Deontay Kyle
Nah. But the in your ear, in the club, in the loud space, that's the worst nigga in the world to be around. Cause he got me outta the club.
Ronnie Jordan
That pretty much got me. I don't even like to go unless I have to or like somebody I'm with doing something paid in there. Yeah, I'm over there rolling up. That's the age of me.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, you aunt.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, I got a gas out. That's how I knew I was. I was like, I guess I'm still cool. I don't know. I don't know.
Deontay Kyle
You know that like being knighted by young folks. Yeah, that's like, that's like. That's a nighting, bro. When start calling you that mean they with you. Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
When it's a girl that look good.
Deontay Kyle
You be like, okay, okay, man. Nah, not me.

Ronnie Jordan
Oh yeah. She see you in unk spaces.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah. You be to be in unc space is like, damn.

Unspace is safety sometimes. Cause she finna want somebody little tap to pay out.
Deontay Kyle
She's finna, finna.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, she finna ding that nigga down. She finna see what you got. Cause you've been showing it. You seen. You showed them big ass balenciagas like three times. She won't see.
Deontay Kyle

Ronnie Jordan
You got the big ones. You ain't got the big.
Deontay Kyle
Nah, I got the New Balance, bro. I've been with the new balance. The same you got, man. Yeah, I'm in a comfortable shoe era. I be icing.
Ronnie Jordan
These are my first new panels. And I put these on like.
Deontay Kyle
Oh, no. I'm trying to tell you, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
I'm Jordans and my feet hurt in the club back in the day.
Deontay Kyle
Real good art support, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, Jordans ain't no good if you fat, man. Like, shout out to the fat dudes that wear the Jordan. All the. The fat dude Jordans are the 13s. That's a good wide shoe. The threes.
Deontay Kyle
The threes, yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
But the new ones got that hard leather. If your foot a little wide, it ain't gonna happen. Like if that. That the right on the side right here with Toby at.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, I think the thing about the threes is like a fat foot hard on the three foot hard on three.
Ronnie Jordan
And if you don't got your toenails clip, if you. If you ain't got your out of place, toenail will paralyze you, bro. You'd be sitting there. Yeah. Working. Have to stop real fast. You're like, oh, God. This connects to everybody. That big toe is connected to everything.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, for sure.
Ronnie Jordan
I don't know what that is about.
Deontay Kyle
That big toe, man. I got my. My middle son, bro. He ain't too, like, he ain't too keen on personal hygiene. Shit. How old is he? He 11.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, 11. They be stinking. But it's either they really like showers or they hate them.
Deontay Kyle
See, that's the thing. My oldest son, he 13, but he got autism. But, you know, it's like what they call high functioning. My boy a clean, a neat freak.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay.
Deontay Kyle
He go in his room. It's like a model room. It don't look like nobody live in that bitch.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay, cool.
Deontay Kyle
And he. Two showers a day in the summer type dude.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay.
Deontay Kyle
You know what I'm saying? Keep her clean. But my middle.

Deontay Kyle
Got him a little girlfriend.
Ronnie Jordan

Deontay Kyle
Yeah. Like he really come home with the man. I got a hug about 8th grader today. I'm like, okay, my boy doing big shit.

Deontay Kyle
Seventh grade. He got a late birthday.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, he got. No, I'm just saying he got a hug from a senior.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, he was like, the homies was over there gassing me. Like, they was like, you need to break up with your girl and get with that girl. He Was like, I don't want to be no cheetah, though. Like, I was like, bruh, you put that in.
Ronnie Jordan
You put that in your kid, man.
Deontay Kyle
We start going hugging and cheating. That really put me back in the space. I was like, damn. I remember when hugs was like. That was big.
Ronnie Jordan
My hug came with a little hunch in middle school. I had to eat.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, you gotta let them know what you're working with.
Ronnie Jordan
Closer grind. And then if she come back, if she grind back on you, you be.
Deontay Kyle
Like, all right, I got me, son. Little football swim move. For real.
Ronnie Jordan
Little swim move. Or try to scoop by move.
Deontay Kyle
I was saying, nigga man is free.
Ronnie Jordan
Hey, man, I was like, all the stuff we did is sexual harassment now.
Deontay Kyle
No, for sure.
Ronnie Jordan
On the party, at the dance, when the girls. You know what I'm saying?
Deontay Kyle
You still like this, but it's not lying. Even like, tough niggas used to dance in the party.
Ronnie Jordan
Tough niggas. Atlanta is a dancing town. Like, people don't know. Like, nah.
Deontay Kyle
N used to live with it and shoot the parking lot up. Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
Even before that, like, yeeking and stuff. Like talent shows would be like, all the girls go in there, but it's finna be a fight. I'm old. I know I'm older than you. So I grew up in the, like, the. My middle school was in the 90s. So, like, if you look at all them old Rico Wade documentaries, all the player had finger waves and perms and silk shirts, silk outfits. But they will shoot the out you. You know what I'm saying?
Deontay Kyle
I think the most dangerous in Atlanta is very flamboyant.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, man, it's like androgynous.
Deontay Kyle
Like, Prince did something to everybody that changed the game.
Ronnie Jordan
Prince had everybody on some. Maybe I do need a tight shit.
Deontay Kyle
Cause Prince was homophobic. But he had his ass out.
Ronnie Jordan
He had. But he dressed. He had his symmetricalness of his outfits was, woman, those niggas.
Deontay Kyle
Nah, bruh. He was beating niggas to the punch. Cause like, now you can't even be a short nigga nowadays. But he beat n to the punch. I'm putting on these heels.
Ronnie Jordan
I ain't talking about them. Talking about them business coat, shoulder pants, them power suits. Yeah, he got the. Prince had the big shoulder pants, the ruffles. It was all he looked. He dressed like Beethoven. Now that we know Beethoven is black, it made a lot of sense now.
Deontay Kyle
No, for sure. Yeah. It was in his lineage for real. That he really just doing what he was doing.
Ronnie Jordan
Beethoven on us. He was way ahead of the game.
Deontay Kyle
And he hooped.
Ronnie Jordan
That was the most crazy we ever heard.
Deontay Kyle
We like, nah, nigga. Real baller.
Ronnie Jordan
Real baller. I saw the post that said they had made a Jordan 11 purple for Prince. One of one. It was for Lure Purple. And they didn't get to give it to him. He passed away. Nigga was selling. It's a one of one exam. He was selling for like 100,000 or some shit like that.

Ronnie Jordan
My kids like Chubb Rock. My kids like old school. My son like LL Cool J and kid and play. I play all the happy rap.
Deontay Kyle
I ain't gonna hold you my son.
Ronnie Jordan
For my nine year old. Cause he wanna be Boss Mandelo. I gotta get it. I can't.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, I gotta balance it. Nigga, you gotta balance.
Ronnie Jordan
You gotta balance it, bro. Like, even my nephews, they older now when they cause the TI was they favorite. And I was like, let's come back and listen to Outkast. Listen to Goody Mob. Let's see where that came from before you. Let's just see. You know, they was like, oh, this is dope too. I'm like, yeah, it is.
Deontay Kyle
So you know I be putting my son on shit. Cause when Scarface had that tiny desk, we had just sat up and watched it together.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, yeah.
Deontay Kyle
And bro was like really pondering on that shit. Like, damn, this some real hip hop type shit. And he came to me like two days later. He was like, dad, I ain't never seen a man cry till I seen a man die. I was like, bro, get out my face. Fuck out my face.
Ronnie Jordan
When your kids got a good sense of, he'll be like, yeah, he hilarious. All right, bro.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, he gonna be straight. That what I'm saying. Don't worry about my middle boy. Cause he don't care about nothing. But like, his teacher said he don't hang out with people who don't got like advanced classes and shit like that. He don't want to be in the projects with like, he like a straight A. He, he a super intellectual. But like, bro just don't care about personal hygiene. So he's got the curled over tongue.

Ronnie Jordan
My dad getting old now. I kind of wish my dad had a secret Patreon podcast so I could go back and listen to the wild shit he was on.
Deontay Kyle

Ronnie Jordan
Ooh, he just got out.
Deontay Kyle
He like, where you at? I was like, I'm in Florida. I took the police on a high speed chase.
Ronnie Jordan
You went on high speed chase with him, Folks, what's the decision before you take off?
Deontay Kyle
I said, look, I'm drunk.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay, okay, cool, good.
Deontay Kyle
Hennessy. That's an oxymoron in itself. Yeah, but I got a cdl. I can't lose the cdl.
Ronnie Jordan
That's your whole family.
Deontay Kyle
I'm like, damn, I'm really a up for real. Like, I really ain't dependable. So I had punched it on them folks what was in. I was in like a 20. I was in a, I was in a brand new Toyota as a rental.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh boy.
Deontay Kyle
I was in a brand new Toyota. When I hit that, I said, oh, yeah, I'm finna loot them folks. I mean, Daytona, so you know, you know the straightaway on Daytona, like when you on the beach line, when you're on the coastline. So yeah, I punching on them folks now.
Ronnie Jordan
Look, he looking at your ass. There you go.
Deontay Kyle
I hit the side street and then I came back out. Now I'm thinking like, I don't know where I'm at, for real. So I'm like, if I hit the side street, if I don't see the lights, I'm good, man. I punched out, I pulled out. They throwing stop sticks out. I said, oh, shit. I'm dodging stop sticks. My girl in the car. So I'm like, I gotta get her back to the hotel. Cause they like, I don't wanna, I'm thinking about all this at the same time. I don't want to get arrested. And they impound the car and she stuck. All I gotta do is get her back to the hotel. I deal with the consequence. I ain't got in the car. I get back to the hotel. I, I, when we pull up, she, hey, hit the left. She said it, we already in it. Let's just do it. So then we get back to the hotel. I said, man, just get out the car, act like you don't know what's going on. And then what we did, and they ain't even like, get aggressive. They was like, man, get your hands behind your back, man. Like, what you doing now? They think I just committed a crazy crime. And I'm running because it's 2 in the morning. Like, why are you going 85 and a 35, right? And then they ain't even. They search the car, they ain't find. They asking her all this. They ain't never giving me no breathalyzer, no name. They would ask me questions. I was like, I don't want to answer no questions. Boom. They ain't never give me no breathalyzer, Nothing.
Ronnie Jordan
For real.
Deontay Kyle
Because they're not thinking, now I'm drunk. They thinking I just committed a crime.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay, got it.
Deontay Kyle
So they like, kinda low key, but I said, it's Covid. So I sit in jail for 13 days because they won't post the bail because I live out of state. So they Won't do the little 10. They like, you got to post the whole. Oh, no, you know, but I'm, you know, I call one of my trap partners. Everybody po that I got you to.
Ronnie Jordan
The trap partners, man.
Deontay Kyle
Shout out to the. That sell drugs. That'll get y'all to buy.
Ronnie Jordan
But.
Deontay Kyle
But you got to pay them back. Hey, look, one thing for sure, you.
Ronnie Jordan
Gotta pay them back.
Deontay Kyle
He's like, he did that. The first thing he asked, he said, but, you know I love you. I know I got you, but you know, my money, that's everything to me. So when you gonna pay me back? I said about give me 60 days.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, as long as you got a plan.
Deontay Kyle
I think they like structure, you know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
They love a structured time. They like to put it in the eye calendar. Yeah, I gotta shoot him on.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah. This don't pay me on March 17th. I gotta kill him.
Ronnie Jordan
He gonna be in your. Your kid pickup lane first.
Deontay Kyle
Long live. No, long live. It gonna be long live deontay. For real. But now I pay that nigga promptly. You know what I'm saying? I even paid him early.
