Herman Schrader on the Dirty Mo Media platform from the middle of America in St. Louis, Missouri starts right now. The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media. I'm looking at Kenny Schrader right now.
Kenny Schrader
He had a drink during the show. I mean.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. How in the world did we agree to do a podcast?
Kenny Schrader
I like spending time with that makes me happy. Well, it's all about making you happy.
Herman Schrader
We're always honest.
Kenny Schrader
We don't know that we're not in trouble already. And sometimes truthful. What makes you think you're not a little different?
Herman Schrader
You're weird too. Herman Schrader.
Kenny Schrader
You may be in the middle of America in St. Louis, Missouri. But I'm. I'm in north of Toronto at Sunset Speedway freezing my butt off. It's cold up here. So we're, we're a ways away from being in the middle of America. Maybe, maybe be back there Sunday.
Herman Schrader
I have been paying close attention to you and it's been a lot of fun for me. I first saw you racing your Federated Auto Parts race, Karadash Wiegand and so you go first. What have you been up to?
Kenny Schrader
Well we came up Wednesday night. Okay. Federated Oswego Speedway had a world outlaw sprint car race Wednesday and Thursday with a terrible, terrible forecast. And guess what? It was nice Wednesday and Thursday and they had a, they had a great crowd Wednesday night and Thursday was a lot better. The track was good. They ran from the bottom to top. No grip anywhere. No grip. It was like slime without tear offs. Guys ran their sprint car tires, you know, all night long and didn't hurt them. It was a great show. The owner of the track, Glenn Stiers won late mile race Wednesday night. First race at his track in 10 years and first victory at his track in 10 years. And Thursday night we ran the little modifieds along with the Outlaws and we didn't, we run fourth. Glenn had some problems, got turned around, run ninth. Then we, we got rained out. We went well we went to Brighton the next night. We did a play day, we went to Brighton Speedway, we won there and Glenn runs second and then we got rained out today. The World Outlaws got rained out last night at Cornwall in Ontario and our play day got rained out today. We came up and watched an APC late mile race last night. We have been all over damn place and I'm going to meet up Joey Wednesday on our way out of Canada. We're going to go race in West Virginia Hilltop Speedway and Tyler County Friday and Saturday.
Herman Schrader
All right, before I go I, I got a couple questions. We talked about weather forecast. How just a weather forecast can ruin local racing. So you're telling me that this weather forecast look bad and ended up being fine but yet there were still people at the racetrack.
Kenny Schrader
They, they had, they had sold so many pre sale tickets. Oh it was basically 24, 36 hours, you know before race day that it started changing. Didn't really get good until 12 hours before. You know that morning it looked better but because it was a bigger event and a lot of pre sales they, they, they did okay. You know, I mean I'm gonna say it hurt them some but if it what it hurt them, you know was just Extra because it was a. It was a hell of a crowd that was there and. And deservingly so because like always, the world outlaws put on one hell of a good show.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. You know, Kenny Dobson from Jacksonville, Illinois, Jacksonville Speedway. Kenny, he mentioned this. He said that, you know, the weather forecast was so bad about two, three weeks ago that if they would not have sold all the pre sales, meaning everyone that the tickets are sold and now you're going to come whether the forecast is good or bad. Those pre sales, you know, they've worked. They've worked two times. Jacksonville and now you're telling me Ashweigan so that I never would have thought of that. But pre sales do work because it forces people to come. And then the weather was good.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. Oh, and that's like our. Our buddy partner, Bob Sargent. They didn't have a good crowd at Lincoln, Illinois, Friday night. Yeah, this just wasn't good. And then Bob said. I don't know, he said maybe the. Maybe. Maybe the rain and tornadoes hurt us some. I don't know, it might have been it. You know, the whole Midwest was getting beat up and you didn't have a good crowd. So. Yeah, it. I mean, weather is everything anymore.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And. And Kenny, you. You were in Canada, but I'm going to tell you. And then I want to bring everybody up to speed right now. Kenny's been in Canada for a while and I love that because it seems like that's that annual trip you do for Federated. But here in St. Louis, there is a conveyor belt of bad weather and it won't stop. And here we are taping Herman Schrader showed. I'm looking outside and weather's saying here it comes again. They're talking hail and I haven't seen anything like this in a while, Kenny. But the tornado, real tornado that really touched down, it started in Forest park, you know, where one of the first world's fair was and it destroyed some trees and it went north of St. Louis. And have you seen everything? Have you looked at the pictures?
