Herman Schrader on the Dirty Mo Media platform from the middle of America in St. Louis, Missouri starts right now. The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media. I'm looking at Kenny Schrader right now. He's a drinker in the show, I mean. Yeah. How in the world did we agree to do a podcast? I like spending time with you. That makes me happy. Well, it's all about making you happy. We're always honest. We don't know that we're not in trouble already. And sometimes truthful. What makes you think you're not a little different? You're weird. Herman Schrader.
Alan Dietz
But we're not in the middle of America, and I'm not Ken Schrader.
Herman Schrader
Alan Dietz.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
We lost Kenny Schrader. He's up in Canada. We have been trying for four hours.
Alan Dietz
He's literally lost in Canada.
Herman Schrader
Well, everybody, as you can tell by now, we've made an executive decision. I am in the Dirty Most studios this weekend and Mike Davis said just roll on. We love Kenny Schrader.
Alan Dietz
We do.
Herman Schrader
But he is up there with his sponsor, Federated Auto Parts with no WI Fi. And we have tried and we have tried, but we'll do our best today. Deets, how's it going, buddy?
Alan Dietz
I'm great. Cause I'm still going to get paid. I'm glad Mike Davis made that decision. I need all the money I can get.
Herman Schrader
Oh, my God. All right, everybody, we're going to keep the show rolling. Well, we're going to keep the same format this weekend or last weekend. I went up to Plymouth, Indiana, and sure, a lot of people have heard by now, I had a big wreck. Plymouth, Indiana, Plymouth Speedway. I ran a wedge, super late model. Man, that thing was badass. Ran it on asphalt. 75 lap race and was running third or fourth at the end. Six laps to go and some old boy was trying to get to the outside of me. He couldn't get it done. When he came back in line, his left front grabbed my right rear, sent me into the wall. Deets. And I mean, all hell broke loose.
Alan Dietz
So, yeah, you hit hard and some guy what, turned over.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, you saw it?
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, it was a pretty big deal. Well, they had a tough time getting this man out of his race car, was worried for him. And when they finally got him out, he was the size of Carson Hosavar, 6, 2, 6 4. You know, his Hans device got caught up. He couldn't get out of the car. But when he did, now I know why he's panicking. DC had oil all over his face, motor oil.
Alan Dietz
So, hey, let me tell you, and I hate to bring this up, but there was a guy in Canada, it was five or 10 years ago and maybe even longer, but the car turned over and he was fine. Rescue workers are over there talking to him. He's fine. And they undid his belts. And when they undid his belts, the car was still turned. He died because he couldn't breathe.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, that is something that is scary to talk about. But I will bring up another subject. Some older man, 20 years ago, he was upside down. It's sad to say, but it, you know, I've been upside down a lot. Well, I say a lot three, four times. And I learned when you're upside down, you got to put one hand out and hold yourself. And when you release your seatbelts, you know, if you don't hold yourself up, you fall down. And people have broke their neck and they have not got hurt in the wreck, they've got hurt unleashing their seatbelt and they fall down and break their neck.
Alan Dietz
And I heard Maurice Petty tell a story, you know when Richard hit the wall at Darlington in 1970 and car flips and he's hanging. It's terrible looking wreck and Maurice and everybody goes over there and they think he's dead. And they undid his belts. After all he's been through, they undid his belts and he falls into the top of the car and went. And they knew he was still alive.
Herman Schrader
Oh, my God. Knock the breath back in him. Well, maybe, maybe that helped. So anyway, what hurt? There was only six laps to go and that was a big deal up there in Plymouth, Indiana and. But we came back down the hill. We got my Toyota Tundra, we drove six hours on Saturday and we made it to i55, Federated Auto Parts Raceway finished fifth, and that was it. So here we are.
Alan Dietz
Yeah, tell everybody why you're in North Carolina. You're here for the. You got a lot going on this week.
Herman Schrader
It's a big week. It's like I told Kim, Kim, do you know what the month of May is? Kim's like, what? I said, honey, it's the Coke 600. It's the Indianapolis 500. And so I'm here because my son in law, Brody Pompey, he builds outlaw carts. And these are the fast go karts with the wings on them. They got a big $5,000 to win show right here at Millbridge. And my youngest daughter Brittany is married to Brody. And Brittany says, mom, can you come down and help me watch the two kids? Why Brody races. So it worked out perfect. I did a door bumper clear on Monday morning and here we are doing Herman Schrader. And Thursday we got the big Arby stage right here at Junior Motorsports. Then Sunday, Dietz is going to be trackside live.
Alan Dietz
Oh, yeah.
Herman Schrader
At their Charlotte Motor Speedway. So what about you, buddy? What'd you do over the weekend?
Alan Dietz
Basketball. I watched. Not me. I mean, if, you know, if anybody has seen me lately, you know, I didn't play basketball, but my son Hampton plays AAU ball. So we went Saturday and Sunday and watched him play down in Rock Hill. And. And I watched a lot of racing on TV. Everything in Dover, some streams, Indy 500, qualifying. It was. It was nice. It was. I don't get a lot of weekends, the. Between his basketball and my announcing the, you know, sit back and actually not do a whole lot on Saturdays and Sundays, but it worked out on Sunday where I could watch everything and enjoy it.
Herman Schrader
Alan Dietz has been in racing his whole life, and I feel like you got a lot to add. And obviously I want to thank you for being our producer, but filling in for Kenny Schrader today. So the show rolls on. Here we are six minutes into it. Are you ready to go? Deech, you ready?
Alan Dietz
I'm ready.
Herman Schrader
I'm ready.
Alan Dietz
I'm ready to show people. We could do an hour without Schrader.