Ronnie Jordan
But you didn't get a dui. No salute to that.
Deontay Kyle
No, that's when I was like, nah, God, real. I don't even drive drunk no more, man.
Ronnie Jordan
That was your last drunk driver.
Deontay Kyle
That was the last one.
Ronnie Jordan
That's what's up.
Deontay Kyle
And I sat in there, bro, listen. And two, this is this thing. I was a fuck up still, like had some of that self sabotage in me, but I wasn't a fuck up in my day to day living. I'm actually doing the working class thing. The family got.
Ronnie Jordan
You relaxed too hard.
Deontay Kyle
One day I just was kicking it too hard. Like we in Daytona, we drunk, it's her birthday, all type of. So yeah, I went a little too hard. But the thing is, they put me in a cell with like a. A real young, like two. Two manslaughter charges, an attempted murder. I was like, all right, bro. Hey, man, this ain't where I'm supposed to be.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, what was y'all talking about?
Deontay Kyle
What he was, ah. He was like, man, what you think? What you think they're gonna do with my case? I said, man, I ain't no lawyer, man. I'm a truck driver. I ain't gonna lie. If you don't want to do no push ups or crack no jokes, I ain't got nothing for you because I. I can't be your paralegal in this. I don't know nothing About I was in there like, I don't even do crimes. I'm gonna keep it real.
Ronnie Jordan
And.
Deontay Kyle
And we locked down like 23 hours a day because it's Covid.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
So it's like. I was like, boy, but I'm so far removed from this mentality, like, of I just beat. I'm trying to beat an attempted murder.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, when you hit somebody else problems.
Deontay Kyle
You be like, oh, oh, shit. All I did was really just take them for a high speed test. I'm very straight. And he ain't like, bro, I don't know what you stressing for. Like your shit sweet, bro. You finna walk like you finna barely traded with you.
Ronnie Jordan
I traded with you.
Deontay Kyle
He would have traded. But I was like, bro, you don't understand, bro. I don't live like this. Yeah, he was like, well, you live like something. You ain't here with me. Valid point, young man.
Ronnie Jordan
Did you get to keep your cdl?
Deontay Kyle
I did. Still got that. Still using that too.
Ronnie Jordan
Hey, man, shout out to all the cdl. They the most fun people. Them the only ones who can afford to do trail ride shit like horses and goddamn four wheelers.
Deontay Kyle
I'm telling you, bro, changed my life. That's why I advocate for trades now. Because you can still be a slick.
Ronnie Jordan
We need plumbers, we need truck drivers. We gonna need them.
Deontay Kyle
We can't do. We do a music submission on the podcast. And a big part of the music submission is like, we gotta weed out all the garbage niggas. We doing a mic to mechanic Pipeline. We put the mic down, pick up the.
Ronnie Jordan
Hold on, hold on. Brother, brother, brother. The community. A lot of y'all gotta quit rapping, bro.
Deontay Kyle
In the wrong booth, man.
Ronnie Jordan
And will stop you on a road trip to get the aux to play terrible stuff, man. Listen, dog, man, we just listening to some. You sending them, so.
Deontay Kyle
All right, listen.
Ronnie Jordan
I don't like this song.
Deontay Kyle
You gotta understand, bro. You gotta understand that, like, I ain't holding no punches. Like, we don't even let get a song off 30 seconds in this ass.
Ronnie Jordan
Come on, man, put.
Deontay Kyle
Put down the mic. Pick up the welding mask and get on your.
Ronnie Jordan
And the welding jackets, ain't that they kind of fresh? A little.
Deontay Kyle
They're kind of hard. Fresh in your blue collar like crazy. You can go dicky on them folks. You can go car hard.
Ronnie Jordan
You can go car.
Deontay Kyle
Get you some steel toe boots, some clean steel toe boots.
Ronnie Jordan
Go to the club in a leather apron and c want the hoes.
Deontay Kyle

Ronnie Jordan
Those are contracted, dude. Those are, you gotta come get me. I'm a specialist type of dude. Like, you know what you gotta pay.
Deontay Kyle
I'm telling niggas like, bruh, you could be a felon and get a trade. So let's just skip the felon part and go straight into the trade.
Ronnie Jordan
But the coolest shit I see just being on these sets, Shout out to miss Pat show. Shout out to my boy Vincent here, Vincent Bryant, one of the writers on Ms. Pat Show.
Deontay Kyle
Shout out.
Ronnie Jordan
Funny, but the cool part I see on set, like, this is my. This is the fifth season. I started, like doing one once on season one and then got into the writers room. Ms. Pat, been knowing her since open mic day. But the coolest I see on set is like, his guy named Walt. He's one of the. One of the. I don't know what, he runs the PAs or something. He do a lot of behind the scenes. But I seen he had his son up there. And a lot of them people got their kids in the movie business, in the TV. But I'm like, this it right here.
Deontay Kyle
That's it.
Ronnie Jordan
Ms. Pat got all her nieces and nephews. I'm like, bro, this is how we. This is how we get the wealth, effort.
Deontay Kyle
When I first came up here, I brought my son with me. I'm like, come, come check this shit out, bro. Cause it's new to me. But you only. You get exposed to it at such a young age. Like, you know, you gotta expose your kids to different shit. For real. Like. But I think, man, we grew up so fascinated with street shit and then so fascinated, like, what's really the bullshit that if you don't really fuck your life up, yeah, it's your responsibility to kind of reach back. Like, bro, don't do this, because this really lame. For real.
Ronnie Jordan
I saw earlier that I ain't want to be a certain type of person because I worked at Longhorn while I was in high school. My dad worked there too, but he was a chef. But you know, just how life working, restaurants, closing and stuff like that. He gonna work. He gonna. But I seen grown men 30 years old that needed this job. And I'm up there playing, doing the same they doing. I'm like, I got a test tomorrow.
Deontay Kyle
Like, nah, this y'all lied to me.
Ronnie Jordan
This y'all life, man. I had a nigga get Mad at me. Cause I. That's why I learned how to. That's why I got funnier in Longhorn in the kitchen. And I'm roasting this nigga, man. This nigga big as hell named Rico Cool. He's like a mild. He.
Deontay Kyle
He.
Ronnie Jordan
He sounds mild mannered, but he's a actually reformed jail nigga. But he a Q dog too. But he will kick your ass. But he's very well spoken. You can't tell by hearing him. And I was saying something, he was roast. He said something about me and being fat. I was like, nigga, this your life. Though when I tell that nigga push.
Deontay Kyle
Me down on the ground.
Ronnie Jordan
That nigga offensive line.
Deontay Kyle
All that nigga heard is, why my style. I ain't be like that. Atomic Dog came onto his head and N attacked you to attack a nigga. In the Long Horse Kitchen.
Ronnie Jordan
We cleaning up too. I got float mats. Nigga push me on all the floor mats. I said, the flow was wet too.
Deontay Kyle
I'm not dirtier than the restaurant.
Ronnie Jordan
So now I'm trying to be tough and my voice cracking and I'm scared.
Deontay Kyle
And you got on non slip shoes.
Ronnie Jordan
I'm like 16. I'm like, oh, you don't put your hands on me. When I called my mama, my mama came with that on two. My mom was a cop, so she had all the guns.
Deontay Kyle
You called 12.
Ronnie Jordan
I called 12 on a N. This nigga pushed me. My dad is saying, what you saying to him.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, dad want to get down to.
Ronnie Jordan
The root of the. My dad work. He know I'm a. He know I'm in that Jonah every night. He know I'm cooking every grown. I'm like, where are your adults? I am cooking these. Bring another one.
Deontay Kyle
Cooking them, running through them. You a 30. You a chef too?
Ronnie Jordan
I just trained you. I'm 16 now.
Deontay Kyle
That got to be embarrassing.
Ronnie Jordan
I sit there doing too much, bro. I would do it too much.
Deontay Kyle
Nigga really had to change the trajectory of life. Like these joke get you up now, man.
Ronnie Jordan
They could push me because I play football. I'm an offensive lineman at the time. So I'm like. I think I'm sturdy in my stance. That n pushed me down.
Deontay Kyle
For real.
Ronnie Jordan
That n pushed me down. I said, my mama finna kill you, nigga. I wanted that nigga to die that day. And my dad was like, you gotta leave these grown alone. You don't know what he going through.
Deontay Kyle
Like.
Ronnie Jordan
And here your ass come new shoes. And I'm just. I'm spending my whole check at Marshalls and riches. You need this shit, bro. I'm going to get some out.
Deontay Kyle
He can't even afford extra curriculum. Everything go to a bill.
Ronnie Jordan
But being around adults, teach you ain't playing with you all the time. You know what I'm saying? So.
Deontay Kyle
No, for real, I ain't going to lie. First time I got, the first fight I ever lost was to a grown man. I was like 19. First of all, this like, he fresh home from prison.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, no, he.
Deontay Kyle
This the thing, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
He either fighting Combine. That's the Combine.
Deontay Kyle
He know all this. All that alto. He know. He know like the 52 blocks. He know all that, so. Hey, look, but his girl finally fucked, though. And I'm 19 and I'm arrogant and I sell a weed, you know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
Like, oh, yeah, you own.
Deontay Kyle
I'm on, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
I'm up, bro.
Deontay Kyle
I got a Metro phone, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
Take that shit to try.
Deontay Kyle
Look, bro, man, that nigga punched me so hard, I ain't see. I ain't see light. Like, I ain't never hit the flow like that before. But my eyes open, I can't see shit. He like, yeah, this what you get. I ain't even try to it. Well, okay, I tried to a girl, but she wasn't going.
Ronnie Jordan
But he heard about it, but he.
Deontay Kyle
I guess, you know what I'm saying? Long story short, that. That be selling you weed tried to me.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, yeah. And then they went home and hard after him punching you?
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
They never had a time.
Deontay Kyle
And then I went to the club with a black eye. I went to prime time with a black eye. Seen her in there. She apologized. I said the only apology I'm accepting this pussy.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, it's either you gotta pull or leave me alone.
Deontay Kyle
Every time I seen that after, that was just straightforward.
Ronnie Jordan
Hey, buddy.
Deontay Kyle
Hey, man, how you doing, man?
Ronnie Jordan
Used to be a pronte.
Deontay Kyle
Hey, no hard feelings, brother.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, man, I used to be a pronte in the booth, though. My boy DJ Silver Knight was in there on the weekends. I used to pop in there. My boy Vince was on the mic.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, with me and Big Cat. Our heydays is Brick squad and figure eight beating everybody up days.
Ronnie Jordan
So this is like 05ish.
Deontay Kyle
0809.
Ronnie Jordan
0809.
Deontay Kyle
Cali. All that like Mario.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, that was like palace, you know what I'm saying? Palace was the kumite. You gotta go. This is where you go fight in the tournament.
Deontay Kyle
I ain't gonna lie. I used to.
Ronnie Jordan
I ain't gonna lie.
Deontay Kyle
I used to Go do. I used to go do open mics at the po.
Ronnie Jordan
The Pool Palace.
Deontay Kyle
No, no, not the pool. South side. No, I would have. I would have specified.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay, cool, cool, cool.
Deontay Kyle
I went to Club Crucial one time, and this the first time. Okay, so like this, when you start learning, it's a difference because we, you know, I grew up in Douglasville.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, so we just acknowledged Douglasville in like 2000. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Y'all just started after 9 11.
Ronnie Jordan
It's like, oh, they out here.
Deontay Kyle
But see, this what I tell. Like, I tell quick. Like, my mama went to west for.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, well, you got to go to.
