Herman Schrader on the Dirty Mo media platform from the middle of America in
Kenny Wallace
St. Louis, Missouri, starts right now. The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media. I'm looking at Kenny Schrader right now.
Rusty Wallace
Did you drink during the show?
T-Mobile Ad Disclaimer
I mean.
T-Mobile Representative
Yeah.
T-Mobile Customer
You.
Herman Schrader
How in the world did we agree to do a podcast?
Rusty Wallace
I like spending time with you.
Kenny Wallace
That makes me happy.
Rusty Wallace
Well, it's all about making you happy.
Herman Schrader
We're always honest.
Rusty Wallace
We don't know that we're not in trouble already. And sometimes truthful. What makes you think you're not a little different?
Kenny Wallace
You're weird. Herman Schreib, trainer.
Rusty Wallace
Well, everybody's home. At least I think we're where we're supposed to be.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, you and I have been gone a long time, Dietz.
Kenny Wallace
Were you at home this week?
Deets Arnett
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Just that simple, huh?
Kenny Wallace
Well, Kenny, we've got a lot to talk about.
Herman Schrader
And deets. I'd like to hear your perspective from a fan's standpoint and.
Kenny Wallace
But before we go to Indy and
Herman Schrader
boy, there's a lot to talk about. Kenny, what did you do over the weekend?
Rusty Wallace
Well, all I did was went to Toledo. Well, we were. We were up in Mexico. We were up in Canada.
Kenny Wallace
Same thing.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah, we were up in Canada. Wednesday I rode motorcyc. That was fun. And you won the race. Kicked their butts. Great. Made you happy. Great crowd for the World Outlaws. They got rained out Tuesday. They had late models this sport class at Ashweigan. We ran the modifieds with them Wednesday. Fantastic crowd, Great race. They ran all over the racetrack. Top, bottom, middle
Deets Arnett
there.
Rusty Wallace
Wednesday. Then I went to Toledo, run the figure eight school bus race, and we were leading at the end of that. So that worked out. Then rode your motorcycle home and was going to Moberly Missouri. And they canceled it. So we was headed to Springfield in the ramp truck. And the ramp truck laid down.
Kenny Wallace
Oh, Lord.
Rusty Wallace
So we did not race Saturday night. So that's. That hurt.
Kenny Wallace
Well, Kenny, I want to talk about
Herman Schrader
a couple things you said right there just because I found it amazing.
Kenny Wallace
So we all know that you go up to Oshwegon.
Herman Schrader
That's big for you with Federated Auto Parts.
Kenny Wallace
And it was a Federated Auto Parts race.
Herman Schrader
But man, I was amazed because you've always taught me.
Kenny Wallace
Sold out.
Herman Schrader
Shoulder to shoulder. Why do you think that it was shoulder to shoulder?
Kenny Wallace
And at 9:30 at night, they.
Herman Schrader
They sold the grandstands out. But at 9:30 at night, there was
Kenny Wallace
a line to get into the pits.
Herman Schrader
Why do you think Osh Wigan was such a success?
Rusty Wallace
Well, the, you know, the two major sprint car series, World Outlaws and High Limits, don't get north of the border really at all. Now they get close. They go up there to Ransomville and they run sprint cars at Ashweak and every week. So you have a good sprint car crowd, a good base. They're having a great year. The track's doing good, but it's just, you know, World Outlaws would do that every place they go, you know, they have those type of crowds. So it's just good to see a lot of good races. Toledo for the bus race had people. The ARCA and truck race at IRP Friday night had people. Our Shark Tracks are doing fine. Weekly shows are a challenge, but you know, the specials are, are. Appear to be doing pretty damn good.
Deets Arnett
And I'll say on Canada, I, I don't understand why NASCAR has not gotten a cup race up there. They should have been running cup races up there for 15 years now. And I'm not sure why that can't get worked out or figured out, but hopefully it will because they got. There's some great race fans up there.
Kenny Wallace
Listen, I gotta add to that, you're
Herman Schrader
right, because like Kenny said, we were both up there and I had several fans come up to me, when are we gonna get NASCAR up here?
Kenny Wallace
I'm like, well, you already got the
Herman Schrader
trucks and no cup, so.
Kenny Wallace
Yep, I agree with you. Anyway, wonderful time.
Herman Schrader
I'm like, Kenny had a great time at Ashwegan.
Kenny Wallace
Then I went to Fairberry and I
Herman Schrader
was no good, man. I just was laid over on the right rear. I needed a new setup and I just couldn't find it.
Kenny Wallace
But Fairbury was wonderful.
Herman Schrader
And we'll talk about more about dirt racing later on.
Kenny Wallace
So that's what we did.
Herman Schrader
Everybody over the weekend. And now we have got to face the piper.
Kenny Wallace
First of all, let's just say this congratulations to Corey hine from Marietta, Georgia. 24 years old, wins the Brickyard 400.
Herman Schrader
Okay, we're going to talk about whether it was a good race or not a bad race because it's overwhelmingly not good. We're going to acknowledge that.
Kenny Wallace
But Kenny that start, this 24 year old kid, he gets a big push from Joey Logano. On the pole was Denny Hamlin.
Herman Schrader
Christopher Bell did not get hooked up with Denny Hamlin.
Kenny Wallace
So this race is whoever got out front.
Herman Schrader
But man, this kid, this 24 year old kid and Joey Logano they hooked
Kenny Wallace
up and that was it. Corey Hine was super loose. Tell me what you thought.
Rusty Wallace
Corey Heim won it out in California street course, right?
Kenny Wallace
Yep.
Rusty Wallace
Okay. And any wins here? How many races is he run now? Yeah, it's like hey boys, you better wake up because you got another guy getting ready to screw up your days next year. You know, I mean the kids done a phenomenal job. Is neat to see. Was, was, was surprised yesterday that when the, the second place car or the, the car that was behind any car that was behind another one couldn't, couldn't run up there and, and get on them, they couldn't. I don't know what, what really brought that. Now it'd be simple to say here that oh guess what, we need a different arrow package for Indianapolis. We need to maybe put the wicker bill. Remember when we had those on top of the roof and stuff. Hell, anybody could run up on anybody and, and catch. But Indianapolis has never been a track that made for good, good side by side racing. It don't have good side by side racing with the Indy cars. They're better because they have all the downforce. They're stuck to the ground. But you know, it's just not a track that's warrants good side by side racing. So to have a race that's not real exciting at Indy does not come as a big surprise.
Deets Arnett
Freighter, did you run, did you do that test up at Indian 92?
Rusty Wallace
No, no, I was getting something operate. Didn't get to go.
Deets Arnett
The reason, the reason I ask and I know why they did what they did at Indianapolis. But when they did that test in 92 they still had the apron. That was before they had the grass and the pit lane. Do you and I know why they did it again? When the Indy cars would go down on that flat, it made for a terrible angle going into the wall. But do you Think that that would have helped stock cars or wouldn't matter?
Rusty Wallace
Oh, that's. That's about my. That's above my. It's been so long since I've been there and made a lapse. So, yeah, I mean, anytime you've got more racetrack and it's wider and you could chop that corner, it probably help. But that track, you know, it's main deal. I mean, they have all kinds of events there all year long, but the big one is the Indianapolis 500 for the Indy cars. And that's what, you know, that's what they need to. Need to focus on.
Kenny Wallace
Okay, so this is what it is.
Herman Schrader
I am.