Herman Schrader
It's going to be hard, but we. Okay, Denny Hamlin, Listen, this is a lot, but we're just going to start with Denny. Denny wins the All Star race. And let's start right there. Before we get into the optics, the looks, the crowd. Should the format stay. Should the All Star race stay? Listen up, everybody. We know what everybody's saying out there, But Denny Hamlin, 45 years old, and it's not old, but after seeing Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, you know, just about everybody in modern era has been done at 42, 43 years old. Everybody seems to be caught off guard at Denny Hamlin's winning ways. If he's not winning, he's running second. I will say that when you look at Denny Hamlin in totality for he's a young 45 because he, you know, he stays in physical shape. He's friends with Michael Jordan, coach Joe Gibbs. They got great trainers. Are you surprised Denny Hamlin is winning and running up so up front at 45?
Alan Dietz
No, no, not as you. He's probably in physical, physically better shape than he was when he started. I mean, you know, when he started, you could look at him and he was, you know, kind of paunchy and. And not in great shape, but he plays a lot of basketball and like you said, the trainers and so physically, he's probably in better shape than he's Ever been. You know how strong the Toyotas are this year. I think they've definitely got a little bit of an advantage, you know, compared to Ford and Chevrolet would, would where they are with newer bodies and stuff like that. So, you know, Joe Gibbs racing's got a lot of strength. But I'll tell you, the biggest thing that Danny Hamlin's got going for him is he's probably the smartest guy out there. I mean, really. And honestly, he, he, the way his racecraft works, you know, he knows when to go, he knows when not to go, he knows when he's got a car that can win. When he. You could just watch yesterday, especially in that second segment. And so they invert him and he started about 20th, you know, after the cars had wrecked, not 26. He was going to start 25th because he finished second. But anyway, started about 19th or 20th and they noticed it on the broadcast. He just kind of took, you know, somebody wanted to race hard. He just let him go and, and took his time and it came around and it worked his, you know, favor. And then that last 200 laps he dominated and I think he just outsmarted people. And don't forget, you know, we talk about guys at that age, you know, Harry Gantt, Bobby Allison, Bill Elliot, you know, later in his career, Rusty. I mean, what, he retired when he was what, about 5th, 49 or 55. Oh, and we're still winning.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. I think what I'm impressed with Denny Hamlin is in this new era where it takes so much, back in my day, you could get away with being older. Nowadays, the compass competition so tight, you have engineers, you have sim. Specifically, what I'm impressed with Denny Hamlet is he. He's been able to start out in the old days and he has been able to make that transition to engineers to the sim, you know, and you listen to him on actions detrimental. He studies tape, he puts in the work, which, you know, is harder for older drivers to do. I just feel like Denny has made that transition. Listen up, everybody. The reason we're talking about this is Denny's saying, you know, this is it. Maybe this year, maybe next year. But it is the story. These all star races, you got to dig, you got to go. And so congratulations to Denny Hamlin and myself and Alan Dietz have given you our opinion on why we think Denny Hamlin at 45 is still in the game. And you know, I don't know if you're going to be able to bring it up. You know, that's his, you Know, he won a points race. He won that race. I'm guessing he's lost a couple races this year. You know, for. He's a victim of circumstance. I, I think he easily has three wins and the All Star race, but there have been some wins where he's got it snatched away from him right at the very end. So I easily see Denny with three wins this year where he runs second or third, and of course the big All Star win.
Alan Dietz
And, and listen, we, I named some older guys that went a long ways too. Don't forget Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, you know, right there around 44, 45. You know, you look at when guys are kind of peaking in their career, you know, those guys were just as good as they ever were. And like, Danny Ham was just, just a smart guy. He just outsmarts a lot of guys.
Herman Schrader
He's still trending updates. Yeah, I mean, he's not leveling. He's not getting one race a year. I mean, every single weekend it's like this guy is still digging. Okay. As Larry McRel say, I think we beat that like a dead horse. Okay. This All Star race, there's a lot to say about it, but let's, let's start like this. Here's the disclaimer, everybody. We know that they took all the grandstands out and we know that NASCAR's not like it used to be. However, when they said we're going to go to Dover, everybody said, what? Ain't nobody going to show up and you're going to run it in the daytime. We know that, you know, one hot night. Now, we know that this race started in the daytime. We got, you know, the so called pass in the grass that made highlights between Dale Jr. Or Dale Sr. And Bill Elliott. But this race was always meant for night deets. I'm going to have my opinion. But what do you think of that crowd? What did you look at the, what do you think of the aesthetics?
Alan Dietz
The crowd was way better than I thought it would be. I didn't think it would be that good. But, you know, I kind of got a feeling Saturday watching the O'Reilly race that, you know, I was like, wow, that's a good crowd for an O'Reilly race at Dover in this day and age. So, you know, the weather absolutely played to everybody's favor. I think it kind of woke some people up maybe in that area that, hey, you know, we didn't think we would not have a points race at Dover, so maybe we better get out and support this All Star Race. I think the. The excitement of. Of having the All Star Race, you know, in the Northeast for the first time, you know, brought some people out and stuff like that. And I saw where Dale Jr. Said it somewhere, and I cannot echo this enough. I loved that it started at 1 o'. Clock. I missed. The beginning is just like when I
Herman Schrader
was 1 10, baby.
Alan Dietz
It was just like when I was a kid.
Herman Schrader
We.
Alan Dietz
We want the preacher to hurry up and get finished, because if we didn't get out of church and get to Grandma's fest, we were going to miss the beginning of the race. I missed the beginning of the. I love that it started at 1 o'.
Herman Schrader
Clock.
Alan Dietz
I wish that would happen more. I don't think in this day and age it ever will. But I enjoyed that it started at 1:00 clock and got over it at a decent time.
