If your size has been all over the place lately, maybe nothing seems to fit quite right. Your jeans feel different from week to week, and getting dressed has turned into this emotional rollercoaster. First, I want you to take a deep breath. You don't need to overhaul your wardrobe every few months or wait until your body stabilizes to start feeling good again. The real reason you're frustrated isn't that your size keeps changing. It's that your closet isn't set up for it. It's not built to support the natural ups and downs that every woman's body goes through. So today, I want to help you shift the way you think about your clothes, your body, and your confidence so that no matter what's happening with your shape or the scale, you can still feel pulled together and at peace when you get dressed. Because the goal isn't to chase a size. It's to build a closet that meets you right where you are and makes you feel amazing every day, no matter what. Welcome to Her Style podcast, where we're all about empowering you to show up and get dressed every day with confidence. I'm your host, Heather Riggs, a 15 year and counting certified image consultant and color specialist, ready to build a wardrobe and a personal style you love. Let's get started. All right. You know that moment when you go to get dressed? Maybe it's for date night or you're just running errands for the day and you pull something out and you try it on and it's suddenly not the same. It feels tight in weird places or it hangs differently than it used to and instantly your mood drops. You start scanning the rest of your closet, hoping something feels like you again. But everything on the hanger is either too small, too big, or just a reminder of a version of yourself you don't quite recognize anym. And you stand there thinking, I have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. And the truth is that what's really weighing you down isn't your clothes. It's the story they're telling you. And you might not say it out loud, but there's this quiet dialogue happening in your head every time you look at your clothes. The jeans that you had from before you had kids, they suddenly make you think, I should have been back in those jeans by now. What am I doing wrong? The flowy tops that you bought to hide your body just remind you that you're still waiting to feel like the most confident version of yourself. And the things that technically fit but don't feel like you leave you wondering what happened to my style? Why am I struggling so much to get dressed and put a cute outfit together? And I will tell you, it's not just about the clothes. It's what those clothes represent. Every piece in your closet holds a story, and some of those stories just need to be rewritten. And so with this episode, I want to peel this back, and I want to start by sharing a few patterns that I see come up again and again, and that will start to work against you when your body is in flux, which inevitably it will be, because we're women, we have hormones, all of these things happening. Our weight is not going to be a steady constant every single day. And so the first problem that I see is that you're trying to dress a body that doesn't exist anymore. I know that one stings a little bit because deep down, part of you is still hoping that you are going to slip back into those clothes soon. But in the meantime, they just are sitting there taunting you and taking up space and keeping you stuck in this weird in between. You might even avoid buying new clothes because you don't want to settle. You keep thinking, okay, once I get back into that size, then I'll invest in pieces that I love. But you can't feel confident in clothes that belong to someone you used to be. You need to dress for the woman that you are today. So I want to ask you, what version of you is your closet currently supporting? Is it the woman that you used to be, the one that you're hoping to become one day down the road eventually? Or is it the one that's standing right here today? Now, this is not about giving up on goals. It's not about letting yourself go. It's about honoring who you are in this moment, showing up for you today, dressing like the best version of the beautiful you that you are right now, and of course, having goals and working towards the future and all of those things, but not sacrificing one for the other. When you start dressing for the body that you have today, you're also going to start showing up as her. You're going to start treating yourself like someone worth showing up for. Not once I lose 10 pounds, but right now. You're going to start showing up as the very best version of yourself today. And that is going to make the journey so much more enjoyable. Now, the second problem is that you've let a number decide how you feel about yourself. You look at a size label and your heart sinks instantly. You're comparing it to what it used to say again, going back to living as that past version of yourself, or what you wish it did, thinking about the future you, instead of just enjoying and appreciating where you are right now. Because the number on the clothes, the size is basically meaningless. I've talked about this before as well. Sizing isn't standardized. You could be a 6 in one store, a 10 in another, and maybe the same size in one store, because there's really not even consistency within brands themselves. And all of this is within the exact same body. That little tag can really start to dictate whether you feel confident or defeated. And the truth that I want you to hold onto is that the size on your clothing tag has zero power unless you give it some. What actually matters is how your clothes make you feel when you put