Kenny Wallace
I've always been impressed that you, Kenny
Herman Schrader
Schrader, you protect things that need to be protected, and then you say what needs to be said.
Kenny Wallace
What I mean is that I know that your first love was open will
Herman Schrader
midgets, and I know that there's pictures out there of you going to Indy.
Kenny Wallace
You are. You race everything. So with that being said, I want
Herman Schrader
to thank you for saying what you said, because that's a hard thing to say.
Kenny Wallace
Now I'm going to.
Herman Schrader
I'm going to ruffle some feathers. But I mean, this nice also, I know it's controversial. So this racetrack is legendary. It is right there with Milwaukee, one of the oldest racetracks in America. It's heartfelt, it's indie. I get it. But it is not a good racetrack.
Deets Arnett
It is not for stock cars.
Kenny Wallace
Well, period.
Deets Arnett
I mean, Indy cars have had some pretty good races there in the last 15 years.
Herman Schrader
Okay.
Rusty Wallace
They've been running there for over 100.
Kenny Wallace
Right.
Herman Schrader
My point is this. And I want to drive this home. This is a historical racetrack. It is very hard to badmouth a historical love of the sport.
Kenny Wallace
And you're right.
Herman Schrader
The IndyCar races are incredible there.
Kenny Wallace
They got it figured out because they've
Herman Schrader
been running there 100 years. NASCAR has been running there only so long. We're not supposed to be there.
Kenny Wallace
So with me making that statement and Kenny, this is.
Herman Schrader
I'm going to give you your information because I love it that you started this. Jeff Glock, take us to poll. Only 23% of the people were entertained because whoever got out front, it was like this.
Kenny Wallace
It was the most insane thing I've
Herman Schrader
seen in racing in a long time.
Kenny Wallace
You looked at Ty Gibbs, he led the whole damn race. I mean, whoever came out of it, it was like a chess match.
Herman Schrader
It was like an Indy car race. Whoever was the strategist, you know, let's use Indy car names here. You have the. You have the crew chief, and you have the strategist. The strategist's job is to strategize you getting out first. At the very end of the race,
Kenny Wallace
whoever was leading was in good shape.
Rusty Wallace
That's way. That's way above me. That's. That's way above me. Now I'm gonna back up just a little bit. Indy's not. You know, Indy by no means is terrible racetrack. It's the most famous racetrack in the world. You know, in my mind, it is. But, you know, our cars haven't put on the type of show that our cars have typically put on at other places. So is it something we need to work on? I mean, when we first went there in 94 or 5, they didn't open the infield because they didn't want more people there than the Indianapolis 500, you know, and now something I did see yesterday, and I don't have any numbers, but in my mind, there's more people that have been there in the last couple years, which made me happy, but they didn't get to see what they wanted. As far as the pole.
Deets Arnett
Well, there. There's a few things, you know, until IndyCar reunified, I really and honestly think the Brickyard 400 was bigger than the Indy 500. I really do. I. I think from about 94 to 2007 or 8, basically, whenever that Goodyear debacle happened with the tire there, that's the first thing. The second thing is, is if you think about it, Pocono, New Hampshire, flat race tracks, Gateway, that. That cup cars run it. They don't. You don't typically go back and think about how great those races were. Stock cars are better on bank racetracks. And I think that this car in particular, for whatever reason, the arrow with it seems like it's worse than anywhere. And I think it's a combination of the car and the bigger tire. And I'm like, you. I'm like, if. If you run it, Andy, maybe. I mean, I really think they need to look at these workers and roof rails and things like that. And the last thing that I'll add, because we had this conversation last week, you know, has NASCAR's time at Indy pass and Schrader, you were exactly right. You said 70,000 people at that racetrack. It's going to look like it was empty. There were over three times as many people at Indianapolis yesterday than there was at North Wilkesboro. But North Wilkesboro was a huge success.
Kenny Wallace
That's where we are, boys. And, you know, it's like I always
Herman Schrader
tell there, I saw Larry Mack at North Wilkesboro. I said, larry, I use some of your phrases.
Kenny Wallace
He goes, you do?
Herman Schrader
I said, yeah, we use that one.
Kenny Wallace
You said, well, we've done beat this like a horse. So that's what it was.
Herman Schrader
Everybody. It's a difficult situation.
Rusty Wallace
Not every baseball game is good. Not every football game is good. Not every movie is good. Not every basketball game is good. You know, this wasn't one of our more exciting ones now, but that's what
Deets Arnett
makes good races good, is the bad ones.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah, right. Yeah, it was pretty. It was there at the, the last 15 laps when Lugano is creeping up a 10th here, 10th year. And all of a sudden he's the same distance behind Denny, that Denny is behind the six, seven or bail. Yeah. Or behind Bell. That Bell is behind six, seven car. And it's like, oh, now you know, six, seven cars. Gotta be thinking six, seven, right? He's gotta be thinking, boy, let. Let Logano get up on Bell, take care of that. So I'm free. But it just. He got pretty good there at the end. But it was no side by side. It, it doesn't always happen.
Deets Arnett
And don't Forget that the 87 and the 92 Winston is kind of what ruined the all star race. Because NASCAR's tried to get that ever since. And no matter what they do, they can't make it happen. And it's, it's the same with the, with the points. You know, that 92 points battle at Atlanta and, and probably the closest we've had today. It was, I think it was 2010 or 11, whatever year Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards tied and, and Stuart got it by virtue of tiebreakers. You, when you try to manufacture something so hard and don't just let it happen naturally is probably not going to turn out as good as. As what you would hope for. So.
Kenny Wallace
Okay, let's. We'll end it like this.
Herman Schrader
Isn't it amazing that last two weeks have been so unbelievable?
Kenny Wallace
Awesome.
Herman Schrader
We love nascar. And then this week, this is life. And, you know, this is life.
Kenny Wallace
And we go to the movies every Tuesday.
Herman Schrader
We got a movie group.
Kenny Wallace
And when we see a bad movie, we go, well, we went to the movies. It's hard for everything to be perfect. Okay, listen, let's switch up.
Herman Schrader
You can go to Corey Heim. Let's talk as much about Corey Haim as we did a bad race. You know, the bad race was, you know, the fans saying, you know, only 23% like the race. So we acknowledge that Everybody, we acknowledge it.

Herman Schrader
Now it's equally as exciting to see how great this Corey Heim is.
Kenny Wallace
Now I'm going to be the person
Herman Schrader
that, you know, overdoes it because I my mama said you always overdo everything.
Kenny Wallace
So I'm going to overdo it.
Herman Schrader
Corey Heim, 24 years old, not as young as Jeff Gordon was, but they held him back.
Kenny Wallace
I feel like Corey Heim was unrealistically.
Herman Schrader
He's like, why is this kid not in cup? We've been saying this for two years.
Kenny Wallace
So they're like, well, let's get him
Herman Schrader
a car out there. Let's, let's just put together a car and he wins. Like you said, Kenny, he wins at Naval Base Coronado on a road course.
Kenny Wallace
I mean, this kid to me is a delayed Jeff Gordon.
Herman Schrader
He should have been a Cup a long time ago. This is where we're at.
Kenny Wallace
And I was in that car with him, Kenny. I mean you could tell that thing wanted to get loose off those corners.
Herman Schrader
It was twitching. And he said after the race, Corey Han said, I've never focused as hard. I mentally wore out feeding the car, not moving the wheel.
Kenny Wallace
So I feel like a star is born. And I love it that his name is Corey Heim.
