Three new Hardlaw shirts out right now. Thank you. Dead Body just played the AEW pay per view in New Jersey. Just it happening at all. Absolute miracle. They built an 8 by 12 stage which think about 8ft by 12ft. Only me, Taylor and the drum kit could fit on this little thing. Miles had his own little stage that was like 4 by 12 that he had to get carte. So you the people in the arena while the Costco guys are exiting, could see Dead Body rolling out on this tiny little stage. It's your boy Santa.
Bo
It's hard lore time.
Colin
Hello, welcome. It's hard lore time. How are you, Bo?
Bo
I'm doing great today. We got. We got a. No pressure, just enjoyable. Cozy.
Colin
We love these. I don't think we've caught up like this in quite a while. So. This is a long time coming. What you've been up to?
Bo
What have I been up to? I got a sauna. I'm a sauna guy now. Don't worry about it.
Colin
You cannot believe this song. How do you. So when you said I got a sauna.
Bo
Yeah, yeah.
Colin
I. I thought about it for about five minutes and it sent my brain into an incurable scramble. Got a sauna is like fever dream type sentence.
Bo
Yeah. It like doesn't make sense. It's full disclosure. It isn't like a traditional like heated stone dry sauna which you can get, but they're like thousands of dollars.
Colin
Like you don't have a home with a sauna room in it.
Bo
Correct. I have a porch with a vinyl insulated sweat tent and a steaming machine that pumps steam into it. But it gets about 120 degrees, 100% humidity.
Colin
So you sweat in this tent every day.
Bo
And then I wash what I. What's in there?
Colin
And I wash.
Bo
I wash it. But it's nice, dude to get off, get home from the gym, jump in there for 20. I got a little. This is hilarious to talk about. But it's like an archaic steaming thing. So there's no WI fi, there's nothing. No way to turn it on. So I got this little robot button that goes. That I could turn.
Colin
Oh, really? That's kind of like what I have for this thing.
Bo
And it. Yeah, yeah, there you go.
Colin
And that doesn't do that on its own. I said that's a. That's. I got a guy back there and I push this and it sprays a little water at him and then he knows he's on.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
So it's actually Alec spec there.
Bo
So. Yeah, I work out and I jump in there. That's what I've been into Thanksgiving. I cooked for me and my mom.
Colin
You cooked?
Bo
I just me. It was great.
Colin
What did you make?
Bo
I made. So I didn't get a full bird. I got just like a, like the breast roast.
Colin
Oh.
Bo
With it. So it's just like a turkey breast. Whole turkey breast with like skin on it. It's all wrapped up. Packed it with butter and herbs and stuff. I made mashed potatoes. I made a green bean casserole kind of thing. Stuffing and cranberries. From scratch.
Colin
Oh, wow. You prefer, you like from scratch rather than the can.
Bo
I just kind of wanted to do it because you can, you can juice it up. I threw sage.
Colin
You did Thanksgiving? That's, that's crazy, man. Good job. I bought the soda and the ice cream.
Bo
Come on, Come on. What'd you get?
Colin
Where's Van Leeuwen? Oh, I got a Van Leeuwen pine. I got a Jenny's pie. I got two McConnell's pines. I got a bunch of. Oh, yeah. Now they all came home with me. My mom's, my stepdad made some dry ass turkey. Kyla made some unbelievable mashed potatoes and she made all her pies. Kyla's my, my sister in law, Kyla, Taylor's wife is the perhaps the greatest pie maker in human history.
Bo
I have to try. I've never tried anything she's ever made it.
Colin
It's, I hate when she bakes because.
Bo
It'S, it's the week.
Colin
Because I'm, I'm, I'm a pound fatter.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Four hours later.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
You know.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
And that, like I just worked off them nuggets from last year, you know, literally. I just got those off the Thanksgiving pie just added about another month of work for me. But it is what it is. Anyway, we're here today just to kind of chat for a bit, catch up. We're going to answer some questions in a bit. We've both been very busy.
Bo
Yeah. And we have, we have some heat coming.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
If you're wondering if you heard the end of last week's episode and you're wondering where that is, it's coming. But we just had to, you know, kind of figure something out and plan something and simmer down and we're at.
Colin
The end of the year. We've had a, we've had a long year. We've had a successful year in terms of just kind of the stuff that we've done week to week on the show. We thank you all for sticking with Us, we've had some, some. Some dream guests. We've had some guests and new bands that we hope to introduce you to. There's a little bit of everything. You know, that's what we're all about here. So we, you know, I would love to hear who you all want to see. So please drop a name below who you want. We got some really cool people coming up. We got some big plans for next year. I think we're going to take a couple trips.
Bo
Also got a. I was going to. Yeah, also I was going to say, if possible, go way back, see if there's someone you want to run us back with. I think we're two years on, plus.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
You know, we're two and a half years on. We can run some people back even from the mini episodes, stuff like that.
Colin
Yeah, I mean, drains. Been through a lot. Skull's been through a lot. Right. It's high time for. For some reruns here. But yeah, thank you guys for this year. It's been. It's been lovely. We've been racking our brains week to week, by some miracle figuring out what to do. So now we're just taking it easy, enjoying looking back at the year finally and being like, that was pretty good. We'll have like kind of Best of yeah, yeah, yeah compilation episode probably first week of January. But for now we're just having a nice time. It's been a. This last weekend was the first week, like, day that I've had to just sit.
Bo
Oh, dude. Since you got to talk about your major development, Colin has finally joined.
Colin
Oh, the PC world, man. It's tough to describe the joy that this. I built a PC, saved up for it for a bit, found all my parts, you know, Worked with a lovely guy at Micro Center.
Bo
Oh, shout out Microcent together. My God, it's heaven.
Colin
I can't wait to go back and just explore.
Bo
Yeah, it's the best.
Colin
And now my Mac that I use for hard lore and use for this feel like. Feels like work to use. And my entire life I felt the opposite. Like, booting up a PC felt so foreign, archaic.
Bo
Just felt like a library computer or something. Yeah, yeah, I know what you mean.
Colin
Whereas now I see that it. A PC is truly just like endless open possibilities.
Bo
Yeah. What do you want to do? There is a way to do it.
Colin
I'm so excited every day to just get home and at night and be like, okay, I can finally turn this thing on.
Bo
What have you. What have you been playing? We played Dead by Daylight.
Colin
Played Dead by daylight I've been playing Diablo 4, playing a lot of Hades 2, early access.
Bo
Love that.
Colin
Loving it. It's very difficult.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Love the music again. Whoever's doing that, the guy rips.
Bo
It's outstanding. Yeah.
Colin
And. And this fortnight season is perhaps the greatest of all time. It's like Japan theme. There's samurais.
Bo
Oh, really? Oh, that's pretty.
Colin
Yeah, it's unbelievable.
Bo
That's pretty cool.
Colin
So been very busy with that this past week. Dead Body just played the AEW pay per view in New Jersey recently. That was really cool.
Bo
Talk to me about that.
Colin
All right. Just it happening at all. Absolute miracle.
Bo
Totally.
Colin
We pitched this. I mean, I know Brody's been pitching this internally for like two years. Just some kind of live thing as he's a musician and he works with musicians and I've been doing music for them for almost three years.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
It. The. The answer was pretty much no right off the bat just in terms of like the logistics it would take and like with the venue and whatnot. And Brody persisted and dan Seeley from King9 now works for AEW doing a lot of the prop stuff. And he kind of went above and beyond here and like found absolutely everything needed to make it happen. Like the audio package, the. The guys, sound guys and everything. And like I would say week of we booked that show.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
At the Brooklyn Meadows. Kind of hoping it would happening, but expect expecting it not to, so.
Bo
And both bands were playing Brooklyn, both.
Colin
Bands were playing the show. And it's like just in case.
Bo
Just in case.
Colin
Yeah, Just in case this can happen.
Bo
And if not, you're at a paper, you're at a dope pay per view, you're in New York, you're eating 100%. Yeah.
Colin
Nobody. It was going to be a great time regardless.
Bo
Totally.
Colin
Week of it was like, it's on. We're good. So now the stress starts.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And I'm like, there's a little bit of me that's like, come on. Like I. If it doesn't happen, it's fine because I don't have to be stressed out about. Does happen. We're stressing out about it. Taylor's the king of stress, so he's freaking out the situ. The like making it happen. Then we first we were told the gear would be like on a separate stage where it could just kind of live for the show and we could walk up and play. Cause we'll have already sound checked. Already. Already line checked.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Then. But AEW was using a new size entrance stage. For the first time.
Bo
Bigger.
Colin
Bigger.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
So we could. They couldn't facilitate that any longer. So what they did was then, then one of the guys is like, so we're just gonna have you guys set up sound check, line check, tear everything down. And then like 15 minutes before the match, we're have you guys set right back up.
Bo
No. With no line check.
Colin
No line check? Yeah, no. And if you tear down a microphone, the sound check is pointless, right?
Bo
Yeah, it's.
Colin
It's over.
Bo
All you know is that the mixer works like maybe. Maybe every line can change. Yeah.
Colin
So they didn't do that either. They built an 8 by 12 stage, which think about 8ft by 12ft with not a lot of space for a four piece band.
Bo
Like with a full.
Colin
If you look at the footage, you'll notice Taylor is not at the front. He's slightly to the side.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Because only me, Taylor and the drum kit could fit on this little thing. Miles had his own little stage that was like 4 by 12 that he had to get carded. So you, the people in the arena, while the Costco guys are exiting, could see dead body rolling out on this tiny little stage. And then they ratchet Miles to us and then plugged in the power like a minute before we're going on.
Bo
Oh my God.
Colin
So we're on the stage hoping that sound is coming out. Yeah, just like they, they rehearsed the entrance one time and told us, okay, you only have like maybe two minutes. So we, we like rehearsed a version of the song that was two minutes.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
And they were like, that's way too short, guys. You gotta, you gotta make it longer. And I tried explaining, like, there needs to be a certain point where we know where to stop. And they were like, no, we're gonna fade you out. And I was like, no, that's cool. But we're still human beings.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Who need to like know when to stop playing. And then a guy said he was gonna cue us to stop and then didn't queue us up. And that's why people who were there, we were still playing during the out. What is that? Outrunners.
Bo
Outrunners?
Colin
Yeah, the outrunners entrance in the arena. So people were like, what the fuck is going on tv? I don't think it translated that.
Bo
I watched it. I watched the whole thing. You could not tell at all from a home viewing point of view, it was flaw. I was like shocked at how well it went. And then to know how up in the air it actually was.
Colin
Dude, legitimate miracle. I Don't think it could have gone better legitimately.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
And it was just like Brody and I have and Taylor have been through so much together in our lives, you know.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And now we've been creating things together for so long that, that moment existing forever, even if it was the last three minutes of a broadcast before the pay per view that exists forever like that. You can't take away that that happened. It's just a. It's a beautiful thing to have gotten to do together. So thank you, Brody. Thank you.
Bo
It's awesome. I went to the following Dynamite which was in Chicago at the Wind Trust. And I. I went alone like Stephen fucking Glansburg. And I was just, just chilling. It was Dan's birthday and that little angel came and got me. And I went in the back a little bit. It was my first time going in the back or anything like that. And much, you know, I'm not going to share too much or whatever, but like, much like you said, it's very. Things seem really up in the air. Like there are such pros that like everything is so casual. I walked in and somebody was standing there who I recognized right next to where Dan and I ended up. And I was like, oh shit, there's that guy. And then 20 seconds later he's in the ring. He was just like on his phone just like chilling and it's just crazy.
Colin
I guess it's kind. It's kind of like us before.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
Colin
Same thing.
Bo
For sure.
Colin
You and I are literally talking as if we were right now.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And you're, you're like they're ringing out.
Bo
Yeah, yeah.
Colin
Waiting. Waiting for you to walk on.
Bo
It's awesome. But yeah, I think it went really, really well for you guys. I thought it was really cool. And then also little bonus was buddy's four way match closing out. The pre show was eyes adjust and that was fucking sick.
Colin
That. That's the thing. If I could time travel to, to 2013 me and just be like, it's all good, dude.
Bo
It is unreal by the way, how young you sound on that recording.
Colin
Yeah, it's.
Bo
I know it's that long ago, but it's still just like crazy how much your voice is just.
Colin
I sound 18 on sleep therapy, I sound 19 on mothers a law and then I sound 83 on disharmony and a cool 43 on gaining purpose. Maybe we'll finally find my actual age on these things. We'll see someday.
Bo
How was the show then?
Colin
Show is great. A lot of wrestling fans it's so. Which is a really interesting combination.
Bo
Yeah, yeah.
Colin
Like there's a lot that get it, you know, there's wrestlers pitting hard. That's cool.
Bo
That's awesome.
Colin
But you know, it makes for what, what a sold out show of pure HC would be, right? Violent. Violent. Violent. Violent is kind of like half as violent, but like.
Bo
Yeah, totally. I know exactly what you mean.
Colin
So it's a, it's a single edged sword. It's just a sword.
Bo
It's, it's just a normal sword.
Colin
Yeah. Nice sword.
Bo
That's sick. I'm glad it all went well, you know. And it was, man, it was really funny seeing there was a moment, I don't know if you heard where Anthony was just behind the desk, the commentator desk on the pay per view.
Colin
No way.
Bo
He was just, just back.
Colin
Holy shit. That's incredible.
Bo
Yeah, just stuff like that where it's like, like it was, it was fun and I don't know, I, I, oh, dude, the Rizzler.
Colin
Seeing him in person, he's the smallest single object I've ever seen.
Bo
So it's like Rizzler Chili.
Colin
Yeah. No, dude, I was saying all day back there, I was like, he reminds me of Chili. The Rizzler reminds me exactly of my 7 pound Chihuahua mix. It's unbelievable. I swear to God that I can back that up. But dude, it was, it's really sweet, you know, the meeting the, the Costco guys. Aj, the dad, sweetest guy, total pro in the back. He was meeting Adam Sandler's kids and shaking all their hands. And he didn't know they're Adam Sandler's kids, but he was shaking their hands individually and being like, nice to meet you. Bring the boom. Nice to meet you. Bring the boom to every single one. He's such a pro. You can tell he's been just working and waiting for this his whole life. And the Rizzler is, I don't know how to describe it other than it's the most charisma I've ever seen in a tiny dust like object.
Bo
How old is he?
Colin
I think he's like six or seven.
Bo
It's too much.
Colin
You forget he's got so much Riz and so much star power. You forget he's a baby.
Bo
He's not a 38 year old Italian man.
Colin
No, no. That's what I thought. But Big justice is literally holding his hand, walking him around the arena. It's beautiful. Little guy.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
I've never seen something so small.
Bo
And him coming out with big show or Paul White is obviously. That was.
Colin
And they were at catering together at the same table already. So I've seen coming into that and seeing that image was like, holy shit. This is the. This is the biggest guy and the smallest guy ever. It's literally together.
Bo
Oh, little buddy from Jingle all the Way. Like, it's literally.
Colin
It was real. That he improv.
Bo
That Santa is real.
Colin
I've been saying. Anyway, so then, you know, then a week later, Knock Loose is on Jimmy Kimmel, dude.
Bo
So what I was going to say is when you were mentioning at your show how that's kind of half and half, that reminded me of. I went and saw Knock Loose at the Aragon a few weeks ago now at this point. And it was kind of that way in a. There were people who were. There were a lot of hardcore kids there. Aragon ballroom is 4,000 cap. That's a huge room.
Colin
So fucking big.
Bo
So you're there. I don't know if there's 4,000 hardcore kids in Illinois, you know.
Colin
Right.