Kenny Schrader
I've seen quite a bit and I know we had some fatalities in St. Louis. Yeah, I think I read five.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, we lost five people and it was the first time since 1959. It's because, you know, some of those homes are older in St. Louis and it didn't take much. It, you know, it knocked churches down. Some lady was at her church and it knocked the church down and fell in on her and killed her. So, yeah, it was. It was tough. Okay, well, we know what Kenny Schrader's up to. You can hear the noise in the background. I love this.
Kenny Schrader
That's the generator. We're in the dirt hauler.
Herman Schrader
I love it. It's so real. And Kenny, I'm laughing because. And this is the second time I brought this up. Remember when the motor racing outreach would have church in the cup garage area and a motor would start up and what would you tell the preacher? We're in a garage area.
Kenny Schrader
Well, what was funny was that they had a bible study for all the kids. And the kids, you know, they were. They were pretty small. They'd all be. They're playing and miss Jackie, you know, made it a lot of fun for everybody. And. But they're all playing and their cars running around. They're trying to listen, but they're in the trailer because, you know, you can't drown out noise. The cars. And all of a sudden it gets quiet and there's a yellow flag and they're all like, worried because somebody's going to have to go home.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. One of the kids are going to.
Kenny Schrader
Have to leave somebody's daddy wrecked and someone's going to have to leave the party.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. So anyway, that is the generator in the background. We love it. We're definitely going to put up with it because we. Kenny. And that's awesome. All right, Kenny. We're. We're gonna throw an audible. Usually we. Wait a minute. Yep.
Kenny Schrader
You were the big wiener this week.
Herman Schrader
Oh, yeah. I forgot about me.
Kenny Schrader
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. You forgot about your convincing. Convincing victory.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. So this week I decided not to go to Quincy. The reason I decided not to go to Quincy. It's a couple reasons. And, and I do want to just say it. I don't like what I'm seeing right now. I, I, I, I see that, you know, the dirt, super late models, they're the show. And we've had about four races in a row for the modifieds where the late models put on a hell of a show and they burned the track up. And I don't like it. The track for the super late models ends up rubbered up the last 10 laps, and they don't even scratch the track. And they, they take the modifieds and they say, okay, go out on the one lane rubbered up track. And, And I know Quincy. Quincy is about a 25 lap super late model track. You can't water it enough. It's. It's got some tough dirt. And sure enough, and I'm not bragging on it. I'm just saying. Kenny about 10 laps to go for the super late models rubbered up Hard, hard rubber. What'd they do? They sent the, the modifieds right out there. Single file. I'm not mad at them. I just said I'm not gonna go because one, I'm not getting back at 4 in the morning. So I didn't go to Quincy for all those reasons and I was right and I was fresh. I was ready to go for, you know, Federated Auto Parts Raceway park and, and we won, you know. So what do, what do you think about me criticizing these rubbered up racetracks four weeks in a row for Mars? You mad at me?
Kenny Schrader
No, no, I'm not. But it's, it's tough. You know, first off, I mean we all want track be perfect all time but that's not the way. It just, it doesn't happen that way. I mean it sounds like you almost ought to go back to pavement racing. You could single file around the bottom just and start out doing that and you just do that all night long.
Herman Schrader
I just, I just want them to scratch the track. I'd rather race on a dirty track, just scratch it. You know, Farmer City was doing that and it's dirty and I'll get out. But, but yeah, we, it was a good win for us. I blame it on Greg Stump. He, he finally got my Sunoco. He finally got my Sunoco helmet done. I've been running the same helmet for the last couple years and I got a really nice helmet and I was like, oh no, I don't know how this new helmet's gonna run. And it did not bring me bad luck. So the new helmet one you tell how my goofy ass thinks.
Kenny Schrader
I've been down that road. You're gonna lose in that helmet also. Just remember.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, oh yeah, you're right. You're right. So we had a good win and I felt good about it. And so yeah, that was pretty much it. And then Sunday I worked. You know, I'm kind of like you, I got to work in advance. So I got the car all ready to go yesterday for the next time I race. You know, there, there's only local racing on Friday. You know what, this is one thing I do want to talk to you about. They're only going to run Granite on Friday because of Memorial Day weekend. But all the other tracks are shut down. No Highland, you know, no peely. I would have to really search a track out. What do you think of all the local tracks not racing on Memorial Day weekend? Is that a good call? Kenny? What's up with that?