Herman Schrader
He's got a little thing. It's Heim time.
Kenny Wallace
He wins the race.
Herman Schrader
He points to his wrist.
Kenny Wallace
Just fun, entertaining. So I bragged on Corey Heim.
Herman Schrader
Kenny, what do you got on Corey Heim? What do you see?
Rusty Wallace
I don't think a star is born. I think it just got brighter.
Herman Schrader
Okay.
Rusty Wallace
I think he's been a star. It just got brighter. So like I say, it's gonna, he's. He's gonna, he's gonna screw up a lot of people's Sundays. He's gonna aggravate.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Rusty Wallace
Because he's gonna be a pain because you know, to the, to the other drivers because he just. It's just a whole nother solid team. Just a whole nother solid effort that is going to be out there. They have to race with every week next year.
Kenny Wallace
Hey D, let's include you in this
Herman Schrader
year because it is a fan perspective.
Kenny Wallace
Does 23:11. What are they going to do? Are they. I mean to me, here's my opinion. You have to take that team. You have to take Booty. You have to take those guys and
Herman Schrader
make them the team.
Kenny Wallace
I don't think Corey Haim and Booty Barker. We don't go to the Raleigh Herbs team because you know, Corey Heim is
Herman Schrader
taking over Raleigh Herbs. You know, what's, what's Danny Hamlin and Michael Jordan going to do?
Kenny Wallace
My opinion is, you know, there's going to be some hurt feelings. I think you got to take that put together team that's not a real team. You know, we're going to get Corey time. Now what do you do? Do you take this team and make it the real team?
Deets Arnett
Well, I agree and I disagree with you the first off. I disagree on that. He should have been running cup years ago. I think that the way that this is all laid out has been perfect. And don't forget at the beginning of this year we were like why has Corey Heim not got a full time ride anything? And then we find out there was some personality clashes with, with Gibbs and, and he'd never drive a Gibbs car and yada, yada, yada, whatever that was about. What I do agree with you about is, and I was thinking this exact same thing. You know, as much credit as we give Corey Hamm and I am going to give him a ton of credit but you know, in a world with all these new, this new generation, you got Booty Barker out there who had been with. With just underfunded teams throughout the years and never got a chance to shine. And if you think about it at Coronado and at Indianapolis, Pit strategy was as big as anything that Corey Haim did. So I'm like you, I think if, if I'm Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, I don't know. And, and I also wonder. I mean it may sound Trivial. But I think this 67 is his number. I mean, I, you know, he's, he's kind of taking it over from Buddy Arrington. It only took 40 years for somebody to get in 60 to get into 67 and do something with it.
Kenny Wallace
But
Deets Arnett
I'm like you. But see, I don't know if that's what Booty wants. I think that's what the problem's going to be is Booty at a place now where he don't want to be on the road every week.
Rusty Wallace
I got to drive for Buddy Arrington one time.
Tostitos Commercial Narrator
You did?
Rusty Wallace
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Was that a Richmond?
Rusty Wallace
Yeah. It wasn't meant to be.
Herman Schrader
Good stuff.
Deets Arnett
Oh, that's right. It was that 67 car with Folgers decals on it, wasn't it?
Rusty Wallace
Yeah, because we, we had a little issue during qualifying and we missed the show. And the 25, it was first year I drove it. 25 didn't have a provisional because it was the 35 the year before the full time car and they had switched number back to the 25. So we were, we were out and Buddy let us use his car, his number.
Kenny Wallace
Switching subjects though, that was one of
Herman Schrader
the biggest weeks and shocks in NASCAR history because didn't Richard Petty missed the race too.
Deets Arnett
That was in Charlotte and he. It's a similar situation to where it was an independent team. It was DK Orchestra car. So you got this green six with a STP on it. Yeah, because he didn't have a provisional.
Herman Schrader
And then years later we go to Atlanta and Jeff Burton misses the race.
Kenny Wallace
And yeah, that's when the car count got so big that qualifying was everything. And then big sponsors were going home
Herman Schrader
and NASCAR said, okay, we got to fix this.
Deets Arnett
So that's eventually champions provisional.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And then eventually that's where we are today.
Kenny Wallace
You know, it was the start of. Oh my God, look what can happen. So good stuff, Kenny.
Rusty Wallace
Hey, do you know that. Do you know if Indy still pays like it did before compared to other races?
Kenny Wallace
Yeah. And that's another thing to change, you know, you know, they got, you know,
Herman Schrader
that was so much fun back in the day.
Kenny Wallace
You could open the paper up and go, Schrader won $200,000. And look, you know, why did the
Herman Schrader
guy intend win more money than the guy in seventh?
Kenny Wallace
Well, because he's on the plan. And yeah, we just don't, we don't
Herman Schrader
get to see that anymore. That kind of a.
Deets Arnett
Here, I will tell you this says while the exact individual payout for Haim is private, the total race purse for The Cut Series event was an all time high. $11,233,037.
Rusty Wallace
That's right up there.
Kenny Wallace
Okay. Is it, is it fun? Do you all, are you all happy with Corey Hine?
Herman Schrader
It's pointing to his wrist. I personally love it because I think,
Kenny Wallace
I think it's a little bit of, you know, he's a real racer, he's super mature and say, oh, it's kind
Herman Schrader
of cool to see a mature young guys soft spoken Heim time. I love that.
Rusty Wallace
I think it's cool.
Deets Arnett
I'll tell you, I'll tell you what else I love and I know I'm jumping. You got Carson Hosavar fans.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah.
Deets Arnett
You got Corey Haim fans. You got Dale Earnhardt fans, you got Daryl Waltrip fans. I think that this is something that's great. I am so glad that both of them unapologetically don't like each other and let everybody know that they don't like each other. And I think that we are probably seeing a change in the guard. You know, like when, when Jeff Gordon and Bobby Labonte came along, you know, you were shifting away from, from Earnhardt and Rusty Wallace, it overlapped, but you were, you were moving to another phase. And we do this in this sport and you know, these are two guys that if everything goes the way that it should, I mean, they're going to be around for the next 25 years. And Corey Haim fans are going to hate Carson Hosvar and Carson Joseph. Our fans are going to hate Corey Hamm.
Rusty Wallace
It's perfect.
Kenny Wallace
And Kenny. Yeah, Kenny. And the media is the one that
Herman Schrader
instigates all this stuff.
Kenny Wallace
They're the one, they're the ones that ask those questions. It's not like these drivers just respond, say things. It's, it's the media people that go, hey, he flipped you off. What do you think about that?
Herman Schrader
So is it okay for the media to keep it stirred up? Kenny?
Rusty Wallace
Well, if you take, if you take all our, whatever you call the, the rating, the approval rating for the year. Yeah, an average amount, this 23% isn't going to kill us.
Herman Schrader
No, good point. Yeah.
Kenny Wallace
We're better.
Herman Schrader
We're better than we are.
Rusty Wallace
We want it. We don't, we don't want it. That's not what we're after. And I'm sure that we'll look at it, think about it, talk to the teams, figure if there's something simple that they can do, can't reinvent the wheel for this place, but I'm sure it'll get looked at and addressed and see what they can do. I don't see us not going back
Deets Arnett
well, and that, that's kind of where I was going is again.
Kenny Wallace
Oh, you want to go for the Juggler? Did you can the race?
Deets Arnett
No, no, no, no. I, There was a time that I, I thought that maybe that should happen.
Tostitos Commercial Narrator
Yeah.
