed me with. So I use that to market my product. And that's why I tell people, being authentic, showing your personality, showing yourself, that's gonna draw in the audience. That's for you.

So that is actually my main angle. And then once the products start actually being pushed out, we got so many good reviews. People reversing stage four cancer, people reversing kidney disease, stage five, people healing from anemia. So now the tea is just selling itself.

So this actually, it feels beautiful because I've always asked God to like, bless me so I can bless others. And I thought it was going to be through the military. I thought it was going to be through law school. I thought it was going to be through a lot of many different paths, but I was like, nah, this ain't for me. So for me to like jump out there in 20, 21, get divorced, sell a half a million dollar home, leave law school, not reenlist into the military, give up everything, and then for this five years later to be a multimillion dollar brand, that's not only allowing me to live in freedom, but also helping other people to free themselves from disease. Like, this feels beautiful. This feels like purpose and alignment.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Sometimes you got to get to them lowest lows so you can equal the height for sure.

Exactly. And I tell people all the time, I'm not a rags to riches story. I'm actually a very safe to sovereign. Because even when I was working corporate and in the middle, I was living a good life, but I wasn't living purpose. I was playing it safe and I was playing it small. So it's almost like I went from safe to sovereign. And by me jumping out there, like, I've been blessed 10 times over.

So I could have played a small. I could have been an attorney making what, two, $300,000 a year, you know, lying for people like they ain't guilty.

There's no white man. There's no demon. Hell, there's nobody who can stop me.

So I'm just very motivated, and I've done this thing. I left home. I left Jacksonville, Florida, 17, with no money to my name, going to Hampton University on scholarships, hoping that I would make it through. Well, I will say this so, you know, not to bring the show down. My brother got killed when I was 19, and actually, I don't have the chain on with his face on it, but, you know, that's something that life taught me. Life taught me what loss felt like, what pain felt like, what suffering felt like, what overcoming was. The. The journey of digging myself out of that emotional hole. And I will say, it literally taught me what loss feels like. And now I kind of move through life, like, no matter what ill I take, no matter what happens, I've already kind of experienced the most low of lows. So life taught me that early, and life taught me that about 30 years ago. So now, as I approach, you know, 49 years old, I've lived through a lot of other things that I know for sure that I've survived. So. Yeah, that's the one they always use.

Yeah, that's real, bro. That's real. I think the laws, it's like, even though I hurt, it stay with you. For sure.

And then once you get money you realize that that doesn't mean you're successful. That just means you're in a bigger rat race. And then within that rat race is what. Where you find yourself, who you really are, who you want to be. And then once you find that out, you get to your place of. This is like, this is how I want my life to look. This is how I want it to feel going forward. And this is what success feels like to me. Like, success to me is peace.
