Well, I am at Kenny Schrader's friend's place. Glenn Stiers. I'm up here at the land of Kenny Schrader. I'm waiting for you to get here, Kenny.

We'll be up, we'll be up tomorrow. We got. We're going race Wednesday night. But Glenn has at Ashweak and Speedway, his track there. He has a two day world of Outlaw sprint car race and late miles are running his companion eventually first day and we're running our UMP mods the second day as a companion event. So really looking forward to it. I get to go up there two or three times a year, usually a lot of fun. Beautiful racetrack.

[Herman Schrader]

I landed here late last night. My friend John Scatoni, he's got that SR22 plane. We were so lucky. We left Wilkesboro after, you know, after driver's introduction, and when we got to Niagara Falls International Airport, as long as we were above 3,500ft, we circled two times around Niagara Falls. And you talk about a thrill. So that was really awesome. Well, we're gonna get started here, everybody. We got a little different dynamic. But before we get going, Kenny, buddy, what a win on Saturday night. I. I hear from my friends, Joe Rudy says you kicked his ass on the last lap.

[Kenny Schrader]

No, they just. We just got there first. We, we weren't quite. Joe Joe was better, but he had a little problem last lap, kind of shoved up and we had a good run, so it just worked out.

[Herman Schrader]

But good win, Kenny.

[Kenny Schrader]

It's a little bitty race.

[Herman Schrader]

Well, I, I agree with you. Indeed. I, I tease Schrader, you know, I listen. Every race is a big race for, for other people, you know what I mean? But I always tell all my friends when they get all worked up, I said, one thing I've learned about this, you can go right around the corner to the gas station and they don't even know we're racing. So it's big to us in all the locals, you know, outrunning Kenny Schrader is literally a lifelong dream for a lot of these locals. So Schrader snaps one away. Yep.

Let me ask you a question, both y', all, and it could be quick. It don't have to be long. But for each of you guys biggest NASCAR win and biggest win outside nascar, what would you say?

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah, I, I would say my biggest win outside of NASCAR would probably be. Be a mix of Volusia and Eldora. You know, we, we go to Eldora and there Kenny can tell you more about it. The nationals, you get like 130 cars and I think they had four or six features and, you know, I mean, probably those two tracks, I don't.

[Kenny Schrader]

They're just, hey, when you leave Victory Lane, they're over. You got to worry about the next one. They're just, they're the same. I don't know. It's never like, I want a big one, so it don't make any difference, you know, but they're just, you just worry about your next one. That's all.

[Herman Schrader]

My, my biggest nasty. First of all, I was never as good as Kenny Schrader. Let's make that clear. Kenny's 1, 1, 1. Some cup races. My biggest win would probably be one of my Xfinity wins was a night race at Richmond and I looked in my mirror on the last caution. I had Dale Earnhardt Senior and I saw, I saw his bubble goggles and, and Mark Martin. So that, yeah, so one of my Xfinity wins, which was like I said, O'Reilly now, but okay, we're rolling on, everybody. We're going to start the show. And just my disclaimer, I'm up here in Canada with no printer, and we always do the show off of the notes that I make. I was able to email the notes to Deets. Has the notes. Indeed. We're going to have fun today. You're going to run the show, buddy. So take, take it away.

Well, I've had a little practice with the, with Trader and Rick Mass, so it's going all right. But. So let's start. Obviously, Joey Logano getting when he, he needed that win very badly, especially trying to get into the, into the Chase now. I think it moved him up to 15th in points, but we'll start with Juice Raider. I mean, that's, that's a big way to get back into Victory Lane to dominate a race like that. And, and sometimes, for whatever reason, you just got racetracks that, that suit you. And it seems like through the All Star races and, and now in this points race that, that North Wilkesboro has suited Joey Logano for whatever reason.

[Kenny Schrader]

Well, that was, that was a very, very dominant performance yesterday. That car just, you know, the car and him and the crew, they just did everything right. Like they have, you know, like you said, they, they've run so good. And the All Star races up there, he's Led so many laps up there since that track was put back on, back in service for the cup series. And yesterday they just proved what kind of team they are. I mean, they've had. They've had a rough year. It's not because they're falling apart or nothing. They just went through a rough. Rough patch, and something like that could really make them dangerous as far as getting on a. Getting on a terror now.

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah, I think. I think back to, you know, Kenny and myself, there's tracks that, you know, every race car driver feels like they're good everywhere. You know, every race car driver wants to be good everywhere. But the fact of the matter is, every race car has that. Every race car driver has that track that they excel at. You know, after the race, Joey said, I understand this track. And he's able to tell his crew chief, Paul Wolf, exactly what he needs. And Joey, I'm sure you all listen to it, too, or I saw it on social media. So, you know, I'm like Kenny, but I just, you know, I heard Joey say that, and I think that's key, telling your crew chief exactly what you need. So he's got it going on there, and he knows what he needs at that track.