Deets Arnett
But I will tell you this. It's like Schrader again said last week, North Wilkesboro 20,000, Indianapolis 70,000. And I'm going to tell you something else. You put those cars back on the road course at Indianapolis, they'll never even think about getting 70,000 fans there.
Kenny Wallace
Okay, we have done good because I
Herman Schrader
got a clock here and let's move on because we got some really good stuff that's going to take up a little bit of time.
Kenny Wallace
Let's address. Okay. Just to let you know, we got
Herman Schrader
Jimmie Johnson to talk about. We got the one million challenge to talk about. Carson Kwapple Dale Jr.
Kenny Wallace
Dirt racing joke.
Herman Schrader
So we got a lot to talk about. So we're done with cup and Indy. We did a half hour.
Kenny Wallace
Let's go with the $1 million challenge. It was, it was a shock. But you know, Todd Gilliland, they have, they have fun with his nickname. They say Gillionaire. Ryan Blaney gets in a wreck. It's that simple.
Herman Schrader
Ryan Blaney gets in a wreck, but Gillionaire runs 24th.
Kenny Wallace
Two cars behind is Blaney. Now, his steering wheel is off a little bit, but I don't think he's
Herman Schrader
going to pass him anyway because that's the way the race was.
Kenny Wallace
Kenny Schrader, Todd Gilliland wins $1 million
Herman Schrader
for this in season challenge bracket thing. How big is that for that Front Row Motorsports?
Rusty Wallace
Yeah, he was just, just a million dollars ahead of him is the only distance he was just a million dollars. No, it's great. And you know, the way that deals worked out, nothing's a given because when you're bracketed up that particular day, you know, you got to get it done that day. And Blaney, you know, as strong as they've been, they're capable of being and
Kenny Wallace
stuff,
Rusty Wallace
Todd got there first. I think it's. I think it's awesome. Now, you know, million dollars is a big boost to any team, but you take a company like Front Row and I don't know all the numbers, but I know they're running three cars full time, right? Yeah, three cars full time. You throw that extra million in there. If we take out, you know, we got to pay the driver some. So we take that out, we throw the rest in there. It didn't. It didn't make. It didn't make a huge difference to the budget for the year. But it's neat. It's good deal.
Kenny Wallace
Well, we, like have.
Herman Schrader
We have fun counting other people's money. It's. Oh, yeah, it's a sport for all.
Kenny Wallace
Just give Todd. Give Gillionaire 20%, and the guy's got $200,000.
Herman Schrader
I mean, I know Todd.
Kenny Wallace
He's just. He's one of us. So if they just gave him a
Herman Schrader
little bit, that's a lot.
Rusty Wallace
You know, 20% of what those cars are taking in is not a little bit. But we don't know what he's saying.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah, but, you know, let's just this, you and I are used to the 35, 30, 35. So if you go low, you drove as long as you want to go.
Herman Schrader
It's a lot.
Rusty Wallace
You drove that cheap.
Kenny Wallace
Hell was never very good. Kenny. I made a lot of money in
Herman Schrader
nascar, and I'm very happy with what I made and turned it into NASCAR money.
Kenny Wallace
Okay? So congratulations to Todd Gillen. Listen, we're not going to beat this
Herman Schrader
like a dead horse. We know that Nemechek tried to make it three wide, and he's the one that took Blamey out. Nemechek apologized mercifully.
Kenny Wallace
John Hunter. Nemechek gets out of his car, I
Herman Schrader
mean, immediately beelines to Ryan Blaney, just pleads his case.
Kenny Wallace
Blaney says afterward, deets. Blaney says, look, he apologized. And as much money as Ryan Blaney
Herman Schrader
makes, listen to this.
Kenny Wallace
He says after the race, he goes, he apologized.
Herman Schrader
Nemechek apologized. But that was a lot of money. That hurt.
Kenny Wallace
So as little as a million dollars is, you know, I'm assuming Blaney's making
Herman Schrader
$6 million base, I would think, and he's done it all. So you think Roger paying that kind of money.
Kenny Wallace
Dietz, I'll let you in on this one. As a fan, what did you think
Herman Schrader
of John Hunter apologizing mercifully for.
Deets Arnett
Well, he needed to. I mean, he. He definitely needed to do that. And. And again, I think that goes a long way to the next week, to the next week, to drafting at Atlanta, to drafting at other places. And again, I hate to go back there. That's why Carson Hosvar's got the problems he's got right now is because he does not have respect in the garage. And I can tell you that Ryan Blaney is going to Respect John Hunter Nemechek for coming up there and owning up to what he did. And Blaney would do the same thing.
Kenny Wallace
Kenny, you want a piece of that
Herman Schrader
or you want to let it go?
Rusty Wallace
He. He'll respect him for coming up and saying it still might give him a little extra room.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah, I leave it up to Kenny to put a period.
Deets Arnett
Y' all lived it. So, you know.
Kenny Wallace
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Rusty Wallace
Hey, you know, like, okay, we're gonna host of our. You say, you know, that's one of the little problems he's got now. And we've had a lot of guys have that problem. But it's Ernie. Yeah, Ernie. But it's. It. It's not. It's a problem you can overcome fairly
Deets Arnett
easy, you know, And I kept hearing people last week or a couple weeks ago when we were talking about Jose Var, talking about how Ross Chestn's neutered. And he's not, you know, he's not running up front because he's not driving with reckless, abandoned. That car has not got it. You put him out there that. That O'Reilly car. He's still out there, you know, slinging it around and taking chances and doing all of those sorts of things. So I don't know that Ross Chestn is. Is neutered.
Kenny Wallace
But let me say that I want to interrupt you. When I would run, good people would
Herman Schrader
say to me, hey, you're driving with confidence. I'm like, no, Sherlock.
Kenny Wallace
You know, my car hauls. So I agree with you on that.
Rusty Wallace
It's a lot easier to drive with confidence when you know you're going to drive down and turn, your car's going to stick and it's going to turn. Yes, I'm pretty confident right now.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah. So I agree with that.
Herman Schrader
Deets, you know, watermelon man can't do what he wants to do because, I mean, they're just not there yet.
Kenny Wallace
But, okay. One last thing in cup, and I
Herman Schrader
was really impressed by this.
Kenny Wallace
You know, I've been a little perplexed.
Herman Schrader
I felt like.
Kenny Wallace
And this is just my fault.
Herman Schrader
This is bad on me. I felt like there was bad blood between Jimmy Johnson and Hendrick because they just. They won seven championships, and I just don't see them doing anything together. And I'm like, that just is so strange to me, you know, you figured they'd kind of.
Kenny Wallace
There'd be a little bit more.
Herman Schrader
I thought, my fault, however. Okay, here's the subject matter.
Kenny Wallace
Jimmy Johnson says, okay, the Daytona 500
Herman Schrader
next year in 2027, that is it? I'm totally done.
Kenny Wallace
And Mr. H, you know, Kenny Schrader, your boss, Rick Hendrick says, okay, Jimmy, we will check with our sponsors.
Herman Schrader
Ali. Or Ali. Whatever you say.
Kenny Wallace
They said all good.
Herman Schrader
So Jimmie Johnson is going to use the number 48 at next year's Daytona 500.
Kenny Wallace
And then people are going to be
Herman Schrader
crying and this is it. Jimmy says, I'm totally done. My driving career in NASCAR is officially over.
Kenny Wallace
Kenny, what's your thoughts?