Deontay Kyle
Your parents lineage to be.
Ronnie Jordan
That's Atlanta. No, no, no, no, no, no. My auntie live on Wesley Chapel.
Deontay Kyle
No, no, no.
Ronnie Jordan
Hold on.
Deontay Kyle
Seriously, though. My grandma live on Stan Road. My auntie live in Oakland City. I'm from Douglasville. I'm never lying to a from the city. Cause they gonna first thing I have. What school you went to, and I can't.
Ronnie Jordan
It's not Atlanta.
Deontay Kyle
Douglas County. Oh, not Doug. You went to Douglas County. Oh, okay.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, that's even worse. It sound like Douglas County.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, I'm not trying to get off them type of lies, bro. Cause the one thing about Atlanta, a nigga from Atlanta is determined to say, you not from now.
Ronnie Jordan
I wish we had that kind of determination for other.
Deontay Kyle
Cause they really do no care. Like, seriously, if you're not as friend. If you're not. If you didn't go to the A P S. School system is dead serious about that. Then if you did go to the high school, what middle school you went to? See, I went to. Goddamn. I went to Sandtown Elementary. Like, all right, bro. Relax, bro. Like, my mama ain't want me to grow up where she grew up, bro. That ain't on me.
Ronnie Jordan
That's what it was. Because we. We lived in Bankhead Court day.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, to you.
Ronnie Jordan
I remember getting off the truck. Nobody out there. And then like, we as we taking stuff in the house, start coming out. The whole neighborhood just watching us looking at, like, taking the inventory. My mama said put it back on the truck.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Put it back on the truck, man. I remember my sister put it all.
Ronnie Jordan
Back on the truck now. I'm not playing. I call her right now. Put it on the truck now.
Deontay Kyle
Unmoved.
Ronnie Jordan
We unmoved. She reset. She unplugged the game and blew the car. No, no, no. We would not.
Deontay Kyle
To unmove is crazy.
Ronnie Jordan
My mama said she was living in one bedroom in a nice neighborhood. Then stay in A big like in the cause the projects to have space.
Deontay Kyle
But live in the projects.
Ronnie Jordan
The projects is like they try to make it too.
Deontay Kyle
We surveyed like that though. Like, let me see.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, it's like it didn't feel safe. It was like weird. This is the 80s. This is. Is like 86, 87, 88.
Deontay Kyle
Some like that crack really doing this.
Ronnie Jordan
Crack is out here.
Deontay Kyle
Crack is King.
Ronnie Jordan
Doing a LeBron run. Crack is out here taking out whole families and aunties.
Deontay Kyle
LeBron and Miami too.
Ronnie Jordan
Like LeBron, Miami.
Deontay Kyle
The Dwayne LeBron.
Ronnie Jordan
Keep a VCR in in the 80s, your auntie gonna steal it. You know what I'm saying? Them years I grew up with an.
Deontay Kyle
Auntie that had a 28 rent and got evicted. So I know.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, real, bro, real. My mom, she was like, nah, man.
Deontay Kyle
My sister unfortunately is addicted to crack in 20, 25.
Ronnie Jordan
How. Where they get it at?
Deontay Kyle
I guess they. She got. She getting the leftovers.
Ronnie Jordan
I thought it was fitting on there. I thought it was. No more cocaine on the street.
Deontay Kyle
I ain't going to lie. There's the. The what she's addicted to is a mystery. I assume it's crack, cuz it started with coke.
Ronnie Jordan
No, it's like the impossible meat.
Deontay Kyle
Run. Come on.
Ronnie Jordan
We don't know what's in it.
Deontay Kyle
Impossible meat is crack.
Ronnie Jordan
It's delicious. It tastes just like possibly toxic. Yeah. 25. Crack is impossible crack.
Deontay Kyle
It's not impossible.
Ronnie Jordan
Don't.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, it's possible.
Ronnie Jordan
It's not the same formula.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, it's some fentanyl in there.
Ronnie Jordan
It's got.
Deontay Kyle
Either way though. When she first got addicted to drugs, it was cocaine. She went to Atlanta. She went to Atlanta Tech and she was finna be. She went to Atlanta Tech for culinary. She was gonna be a chef. Then that turned to her doing cocaine. Then that turned to me.
Ronnie Jordan
For context. People don't know Atlanta Tech is right on Stewart Avenue, which is right there.
Deontay Kyle
It's right there where my mama grew up.
Ronnie Jordan
It's Metropolitan. Metropolitan. It used to be called Stewart Avenue. That used to be like the joke where the prostitutes at. You going to Stewart Avenue?
Deontay Kyle
Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
To college. Right on.
Deontay Kyle
It's right there. Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
I went to like summer program, Upward Bound on Metropolitan.
Deontay Kyle
Well, my sister, my sister went there with big plans.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah. But right out that gate.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that shit. The trajectory changed quick. I was like, damn, why? I'm watching the kids all the time. Why am I like, I don't feel like an uncle. I feel like a baby daddy. Little kid.
Ronnie Jordan
You almost turned to a mama Actually.
Deontay Kyle
You a mom, and I still sell a little weed.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay, you was a trap. You was Ms. Patny Trapping my bro.
Deontay Kyle
Look, bro, the funniest shit is, like, the apartment she stayed in. Will call me, like, bro, you got that? I'm like, yeah. He like, yeah, just meet me over. I was like, bro, you gotta come to the crib. I got my niece and nephew with me, man. You meet me outside the door, you know what I'm saying? And I gotta get back in here and be an officer.
Ronnie Jordan
Did you have, like, mid. Was it, like, popcorn me? Was it fire?
Deontay Kyle
No, I had good mid. I used to get that shit off me.
Ronnie Jordan
It was a thing.
Deontay Kyle
I used to get that shit out Fairburn Road, like, right there. You know what I'm saying? Not Fairburn Road in Douglasville, Atlanta. Fairburn Road.
Ronnie Jordan
Finding good meat will make you sell weed. You'd be like, you gotta listen.
Deontay Kyle
I had that popcorn shit that I used to sell to white people for $10.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Because I'd be like, this is. This is Arizona.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, yeah. Put a backstory to it.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You gotta be sure. Because I'm. Because black people don't care. Is it mid or not?
Ronnie Jordan
Is it mid or not? But actually, mid wasn't called me when we were smoking me. It was just weed. It was just reefer weed.
Deontay Kyle
Well, it was. It was only Mid and Reggie. So is your bro.
Ronnie Jordan
What I'm saying is Mid and Reggie came when we got hydro and all that. Hydro.
Deontay Kyle
See, I started selling weed in oc.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
That's what. Purple and all.
Deontay Kyle
That's when I was like, I'm not gonna make it to the league. Like, I'm too. I'm too funny. I don't care enough about class, but I ain't tall. Right?
Ronnie Jordan
Right.
Deontay Kyle
I don't got, like, the. I don't got the right dynamic to be a up and be successful.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Oh, six got to sell some weed. You know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
06. I would get like a. I would get like a. Maybe a quarter of. Of mid. And then I'll get like a. Maybe an eighth of purple or cushion. Whatever the strong was.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. Because a gram was 25.
Ronnie Jordan
It was expensive.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, it was 25.
Ronnie Jordan
And I will put the loud in the ends of the. Of the mid. Like, but I ain't got that gas. I do.
Deontay Kyle
I ain't gonna lie. This is what I used to do. I buy a gram of, like, kush and then I go to the Petsmart and get rabbit food and crunch it up and Then I crunch and I grind me the. The cush down, put it in qps. I never see.
Ronnie Jordan
These are smoking rabbit food.
Deontay Kyle
No, they ain't. They weren't smoking it. I was selling it to them like that and getting the on.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, and I'm telling.
Deontay Kyle
It's hot. It's. Bro, it's hot over here, bro. Why you. Hurry up, let's make the play. I get the on. I remember one time I knew A was gonna kill me, because he was like. He was like, yeah, I want another one, bro. There's some good. I said, what? A trying to get us.
Ronnie Jordan
Come on back.
Deontay Kyle
He's trying to kill me.
Ronnie Jordan
Come back up here. Where you was at.
Deontay Kyle
Nah, you gonna kill me, ain't you? Hey, but yeah, like, yeah, that's when, like, see, I. I start smoking weed at, like, 27, 28. I'm 34. Cause it's like, oh, this just give me anxiety now. And now you can just buy it out the stove, you know? And I already, like, I don't trust the government. I don't. I'm conspiracy theorist. It's like, y'all gonna let them sell the. That sold you crack. You gonna let them sell you weed, too? I was crazy.
Ronnie Jordan
Good point.
Deontay Kyle
I want my weed from a who need to sell this. Like, he got to have it.
Ronnie Jordan
You know what?
Deontay Kyle
I've been running great customer service, too.
Ronnie Jordan
All my weed niggas now. Cause you gotta have four or five weed meetings. They all are responsible men, and I don't like it like a woman every time I call one. This is always taking his mama to church. I'd be like, bro, stop being a good. And pull up.
Deontay Kyle
Like, pull up with that PlayStation, man.
Ronnie Jordan
He, like, a little younger than me, but he a little. All my weed is, like, older. In their 30s and stuff. They got real life responsibilities, and they.
Deontay Kyle
Got people that depend on us great dads and shit.
Ronnie Jordan
I'm like, these niggas here are great. But what. Cause you, the great dads, are not the most reliable weed man. Cause they can't just pull up where you need them. You gotta have. They'd be like, man, I told you.
Deontay Kyle
On Tuesday, you gotta set an appointment with them folks.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, this got. He the coach of the football team and everything. This is employee of the month at the job he got to do.
Deontay Kyle
For real. He just needed a little supplemental income, you know what I'm saying? Everybody need a side hustle.
Ronnie Jordan
That's what it is. Shout out to the weed man that are good daddies.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, man. I actually. They'll piss you off. But, like, you don't want to deal with the who do that for a living.
Ronnie Jordan
The who do that for a living.
Deontay Kyle
They Sometimes they got good customer service.
Ronnie Jordan
And sometimes the product be off, too. The. The good daddies know you're gonna see them again. They like, hey, this is what this is. You know what I'm saying? It's like Blue Magic. I stand on my product. You know what I'm saying? So, you know he'll tell you to pack. Hey, man, this from. Straight from the plug. This ain't what I had last week, but I'm gonna take this off for you. Be like, see? Thank you, brother.
Deontay Kyle
Bruh, I just said her, remember? Like, why the fuck I brought my sister up? Cause you said that y'all moved the same day I moved. And, like, my sister was trying to do, like, a apartment tour and Collier Heights.
Ronnie Jordan
I was like, what are we call your heights? Okay.
Deontay Kyle
I was like, what are we doing?
Ronnie Jordan
So she went to go look at her apartment over there.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, bro. We from Douglasville, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, oh, she trying to go to the hood, man.
Deontay Kyle
Hell, I said, man, y'all had made it up. She trying to get him. I was like, oh, this is for a fix. This is like, I need to be.
Ronnie Jordan
Right here with the okay. Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
And I'm like, I don't think you should move over here. She was like, I don't think you paying my rent. I don't think I'm gonna watch the kids. Oh. Cause I'm not. I'm not watching the kids in this environment. I'm not doing that to my niece and nephew.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, you finna, man.
Deontay Kyle
Because. Because it's a. Drinking a bowling pin beer. Like, where they. I ain't even know they still sold them. That mean that nigga buy a single beer.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, he bought one beer.
Deontay Kyle
He buy one beer.
Ronnie Jordan
I'm.
Deontay Kyle
No, we're in trouble.