That. So that last pit stop, Joey, after the race, said that basically they knew that whoever got out of the pits first here, or Hamlin, or whoever won that race out of the pits was going to win that race. And I think Hamlin pitted maybe a lap before Joey, and then Joey came out about two car lengths ahead of him. But you could really tell that both of those guys and both of those teams realized that the way they race, you know, those five or ten laps after that, that green flag stop.

Yeah, it's, you know, and I'm assuming that's the. The clean air thing, which amazes me because, you know, it's not like it's that fast a racetrack. I guess it's that important at all the racetracks, but, you know, it's watching. I watched with about 15 to go, and Denny kind of closed in on him. And then. And then when Joey cleared some cars, he got her back out again. So it just makes a difference how your car is handling compared to the other car. But there must be a whole lot to that clean air.

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah, Kenny. I also heard after the race, they asked Denny Hamlin, they said, denny, if you could have had a quicker pit stop and you could have got a out ahead of Joey, could you have held him off? And Denny Hamlin, he kind of heed and hawed he said there would have been contact. So I think that says it all. And Danny said, look, you know, Joey was exceptional. And I think that's the key takeaway here. Joey Logano was exceptional. He was the class of the field. And I think what impressed me, guys is that Joey was able to be exceptional. All night long. He led 323 laps of 450. That's hard to do.

And I, you know, the other thing that kind of took, I don't want to say took me by surprise because you know, Joey and Danny are older drivers in the sport now and you know, have grown up a lot. But Danny made a point of going over there and congratulate enjoy after the race. And I know for you to, you probably understand where he's coming from because you can appreciate when somebody has a dominant car like that and to go out and have a good hard race with them and appreciate that.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah. And Joey, Joey, Danny knew that he was good, but the Joey was a little better. You know, so it's not like you get, you get beat but you don't think you were that good. And you know, then you think, well, I just wasn't that good. But Denny was pretty good. Joey was just better.

[Herman Schrader]

I'll take the psychological standpoint. I know where you're going. Deets. I think both of them have seen the movie now. They are statesmen, they're veterans. You know, Denny says he's going to race one more year. You know, Joey's a three time champion. Denny's won 65 races. And when you get a little bit older, you know, you're like, okay, you know, and so I understand where you're coming from. And I was surprised too that Denny Hamlin went almost over the wall to shake Joey Logano's hand. And that's age. There's, that's just age. That's all there is to that. Well, let me ask you guys, because you, you raced at North Wilkesboro and there's been, you know, there's been some people that have talked, oh, you know, there weren't 15 cautions and there wasn't a lot of action and, and this and that. And I know Schrader, you, you said, you know, you didn't race all over the racetrack like those guys did last night. But, you know, I, you know, you can go back and watch races. You guys weren't locked down on the bottom. I mean, you, you kind of took, you know, wide breads into the corner and things like that where you weren't stuck right down there on the bottom. But again, for the younger fans that don't know, that was what I remember about North Wilkesboro. I remember long green flag runs and I remember a lot of lap traffic, and that's what we saw last night.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah, but you're right. We weren't locked down on the bottom, but we were down in that bottom 20ft or so. We weren't never worried about hitting the wall, scraping the wall because you got too close to the wall. You worry about hitting the wall, but that's because you messed up and you ran in damn thing. These guys are up there running, you know, in the middle of the turn. They're up there close to it and stuff. So whatever, if that's good year, if, if that's the surface. I mean, it's a combination, but it's working. That's why I was, I asked you when we first started about what this, the survey said for the. How much they like to race because there wasn't that physical contact. There was no big wrecks, but they were racing their ass off all the time. That's something like, would aggravate me about Bristol sometimes. Everybody's like, boy, that old Bristol at least have some great races. Well, there was formation driving until someone hit somebody, you know, and now they're, now they run three wide, but the racing's no good. So, you know, that was great racing yesterday as far as all over the racetrack. If you came up on two cars, you still had some place to go, you know, I mean, it was just, I thought it was a fantastic show. But how about our survey?

[Herman Schrader]

Over 6,000 people before we started the show, by Jeff Gluck? 71% of the people like the race, and that's a win. So my takeaway is this, guys, be careful what you Wish for. Because our crowd for 20 years, for the last 20 years have been crying. We want the old days back. Last night's race or, you know, Sunday night's race, that was the old days. That's the way it was. And that was typical old day racing. I mean, in every aspect. I mean that was, you know, and I'm going to say this, Kenny, I'm gonna. I wanted to hear you say something about this and deet. Same thing. Did it amaze you that it was just like the old days? I figured this. But it was better like you said, Kenny, because the next gen car. Well, for example, the first stage, Ty Gibbs passes SVG on the outside in turn three and four. We didn't do that in the old days. So like you said, Kenny, the groove was way better in my, in this era. But I mean, it was through and through. It was old day racing.