Bo
You're not in the whole state. Oh, in the whole. Maybe even in the Midwest. I genuinely don't know. So you're not going to have 100%. Like the ratio is always going to change. As it should. I think that that's a good thing when you, you, you do see that thing where there's like push pit, sing along, couple hardcore pits. People just booze in who only know the songs and who will now know the poppy song. You know what I mean? It's. It's a very interesting thing. Dude. Did I talk about their. Their show at all? Just about.
Colin
I don't know. But I mean, that lineup.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Is truly like a work of art.
Bo
It's.
Colin
You got Military Gun doing their thing. Lock the Fucking Drain is like the ultimate crowd pumper up here.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And they'll. They'll get anybody.
Bo
And then the Garden.
Colin
The garden does their own weird wild shit.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Art shit.
Bo
Yeah. And then Knock Loose just like killing it. And their level of the production, the set, the lighting design and the shit the Taylor was doing. And they were just describing how they were like a good example. And I saw. I think I saw this on Alicia show with. With Brian where it was like, yeah, we were going to do scrims of trees in like a forest or whatever. And then it was like, why don't we just make trees? And they just made. Fabricated a forest. It's just like. It's the most pro shit. It looked awesome. And the Kimmel show, I watched that live too, and it was like or not live. I think it's a couple hours recorded at that point. But it was like that's exactly how they brought it at their show. Like it was the exact same thing. Nothing.
Colin
They did their thing on tv, which is great for everybody. And I've seen like both. I've seen people be like, this isn't gonna do anything for anybody. That's just not how that works. If that gets one person in hardcore in some way, even if the. It's a long road. It's a net positive. It's a beautiful thing.
Bo
The example of some kids staying up late watching this and is gonna go to school and blah, blah, blah. It's like, okay, yeah, maybe that isn't happening because kids aren't really watching t. Television. I don't watch television. Fine. I get.
Colin
Look at how it did on Twitter.
Bo
And that's exactly right. No, it's on social media. It's all over the place. That is what they're going to see and check out. And that is a net. I see both sides of the coin. I see the net positive, see the net negative. Whatever I do, or I guess it can't be. They're mutually exclusive. But I think of it as a net positive overall, 100%.
Colin
I also think the thing that the factor people aren't thinking of is that Knock Loose is a band that like on their big European tour that they're doing next after this Kimmel thing, Harm's Way and Pest Control are on there.
Bo
Exactly.
Colin
Those are the ways in which it grows. Everything overall.
Bo
Exactly.
Colin
And they. They do. There's bands that don't do those things. There's bands that have these wildly successful moments and then completely change their path and bring a bunch of random fuckers up with them. This is clearly not the case. So there's many factors that must be considered.
Bo
And. But the. It's. We've known this all along. I believe we've championed them for the existence of the show. And I know I have personally, they. I don't. I won't hear any. Like, they're not a hardcore band. I'm like, I'm not going to hear that.
Colin
Yeah. The ethics are all there and they are paramount at the end of the day.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Yeah. And that's. They could. They're in the midst of their massive level up. They could not spend all of this money on these new things, leveling up their live performance and just be complacent and keep that. But they're putting it all back into it and without.
Bo
Without over sharing like, they have a pretty sizable crew that tours with them, and they're all hardcore kids. Everyone in there, I saw there was multiple God's hate shirts on the tour. You know what I mean? It's like, it's. That's. They're keeping it in the family. It's a good thing. And. And one thing that I. I want to raise is, like, okay, maybe the style of music that they're playing that's on national TV is not something that you think is going to catch on or think that should catch on, but those ethics and the way that that band operates and runs himself is something that should catch on, and that is overall a huge and great thing.
Colin
That's what. What's what Hard Lore is all about, baby. All right, we're going to transition now into Question World. Here we are.
Bo
If you haven't joined the Hard Lord Discord.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
What do you do?
Colin
This is where. This is where it happens.
Bo
This is where it happens. We're in there from time to time. This is where we. We. We. What do we do, Colin? We gather. We. We harvest, hunter. We hunt and gather and gather in the Discord.
Colin
So this is, you know, join that. And next time we do one of these, you'll be part of it. All right, what do we got? What tuning is Holy Blade in?
Bo
That's higher than I would think. Alex Got a pretty high register, though.
Colin
We wanted to keep it os.
Bo
Yeah. True, true, true.
Colin
Somebody asked about Dead Body playing House of Black of the Ring. How awesome did it feel? Very awesome.
Bo
Was the stage moving as you were?
Colin
Stage was not moving. They ratcheted it. They kept it real safe. But there was a moment I remember at first ringing out and hearing sound.
Bo
Was like, oh, thank God.
Colin
Yeah, yeah. Like, okay, we're good. We could hear ourselves by some miracle. And I remember just look at, like, making. I was like, I'm going to make a conscious effort to just look at Nate for a minute.
Bo
Buck. Yeah.
Colin
And just take it in.
Bo
Yeah, yeah.
Colin
Watch him from behind. And then, like, looking up, and it's like, all right. Yeah. This place is full. This is crazy. Was, was, was. I didn't get tunnel vision, which. That. That is the most people I've ever done anything.
Bo
I was going to ask. Yeah, right.
Colin
So I was able to really, like, scan the room, take it in, enjoy it. And it was. It was really special.
Bo
There's. That. There is a moment, and I. I posted a little screenshot of. It's when you're doing a crazy neck move, which is. Good Lord.
Colin
I'm hurting, man.
Bo
But Dan. There's a point where you could see Dan and he's literally like. Like, he's literally, like, scratching his head just like, wow. Like, he did that. Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
So I hope. I hope so.
Bo
And also, yeah, I get if anybody. If anybody stuck around for the end of the Pay Per View, there's a really funny moment where after Darby crashes into the. The Death Rider's car, where Dan's like, darby, what are you doing, dude? You can't park here. It's so funny.
Colin
And then Darby pushes down. So.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
So Josiah also works for AW now.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And Josiah was part of that squad that was like, come on, Dar. What are you doing, man? And Darby pushes Dan and Josiah just leaves. He's like, I'm not getting pushed. It's so good.
Bo
So fucking funny.
Colin
Yeah. All right, Top five releases from this year. You will have to wait until the hard awards.
Bo
Yeah, we can't.
Colin
To find that.
Bo
We can't disclose.
Colin
Top three shows you played.
Bo
Wow. Okay. Sound of Fury was awesome. I can't believe that that was still this year.
Colin
I would say that's number one.
Bo
Yeah, that's probably number one for me as well. That feels like several years ago.
Colin
Yes.
Bo
Playing. I'm going to cheat a little bit and say playing with Hate Breed in North Carolina on the Hate br. Like, playing not one Truth with the band for me personally, was a very serious high point for me, big time. And, oh, Outbreak Fest was awesome.
Colin
I can't wait to finally play the new Outbreak next year.
Bo
What are your other two?
Colin
I'd say number three, probably Twitch Fits.
Bo
It has to be, right.
Colin
Yeah, that or fya. Because that was Mike's first show back, and I was like, man, that was.
Bo
The celebration watching that. I was emotional watching that. That was probably my. I. I know I say this to you all the time. It's. And it's a borderline bit. That probably was my favorite time. Seeing Twitching Tongues.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Because it just did mean there was.
Colin
A lot to it.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
There's a lot more to it.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
Number two, I would say, is maybe a God, say at the Belasco, because that was just like at the pre show. Perfect. Yeah, dude, that was. That was the best I think I've ever played drums.
Bo
That was fucking awesome.
Colin
That was really good.
Bo
The Hate Breed song.
Colin
Oh, yeah. Four guitars. Sean. Come on.
Bo
Horrifying.
Colin
Come on. We did it. What's Knife asks? What is it about the best moshers making the best music? Why? You know, we say that all the time, but I guess we don't elaborate why, but style and presence are as important as the sound of your voice.
Bo
You know how in. In a movie, when it's like. Like in Sicario, Alejandro, he. He's the best CIA asset because he worked for the other cartel. You know, he was in there. And it's kind of the same thing. You're writing, you're making a part, because you know what it's like to be in the pit. You know, you're.
Colin
That is very true.
Bo
You're visualizing that.
Colin
You're thinking. Pit minded.
Bo
Exactly.
Colin
In this genre is the most important thing you can do.
Bo
It sure can be. And so that's what I think it is. I'm not. You saw a funny video recently of me moshing to Internal affairs at the Darien Sports.
Colin
Oh, my God, here it is. It's so awesome.
Bo
And Chris Mills is in there, too. James is in there somewhere. That was when Marauder played khaki shorts. Yeah, khaki shorts, baby.
Colin
What is that, baby?
Bo
It's a mental long sleeve they have.
Colin
Oh, that's cool.
Bo
Yeah, it was a cool, cool long sleeve. But, yeah, this is one of the last eras of me wearing shorts, like, publicly. But my whole youth crew band is in the pit, which is what's cool. Is like, Chris and Kyle and Brad, the other guys were all. We were all in the pit. And this is before Harm's Ways, before Fear, in the Proud. This is way long ago, but it's Friends mash. Yeah. Literally. And. And, dude, this lineup.
Colin
And now you're all Harmsworth.
Bo
It was so stacked. This was Internal Affairs. Donnie Brooks blacklisted's first time. And that was when I saw, like, scary, like, Joe Hardcore, like, scary Philadelphia guys moshing. The Killer played and people were getting, like, dragged out. And then I left before Marauder played with Saab. I didn't know.
Colin
He'll never.
Bo
I didn't know at the time. I didn't know.
Colin
It's all right. You know, now.
Bo
I was 15.
Colin
Yeah, that's impressive. Mount Rushmore of the Attitude era.
Bo
Oh, good one. Now, question for you, Colin, because I've heard this. Do you consider Shawn Michaels part of the Attitude Era? Yes. Yeah. Okay. Thank you. Because I've heard that. No, he was, like, the last. And he was gone because he lost his.
Colin
You know, the beginning of DX was. Was a counter to nwo.
Bo
And Attitude era is definitely like, the mantle is on Steve Austin.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
But, like, all of the. If it was just Steve Austin, it wouldn't have been anything like that. Like, it wouldn't have been as substantial. So I. Okay. I'm glad to hear you say that.
Colin
Austin.
Bo
Yep.
Colin
Rock.
Bo
Yep.
Colin
Kurt Angle.
Bo
Interesting. I thought he would have been after Attitude the Goat dude. No, no, no. I'm not saying he's not. I just thought he was later.
Colin
No, no.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
He was. He was at the tail end of it, but, like, he was absolutely untouchable. Mick Foley, probably love it.
Bo
Great answers. I'm gonna say hbk. Austin Rock. I'm gonna go take her. Because that's what. That's what. Kind of like his mystique and his. With Kane and the.
Colin
Yeah, I mean, I loved all that.
Bo
All that is. That's what kept me, like, interested was I needed the, like, weird, dark shit. I needed that.
Colin
I think Austin is the greatest wrestling star of all time.
Bo
You think so?
Colin
Yeah, he's. He. He. You talk to anybody who's like. I used to like wrestling, you know, when Stone Cold was there.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Stone Cold in the Rock.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
The Rock is the greatest crossover wrestling star of all time, whether you like it or not. Whether you think John Cena is the funnier actor or Batista is the best actor, which is the case, which.
Bo
You're right.
Colin
The Rock. The Rock is the greatest crossover wrestling star in history. Kurt Angle is the greatest natural talent in history. And Mick Foley is the greatest wrestling underdog in history.
Bo
I really like those answers. So I would say. I would say the same thing with Austin and Rock. Also Rock. Probably the best promo and best. Just like, period. Like, I hated him.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Corporate rock.
Colin
And then you loved him.
Bo
And then I loved him.
Colin
And then you hated.
Bo
And then it was the Rock because.
Colin
It was by his own design.
Bo
And the Rock and Stock Connection. You kidding me?
Colin
Oh, my God.
Bo
Come on. But then I would say. I would say Sean was. Is my favorite in ring talent. Can make anybody look like a million bucks.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
And then Taker. Just the greatest mystique and greatest character. And then the Ministry of Darkness was that time.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
I was all in. I was all in.
Colin
True. That favorite radio station on a GTA game, whatever one had, the hardcore one. Oh, that was Max. Max Pen and sure terror VCHC in GTA 4.
Bo
Yeah. Which was Disc Jockey by Keith Morris. Which is cool.
Colin
Insane.
Bo
It's. It's just, like, cool that they were like, who? Oh, we could get the guy from Black Flag and Circle Jerks. Yeah, that's cool.
Colin
To do that. To do the New York.
Bo
To do New York punk station. Dude. It had Underdog.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Come on.
Colin
It was Crazy.
Bo
So I would love to know who procured that playlist.
Colin
Me, too. And why wouldn't they do it again? And why are we not.
Bo
Yeah, Rockstar, if you're needing something for six, we're available.
Colin
We're very cheap.
Bo
It was so cheap.
Colin
Biggest accomplishments this year for Hard Lore, plus respective bands.
Bo
Pause. Shout out to the. There's the metal one from Vice City that had, like, Anthrax. Had. Do. Had Danzig.
Colin
Right.
Bo
Had Bark at the Moon. Shout out to them, too. Honor. Honorable mention of that one. Accomplishment.
Colin
Biggest accomplishments this year for Hard Lore and respective bands. Holy Blade ep. Psyched about that. Proud of that. For Hard Lore, I would say the entire New York Chronicles.
Bo
That was last year.
Colin
It was. But it came out this year.
Bo
Okay, good, good, good, good. I'm with you. I would say that. And. And honestly, the episode with Tom, about 12 hits, was. That was a good one.
Colin
That's the one I've gotten the most personal feedback from from people who are like, hey, I don't watch the show.
Bo
Yeah, yeah, same.
Colin
But I watched that one.
Bo
I watched that. And you did a really good job. My mom said she had people messaging her, like, on Facebook and stuff.
Colin
That's awesome.
Bo
I just listened to your son's show. It's like, what the. Yeah, I would say that. I would. I don't know, man. It's just cool to hear how much people dig the show. It's just cool. It's really. That feels really nice.
Colin
This is like, we've been guy from band for 15 years, and now we're a guy from show.
Bo
Yeah. Which is. It's a gear change.
Colin
And I don't mind.
Bo
No, I don't mind.
Colin
It means a lot.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
So if you think you're bothering us by saying, hey, we love the show, you're getting dapped. You're not getting.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Craft. Okay.
Bo
Daft. Not craft.
Colin
Daft. No crap. Don't you worry.
Bo
I think for harm's way, probably. When is this coming out? This. So this will have come out after the bottom one show that is now sold out. That's cool. That's a. It's nice to be able to pack a room in your hometown with your buddies.
Colin
Oh, man.
Bo
You know.
Colin
Hey. Hey, man. This is our third year doing the 818 show.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And, like, that was so not a thing when we were growing up.
Bo
Totally.
Colin
So to be able to contribute and create this thing out of thin air for the. For the community that happens annually. We're very proud of that. Especially on a record that is damn near 4 years old now, swear to God. I'm working on it. I think also twitching tongues, just still being able to play at all, which is kind. It's like. It's nice that we. We've got these four albums out, which is a lot of music. You know, some bands don't make it there that we. It's like we can finally play off those and then when a new thing comes, that'll be great. But it's not as urgent because we've got a lot for people to discover.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
What stupid song do you sing to your dogs or cats?
Bo
Oh, boy. I know a lot. Yeah, I know you got a lot.
Colin
I got a lot.
Bo
What do you got? Let me hear.
Colin
There's. Well, there's a. There's a rendition I do of the Beach Boys. Little Saint Nick to Zoe, called Little Best Friend. She's my little best friend. You know, I'm not gonna sing it here. I'll record it when she does. But there's a couple. There's a. There's a couple other ones, but that. That's the main one that comes to mind.
Bo
Do you know in Billy Madison when Veronica Vaughn sings and she goes, billy.
Colin
Sweet Billy, Billy boy.