Herman Schrader
That's kind of your, you know, Rick
Kenny Wallace
Hendrick putting the effort into giving him
Herman Schrader
the 48 and all.
Rusty Wallace
You know, it's neat. They'll sell some diecast. Yeah,
Kenny Wallace
yeah.
Rusty Wallace
It doesn't make any difference what numbers on those cars, you know.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Rusty Wallace
And does aggravate me a little bit. We've had more than a few guys in our past be done.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Rusty Wallace
But, you know. Well, I'm not done. I'm just done full time. And then it's, you know, when you step out full time now, maybe not years ago, but when you step out full time now, you're done.
Herman Schrader
I agree. These cars are so difficult. These guys are acting like.
Kenny Wallace
I mean, they are.
Herman Schrader
I mean, it's incredible athletic. I mean, they're sims every day.
Kenny Wallace
I mean, you hear them and it's really happening.
Herman Schrader
And my God, they all got washboard abs.
Kenny Wallace
And if you got a belly in NASCAR nowadays, you're frowned upon. It's like, oh, my God, he's got a belly.
Herman Schrader
These guys put so much effort into it every day.
Deets Arnett
Her not. I don't know if you had it on your format, but speaking of 48, I know you and I in Schrader texted a little bit about this, this Alex Bowman announcement, too, that came out at.
Kenny Wallace
Oh, okay, everybody, we are going to go to Dale Jr. Being emotional and Carson Kwapple next, but
Herman Schrader
let's officially end it here.
Kenny Wallace
Okay, we got a credit. We. Hold on.
Herman Schrader
Back up, Herman.
Kenny Wallace
We have to give credit where credit is due. Dietz has been saying all year long that Bowman is done.
Herman Schrader
And you're right, and I can't speak to why, but deets, we're going to send it to you because this your very prideful moment.
Grainger Commercial Narrator
But they're going.
Herman Schrader
They're going. They're going to give Bowman one more year.
Deets Arnett
You know what that's about.
Herman Schrader
Go ahead.
Kenny Wallace
I'm not stealing your thunder.
Deets Arnett
I think it's about Corey Day or Roger Cruz. That's. That's. This has got to get. This gives them one more year a seasoning just like I think Corey Haim needed in the trucks last year. And I think that that's going to help both of those guys. And I would think, well, but then you hear that Connor Zilich is going to be in the, in that car. So I think the biggest thing about Alex Bowman is, is, is I did not expect that he would retire but I did think that, that he would definitely be done in that 48 and that he would probably be done in, in any kind of high dollar competitive equipment. And you know, he, I'm sure he saw rotten on the wall. And the thing with him is he's broke his back and he's broke something else. I can't. Something with one of his arms, I think. And he just, you know, it kind of reminds me of Neil Bonnet. You know, it's like every other year Neil Bonnet broke his leg or broke something. You see pictures of him all over the place and he's you know, wearing big knee braces and things like that. So I just think Alex Bowman, I think he's beat up and, and I think he's ready to do something else.
Rusty Wallace
No, I, I'm. I'm with Deets Arnett. Yeah, you know that's just. We just wish half see what he does but you know, I mean it'll be hard to go into a another top tier team.

Tostitos Commercial Narrator
Nothing beats tradition like weekly game nights at mom's house and Tostitos crafted with masa made the traditional way. Starting with whole corn kernels with flavors worth gathering around. Like a hint of light lime and Mexican street corn. And no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. That's the Tostitos way. Bring Tostitos to your next game night and you'll be winning. Either way. Tostitos tradition matters,
Kenny Wallace
Man. I just gotta say this.
Herman Schrader
When Steve park got hurt and I drove the one car or when Ernie Irvin got hurt, you know, they called
Kenny Wallace
me the super sub.
Herman Schrader
I was never good enough to have a good ride.
Kenny Wallace
But when, when I did drive for
Herman Schrader
these big time teams, it almost depressed me because when I did drive for the big time teams, my God, they just, you had so much, you know,
Kenny Wallace
it's like I'm driving for the smaller teams and it was a big deal
Herman Schrader
to get my uniforms dry cleaned, little stuff like that. So I agree with you guys if, you know, for Bowman to go to a lesser team. But let me tell you everybody, my experience in the past, the big time teams, they got so much more and
Deets Arnett
you performed in those cars. That's the thing, I think. What? You finished second at Rockingham and you had good runs in 28.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah, but that's first of all, nice of you.
Herman Schrader
Nice of you.
Kenny Wallace
That's nowhere near. I was going, thank you. But what I'm just saying is you guys are saying, I don't see Alex
Herman Schrader
Bowman going to a lesser team.
Kenny Wallace
If he goes to a lesser team, it's, it's a big drop from my
Herman Schrader
experience because I had that experience.
Rusty Wallace
Okay, let me. Wait a minute.
Kenny Wallace
Go ahead.
Rusty Wallace
I'm going to, I'm going to screw off a minute here. Tell Dietz, if you don't tell it right, I'll tell it. Tell Deets about your super sub status qualifying at Darlington. Still got your uniform on. Walk in, see your brother.
Kenny Wallace
Okay, so, okay, the coast is clear, everybody. Kenny Schrader agrees with me.
Herman Schrader
So I might tell a story now. Ernie Irvin gets hurt and I get in the Texco Havelam car.
Kenny Wallace
And I was no Ernie Irvin, but just for me to get in that
Herman Schrader
car, I was a bundle of nerves and. But I showed up and, you know, run fifth at Martin. Da, da, da. So I go to the Southern 500 and I'm in the Texco Avenue car and I go out there and I make my qualifying lap and I qualify six. I come in and you know the Robert Yates team, they're all giving me thumbs up.
Kenny Wallace
Now I'm just going to add this in there.
Herman Schrader
This is not part of the story. I do finish 10th, Rusty's 11th. So, you know, Ernie would have definitely run better.
Kenny Wallace
But anyway, it was all good, right?
Herman Schrader
Okay, let's back up.
Kenny Wallace
So after I qualify six at Darlington
Herman Schrader
for the Southern 500, I leave my Texaco fire suit on like a local racer would.
Kenny Wallace
And all the cup drivers, they're big time.
Herman Schrader
They get out of their fire suits.
Kenny Wallace
Well, I pull a Joe Nemechek, I go strutting around the garage area making sure everybody sees me and I'm like, well, I'll make my one last stop here at Brother Rusty's in the Penske Hauler. You know, it's all chrome.
Herman Schrader
It's Roger Penske. I knock on the door and, oh, they, you know, they kind of slide the door up. Hey, Herman, I said, where's Rusty at?
Kenny Wallace
Oh, he's all. He's up here in the lounge.
Herman Schrader
I'm like, all right. So I got my Texco fire suit on. I go walking up there, and I
Kenny Wallace
look Rusty, and all I'm wanting is his acknowledgment.
Herman Schrader
Hey, Herm, you did good. You know I love you, brother.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah, just thumbs up.
Herman Schrader
And I'm seeking this. I seek attention. I'm the youngest one.
Kenny Wallace
I look at Rusty, he looks me right in the eye, and he looks
Herman Schrader
down to my shoes. He looks back up and he literally says, go make me a ham and cheese sandwich. I'm like, you son of a.
Kenny Wallace
And I said, man, mayonnaise or mustard?
Rusty Wallace
Yeah. I asked him. Beats. I said, what the hell did you say? He said. I looked right at him. He said I was so Madison. Mayonnaise or mustard?
Kenny Wallace
And so I go down and I literally make Rusty a sandwich in my Texas Haviland par suit. You won't even give me my day.