Herman Schrader
I will add, I believe that the Northeast is rabid. And I've talked to Stuart Friesen about this and Jeff Bodine and everybody from the Northeast. The winters are so long up there that there's a theory that when racing comes around, they're rabid, meaning they're ready. And I think the Northeast, obviously, they showed up. They showed up big time. And in that area, you know, I've talked to a lot of my friends, and of course, I've been there. You know, one big advantage that Dover has for them right now, they got the casino off the back straightaway. You got sambos, which, you know, you don't. A lot of people don't realize it, but there is good eating around that oceanic area. I mean, it's close. The ocean's close. I know it's not right there, but. And then you got Philadelphia right up the road, not an hour. So, like, we. We pulled a lot of fans in Dietz from the great Northeast. So I think that when they held this race there, they probably thought about that.
Alan Dietz
Yeah. I mean. Or, you know, you don't want to. Look. I. It's terrible to say this, but, you know, Schrader always says, you know, they didn't take a race away from North Wilkesboro. NASCAR didn't take a race away from Rockingham. The ownership changed and. And they decided to move them somewhere else. You know, you get a crappy crowd up there. Well, we got to move it. We can't have races at Dover anymore.
Herman Schrader
And listen, everybody. I don't know how many people were there, but the front straightaway was full. The. Those grandstands are enormous. I'm going to take a Guess and say there was 40,000 people. I don't care if it's 25 to 40. There was a lot of people there and it looked good. All right. We all.
Alan Dietz
Race was better than I thought it would be.
Herman Schrader
We're going to go there right now. We wanted to. We wanted to give Dover in the Northeast their due. It looked good. Okay. I want to grow the game of soccer and give every kid the chance to play.

Herman Schrader
Nobody liked the race. Nobody liked it.
Alan Dietz
Yeah. For Schrader. What was Jeff Gluck's poll? It's not good. It's pretty bad.
Herman Schrader
Let me. You kill a little time here.
Alan Dietz
We're gonna.
Herman Schrader
Yep. Shredder's here in spirit, everybody.
Alan Dietz
He's here in spirit.
Herman Schrader
Let's look at Jeff Cluck's. Paul. Here it is. I'm bringing it up just like everything in life.
Alan Dietz
Yeah. I looked earlier, and unless it's changed a lot, it was not very positive.
Herman Schrader
I'm waiting for it to load okay, but when it lows, I'll bust back in and tell everybody was it a good race or not? But I. I know it wasn't. Okay, but getting back to our original conversation, it looked good, but nobody liked the race. What do we. What do we do with this All Star race? Everybody is lost. And here's what I want to throw out there. It seems to me like NASCAR is just exhausting everything. You know, we've gone to Wilkesboro, we've gone back to Bowman Gray, and I say it every week. Now we're going out to San Diego. Is it bad on NASCAR to be trying so hard? I mean, now everybody wants it back at Charlotte.
Alan Dietz
No. And listen, if it goes back to Charlotte and they run a 10 lap segment, the end of race, I'd say at best there's a 5050 shot that it'll be a stinker. Or. Or it could be good only because of how this car is on. On mile and a half racetracks. I think, you know, it could be a points race. You could still call it all star race. You can't have the. The tricks and the inversions and all that stuff in it, but you could still call it all star race and run it at Dover, but make it 400 laps. I mean, yesterday was 350 laps. Yeah, it was way too many. I think the first 75 lapper was okay. The second 75 was okay with the inversion. But, you know, the last. The last segment being 200 laps was way too long. But I think they wanted to give the folks in Dover, you know, as close to a full weekend in NASCAR racing as they ever had, and they did that. But again, I think if you move it to Charlotte, I don't know that it'll be all that great. If, if the fans want to see some excitement and want to see a bunch of wrecks and people tear everything up, then they could run it at Atlanta and they'll get that.
Herman Schrader
All right, we got. We got the stats. This one. This is one of the ugliest ones I've seen in years. 66% of the people say no is not a good race. 34% say yes. That's upside down.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
So that's what we need. And we've been worried about these. These social media numbers on the social media site X. Some still out of whack there. Fifteen hours ago, this poll started. Only 1800 people.
Alan Dietz
Let me give you. Let me give you an idea that might work. I thought the. The traction stuff that they put on the racetrack helped a lot. We saw it in the experience. You could see their. Yeah, yeah. I mean, we had. You know, part of the problem that Dover said is, is you'll get a little bit of black in the racetrack, but then under caution, the stickiness of the tires would actually pull it back up. So then the track would look clean again. Well, you have that this weekend, you know, from top to bottom, you could race top to bottom now. And I think that's what made the O'Reilly series race so good. But now here's a scenario, and this could be interesting if they did it 75 laps straight up, throw to caution, 75 layups. You invert the top 26. That made it interesting. What if you took, say, the top 20 average finishers in segment one and segment two, invert them again and have 20 laps for a million dollars with the fast car starting 20th. I mean, you there. Something's going to happen that's going to be wild.
Herman Schrader
Okay, I'm going to go there because I feel like it needs to be said, this is an all Star race. This is not normal. I'm saying, you know, in baseball, I mean, listen, I know we're not like any other sports, but let's just talk about the all Star race. Let's do something different. Let's throw an intermission in there. Let everybody get up, go down, take a pee, grab some beer, put Ella Langley up there choosing Texas.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
You know, Kid Rock. What? Whatever. But get, you know, if. If we're worried. Okay. Why was the race 200 laps at the end? That was insane.
Alan Dietz
It was to give the folks that they're a normal race.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. If we're worried about that long window, let's race, let's have halftime. Let's do some musical acts. Let's. Whatever. And then, hey, who doesn't like a good intermission? You know, who doesn't like. I mean, they. They do it between quarters and halves as it is. So. And I like that, you know, and even on those one hot night all star races at Charlotte, I love those breaks they went down to with the camera and they'd put up their 10 minutes. Drivers would stay in their cars, take their helmets. Let's get. Let's get some good interviews, you know, So I. I think that's something we need to look at if we're worried because.