Kenny Schrader
I don't know. It's up to. It's up to the track. I. Memorial Day's Monday, you know. I mean, I think you still race Friday and Saturday. I don't know. I know Granite's running Friday. I didn't realize Peebley wasn't running Saturday.
Herman Schrader
Or Highland even. Highland's not going to run, so.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, well, if some of them were closing, I'd be opening mine.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, and I. And I agree with that. You know, you bring up a good point. Memorial Day's Monday. Don't give up the whole damn weekend because everybody's off Monday anyway.
Kenny Schrader
Ray would close for Labor Day weekend, which I never understood because to me Memorial Day weekend was if you're going to close for one, I'd close for that one. But what. Whatever. It doesn't make any difference.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, right.
Kenny Schrader
Here we are, we're closing in on the end of May. Still got two more weekends and already got a bad attitude. So you got to get straight up, get over it. It's going to be a long summer.
Herman Schrader
Right? You're right. You know, it's kind of weird, you know, I know that you are the ultimate racer and I like to say I'm a pretty good racer too. And, and I. I think we race year round, but in a weird way with UMP Especially the middle of June when the summer nationals fire up. I remember Nick Hoffman only having volusia in. In February and He started racing June 14 and never gave up and ran more races than anybody and won it all. Because when you start in the middle of June, there's just so much racing. There's seven days a week. So you and I race year round. But in reality, if you want to fire up in the middle of June, you can run seven days a week here in the Midwest with that summer nationals and if you get good weather, so. Hey, it's Dale Jr. Did you know that we've got brand new merch from our star stripes and beers collection available now? We've got tanks, teas, beach towels and more just in time for summer. Okay, you helped me. I almost forgot about me. We're going to call an audible. I was talking to Mike Davies, Mike Davis, excuse me. I was talking to our boss at Dirty Mo Media and I said, you know, I like putting the NASCAR stuff at the end because you guys beat it to death. And by Monday, you know, you've had Dirty Mo Media, you had all these. And, and Mike Davis said something that I want to share with you and everybody. He says, no, no, no, no. You, you guys are getting about 18, 000 viewers. It's because they want to hear what Schrader has to say. And, and I, yeah, he said that. And I like that you're, you're the catalyst to Herman Schrader. I kind of set you up. And, and so Kenny, Mike Davis got me thinking differently. We're. We're averaging 18, 000 people on Herman Schrader and they want to hear what us old goats. But I say, oh, geez, I think we're awesome. A good nickname for us is the OGs. It's kind of a badass nickname. They want to hear what Kenny Schrader has to say about these NASCAR races. So our philosophy gonna be a little different. What do you think of that?
Kenny Schrader
Well, I think that because we've been racing every day and doing play days. Racing every night, doing play days every day. Yeah, Five of us were in the hauler last night and I had a couch. I didn't make the whole race. Yeah, I fell asleep. But I saw first hundred fifty. Yeah, all the first one hundred fifty. And then I woke up when the guys were kind of making a lot of noise because it was getting intense.
Herman Schrader
Right.
Kenny Schrader
But what I, what I saw before they ever threw the green flag was I saw an old, packed, packed racetrack and a tremendous amount of excitement. Just like you saw it. Bowman Gray.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, it amazes, it amazes me that.
Kenny Schrader
We went, you know, that they went back to North Wilkesboro. I would have never guessed it, but it also amazes me that Kentucky's closed, we don't race in Chicago, and California's closed. I don't understand that either. But it was neat to see. I'm sure. I'm sure a lot of the cup teams would just soon not. Not have it because it's three friggin. They must have fired a car up.
Herman Schrader
Good. I love it.
Kenny Schrader
3. Three days at Wilkesboro, are you kidding me? We're two days at some of these places and we're in Wilkesboro for three days. But with the other series and stuff, looked like it was a big weekend and that, you know, we'll see the TV numbers in a couple days, but the fan support was huge. And that's that. That tells you what, it tells you the excitement.