Bo
So I say, I have squid as my cat say, squiddy sweet squiddy boy. I don't know. It just came, you know, I don't know.
Colin
Don't I have a nice rock? Yes. Yeah.
Bo
But.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
And I also. Nickname for Metallicat is Kronk, for it's long story and cr. Any single syllable word you could fit into like anything. So whatever the song of the day is, which today is just like deck the halls or something because of what the Patreon is going to be. And it's like deck the halls with balls of cronky. Like it doesn't matter. It just fits into anything. So it's. It's obsessive.
Colin
The anatomy of a pet nickname is so fascinating when you think about how you got there.
Bo
Okay, you know. You ready for this, Chili? Yeah, please.
Colin
Chili.
Bo
Yeah, I know Chili.
Colin
And I. Yeah, Chili Chillium. Bill. Because of Billy. Because of William.
Bo
William. Yeah.
Colin
Bilbo.
Bo
Bilbo, which is like. Bilbo is a perfect nickname for a small dog.
Colin
100. And I. I almost never call him Chili. I get home and I go, bilbo. And he runs down.
Bo
I never call Metallica. Metallica. He's Metallica. And then I went on a tour once, came back, he got fat. So he was kind of chunky then. He was chunky. Then he was cronk. And the. The further adaptation is Walter Cronkite. We leave it at Cronk. It's weird to call a cat a three letter or three syllable.
Colin
No, it's too much. Too many.
Bo
Metallic cat.
Colin
Four. Two max.
Bo
Yeah. Two max.
Colin
One is a dream.
Bo
Yeah. Crop.
Colin
Somebody asked thing you're most proud of with the podcast this year. We kind of answered that already. But that it's still going.
Bo
Yeah. Dude.
Colin
You know that we've been able to figure out something to talk about every week.
Bo
There's a lot of weeks in the year.
Colin
Tired. But I'm. But I love it every time.
Bo
Yeah. It's awesome.
Colin
I feel very lucky. Is it annoying if people like your older work more than whatever you're making into at the time? I don't think it's annoying. I think a lot of response. Your personal response to art is so dependent on your mindset when you discover it that you're, you know, no bands album is. You can't hope to be like, I'm gonna make something that everybody's gonna like more because that's just not how art works.
Bo
And I don't. It's not annoying to prefer something. What I do think is annoying is like to write off a band as though you didn't like the first two records because the second two or the third and fourth record are like not your thing. It's like. Well, they're still there.
Colin
I do think. And then the. The thing that sucks is if. If you love a band's first two albums.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Right. And then you. You don't really. You're not sure about the third one. You don't care for the fourth one. Therefore you hate the first two albums now.
Bo
Yeah. It's just like what that was still exists. Yeah. And they're. They're still good and they're probably still gonna play tracks.
Colin
Exactly.
Bo
So just. Yeah. I don't. I don't understand the like there. Dude. There are a lot of bands whose later records I don't really care for. But I fucking. It's like.
Colin
Exactly.
Bo
Doesn't make sense. Metallica still buying the shirt, you know. Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
Let's see. Do you. Will you and Beau ever do that dark industrial project that always gets brought. I would love to.
Bo
I could see it happening next year. It did. It's just like time. It's just time, man.
Colin
Colin's only so much.
Bo
Colin has got the fucking. The minds of Moria going on all the time. He's got so many irons in the fucking fire. That's too many And I'm just.
Colin
My New Year's resolution.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Say no to stuff more.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
And drastically reduce my creative output.
Bo
Yeah, you got a lot.
Colin
I'm. I'm gonna have less. How did you and Bo first discover hardcore?
Bo
I'm trying to. To think of when is the first time. It was. It was the same day I met John Caution and James. We went to a show. My friend Remy drove me and Chris and two other friends to a show at the Darien Sportsplex where that clip was from. And it was Blue Monday, I think d. Desperate Measures was like the reason we went sick. And a couple local bands.
Colin
And that was just somebody telling you, we're going to see these bands, you're going to see them, you're going to like.
Bo
It was always Chris. Chris always knew about shows coming up. I don't know how, but I think he was. You know what? There was Chicago hardcore.net was like the local message board. Chris found it and was just like, oh, there's a show happening that we could drive to. It's in the suburbs.
Colin
Okay.
Bo
And that was when I was like, oh, this isn't like the lights are on. This is a DIY show that we're in a sports. We're in like a classroom, essentially.
Colin
Right.
Bo
And that was the first time where I was like, oh, this is. This is hardcore. I'm not at the Metro seeing American Nightmare or something. Like, this is like a little. Like, this is a secret. This is a little secret society. No one knows about this. There's 80 people here. Sure. That was. That was. So it was like Chris and then going to that show. Oh, it's Stand In Fight. I bought the edge hoodie off of wrench from 10 yard fight, which I have somewhere. It's the size Youth Large.
Colin
God damn. How did you look up. Let me look up when this came out, because that'll. I was five years old, which is. I think it's well documented at this. At this point. My. Our oldest. Our eldest brother, Aaron. Aaron Young, Bristol, Connecticut, went to school with the Grippo brothers, who are Connecticut legends. One of them, Matt, the. The younger of the two, I think, left a burned CD with a bunch of stuff on it. First of which was Grimlock Thirst for Immortality, which. The opening track, Mountain of Power, is just Bell. And then Paul muting for about three minutes. And I knew. And it was like. Taylor first was like, this is it.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And he told our dad, I want that dad. How do I hear more of that? And he called it Junjun. He go, dad, I want to hear Jun. Jun. I don't know how else to describe it.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And he wanted Ride the Lightning, but my dad was like, that's crap. We're getting Soundgarden.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
Both bangers.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
So it's.
Bo
Was it the Soundgarden record?
Colin
Yeah, it was super unknown.
Bo
Yeah. I mean, yeah, there's some on there, for sure. Yeah.
Colin
I mean, he put Spoon man on, and I'm going, I'm loving it. I was all in. So Spoon man rocks. Soundgarden rocks. But Grimlock was the band that, for Taylor and I, at the same. In the same moment, we're sitting there like, jaw dropped. I'm like fist deep pulling boogers out.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
But I'm. I'm. I can't believe what I'm hearing. You know, I got to get the boogers out of my nose so that my ears can hear better to hear these palm beats for the first time.
Bo
What was like.
Colin
Grimlock was the man that did it. And when I tell people from Massachusetts that, they laugh.
Bo
Really?
Colin
But. But I love Grimlock.
Bo
What was the first like. Like DIY show you went to?
Colin
Taylor's band, One Round Left, which was like a tiny local band in California.
Bo
It's kind of a sick band name, actually. One Round Left just because, like, it could be a bullet, it could be at a fight. One Round Left, like. Yeah.
Colin
And they embraced both. They had shirts with the guys on them and they had shirts with, like, a revolver on them.
Bo
Pretty dope.
Colin
Sick.
Bo
Yeah, pretty sick.
Colin
Yeah. They were pretty good. There's a lot of straight ruckus parts that we just used again. So that seeing them for the first time was my first time, like, experiencing.
Bo
Live hardcore, real hardcore. Where was the show? Do you remember?
Colin
I think it was either at Studio S or the Cobalt. I get. I get them confused to which one, which one, which band I was seeing at which one? Because there was a Fight Everyone show a few months later. That was like my. My other first show where. I think that was at Studio S. Gotcha. Studio S was a warehouse in an alley in North Hollywood where terrible things happen.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
It was amazing. Incredible place. My first band played there six months later. Metalcore band called Buried In Silence. Never wrote a single lyric. Just made noise sick. You would never. You would never know.
Bo
Like. Like noise.
Colin
Just like tort. Just like torture, baby. Same thing. But I was. While the exposure. Knock loose getting is remarkable and well deserved. Do you feel this odd pull back and forth that hardcore is traditionally built on an underground anti pop culture ethos? Of course.
Bo
Dude, but that is anti pop. Like, it doesn't matter.
Colin
I mean, it is because somebody. My dad. My dad knows better, but like my uncle or aunt.
Bo
What is this?
Colin
Watching that would be like, what the fuck is this? And they change the channel.
Bo
Like, I understand that it's on a national late night show. I get. I get that aspect. But like.
Colin
But that's still insane.
Bo
So.
Colin
And that's still not gonna be the norm.
Bo
So it was like X Games and MTV2 Headbangers Ball.
Colin
It's like Tony Hawk sold a billion copies.
Bo
Exactly. Tony Hawk is as mainstream as it gets. And you got all kinds of hardcore and metal bands.
Colin
You got ended out of that. You got Cosmic Joke out of that.
Bo
Yeah. Come on.
Colin
So I could go on forever, baby.
Bo
I just don't think it matters now.
Colin
You're over. Everybody's overthinking it.
Bo
Everybody's overthinking it. Like, and here's the thing. There will always be DIY hardcore.
Colin
Yes.
Bo
Nothing that that knock loose is doing is going to take away from that or like a negatively.
Colin
If anything, it makes it stronger because they go that.
Bo
Yeah. So it's like, what do you. Stop worrying.
Colin
So they're really helping everybody subliminally. What was your favorite moment with Beau this year? And why was it so memorable this year?
Bo
What a question.
Colin
Yeah, I mean, I think Family Feud was like unbelievable.
Bo
Family Feud was awesome. Especially some of the like crazy coincidences that happened.
Colin
Yeah. Then they were not coincidence. We'll call it that. It was all the master plan that came together.
Bo
I just mean to say they weren't planned. Like that wasn't staged. Yeah.
Colin
I love the two loop ads we did in person ones.
Bo
Dude, the one.
Colin
Those were so fucking funny.
Bo
How's it going? But I haven't seen you running up to you. The outtakes.
Colin
There was like 10 straight minutes of laugh outtakes. I like that, dude.
Bo
I really like. This doesn't really have to do with like the show per se, but when you, me and Mac went to Universal, that was incredible. It was so fun.
Colin
That was so fucking.
Bo
And I was in.
Colin
Can't wait to do it again.
Bo
Yeah. I was in dire pain. I threw my back out during Weapon X and I was hobbling all over that park. I was having a ball. It didn't matter.
Colin
Yeah, didn't.
Bo
Fuck.
Colin
I got. We got to go back. We got to spend two days there.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
I got to see the new park, dude.
Bo
Is it done? Well, it's supposed to be done next year. Yeah.
Colin
Fucking horseshit.
Bo
You know, they're adding Donkey Kong country to their Super Mario World.
Colin
It's going to be.
Bo
And then did you see what the other part of the new park is?
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
It's the monsters universe. Or right, like. Like the, you know, vampire Dracula, Universal monsters.
Colin
Yeah. It's gonna rip. It's gonna be the greatest.
Bo
I cannot wait.
Colin
Can't wait to go back. Sky yes or no.
Bo
Ska always sky without horns. Except for boss tones. That's my stance.
Colin
Sky with horns. Now more than ever is my answer.
Bo
My favorite type of scar slash reggae is Time Bomb by Rancid.
Colin
There's some horns in there. Probably tuck back.
Bo
Way back there. Taylor and I were discussing the other day. I think Rancid might be one of the coolest band names of all time.
Colin
100% it. You. You get everything you're gonna get from the band in the name.
Bo
And what's crazy is she was saying that if you look at up like synonyms for Rancid, like putrid, rotten.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Like they don't hit as well.
Colin
They're like, no, but they're all also bad names now.
Bo
But. But kind of like don't do the same thing as Rancid for some reason.
Colin
But is it. Is that because Rancid is so sick that we think of the word differently?
Bo
I think the. The literal enunciation of the word does. Rancid. Rancid just like, dude, you know what.
Colin
Else rock that we did this year was AVN and Punk Rock Museum back to back.
Bo
Oh, shit. That was this year.
Colin
That was this year. That was two of our greatest things we've ever made in two days. Pretty cool.
Bo
It was a lot of fun too. I loved the Punk Rock Museum. I loved that we were like, all right, we got a guide. All right, we don't got a guide. Let's go.
Colin
We're the guy. Let me make some shit up.
Bo
It was fucking awesome. Yeah, I had a great. I had a great.
Colin
I think that is the thing though, like Punk Rock Museum related thing. Thing like tour on YouTube with the most views, which is pretty cool.
Bo
Oh, really? We're the number one tour of the Punk Rock Museum.
Colin
Pretty cool.
Bo
At Riot Fest this year, they had in a little mockup of the Fireside bowl, they had items from the Punk Rock Museum. Like things that you and I saw were at Riot Fest this year. It's wild.
Colin
Crazy.
Bo
It was wild. Yeah.
Colin
I just keep thinking about how all the misfit stuff says on loan from John Brannan, who is the singer of Negative Approach to the the Uninformed.
Bo
So cool. So Cool.
Colin
And they like same time. They were around the same time, but he just loved them.
Bo
There's, there's a set of the Misfits where like in between songs, some dude from a, like a TV or radio show is doing an interview with them live on stage. And they're just like doing an interview with the audience there. It's like in the set. And negative approach also played that show. It's the best.
Colin
Unbelievable. Hardcore trends. We need to leave in 2024.
Bo
Twitter, dude.
Colin
Twitter's over, man. It's so fucking shot.
Bo
It's shot, dude.
Colin
It's crazy how much better the world would be if we all just fucking got off.
Bo
Just got off of it.
Colin
It's such a pile of shit. Fuck you, Elon. Twitter sucks. People who actively call it X. Get his tiny little out of your mouth. Shut the up. Things place sucks.
Bo
I'm trying, I'm trying to think of actual trends within the community that I dislike, you know, because I can't. Yuck. Someone's yum. I, I, I just, I think the, the mindset of. Dude, here's, here's one. Don't worry about gatekeeping. Just don't worry about it. When, When I was 14, 15, I was welcomed into the scene by all the older guys who were younger than I am now. You know what I mean? They were in their 20s and I was, I was a teenager.
Colin
And it was the, the thing, I think people's concern is how great the barrier of entry is now, you know, but you can get in from so many places, much like a band playing on Jimmy Kimmel.
Bo
Sure, but how many, how many stories have you heard of, like, oh, this scene was really good like four years ago, and then everyone moved away from college and then the scene kind of died.
Colin
Sure.
Bo
That is the thing. The ebb and flow is a thing that happens. But I just don't think, like, I don't think Girly Biscuits have a song called no Reason why and it goes. There's no reason why to beat up on the poser skin. There's no reason why to keep the little kids from getting in. And it's just all about, like, you don't, you just don't just. If somebody asks you something, just like provide, like share. It's a community. Like, maybe you can be the one who keeps them coming around.
Colin
Totally.
Bo
None of us got into hardcore knowing all of our shit. And that's just a ridiculous. We all got here from a Grimlock CD that people laugh at you about later on.
Colin
Sometimes you're five. Sometimes you're 15, sometimes you're 25 total. And that's sad, but it's. You know, you end up here nonetheless. And that's. That's what it's all about.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And Judgment also has a song called no Reason why. And the lyrics are all in Japanese except for the words no reason why. So it's pretty cool.
Bo
Do you have any trend that you're particularly trend?
Colin
I think if you army crawl on stage, I should be able to stomp your head like jelly, you know, completely. That's for me to crawl on. I also just spit there. What are you doing?
Bo
Like death proof. Like when she. They crush Kurt Russell's head.
Colin
Jelly. No, you're fine. I think everybody just. If something's a trend, trends are looked back at stupidly a year later.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
So trends don't live forever. Just let people do what they want. Live.
Bo
Some trends I would like to see is like better stage diving, something we've been championing for a long time. Run and jump, don't fall.
Colin
You know, I just want to hear more great new bands. How about we. How about we focus on that?
Bo
That's the trend, the best.
Colin
The trend should be great new bands. Don't worry about writing the hardest part. Don't worry about writing the. Just also be yourselves. You know, you don't need a lie.