Alan Dietz
Or don't have it or don't have
Herman Schrader
it because there's no reason to run
Alan Dietz
200 laps, just have 37. Have 37 points races. But you can't do it like that again. If the last segment would have been 75 laps, the numbers would not be as upside down as they are. It might not be favorable, but it would not be as bad as it is. The poll this week.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Okay. So I believe NASCAR said, look, we're going back there again.
Alan Dietz
That's what Mike Joyce said.
Herman Schrader
Okay? So we're going to go back there again. They need to listen to us so we know what the hell we're talking about.
Alan Dietz
Well, listen, let's.
Herman Schrader
Let's, let's. And here. Here's the deal with Dover. I've raced there plenty and other drivers have said it, too. I forgot who it was. But when you know, the best has said this, you don't race side by side at Dover. It's not conducive. When you exit the corners, you're coming Up a hill. When you go down in the corner, the car's always unloading, loading, loading, unloading, meaning having spin up by yourself.
Alan Dietz
Which we saw.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And people are not going to battle side by side. You've got to get your pass made and that's it, you know, and you're only going to have a Corey Day or a Kyle Larson hunt that high side. You can't plan on the whole field doing that.
Alan Dietz
But like I said, if you go. If you go to Dover and, and you invert it for that third segment and you only make it 20, 25 laps. If the idea is to see action, you're going to see, they're really going to wreck. They're going to tear everything all to hell. And listen, I'll tell you this, you know, and you say it whenever you say, oh, Alan's been in the industry for a long time. And this net. The next thing I've said it and I'll say it again. I've never driven a race car. I only went to races. I've only worked in the business. I can tell you what fans want to see and I can tell you what they don't want to see in 200 laps at Dover for an all star race is not what they want to see. And that is an O'Reilly.
Herman Schrader
That's an O'Reilly race four race.
Alan Dietz
I mean, they ran 350 laps yesterday. That's 50 laps short. And if you're all of these guys that go up there and didn't win the million or finish second, I think second gets a pretty decent chunk of money. You basically went up there and raised for nothing.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Okay, everybody. So we are, per Mike Joy, unless there's an audible called we are going back. And I've given you my opinion. Shorten the races. Get a good intermission in there. A couple of them get them, you know, Ella Langley up there, Kid Rock, and get some good driver interviews, you know, and keep some. Keep, keep the action going. Because I tell you what, I've seen this new world go down to Cletus McFarlane's deal. He packs them in there. It's not a lot of people, you know, maybe it's 5,000 people, but still, people want constant action deets. As soon as people feel law that. It's like I've always said, you know, this Monster Jam truck, years ago when they flipped those Monster Jam trucks, it was the biggest story in the world. Oh, my God. And now when you go to these Monster Jam events, that's just what they do. And people are like, oh, yeah, they're flipping. They become immune to it. So we have got to work hard like Cletus does at his Freedom Factory race or any of his Crown Vic race. It's just constant entertainment.
Alan Dietz
Make the All Star race. Crown Vic's make the All Star race. Miatas like they do. They do more. Listen, here's the thing. NASCAR is not alone in struggling with what the All Star race is. Nobody cares about the Pro bowl and now they've made it a flag football game. Nobody watches it. You know, I don't know if they still do it in baseball, but, you know, if you won the, the All Star game, whichever, the American League or the National League got home field advantage in the World Series. I don't know if they still do that or not. And in basketball, it's a joke because nobody plays defense. So the final scores like 250 to 240. So, I mean, it's not just NASCAR struggling with what to do with these All Star.
Herman Schrader
Everybody is, yeah, yeah, maybe we do away with them. Okay, we got a lot to talk about, so we're going to start rolling one last thing until we put this All Star race to bed. $1 million. That is a lot of money, and I know it's a lot of money, but they're paying a million dollars to win at Eldora. Superman. Jonathan Davenport has won a million dollars two times. And I mean this with respect. I done said I know a million dollars is a lot of money, damn it. But has that figure lost its luster? That race has been paying a mil. I don't even know if the outcome's different.
Alan Dietz
Yeah, make it five or ten million dollars in, in crown vix.
Herman Schrader
Don't wreck their ass off. All right, that was just something fun to add in there. Respond here. Everybody has a million dollars to win. They've been paying a million. How long have they been paying a million to win? Can we Google that? How, how long has the All Star race? I'm going say 20 years.
Alan Dietz
I would venture to say it's been at least 20 years.
Herman Schrader
For 20 years, it, it, it should be 1,100,000 to win.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Okay, because we have so much to talk about. We are going to talk about the month of May and then we're going to roll right in to the truck race and of course the O'Reilly race.
Alan Dietz
But 24 years.
Herman Schrader
20. There you go. For 24 years, they've been paying $1 million to win, Jimmy. Just like, you know, it's a million dollars, Jimmy.
Alan Dietz
Johnson was the first to do it, and it was 2003, so it's the last year that Winston had.
Herman Schrader
While we're on that subject, how can you not like Denny Hamlin right now? How can you not like him? 45 years old, loses his father, and then they say, danny, what are you gonna do with that million dollars? He goes, I'm giving it all to my mama. Her house burnt down. She needs new furniture. I mean, man, that's badass.
Alan Dietz
Yeah. He's even making me start to like him.

Okay, the month of May. Let's. This is an audible. We are going to talk about truck and O'Reilly. But the month of May, as we tape this on a Monday, Alex Palo, he wrecked turn one just an hour ago.
Alan Dietz
Oh, did he?