Herman Schrader
Okay, we're going to come at this from a different point of view, and it's all going to make sense. All right? Dale Jr. And Marcus Smith, they. They pick the weeds out of this racetrack. They clean it up. The thing's dilapidated. Because they're going to scan the track and put on iracing. And Covid comes along and now we got money. And when they pick the weeds out of the track, they go, damn, this track's in pretty good shape. Once they get the weeds picked out, they actually raced on it on the old asphalt. Then they got the COVID money and everybody's brains change and they're like, hey, now, this is fast forwarding. There's a. There's a three hour show on what we're going to talk about in about 20 minutes here. But let me, Let me say this, and then I want you to respond because Wilkesboro was crudely designed years ago by some farmers you and I know. It's kind of like Nazareth, the old Nazareth. You. You literally go like downhill, like. Like you're going downhill. You go through turns one and two. You come uphill. The truck race, Kenny, the truck race was the same thing. Lane Riggs gets on the inside of Corey Heim. They get up in the, you know, they go smashing in each other. They spin out. Chandler Smith wins it. Same damn finish pretty much. You know, Christopher Bell is all over, you know, Joey Logano, you know, Logano stays out because he decides to stay out. Christopher puts on right sides. So my question to you is this. Do sometimes with the new technology, do we try to design these new racetracks too? Too perfect. Wilkesboro is crude, but damn it, races good.
Kenny Schrader
I don't know. First off, now if we get a race that's not a nail biter till the very last lap. Yeah, you know, it not considered good anyway. But that, that was definitely good racing. I got to see most of the truck race too. Yeah, it put on. It put on a good show. I want to throw one other thing out there. Dale Jr. And, you know, Marcus Smith definitely listened to him. And then, you know, you go back before that, I, I think for it to even be around and still being brought up a lot before Dale Jr got on it big was Terry Parsons. Benny's. Oh, Benny's wife. Terry. Terry. Terry and a group up there worked many, many hours to, to help bring stuff back there. I mean, many hours. Yeah, I mean, so she's pretty part of that behind the scenes, but she was in the forefront until Junior came in. But yeah, I mean, hell, the people supported. I remember leaving there and I don't remember where we went. Maybe that was California or something. It's like we're leaving there. It's like not going to come back here anymore. And then getting halfway home, driving halfway home, you know, which was a little over a half hour. Yeah, it's like, oh, I could fly to California instead. Be careful what you wish for, but you know, you can talk about it all you want. And a lot of it's just opinions. The facts are they came there, they put on a big race, and a lot of people came out and supported it, and they had a hell of a race. So as far as designing the, the perfect racetrack, I don't know if we know what the hell it is. You know, we don't. We don't know it is. And you don't design tracks just for cup cars. You design them for other cars, too.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, all. All three races, even the modified wheeling cars, they started like 1:30 on, on Sunday, and it was a hell of a race. And they, they wrecked a little bit too much because they were going at it. But. Okay, let, let's change gears about the facility itself. Number one, they spend a massive amount of money on a pedestrian bridge that goes over the interstate right there. Well, you know, small highway, not. Not a major interstate, but, you know, it's two lanes on both sides and they build, you know, it's a big bridge. So it seems to me that Marcus knows something. They're not going to spend this kind of money on this racetrack. There's this big cry out. Okay, I'm gonna set it up for you. Okay. Kevin Harvick lived right next to Marcus Smith and Cassie, you know, for quite a while. Now all of a sudden, Kevin Harvick is coming out and I Think he's done it on purpose. Kevin Harvick, about a week ago, started this rally cry. We're gonna, you know, Wilkesboro needs to be a points race. We need 40 cars. We need it back on the calendar. What? Now, I know we're just guessing here. They put the pedestrian bridge up, Harvard comes out and says points race. Do they. Do they know something we don't know? Because they're spending money on the track and, I mean, that's all anybody's talking about. Now, this has to be a points race. What's your thoughts on this?
Kenny Schrader
They can do whatever. You know, NASCAR and them do whatever they want. But right off the bat, in my mind, which I'm not involved, but it's real simple. Are we going to add a race or where do you want to take it from?