Bo
You don't need a lie.
Colin
Don't. You don't need to be the hardest band ever. But like twig, twig, breakable limbs aplenty. You know, little stick scrawny men. Just play what you know. Okay. You can talk about how school is hard. It's fine.
Bo
It is.
Colin
That's hardcore too.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Somebody said favorite type of dog in all caps.
Bo
Dude, you know what? I have kind of the most cliched answer. But every time I see a golden retriever doing anything, it makes my day.
Colin
They're very kind.
Bo
Dude. They just look like when they're just holding something and the tail is going insane. I'm happy. I'm so happy.
Colin
That's the best thing ever.
Bo
So that's my big.
Colin
I'm a big schnauzer guy. Miniature or giant or regular. I love them all. The giant schnauzers. Is the crate one of the craziest creatures I've ever seen in person. It's the thing that should not be, but somehow it'd be wild. Favorite horror movie of the year?
Bo
Well, I got tickets on Christmas Day for Nosferatu, so I'm sure that'll be your answer. I'm Hoping that'll be my answer because it's the one I've seen this year.
Colin
Yeah, I mean, I talk about all the time.
Bo
It's probably oddity over the substance, I thought.
Colin
Yeah, I love the substance. But oddity really rocked me in a. For horror. Like I'm horrified.
Bo
Yeah, right, right.
Colin
By this.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
It's got to be Oddity me up. Do you.
Bo
Are you going to see Masratu?
Colin
Oh, of course. I almost went yesterday.
Bo
Oh, really? Like an early screening. Damn.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
So early.
Colin
I know.
Bo
We're going Alamo Drafthouse. Yeah.
Colin
Have a great time. You're gonna get some wings.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Churro, popcorn, mozzarella stick. Beautiful.
Bo
Can't wait.
Colin
How difficult is it to come up with fresh new music after a double digit number of years in a genre that can be very derivative by itself? Where is the middle ground between repeating yourself and experimenting too much? Incredible question. It is extremely difficult. And that's why I started so many new bands. Because now what I used to do was one band would be my way of getting out every kind of idea which. Which people were. Did not react well to.
Bo
Sure.
Colin
Now I have a different avenue for like every extreme thing I can possibly think of.
Bo
You got all the stones, they're all there.
Colin
So if I have something that doesn't fit with one, I can easily place it in the other.
Bo
Of course.
Colin
And that's. That to me, is the solution. People think I'm crazy when in reality I'm sane for that. Because now they can all be their purest form.
Bo
The only thing I think is crazy about that is that they're all active.
Colin
Yeah, but act. But define act.
Bo
You know, Practice.
Colin
Yeah, practice, dude.
Bo
Practice is the. I got practice tomorrow night. I can't stand it.
Colin
I do too. For both. For two of them. And I'm. I'm already thinking about it. Practice sucks, man.
Bo
It's the worst.
Colin
But there's. I like the meme that's going around today.
Bo
Amazing.
Colin
It's very good. Here it is. Beautiful.
Bo
And the only people I see in the screen captures of it are all in your bands.
Colin
Yes. Or. Or like you can tell they're like the guy in their. Man.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
You know, it's amazing. Somebody brought up the hope that things like Knock Loose on Kimmel would lead to a resurgence of music programming on mtv. If they revived Headbangers Ball and asked you two to host it, what would you say?
Bo
I don't say when and where, dude.
Colin
I would say for one, there's no two people more qualified. Two. Yes.
Bo
They offer this to us, we say, you've made a great selection. Yeah.
Colin
Yeah. I would say, how dare you make such a great decision? Because there's no two people more qualified. Like, I'm gonna. For some reason, I would think, to sell us even more after receiving the offer.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
But mtv, if you're listening, there's no two men more qualified.
Bo
And yes, I think if. If you really had the autonomy to pick the bands and there wasn't pressure from, you know, whatever, like, even jostling, I would understand.
Colin
I think that has to come with. It is like, yeah, labels are like, hey, we've got this coming up. Okay. This is this new thing. But also let me do my thing. And yeah, ball.
Bo
So there's got to be a ratio, like a 75, 25 kind of thing. But if you could do it, I think it would be worthwhile. Yeah, I think it would be worthwhile. But they're not letting go of fucking reality bullshit.
Colin
No, I mean, dude, ridiculousness kills all that.
Bo
It's.
Colin
They don't need anything else that be.
Bo
Listen, I love Rob Dyrdek, but I don't get it. That show. I don't get it. Never clicked with me.
Colin
I like Rob Dyrdek. I loved Big Black.
Bo
Dude.
Colin
That's one of the greatest entertainers to ever live, you know, Man Pond.
Bo
I saw him once. You know that?
Colin
What was he doing?
Bo
He was at Woodfield Mall. He was doing a signing. But I saw him walking and the line for the signing was insane. It was that finish line. He was like, doing a fucking. But I physically saw him. It was right before he died. But Robin Big was incredible. And I love Fantasy Factory, too. Oh, yeah, both shows outstanding.
Colin
He's. He's a. He's a. He's a historic grinder. He's incredible. Big Black was genuinely one of the funniest people to ever live.
Bo
So funny. Dude.
Colin
Rip. Top five album closing songs. This feels like a whole episode. I don't know if we can give this up.
Bo
Should we.
Colin
I think. I think we'll say coming soon. Hard Lore's best, favorite album closing song.
Bo
Have we not done album. Album closers?
Colin
No.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
Coming in January.
Bo
Yeah. So we should do. Maybe we should do openers and closers.
Colin
We've done openers.
Bo
We did opener. We did openers and not intros. Right, right, right, right.
Colin
We did openers.
Bo
Closers.
Colin
Could you guys give us at one confirmed guess for the new year? Yeah, we already said. We already spoiled Porter last week so that Mark Porter from Floor Punch is happening. Jeremy Bom, Touche amore. He's coming on very soon. Todd Jones Nails coming on very soon.
Bo
What more do you want?
Colin
We'll probably have missing link on early next year. You know, we're all coming. Brittany Drake, she's coming full episode. Haven't asked her yet, but she's in. Top five hardcore songs by death metal bands. Angel of Disease by Morbid Angel.
Bo
Hardcore songs by death metal bands.
Colin
Yes. Like where you listen to it and you go, this is a hardcore song.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
Cenotaph by Bolt Thrower.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
You'll hear a couple familiar riffs in that. And Scourge of Iron by Camel.
Bo
Dude, I was gonna say scourge of Iron, but I didn't want to be like, that's pure death metal. But that I hear it.
Colin
It's a fucking hard question.
Bo
Bolt Thrower has several answers.
Colin
Oh, yeah.
Bo
Kill Chain is very bouncy, very core. Yeah.
Colin
If I were run into either of you guys, would you put me in a chokehold for a pick? I would prefer not to, but if you ask me in the moment, I'll probably say yes.
Bo
If I'm.
Colin
I'm saying now, I'll be bummed about it.
Bo
Yeah. I don't want to touch. I don't like touching.
Colin
And if it's you, yeah, but your neck, that's. That could stank.
Bo
And if the waiver and permission is given on video, we can do that. That's fine.
Colin
Right? Right. So true. For an entire month, you can only eat one meal, one dessert, watch one TV show or movie, and listen to one album. Or what are your picks for meal? In n out. Burger, dessert. Well, hold on. The question here is, will I still be skinny at the end of this? Am I allowed to still be skinny?
Bo
Let's just say for the sake of.
Colin
I got shirts I need to fit in.
Bo
Then, yes, for the sake of an.
Colin
Interesting discussion, yes, I get to stay skinny. In n out. Burger is the meal. The dessert is the creme brulee crepe from Millet Crepe.
Bo
Fuck.
Colin
Yep. And the one TV show or movie is the Muppets Christmas Carol. Since it's December. And the one album or artist is since it's December, Bad Religion.
Bo
All right, let's see. The one meal. It's going to be Chipotle. Just because I know I can.
Colin
You get to be skinny.
Bo
But dude, I don't. I'm landlocked. I. Okay, Portillo's. Fine. If I get to be skinny. Portillo's. That's a great answer. Portillo's. That makes More sense.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Dessert. It's gonna be crumble. Because, hey, that's a different thing every week.
Colin
Yeah. You ever see. Dude, Society just has to accept that crumble is good. You know?
Bo
Yeah. So we got it last night.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
They have a strawberry crinkle is what it's called right now. It's a cookie that is a straw. The strawberry Pop Tart. Warm.
Colin
Like, I would never eat that. But I understand the appeal.
Bo
It's outstanding.
Colin
I do think that they're straight up. Chocolate chip cookie is like, untouchable. I cannot believe it.
Bo
I really like insomnia. But as long as I need the goo. I like the goo.
Colin
I need the goo.
Bo
I understand.
Colin
Or bake that cookie for me.
Bo
I understand that people think it might be.
Colin
Put me at risk.
Bo
Yeah. Put. But put me at risk.
Colin
Yeah. Plus TV show or movie.
Bo
Lord of the Rings trilogy. No. Sopranos. I can't Sopranos legitimately. And actually in December. That's typically when I watch the Sopranos. So that actually fits. Something about it is very Christmas Eve to me. I don't know why New Jersey? It's cold all the time. Yeah. And artist dude. The Nat King Cole discography for December. Yeah.
Colin
Great aunt dude. He's got so many Christmas bangers. It's out of control.
Bo
Speaking of Christmas bangers.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
For the Patreon of this month. Which is probably out by now. But if you haven't signed up for it.
Colin
It's out by now.
Bo
It's out by now. If you haven't signed up for it. You should. We're discussing and ranking the best Christmas songs of all time. Think about that.
Colin
That's right.
Bo
I got 74.
Colin
74 bangers is hot lore. Just Scooby Doo cosplay. 100% who's who.
Bo
Your Velma.
Colin
I would say I'm a little bit of Velma and a little bit of Shaggy. You're a little bit of Daphne and a little bit of Scooby and Shaun. Say is Frith and.
Bo
And. And Brody is scrappy.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Scrappy.
Colin
Absolutely.
Bo
It's pretty good.
Colin
What is the hardest each of you have laughed this year?
Bo
Wow.
Colin
There's a couple. Sometimes Lana sends me, like, reels or tiktoks every night.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And there's a couple that absolutely obliterate me. The one that I revisit the most is the Gigi in Milan, Italy, in like 2018 one. You know what I'm talking about? Oh, my God. GG I'm a big fan of you. I could. I'll watch that every day. And laugh. But. But of this year specifically.
Bo
Oh, man. You know, it's always something like you're in the van and somebody just says something and you're in a silly mood. And it's probably something I can't repeat publicly, you know, But I would like to think together.
Colin
Yeah. What was our hardest laugh this year together?
Bo
Probably. Fuck. I know what our hardest laugh ever is and it isn't something we could talk about.
Colin
The poll.
Bo
Manchester.
Colin
Oh, my God.
Bo
But perhaps something in. Oh, dude. The poll. Oh my God, dude.
Colin
I think. I think Frank Castle beat. Beat the pole. Yeah. I think we were laughing for two days.
Bo
I feel like avn. We were just like giggles.
Colin
We were the whole day.
Bo
Because it was so uncomfortable that we're all just. I can't think of a specific.
Colin
We had the peepee. Ha ha.
Bo
That like that really popped me.
Colin
No, it's definitely just something somebody said on Fortnite one night or something that I can't remember. Are festivals worth it in terms of pay? Merch sold, Fans gain?
Bo
Yeah, 100.
Colin
They're the best.
Bo
They are the best. And there's several bands who. That's exclusively how they're able to operate.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
For better, for worse. It's. It's. It is a thing.
Colin
Is there a breakthrough point where you have to be so far up to Bill, so to speak, for it to worth it? Yeah, I would say, yeah. I think it's in. It depends. Sometimes you're pain of truth and you're a year in and you're second to last. But oftentimes it's like a band finally getting their flowers, you know, my. So it's like you're getting. You're getting recognized for the work you've done already.
Bo
I love particularly FYA is really good at it and I think LDB is pretty good at it where it's like, yo get there early because this band's opening and people fucking show up. And what's cooler than that? Nothing, you know? So I.
Colin
Very smart.
Bo
Fests are. Fests are 90% positive, 10% negative, I would say.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
And they're. They're great.
Colin
Is there any specific moment from a song or album this year that made you think, damn, I wish I came up with that.
Bo
Yeah. All the time. Let me check song or album this year. I need to tell you what.
Colin
I'll tell you what'll make you do that is learning 15 misfits covers.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
No, you go, what the. How do you do that?
Bo
Still can't believe the Ghoul's not Out.
Colin
That is where you want to be. Oh, my God.
Bo
Just up. Just ascending the whole time. It doesn't.
Colin
How did you do that?
Bo
How did you know to do that?
Colin
It's insane. I think the new Pallbearer record really scratched an itch that I've had for years. Just of like beautiful melodic doom. Fueled by emotion is like. That's my. That is oftentimes my most listened to genre. Really beautiful melodic doom. Sprung, spurned from emotion. So, yeah, that. That record really, really resonated with me.
Bo
I would say the Missing Link record. Yeah, that hit. That just gave me what I really. What I wanted.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
And it's. It's heavy and hard without going over the top. And there's just. Dude, the Gridiron song. I don't know, there's just like.
Colin
Yeah, it's a banger.
Bo
It's just awesome. I really like that record. And that's. That has become my. Like. I don't know what to listen to, but I want to listen to something heavy. With the exception of Dude Colin. Our playlists for the guest vocal episode.
Colin
Oh, it's. I've been listening to it for days.
Bo
It's so good.
Colin
It's insane.
Bo
We were.
Colin
I've been truly just on repeat at the gym for days.
Bo
I put it on this morning as I was like getting ready. That was.
Colin
It's insane.
Bo
Just put it on. It's awesome.
Colin
Truly out of control. Who would be the host of the Hard Lore Roast?
Bo
Oh, God.
Colin
It would be Brody King and it would fucking suck, dude.
Bo
It would be Brody King and it would be Alec.
Colin
It would be brutal.
Bo
They would. I would cry. I would weep and be horrible.
Colin
Yeah. It can never happen.
Bo
I'm not built for that, dude. I can't do that.
Colin
No, no, no. It has to be some kind of like reverse thing, like to get Ann Coulter on or something like they did with that one, you know?
Bo
Yeah, right.
Colin
Where she wouldn't do the roast, but she was a guest, but everybody just roasted her instead. It would have to be some kind of something like that.
Bo
Oh, I'm not strong enough for it. Not good.
Colin
Yeah, that's fair. What. What Muppet would do the best spin kick? Miss Piggy. 100%.
Bo
You think so? Why? No, yeah, I know she does that.
Colin
She does kung fu. It's Miss Piggy.
Bo
I'm just thinking animal.
Colin
Animal.
Bo
He's got that dog in him for sure.
Colin
I mean, it would be. It would be good. But Miss Piggy is literally like a classically trained martial arts martial artist.
Bo
Okay, fair.
Colin
Enough so there's no doubt in my mind. O, this is fun. As people who have toured a lot, do you think you can name all 50 states?
Bo
Absolutely.
Colin
You could. I think I do believe you could. I don't know that I could.
Bo
I have no doubt. Do you want to try?
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Do you want me to go or do you want you to go?
Colin
No, I want to go. Cuz I don't think I can do it.
Bo
Okay. Just start in an area and work your way down. Okay, I'm ready.
Colin
Main. Ding.
Bo
Ding.
Colin
Vermont, New Hampshire. Connecticut. Rhode Island. Massachusetts. New York. Pennsylvania. Ohio. Wyoming.
Bo
That's ten jumping regions.
Colin
Blazing. Yeah, I know. Nebraska.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
Illinois. Iowa. Arkansas. Alabama. We're going back around.
Bo
I got you.