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Alan Dietz
Oh, I didn't know that.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, yeah, he wrecked. I think it was Alex Payo looks. Maybe I'm way wrong, but they wrecked. And this is the month of May, everybody. Catherine Leggy Leg, she's lined up 27th. She's going to try to pull off this double. That's why I'm bringing a month of May up. Here we go.
Alan Dietz
Oh, wow. I'm sorry, I didn't mean is Alexander Rossi Pedo Award. And Romaine.
Herman Schrader
Sorry, I meant Pedo Ward's who I met. Yeah. Thank you.
Alan Dietz
Wow.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, that big wreck three or four pollen. So Katherine Legg qualifies 27th. Her car is locked in the Coke 600. Now all she needs is good weather. And the weather forecast is God awful for Andy.
Alan Dietz
I know it is in Charlotte.
Herman Schrader
Oh. Starting Wednesday night here I woke up at my mom's house Wednesday night. They're talking Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. So Katherine's gonna have to have some luck. And listen, she's a good, you know, she's a good racer in her own right. I don't look at her as one of these, you know, girls.
Alan Dietz
Haha.
Herman Schrader
I look at her as a real race. Hey, the last street course race, I think she ran like 17th.
Alan Dietz
No, she's, she's a real, she's a real racer and her background was street and road racing. So you know, she gets kind of a tough, tough break when she's come to nascar because her finishes in her runs haven't been all that great.
Herman Schrader
What was her last finish?
Alan Dietz
I'll have to look at that. You're talking in cup, right?
Herman Schrader
Yeah, Cup. It was a street course race. I think she was 14th or 17th, but yeah. Okay, let's roll on in while Alan gets that. What was Katherine Leg's last finish? Does she deserve to be a NASCAR? I say 110% and give her a break everybody. But you know, listen, she can drive those road course cars and she knows how to get with it. So I'll be cheering her on. She's in the news. She's in New York. The Indy 500 sent her update New York to help promote the month of May. She's going to try to pull off the double, but right now the weather looks not good.
Alan Dietz
Was terrible for both races. I didn't realize it was that bad for India. It's, it's horrible there too.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Okay, let's start with this truck race. Okay. Kyle Busch makes news for all the right reasons. Kyle Busch wins his 69th truck race. Yeah. So Kyle Busch makes news. His 69th truck win. 100 O'Reilly wins. That's 169. Then you add the cup stuff in there, the championships. This guy is in the hall of fame before they even vote on him. And hey, let me throw this out there before we move to O'Reilly. You know, I, I don't buy into a Richard Petty and what Denny Hamlin said. They think that Kyle Busch is struggling with this new car. I feel like, okay, let's compare it. How's his teammate doing? Is Austin Dillon running better than Kyle Busch in this new Next gen car? Is he?
Alan Dietz
Well, look at Hendrick. I mean if you want to talk about Chevrolet, I didn't realize how horrible they were at Watkins Glenn. I mean they were, were off the charts bad at Watkins Glenn. And, and yesterday, you know, other than I guess Byron, I know he was running in the top five. I think he ended up finishing in the top five. But yeah, I mean, whenever you compare Kyle Busch to, To what Austin Dillon's doing, I mean, it's you. And the last couple of weeks, there has been a big improvement. Since they made that crew chief change for, For Kyle Busch, there's been an improvement. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him keep, you know, running up towards the front here. And if he does that, then he's going to have a shot at winning a race.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, you just got to look at the teammates. That's a great thing about our sport. For, for talking point, you know, for. We're at the, we're at the bar, everybody, we're drinking beer. What's wrong with Kyle Busch? Well, he just won. Yeah, but as in a truck race. Well, how's his teammate doing? So that's the way I judge things. If his teammate Austin Dillon was whipping Kyle's ass every week, then like, okay, well, maybe, but that's not the case. Okay. This O'Reilly race, we're moving to the O'Reilly series. I don't think the lap car. Okay. Justin Allgar is leading the race. The lap car goes to the middle of 1 and 2. Justin Agar goes to the bottom. Corey Day goes at a top. Corey shows why he's the great dirt racer is he's missing the wall on the high side by six inches a foot, takes the lead and wins it. Did you watch the O'Reilly finish?
Alan Dietz
Oh, yeah, yeah, I watched every bit of it. And you know, he found that extreme high groove because he had moved up there and he was going through lap traffic and there was a lap car again that kind of the last moment decided to, to go to the upper groove. So he just went to the outside of that layup car on the upper groove and, and found something up there. So he stuck with it. And, you know, I, I think he was probably going to win that race despite that lap car. But now I will give just an allgaier credit that, that the lap car couldn't have been any more indecisive about where he was going to go. What he should have done was just get all the way down there at the bottom. And that's what I don't understand why some of these guys at the end of the race, just when they see the leaders come and just get out of the way.
Herman Schrader
That's what we did back in my day. We pulled. Just get over.
Alan Dietz
Yeah, get over. Get out of the way, what are you doing? And it. And it wasn't even like anybody was close to that. So he wasn't racing anybody. So I don't know what he was doing. But he sure didn't do himself any favors. I could tell you that.
Herman Schrader
I, I like Ricky Stenhouses social media quote. Corey Day was so high that he was looking down and going no higher. Everybody, Corey, Corey Day, you know, he was very reminiscent of dirt racing, seeking more speed. Corey Day looked like Kyle Larson. And of course we know Kyle Larson is the one that told Rick Hendrick, hey, this Corey Day kid.
Alan Dietz
So he's showing me something.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, in ending deets, I mean, Corey Day has now shown up. That's two wins. I don't think he's run. Do you think he's ran 15 O'Reilly races? How many O'Reilly races has Corey Day run in his career? But he's already won two. I know it's not a lot.
Alan Dietz
I will say I did look up Catherine Legs finishes and they have not. She's only run one cup race this year and that was at Watkins Glen and it was not good. But she has had a Couple of top 20 finishes on road courses.