Deets Arnett
Little little brother is always the little brother.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, well.
Kenny Wallace
And let's go back to the point. The point is, is, listen, my career is done.
Herman Schrader
I'm in a good spot, you know, in life right now. And I was only so good, but,
Kenny Wallace
boy, they did give me a taste of the apple.
Herman Schrader
I mean, I drove some.
Kenny Wallace
I was.
Rusty Wallace
They.
Herman Schrader
My nickname was Super Sub.
Kenny Wallace
I was only good enough, but, boy, when I did get in those good cars, oh, man, it was so much. Give me running six, coming to pitch, and go out leading.
Herman Schrader
It's like, what the hell, you know,
Kenny Wallace
with my other teams, you know, you come in the pitch, run 20th, and go out 30th, it's like. But I don't.
Deets Arnett
I don't know, to the business part of it. But did you. Did you ever feel like you had a shot of getting into one?
Herman Schrader
I never got ahead of myself.
Deets Arnett
I mean, as a full time driver, no.
Herman Schrader
But I did think that they were going to put me in again the
Kenny Wallace
next year because, listen, I love Steve Park.
Herman Schrader
You know, we share the same birthday, August 23rd. Obviously, he's younger. Me and Steve share that in common.
Kenny Wallace
Hey, August 23rd. And, you know, we see each other
Herman Schrader
at bike Week still to this day, we really like each other.
Kenny Wallace
But, you know, that was an interesting
Herman Schrader
subject at that time.
Kenny Wallace
I really thought that they were gonna
Herman Schrader
keep me in the car, but there
Kenny Wallace
Was just Richie Gilmore wanted me in the car. You know, Paul Andrews wanted me in
Herman Schrader
the car because I was running so damn good. Sit on, you know, set, quick timer, Rockingham, run second.
Kenny Wallace
But anyway, it never happened.
Herman Schrader
And then it went on to go really bad. And I don't take pleasure in saying that.
Kenny Wallace
And then it ended. But anyway, yeah, Bowman getting back to the original story. Bowman and diet.
Herman Schrader
You probably know more about this.
Kenny Wallace
Did he say that I've always planned
Herman Schrader
on quitting in my mid-30s, didn't he? Yeah, he said that I was like, what the hell?
Deets Arnett
Yeah, I kind of find that hard to believe. I mean, I hate to say that, but I. I don't see you get in that 48 car when you're 27 or 28 years old. You're like, yeah, I think I'll get out of it when I'm 33.
Kenny Wallace
Well, in my point, Kenny, and like, this is. I don't think Mr. H would put
Herman Schrader
him in the car if he was
Kenny Wallace
mentally and physically unable. So they're putting him in the car all next year. So, I mean, if he was. I mean, let's say he is physically roughed up.
Herman Schrader
If that's perplexing to me that they're going another year.
Rusty Wallace
They're not putting him in that car if they don't think that he can still perform, they would be somebody else in it.
Deets Arnett
Yeah. And when I say that, I just. I think for him, you know, they're just wearing. You get wear and tear on your body and stuff, and we didn't realize how much wear and tear Jeff Gordon was getting on his back there towards the end of his career and stuff like that. So I don't think he's at any form or fashion dangerous to be out there impaired or. Or anything like that. I just. I think, you know, once you've had some hard licks, you get to a point where you're like, I don't really know if I want to do this anymore.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Wallace
Okay, switching subject, everybody, we are officially
Herman Schrader
gone from cup again. And the winner, ladies and gentlemen.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah, the winner, ladies and gentlemen, is Alan. Dates, Dates. I got a trophy here for you for predicting.
T-Mobile Ad Disclaimer
Thanks.
Herman Schrader
Carson kwapple wins the O'Reilly race. It's a big win that night. His brother, Caden Quapple wins. It is the day of the Quapples massive, heartfelt celebration. So congratulations to the Quapple's big deal.
Kenny Wallace
But what got everybody's attention was Dale Jr.
Herman Schrader
Literally started crying.
Kenny Wallace
Now, the tears weren't rolling, but he started, you know.
Deets Arnett
Yeah.
Kenny Wallace
And what it Was. Was that. Now I want to give my opinion
Herman Schrader
because I'm adamant about this.
Kenny Wallace
I think Dale Jr. Is wounded.
Herman Schrader
That Josh Berry, you know, that is his guy.
Kenny Wallace
Dale Jr.
Herman Schrader
Loves Josh Berry, and he is a. He is the guy out of Junior Motorsports.
Kenny Wallace
So, you know, the Wood brothers say,
Herman Schrader
okay, we're not bringing Josh Berry back in. Junior Was noticeably shaken by that.
Kenny Wallace
He creates cars.
Herman Schrader
There's pictures out there everywhere where Carson's little and he's driving for Dale Jr.
Kenny Wallace
Dale Jr. Like all of us, we can be smart asses, but Kenny Schrader
Herman Schrader
can be emotional, too.
Kenny Wallace
We all can. Dale Jr gets overrun by emotion that
Herman Schrader
he said, I told Carson, carson, you got to win. It's a sad part of competition. You got to win. I've got you here, but you got to win. So Carson Wins, and Dale Jr. Is overcome by emotion. Yes.
Kenny Wallace
So, Kenny, give me your thoughts.
Rusty Wallace
Well, I didn't. I didn't see that. I didn't see the Saturday race, but. Okay, so he really has, you know, he's. He really likes Quaffle.
Deets Arnett
He said he's like a son.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah, okay. Quaffle wins the race for him. That's. I mean, that's. That's very emotional. You're all pumped up. But then you look on pit road and your other cars are second, third, and fourth.
Deets Arnett
Right.
Kenny Wallace
I knew. Yes. It's like, you better win.
Rusty Wallace
It's like, wait a minute. There's a whole lot of stuff going on here today. That's. That was. It was a huge day.
Deets Arnett
I got fortunate that I got to see both of those boys start out running bandolero cars at. At the quarter mile at Concord. And I know I've told Travis this before when I've seen him, and I don't. I don't know any of them well, but I've got two sons, and I've told him, you have done such a good job of. Forget the driving. You and your wife have done such a good job of raising these boys. They are. They are good boys. And. And. And I. I think that goes a long way. I do think the thing that. That surprised me in all of that post race celebration with some of what Dale Jr. Said and with what Carson Copple said, is he's on the hot seat, and I think he's still on the hot seat. And I don't think that I realized. I don't know if anybody else did, but I didn't realize that until after that race on Saturday. And when you say you got to go out there and win races and you know, he said. Carson said, I don't know what I'm doing next year. So that's a big deal on a lot of levels.
Herman Schrader
Isn't that sad?
Kenny Wallace
You know, back in our day, Kenny,
Herman Schrader
if you won one cup race, you were set for the next two years.
Kenny Wallace
You're jotting different.
Herman Schrader
Different guy. But I'm just saying, Josh Berry wins Vegas, like big time. And like, yeah, you're done. It's like, wow. It's just. Man, oh, man. That's all I'm saying. Okay.
Deets Arnett
And he run good yesterday and ran with a purpose.
Kenny Wallace
The best brothers that ever run at Indy.
Herman Schrader
I saw it this morning.
Deets Arnett
He hung that thing up on the outside a couple of times and passed three or four cars, and he drove kind of pissed off. And. And maybe that's not a bad thing.
Kenny Wallace
I just looked at Josh's. It's a.