Ronnie Jordan
We're in trouble.
Deontay Kyle
She was like, yeah, we just gonna do a quick little apartment tour. I was like, I don't want to tour this.
Ronnie Jordan
Why don't you? That's crazy.
Deontay Kyle
And then we go in there. She was like, yeah, that's nice. I was like, this actually terrible. Yeah, this is terrible. This is a terrible decision. I'm gonna call Mommy. I ain't gonna lie. I'm telling mom, bro. Mom, she trying to move us to the hood, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
What is that? When the black, Like a lot of people, like, especially, you know, like, second generation out of the hood, the kids be dying to be ratchet. They be dying to be where the bullshit at? They, I think.
Deontay Kyle
I think it's like family reunion war stories. That's what really ride you up. Cause like my. Cause my daddy from New York, but he grow up, like, because of how rough my grandma was living. She moved him with her mama, so he a grandma baby, right? So he live in North Carolina. But like, every time we link up with his family, they be talking about the projects. Oh, we from Brownsville. So I'm like, woo, woo, woo. They used to be telling crazy stories. Now that shit sound fascinating as a kid, right? But it's only sound fun because you made it out of the situation. It's not fun if you was like, my uncle Jeff don't think that fun. Cause he got life for selling heron, right? He don't think the shit cool. But my dad. My dad don't think the shit cool. Cause my dad more like, I'm a squirrel. Like, I'm cool with being a squirrel. My dad had three jobs. That why I was like, I don't really want no job. This seemed too stressful. Yeah, everybody I know that got a job hate their job for sure. So I'm gonna try my hand at the little weed. You know, I'll be listening to Yo Gotti and Gucci. I really could make tandem, you know what I'm saying? I really can make it out.
Ronnie Jordan
I'm gonna plug away.
Deontay Kyle
No, I'm one plug away. I'm one like, you know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
O.J.
Deontay Kyle
The Juice man made this sound fun.
Ronnie Jordan
O.J. juice back outside too.
Deontay Kyle
You hear me? He got caught in on force. I counted with some.
Ronnie Jordan
With some dope. He was locked up.
Deontay Kyle
They caught him in Forsyth county with some.
Ronnie Jordan
That's the most racist county in Georgia. That's why they had it coming out every year.
Deontay Kyle
Oprah did a whole episode.
Ronnie Jordan
They have a clan march.
Deontay Kyle
No is allowed in Forsyth County.
Ronnie Jordan
And I found out that was a black county at first. Like, those black people lived there. They killed them out.
Deontay Kyle
They killed them like Lanier. You know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
That's what, nigga. When you find out the real shit.
Deontay Kyle
You be like, oh, my God, I ain't gonna lie. Like, when you start uncovering racism, you.
Ronnie Jordan
Be like this at your computer, huh?
Deontay Kyle
Just doing this like that.
Ronnie Jordan
You said it to your mom. She like, I did not know that. I didn't either.
Deontay Kyle
What you mean? That used to be called Oscarville.
Ronnie Jordan
That's like Central park in New York, bruh. Dog.
Deontay Kyle
I was like, nah, they'll just put some shit underwater, like. And then White people would be out.
Ronnie Jordan
There fishing, and they'd be like, trust us.
Deontay Kyle
Nah. And then you wonder why niggas just die. Lay Lanier every summer.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, hey, did you see the Trump address the nation? That made the. Yeah. The nation and the Congress, and all them was in there that was holding on them signs.
Deontay Kyle
They was holding them, like, prices right signs.
Ronnie Jordan
No, they was in there. They booed him a little bit at first, like, they.
Deontay Kyle
Ooh.
Ronnie Jordan
But then he shot out everybody. It was weird, man. It was like, is this real?
Deontay Kyle
I try not to.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, he was big enough himself.
Deontay Kyle
I mean, that's Trump.
Ronnie Jordan
He was like, we've done the best ever. He just. He just.
Deontay Kyle
On Joe, here's the thing, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
I learned.
Deontay Kyle
See, I. I learned my lesson the first time. I ain't no hard head, bro. Like, I like, bless you all. I got to be doing this. Sean, one time when we only. When everybody only talked about this every day for four years, including social media, including the news, including the nigga, you know don't know nothing about politics. But I know a. Right now, he working. Americo, this nigga work in the fridge. He worked in a refrigerator 12 hours a day, and he worked a night shift. That mean that man ain't even in sync with the sun. He trying to tell me what's going on in politics when he start talking Trump every day. I know this ain't nothing I need to be paying attention to.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, man. It's getting weird because when he started saying the people that was abusing Social Security and people was filing, they was 100 and some years old, they was 200 years old. It was like they were even saying they were 300 years old. I'm like, how. How the fuck?
Deontay Kyle
Who puts that on paper?
Ronnie Jordan
You are lying, sir. This is a lie.
Deontay Kyle
He just full of shit. But it's like, it's salacious, bro. It's like, it's fun. It's.
Ronnie Jordan
It's like he playing, but it's like, you trying. Are you trying to go to war right now?
Deontay Kyle
No, but that's the thing, bro. He laughing us right into, like, death. You know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
And putting them like, oh, yeah. It seemed like he trying to be down with. I don't know.
Deontay Kyle
He's trying to be down with that. He, like, he liked that dictator. That what it is, bro. It's like, the idea of it. But this other thing, too, is, like, the people that's, like, really for Trump. Look them folks square in the face. Look at. That's for Trump. Squaring. The face.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, they. They getting quiet now. It's a lot of quiet. Regular.
Deontay Kyle
I don't want to hear no regrets. I don't want to hear that.
Ronnie Jordan
You know, the whole. Do you see that?
Deontay Kyle
The.
Ronnie Jordan
The Latinos for Trump. But they was at the rally, them saying was like, he lied to us.
Deontay Kyle
Nah. N is burning the American flag. Nah. This is where you wanted to be.
Ronnie Jordan
You just magging us out.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
This wasn't even a year ago. You was. You was magging us out here.
Deontay Kyle
This thing, bro, don't nobody want to listen to black people. But who know America better than a black person? Nobody know.
Ronnie Jordan
We see it your worst, bruh.
Deontay Kyle
Like, you remember when people were saying, like, indigenous folks? For sure.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, for sure.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. They just. They put them folks in the Great Plains. They was like, yeah, y'all just gone.
Ronnie Jordan
White people was like, no, just show us how y'all be growing this shit. We won't give y'all syphilis.
Deontay Kyle
Hey, to give a nigga a blanket and he die is crazy.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, it's nuts. Y'all gave n smallpox.
Deontay Kyle
Give a nigga a smallpox on a blanket. Infuse the blanket with. That's crazy.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, don't. Roger got it. Listen, go put this blanket on. Go get Roger. Blanket.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. Hey, see this thing, too, though? Like, it was a lot of things where, like, black people was like, we told y'all niggas, like, whatever. And it was like, well, you're next. No, we was first. Like, it was us gonna be first. Us and them people. Us and them indigenous folks. We know what the fuck we talking about. We didn't. We been dealing with these folk for a little minute now, and we expected it. And, like, we expect nothing. We expect nothing but bad from them folk. Yeah, we know them folk full of evil.
Ronnie Jordan
We see what's going on.
Deontay Kyle
These was bringing their kids to lynchings, and y'all talking about Latinos for Trump.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay, yeah, you crazy. That's all right. That crazy.
Deontay Kyle
You don't know who that daddy is, then don't do it.
Ronnie Jordan
Hey, man, but you see the. The how they be trying to. Trying to, like, show us something else to get it off of him. Showing a little boy and, like, made him a service agent and all that stuff. Like, what's this got to do with anything?
Deontay Kyle
I was like, hey, bro, I'm at the point, like, when I can look at something and not understand what's going on. Like, you should be able. Contextually, I should be able to look at something and know what's going on when I'm looking at some shit and I don't know what's going on, it's time me to check out. Cause these niggas on some bullshit.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah. Elon Musk got his son in the White House in the Oval Office, bruh.
Deontay Kyle
Send that nigga back to Africa. That's the Back to Africa program I got. Send that nigga back to Africa, man.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, he tripping. Well, he did the Hitler sign twice. And we know everybody made his face. I said, come on, bro.
Deontay Kyle
They was like, he's autistic, first of all.
Ronnie Jordan
You can't tell somebody who got autistic children.
Deontay Kyle
We be like, that's what I'm saying, bro. So perfect example, right? I was telling somebody, like, my son got autism. Before he present to the world, before he present to his friends, he gonna practice it on me a hundred times. That mean that nigga in the mirror, just hitting that shit. Hitting that. He hit them folks in that.
Ronnie Jordan
He did it twice. He hit it twice to make sure.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, just to make sure.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, It's. They were. They're very particular details.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. Because they gotta. It's. It's a mind. It's a mind to body thing. They gotta have everything in sync. Like. And then it's also, like, there's. So how. How was your son when he got diagnosed?
Ronnie Jordan
When he was like. So what happened was when he was, like. He was speaking. When he was like, one, he was saying he was, like, on the track. And then he just stopped talking for like a year, year and a half. And then out of nowhere, he could read like he was like two and a half. Like, he wasn't talking.
Deontay Kyle
They was saying he was hitting all his milestones. That's what they were telling us. Like, he's hitting all the milestones. He's got good vision. And then he did literally just stop talking. And then one day, he could read.
Ronnie Jordan
That's what it was.
Deontay Kyle
Crazy, because I was telling my girl, like, he ain't like everybody else. Like, he be underneath the sink.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
And listen, dog, it's quiet, though. It's quiet. Like, I'm like, damn, you took our car. Should be at work. I'd be like, you got the boy with you? She's like, nah. She's like. I be like, it's too quiet in here and he ain't here. She likes the dolo. I was like, I mean, he, too. He can't get to the door, but it's quiet. You go look underneath the sink. This in there with a pot on his head.
Ronnie Jordan
Dada.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, what's up, Dada?
Ronnie Jordan
I said, it was taking shit apart. He was taking, like, taking screws out of the remote, all that.
Deontay Kyle
All that stuff. Like the teachers used to. But, like, when he just popped up reading, it was crazy. Cause it's like. Then he just. He never stopped talking. But he was just very selective about what he said.
Ronnie Jordan
We was in the car one day, he was like two or something, and he was like. He wasn't talking. He was just making sounds. And he said, look, dad, they moved to Michael's over here. I was like, you can talk and read.
Deontay Kyle
Like, no, that should be crazy. Because the teachers used to be like, he won't participate in group reading. He won't sit on the carpet. But when I asked him about what we read, he know everything. And then he. Over there, spelling helicopter. And he's four and these. I'm trying to teach these kids how to spell cat. This. Spelling helicopter and all this. I'm like. I was like, we need to go get the diagnosis. But my girl at the time was like, really, like, weary. And I was like, you just worried about appearing normal. And we don't got time for that.
Ronnie Jordan
We gotta get this for help. Yeah, it's for him.
Deontay Kyle
Cause, like, we need to know what we dealing with. Cause, you know, they have, like, a thing about abstract concepts, all these different things.
Ronnie Jordan
Well, they put my son on Adderall at first. Cause he was like. He would be acting out in class and stuff.
Deontay Kyle
We tried the medicine stuff, too, but.
Ronnie Jordan
I didn't like how they had him. He crashed. He would be fine, but he would crash his own.
Deontay Kyle
Did he have, like. Did he have, like those angry outbursts.
Ronnie Jordan
Type shit he was doing that was trying to get him to do that? But it was like. I found out later people was fucking with him or somebody would do something to him.