Colin
Georgia. North Carolina. South Carolina.
Bo
Very good.
Colin
Florida. Huge.
Bo
Huge. It's a big one.
Colin
Big one. Did I get the whole east coast already?
Bo
Nope.
Colin
Missed a big one.
Bo
Couple.
Colin
Mm. Maybe I ended at. What? Pennsylvania.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Oh, Maryland.
Bo
Very good. That's 20.
Colin
20. Killing it.
Bo
Yep.
Colin
East. We'll go back. We'll go back there later. Okay, I got Georgia. Texas.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
New Mexico. Arizona.
Bo
Here we go.
Colin
The bad. The bad. California.
Bo
25.
Colin
Huge.
Bo
Halfway.
Colin
Halfway. Fuck. Oregon. Washington. Montana.
Bo
Very good.
Colin
I say Idaho already. I think I did.
Bo
Nope.
Colin
Idaho.
Bo
Come on, Poppy.
Colin
Colorado.
Bo
Very good. That's 30.
Colin
That was 35.
Bo
No, it's 30.
Colin
I'm stuck, man. Utah.
Bo
Yep. 31. All right, so at 31, you tell Batman when you want him to come in.
Colin
No, no, I don't want him yet. All right, I got this.
Bo
I'm looking for the signal.
Colin
Michigan.
Bo
Very good.
Colin
Minnesota. Those are big ones.
Bo
Those are big ones.
Colin
I swear to God, I was at that. That was 37. I don't think that was. This is 33, but I believe you. Wisconsin.
Bo
Very good.
Colin
Oh, Alaska. Very good. Hawaii.
Bo
35. 36.
Colin
Forget about those. 14 more. Seems like a lot. And I'm missing some east coast ones. Still, you said. I don't know.
Bo
Are you ready?
Colin
Yeah. Hit me.
Bo
Delaware.
Colin
Oh, Delaware. Huge.
Bo
Virginia.
Colin
Classic.
Bo
West Virginia.
Colin
I remember that one.
Bo
Tennessee.
Colin
Huge.
Bo
Kentucky.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Indiana.
Colin
Oh, never remember that.
Bo
Mississippi.
Colin
Oh, that's where my dad was born.
Bo
Louisiana. Oklahoma.
Colin
I would have gotten there. I would have gotten there. I talk about Tulsa all the time.
Bo
North Dakota.
Colin
Classic.
Bo
South Dakota.
Colin
Forgot about that one.
Bo
You did say Iowa. Missouri.
Colin
I did? Yep. Missouri. Missouri.
Bo
And then now we got two more. And I would kind of wish I was writing them down because I'm a little. But let's think here. Delaware.
Colin
Mr. Big Brain.
Bo
I just should have been writing them down. You pulling up a map? Yeah, I know they're east.
Colin
Yeah, I got all that.
Bo
You got Vermont. You got New Hampshire. You got Maine. You got the two off Continentals.
Colin
I think we've named them all. I think we just lost count.
Bo
Do you think we lost count? Oh, but there's no.
Colin
There's. There's a big one.
Bo
There's two that should be missing, if I was counting correctly. Okay, give me a sec. Give me a sec. You said Montana.
Colin
I see one missing. I think this is the funniest segment in the history of the show.
Bo
What's the one missing?
Colin
New Hampshire.
Bo
No, you said New Hampshire right away.
Colin
Did I?
Bo
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Colin
Absolutely I did.
Bo
Connecticut. Did you say Massachusetts?
Colin
Oh, yeah.
Bo
Which makes sense.
Colin
I don't think we missed any.
Bo
Okay, so maybe.
Colin
Maybe I was too. I think we just lost count then.
Bo
Maybe I was too off in my counting. My bad. Well done.
Colin
So if you're from the state we missed.
Bo
I don't know what to say.
Colin
Scream.
Bo
You said Georgia. You said Arkansas.
Colin
No, I think we just both. Both lost count.
Bo
Yeah, I think so.
Colin
Anyway.
Bo
Anyway. Yeah, we can.
Colin
As I digress, something important to actually talk about is Manscaped, dude. And maybe I would have been able to remember all 50 states if I had used my crop preserver this morning.
Bo
But you didn't. And now you're lacking.
Colin

Bo
You got to get on there. You got to get it before we do.
Colin
That's right.
Bo
Please.
Colin
Next question. Who. What's your favorite Kaiju?
Bo
There is. I don't know his name. There is a Godzilla monster. That is a big turtle with big, big like teeth.
Colin
Yes. Hang on.
Bo
Yeah. Would you. Would you mind? I don't know his name off the top of my head, but I've always liked him.
Colin
I believe you're thinking of Gamera.
Bo
I think I am.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Gamera. Wait, no. Is that right?
Colin
Let me make sure.
Bo
Gamora. Gamora.
Colin
No, they're like. None of them are from Godzilla Giant. I. I think you're thinking of. I think it's. His name is Gamera.
Bo
Okay. Yeah.
Colin
That's a good. That's a great.
Bo
Total Gamera. I have A little. I have a little figurine of him. Yeah, this is absolutely him. He's not on island of Monsters or whatever. Yeah, yeah.
Colin
New. He's in New Age of Monsters for sure.
Bo
Okay, cool. I.
Colin
So there you go.
Bo
I've had an affinity for that guy since I was a little kid.
Colin
I just think he's cool just to love the shell.
Bo
I just like him.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
I like turtles.
Colin
I'm saying mine would be Hedorah.
Bo
Which one is that?
Colin
She's a little trash guy.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
It's covered and covered in goo and slime gum. Cool as King Ghidorah's, obviously.
Bo
You ever noted as well how often you watch the movie Speed?
Colin
It's been a while, but, you know.
Bo
I know it well right in the beginning when Sandra Bullock is talking to Cameron from Sarah Spewler or Ferris Bueller and she's like, ah, something. I got gum on me gum so that she could move seats. It's an incredible part and you just reminded me of it natural.
Colin
You're just thinking about it.
Bo
Just thinking about it.
Colin
Somebody asked if we'll get part twos from guests like Josta or Justice.
Bo
So that's. I would love to know which one you guys would like to hear because we would love to do that because frankly, probably the worst part about doing the show is figuring out what we're gonna do.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
So if you guys tell us what you want, we could probably make it happen.
Colin
Will there ever be a Hard Lore interview with ssd?
Bo
Dude, I would love to love that. There's only one guy to talk to and it's Al. And Al I don't think is in the best health. I was talking to him for a little bit like last. About this time last year, he sent me the SSD book. It's awesome. But I know he's. He's struggling with some stuff with some cancer and you know, he's going through it. So I, I don't, you know, it's.
Colin
It's all the best to Al.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Hope you rest up and when you're. When you're ready, let's go.
Bo
I would love to. If you haven't though, I would like to put something over Pat. Friend of the show from have Heart has a sit down in person interview with al that's on YouTube and it's outstanding. It's really, really good. It's like an hour long. It's. It's awesome. So beautiful.
Colin
Love it. What is both of your favorite local ass show memory? Mine. Right off the bat. I've Got two. They're both from the Cobalt Cafe.
Bo
I love that dude.
Colin
Ruckus and Zavalba. Zero paid was legendary because it was just Ruckus watching Zavalba and Zavalba watching Ruckus. That was the show where we asked Gilbert, the manager if we could have a water. The bartender looked at bartender looked at Gilbert and said, Gilbert, we're doing waters tonight. And Gilbert took a beat and said no. So no water. The other one would also be from the cobalt cafe where 25 to life was playing. Two paid Colin and Taylor. Yeah.
Bo
Do they have water?
Colin
I don't think 25 to life got water.
Bo
Mine would be the. The last few in the proud show was at a place that no longer does shows called the the Galaxy Room. And it was like a dance studio that did quite a few shows and there was like a horrible blizzard the night of the show. So turnout was like the few in the proud. Like it was like wow. If you're gonna be like. If you knew you were gonna go. If like it was like I have to be there. You were there.
Colin
Okay.
Bo
And like that was it. So it was like. It wasn't a very well attended last show but it was like everyone elite. It was like everyone who was there you knew were like I'm not missing this. So that was cool. And then the other one has to be the. It's not quite local, but I'm gonna call it because it wouldn't have happened without local hardcore dudes. And it was the Chicago Open Air Fest which is kind of a bigger metal thing. Got rained out. We did a last minute show with Knock Loose, Code Orange.
Colin
Oh right.
Bo
Harm's Way in Vain at the Metro.
Colin
Yeah, that's insane.
Bo
And that was day, day hours before the. The show happened and there was nine people paid.
Colin
Fucking miracle.
Bo
Miracle is on. It was awesome. That was one of my favorite memories, period.
Colin
I love it. Every touring band seems to hate playing Germany. How come there's pretty much always four plus dates there on most Euro tours? I think, I think as for as much hate as Germany gets, it's important to clarify that it is maybe per capita the most die hard music audience on earth.
Bo
And other than maybe Brazil and the U.S. i think. But like. Yeah, but dude, I would say it's different there. The importance is it's. Yeah, it is different. You're absolutely right.
Colin
It is very different. I mean it is like the demo. Nothing bands can be cult like in Germany right off the bat. They are, they are fans that will stick with you through your worst and they will tell you that it's your worst. To your face. You suck now, but good shit. But they're still with you. You know, they don't give up. Also, just geographically, it's huge.
Bo
It's huge. You're gonna crisscross to go to East Europe, into France and. And get over to the UK or whatever. You got to do your. Or. Or to get up north to Scandinavia or south to.
Colin
You gotta go through Germany. And it's cheaper to play a show in Germany than to skip it.
Bo
And that's that. And we've. We've talked about this before. So I don't feel like I'm. I'm. It's like insider baseball or anything. But there are some venues. There's a lot of venues that get subsidized money from the government because it's.
Colin
Somebody in the pest control comments episode last week said we were dead on about that. And I.
Bo
We know, we know. So they get money from local government to put on youth activities, which is great. That's an awesome thing. I fully support that. But unfortunately, what that means is if a tour comes through and the package cost a thousand euros, let's just say. And the budget for that week at that venue is from the government. A thousand euros. The. The promoter does not necessarily have to care about promoting the show.
Colin
There's no incentive of doing anything else.
Bo
Because they're not going to lose.
Colin
Their bands are already paid. They don't even need to show up.
Bo
And. And that can be problematic. That can lead to no one knowing about the show.
Colin
And it's happened every time is how that works.
Bo
And it's. And it's happened. So.
Colin
But bands don't hate to play Germany. It's just. You have to play Germany the most with the way that Europe. Europe is geographically spread and not every little fucking village is going to have a strong hardcore scene.
Bo
Exactly.
Colin
That's how it is.
Bo
Yeah, Exactly. So. And also, like, hate is a strong word.
Colin
Yeah. It's not every. We're all lucky to be there.
Bo
We're all lucky to be there. So don't. Please don't take that to heart. It's the coolest thing.
Colin
That was this guy's question. That was not me.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Phrasing that.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
We're all. We're all privileged to. To get to travel the world playing punk music.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Favorite holiday TV special.
Bo
Holiday TV special. Damn, boy. I haven't watched TV in a long. Oh.
Colin
Or just like an episode of a show.
Bo
Yeah. So probably it's gonna be an Office episode probably Benihana Christmas.
Colin
Benihana Christmas is unbelievable.
Bo
It's unbelievable. Do you ever notice that the. The two waitresses at the restaurant are not the same two who go back to the office?
Colin
I think that Mindy Kaling wrote that episode and she's talked about how like it was. That was a joke on top of.
Bo
The joke on top of the joke. So not only is it not them, they don't know who of the God.
Colin
And we as the audience probably didn't notice the first time.
Bo
Exactly. One of the hardest laughs I've gotten out of that show is when Michael's riding in the bike in the very beginning, goes, merry Christmas.
Colin
Merry Christmas.
Bo
Just like swearing immediately is so funny. The BLEEP is perfect.
Colin
Listen to this question. Bo ready? Would you rather break edge or eat Subway once a day for a year? Holy Subway once a day for a year. My edge is unbreakable.
Bo
Well, here's the thing. We're putting my principles against my principles. So it becomes a meta question of what is the function of what I'm doing. So am I suffering for a year or am I suffering for a night?
Colin
Breaking edge, you could say, is suffering for life. And also Subway has incredible cookies. You could just do that.
Bo
I could just eat the cookie and that counts as eating Subway.
Colin
You eat Subway once a day. He made the mistake and I said, that's fine.
Bo
I mean the cookies.
Colin
Boom.
Bo
Thank you.
Colin
Foot long cookie bits.
Bo
That was a monkey paw thing right there.
Colin
What was your signature Red Bull flavor be?
Bo
Oh, cool question.
Colin
Mine would be the White Monster. It would taste exactly like the White Monster.
Bo
Maybe. I really like the blue Foria. I really like the sparkling herba mates as well. So it would be somewhere in there something, but not super sweet or fake sweet. Dude, that new one, the like Christmas vanilla berry thing.
Colin
Yeah, yeah.
Bo
It tastes like peeps to me. I can't stand it.
Colin
I got you. I don't touch any of that stuff.
Bo
There was a crab. Remember the first summer one was like.
Colin
A cranberry one I didn't fuck with. I've never fucked with any of the seasonal flavors.
Bo
I liked the cranberry one, but that was it.
Colin
That's fair. And also, if your local coffee shop had a drink named after your band, what would it be? Yeah, we're switching tonic, baby. Oh, come on, get to work.
Bo
That's really good.
Colin
Easy.
Bo
They're gonna do some fucking. I know I can design it, but I can already just imagine some like, harm's way protein latte. Yeah, but maybe, maybe just Like a nice chai.
Colin
Chai.
Bo
Chai. Chai. Town Players Club.
Colin
Nice chai. Ooh. You could do ground coffee bags.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Breeding grounds. Breeding grounds.
Bo
Coffee brewing grounds. Wow.
Colin
There we go.
Bo
Done.
Colin
Done. What hardcore band do you think should be in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame?
Bo
Cold brewing grounds. Hardcore band. I mean, like, legitimately af.
Colin
Yeah. Agnostic Front.
Bo
Like, no question about it. They're still rocking.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
And, like, rocking. They're awesome.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
And I told you.
Colin
Or I mean. Or the Bad Brains. Bad Brains will be in there.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Before anybody, probably.
Bo
So you could kind of see all the classic, like, misfits. Black Flag, Bad Brains. I could see any of them doing it. But the one that should. That didn't break, like, disappear and, like, you know, whatever. It's f. Yeah.
Colin
Uncompromising. Still rocking to this day. Still the coolest.
Bo
Yep.
Colin
Most generous with their time and what they've done.
Bo
Or hate.
Colin
Or hate.
Bo
Bridle happen.
Colin
Let's see. Mount Rushmore of 2024 Hard Lore episodes.
Bo
Holy shit. I got to go back. I got to look. I'm going to check.
Colin
I would say off the top of my head.
Bo
Yeah. Hit me.
Colin
Stigma. Easy Paris.
Bo
That was this year. God. My year is Punk Rock Museum. Yep.
Colin
I've said a lot of Episodes lately are, like, some of my favorites ever.
Bo
Hard songs by soft bands. Collins. Journey in Japan, Texas tour recap. LDB Fest. Maddie. That was good.
Colin
That was good.
Bo
Connie. Heaviest band.
Colin
I would say prob. Probably Scott Vogel would be number four.
Bo
Yeah. Okay. I'm gonna say just because I love them. Queen Mary. I love the Queen Mary episode. I'm gonna say Tom.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Stigma. And the heaviest band of all time. Tournament. I got.
Colin
That was fun.
Bo
I got. No, I've never gotten messaged more than that Tournament.
Colin
DSI typo, dude. But what's funny.
Bo
What's funny is, like, people were really split. There wasn't a. You're entirely wrong.