Herman Schrader
Marcus owns a lot of racetracks. I could never see one coming from Bristol ever. But, boy, I tell you what, the people. And I don't want to bring this up, I don't want to bring this up, but, man, they are mad at Bristol. The races aren't what they want, and Kyle Larson's running away from the field. I have some people having fun with me, and they're saying, Kenny Wallace says the crowds at the racetrack don't matter anymore. Well, let me just say this. Let me give my opinion. We want you all at the racetrack. However, if you're not going to come, we. We got a billion dollar contract over here. And we're, we're, you know, right now we're averaging two and a half million people every week. And, you know, Talladega's 4.6 million. So, you know, like Kenny Schrader says a lot. You know, we're. We're not trending straight up, but we're going in the right direction. And if you're not going to show up, the TV numbers are looking good. And Kenny, I guarantee these TV numbers are going to be okay. We were on FS1. We were not on the Free. Free Channel, but we were on FS1. I agree with you. Boy, it looked good. And the vibe. Oh, my God. All the reporters. I want you to talk about this. The reporters were saying that the vibe was through the roof, more so this All Star Race than the All Star race, you know, last couple years. Why?
Kenny Schrader
I don't know. I mean, I don't. First off, this, this race, the racing has been phenomenal. And, you know, and Bristol, if, if Larson wins, leads all those laps, well, it's still a phenomenal race because, you don't see someone do that like that all the time. So you know, we just, the racing's been good so it's more viewership, more people watching, more excitement. It's just everything.
Herman Schrader
Okay everybody, so let's wrap that up. We got the Indy 500 to get to but so Joey Logano dominates this race. But what made it so good, Kenny, was when they would drop the green flag, they would run side by side, 3 wide for 10 laps. 10 laps.
Kenny Schrader
They never dropped the green flag. They waved the green flag. Michael Waltrip dropped the yellow flag.
Herman Schrader
Hey, I think Mikey dropped the yellow flag on purpose. He, he got up this morning on, on social media and says that's what I call a mic drop. I mean when you watch the video it's like, ah, I, I, I don't know. But it was a good show.
Kenny Schrader
They had the, we've had yellow flags for the yellow flag before. Harold kinder dropped it. I think Atlanta one time because the next week at driver's meeting it was Mikey might have been the one. It's like now was that yellow for the yellow flag or for that other car that was wrecked? But either way he dropped it. They only waved to green.

Okay, let's talk about the racing, Kenny. We talk about Marcus Smith said, okay, this All Star race is for the fans. And, and he announced a week ahead of time we're going to drop a caution flag. We're not going to let you know when it is. It was very theatrical. So Mikey, he decides with like 25 to go. He, he gets up there and, and he grabs. You know, Mikey won the All Star race with the Wood brothers. He wore his old glasses, you know, he had his hat on backwards and it was theatrical. He played the fans up. They had been drinking beer and everybody knows all you gotta do is drink a little bit of beer and stuff's more fun. He throws that caution flag and at the same time, Marcus Smith and everybody, massive fireworks. Then he drops the flag and then it's then at the same time it's like, what's everybody gonna do? It's this perfect storm. Joey Logano stays out. Kenny. And some come in, you know, and Ryan Blaney stays out, but he gets a right front flat. He fades. So really, okay, it was a determined caution flag, but they had to decide whether to pit or not pit. And buddy, it shaped up as a barn burner.
Kenny Schrader
It was a caution flag that you knew was coming. I forget what they, what they told them. They what, what the gap was when it was going to come. But you knew it was coming. Yeah, sometimes last. How many laps was it?
Herman Schrader
They, they said they were going to throw it at least, you know, it had to, it didn't need to come with two to go, anything like that. So yes, they, they had a perimeter. You're exactly right. They said it's going to be thrown before 20 to go, something like that. Respond right here, everybody. Schrader and I are not perfect. But yes, you're right, Kenny. They did announce it would be Before a bad situation, you know, they're not going to throw the caution with five.
Kenny Schrader
To go, so it's no big deal. You know, it's coming. You knew that before you ever. Before you ever parked your truck there Friday, you already knew about that, right? No, that's one of those calls, that strategy call that, you know, the guys, the crew chiefs are faced with every week and then drivers making up their mind, they want to battle back with those new tires or they want to try to hold on. But what's so neat about it was the surface itself let the guys run too wide, and then someone would sneak in there to make it 3 wide. I mean, Larson did a hell of a job. Was. Wasn't. Was he running third on the last restart or something?