them on. I want you to just instead start to ask yourself, does this outfit make me stand taller? Do I smile when I catch myself in the mirror wearing this piece? Do I feel like I can walk into my day without tugging, adjusting, or hiding behind bulky layers? That is what real style confidence feels like. And I think that's available to you at every single size. So if you've been holding on to smaller clothes, hoping that they'll motivate you, I get it. Sometimes it's worth holding onto those pieces that you truly love. Give yourself a date to go back in and check on your progress. But more often or not, those pieces don't motivate you. They just make you feel defeated. I don't think that you need a lot of inspiration hanging in your closet that makes you feel behind on your goals. Instead, you need clothes that tell you you're beautiful today, pieces that fit comfortably, that reflect your personality, and that remind you you're still allowed to show up and look good even while your body is shifting. That is what creates confidence. Not the number on the tag, but how you feel when you look in the mirror. And the third problem that I see often is that your closet isn't built for your real life. We're told to build these curated capsule wardrobes and plan every outfit perfectly and have the littlest number of pieces possible. But nobody teaches us what to do when our size fluctuates, and it more than likely will. So we end up with this very rigid, perfectly planned wardrobe that's just one size. It's one version of us, and it's one narrow window of fit. And the moment life happens, you end up in postpartum, or you put on a little bit of stress weight, your hormones are fluctuating the normal ebbs and flows of life, we start to feel like everything falls apart. Our wardrobe suddenly does not work at all, and we start to make ourselves the problem. But it's not that it is not you. It's not your body. It's the way that your wardrobe is set up. So I think you can create a wardrobe that moves with you. Maybe you do want to have a couple of different size jeans so that whether you have a little bit of bloating one day, you still have an option that makes you feel fabulous. It could be having different layering pieces that will adjust with your shape, and maybe some stretch fabrics that still look really polished, but give you a little bit of wiggle room and items that make you feel confident whether you're up or down a few pounds. It's building out a cohesive wardrobe that is strategic, that does mix and match with easy ease, but also supports you in those different seasons of your life. And most importantly, you need a mindset and a strategy that supports you through those shifts, not just in the still moments when everything's perfect and rosy and peachy. Because your wardrobe isn't meant to be a museum of who you were. It's supposed to be a living reflection of who you are and who you are becoming. So here's what I would challenge you to ask yourself the next time you're standing in front of your closet. If your clothes could talk, would they tell the story of a woman evolving or a woman waiting for permission to feel good again? You don't need to fix your body. You just need to learn how to make your clothes work for you. And here's what I want you to notice as well. Nothing we've talked about today requires you to change your body. Every shift we made was about seeing yourself in your wardrobe through a new lens. And that is the kind of clarity that changes everything. Everything. Because once you start seeing your closet differently, it's a lot easier to make confident, intentional choices moving forward. And that is exactly how you start dressing. When your size keeps changing. You create a wardrobe that's built on strategy, not stability. One that flexes with your body, your lifestyle, and your season of life. You're going to focus on fit over size, versatility over volume, and confidence over comparison. Those are the pillars of the process that we follow inside Her Style Collective, the framework that helps you build a wardrobe that always works for you, no matter what your body's doing. So if you're ready to take these mindset shifts and turn them into a simple repeatable system that makes getting dressed feel easy again. That's what we do together inside the Collective. "Fit-Proof Your Closet: How to Dress When Your Size Keeps Changing"
Host: Heather Riggs, Stylist, Image Consultant & Color Analyst
Date: November 17, 2025
Heather Riggs dives deep into the emotional and practical challenges faced by women whose sizes are fluctuating. She reframes dressing and closet-building as acts of self-care rooted in self-acceptance—shifting the focus from chasing a number on a clothing tag to constructing a flexible, confidence-boosting wardrobe that moves with you through life's changes.

On Letting Go:
"If your clothes could talk, would they tell the story of a woman evolving, or a woman waiting for permission to feel good again?" — Heather Riggs (15:14)
On the End Goal:
"It's a random Tuesday morning, you're getting dressed and every single piece in your closet actually fits... That is truly what a fit proof wardrobe feels like. That's what happens when your style stops depending on your size and starts reflecting you and exactly where you are today." — Heather Riggs (21:10)
Heather’s approach is as much about mindset and self-compassion as it is about wardrobe planning. A “fit-proof” closet isn’t just about having clothes for every occasion—it’s about rewriting the story your wardrobe tells about you. When you stop waiting for the “right size” and start honoring yourself where you are, your clothes become a source of confidence, not stress.