Colin
Like, I was not in my messages, brother.
Bo
Yeah, sure. Sure. Yeah. Because they're all.
Colin
But. Yeah.
Bo
No, Colin, you would never be wrong.
Colin
That's right. That's right. The good ones. Favorite hardcore record you listen to. Available only on YouTube. It's a great question. There's a lot of those. Every Japanese band I have, I'm in a Long Island Plex server, which is kind of dedicated to that. Made by the King. Pat. Pat Stankard. So that's kind of like, where I have to listen to, like, Judgment and even, like, Dead and Dying on that. Dead and Dying is a good. Is a good pick For I listen to on YouTube sometimes.
Bo
I, I've mentioned this about two things now, but, like, the remasters of some records that bands are doing are really bothering me. And there's Brotherhood. The DYS record is like, I can't believe how that was.
Colin
That one's insane.
Bo
Redone. It's insane. So the original version of that, the original version of Humanity is the devil. Stuff like that. Like, I just want what was put out. I don't really appreciate adding stuff.
Colin
Right.
Bo
Personally, that's my, my choice. That's my pick.
Colin
Fair. If you had a signature model, instrument, what make, model, color, spec would yours be? I, I, I'm, I think it's a long time away, but I'm kind of working on one, so I won't say, but it's really cool.
Bo
Same answer. Okay, there is definitely something, but we can't really go into it, but love it. That's. Who's, that's everybody's dream. Who doesn't want a fucking signature model?
Colin
If you could travel back and witness a historical event, what would you. I think this before, but I want to hear it again.
Bo
Great question. Well, it changes day by day. You know what I mean? Like, it really, truly. I just got a JFK book yesterday that I'm excited to read, which is kind of considered amongst both conspiracy theorists and like, Like, Warren Commissioned purists. It's considered like, the most concise collection of the story. So I'm really excited to dive into that, but lately I've just been thinking about, like, dude, I don't know, being. Being if. Could I be a fly on the wall at the moon landing? You know, like, in the moon, in the, in the studio.
Colin
Well, that's. I mean, is there not a greater unanswered question, you know, other than jfk? Here's the thing, dude, with jfk, do you ever think that maybe Lee Harvey Oswald just had an unbelievable shot and fucking nailed it somehow?
Bo
So the, the, the thing about him making that shot is not the unbelievable part. It's everything else around it. It's the fact that the CIA had a dossier on him, that he was in the military, that he defected to Russia and then came back with a Russian bride that was paid for by the State Department. He. The fact that they found him. The fact that they linked the, the murder of Officer Tippett to him, even though eyewitnesses saw multiple people running from the shooting. The fact that he was killed by Jack Ruby, who he knew within days of the assassination.
Colin
Right.
Bo
The fact that the Cadillac was cleaned out. The fact like there's all this stuff that's like. It's all the other things. Not necessarily the who did what.
Colin
It was an impossible shot.
Bo
It's. Yeah. Because it's not an impossible shot. I don't. I. I've seen. Dude. You ever go to like a. A gym, like an export or something or a Planet Fitness, and they're playing like the Inspire YouTube channel. It's just like people doing crazy trick shots and, like backflips. I can't do any of that. But I know there's people who can. You know what I mean?
Colin
Right.
Bo
So that doesn't really mean anything to me. It's sure. Everything else.
Colin
Okay. It's all sorry to get. I'm sorry to bring it.
Bo
And then you've. You pull in the. The Cubans and the CIA and the Vietnam War and lbj. Dude. There's so much. There's so much else.
Colin
Message Bo about jfk. He'll talk to you about it. John Borga said. How do you all feel when not only you see fans of the POD at shows? Which is the best to begin with.
Bo
Yes.
Colin
But when they say things like I'm here with this person and we met on the Discord or met from listening to the. I think ultimately above all things, that's the. That's when this is over. Which it will be someday. That's. That's our legacy. You know.
Bo
Absolutely.
Colin
It's getting core. Is. Is a community.
Bo
Yes.
Colin
And if we are doing things to boost the community, at the end of the day, that's. That's the goal.
Bo
Boost the community and get people into the music, into different bands, which is part of the community. But those are like the two pillars of what we really want to do.
Colin
We want it to grow in the right way and put people on to the things we love. And that's it.
Bo
That's it.
Colin
And so when people tell us there. There's nothing better. More I want to hear than me and this person met because of hard lore.
Bo
Both of us didn't have anybody to go to this show with. So we decided to link up and go to the show together.
Colin
Come on.
Bo
Come on. Dude.
Colin
The dream.
Bo
That's as cool as it gets.
Colin
Do you. With the band the Wonder Years? Never heard them.
Bo
Heard them. It's not that style of. I don't know if you would call it pop. I think so. That style is just not really my thing.
Colin
Gotcha. Yeah. Same. Will we ever get a Bad Religion episode? It's in the work. Thoughts on New Fortnite chapter. Best one yet.
Bo
That's crazy. It's an impressive. It's an impressive thing to say. What are the changes besides the. Just the Japanese style.
Colin
Oh, well, there's a sword is huge. The. The gun play feels amazing. Oh, so they change this like. Yeah. The Chapter One remix thing that just happened was awful. Everything felt inaccurate. Everything felt like shit. I had a terrible time playing and now I feel like a God and I'm playing on PC.
Bo
Are you playing mouse and keyboard or controller?
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Wow. I mean that's the big difference now. That's the big leagues.
Colin
It is for sure. It feels like it.
Bo
Mm.
Colin
Tips for recruiting drummers.
Bo
Hope in a prayer, brother.
Colin
Yeah. That's not. There's not. There's no tips there.
Bo
There's a reason you probably don't know a drummer who's only in one band.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Ain't happen.
Colin
Rare, man.
Bo
Rare.
Colin
Treat them well.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Because they're also insane. So you need to work on that. Do you watch fast food reviewers like Joey's World Tour? I don't know Joey's World Tour, but I've. I'm a day one subscriber to the report of the week. I like Joe is hungry a lot. Coco eats. She's greedy as hell. What she's doing on TikTok. She's a sick fuck. But I like it. All the ASMR people. I love them. All the people in Japan eating five pound cheese pizzas. I love that shit.
Bo
I can't. I can't watch people eat. It makes me uncomfortable.
Colin
I love it. Best thing you ate at Thanksgiving this year.
Bo
Dude. I. This is the most basic, boring, cliched answer. But like good old fashioned stovetop.
Colin
Oh my. Dude, we. There was. There was homemade and stovetop.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
For ours. And the stovetop is. How do they do that?
Bo
I don't know. Because all you add is water and butter. Like it doesn't actually make sense.
Colin
I don't know.
Bo
But good God.
Colin
It's perfect.
Bo
It reheats good for. Yeah.
Colin
Somebody said what makes or breaks a piece of merch? A certain design aspect. Garment type. I would say a bad blank is your. Your break. It breaks makes from a design aspect. That's the magic is there's a moment, there's an epiphany moment when you're putting a shirt together of like what is it missing? What does it need? Boom. Then that last element comes in. You're like, holy shit, we did it.
Bo
One thing I will say too. I was just talking about this before we started up the episode is when remakes are made. Hot Topic recently started carrying typo negative remakes of shirts. And you and I can both. We can look down the line and I could tell you every single one that Peter had nothing to do with.
Colin
Right.
Bo
And anyone that, like, this is probably inspired by this or like, close. This is close enough.
Colin
But it's typo shirts on Hot Topic.
Bo
Loads of them. A lot.
Colin
Loads of them.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
What's happening?
Bo
But they're not. There's one. There's one Dead Again shirt that is pretty sick actually.
Colin
But even that is like. That's all you could get. Dead Again.
Bo
Bands just don't know. They just don't know what they got. But. But yeah, I would say if I look at a shirt design, if I'm looking at immerse spread and I could see the design that is like, oh, you're. This is like a favor design that's kind of the. Like, I'm not.
Colin
Well, at a certain point, vans just hire out to make these things. So you can tell when that point comes? Yeah, sure. You can tell when some man's fucking need it, you know for sure. Like, dude, you made this and it sucks. Get help. If you could collab with dsi, what would the song be named? Song would be named God's Hate 2.
Bo
It was really good.
Colin
This is a funny question. How many vocalists know what they were doing vocally in hardcore? I would say half. Let's say half of hardcore vocalists are great at doing vocals.
Bo
Like Vogel Infernus.
Colin
Those guys know what they're.
Bo
They know what they're doing.
Colin
Dwid knows what he's doing. I would say half who.
Bo
Are there any classics who don't know what they're doing, but it still works?
Colin
There's guys who learned what they're doing. And then it gets worse.
Bo
Maybe we don't talk.
Colin
They lose that. They lose that. Our natural.
Bo
Oh, true. That's true.
Colin
A bit of an odd question. Which fictional character do you channel, whether it be on stage or in life?
Bo
Fictional character.
Colin
Other than the pedophilia. The Phantom of the Opera.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
I don't do that part. I don't rock with kids sexually, but I believe in the macabre, spooky atmosphere that he. That he lives by.
Bo
Going to go with. I'm gonna go with the Wolf Man. I've just always liked him. He's. He's always been my favorite.
Colin
It's a real diplomatic answer compared to mine.
Bo
Yeah, Well, I like the fact that he become. He turns into something that he can't control. Yeah, yeah. We've all been there, right?
Colin
Totally. All time favorite. Chubby Charles. Chubby. And the gang phrases. Two bikes with one ass is one I think about constantly.
Bo
That one's great. I literally, quite literally yesterday thought of. That's the fucking zoo.
Colin
Oh, my God.
Bo
When he was.
Colin
That was off the rip off that.
Bo
Just. Just him being him.
Colin
Holy.
Bo
So fucking. And then also. Oh, it's always good to see. Hive is performing in London. When we walk.
Colin
Oh, my God. It was just some guys like, dude, he was fucking outstanding on it. Dude, he was on it. When does a band become not the same band?
Bo
After replacing members, the vocalist can be really tough.
Colin
Vocal, replacing vocals is tough, but when it's just the vocalist who didn't write.
Bo
A single riff, then it's fine. It does. You're right. Like.
Colin
No, I'm out.
Bo
Oh, I'm sorry. Wait, wait.
Colin
I'm not interested. When does a band become not the same?
Bo
You're saying if it's just the singer, just the vocalist who didn't write a.
Colin
Single riff on the record left. You're saying I'm out.
Bo
Yeah. Okay.
Colin
You can't call the band that band just because you sang on some stuff. There's still. The guys that wrote the music are gone.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Come on.
Bo
So you're just kind of karaoke.
Colin
You're just. Yeah, it's just karaoke. And you. I don't even know if you wrote.
Bo
The lyrics, you know, Totally trying to think of. Of like. Like, Sepultura is a pretty good example of. It's still Sepultura. It's not the Sepulture that I would prefer to see. No, but it's. It's still.
Colin
Nobody feels that way, but everybody feels that.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
Thank you. I was like, wait, it's like. Nobody's like that. That Derek, I think, is an amazing example of. The guy's been in the band longer than Max was.
Bo
Right.
Colin
And, like, Max will always be the singer of Sepultura to most people.
Bo
Yes, 100%.
Colin
And that's. That's a testament to Max.
Bo
100%. Yep.
Colin
And I. And Derek is an incredible vocalist, an incredible performer, but the one thing he's not is Max Cavalera.
Bo
Sure.
Colin
And that it's. It's interesting. I. And. But Andreas as the songwriter.
Bo
Come on.
Colin
The man never slowed down. The man never stopped writing bangers.
Bo
And that's what I'm saying. I think that that's awesome. And that's why it's. I think it's still respectable in my Opinion.
Colin
Yeah, I totally agree. Number one band of 2024.
Bo
Number one band of 2024. Well, that's. I feel like that's hard, Lore.
Colin
That's a hard. That seems like a hard little awards type answer. We'll. We'll tell you in three weeks. Worst public fart of your life.
Bo
I. The up. Thing is, dude, I know you have this in a Rolodex in your head, and I don't. I don't have this, because I don't.
Colin
I would say one that affected me mentally.
Bo
The headphones was. Had to be.
Colin
No, that was fine. That was funny.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
You know.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
That was loud and like a bad fart.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
But it wasn't. It didn't, like, Wasn't detrimental to my well being.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
In fourth grade, I was blamed because I farted one time during reading time. I was blamed for every subsequent fart in the class for the rest of the year.
Bo
Lee Harvey Oswald.
Colin
Me. Dude, straight up.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Lee Shardy Oswald.
Bo
That's pretty good.
Colin
Thank you. And there was the one that I did during the reading time was brutal. Dude. This kid. I forgot. I think this kid's name was Ben. He was reading and I was next to him trying so hard not to fart. And I think I just breathed or something. I was like. While he was reading and he is reading, the thing stops to say, that was Colin, by the way. And then keeps reading, Little bastard snitch. And I was like, oh, my God. Like, when I think about the fart year, fourth grade, I. I like. I like, come to terms with why I had so few friends in elementary school. Because, like, you're not gonna befriend the fart kid. You know, it's tough. He's farting all the time.
Bo
And I don't. No one does that. But he does.
Colin
No. So that. And that's the other things you don't think about as a kid. Like, everybody does this. I know those girls were going home and shit in their pants, and I wasn't. I don't care. Yeah, that was tough. That one in fourth grade really stuck with me.
Bo
I have one funny anecdote about it. I found out really randomly one day, something that. That just causes a brutal response in me in that way. And it's like roasted garlic added onto any food dish. So I went and got ramen one night, and there was a bunch. I like, added extra roasted garlic because who doesn't like roast garlic? The next day we shot the Become a Machine music video.
Colin
You, your pants.
Bo
I know. It wasn't that. It was literally just gas. I was just like, all day, just horrendous. Horrendous.
Colin
Do you. Do you have a pants story? Like, have you ever shit your pants in a really inconvenient place or way?
Bo
When I was a kid. One time I was at a father son camp. My dad took me to a father son camp that was like, through the. The church that he was part of. And it was. It was all like, divorced fathers with their sons. So it's, like, really kind of heavy. And it's like, supposed to rebuild and like, renew, whatever, but there's rock climbing and like a rope swing and, you know, it was cool. I didn't know anybody. I was a literal kid. And I. I went off the rope swing into the river. It was in the upper peninsula of Michigan. And I got out of the river and I was like, oh, I got to go. So I started running to the toilet. There's only Porta Potties. And while I was running, I went. And I was in.
Colin
In the water?
Bo
No, no, I was out, but I was in shorts, so it just kind of. And. But what was. What was nice was everyone was swimming, so I ran straight to the showers.
Colin
Now, was it diarrhea or was it solid turf?
Bo
A little bit of both. I don't know what I ate. Yeah. Yeah, it was a bummer.
Colin
That'll get you.
Bo
How about you?
Colin
I. I've told the story on here before, but when I was working at Big Brother, it was five in the morning, light, pitch black outside. I shit myself in the backyard of the Big Brother house. And as I'm walking to the bathroom to clean myself, hiding poop in khaki shorts. The power goes out in the entire lot.
Bo
That's just.
Colin
It was incredible, dude. I think it was like, divine. Like, it was like, okay, you had fourth grade where you were the poop guy. I'm gonna. I can't have that for you at work, you know?
Bo
Yeah. St. Peter just, like, crossed your name. The gates opened, you were welcomed back.
Colin
And that was it. Dude saved my life.
Bo
Holy sh. Holy. Literally.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
Yeah. What are some songs on your gym playlist that would shock people?
Bo
I pretty much. With the exception of our guest spot playlist, I pretty much exceptionally list or exclusively, rather listen to. It's called the Moody Playlist on Spotify. It's all ambient, non vocal, really pleasant, like, almost video game, Stardew Valley kind of music.