Herman Schrader
It's a rough time, but they'll out come out of it.
Kenny Wallace
I. Now. Now what happens if Josh Berry wins again? Well, then good. You know, he'll get.
Herman Schrader
But I'm staying. It's just a. That's all I'm saying.
Deets Arnett
Yeah.

Okay, guys, that's crazy. We're at. We've done an hour and I was
Herman Schrader
just like to say that Kenny.
Kenny Wallace
Well, real quick, Lane. What's Riggs first name?
Herman Schrader
Lane.
Deets Arnett
Lane.
Herman Schrader
He killed him at Raceway Park, Kenny.
Kenny Wallace
I mean, it just. It annihilated them.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah, I did.
Herman Schrader
Crowd but shot.
Rusty Wallace
I didn't. I didn't see it, but I heard that the crowd at Raceway park was. Was very good for the arca. Race and the truck race. Yep. So that's. That's.
Deets Arnett
Yeah, it was really good.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah. You know, Lane Riggs.
Kenny Wallace
Congratulations.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah, I mean, it's like putting with Quaffle there. As far as the second generation, I don't know if it's third generation, but, you know, his daddy was in Cup Scott for a number of years, so who knows what we're looking at there. I see him, and he's having a great year this year.
Deets Arnett
I think this goes back to the something we talked about a week or two ago, that Ford has got an abundance of riches right now, but they've got to figure something out because Lane Riggs and Chandler Smith, you know, Todd Gillen signed a contract extension. Zane Smith runs great. Noah Gregson signed the contract extension. And then you don't have any Fords in the O'Reilly series, so they run the risk of losing some guys if they don't. If they don't get some things figured out to give them a place to go.
Kenny Wallace
You know, I'd call bull on you
Herman Schrader
every once in a while, but, Deets, you're pretty much right about everything.
Kenny Wallace
It's kind of like brother Rusty said. Rusty said, herman, if you're going to
Herman Schrader
be a cup driver and you tell the team five things to do, three of them better be right, and you're more right than you are wrong. So.
Deets Arnett
Well, I need to record that. And there's hundreds of people that I hope hear that in the Charlotte area.
Rusty Wallace
He's. He's telling me.
Kenny Wallace
When you say he's telling you you
Rusty Wallace
have a 60% approval rating rate.
Deets Arnett
Thank you.
Kenny Wallace
You know, it's. You know, I, you know, I do this. We do this show every week. I just got to say, sometimes when you say things, it's harder than, you know, you're worse than me. You're like, you just slap people and it's a little hard to hear. You know, Bobby Lobani told me one
Herman Schrader
time somebody said, why is. Why is Tony Stewart's team better than Bobby Lobani this 20 years ago?
Kenny Wallace
And I said, well, Tony Stewart's got better engineers. All of Joe Gibbs was mad at me. And later on, Bobby Lobani said, you know, Hearn, you were right.
Herman Schrader
It was just hard to hear, you
Kenny Wallace
know, that Tony had better engineers than you. So you say the difficult things.
Herman Schrader
Oh, we're crazy.
Kenny Wallace
I love it. Okay, this is it, everybody. Kenny, I'm thinking you have a little bit to say.
Herman Schrader
Dirt racing was plentiful. Give us a dirt racing update.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah. And I'm not I'm. I'm not in. I'm not geared up. I just know that the sprint cars. Two big nights like Wednesday at Ashwick and then they went to. I think they went to Ransomville. They were two nights at Port Royal that both paid big money. Hundred thousand dollars. Sunday night at Port Royal where Gio Selsie won his first high limits race. First win of the year and first win for Spire Motorsports in the sprint car. So they've been knocking on the door, been running good. You. You're up on the late mile deal. Because the late. The big late mile deal you were at.
Kenny Wallace
Let's go on. I'm cheating right now.
Herman Schrader
I went to X 13 hours ago.
Kenny Wallace
David Gravel one at Weed Sport. Kenny, his six World of Outlaw win this year.
Herman Schrader
They just call it weed. Weed sport then weed sport. Yeah. And then I'm scrolling more.
Deets Arnett
I watched Bransonville. Aaron Ratzel won that. I watched that one and I watched the first night of Fairberry and I saw you rave about Fairberry, Kenny, just what a great event that is.
Kenny Wallace
Okay. So I just.
Herman Schrader
We did the best we could for sprint cars. Yes.
Kenny Wallace
Okay. What Kenny is talking about and deets.
Herman Schrader
I was at Fairberry. It's. You'll never duplicate this deal. It is called the pdc. It stands for Prairie Dirt Classic.
Kenny Wallace
So many racetracks say, God, we wish
Herman Schrader
we were like Fairberry, but it's so organic.
Kenny Wallace
Brandon Shepard is on a roll.
Herman Schrader
Rocket chassis is the new Longhorn.
Kenny Wallace
What I mean by that is chassis builders like they do like this.
Herman Schrader
And right now, rocket is back up top. Mark Richards got grip built in those cars.
Kenny Wallace
And man, there's, you know that Brandon
Herman Schrader
shepherd can get around those bull rings and.
Kenny Wallace
But.
Herman Schrader
But he literally passed Bobby Pierce on the inside and didn't even rough Bobby Pierce up. Bobby's going through a rough little patch here because his daddy, you know, had a stroke. And a lot of people think that Bob is.
Kenny Wallace
Besides Bobby Pierce being the great driver
Herman Schrader
he is, a lot of people think that combination of Bob and Bobby.
Kenny Wallace
Well, the dad right now is kind
Herman Schrader
of going in and out of the totem because he gets real white because he had to stroke and. But anyway, Bobby still runs good runs third.
Kenny Wallace
So Shepard wins. Hudson o' Neill second. Pierce third. Nick Kaufman fourth.
Herman Schrader
It was a hell of a race.
Kenny Wallace
Good race. But once again, none of those bangers
Herman Schrader
like in the past because Shep was that good.
Kenny Wallace
So after the race, they literally drive the race car out to the corner
Herman Schrader
because the racetrack's in the city.
Kenny Wallace
There's houses right there and they Go through the bank. And that's what makes this race so special.
Herman Schrader
The bank sponsors something they make believe
Kenny Wallace
he's cashing the check. And then, of course, they got the golf tournament, you know, Thursday, the day before.
Herman Schrader
They raise all the money, they give the money away.
Kenny Wallace
They got a big radio show on
Herman Schrader
top this bus on Saturday.
Kenny Wallace
They got these funny pictures on every
Herman Schrader
telephone pole that are just hysterical. And that's why the PDC is just organic. It's like, oh, my God, we want to be like the pdc.
Rusty Wallace
And it's just.
Herman Schrader
It's built in this damn town and it's just awesome.
Rusty Wallace
I haven't been up there in a number of years, but that. That Dave supermarket that you went to that everybody raves about where they carry your carrier groceries out your car for you, but they must sell alcohol, too, because I know everybody, it's a big party up there, but, man, it's just. It's a cool event.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
And one last thing about the PDC in Fairbury, Illinois.
Kenny Wallace
Golf cart galore. I mean, the golf carts take over the whole town. I mean, in and out, up and down the streets. There's so much to say.
Herman Schrader
But anyway, congratulations to Brandon shepherd. And once again, I run horrible.
Kenny Wallace
I did. I had to finish first or second
Herman Schrader
in the B main. I finished third. I got in on a provisional. I had no. I was shocked.