Deontay Kyle
That's when he'll black the fuck out.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, it wouldn't be a blackout, but he would react. And then they just see the reaction. But, like, when we decided.
Deontay Kyle
That's the fucked up thing, too. They never talk about the people that are fucked with them. Because kids is very astute. Like, they see what's going on. You ain't like us. And that's what my son was dealing with. So he was doing with a lot of fighting, but he always getting in trouble. And it's like, y'all policing the reaction and not the aggressor. Like, that's fucked up.
Ronnie Jordan
Cause they normally mind their business. Most autistic kids don't give a fuck about what you got going on at all. They don't care. But minding his business is just it. Just like I like that he mind his business, but sometimes I have to make him connect with the family. Like, come on, let's go watch a movie. Let's do something together. That's my youngest son getting mad cause his brother don't want to play with him. I'm like, he be doing his thing in there. But now he got his. Like he makes, he loves Transformers. He collects Transformers. He got probably 10, 15 bumblebees of the same one. Like different ones. He loves all the movies. He takes them apart, make new ones. But now he makes stop motion movies with his Transformers with his iPad. Taking still pictures, moving them. And he does. He loves the Dogman comics. You know those.
Deontay Kyle
My middle son is the Dogman dude. My oldest son is like more into graphic design and like not stop motion, but more like creating art on the computer. Yeah, like he made. When he was 10 years old, he probably made eight bands on YouTube because he had, he did a, you know that Nickelodeon, the Kolasky Scoopo shit. It's like, it's an art production company that be in tandem with Nickelodeon. And he was doing recreations of that in his own design and style.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, that's hard.
Deontay Kyle
And his shit went viral, like 2 million views. He made like eight bands. But I ain't touching money. I was like, here, you do what you want. He bought like a souped up ass computer.
Ronnie Jordan
From what age was this?
Deontay Kyle
He was, he was 9, 10 when this happened. He 13 now. He'll be 14 in September.
Ronnie Jordan
I haven't put any of his stuff on YouTube, but I kind of want him to tell me when he wants to share. Cause he real. He don't even like to show us a lot of times and stuff.
Deontay Kyle
Right.
Ronnie Jordan
So I'm like, I'm real weird when.
Deontay Kyle
The autistic child want to share some shit. You all ears? You like? Yeah, what's up? Let me know what's up.
Ronnie Jordan
He also, he writes, makes his own Dogman comics of his. He makes his own stories up.
Deontay Kyle
That's hard.
Ronnie Jordan
So he'll take a bunch of papers, staple them together, draw the squares and he makes, he writes stories. So I'm like, you know, I'm a writer too. So I'm like, yeah, look, keep these up.
Deontay Kyle
I read them with them.
Ronnie Jordan
So I'm like, yeah, you gonna, you definitely gonna be in the family business. We. I wish somebody had told me to start writing when I first started comedy. I had to. I Had to stumble into the writing, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I was just. I thought you just rip and then somebody, a white come get you and you be rich. I thought you said rich.
Deontay Kyle
Thought you just had to be funny.
Ronnie Jordan
Real rip, rip. And then somebody said, hey, you want a TV show pilot? Come on LA. You know what I'm saying? We gonna give you 500,000 or something.
Deontay Kyle
You know, that's crazy.
Ronnie Jordan
That was what was happening until like, Rodney Perry put. He pinpointed one time. He was like. He said, Rodney Jordan should have been gone, but they had that writer strike that year. And then autumn reality shows took off and I was like, oh, that is the years that. You know what I'm saying? That it would have been. You know what I mean? Cause I was in LA doing shit and it's just like adapting, man. You kind of gotta be like water. It's like, well, you was. You was just to.
Deontay Kyle
What's going on social media. So you was really like, you do stand up, you get your big break on like. Well, the white version of his Letterman. But whatever that is, it's like you work your way up, you get a show and then you out of there.
Ronnie Jordan
Get a show, you out of there.
Deontay Kyle
But you had to go. So you've been in it long enough to see where I ain't gonna. I'm gonna ask you though, how was that seeing, like, people blow up, which may seem like a shortcut where they ain't never did stand up, but they was doing videos and you just ain't even no old head hating that when you know that exists too. Niggas be old heads and haters, but you seem like you more so embrace the younger comedians and like, kind of integrated yourself with them and. But you come from, like the OG days of, like, having to go and get it on the road and go to open mics and do your thing and make a name for yourself for real, before anybody want to even see your face. For real.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, it was just about me fixing myself and how I saw the world and how I. Because to me, comedy is a blessing. It's like, if I can live and maintain like this or do better, it's fine. Because as long as I don't have to do no, I don't got to work no job that I hate. I'm always find another hustle. I'm always find money. Money always come. And I just. I do a lot of colleges and stuff like that. I was doing that for a while, but I. When the social media Started popping. I was like, all the communities at first like, who are these? But I was like there for maybe 30 seconds. I was like, wait a minute, what we mad at? I had to just sit down and be like, what are we mad at? Are we mad that they know who they fans are? And then they giving their fans what they want? We just ripping to all everybody and hoping people come back. They like, I'm gonna be here every week with something for you fans. And I'm like, oh, they got better analytics.
Deontay Kyle
That's all it really was.
Ronnie Jordan
It was. Yeah, just like, it just clicked to me. Like they just bringing people back to them and they. They get people to come to the shows. And one of the first people that I. That reached out to me actually, and we got really cool. Mr. Bank Shot. Shout out to my boy Bank Shot. And. Cause he was saying somebody was trying to book him for a show and he was like, is this dude legit? Da da da. I'm like, yeah, he cool. And he was like, could you help me out my stand? I was like, yeah, could you help me out with this skit shit? I don't know what the fuck going on. You got to. It's something you gotta admit. You don't know what's going on.
Deontay Kyle
You know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
What is going on? So I just know you gotta. This phone gotta be your TV network. I knew that for enough of that. So I did a bunch of skits with him. But then just getting cool with him, a lot of the younger comedians will reach out to me or if I see somebody go viral or something funny, especially if they from Atlanta, I will send them a DM like. You doing stand up yet? Do you have a set? You should have a set. They coming. Cause I know like seeing the pattern, it's like soon as somebody blow up, like to a point where it's undeniable, they gonna be on the road. But I don't want. I just don't like the people to go on the road unprepared.
Deontay Kyle
Right, right.
Ronnie Jordan
But a lot of times they had to like, I think Country Way had to get ready on the road. He was booked from the jump. He was on World Star and he got better as he did his shows. And I was like, oh, that's hard. You know, you get better in front of your fans. That's a dope thing. So, yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Cause he really broke. He broke a barrier.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, he's a groundbreaking. But he. The cool part about him is he came on every platform and told everybody the Game. He was like, I do this, this and this because you know, like you said, anybody gonna do it, right? So you know, he got his own network and stuff, which is cool. I'm on, I'm on a show on his network. He'd do like a food hall sketches and stuff. It's pretty funny. But I just, I just knew that I wasn't. And I need, I wanted to be for younger comedians what I needed the older comedians to be for me.
Deontay Kyle
Right, right.
Ronnie Jordan
Cause a lot of times I had some mentors, I had people to help out and tell me shit. But a lot of times she would be so guarded and tight lip like wouldn't share the promoter number with you. Like you had to go find a promoter's number to go do some shows. Or like the promoter will be looking for you and somebody still won't get his number. It was like that going on from people you consider your friends and stuff like that. So I was just like, what did I need somebody to be for me? Like just cool. Like tell me some information, connect. Like sometimes it ain't got to have nothing to do with me. If you need, if you need something I can't do, I say my boy Vince could do this or. Cuz I know blessings going to always come back. Cuz this is what I put out there. I put out. I want everybody to do good. Like I love, I love that we doing this. It's like we all rappers, the comedians. Yeah, it's like we all rappers and we out here all. Everybody got their own label. And it's like, we black, bro. We got to win. This is not easy.
Deontay Kyle
I think, I think naturally, like my mentality towards it is like, if I win, I'm gonna keep winning. Like if I already done broke through the door, I'm in, I'm in this bitch, right? Like I got a homeboy. He was like, man, I gotta. I just did my cyber security shit. I got a certification. He's like, you know, I hate to ask you. I'm like, bro, just what you. Please ask me what you need, bro. He was like, you know, you got a vast audience. You think you could get me, you could reach out and see if anybody can help me get a job. Cause I'm trying to get my way through. I was like, yeah, for sure. As soon as I reached out, somebody was like, I got him. Like, send me his information, send me an email. I get interview set up, I do the interviews and I get him passed through on the strength of you. He like, appreciate it. I Said, bro, what the I'm gonna do with that. What I'm do with the cyber security information? I don't do cyber security. I got a podcast.
Ronnie Jordan
I think that was the. The enemy's biggest trick to separate us. I think that was the biggest trick.
Deontay Kyle
We don't want to see it. It make it this individualistic thing where we don't want to see other win, but we'll say we do. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? But it's like. And also like that self made mentality. Like nobody really self made.
Ronnie Jordan
Nobody self made.
Deontay Kyle
Nobody's self made, bro. People along the way, you know how.
Ronnie Jordan
Many times I was down bad and somebody called me with, with a good check? Yeah. Like I needed that.
Deontay Kyle
Like, yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
Shout out to 85 South. Anytime some writing come up, them sit. Like, I don't know if they. I don't know what process they went through. Got your number from los, got your number from Joe. I'm like, thank you. I call him and say thank you all the time. But I just. Because it's like you don't never know what somebody going through. You know what I mean? But.
Deontay Kyle
Well, then also too, if we, if we exist in the ecosystem, then it lends to itself. Like, it's just like any other ecosystem in nature. It's like one is necessary to the other. Like, you take one out, you fuck the whole thing up. So if we create an ecosystem, we gotta lean to each other. Like you supposed to win. Cause naturally, if you're a good nigga, if I put you on and you win with that, when something come along that you know is for me, you gonna put me on and I'm gonna win with that. And then we just keep winning and we just funnel other people in because we know what the standard is. Like me and Big Cat, we have a standard of quality. We don't put out no bullshit. We done had episodes where we 45 minutes in, he like, this ain't it. He'll call it. Like, he don't even be on camera. He just be like, this ain't it. And he was like, well, he know Saturday and Sunday we record. Yeah, those are two days. We normally do one a week. And he'll be like, shit, we'll try again tomorrow, bro. This ain't it.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, and it's kind of like trial and error too. Cause a lot of times my early career on, when I start doing those NACA shows, that's the. You go to this big event and all the colleges come to it and you showcase and they pick you. And like the first time I did it, I got like 40 dates at one. Then I had another showcase the next day. So I had like. I left on a Friday, came back Saturday with 80 dates. You know what I'm saying? And then my agent was like, you want us to space this stuff out? Like, no, run it up. I'll never say that again. I did like 115 shows in 105 days.
Deontay Kyle
I seen that on your website.
Ronnie Jordan
I was like, yeah, it was just one year. And I was like, you're a trailblazer.
Deontay Kyle
Low key.
Ronnie Jordan
I never do that again. But it was like.
Deontay Kyle
But you did it though.
Ronnie Jordan
Two schools in a day. Three schools in a day. But it was lonely as shit though. It was.
Deontay Kyle
But also you gotta taper your. You gotta censor yourself a little bit to go to do the college's thing too.
Ronnie Jordan
Sometimes you do. Sometimes you have to censor yourself to do the showcase. And then you get to the school, the kids is there, the administrator ain't even nowhere in sight. They be like, say what you want to. Some schools like HBCUs a lot of times don't want you to cuss. Cause it's like they Christian founded schools and stuff like that. Or you know, like you do with Morehouse. I done did Spell House homecoming and they do the show in the Martin Luther King chapel. It's a sacred place to them. But they told us not to cuss. One year Only reason, because the day before that they done booked Miguel in the same room and they was like, they told him not to cuss. First song he do tell me is that pussy mine? And I was like, that's what they gotta do with.