Yeah, I, I think most all of our races have been all day racing better. Hey, you can only change this stuff so much. It's just a bunch of us idiots going around circles, you know, I mean, you can only, you know, it's not like we're going to switch and run the other direction or nothing. We just, that's what we did in the old days, go around circles. That's what we're still doing. It's just better, it's more competitive. But it did hit me last night when I turned on TV. We never ran 450 laps there, did we? We always ran 400.

400. Yeah. I don't know what that's about. Dietz, what's 450 about?

You know, the only thing that I can figure is that maybe, maybe NASCAR figured that, you know, you can sort of say, okay, if we make this race a certain number of layups or if we make the, the stages a certain number of laps, the teams are going to be able to figure that they can run all the way to the end of the stage. And maybe this sort of forced the teams into saying, well, you're not going to make a fuel run. You're going to have to, you're going to have to pit. And that to me is, that's what I was thinking is why they added the extra 50 layups to it.

[Kenny Schrader]

That could, that could be easy because they, they tend to think all that stuff out. They do a good job.

Wallace, you were, you were there. So we've. I want to go back, I want to talk about this race specifically, but kind of talk about how, how the track came back. So the last Time I was there for a race was 20, 22, and they had the racetrack revival, so they come back in 23 with the all Star race. So we've had a few All Star races there. Now, before this points race, what was the. I didn't get the feeling, at least from what I was seeing, that, that people are like, okay, it's back now. We're used to it. I mean, what was the vibe like? It looked like it was the first race they ever had there from the excitement standpoint.

[Herman Schrader]

That is a great question, and here's why. It's a great question, because like you said, we've already ran there the last two years. This points race on Sunday night, it was like it was the first time back to Wilkesboro. It was really a mind boggling experience for me because I'm looking around and I'm like, we've been running here for two years. But the people didn't count. Those All Star races, those All Star races, in those people's minds, it didn't matter to them. It was that this was real, it was a points race. And, and I know it's, it's all in the mind, but that was a good question because that's the first thing I noticed, is they act like, okay, now NASCAR's really back and that's the way everybody was, and man, they were jacked up. I, I, you know, we did the trackside live show downtown on Saturday night, and then we did it on Sunday. Met a couple people that were saying, kenny, you know, my dad wanted to choose a race to go to, and we chose this one because my dad watched all the old races. And I swear that's exactly what somebody said to me. So there, there was this family vibe. Like my dad used to come here now he brought me, so that's what I felt.

[Kenny Schrader]

There's a lot of tracks, you know, you can do that with. I mean, how many tracks have been around forever on the Cup Series? You know, I mean, there's, there's ones that we've have went to, they've obviously upgraded them or maybe can change the configuration a little bit. But this a generational sport that gets handed down, you know, a lot of times with the appreciation of it from grandpa's, the kids, to, or to your dad to, to his kid.

Darlington is that way for me. And when they moved the Southern 500 back to labor Day, where it should be, should have always been and should always be, I made a point that I went there with my parents and I was like, we are Going to be at that Southern 500 back on lab every day. We're going to make sure that we do our part to make, make that crowd as big as possible. And I went to Darlington this year with my oldest son back in, back in March. It's the only racetrack that I ever went to with both my grandpa's and, and I can appreciate how, how those folks fail talking about the track coming back. So in 2009 there was, there was talk of trying to get back in there. And this is when Bruton Smith was still alive. And again, for the fans that don't know, NASCAR never took the date away. They didn't fight taking it away. But Bruton Smith and Bob Bear bought the racetrack from the Staley family which had owned it since the late forties. Bruton took his date to Texas and Bob Bear took the other date to have two at New Hampshire. So the track sits there and then there's talk of let's, let's have a late model race there in 2009. And I had the chance to talk to Junior Johnson and the Terry Parsons and those folks and had a late model race there in 2010, Labor Day weekend. Chase Elliot won it 25 years after Bill had won the Winston me and it was crazy. It was a good crowd, you know, people waving their hats the last five or ten laps just like when Bill won the million. Come back the next year, have a 75,000 win super late model race there and then. And there were some other races in between their cars, races and things of that nature that doesn't go through in the track sits there, you know, for another 15 years or so. But during COVID Dale Jr. Those guys, they go in there, clean it up to scan it for our racing. That's really the first thing that brings it brings it back to attention. And then the racetrack revival in 2022 and I got to announce those. They ran for two or three weeks, you know, super late models one week and pro late Models one week. And then that last week they had the cars late model stocks there with Dale Jr. Racing in it. And I remember seeing Marcus Smith there and that place was full. And I remember telling Matt Weaver after that race, we were walking into the parking lot and I was like, do you realize that we just saw something that you never ever, never, never ever see again? Because we're at this old racetrack that's been closed down for 30 years. There's no running water. You know, the place is just as raw and as bare boned as it can be. And Marcus Smith sees that. It's like this place is viable and the fans brought that track back. I mean, it's just. It's a long winded story on my part, but it's just. It's something that you'll never, ever see. And I hope that we get cup races back at Rockingham, and I think that's more up in the air than ever. Now. Would we watch going on with. With ihra? But that is an amazing story. It's an amazing story that this racetrack is back.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah, I would never. I wouldn't. When it closed, I never thought cup would go back, but I can't say never.