Herman Schrader
Okay, so Dietz is going to look up how many O'Reilly races has Corey Day run? And just like Jeff Gordon and everybody did, he did some wrecking running to some people and then they figured it out. But we all knew the talent was there.
Alan Dietz
26.
Herman Schrader
At 26.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
He's run 26 races and he's already won two.
Alan Dietz
And don't forget, it was the beginning of the year. On this show we were talking about people complaining about Corey Day causing wrecks.
Herman Schrader
Hold on. Here's the other thing you got to put in there. He never ran asphalt in his life. He went from dirt racing to asphalt. They put in some late model stock races. Yeah, I mean, I'm sorry. As Kyle Petty would say, everybody, I'm sorry, but here's the deal. The kid has showed up with zero asphalt experience until like a year ago they start giving him his reps. And to me, the O'Reilly series is the second highest level of racing in NASCAR.
Alan Dietz
Let me ask you, you started out as a pavement racer. Pavement, you know, late models and stuff like that. And then you got into O'Reilly and in the cup and then you got into dirt racing. After your NASCAR career, what have you learned that you feel like he. Had you been doing that when you were a teenager, do you think it would have made a difference in. In your NASCAR career if you'd have been a dirt racer as a kid to.
Herman Schrader
To search things out and use more room on the racetrack. When I grew up in asa, and in asa, you chop the corners, and you had to be in this groove. The thing that dirt racing taught me is that there's so much room on the racetrack if you slow up, start. Start letting the car do what it wants to do, start trying to find multiple grooves.
Alan Dietz
But do you think it would have made a difference in your NASCAR career?
Herman Schrader
Oh, yeah.
Alan Dietz
Yeah, I do.
Herman Schrader
Because these cars, you know, in nascar, the cars are so heavy compared to the short track. It's like saying, okay, Bubba Pollard, Ty Majeski, these guys win everything in super late Models. And I think Ty Majeski and Bubba Pollard are some of the best. And I would expected Bubba Pollard, Ty Majeski to be cup superstars, but I feel like, because they spent their whole lives in the lightweight late models pavement, you know, I just. I grew up in ASA three years running this groove, and if you don't run that groove real good, you're in trouble. And, you know, Mark Martin started on dirt, and I think that's what helped Mark.
Alan Dietz
Rusty ran a little dirt, didn't he?
Herman Schrader
Rusty was just flat good. He. He ran Usec dirt racing against A.J. foyt. You know, Rusty ran the Milwaukee Mile on asphalt, then he'd go to du quoin on dirt. Rusty just damn good, brother. Rusty got a boatload of talent. There are some people that are just good. They just got a God gift. But Corey Day, all right, he has showed up everybody, and he will sweep the racetrack up, and that's the point we'll try to make. If he ain't run good on the bottom, there's a lot more grooves, and it is very Kyle Larson like.
Alan Dietz
And I'll say it again, and I've said it before, while we were trying to have Schrader on the show four hours ago,
Herman Schrader
all day, everybody. We tried all day to get later. I just couldn't get.
Alan Dietz
And he's tried to. That O'Reilly car is the best car NASCAR's got in their top three series. And if there was a. I don't know if. If you could take that car and have more horsepower, you know, give them 750, 900 horsepower. If. If you see a big difference, because you remember when the bush cars went from V6 to V8s, other than the wheelbase and the weight, you couldn't really tell a lot of difference between a cup car and what was a bush car back Then other than the horsepower and the wheelbase and I wonder if you could take that O'Reilly car today and do something like that and make it the next cup car.
Herman Schrader
We are going to do a whole show on that subject. It's right here. It's right at my throat right now. I am so tired of people saying that I love you, but what are we going to do? Everybody right now make O'Reilly cars to cup cars. I hear everybody saying it, but I'm a realist. It's like here. Okay, everybody, stop the season. Stop the season. All O'Reilly cars are cup cars.
Alan Dietz
No, I don't. You don't. I don't mean that. I'm saying if, if the, when you have the next generation cup car come out, is there, is there something you can take from that Xfinity car with the body and, or whatever they've done with it that, that you could emulate and maybe make that into the next
Herman Schrader
cup car, that next gen car? Have you ever, have you ever went to where they're. You build them? Have you ever. Have you ever looked at a next gen car?
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Close.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Okay. They don't even, they're not even in the realm.
Alan Dietz
Right.
Herman Schrader
Like, like an O'Reilly cars over here and the next gen cars over here.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
You can't use the damn brake rotor or brake caliper. I mean, they are so different that it hurt the used part industry. You know, you used to drive around all the back roads here in North Carolina and you know, some old guy, he'd buy all the old parts from the cup teams and then he'd sell them to ARCA teams or, you know, O'Reilly teams. Nothing. When I say nothing. I mean maybe the mirror and I don't even know if a mirror. Next gen car is on an island on its own.
Alan Dietz
Well, it's more like an IMSA car.
Herman Schrader
Yes.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Yes. And the brakes are like bigger than your body. So. So the next gen car's got different wheels, it's got different tires. It's.
Alan Dietz
So you're saying that nascar, if they did something like what I'm talking about, they would be going backwards. Can't do those days are over now.
Herman Schrader
Can't even do it. Yeah, they just, they'd have to lose. It wouldn't be millions. It probably close to a billion dollars. Okay, let's say we took the next gen car and we scrapped it. Let's say we did that. I'm talking the motor mounts on the motors are different than O'Reilly. I mean, I Mean, it's a, It's. For Christ's sake. It's electronic. The ignition is different than.
Alan Dietz
So when NASCAR made that move, they cast a lot. And that was, that was. We're going this way and we're from here forward.