Herman Schrader
Yeah, Kyle Larson come from dead last to seventh by himself. So clearly you can pass everybody. And, yeah, so he. He tries to get a little more aggressive and gets the right rear end of the wall, breaks the toe link. And, yeah, he. He ends up taking himself out a chance to win because like Kyle does, you know, he flirts with disaster. And it's. It's exciting that that was it. Everybody. Christopher Bell goes into one, and. And Joey is blocking him like. Like you would for a million dollars with 10 laps to go. Right? I mean. I mean, it's like, oh, my God, Joey is running him all over the track, and. And he's doing what he's supposed to do. I mean, the crowd's on their feet. They really are. And so finally, Christopher Bell gets this run, and he says, okay, I'm gonna give it back to you. And so Christopher Bell goes into one, goes down that hill, slides up the track, you know, and it's just kind of rubs Joey. And after the race, Joey Logano said, I was so mad that if I could have got back to Chris, I would have spun him out, but I couldn't get to him. And that's what you want, Kenny.
Kenny Schrader
That's what that race is designed for. We've had that, you know, numerous times coming up to the finish of the. Of the All Star Race lot. Lots finishes in the All Star Race like that. But now. Now a lot of those finishes are. Are more like every week, you know, than just. Just the All Star Race.
Herman Schrader
All right, everybody, it was a hell of an All Star Race, but. But we got more to get to. So as Larry McRel say, we beat that like a dead horse for 40 minutes. All right, so Christopher Bell wins a million dollars. And did you know, I think that was the only. That Was only the third all star win for Joe Gibbs. Joe Gibbs, you know, afterwards, said, we have been trying so hard. This race has been tough on us. So real nice, one million dollar. What do you. What do you think, Christopher Bell, you think he's going to get 500 grand? What do you think he's going to get, Kenny?
Kenny Schrader
I don't know anymore, but it's going to be a healthy bonus.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, that's exciting. He'll probably be able to drop, get a new midget for the Chili bowl, that's for sure. Okay, we have to go to the Indy 500. And. And here's why. Never in my life did I think we would see this era come back. Let's admit it now with NASCAR saying everybody's locked in the race. You know, we got charters qualifying, just not that exciting anymore. But the Indy 500, they said, okay, we're going to turn this into two days, and if you're in the top 12, you get to go for the poll. You get to go for the front row. So, Kenny, let me just say this. Well, no, let me say this. Did you watch Indy 500? Did you see any of it?
Kenny Schrader
I saw a little bit of the qualifying, but me, okay, personally, yeah, personally is like. I would be like, Damn it, I'm 12. Couldn't I been 13th? The last thing I'd want to do is go out and go through that again.
Herman Schrader
Because it is death defying. It is for the fans.
Kenny Schrader
This is not for the competitors.
Herman Schrader
Let's talk about the front row. And then we're going to go to all the wrecking, and then we're going to go to the massive penalty. So there. There's a lot to talk about. Okay, we just admitted it. Indy 500 qualifying was a spectacle. It was unbelievable. One car goes home. All right, Kenny, let's say this. Robert Schwarzman is on the pole. He is. He is an Israelian driver. Israel. Israel. His team is from Italy. And. And it's called Prima P R E M A Prima team based in Italy. Okay, so the team is based in Italy. He's from Israel. Now, I'm not done yet. Listen to this. It's the first rookie in 40 years, and this is his first time ever on an oval. Holy crap. He's. He comes to Indy, you know, they start. He's way down on the list. He's definitely not. Nobody's even watching him, but they say he's ballsy. Listen to this. I want to give you the overview real quick. Robert Michaelovich Schwartzman is an Russian Israeli race car driver who Competes in the IndyCar Series for Prima racing. He's known for his fearless driving, has been called the most lethal overtaker on the road to F1, IndyCar and formula racing. Schwarzman is a 2019 F1A Formula 3 champion and finished second and fourth in F1A Formula 2 championship in 2021. 2020, respectfully, he raced for Prima in F2 and F3 from 2018 to 2021 and has multiple F1A Formula 2 wins. So the team decides to come to IndyCar. Do you know anything about Prima?