[Herman Schrader]

So. Only because I was there. Mr. Hoffman, who runs the racetrack, he was just like you, Dietz. That was your therapy session just now. You deets. You just gave us your therapy session. And. And Mr. Hoffman, who runs the racetrack, he talked for 15 straight minutes during Trackside Live. And me and Johnny Roberts and Jose, we stared at each other. And after the show, he said, man, I'm sorry I went so long. And I said, no. And Diet, you just did him. And that. That sums up the whole deal. This was a therapy session for everybody. And it. It's sad to say, but one thing that it all comes down to, and once again, I'm going to repeat myself, this is sad to say. It was Covid. It was Covid money. And they said it, not me. That's not me that brought this back. But they did say Dale Jr. Did light the wick. He did light it on fire.

Well, I had. I had a guy that has worked there pre Speedway Motorsports and Post Speedway Motorsports, and we were talking last year, I went there during a test and I said, what would Junior think all of this? You know? And Terry Parsons, Benny Parsons widow said that. Benny was like, all I want is to see NASCAR back at North Wilkesboro, do whatever you could do to make that happen. And this guy told me, he said, Junior said if. He said, if you can get the politicians on your side, this place will have cup racing back again. Everybody's like, nah. Well, sure enough, the politicians got behind this. And that's what. What kept this racetrack in. The fans did exactly what everybody up there in Wilkes county said is if you bring a race back here, Schrader, the fans will support it. And they have, okay.

[Kenny Schrader]

And, man, I loved everything I saw. But then let's go to. Just for a minute now know if we're off subject or not. But let's go to what made all this possible. I Think was the, okay, you know, I'm NASCAR all the way true and blue all time. But the downturn that we had in popularity, that took away from Kentucky, that took away from Fontana, you know, that we just brought Chicagoland back this year. That popularity downturn that we had, however many years ago allowed this place to come back. Otherwise we would have never looked at it because we'd have been at those other places.

Well, the biggest, the biggest problem in Wallace you could speak to this is that old school fans felt forgotten and there is progress and you need to move forward. And NASCAR gave that a shot, and NASCAR gave that a chance. And I think that you can have both. And again, I think you've got the right leadership in place now that they can see both sides of. There's still talk of going worldwide, international, which I don't. That's a whole different conversation. But at least in this aspect, they get it. And you know, there's a reason that North Wilkesboro was on the schedule for 50 years. You know, it survived the short track purge at the beginning of the 70s when Winston came in. And you know, tracks like North Wilkesboro is what made it, you know, what made the sport. And I think we got a good mix of short tracks, we got a good mix of intermediate super speedways, road courses, and. And I think that the guys right now in charge are. Are the right people to be leading us at this time.

I got two things. There's nothing like taking something from somebody to make them want it. So we took Wilkesboro away and that pissed everybody off. You know, they've been airing some old footage from the last race there. It was like people died.

Yeah, Bill Weber said it was like being there for a funeral.

[Herman Schrader]

The last race, the videos would be going everywhere on social media. Bill Weber saying, you know how bad it was and everybody's so sad. And so when you take something from somebody that they like. And here's the second thing, and Kenny, I think you'll like this because you've trained me. That place don't seat but 15,000 people. You put 15,000 people in there, baby, and it's rocking all the other places. You put 15,000 people in and the sports dying because it seats 60,000 people. 15,000 people made Wilkesboro look like this unbelievable success. But can you imagine putting 15,000 people in Bristol that people would lit it up, all the sports failing. But 15,000 people. Wilkesboro, buddy. It's perfect for right now.

Well, if. If eldora ran their 200,000 to win sprint car race Saturday night. If they'd had 15,000 people there, they'd have been jumping up and down screaming, what's wrong? Because they got a lot more.

What do you guys make of svg? He just about won the first stage. I don't think he ever ran worse than sixth in this race. It looks like he's got a shot at making the chase and it's got nothing to do with winning races. He, he could point his way in and I think last night with a long way to making that possible to

2 of the word names that we keep talking about throughout the year is SVG and Josevar. And guess what, there's a reason we keep talking about now. I mean there's also Josevar runs into a lot of people and SVG wins a lot of road course races. So there's other reasons we talk about but you just look at those cars and those teams and every week those guys are host of ours right there. And SVG is, keeps becoming more and more competitive on the oval sports and it's, it's just neat to see. I mean I was, I was pulling for him like crazy to win that stage. And you know, right there off of four, you knew he was in a little bit of trouble when Gibbs got that run, but what a great job and consistent. It's not like he was there for a stage and then they got behind and never caught up again. He was there.