Deontay Kyle
Then they got a song called Mile High Club.
Ronnie Jordan
Like what we doing Mig, bro, you book Miguel. Miguel came that did a.
Deontay Kyle
A flying leg drop at the MTV video was on. You remember that? You remember he hit shorty with the leg drop? Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
He was like, billy, yeah, man.
Deontay Kyle
So. But I know you said you was like, you was doing the roasting thing. You like, you always been kind of funny, naturally. But you was in athletics too. But how did you. When did you make decision like, I'm gonna do comedy.
Ronnie Jordan
I was in college and I was always, you know, in high school I got wittiest or some like that one of them superlatives. But I was in college, I had an apartment, we was off camp, me and my boy Vis and I had broke up my first little long term girl. You know your girlfriend you have after high school, the first one you Took that rope on.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
We had broke up, but she. I think she started talking to a. At the airport, but she was acting like she wasn't. So I was in the room sick, basically. I'm in the room just fucked up. And my homeboy like, man, get your ass up. Like, he let me do for two days. He's like, get your ass up. So in the room, I'm in there writing jokes in my little book. I got a little book in there writing jokes. And then I come out of the room, I'm like, I think I want to go to open mic. And he took me from West Georgia all the way to Terry Boulevard. Hour and some change. Ride in his Geo Metro hatchback. Two big twelves in the back. But got to know that we ended up blowing it down. We had to. Took me to my first show, man. Jay Paul's on Terry Boulevard. It ain't there no more. It was, you know, and I went up and did good. Came back the next week, but Henry Welch was hosting the first day. I went up, man, and then I ain't had no jokes. I just started roasting people in the crowd. But I had a way of roasting would make you laugh, too. I wouldn't be so malicious. But I point out something, and we just. I get to talking, and I'm roasting this comedian, bro, and I'm killing. And then Henry Webster came up and said, damn comedians. Roasting comedians. I said, oh, shit, he was a comedian. When I tell you this nigga talked about me for 30 minutes. And even if he wasn't talking about me, he was like, ain't that right, fat boy? Lesson learned, sir. Yeah, yeah.
Deontay Kyle
I got so.
Ronnie Jordan
So that's when I had to get some material. But it was like those points in that going up in that J. Paul. So I think my second time doing comedy, I used to work at the TGI Fridays in Douglasville. Cause I went to West Georgia at the time I transferred from Fort Valley. And I think the second time I did comedy, I had the whole fucking TGI Fridays. And the white people in there, they all drove an hour to come see me. And yeah, I did. Matter of fact, I think that was the second time when the dude roasted me. That was my second time doing comedy. And everybody saw him cook me. But my homeboy was like, nah, you did good. Good.
Deontay Kyle
So, yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, man. It's been on ever since I started going to Uptown.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. I was gonna ask because how do you get from. I only can see it as it works now. Like as it works now is like, you gotta prove yourself on social and. Or I mean, I guess naturally, if you already doing stand up, it helps with your tickets or help you get opportunities if you go viral for a joke or something. But how does it work in the sense of, like, you go from doing open mics to, like, being on comedy? Cause, like, I'm gonna keep it real. Like, I was geeked up. Like, when he told me, like, oh, I know Ronnie Jones. I'm like, n. I used to watch that nigga when I was a kid. I like that nigga funny as fuck. Cause you was doing the Kevin on stage. Yeah. What was it called?
Ronnie Jordan
Keep your distance.
Deontay Kyle
The keep your distance during COVID Yeah. I'm like, bro, he end up smoking everybody. He funny as fuck, bro. Like being funny.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, well, shit, it still works the same a little bit. Getting there early to the open mic and putting your name on the list is kind of pretty much the standard. But I remember I didn't get there on time in Uptown. I tried to go up my first time going up. I went to uptown first and didn't get on. I sat in the crowd. I had to watch the show. And the Earthquake was hosted. He was just guest hosting. And he was like, damn, is anybody funny in here? And then I heard a nigga say, meet. He was in the row ahead of me. It was K Dub. That nigga came from the crowd and did a joke up. That bitch ripped. Oh, that's when he started. He started that Sunday. I started that next Thursday. So the list was my thing. And then I would start going to, like, older conferences, start taking me on the road. They'd be like, I got South Carolina this weekend. I got 100 for you. Come just, you know, I ain't got to pay for nothing else. I'm making 100 bucks to talk for 10 minutes. Deal. You know what I'm saying? I need to travel, leave. And I was having to take. So that was like. I was the $100 when I first started. Yeah, I go to Germany for $100, but I got.
Deontay Kyle
$100. Used to be real money.
Ronnie Jordan
Real money in the goddamn 01. I started in 2001 and, you know, just everywhere then I had to start charging more. 200, 300. So I'm getting about 3, 400 a show. But I'm still working. I'm on academic probation in college. I met West Georgia, but I'm just living in an apartment off campus and I'm working at this oatmeal steakhouse in Fayetteville. It's like a meal outside. Like a river running off of it. And my dad was the head chef there, so. There too, and trying to, you know, going back and forth, doing standup. And I had, you know, it was just a lot.
Deontay Kyle
So was y'all folks supportive of that, like. Cause that's hard, though.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah. Cause my mama was like, you need another plan too. Like, you need something else.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. But Pops was kind of putting you on, like, shit.
Ronnie Jordan
So I had to move back in the crib. Cause we department. I, you know, I wasn't in school, so I moved back in the crib. But he made it hard to be comfortable at the crib. Like, how? Like, trying to get you out the nest type shit.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, I would work a double or something. And he'll like, I'm sleeping in on Saturday. This will come in at nine in the morning. Cut the light on. You gonna sleep all day. That's the type of black folks shit, though. Period. You gonna sleep all day. I don't sleep all day in my shit. Like, he one of them. Like, I don't sleep all day.
Deontay Kyle
Granny used to have me, like.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Cause my grandma used to stay right behind Seven Courts. So, like, when she moved from the park at Lakewood, she moved right behind Seven Courts. And I used to use her crib like a getaway type shit. Like, I'm getting away from all dudes. Like, they people. What you're doing is trying to make me get a job. And, like, I'm gonna go ahead and kick with Granny now. Granny had me put me to work around the house.
Ronnie Jordan
You was trapping out over there too?
Deontay Kyle
No.
Ronnie Jordan
Okay. I'm saying you ain't crazy.
Deontay Kyle
We ain't disrespect Granny. You know what I'm saying? I smoke a little weed. She's like, you can come in here smelling like. You can't come in here selling it.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
So straight up, I respect Granny. You know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
Granny knew what you would do.
Deontay Kyle
She knew what time it was. She was like, I had a vision. I had a dream.
Ronnie Jordan
No, Granny, when I let you buy a bag from your ass, she said, somebody up there. Yeah, yeah. Go up there and see if he'll give you a quarter. See if that boy give you a quarter, then see what happens.
Deontay Kyle
But, yeah, I, I, I go over there and kick it to get away. But like, Granny was on some, like, if the sun up, you up, that type. So it's like seven in the morning. You got to be up.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah. My dad tell me to do yard work. I'm like, I worked 17 hours yesterday with your ass.
Deontay Kyle
I'd be like, grandma, it's seven. She like, I've been up since four reading the Bible. All right, well, she.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, but my dad was making me a man and making me responsible and knowing that I can't kick it. Ain't no kicking.
Deontay Kyle
You can't kick it, though.
Ronnie Jordan
It's no kick it, bro. Like, my parents always been on some training me. And, like, me and my brother, like, when I worked at Longhorn and I tell y'all, working at Longhorn, I was spending all my money. My mom would take half my checks. She was like, you. My mama was taking my check.
Deontay Kyle
She was confiscating my Christmas.
Ronnie Jordan
Got half a check. Boom. Just so you know, you cannot blow your whole shit on clothes.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, my mama just put me on a buyback program. Like, I get my little check from Crystals. She like, I need that. Like, I need half of it.
Ronnie Jordan
My wife swear I was abused, bro. I'm like, no, that was responsible.
Deontay Kyle
I mean, it's responsible.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, but you in there at.
Deontay Kyle
It's financial abuse now.
Ronnie Jordan
Not really. Because if you 18 and you a big. I'm a big, big kid. I'm tearing that refrigerator, nigga. I'm wearing that Laura Lynn out.
Deontay Kyle
My parents ain't gonna lie. I ain't. I wasn't no big kid, but I was a high kid. I mean, I'm in a cutting of the Tyson Chicken. Put that in a tortilla, we end up buying all Lori, I'm in here. All type of shit up.
Ronnie Jordan
Shout out to everybo who grew up shopping at Ingles. Everything Laura Lynn in your house. I was up Laura Lynn.
Deontay Kyle
I was a great value type. Like, great value came later.
Ronnie Jordan
But we. We live right by Eagle. So it was.
Deontay Kyle
That's why my called grits and ass. That was my go to, like, bro, I'm. When I stayed with my pops, like, my mom had left. Like, we stayed in Wilmington, North Carolina. They had split up. And she was like, you know my daddy type nigga. Like, you don't see I'm out here working. I'm working. I'm taking care of the kids. Woo, woo, woo. She was like, all right, you love the kids. You take care of the kids so much. You got them.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Came to Atlanta. I'm gonna go.
Ronnie Jordan
Atlanta claimed so many.
Deontay Kyle
She from here, though. She said, I'm gonna go back live.
Ronnie Jordan
With my mom, back to the house.
Deontay Kyle
I'm gonna go back to the crib. So we Went.
Ronnie Jordan
It was just. How many of y'all was it?
Deontay Kyle
It was three of us. So it's me and two sisters. She just like, she told us like, I'm gonna go get my together. Left us with pops. Pops don't know how to cook nothing. Like, bro, we eating, we eating, bro. My pops taking us to Cici's Pizza, ordering one meal. Me and my sister busting down the mill and we sneaking him plate. Then my pops made a big ass pot of spaghetti that last three, four days. He taught me how to make grits and eggs. And he was like, bruh, if you, if all else fails, ain't no TV downer, it ain't no sandwich meat, ain't no hot dogs. You fuck with these grits and eggs, you're gonna be straight.
Ronnie Jordan
So you grew up a truck driver types? No, it makes his own.
Deontay Kyle
No, no.
Ronnie Jordan
When I saw this, I saw your story doing like.
Deontay Kyle
No, my granddaddy was a truck driver too. I was always on the path. You know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
You had your cdl Big Wheel license.
Deontay Kyle
No, for real.
Ronnie Jordan
I was always headed there.
Deontay Kyle
The mid was just a little pit stop. I was gonna be in that truck.
Ronnie Jordan
Get something warm on your stomach.
Deontay Kyle
But look, my dad was like, look, I don't know what to tell you, man, but see Grinch and as will.
Ronnie Jordan
Help you through them, bro.
Deontay Kyle
Nah, listen, bro, that's a solid meal, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
If you got a little cheese, you balling, bro.
Deontay Kyle
Listen, I'm gonna keep it real with you. If you bust down a hot dog in the middle and fry that in the pan, you straight. You up.
Ronnie Jordan
You know this. You know this. New. I hate to say new generation, but they have demonized the hot dog.
Deontay Kyle
You can't eat a hot dog.
Ronnie Jordan
Sexualize the hot dog.
