Hey, welcome to episode 156. Do you ever catch yourself thinking that you want more clients? You. You want to grow your business, but then your brain instantly tells you how you won't be able to handle it, or how with all the current circumstances in your life, it will be just too much. So it starts to talk you out of it. It tells you to pull back, to grow slower, to focus on growing later when it's easier, when it's more convenient. I talk to business owners all the time who want to grow their business, but deep down, they are afraid. They want to be fully booked, but they're afraid of what their life is going to look like when that happens. Or they want more followers on social media, but they're afraid of the visibility. They want to be that local go to person, but they're afraid of the demand. They're afraid of the responsibility that comes with that, of the work, of the time, of the energy. People look at the current version of themselves, like, through the lens of who they are today and what they're capable of today, and they think they can't handle being fully booked or becoming that local go to person in the future. But the person who gets there is not the exact same version of them. That person built the capacity, the beliefs, the skill sets, the resilience to be able to hold it, to handle it. They are fully capable. Years ago, when I signed up for my very first marathon, I could not run 26 miles. Like, not even close. I had only run a half marathon up until that point. So literally half the distance. That version of me who signed up could not run 26 miles. I did not have the capability. I did not have the mentality, the endurance. It was impossible for that version of me. But over months of training and going a little bit further each time, I expanded what was possible. I expanded how far I could go. I expanded what I could hold. And over time, I became the person who could run 26 miles. But I built up to that. I was a different version of myself by the time I got there, so of course it was possible for the new version of me. Our brain is trained to look for the fear and the obstacles and the impossibility in everything we're doing every single day. When we're building Our business. It looks at all the hard work to get there, at putting yourself out there and the fear of visibility. It looks at all the ways you might try and fail. It looks at how you might not be able to handle the demand yet your brain is wired to protect you, to give you all the reasons it won't work. Like it is literally wired to scan for danger, for friction, for effort, for embarrassment, for risk, for failure, for overload. It's like here's a list of all the things that could go wrong. Here's how hard it's going to be, here's all the things that you're going to have to improve, here's all the energy you're going to have to use, here's what you can currently handle. But how much time are you spending thinking about the version of you who did figure it out? Like what are you like on the other side? When you are fully booked, when you are that local go to person, how much can you handle then as that person, how much faster can you work? How differently are you thinking? How different of actions are you taking? Like how can you handle more? Because you're right, the version of you today with your current business, your current results, your current way of thinking, your does have these obstacles but that future version of you doesn't. You've overcome them. So you have to show your brain that every day that possibility is there. That there is another version of you in the future who has gotten past this friction that has outgrown this current capacity, this current problem. That future version of you thinks differently, they feel differently, they show up differently, they problem solve differently, they have a bigger capacity to handle more, they can handle more visibility, they can handle more clients, they can handle feedback followers. That version of you who is the local go to, who does have the demand, who is fully booked, that person can handle it. And we know that because you got there and you didn't get there by accident. You got there by solving problem after problem, by overcoming obstacle after obstacle, by changing thought after thought, by believing new thing after new thing, by learning skill after skill, by expanding your capacity a little day by day, by being able to hold a little bit more day after day, by feeling safer in bigger visibility day by day, by being able to get things done faster, task by task back, by being able to say things clearer, post by post, email by email. All these things happened in the day by day micro moments probably by you not even realizing it. But you became a different person over time. The local go to version of yourself is a different version of you. You are not that person yet. So often we think we can't get certain results or we won't ever get there because we think a certain way, or we feel a certain way, or our life is a certain way, or we have this time obstacle, or we have kids or our husband has a job or travels a lot, or this certain thing or this certain season of life is blocking us. But every day our brain is solving for that. Every day we're putting our brain to work, to think new thoughts, to believe something new, to develop new skills, to get better at marketing, to get better at selling, to be more visible, to get faster and better. It's when we have a fixed mindset, when we think things