[Herman Schrader]

I'm going to steal one, an old one that I remember. You know, sometimes we remember things that we shouldn't remember. Dale Senior, when Nigel Mansell came over to IndyCar, you know, and Nigel Struggled a little bit. And I remember Dale Senior saying, give Nigel Mansell a little time, he'll figure it out. And Nigel Mansell did figure it out. And that's, that's what we're seeing right now. Just give SVG some time to figure it out. And he's there. He's there. And so I think about Dale Senior saying that. And so svg, finally, he's figuring it out. You can't keep a world class driver down. He's arrived a couple of, a couple

of hot seat drivers to had problems last night. We know Josh Berry's out of the 21. Saw him get as animated and frustrated after he got taken out than he's ever been because usually he's a pretty calm, collected guy. And then the Alex Bowman problem, coming to the pits, high pressure, knows that people are looking at him. You're at a racetrack where you have got to make, you know, the right decisions as far as when to pit, how to pit, and not speeding on pit lane, and he ends up getting in that exit. Are we seeing a little bit of pressure for these guys? Kind of starting to, to come to the four now?

[Kenny Schrader]

Hey, it's, it's a really cool job. Drive one of those cars in there. But it comes with pressure and a lot of it. And when, you know, when you're not running like you want to, the pressure just keeps mounting. Now Joey Logano, look what they did under pressure. But that's with a whole lot of experience, a whole lot of confidence and a whole lot of history. A whole lot of wins as a team to fall back on.

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah. You know, Dietz, I'll say this about Alex Bowman and Kenny knows this. When you pit under green flag, it's a big deal. I mean, you know, Kenny Schrader and myself, when we raced, we spent one full lap with our hand out the window. We're just warning everybody behind us, damn it, we're pitting, we're pitting, we're pitting because of what happened to Alex Bowman and those guys. I mean, that's what you're afraid of and what we were afraid of our whole careers. And then our spotter would tell to go down to the other spotter, you know, the car behind us. We're pitting, we're pitting. And there was miscommunication, you know, at Wilkesboro, and they just wrecked their ass off. Pitting.

But do you, do you think it can be from, if, if I'm nervous about something, say I got a job and I'm, you know, in 2012, NASCAR had layoffs. And I remember, I was. We knew they were coming, and I was. You get so tense and so cognizant that you don't want to make a mistake, you end up making mistakes. And if Alex Bowman's on the hot seat, then Blake Harris is on the hot seat. And if Blake Harris is on the hot seat, then, I mean, this affects everybody. Spotter and everybody to where if you're, if you're all tensed up trying not to make a mistake, a lot of times it'll. You'll make a mistake.

[Kenny Schrader]

It's tough business.

[Herman Schrader]

Well, Kenny. Kenny simplifies it. I'm. I'm a weird. I'm a, I'm a weirdo. I'm off centered. I, I think if Alex Bowman were to lose that ride and they brought a new driver in, you know, Listen, Kenny knows Mr. H better than me, but usually when you bring a new driver in, they do wholesale changes because it's. When they bring that new driver and it's like, well, who do you like for a crew chief? He can say, well, I like Blake. Let's leave Blake there. Or he can go, hey, you know, I, I want this driver, you know, so we'll see. And I do want to comment on. I got brain fade. What's the 21 driver?

Oh, Barry. Josh Barry.

Yeah. I felt for him. I really felt for him because here's a, Here's a great race car driver on a local level, and Rodney Childers spent two years bragging on Josh Berry, and Josh Berry is a great driver.

Dale Jr. Too.

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah. So we know Josh Berry's a great driver, but like Connor Zillich, I mean, my God, if there's a wreck, he's in it. So I think when you get up in the morning, if you make a right out of your house, make a left, do something different, Change your life up.

Well, we've seen Josh Berry run really good at times in that car. It's not like that combination isn't capable. They just haven't been able to string the runs together.

I think the wrap up, the Alex Bowman thing, he's got you. You've got Corey Day and Raja Cruz in the wings. If he loses that 48, right, I think he's finished. I just. And I don't know that his attitude might not even be that way. He's got broken up and hurt and concussions and broken his back. So we'll just have to see. But on a different note, another team that we talk a lot about, front row Motorsports. I want to touch on the truck race, but before we touch on the truck race, this in season challenge where they seed everybody from 1 to 36, you got chase Elliott, who's. Who's going to Indianapolis with a shot at this thing. But just like Todd Dillon last year, you got Todd Gilliland sitting there, ran a great race last night and is going to the end season challenge with a chance to. To he beat Chase Elliott. So he's going there now with a chance to go up against Blaney and have a shot to win this thing.