Deontay Kyle
Look, I'd be eating a banana. If I'm eating a banana, I'm breaking that.
Ronnie Jordan
Like they had. They got like the best cooks at Miss Pasture. The crafty. They had like Mexican sausages and I like. But no glizzy for me.
Deontay Kyle
Nah, we can't do the glizzy.
Ronnie Jordan
Anything that's always gonna be somebody be like this. Look at that goblin. Goblin dick.
Deontay Kyle
Look at this.
Ronnie Jordan
Look at uncle Hit knock down two blizzards.
Deontay Kyle
Ain't she hungry?
Ronnie Jordan
Unc just put mustard on me. Only goddamn just disappeared that I can't have it. I. I eat hot dogs under a bridge over with a sheet over me like a troll. I have to be hidden somewhere.
Deontay Kyle
I ain't going to lie in a safe space that got that, that got to come Fresh out the grill. For me not to give it to.
Ronnie Jordan
You have to grill it.
Deontay Kyle
You got to grill it. And I'm putting. And I'm putting baked beans on that. Like, this is not a regular hot dog.
Ronnie Jordan
We are so tired. We are so traumatized from Tik Tok and Instagram that you could be at your own house house and make your own hot dog. You're gonna look around, bro.
Deontay Kyle
I'm not making those, bro. To make. You can't make a solo hot dog in the crib. My kids be eating hot dogs.
Ronnie Jordan
I'd be like, my oldest son don't eat hot dogs.
Deontay Kyle
I started to bring up the process. I'd be like, you know how that made. Let me show you. We gotta get the glazes out the house.
Ronnie Jordan
He'll eat a fried bologna sandwich. He won't. With no hot dog. Nah. Damn.
Deontay Kyle
It's the same for real. Nope, man. I'm telling you, bro. Like, so. So now you. You go through the motions of comedy.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
And then the stability of comedy is that it's either touring or, like, a writing job or something like that.
Ronnie Jordan
It just depends on what kind of person you are and, like, how early you caught on to making some money. Cause I think what helped me out was I was leaving college. I was only, like, 21 when I started, so I have no other. I ain't had nothing to pay for. I had nothing to be responsible for. I was just. I had a girl, me and my wife was together, but we didn't have no kids. We weren't married, nothing like that. So I just started hitting them. 300. So a who make consistently $500 a show can still make a good living at comedy. Like, especially back then. Like, there's a lot of that move and tour a lot. And then what. What When I. When you get on tv, you get. You get to command more money. So I got on Comedy View. Like, I got on comedy after doing comedy for, like, seven or eight, six or seven months. And there was another comedian that when they called, that's. This is the reason why I do what I do, because other people don't look down for me. Like you said, you're not by yourself. Comedy call was the biggest call ever. I'm on the road with my boy Hurricane Andrew. He booked his date. He on the phone. He like, hold on. I got the next big thing right here with me. If you don't book this dude, I ain't coming. If you don't book this, the next. Like, he talking like that to the Bookers. Hey, who is that? You need to book? He gave me his phone and they took me sight unseen. You used to have to send a tape in and all that kind of shit took me sight unseen. We flew, we get our Miami tickets. You got to get yourself there. And he said, man, my brother live in Miami. You can stay with us. It was me, him, Smokey D's stayed at his brother crib. Miami. That's my first time having this super strong loud weed. I was like, this is the best place on earth. Miami.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, word.
Ronnie Jordan
So yeah, we go to Miami. Comic view tape in 02. This the one Arnaz J hosted.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
The Eye Poppy. My first time review and was bombing left and right during the taping. It was a. It was. They were booing in that. You'll never see it on tv, right? They was booing. They boo the so bad. He lifted off the ground. I said, oh, this feet was off the ground. They had just booed him back to the dressing room. But yeah, I got out, I did good.
Deontay Kyle
Came out there, hit him with the name of Titty.
Ronnie Jordan
I ain't had that yet. Oh, I ain't had that yet. I came out my first joke and have stolen it since then. I came out with the mic stand. I was like, I got a guest tonight. Boom. Whitney Houston. And them lost. It fell out. Cause it was right after the BET Awards.
Deontay Kyle
Given the time, that's a great job.
Ronnie Jordan
I hate, you know how niggas be like. It was my first joke. Nigga. I did that shit on TV in 02. Cause I had just seen. She came to Uptown and N was like, hey, no Whitney Houston joke was a night she'll buy this bitch and turn it to a check cashing place. Like it was. Niggas was quiet. Whitney came. Whitney and Bobby came and had a great time. And then we seen her on the BET Awards doing that. You better lay low. And I was like, what the hell happened to Whitney? And I was like, here she go right here.
Deontay Kyle
Boom.
Ronnie Jordan
But I was doing it at Uptown before that. Like after I seen her, I was doing the shit and then I did it on there. That was. You know, most Atlanta comics got a good ass. First joke icebreaker. If it hit, it helps. If it don't, you got something else. But I had on a Braves jersey, Dale Murphy jersey, Braves hat, jean shorts, jorts. Had on some joints.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, bad when that was.
Ronnie Jordan
I had on some. Some Dr. J converse. The. The mid. The. With the. With the. With the greater dance sign with the star. Yeah, that was Like a real dope boy apparel I thought I was killing. Had a wristbands. I had a big ass autumn rubber band. Autumn lives Nike wristband on this wrist. I had a watch over here. Yeah, I was.
Deontay Kyle
You talking about this with look like where they used to be outside, like street.
Ronnie Jordan
Like they had a game. Yeah, like street little game. Yeah, yeah. But a lot of niggas bomb, man. And I did good there. And then once you get on tv, it kind of helps your price go up. Okay, all right, word. And I was doing that. And then Bad boys came after that. Not bad boys, but it wasn't Bad boys. It was the contest. It was like Miller Lights, the next king of comedy. They do it in Chicago all the time. So they was doing it in Atlanta and I came in second at the semifinals. They had the judges, Ricky Smiley, Bruce Bruce and all these people. But Ricky pulled me to the side and was like, like, you know you would have won, right? This Walter Latham. This the kids of comedy. You got on a jersey. I had on the Pistol Pete jersey. I thought I was the freshest there. I had a word. Pistol Pete 44 had pistol on the back. Cuz I had a sponsorship with a distant replay. They let me get whatever I wanted to. I just had to bring the back. So all the comedians thought I was balling. I was like, yeah, I'm taking this back. Yeah, yeah. But they. Ricky told me. He was like, if you had a suit on, you would have won. So that's when me and Ricky got cool. Ricky started taking me on the road. Give me 1,000 a show. So I'm making a little more money now. Then I went on the road. Then Walter Latham, we do that Kings of Comedy search. It turned into a reality show. He was like, we trying to find the next king of comedy. It was called the search. So he took 12 comedians from around the country and we had a camera crew with us the whole time. And each city we was opening for the queens of comedy. And we would do like everybody do five minutes and the crowd will vote. Whoever got the least amount of applause get voted off that city. He ain't gonna get on the bus. It was a big deal. So the winner got 20, 25 grand. The finale was in Madison Square Garden. Get 25, 000. You the next he could comedy. And I won that. But it never came out.
Deontay Kyle
Comedy low key, for real.
Ronnie Jordan
And nobody knows it, but the money was real. So you know I got a 25, 000 booth boost. After we've been on tour every Day making whatever we making per show. And we got per diem. I was stacking that, so I had a nice little chunk to start my life off with. But it led up to that. So it was just after that was like, what's the next move? After the search didn't come out. Cause it was the same year last comic standing came out. And it was kind of Paramount was the same company, so they shoved our shit. But Walter was like, don't worry about it. So at this time, now I'm cool with Walter Latham. I brought my manager around him. Kelsey Kelsey has my homeboy. He had a computer store at the time. He's a programmer now. He works. He writes books and shit for Google. Look him up. Kelsey Hightower, funniest. He's a programmer, but he's like a famous black programmer. But we went to high school together. This nigga, I bring him to Walter's office with me. He networks Walter's whole office. And now Walter got all these tapes of all the performances. He got every single Kings of Comedy show ever done. Because he did it five years before this movie came out. So it was a couple of iterations where it's Damon Williams on there, JB Smooth is on there. Guy Tories opening. These are the openers. And he got a room full of these tapes. So he hired Kelsey to log the shit for YouTube. YouTube just came out. So Kelsey transferring all these tapes. So I'm in that watching them. Like, I'm in the office in North Carolina studying this. I'm seeing, nigga, I'm seeing said sets that ain't never came out. Bernie says that ain't never came out. So I just kind of, you know, I studied up the greats. And then Walter was telling me, you know, I got something else I'm cooking up. It's gonna be like Def Jam, where y'all can really say what y'all want to say unedited. I'm trying to figure out somebody partner with. It might be Diddy. That's all he said.
Deontay Kyle
And you ain't had to wear no suit.
Ronnie Jordan
But that was like the coolest ever, though.
Deontay Kyle
They had to go get me some.
Ronnie Jordan
Sean John and tailor that for me. They was like, they don't average size, but down here, Dr. J, they went to a store and bought me an outfit and then cut it, like, tailored it for me and stuff.
Deontay Kyle
But that's hard.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, but I just always been in a position to. The next blessing was coming. It was like always coming. You know what I'm saying? Then after The Kings of Comedy shit after the Bad Boys shit that came on tv. And my college agent, he wasn't my college agent at the time, he was another. He was Tony Tone's agent. And he saw My Bad Boys, he said, can you do that, Cleen? And then I said, yeah. He's like, I do this college thing where they all come to a conference and they book you for dates at one time. And I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah. He said, give me a tape of that. And he submitted me and I made it the first time. And then I went up there. It was like Boston was. We was in Marlboro, Massachusetts. This is Soulja Boy's the biggest shit out. Crank. That was the biggest shit out.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. Ringtone.
Ronnie Jordan
It's my first time doing a showcase. And they got these high ass stages. I'm like the. It's like one or two black dudes there. It's all white comics. It's like a big secret kind of like all the comics, the agents know it. So the only other black dude, this nigga brings a girl up there to do Soulja Boy, you this bitch you was right off the stage, boom. And it was Naim Lynn from the Plastic Cupboard. Shout out to Naim.
Deontay Kyle
That's funny.
Ronnie Jordan
Shout out to Niam. He rich and famous now. But that shit, he. But it set me up for.
Deontay Kyle
He's in the right camp, you feel me?
Ronnie Jordan
But it set me up for. He need a black guy. It's not gonna be.
Deontay Kyle
And it can't be him.
Ronnie Jordan
I don't know how many days he got out of there, but I did after that. But I just know it was like, damn. That's all you heard, was like. You heard about the girl who fell off the stage. She had her bio and shit on fan space, MySpace and all that.
Deontay Kyle
Damn, that's crazy.
Ronnie Jordan
But yeah, that kind of set me up to get those 40 days. I did good on the set, but it was like extra good that it wasn't good. But, you know, it kind of helped out everything. Yeah, the NAC account, I did that for a few years. The college shows was like from 06 to probably 20.
Deontay Kyle
But you're still working comedian.
Ronnie Jordan
Like you're making money every year. I'm doing time I gotta, you know, I got businesses, I'm, you know, I got audited before. It's like, you know, I don't been through all the shit that you can go through. Up, up here, down here, up. Lost it all, got it all. Three, four, you know what I'm saying? And you just Got to keep evolving and you got to keep getting new skills. If you ain't got no skills, don't nobody need you for like.
Deontay Kyle
Right, Right.