Herman Schrader
Yep. Efi. Electronic fuel ignition. Right. Ain't that what it's called?
Alan Dietz
Jackson? Yeah.
Herman Schrader
The O'Reilly still has carburetors. So, I mean, it's, it's not even the same car.
Alan Dietz
Same with the same carburetor.
Herman Schrader
Same tires.
Alan Dietz
Tires, everything. Yeah.
Herman Schrader
So I get aggravated. I get aggravated because. And it's. It's me, everybody. It's not you. It's my fault. I hear you, but when you know so much, it's just like, stop saying that. We can't. We can't do it. It's. It's a moot point.
Alan Dietz
It's moot because you'd be throwing away billions of dollars that they've invested in this thing. Yeah, the whole thing's totally gone.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. You don't have to agree with me, but I just wanted to let you know, it's one thing I learned about this whole platform. The older I get, I've learned that it's okay, you don't like vanilla, you like chocolate. And that's, that's, that's. When you get older like us, it's like, okay, Alan, you, you know, I like vanilla, you have chocolate. But I hear you, but it just, it's never going to happen unless they. Boy, I don't want to be around when they announce if they can, because right now these teams are already paying for the rule changes. You know, NASCAR is not going here, put these parts on. NASCAR's saying we're going to change, and now you got to buy this part.
Alan Dietz
Well, no, I thought you, I thought you were going to say, I don't want to be here whenever they go away from gasoline powered engines.
Herman Schrader
Oh, God. Oh, God.

Liberty Mutual Advertiser (Bird Guy)
Potential savings vary, subject to terms, conditions and availability.
Herman Schrader
Allstate North American Insurance Company and Affiliates, Northbrook, Illinois. Did you see where the. I don't even know how to say the word. The autonomous vehicle, the Waymo brand. You know what I'm gonna say?
Alan Dietz
Yes.
Herman Schrader
The electric vehicle, the autonomous car, it's got a glitch. 50. 50 of the vehicles ended up in a cul de sac. I think Atlanta.
Alan Dietz
It was Atlanta.
Herman Schrader
But. But they, but they didn't run into each other. They turned themselves around. It was an electronical computer glitch. 50 cars went straight to a cul de sac in a subdivision.
Alan Dietz
If they don't have a. Like, if somebody's not reserved them, the car's got to have. I guess it's got to have something to do so they don't just go and sit somewhere waiting on a call. So whenever they don't have a reservation, they end up in this cul de sac. We rode one in Atlanta, me and my family, we went down there on vacation a few weeks ago and we were going to go from downtown Atlanta to the zoo. And I was like, we are absolutely taking one of these cars, these driverless cars.
Herman Schrader
And it was strange.
Alan Dietz
It was the strange. I was taking pictures. What I wanted to do was take my 12 year old and put him in the driver's seat. So people would start looking and being like, this kid's driving what's going on? But it wouldn't let you do that. You couldn't put anybody in the driver's seat.
Herman Schrader
Man, oh man. Did you see the big pit cart? Okay, everybody, there's a horse track inside the Dover Speedway. And the horse track sits up high and the truck series has their tractor trailers inside the horse track. Well, they unload their crash cart, their pit cart and this monster pit cart loses its brakes.
Alan Dietz
And it's that. I mean, one person's not going to stop it. People don't realize how big these things are. Now it.
Herman Schrader
They lose control and I'm trying to find his name here, I have it on my. Well, no, I forgot where I was going to put it. What was the man's name that saved. Okay, so here's what happens, everybody. Amanda Busick, Fox TV reporter, sideline reporter. Basically Pitts, she's going to be killed or maimed. And this spire,
Alan Dietz
Donovan Williams.
Herman Schrader
Thank you.
Alan Dietz
A tire carrier for Spire Motorsports jumped in front of a 4,000 pound runaway pit cart.
Herman Schrader
Donovan Williams. And let me tell you what, there's more to the story. He got. He roughed up pretty bad.
Alan Dietz
He got hurt real bad.
Herman Schrader
She recognizes this. Amanda Busick abuse. She recognizes that this man saved her life. Say his name one more time.
Alan Dietz
Donovan Williams, a tire carrier for Spire.
Herman Schrader
He goes to the hospital. She goes to the hospital and thanks him. So to all the fans out there, when you get that hot pass, remember that this is, as Turtle man would say, live action. You know, it's live action.
Alan Dietz
Everybody show.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. If you get a hot pass at a NASCAR track, remember there's things going on, so look out, you know.
Alan Dietz
You know, one thing about Turtle Man.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Alan Dietz
He's. He's the. He's the personification of Hold My beer.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. God, that guy puts his hand down in the water, just grabs a turtle that snap your hand right off. Okay, These are bits and pieces, everybody. Clint Boyer, Harvick. I love, I love what Kyle Grayson is doing with this superstar truck. They're trying to help the truck series out. They're trying to help nascar and they're like, hey, we're going to put Harvick in, but this week we're going to put Clint Boyer in. Boyer is a gangster. He's up for anything. But it just shows everybody. You can't sit out six, 10 years and think you're going to come back. This is all for the sport. Harvick's up there. Harvick says, all right, under the caution. Clinton, I'm going to need you to start catching the people in front of you. But I'm laughing. But Dietz, you know I always brag on you as a super fan. You can see, I mean, you just can't. I mean, look what happened to Jimmy Johnson. You can't go off a couple years and think you're going to come right back into the Cup Series.