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah, Kenny, I'll take that one real quick. I just, I do know a lot about that one. That was a. That was a big upset. So Gilliland finishes eighth and just, you know, and Chase Elliot gets caught a lap down because of the old school

race and can't ever make it up. It's like he was never competitive after that.

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah. So Todd Gilliland, it wasn't, it wasn't an upset like, oh, they lucked into it. Todd Gilliland run eighth. And I'll tell you what, that Front Row Motorsports, you know, Chandler Smith won the truck race, that Front Row Motorsports will spin you out because just when you think they're a lower level team, they will win some damn races. So like you said, for $1 million at Indy, it's going to be Ryan Blaney first. Todd Gillen, well, you know Blaney's going to win it. But hold on. Chase Elliott should have beat Todd.

[Kenny Schrader]

You don't know Blaney's going to win it. You're. You're betting on him. But you don't know that. Just like, you know, the little upset we saw yesterday.

Well, in front rows. Click it along just like you said, Herm. I mean, Chandler Smith wins the truck race. I think Lane Riggs was second. That they have probably. They've got the most dominant team in truck series and have had a dominant team in the truck series the last couple of years. And you keep seeing that cup team get a little bit better. Zane Smith, you know, up there and running strong and, you know, maybe. Maybe they're the next spire. It seems like they're right on that. That edge of kind of figuring it out.

[Herman Schrader]

So. Okay, I'm gonna be a smart ass right now. For. For as broke as everybody is, nobody's got any money. But Front Run Motorsports is so broke that they got two or three trucks and all these cup teams. I get it. I get it. I don't count other people's money, but I Think it's good comedy. Okay, I'm a smart ass, but it's. It's comedy. It's comedy. We're so broke, but we got to start three truck teams or two truck teams. And I don't know the story and I'm not counting their money, but boy, that, that is, that is the winner. Front Row Motorsports. They are the winner of lower level team that shows up so well, they're making chicken salad out of chicken. They run good for being broke.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah, well, I don't. I mean, who's saying they're broke? I mean, who. You know, they were in the lawsuit, remember?

[Herman Schrader]

Exactly.

[Kenny Schrader]

They were one of the teams that want the only other team that stood up and said no, we're not, we're, we're not. That's not right. We're going to do something different. I do not know. Good point a lot about the ownership of that team, but I've been told it's very stout.

[Podcast Host (Possibly Kenny Wallace)]

Yeah, I think that they've got some short people over there and you know, they're more tied in with Ford, I think on the Penske side of it. And, and I think you're starting to see some of those dividends. I want to ask you guys about practice. So they extended, they increased the practice time for cup cars from 50, 25 minutes to 50 minutes. And since COVID we've seen a lot of these races now not have practice. And it seems like it did throw some drivers for a loop. What I mean, thinking about the days when you guys were racing cars, I know you didn't have the S and T data and all of that kind of stuff. How important was practice? I mean, did you look at practice and say, oh, this just a waste of time, time, let's just race. Or were there things that you actually could learn in it?

[Kenny Schrader]

We, we, we know you wanted to practice because you wanted to try to get better, but we started to race at Wilkesboro one time with no practice, no qualifying, no anything, just lined up and started. And we had, we, we didn't have the simulators or we didn't have all the laptops and all the, all the information that they have now. But the crew chief had a friggin notebook. And it was from the last however many years that we had been there. And you just lined up and raced no different than it is now.

[Herman Schrader]

So I followed this. NASCAR was the one that did this. You know, they had been splitting the field in half and they say okay, 20, 25 minutes for all of you. 20, 25 minutes. For the other half now they're going to put everybody out there for 50 minutes. And NASCAR said that we believe that this is going to help the mid level teams find something. But there's another key to this. Once again I know we get tired of hearing about it but the old school fans, they scream we want practice. I'm like really? Are you going to watch? Are they going to televise it? Do you really want practice? Are you going to go in the grandstands? I don't think so. I think this is NASCAR thinking it's going to help the mid level team. So that's my takeaway.

I will say whenever. When I was growing up, one thing that I loved is I love being able to go to watch the O'Reilly series race now and 30 minutes after the race to cup cars came out there for happy hour and it was neat. And again being a Bill Elliot fan I'd watch Bill go out there and make about one run and I'd leave. But I thought it was cool to see those guys come out there and the fans would stick around and I think if you do it like that I think it's worthwhile

[Kenny Schrader]

in the garage area. We were all pretty happy when they got rid of final practice being after the Saturday race. All of a sudden your Saturday you were, you were leaving that track while the Saturday race was going on. You also if you had, you know, there was Saturday afternoon practice didn't always go so good. So if something happened then, now it's 6:30 at night and your rollbacks bringing in your car, it's like oh, this is a lot bigger problem on it being instead of being 10:30 or 11 in the morning when the rollbacks bring it in your primary car, we, we were pretty happy. Now I understand what you said. That's those people that want to see that practice after the race. I don't see that happening again. But never say never, hey, I'll put

[Herman Schrader]

it, I'll put an end to this. I had no idea. I had, I had no clue. I didn't realize that at, at Talladega they don't even practice. They qualify and go straight into the. I never knew that. I'm too busy doing other stuff I guess. Blew my mind. I couldn't believe it. I read that the other day. So there's that.