Ronnie Jordan
Can't be limited at what you're doing. And you also gotta know that I might not be the hottest in the room right now. I might not be the hottest in the world right now. Who else? Who else got some. Who else needs some help? You know what I'm saying? Like, you kinda. I kind of switch around to service around the Instagram time. It's like, how can I help? I don't been out here long enough. Let me see. See if I can help out. And then, you know, the just come back. You just do it without thinking, and it comes back when some people. I hate when help you, and they tell you to help you. You know what I'm saying?
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah, that's. That's the worst shit. That ain't even really help.
Ronnie Jordan
It's not help. You had an agenda anyway. You needed me to vouch for your niceness or some shit. I don't know.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, I think about this too. Then think about. I mean, being a working comic is. Is being on the road, but you also got kids and you married. How do you balance your, like, work life schedule?
Ronnie Jordan
I didn't know how to do that until Covid it. I did not know because I'd have been through everything, bro. My wife was going through postpartum. I had no idea. I was on the. I was like, I had a kid and then I had another kid, and I'm like, oh, book everything, you know what I'm saying? So.
Deontay Kyle
Cause you worried about the money. Like, naturally.
Ronnie Jordan
Every man is programmed to money. We are naturally. Even before Instagram, we have naturally been programmed to a good man. Brings him home to bacon. That's it.
Deontay Kyle
That's it. Because I was like, my Granddaddy, that got 13 kids, ain't nobody never called him bro.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, we got no money in his truck. You know, I had to be a time where I had to listen to my lady. She had to tell me what she had going on, and I'm like, oh, I've been an. I'm. Oh, I'm not nice when I'm here, I'm not nice, you know? Cause I'm like, I expect certain things that I make all the money. You know what I'm saying?
Deontay Kyle
Like, what is that?
Ronnie Jordan
What's going on? You know what I'm saying? I'm like, she ain't even checked on her. You know what I'm saying? So it just. It's. It'll humble you, bro.
Deontay Kyle
Because, yeah, you'll get into a point. I've experienced that too, where like, the you, the nucleus, like you. The you, the sun, everything revolve around you. But you also making the people in your life feel insignificant. So, like, when they. Yeah, you feel like such a piece.
Ronnie Jordan
Of man, they don't tell you what you did. Oh, my God. You feel like such a piece of. My wife would tell me how I was acting at a certain, certain point. I'd be like, for real? Oh, I would. I didn't know, baby. You know what I'm saying? I'm like, oh, it just. Kids will help you see everything. You know what I'm saying? It's like, oh, it ain't never. It wasn't about me, man. It was like, you know, it was about the unit.
Deontay Kyle
Like, yeah, we surviving off your check, but it's like, we people, too. We got our own shit. The kids growing up. I remember one time I come home and I'm coming home off the road. So I'm like, I'm coming home like, every two, three weeks. Some like that. Maybe two, Staying two, two, three days, something like that. And it'd be cool. Cause, like, you get home, everybody excited to see you. And I remember the first time I came home and ain't killing, like, what's up, Dad?
Ronnie Jordan
I was like, oh, that's the worst.
Deontay Kyle
I said, man, I gotta get out there.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh, that's the worst.
Deontay Kyle
Got to get out the road. That when I. That one we moved back here. When I started noticing, it was just like, I'm being called for, like, what I could pay for. And not like, it don't. Nigga don't even care how I'm doing. Cause it's like, I don't care how y'all doing.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
You know what I'm saying? It's like, yeah. When that separation happened, it's like, I gotta get back home. For real.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah. Cause it's like, you know, you just. Now you just a chick. You don't wanna become a chick.
Deontay Kyle
You don't wanna become a check. Well, really, too, like. But you also don't wanna be a woe as me all sacrificing all the time. It's like, it's a sacrifice for them, too. Like, you my daddy, and you ain't here.
Ronnie Jordan
Even when you get home. You gotta be interested in what's going on. Cause sometimes when I used to come home, I. I get. I get to the phone, that computer, and I'm Trying to book the next month I'm doing. Cause I'm like, you there, but you.
Deontay Kyle
Already on the road again.
Ronnie Jordan
I'm already checked out.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
So it was just like, Covid made me sit down and be like, okay, all right. What's important. You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Cause you really be. I mean, you really show big love to the kids. Like, the fatherhood thing is a big aspect for you, especially people that pay attention to the social media. I wanted to ask you a quick question, because as far as, like, Atlanta comics go, you up there, like, you on that Mount Rushmore, but a person that I think about a lot of times too. I know Bruce. Bruce not from Atlanta, but. Oh, no, Bruce Bruce is from Atlanta, yeah. He from the Blood, but. What's his name? Tyler Craig.
Ronnie Jordan
Tyler Craig. He from the west side.
Deontay Kyle
Rest in peace. Yeah, from the west side, man. I discovered him through Comic View too. But it's like, you've been in shows and things like that with all these folks. Folks. And how was that coming up? Like, was it. Was that your competition? Like your direct competition?
Ronnie Jordan
I didn't have no competition because I didn't have a competition with them because those were already the OGs. They was already on the wall.
Deontay Kyle
So they were cemented.
Ronnie Jordan
They was already. But it was cool seeing Tyler Craig pop up at the same spots. And like, I went out of town with Tyler, Rest in peace, when I first. My first, like, destination show. And I went ahead and ride a buster, man. We got on the cruise and I kicked it with Tyler. But also I saw Tyler, everybody steal Tyler's shit. And he was not phased by it. It was so many niggas stealing his because he has so much clever. Just. Just shit that'll work with any crowd. But it was him too. But I asked him, I said, what you do when they be stealing your stuff? He said, make up some more shit.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, word.
Ronnie Jordan
If this motherfucker is this cool, I gotta be this cool.
Deontay Kyle
Cause you done transition. Now you the OG, man.
Ronnie Jordan
I don't see everybody jokes 10 times, you know what I'm saying? It's like, I don't see argue about the dumbest shit. I'm the first say, hey, how you doing? Like, no, you're not.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
No, you're not, man.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah. And then also too, one thing I noticed about comics is, like, sometimes they'll have like, crazy ass names.
Ronnie Jordan
Like, yeah, yeah.
Deontay Kyle
It's just shit that don't. I think that that's a part of too, like, what I'm starting To discover now, like, now that I'm kind of getting more into media, you can start to see like, oh, that ain't gonna work.
Ronnie Jordan
It's not gonna work.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, it's just not gonna work. And then people think you hating, but it's like, nah, bro. It's like there's a consensus out Grits and Eggs podcast. That sound good.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
More than culture podcasts. I understand what I'm getting myself into. Ronnie Jordan, that's your name. You know what I'm saying?
Ronnie Jordan
That's my dad's name. My dad's name is Ronnie Jordan. So that's cool to see. Like, when I did Apollo and I sent him his name on them lights, he was like, that's tough. That's hard. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's super hard. That's why I started wearing them big aviator glasses. Those are kind of the brown tint my kids broke my original ones. But these lights kind of fuck with me anyway. Everybody know I got a laser eye if you want to see it. Here you go. But the lights be kind of fucking me sometimes. But I started wearing those big ass 70s frames with the. I gave my prescription because that's what my dad wore. He was like the coolest. He still is. He's like one of the coolest people that I know. Like, I ain't look up to Michael Jordan. I looked at my dad. I seen my dad chop off a whole kitchen worth of with a knife. I said, oh, yeah?
Deontay Kyle
Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
Grabbed the knife in the cutting board. Them was like, oh, this dude crazy. I was like, yeah, he crazy. He'll y'all like, I ain't say that. But in my mind I was like, I remember.
Deontay Kyle
I remember with like, I be. I'll be going. Cause like, my pops was big on. Like, this ain't the hangout house. Like, we gotta. We got a basketball goal.
Ronnie Jordan
Oh yeah, you can hoop.
Deontay Kyle
But like, don't have no in my house.
Ronnie Jordan
You gotta go.
Deontay Kyle
So. But you'll go to your partner house. And it's like, they, oh, my mom don't come back till now. Like, you just got me on the game. We in there on the game. Like, you gotta leave at 8. Nigga be like, shit, your daddy don't be home till like 2 in the morning. Let's just go play the game. I was like, dude, no, brother, no.
Ronnie Jordan
No, sir.
Deontay Kyle
You understand that? This nigga, why the couch cushion sitting like that? Hoover's over my house. Like, God, I don't got time for this shit. But then also It'd be to the point where niggas like, man, I wish I had a dad, bro.
Ronnie Jordan
That's what. So I'm getting that now. I'm getting that now. A lot of my, like, shout out to Remo and Tyler.
Deontay Kyle
No.
Ronnie Jordan
And they be. When I say something about my dad, they be like a father. Huh? I be like, I. To the point where I'm like, man, you need to borrow my dad. I'm starting a service. If y'all need to borrow my dad, I'm. We start. We starting to act where y'all can loan out. Y'all daddies, they still alive now.
Deontay Kyle
Need father.
Ronnie Jordan
Need a hug, though.
Deontay Kyle
Sometimes a need st talking to. And then niggas need a grown to.
Ronnie Jordan
Say, you did a good job.
Deontay Kyle
That's a fact.
Ronnie Jordan
That's. My dad would say that shit to me all the time, bro. I be about to cry, man.
Deontay Kyle
Like, you know that truck driving, just having the stability and everything. Yeah, I remember my dad called me, I was on the road. He was like, man, you really be. You be doing this thing? State to state, man. I'm proud of you.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
I was like, I'll call you back in a minute, man.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah.
Deontay Kyle
Cause that shit, it's like, damn, bro. I've been trying my whole life to hear. Don't worry, I was hitting it.
Ronnie Jordan
I was.
Deontay Kyle
I was hitting the out of baseball trying to hear that.
Ronnie Jordan
My daddy see me do it.
Deontay Kyle
My dad, I hitting the out of baseball. I'm trying to put that on the fence.
Ronnie Jordan
Hall of Fame dad with no car before, he like, yo, you ain't had no. So how you get up here? I like, man, I called my dog first. He came to ask to pick me up. We went and did this. We shot here. We did that. Had to. I had one week. I. I had to come. Hey, my car was up, so I had to. We going everywhere. I go buy. I buy a car and then that up, too. I had.
Deontay Kyle
Yeah.
Ronnie Jordan
It wasn't even lit well. Well, not really. It's not limit. Now. I got. Got a whole new engine in it, but. Yeah, you know.
Deontay Kyle
Oh, you buying old school. Like to renovate them type shit. Yeah, I got 96F150 right now.
Ronnie Jordan
Yeah, man, but shout out to Baby Bird Automotive. My boy Carlos down there put a new motor in my truck and. But I. My dad see me maneuver. I live an hour and a half away from the action, and I get up here to do what I gotta do and make shit pop. Like, it look. Sometimes it be looking like I ain't Got nothing cracking, but I've been. I got irons on all the fires, you know what I'm saying? So it's like, you know, I. How people are scrambling now. Like, a lot of these government jobs, DEI cutting niggas and motherfuckers ain't never had to be entrepreneur. We comfortable like this. We like, nigga who, what? I don't care. I'm gonna figure it out. We always figure it out. You know what I'm saying? Like, black people in the Great Depression in the south, we ain't about no Great Depression, nigga. We got. My granddaddy got a watermelon farm. We got money. What's up?
Deontay Kyle
Yeah, nigga got a bankroll.
Ronnie Jordan
It look like we ain't using the banks. We don't trust the banks. You know what I'm saying?
Deontay Kyle
This is straight cash. Cold, hard cash.
Ronnie Jordan
I saw a clip that said black people kept Cadillac open.
Deontay Kyle
Open. That's a fact.
Ronnie Jordan