Alan Dietz
Think about when Dale Jr. Got out of the 88 because of the division stuff that was going on. So Jeff Gordon had retired at the end of the season. And then they put Jeff in the 88 while. While Dale Junior's getting straightened out. And. And so Jeff Gordon had probably been out of the car maybe for 10 races, maybe 12 races. I mean, that's how long. That was the only number of races that he missed. He didn't do anything in that car. I thought whenever he got in that car, he'd go right back to running up front. And he didn't. He didn't. I mean, he did all right, but he didn't do. He didn't set the world on fire. Same as when they took Kyle Larson out to 42. They put Matt Kins within it. I'm like, oh, Matt Kins is going to tear it up out there. And he didn't do much.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And I. I said this earlier in the show. That's why what Denny Hamlin is doing at 45, you know, listen, Harvick has been preaching it. Kevin Harvick is saying, listen, I'm telling you, the sim matters, you know, the engineers, the studying of the tapes, it's just insane. So anyway, a shout out to Attaboy. To Clint Boyer for doing it.
Alan Dietz
Yeah. And he did good.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. But it doesn't mean you're going to go up there and take the lead.
Alan Dietz
No, he. Him doing good. Was 17th.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Right. And. All right, everybody, do we have jokes?
Alan Dietz
I have jokes. I've had jokes for hours now because I had them from this morning when we were trying to get Schrader on.
Herman Schrader
My wife is wondering where the hell I've been. I've been up here since nine o'clock today. And of course we've been trying to get Schrader. No life probably for four to five hours.
Alan Dietz
Okay.
Herman Schrader
We love Kenny Schrader.
Alan Dietz
Okay. I told my wife I was building a model of Mount Everest. She asked, is it to scale?
Herman Schrader
Okay. That was the one that should have went over my head.
Alan Dietz
It has gone over my head. I'm still trying to figure it out, but I do. I understand this next one to whoever stole my camouflage jacket. In flip flops, you can hide, but you can't run because you flip flops. All right, and the last one, I just found out that. I just found out the company that produces yardsticks won't be making them any longer.
Herman Schrader
That's a good one. That's old one, though. I've heard that before, but it's a good one. That's what they call an oldie but goodie. Nobody but good job dates. You did a hell of a job.
Alan Dietz
Thank you.
Herman Schrader
Thank. Thank you so much. All right, everybody. We try to keep the format rolling. So Thursday. This Thursday, everybody. Today's Wednesday. Tomorrow, May 21st. RB stage right here at Dale Juniors Junior Motorsports. We're going to start out with all the shows starting out early in the morning. Go on the website. I don't have it in front of me. I'm out of kilter. Here I am at dirty Mode. Yeah, Dirty me Mode. I could holler to Mike Davis Right now. But remember all the shop tours. But it's going to start out in the morning live. SiriusXM radio, May 21, right here at Junior Motorsports and live on SiriusXM. And I'm gonna be part of that. Mike Davis and myself, I can tell
Alan Dietz
you a lot about it. Nine to five Thursday at Junior Motorsports headquarters, scheduled drivers Dale Junior, Justin Allgaier, Connor Zilli, Carson Kwaple, Sammy Smith, Raja Carruth, Lee Pulliam, and Jake Finch. You'll need to secure wristband to participate in the driver autograph lines. And. And then as you said on the stage, you guys have got a bunch
Herman Schrader
of shows and they're live. So that makes a difference because they're airing on SiriusXM.
Alan Dietz
So you can say whatever you want to.
Herman Schrader
Not getting excited about it. Yeah. Mike Davis gonna announce a new show. That's all I can say. It's exciting.
Alan Dietz
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
And they're gonna. We're gonna do that during the. Mike Davis, Kenny Wallace, Herman Schrader, your show deets should come down here.
Alan Dietz
I don't know, maybe. Tell him if he needs anybody to help out on that new show, you know somebody.
Herman Schrader
I'll tell him. I'll tell him. It is exciting. So we're. We are going to announce that on the stage there. All right, everybody, remember it is the month of May. This is a really big week. All the garages are open. Come take advantage of it. The NASCAR hall of fame, all the restaurants, and of course, once again, all the race shops.
Alan Dietz
Hey, before you say goodbye, Schrader's still racing this week up in Canada, right?
Herman Schrader
Yeah, he's at Merit right now, but I don't. I don't. I think he's starting to head back home.
Alan Dietz
Okay. Okay. So he's finishing up.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, he's finishing up. No doubt. And. But you know him. As he heads home, he'll probably find another racetrack. He starts tweaking when he's not racing. You know, Schrader's got a book out called Gotta Race and the. In the race, the race, the book, Gotta Race, documenting Kenny Schrader's life. It is about his addiction to racing. Like, if it's true. And, you know, I say this to Kenny, if he's not racing, he's. He truly feels weird. He'll get. He'll get moody. I'm like, what's wrong with you? What's wrong with you? Why you so mean? I just need to get to that quarter mile dirt track.
Alan Dietz
He starts biting his nails.
Herman Schrader
Oh, and he ain't got any nails. You know, he doesn't bite his fingernails. Schrader does not. He's got an addiction to fingernail clippers. And he keeps those things manicured, but, I mean, they are down to the nubs.
Alan Dietz
Wow, he's a lot more interesting than I thought.
Herman Schrader
Oh, yeah. All right, everybody, remember Herman Schrader. You can find it in two places. Date: May 20, 2026
Hosts: Kenny Wallace (“Herman”), Alan Dietz (filling in for Ken Schrader)
Producer: Dirty Mo Media, SiriusXM
This episode dives deep into the fallout from the NASCAR All-Star Race at Dover, with Herm (Kenny Wallace) joined by Alan Dietz in the absence of Ken Schrader (who was “lost in Canada” without WiFi). The duo tackles the debate over the All-Star Race’s location and format, Denny Hamlin’s evergreen competitiveness, crowd size at Dover, ideas for revitalizing the All-Star event, and a roundhouse of racing stories from across NASCAR and beyond. The show carries its signature irreverence and humor, blending honest racing analysis with storytelling and Midwestern banter.