[Podcast Host (Possibly Kenny Wallace)]

What do you. I, you know, I thought the throwback deal had kind of played itself out at Darlington and I think this year they got, they didn't have an official throwback weekend. But I have got to say that last night, watching that Black two go around Kenny was pretty doggone neat. And the driver intros, too. You interview, you introduced host bar, but they had different guys introduced different drivers last night, right?

[Herman Schrader]

Yeah. And I got to be honest with you, I. Kenny's gonna get mad at me for saying this, but the whole time that I was. I was thinking to myself, man, I wish Schrader was here. I wish Kenny Schrader was here. But then I told my friend John, I said, you know, if. If NASCAR invites you to these deals, you know, you got to drive there, you got to fly. It's a massive effort to go down there, but, you know, it's like, Jeff Gordon was gonna come, and then he backed out, you know, because of his daughter. It's a lot to get the older drivers just to come back for a couple seconds. But, yeah, they had about 10 of the legends, you know, the Wood Brothers, Kyle Petty, Jeff Hammond, Ray Evernham, Kenny Wallace. Well, I'm not a legend, but. But, yeah, I blew it out my ass and Old guy, but I blew it out my ass. Introducing Carson Hoves of our. You know me, I'm gonna make a show out of it. I'm gonna stand out. And buddy, the old goats, the old legends, they just said their names. When it came to Carson, Osamar, man, I turn on Worldwide Wrestling on him, and Carson loved it. I told Carson, I said, do you. Do you still like me or not? He goes, man, I love you. I said, you know, I'm talking about you all the time. He goes, oh, I know. He says, but you're not talking bad about me. So I said, okay, look, I'm gonna introduce you and stir some up. And he goes, let's do it. So he played. He played with me. He stood out there smiling. So, yeah, Carson, he's. You know, he's practicing what he preaches. So, you know, if I'm gonna talk about Carson, I got. I gotta stand out there in front of everybody and go, hit me with tomatoes. Here I am. And it was fun.

It had to be neat for you, too, to see. To see Rusty as the Grand Marshall and that Black two back out there.

[Herman Schrader]

You know, I've been getting a lot of grief lately because I'm so proud of Schrader and my brother. You know, I love Rusty, and, you know, if it weren't for Rusty, I wouldn't be where I'm at. And if it weren't for Schrader, I definitely wouldn't be racing dirt cars. I'm just different I'm wired different. I'm very emotional. I'm very thankful all the time. But. But Rusty deserved that and more. And. And, you know, seeing Austin Cindric drive Rusty's car and, you know, listen, Rusty deserved every bit of it. I think Kenny agree with this. I mean, Rusty was a short track ace, grew up in asa. And man, when you look at Rusty stats, he. He won most of his races, if not all of them at Wilkesboro, three there, seven at Bristol, Richmond, Martinsville. And I asked him, I said, why did you choose Rusty? And that's the reason they chose him, because he was good. At Wilkesboro, three big wins and one controversial one knocking the hell out of Jeff Bodine.

Well, there was one time, Schrader, that I. There was. You know, cars are all mixed up out there on the racetrack and stuff like that. You know, some cars on lead lap, some cars on the lead lap. But there was a tight shot, and it was the black 3, the black 2, and the 24. And I was like, wow, that. I was like, that's. That is a throwback there. I mean, it takes your mind back.

[Kenny Schrader]

That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool. Now, everything about it was. It was neat. And the race, the race was good. I just. But I go back to the same thing. I always say, these guys can put on good races anywhere. You know, they just need a little bit of a track to work with.

As we look ahead. The haters. All they're going to do is gripe this weekend about how empty the grandstands are at Indianapolis. So I'll ask both of you there, there is a part of me that has said, you know what, the Indy experiment was great. While it was great and they tried to road course and those races were okay. Do you ever see a time where NASCAR says, you know what, let's just cut our losses and there's no point in us going to end anymore? Because if I'm a sponsor, it is pretty embarrassing to look at the stands.

Okay, But I'm a number guy. Let's say it's embarrassing. Let's say it's embarrassing. And they have, in this 300,000 seat stadium, they have 40,000 people, but we're thrilled about 15,000 this week. You know, we just got this. Depends what you want, but it's a hell of a lot bigger market than North Wilkesboro.

So you think if your sponsors, you don't, you don't get the perspective. Does not bother you. You do like the fact that it's, it's India, it's a bigger market and, and it is more fans.