Kenny Wallace
I was ready, you know, to be disappointed. And every year they give a. They take their first two in points
Herman Schrader
from the summer nationals, and then the next one is highest and national points from the last year. Then a local in here. I finished fifth in what they call national points. And I got in, but I was no good. But I took the provisional because if
Kenny Wallace
I didn't, somebody else was going to.
Rusty Wallace
Right?
Kenny Wallace
All right, Kenny. Anything else?
Rusty Wallace
Big week for our little area for St. Louis Racing this weekend is we have something that doesn't happen very often anymore. We have a new racetrack opening, A state of the art new racetrack. Now, I must say it's new racetrack because it's Belclair Speedway. We call it Belleville, Bellclair. Different things. And it was there from 1948 or something until, I don't know, dozen years ago or 10 years ago or something. But they moved it on the fairgrounds. But they built a brand new one and it's going to open this Saturday.
Deets Arnett
Is that the same Belleville that had the big midget nationals?
Rusty Wallace
No, no, that's Belleville, Kansas.
Deets Arnett
Okay. Okay.
Kenny Wallace
However, I will give you credit because. And Kenny can speak to this way
Herman Schrader
more than Me, but Keith Coons, Flea
Kenny Wallace
Rosic, all the open world midget guys. Kenny, you know, I was over there for the test and Keith Coons and Flea, they got emotional.
Herman Schrader
They said, no, we're Illinois boys. This is where midget racing grew up.
Kenny Wallace
Well, is that true?
Herman Schrader
I mean, obviously.
Rusty Wallace
Well, in, I guess it was the early 50s. You know, I drove for. I didn't drive for Bud Hoppy in the early 50s. But, but you could, you could run a midget all around Illinois. You could run five or six nights a week. They told me it might even be been more than that because you could run like twice on Saturday. But they ran all over a little fairgrounds tracks and you know, Belclair was a fairgrounds track. But yes, it's big and I'm glad
Kenny Wallace
you brought it up. I'll just add a little bit more. So they are going to celebrate the
Herman Schrader
opening of the track with open wheel midgets Micros and then our modifieds and then they, they got more aggressive.
Kenny Wallace
Kenny, it was just announced today, Mars
Herman Schrader
is going there with the super late model.
Kenny Wallace
They got, they got jacked up On Sundrop here. August 30, Mars late models are going
Herman Schrader
there with our mods.
Rusty Wallace
Well, there's going to be, there's going to be more announced. There's going to be bigger announcements. Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Good stuff.
Kenny Wallace
Okay, time for junkie jokes.
Deets Arnett
Junkie jokes. All right. Why did the banana go to the doctor? Because it wasn't peeling. Well, popped on my pee there.
Kenny Wallace
I like that.
Deets Arnett
What's a Fireflies favorite dance? I thought Schrader might get this glitter bug.
Kenny Wallace
The glitter bug instead of the juniper.
Deets Arnett
And lastly, where do roses sleep at night?
Herman Schrader
Oh, no.
Deets Arnett
In their flower bed.
Kenny Wallace
Why did I feel like the Johnny
Herman Schrader
Carson show last night?
Kenny Wallace
Where, Where. The amazing Crescent.
Deets Arnett
Yeah.
Kenny Wallace
You know, he would. Johnny Carson would say world, new flowers sleep at night. And then.
Deets Arnett
Yeah.
Kenny Wallace
And then Ed McMahon would say. He would, he would say it over again. So we're.
Rusty Wallace
Yeah. Harness. That was Carnac the car.
Kenny Wallace
Yeah. Yeah, I love it. Well, all right.
Deets Arnett
That won't make anybody say we're old right now.
Kenny Wallace
They'll go. But I'm going to tell you what though. And I do, we do want to thank the fans.
Herman Schrader
I'm speaking for all of us.
Kenny Wallace
And even everywhere I've gone this week, you would think, okay.
Herman Schrader
But they do like this show and I want to acknowledge that. We hear you all. Thank you so much.
Kenny Wallace
Kenny, what are you doing this weekend?
Rusty Wallace
We don't know or say what you were. We don't know for sure. But we're going someplace a lot. We're going to run, try to run Thursday, Friday, Saturday. But I'm just looking. Cup is off next weekend, right? Is cup off?
Herman Schrader
I didn't realize that.
Deets Arnett
Yeah, I believe so. I'll double check.
Rusty Wallace
Boy, we're over. We're all over it, aren't we?
Kenny Wallace
Hey, listen, it. We are not Larry McReynolds. It is hard to know everything. We don't know everything. So look, see my shirt? Respond right here, you tell us.
Deets Arnett
So come back August 9th to Iowa. O'Reilly is off and the trucks are off. Wow.
Rusty Wallace
Okay,
Deets Arnett
what are we going to talk about next week?
Rusty Wallace
Just jokes. An hour of jokes.
Kenny Wallace
So Kenny said it.
Herman Schrader
Saturday, I will be at Belleville, Illinois, Belclaire Speedway.
Kenny Wallace
All right. We say at the end of every show, if you want to see deep. Yeah, that voice is so deep. If you want to see what deets
Herman Schrader
looks like, tune into the Kenny Wallace YouTube show. And if you want to listen to us on the Way to the Races, Dell Jr's Dirty Mo Media podcast. Until the next Herman Schrader show. Goodbye, everybody.

Date: July 29, 2026
Hosts: Kenny Wallace, Ken “Herman” Schrader (“Schrader”), Deets Arnett, Rusty Wallace (occasional guest input)
Produced By: SiriusXM, Dirty Mo Media
The episode dives into the current NASCAR scene with a no-holds-barred discussion on the aftermath of the Brickyard 400, the ongoing rivalry between Corey Heim and Carson Hocevar, the influence of media on driver dynamics, and a wide array of grassroots racing stories. The Kennys, known for their irreverence and candid storytelling, deliver a nostalgic and insightful look at racing’s changing landscape, mixing this week’s news with personal tales and opinions.
On Indy as a Stock Car Track:
“It is not a good racetrack. For stock cars. Period.” — Deets Arnett (11:01)
On Race Quality:
“Not every baseball game is good. Not every football game is good. Not every movie is good…this wasn’t one of our more exciting ones.” — Rusty Wallace (15:48)
On Heim’s Arrival:
“This kid to me is a delayed Jeff Gordon. He should have been a Cup a long time ago.” — Kenny Wallace (20:27)
“I don’t think a star is born. I think it just got brighter.” — Rusty Wallace (21:15)
On Media Stirring Rivalries:
“The media is the one that instigates all this stuff… ‘Hey, he flipped you off, what do you think about that?’” — Kenny Wallace (28:35)
On Carson Kvapil’s Win and Dale Jr.’s Emotions:
“Dale Jr. gets overrun by emotion… he said, ‘I told Carson, you got to win. Sad part of competition: you got to win.’” — Kenny Wallace (52:45)
On the New Belle-Claire Speedway:
“We have something that doesn’t happen very often anymore. We have a new racetrack opening...” — Rusty Wallace (66:01)
This episode captures the Herm & Schrader spirit: a blend of racing news, unvarnished truths about NASCAR’s challenges (especially at the Brickyard), excitement for the next generation of drivers, and affectionate nods to racing’s quirky, familial past. The hosts’ chemistry and vast experience lend both gravitas and wit, whether they’re calling out the media’s influence on rivalries, celebrating Corey Heim’s arrival, or reminiscing about their “super sub” days. If you care about racing’s past, present, or future—or just about having a laugh and hearing it like it is—this one’s a can’t-miss.