won't ever change or that things will magically change in the future. That's how we end up staying stuck right now. But we change little by little every single day. In the micro moments. I hear people tell me all the time that they want to put off growing their business until their life gets easier, until their full time job calms down, or until their kids are back in school, or until they find out about their husband's job. Or maybe their husband travels a lot and they're home with the kids a lot, or they're trying to have a baby or they just had a baby. There's something in their life right now that they are telling themselves that they have to wait on, that they don't have the capability or the capacity to handle showing up, to handle marketing, to handle taking on more, to do more until a circumstance changes in their life. But that isn't true. Your growth happens in these moments. Your growth happens when you just start thinking differently. When you show yourself in the micro moments that you can show up, that you can do the post anyway, that you can handle working with a client and doing the thing and your husband is out of town like, yes, I am tired and I can do this one little thing. I'm capable. This is how I show myself that I can have it all. I can have my life and be the local go to person with the fully booked business that I want. It is possible. It's when we tell ourselves that we can't have it because of the circumstances in our life or who we are today, because who we are right this minute, the exact things going on, the current beliefs we have the current skill sets, we have the current audience size, we have the current engagement, we have the current results, the circumstances. We think all of that is set in stone and that's just how it Is and hopefully all of it will magically change one day versus we change, we change within it. We say, okay, these are the circumstances. Nothing has to change. I have to change. I have to change the way I think every day. I have to have better thoughts. I have to empower myself to give myself energy. I have to desire to show up. I have to fuel myself to show up. I have to post and market and meet people in my city. I have to develop bigger beliefs about myself and what's possible, beliefs about what I'm offering and selling, beliefs about my clients and their desire for what I'm selling and my desire to help them. I have to develop skill sets. I have to go out and try these things and fail and evaluate and troubleshoot and tweak and iterate and go again. I have to get feedback and coaching and the support so I can keep going. I have to learn things. I have to keep evolving in how I talk about what I do and how I help people. I have to keep growing my audience. I have to keep expanding my capacity day by day, moment by moment. I have to learn how to show up when I say I am. I have to learn how to hold myself accountable. It's like going to the gym. You don't just go and lift a five pound weight forever. You build up, you expand your ability, your capacity. You show yourself that you can now handle the tens. Maybe it's fewer reps, but then you start building up to the same amount you could do with the fives. Then you move to the 15s and then eventually the 20s and then the 30s. You build up to it. It's the same thing with what you can handle on your calendar and with working with clients and with the demand in your business and with your schedule. Your capacity expands, you expand it. You are not fixed the circumstances in your life. None of it means that you can't be the local, go to or have a fully booked business. All of that can continue to change or stay the same. But you have to be the one who is changing, who is evolving and growing. That's how you get there. That's how you become the local, go to with the business you want. It's not overnight. I'm not selling you overnight success, but I am selling you the process of becoming the person who can hold and have the business. You want something. You build steadily, day after day. So you become the person who is known in your city, who builds the demand and who can handle it and deliver on it and enjoy your life. So come do this work with us inside the localpreneur Academy. This is what we do. All right. That is what I have for you this week, my friend. I hope I see you inside. Hey.

Episode 156: Why You’re Afraid to Be the Fully Booked Local Go-To
Host: Leslie Presnall

In this insightful episode, Leslie Presnall delves into the fears and mindset blocks that keep local business owners from stepping fully into the role of the sought-after, fully booked "local go-to." Leslie combines real-life analogies, mindset coaching, and motivational advice to challenge listeners’ beliefs about growth, capacity, and visibility, emphasizing the small, daily changes that lead to becoming the person who can handle greater success.

On Sustainable Success:
“I'm not selling you overnight success, but I am selling you the process of becoming the person who can hold and have the business you want—something you build steadily, day after day.” (10:23)
Leslie Presnall’s message is a blend of empathy and challenge: your present version may not yet be the “local go-to,” but through small, daily shifts in mindset and action, you can become the person capable of handling and thriving with the demands you desire. The journey isn’t about waiting for circumstances to change, but about growing your own capacity, beliefs, and resilience—step by step.