I know when they do the shots on TV and they show the skyline of Indianapolis, there's a whole lot more people down there that I can do business with. And in that, in that skyline, as far as corporations and there's a whole lot more spectators in that surrounding hundred miles that can watch that race or can come out to that race.

So, I mean, you've never seen the Wilkes county skyline.

All 300 people in Wilkes.

Hey, was it, did they really. Was it a still or a storage room that they found under them Grandstands?

I know the story. Let's hear the story. The grandstands were falling down, so they didn't want the people going, oh, your grandstands are falling down.

I was told this story by Mr. Hoffman, the man that runs the racetrack. The grandstands were falling down, caving in. So they made a story and it was just fun. And people were saying, did you really find. And he goes, well, you know, I don't know. It was fun is what it was all about. But they, they were trying to. Instead of going, hey, the damn. The concrete grandstands were falling in. But that's, I mean, the track was built in 1947 and the damn track was falling in. But you know, Kenny, I gotta tell you, I kind of had a good eye on everything, man. They have renovated that place to the maximum peak. I mean, they, Whatever money they got from COVID they spent every bit of it and went and found more because it is a totally up to date facility. But still. Still with all the old stuff, nothing changed. They just fixed everything. I mean, the way you get there with your passenger car is identical. Now, they do have the bridge going across 421 for parking across the highway. That's about the only damn thing I saw, you know, but it. It is still the same damn Wilkesboro.

Do you come out the back straightaway and turn right and go down that gravel road to get out still, or is that gravel road paved?

[Herman Schrader]

It's asphalt. But the credential. The credential trailer, Kenny, is like you make the right, and you. And you go all the way down to 421. NASCAR had their big tractor trailer like three miles away. There's no room there. If they said. If they said, let's put 50,000 seats in here, there's nowhere to put them. So the 15,000 people, that's all they can fit in there anyway.

The best thing is the media center still the same under victory Lane.

And the lift. I don't know if you noticed, Kenny. The. The lift is still rusted, but, you know, they put the new hydraulic and everything. They still lifting the cars up on that old lift is. Is something else.

Well, Lucas Oil late models were at Shelby County, I think it is, in Harlan, Iowa. And Saturday night, Ricky Thornton won Davenport runs second, and sprint cars said World Outlaws had to be off because little Pierce and Hoffman were racing with Lucas Bobby Pierce. Daddy Bob had a stroke. We're hearing good reports. They haven't said a whole lot about. I haven't read last couple days, but Bob Bobby had put out that daddy was doing good. And world outlaw sprint cars and high limits were at Eldora for four nights. It was a regular. Kind of a regular race a little bit. Think paid 20 to win or something Wednesday, paid 100 to win Thursday, and Kyle Larson won another 20,000 to win Friday and 200,000 Saturday. And Anthony Mack. Is it Anthony Mackey, the 39 car. The concrete kid Macri. Yeah, that is. Has broke his back twice in the last year and a half or so, but he broke the bank there.

Yeah, yeah. Which, I mean, it's world outlaw sprint car show. Be huge. Now I'm gonna go run Friday. I'm riding or I'm riding my motorcycle up and I'm gonna run over to Toledo, you know, Friday because it's school bus figure eight race.

Oh, do not hurt yourself.

Yeah, Drager told me. Ron Drager that owns Toledo, he's. He told me when I was first going to do it a couple years ago, he said, now don't, don't make fun of this. He said these buses have been clocked in excess of 23 mile an hour. But let me tell you what they flip hard. Let me found out. Let me tell you what I found out was when you're running 23 mile an hour and you hit another park bus, it's a pretty big deal. But we have safer barriers for when you turn over. They take the seat cushions off and put on the left side right by the driver's seat. So you just go up against the seat cushion. Then I'll ride back home Friday night and we're going to go somewhere Saturday. Don't know where yet, but we're going somewhere. I have a list of potentials so

I will be coming down the hill. So my son in law, Brody is bringing the mod up here to Oshawekan. I'll get in a truck with him. And Michael Rigsby said, herman, what do we got to do to get you back to the Prairie dirt Classic? I said, oh, man. Just when I thought I was done with the pdc, but so on our way home we're going to stop at the Prairie Dirt Classic and my wife Kim is going to bring some merchandise and so for Michael Rigsby and, and I said, what the hell? So, nope, there's no Peebley this week. It's off for me. There's no Peebley. So I said, well, I'll run the pdc. So I'm running the Prairie Dirt Classic in Fairberry.

That's a, that's a fantastic event. I mean that. I'm glad to see you there. That, that they do a fantastic event there. I always thought it was so cool. The guy that wins the late mile stuff drives the, drives the car to the bank, to the drive through at the bank and they do a bunch of publicity shots there. But that's a fantastic event.

Yeah, it is. It is cool. Driving the late model down the city street to the drive thru. Yeah, it's a, it's a, it's a great tradition.