Colin
Interesting.
Bo
Which is kind of.
Colin
I listen to a lot of, like, tech reviews while I'm working out.
Bo
I Like that.
Colin
I like Brain engagement.
Bo
Yes. Yeah.
Colin
It keeps me distracted.
Bo
I. If that's kind of what I do when I'm doing chores, I'll put that on. Yeah, put stuff like that on.
Colin
Because you just stop. You're not thinking about physically what you're doing. Your mind's thinking about what it's hearing.
Bo
Like, wow, he's installing a brand new radiator for his GPU cooler.
Colin
Dude, I love that.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Or like, why the 3080s better than the 40? You know? Hear that now? I really want to hear that.
Bo
Yeah, right.
Colin
Or like, the thing I listened to yesterday was about how building a PC is going to be way more expensive next year because of the Trump tariffs.
Bo
I'm saying this because you got yours in.
Colin
I got in. Dude, I got in right on time. But, you know, my ass is getting a 50 90.
Bo
You're sick, dude. You're sick of that.
Colin
I know, but then I get to give Lana my 49.
Bo
True. And that's exactly.
Colin
We can build her one together.
Bo
That's exactly what I'm doing with my computer. Yeah, that's right.
Colin
She gets that. Yeah.
Bo
I'm giving Lana on my computer.
Colin
Yeah, exactly. Favorite album from the year you were born.
Bo
87. Wow.
Colin
Great year.
Bo
Great.
Colin
Mine is Typo Negative, Slow, deep and hard. 1991, because Taylor's 87. And it's poetic because retaliation was 87.
Bo
Right.
Colin
So he has the last Carnival record. I have the first typo record of.
Bo
This brief list that I'm seeing. I will say, oh, Bad by Michael Jackson came out. But I'm gonna say, yeah, pretty fucking sick. But I'm gonna say Strangeways by the Smiths.
Colin
Love it.
Bo
Love that, Love it.
Colin
Did you ever get CDs in your Christmas stocking? Yeah, I got the CDs were wrapped.
Bo
CDs were wrapped. That's true.
Colin
CDs were wrapped. Stocking was like Charles and Chews.
Bo
Shoot. A lot of Charles and shoes. Did you get oranges in your stockings?
Colin
I don't think no. Dad was like, I'm not fucking putting oranges.
Bo
We got. We got. We got oranges by we. I mean my mom and me, because she put oranges on our stockings. The coffin box set was a Christmas present, as I said.
Colin
Right.
Bo
Possibly in the stocking.
Colin
Wow, that's a. And that's the greatest stocking stuff of all time.
Bo
You know what was always in the stocking? A video game.
Colin
That's really.
Bo
Because, like, a DVD case, you know, fits right in the stocking. It was so. It was always like, one thing that was. Dude, I. My mom. Props to my mom, but she always made Christmas like a banger. Like, every year she would get me kind of the thing. It was awesome. I don't know how she did it, frankly, but she did it. And one year I knew she got me Tony hawk for the N64 because I only had N64 and it was the night before Christmas and I was like, mom, you're going to make me go and rent this right now and we have to do it all over again. And I just pestered her all night until she fucking gave it to me. She was so mad.
Colin
She's like, taylor did the exact Same thing with WrestleMania 2000 for N64.
Bo
What a game.
Colin
Or is like, dad, listen, listen. We could play this right now and we'll leave. I can see it.
Bo
I'll leave you.
Colin
I can feel that through the package, you know?
Bo
Yeah. Yeah, it's great.
Colin
Most surprising person who is down with heavy music.
Bo
Great question. Down with. So let's say.
Colin
Here's the thing. I. Obviously we know this and. And it's well documented in last week's episode, but I don't. The. The general public doesn't know the extent that ice tea is down with heavy. Heavy music.
Bo
Dude.
Colin
No, he knows. He is fucking tapped in.
Bo
He's tapped in. That's a good point. That's a really good point. Saw him and. And the body count dudes like walk indicatoring at Hellfest. And there was.
Colin
That's one guy. I'm dapping. I'm going. I'm going.
Bo
Move. Really dab. Wow.
Colin
I don't. I've never met him. I've never seen him. He's getting dapped.
Bo
He looked. He looked cool. Body dude. Body count was wearing all body count gear too. It was pretty sick. Yeah, it was awesome.
Colin
Suicidal vibes.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Do you guys put glasses in the cabinets? Lit up or lid down?
Bo
Down.
Colin
Oh, I'm a really.
Bo
I have like a rubber mat thing and I have it down so no dust gets in there. I don't like dust.
Colin
Yeah, I don't have anything like that. I don't. Mine are not clean very long, you know.
Bo
Dude, do you.
Colin
Using those.
Bo
Do you have a dishwasher? Yeah, I just talked to my mom the other day. I haven't had a dishwasher since I moved out of her house. And you really. I. I'm. I only have two forks, two plates. Because it's just me, you know? And even then alone, I'm like, man, I'm always. I'M always.
Colin
Yeah. I have this thing where my legs get itchy when I'm washing dishes. I think it's an ADHD thing or something.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
So thank God I have a dishwasher.
Bo
There's also a level of bow clean. Because again, if it's just me and if I'm just cooking for me, I don't need my glass to be perfect, you know?
Colin
No, it was. I know. That's my lips on there. Rank Twitching tongues albums.
Bo
Can you give an honest ranking, do you think?
Colin
Yeah, I think so. I would go In Love Number one. I think it's our classic record. And I think that I'm at peace with that. I would go Gaining Purpose two, because I think two of the best songs I've ever personally written are on there. Disharmony three. Hardest one. And that's inarguable. And I think that's people's problem with it. Sleep therapy 4.
Bo
As your friend and as a genuine fan of your band, I 100% agree with that ranking. I think that's. I think that's the objective truth.
Colin
It's kind of subjective.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
You know?
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
All right. That's good. I'm comfortable with that. What animal would you anamorph into, dude?
Bo
Grizzly. Oh, I'd love to be a big old bear. Stand up. Just look around.
Colin
I would want to fly now.
Bo
That would be something.
Colin
Yeah. So probably eagle or bat.
Bo
Dude, Bat would be crazy.
Colin
That would be dope. But then I'm not deadly.
Bo
No, no. Do you want to be deadly?
Colin
Yeah, I think I need to be able to stand my ground.
Bo
Living as a bird seems miserable.
Colin
Yeah. You just anamorphing into a bird to get where I need to go.
Bo
True dope. Yeah, good point.
Colin
Make me an eagle. I'll be an eagle.
Bo
Bear. I'd just be sleeping and eating. I'd just be me.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
I don't. It's the same as I am right now.
Colin
Absolutely.
Bo
Oh, wait. Quick question, though. If I morph into my cat, can I talk to my cats?
Colin
Yes.
Bo
Done. Cat. Yeah. Make me like a bobcat so I can protect them. A lynx, maybe.
Colin
Yeah. No, that's. That is truly an unbelievable answer.
Bo
Thank you.
Colin
How are the shows with nails, Colin? I just didn't. Didn't even touch that. Huh. It's crazy.
Bo
Talk about it. Tell me about.
Colin
They were fucking awesome.
Bo
Tell me about the thing you saw that. I am so envious about everybody.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
See that played.
Colin
Played three shows with nails, which was just really cool. It was interesting at first to just like Watch and not see my brother playing. Yeah, but they. They make. They completely make it work. They're. They're locked the in. They, like, they feel like a legacy metal band now, if that makes sense, rather than, like a hardcore band.
Bo
Okay. You know, sure.
Colin
And then at the Belasco show, Max Cavallara came out and did Endless Resistance and Territory, and I felt like. Felt historic. And Max, turns out he's just the coolest guy ever. Exactly what we thought.
Bo
There's a video. I think it's someone from your crew. Who took it? I don't remember. Maybe Kyler. So somebody was stage left. I saw a video. And while Max is singing, there's a point where. What's the bass player's name of nails these days?
Colin
Andrew.
Bo
Andrew looks at Todd and they both give each other, like, a. Yeah, like, this is fucking crazy. This is awesome.
Colin
Yeah. They couldn't believe it, and rightfully so, because it was unbelievable.
Bo
So cool. So cool.
Colin
Yeah, they're really cool. I'm glad that we got to do that.
Bo
Sick. That rocks.
Colin
Yeah, it was cool. What the Costco guys smell like. Didn't notice. Didn't notice. Great, I'm sure. Italian, you know, tattoo talk. Somebody asked for tattoo talk. First tattoo, Favorite, most painful. First tattoo was a typo tattoo by Marina Inoue. Do you know what's the show?
Bo
What's so beautiful about us? Your first tattoo was a typo tattoo. My first tattoo was a Youth of Today tattoo. See, it's just.
Colin
We are who we are.
Bo
They ain't ain't no bullshit here, dude.
Colin
No. Favorite is prime, dude.
Bo
Same spot, same spot. It's such a. How old were you when you got it?
Colin
Not young. I was, like, 21.
Bo
My mom again. My mom rocks the gifts.
Colin
She's cool. Yeah.
Bo
She took me to get a tattoo when I was 16, so I was walking around as a junior. I got it for my birthday, which is in cold time, so, like, I didn't wear shorts, so I'd wear. Even for gym class, I'd wear sweatpants. So then when the only time I would wear shorts was gym class when it was hot out spring rolls around, I got a heel tattoo on my leg. Come on.
Colin
Guy like me, coolest kid in school.
Bo
Come on, pappy.
Colin
Yeah, I didn't do that. I didn't drive until the end of my senior year either.
Bo
What was it most painful?
Colin
Most painful was the back outline.
Bo
Yeah, sure.
Colin
Favorite is my back.
Bo
Sure. I would say, surprisingly, I have initials on my butt that everyone in Double Cross got DC on our butts. When the van broke up, really hurt.
Colin
Oh, the butt was the worst part of the outline.
Bo
Yeah, really hurt. My chest. The axes on my chest hurt. But the butt was. Is the first one that comes to mind. Honestly. My favorite is the one you, me and Brody with the fucking.
Colin
I love that one.
Bo
That one's awesome. It just looks.
Colin
I never get to see it, so when I do, I'm like, damn, that's there.
Bo
And what's funny is I most often see it on tv. You know, it's like, oh, shit. I have that. It's. It's so. That's fun.
Colin
That's true. Yeah, you're right. Yeah. I like, whenever I catch a glimpse of that. Which of one of you is most likely to fall for a cult?
Bo
For a cult? Colin, I love you.
Colin
No, there's no way you. There's no religion that could get me.
Bo
Yeah, but it's not. It wouldn't. You wouldn't fall for a religious cult. You would fall.
Colin
I would never fall for any cult.
Bo
You would fall for a lifestyle cult.
Colin
100%. No, I wouldn't. I don't trust anybody. Not even nobody.
Bo
You think I would?
Colin
I don't think he would, really.
Bo
You think we're both impervious to cults.
Colin
I am so deeply unreligious that I think anything that seemed like an organization in that regard in any way, I would not be involved.
Bo
But, like, there's tech cults, there's lifestyle cults, there's diet cults, there's music cults. There's other things.
Colin
Couldn't get me.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
Couldn't get me. You can try. If you're. If a cult. If you're listening, I think we could probably make one and do a pretty good job.
Bo
I think we pretty much have.
Colin
Yeah. So. So there's your answer.
Bo
Sign up for the Patreon.
Colin
See? Are you fans of Thin Lizzie?
Bo
I. Yes, I am a fan of Thin Lizzie, but. And Colin, you tried specifically to get me into. What was it? Something Rose.
Colin
Black.
Bo
Black Rose. Grimheart.
Colin
No. What is it? I don't know. It was Black Rose. Black Rose. It's the record that was like, Jordan Old showed me because I was like. I like. I like Jailbreak, you know?
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
I like the hits.
Bo
Totally.
Colin
Black Rose was the one that was like, oh, every riff is insane and every song's a banger.
Bo
So I need to revisit that because I. I remember being on a road trip one time and putting on, like, their greatest hits and being like, yes.
Colin
Now the. The Deep Cuts are the Magic.
Bo
Interesting.
Colin
Similar to your AVN Awards episode. Are there any other non musical conventions and gatherings you two are interested in attending?
Bo
I would do almost all because I think we could get something out of it. Yeah, I agree. Like even Nam, which I've heard is like a disaster. A disaster and like dry as hell. Yeah, we could get something out of it, you know.
Colin
Yeah, that would be fun. Any and all agreed.
Bo
Twitch Con.
Colin
Yeah. I think Comic Con would be Comic Con chaos. But we would. We would have a good time.
Bo
C2, E2, all that.
Colin
Yeah. What non hardcore band will you always be down to see live?
Bo
It's a great question.
Colin
There aren't many.
Bo
I would have said. Motorhead would have been my answer. Who would I just not say no about choir boy. I love choir boy. I saw them so many times.
Colin
I would love to see Morrissey. Never seen him.
Bo
That is crazy that he cancels every time. Every time. Nine Inch Nails. That would be my answer.
Colin
Great answer. Can we hope for any other God's hate shows in Europe next year besides Outbreak? Yes. Yes you can. If you had to have a third permanent member of the show, who would it be? Probably Alec or Taylor.
Bo
Taylor as like Alec is a good choice because there's still this energy.
Colin
Taylor's dryness is just very different than ours.
Bo
But Taylor being the. The guy kind of in the booth that the camera cuts to occasionally is. There's something there. There's a magic there for sure.
Colin
That would be the dream.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
2025 is the 10 year anniversaries of rust and disharmony and the 15th anniversary of no Gods. Do we have anything special planned?
Bo
Holy shit.
Colin
That's fucked up.
Bo
I'll say yes, but there's not a whole lot I could talk about.
Colin
I would say in a perfect world, yeah. But probably not. I think an album playthrough of disharmony would be improbable. Be so hard.
Bo
It's a crazy record.
Colin
Yeah, it's fucked up. Thoughts on the new Hive is record guided tour. Fantastic. We will talk about it at length in the Hard Lore Awards. A zombie outbreak has been announced.
Bo
Love it.
Colin
What do you guys do in the first 72 hours if you were together?
Bo
If we're together. Let's. Let's pick.
Colin
I would ask you in the first. What?
Bo
Let's pick where we are.
Colin
I'm gonna go ahead and say it doesn't matter where we are. 30 minutes into a zombie outbreak if my dogs and wife are dead. I'm asking you to shoot me in the head.
Bo
I won't have a gun if we're not here.
Colin
No, no, we're fine.
Bo
We'll find a gun. Okay.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
All right.
Colin
Or just fucking do something, you know?
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
I need you to kill me.
Bo
I can't.
Colin
I do not need to live that bad.
Bo
Okay, So I have a dash of, like, Doomer prepper in me where I, like, once every season, I'll like, freak myself out and go too far down a rabbit hole and be like, blackout's coming. What am I going to do? You know?
Colin
And you think that you are. You're more less likely to fall for a cult than me.
Bo
Listen, I don't have blackouts coming. I don't have a bunker. You live in a place where blackouts happen.
Colin
And yet I'm not concerned.
Bo
Yeah, because you're. You're ready to die. My.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
My whole goal, though, is to be alive long enough to get my mom out. So, like, I do have some food here. I do have some water, I have weapons, whatever, to get out of the city. But if mom's dead, if. If Taylor's dead, whatever, much like you, I'm out. No problem.
Colin
I'm all good. So, yeah, I'm done.
Bo
It just kind of depends on where we are, but I think getting out of a city is the first thing. And you and I are so.
Colin
It's not happening.
Bo
I don't have a car and you have an electric car.
Colin
Yeah, I'm that dying. Day one. Let's see what's on Yalls workout playlist. Right now I've only been listening to the best guest vocals playlist.
Bo
It's actually true that and the Moody playlist on. On Spotify. Check it out.
Colin
Right? What game show or reality show could you win? Big Brother?
Bo
You think you. You could win hundred percent. You think like, cuz, like, I don't know the show that well, but you've described it to me like you think you would, like, fuck people over and stuff.
Colin
I'm good at wolves and mafia, and that's what the social aspect of the game is, right? Someone. It's lying to ascend in the hierarchy. And then physically, I've already been testing the competitions for years, and I was really good at them. And now I'm much stronger than I was then. So even though, like, endurance ones, I think so I think I would be better at Jeopardy. And it's been seven years since I worked for the show, so I think legally I can.
Bo
Oh, interesting. Put me on Jeopardy. I think I could do good.
Colin
Like regular Jeopardy.
Bo
Regular Jeopardy's definitely harder And I probably wouldn't do as good as many people now.
Colin
Teen jeopardy. I'm wiping the floor with these snot nose.
Bo
That'd be awesome.
Colin
I'm the best teen or what's that?
Bo
Are you smarter than a fifth grader? Yes, I am.
Colin
100.
Bo
Put me in. I got that one.
Colin
And I could. I could whoop them all. Are shrimp. In fact bugs.
Bo
Of course the crustaceans, which is the type of station. And I, I, as somebody who loves seafood, I do sometimes get creeped out by lobsters. Crawfish freak me out. Shrimp are kind of crawfish. So there is part of it where I like, I can't think about it. Soft shell crab. That's gross, dude. That's gross.
Colin
I love it. Somebody said, what's your favorite slang for penis?
Bo
Hammer. Hammer.
Colin
Hammer is amazing. My favorite thing related to that is crack one.
Bo
Oh yeah? Yeah. I gotta crack.
Colin
Cracking a nut. Dude. I gotta go crack one. Amazing.
Bo
Open air.
Colin
Open air is unbelievable. Genius. As music people who also enjoy movies. What music movie gets music the best and what gets it the worst?
Bo
Green room's pretty good.
Colin
Green room's pretty good.
Bo
Probably the best. I think we've said that it was the best.
Colin
We did. Yeah. The worst.
Bo
Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg.
Colin
Oh, yeah. That's pretty bad.
Bo
That's pretty bad.
Colin
Musically, great movie. Great movie.
Bo
But musically it's like the, the.
Colin
The in trap. The amount of times people are just walking around the venue during this the headliners set is insane.
Bo
Like lots of people, like as if.
Colin
The biggest pop star in the world is playing an intimate arena show. And there's always people out, like in the bathroom and like at the merch tables and. And the merch guy being like, hey, come with me in the back and help me restock. Is fucking insane.
Bo
Okay. Okay.
Colin
So it's probably a trap. Let's see. What I'm always curious, what's the reason for you guys not liking melodic hardcore?
Bo
It does.
Colin
It's very simple.
Bo
It sucks. Next question.
Colin
I think it. I think its existence is oxymoronic, you know?
Bo
Right.
Colin
I don't think melody in hardcore is bad. I think hardcore with the sole purpose of melody with nothing hard about it is pointless music.
Bo
Perfect.
Colin
It's not why I listen to Harcourt.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
It's like Christian death metal.
Bo
Exactly.
Colin
It can't be that.
Bo
That's a really good way to put it. That's a really good way to put it.
Colin
Thank you.
Bo
It's like honestly, right? Leaning country music.
Colin
Oh my God.
Bo
Doesn't. Or like Folk music in any way. It's like. Wait a. No.
Colin
This is rebellious music against the. The norm. You know, the man against the. Yeah, the man. And the man will always be conservative. I know you're a Kojima fan. What's your favorite Metal Gear game? Metal gear solid three.
Bo
Really? What system was that?
Colin
Yeah, that was PS2. I think you would love three.
Bo
I've heard. I've heard. I have a.
Colin
It's coming out again.
Bo
Really?
Colin
Yeah. They remade it for PS5, obviously. Yeah.
Bo
Sick. I would try it then. I would try that.
Colin
You're gonna love it. I think it's 60s.
Bo
Hell yeah.
Colin
I think you're gonna like it.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
It's the best one. Most underrated hardcore band.
Bo
Most underrated hardcore band.
Colin
Like the most.
Bo
There's an argument for underdog, ironically.
Colin
The most underrated.
Bo
Like who?
Colin
Here's the thing. The fact that Agnostic Front isn't outlaw. Isn't headlining things like Outbreak Festival is. Is the answer.
Bo
Interesting.
Colin
Like they're. They're so much of the reason that we're sitting here talking right now and why some of your favorite bands exist. And yeah, they're playing open air fests in Germany and Spain and shit. But like, they should be at the top of the modern hardcore lexicon at all times.
Bo
It really is them. And negative approach.
Colin
Yeah. Those two should be the talk of the town to everyone in the world. Always.
Bo
Good answer, that. I. That's a different approach to how I was taking it. But I like that one better.
Colin
They're. They. Even as big as they are and as successful they are, it's not enough Mount Rushmore hardcore bands outside the United States.
Bo
That's a good one.
Colin
Kickback. World Collapse. Judgment. And probably no Warning.
Bo
Really Good call. All right. I'll say. No Warning. High vis. Chisel. Main Strike.
Colin
Okay. There you go.
Bo
Oh, fuck. Rise and Fall.
Colin
What's up with the vibe between songs? And hardcore shows always feels awkward and quiet. It's about the music, brother.
Bo
That's you. That's you. Probably.
Colin
Yeah. That's. Don't worry you. That's called adhd. You talk to me about it anytime.
Bo
But that is also the reason why there are no quiet moments in between Harm's Way songs. Because.
Colin
Right. That dude running full speed. Who has the most inertia? Beau or Colin?
Bo
You. You have your bigger frame, I think.
Colin
I think you weigh more now.
Bo
How much do you weigh? What are you pulling?
Colin
I'm at like 190 right now.
Bo
I'm about. I'm a little more. Yeah.
Colin
Okay. So never Know, I might be fast.
Bo
I think I got longer legs. You got longer.
Colin
I got really long.
Bo
So I think. I think by that alone, it's probably you.
Colin
I would love to race you, dude.
Bo
I. I don't have speed. I really don't. I will. I'll try, but I really don't have it.
Colin
I think that would be so fun.
Bo
Should we do, like a hard lore, like.
Colin
Dude, feel the big race.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
The big race. Sure, sure. We got to do the big race in fy. Holy shit. This is incredible. The big race is Tampa, Florida.
Bo
Orlando, Florida.
Colin
Orlando, Florida. The hard lore. Big race. Can't wait. Favorite game that nobody thinks you would be playing.
Bo
Favorite game?
Colin
Yeah. My wife briefly got me into Dress to Impress.
Bo
Oh, yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Colin
It's pretty fun.
Bo
I mean, I did enjoy Fortnite while I was playing it.
Colin
It's the best game of all time.
Bo
But, like, after being pretty vocally not into it, I was enjoying it. So I could say that.
Colin
I mean, you play this season.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
Maybe you're going to be like, yeah. This is insane. Godzilla is doing the gritty. It's insane. What is an unpopular opinion you guys hold but as a hill you are willing to die on? I don't. I'm so sick of corn off the cob in any meal. I don't think it contributes anything positive to the thing I'm eating, whether it's a fucking burrito bowl or ramen.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
Or for some reason, some breakfast things have corn in them. I think corn is fucking bullshit. Keep it on the cob. It's mid. It's. You don't digest it. It tastes like. Butter is great. Obviously Mexican corn rips because it's just covered in other stuff, but once it's off the cob, I don't trust it. I don't need it. I'm sick of it.
Bo
Interesting. I would say it's also food related. Is. Is a la canes. If a sauce is required to make your meal, then your meal is bullshit. It's a vessel for sauce. That's a. That's just boring.
Colin
No, that's. But. But you are. What you're saying is, like, I know you're. It's an unpopular opinion that you are willing to die on. So you recognize that it's unpopular, but, like the foundation of food. I'm not gonna argue with you because I just said corn is bullshit. We're both wrong. And it's fine, you know?
Bo
Yeah. Yeah. I'm just.
Colin
Sauce is there to improve what you're eating.
Bo
But if it's a. I'm not gonna start.
Colin
I'm not gonna start.
Bo
If Cane's is a two ingredient meal, like two things and you take away one thing and then it's, it's just like.
Colin
Well, it's. But it's not. But the elements are made to be enjoyed together.
Bo
If you take red pepper or toppings or parmesan cheese away from pizza, the pizza is still good. It's pizza.
Colin
If you take the cheese off, it's not the same.
Bo
But that's, that's like saying if you take the breading off the chicken. No, no, no.
Colin
Okay, well if you take the sauce off, what is it? It's cheesy bread.
Bo
But the, but the item is made with sauce. So like a chicken tender is chicken egg, egg wash.
Colin
But the canes one is recommended to eat with the sauce.
Bo
Yeah, but maybe you know the, what.
Colin
Came first, the pizza or the egg? You know the egg.
Bo
Pretty definitively.
Colin
Yeah, yeah. But here it's unpopular for a reason. I get it. I, I'm, I, I, I hear you. But the like every, every five star restaurant has a saucier whose whole job is to include a sauce that makes the food better.
Bo
Right. But I'm sure the food on its own would still be outstanding.
Colin
Probably. But that's why it's $1,000 and Cane's isn't. Is 8.99 and delivers to me now. So my, my life is so much better. Cane Top five cranberry songs.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
Electric Blue Salvation, Hollywood Bosnia. Insane song. Dude. They're just like Bosnia. We're so fucking sorry.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
And they should be, you know.
Bo
Yes.
Colin
And probably just dreams.
Bo
Yeah. I mean dream. The hits are the hits. But like there's moments in, in linger. The harmony on fool for you.
Colin
Perfect song.
Bo
It's crazy. I would 1000% that say that Salvation is my favorite song. So I'm glad that you picked that one. That's it.
Colin
Of course.
Bo
Crazy track.
Colin
What? One of the greatest bands of all time. S tier. We put them in greatest of all time. Right in the, in the ranking every rock band observer. Every single one that you can go back and listen to now. Foreign. Let's see. Let's. Let's. We're winding down now. We've got just a couple left. Was meeting each other like love at first sight or was it an enemies to lovers story?
Bo
We got along immediately.
Colin
I think it was famously right off the bat.
Bo
It was right off the bat because we, we had no choice. Nobody could be enemies in the van that Is true.
Colin
And you had already toured with Taylor.
Bo
Right? And you.
Colin
And like, I. I was already a fan of the band.
Bo
Yeah. Like, we knew each other. You, like, knew of each other. You know what I mean?
Colin
So we knew of each other. I got your vibe right off the bat and it was like, I think I'm gonna get along with this.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah. That was us. Now that was easy.
Colin
11 years later.
Bo
Good God.
Colin
Last call for a possible Rise of the North Star interview says M. Photos. Give it.
Bo
Hey, Evan.
Colin
Evan. It's never happening, mate. No, it's never happened. What am I saying? It's never happening. Evan. God damn it. Do you recall any bands you thought would be huge but just never broke out of your local scenes? Happens to some of the best.
Bo
Oh, that's an interesting question. There was a band from Detroit called Fireworks. Who was.
Colin
They did it. They kind of did it. They kind of could have been bigger.
Bo
And they could have been bigger. That's exactly right. Whereas, like, when that one record came out, everyone was like, oh, well, they're gonna. They're gonna be huge. They're gonna be right. They're gonna be the story so far, you know, like, they're gonna be it.
Colin
Yeah. An LA band.
Bo
It's gotta be dozens.
Colin
Yeah. There's so many. That's like the band our. And this is in LA. This is 805, our local equivalent to a band like Strength for reason.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Like a. There's like a regional band that can kill. Is Retaliate.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
From Oxnard.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Multiple Timeless Records that I love so much. Hilarious lyrics sometimes, but like great songs. Zach Nelson, host of 185 Miles south podcast. Incredible frontman. He was also an in control.
Bo
Oh, sick.
Colin
The certified 805 legend. Retaliate kind of is that band that if they were maybe younger and no offense to them at all when Retaliate started and if they were like a touring thing, I think they could have done it all.
Bo
Totally.
Colin
They're the ones that had the lyric, mad Ball ain't your favorite band. I hate you. Like the Taliban.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
Yeah. That'll get you. This is a good question. This is a good last question, I think.
Bo
Okay.
Colin
Most important album, obviously, y'all found this when you were younger, but what album did you listen to? Say before 15 years old. Ish. That you heard front to back and thought, this is what I've needed. I've got a couple and they'll all make sense.
Bo
I think I do two. Because. Okay, I. I need to reiterate. I didn't have Like a metal phase. I loved Metallica, but when I discovered punk rock, it wasn't like. It wasn't okay to be outwardly like a metalhead, you know, it was like. That was like a thing still silly, right? So then when I found hardcore, that. That was all the same. So I very. I could very easily say Bad Brains, Rock For Light had production that I wanted, songs that I wanted, and, like, a little bit of melody. It made sense.
Colin
Yeah.
Bo
And then Chromax, the Age of Quarrel was really, really important.
Colin
That's like, oh, this is the best version of hardcore.
Bo
Yeah. And. And I couldn't have gotten it at a better time.
Colin
Yeah. Same. That was number one on my last FM that year, for sure. Most important for me, Life of Agony, River Owns Red.
Bo
Wow.
Colin
I would say I was. I was. I got into. I found hardcore at 5 years old. So I obviously have a very different story than everybody else, but River Runs Red came to me, you know, several years later, and it was like the foundations of all the stuff I already liked. That was like. It was heavy, it was aggressive, fast at times, but the. It had the melody that the theater kid in me was. Was. Was dying for. And the lyrical content of, like, oh, this is something I can actually relate to totally.
Bo
That makes.
Colin
They're not talking about, you know, murder on the streets and stuff. It's like, I want to kill myself.
Bo
Yeah. Wow.
Colin
So as a little kid that wanted to kill himself, it's like, this is the. This is the perfect thing. Hate Satisfaction, of course. You know, Kid from Connecticut, here's a band from Connecticut is the best one.
Bo
And then they're like, pop. Like, they're. They're the.
Colin
The best one.
Bo
Yeah, they're the best.
Colin
And then I find out that they're 20 minutes away.
Bo
Yeah. Yeah.
Colin
And now I'm playing in the band with a guy so sick, you know.
Bo
Yeah.
Colin
Best thing ever. And typo slowed. Even hard. Favorite band to this day, completely defined everything I, like, changed the trajectory of my musical career in life.
Bo
I think if I had to choose a third, it would be background music by American Nightmare.
Colin
I could see it.
Bo
Which is not a band that I. I listen to too much anymore. At the time, they were so catalytic and so important to connecting me to everything else.
Colin
Totally.
Bo
He sounded so scary and everything was so fast and raw that I was like, oh, if they're playing with this band, I gotta like that band. And sure enough.
Colin
And also seeing them physically.
Bo
Yeah. Was like, out of control.
Colin
Swag, dude.
Bo
It was like a mystery. It was like, what is this haircut and like a track jacket and.
Colin
And why is the bass player the best dressed guy I've ever seen in my whole life?
Bo
Yeah, it was so. And he had a Morrissey quote on the back of his bass, but like the opposite. It was just like all this stuff where I was like, whoa. Like that connected a lot of dots for me. So I think those would be my three.
Colin
Hell of a. Hell of a few picks there. Thank you all so much for joining us. This has been our. Our, our final kind of Q and A of the year. We've had a great time, long one, but hopefully it was a good one. Thank you all for so much for joining us. The big race is coming up in Orlando, Florida at fya. I can't wait for the big race. I'll be practicing here. I hope ou will be too because this is. This decides a lot.
Bo
This is it.
Colin
The loser joins a cult. Thank you all for watching. We love you so much. Bye.