Kenny Schrader
No, I don't, but I read some or heard someplace the number of champions, they, it was like they've been around for like 40 years and the number of championships they've won, obviously in different divisions, but I mean it's a. They got their act together.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, it's funny because when you go to Willkopedia, whatever it is here it says he's a Russian slash Israeli race car driver. But then motorsport, who I'm getting this from, they, they just simply call him a 25 year old from Israel. But anyway, here's where I'm going with this. It's a very worldly front row. Listen to this one now. Takuma Soto from Japan, he's watching and it's perfect tv. And then of course, Robert Schwarzman, you know, they're, they're showing Takuma. By the way, two time Indy 500 champion Takuma Soto from Japan has won the Indy 500 two times. I think he won it once during COVID Nobody was in the stands. They might have forgot, but he's from Japan and Schwarzman knocks him off. Then you go to the, you know, there's three, three on the front row. Then you go to Pat Award, who lost the Indy 500 on the last corner last year from Mexico. So you got Israel, Japan and Mexico on the front row of the Indy 500. This is really a worldly event, isn't it?
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, oh, definitely. You know, they become more foreigners and more all time. But it started late 50s, early 60s in my mind is when they started coming over. And I mean it was. The race had gained so much tradition and prestige that they started bringing, you know, their little, little rear engine cars over and started the whole revolution, you.
Herman Schrader
Know, and, and this is not. Maybe they've been doing this, but it's kind of, it's kind of wild. Right? So the All Star race is mega successful, super exciting and at the same weekend the Indy 500 is over the top. I mean everybody's talking about the great vibes over the weekend.
Kenny Schrader
It's sold out too. I read the Indianapolis 500 is sold out. Not going to be blacked out in the Indianapolis area, which was only the second time in however many years that it wasn't going to be blacked out.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, let's listen to this. This is good stuff. Roger Penske talking to Bob Pockrass and he says, okay, we're sold out at like250,000 people. This is what Roger's saying. So Roger Penske says we're sold out. Now we got another 92, 000 in the infield. 320, 000 people is what Roger Penske is saying, Kenny. That's. Where do they all park?
Kenny Schrader
They parked all over. But you know, when we went there for the first time in 94, it was sold out too there for first year for sure. And they didn't open the infield. They didn't open the infield because they didn't want this damned old stock cars to have more people there than the Indy cars.
Herman Schrader
How many people think are in the snake pit, Kenny?
Kenny Schrader
I've only been in Atlas 501 time. Yeah, went just a couple years ago. And I run low 500 or watched it. Whatever road bike over there that morning didn't stay real long. The big party now is up in turn three and they've got quite the area up there that. That is the party. I don't know if they still call it Snake Pit or not. Snake Pit used to be pretty rough. I know that, but I don't. I think a lot of that's been cleaned up, but it's still the place to go party.
Herman Schrader
And because you and I race a lot of dirt, they have a permanent. Oh, I guess you could tear it down quick if you want. But they have. They have a dirt track there and the special race is the BC 39. But that's a good race. Okay, so that's our front row. Robert Schwarzman, Takuma Soto and Pat o' Ward.

All right, let's move to all this wrecking. Kenny, everybody's wrecking. Not. Not a couple people. Kyle larson is wrecked two times. Scott McLaughlin who he said Scott McLaughlin said the car was talking to me and I did not listen to it. And he said I should have let up. What's going on, Kenny? What do you know?
Kenny Schrader
I'm in with my dirt car in Canada watching this stuff. Okay. I don't know how many. How many of the. How many wreck? 10, 12 or they wrecked that many? I don't think they wrecked that many, but whatever it is. 234 mile an hour in a circle. Not a circle, a rectangle. And were surprised that we're wrecking. Oh, my God. Can you imagine going into turn one? Well, they saw some 240. I think you know, our entrance speed and having to sneeze or something. Oh, it'd be disastrous. So, yeah, it doesn't take much to. To wreck when you're running that fast. And then they put that damn wall right up against the the track, which. That's the most amazing part to me about the. The rookie being on the pole. He didn't grow up racing with those walls.
Herman Schrader
Okay, so Kenny, the. The average speed. Okay, Robert Schwarzman is on pole average 232.790. That's faster than airplanes. That's insane. That's awesome. Okay, okay, so they're just wrecking. And. And I agree with Kenny. It's because they're hauling ass. That's why. And they gonna wreck. Bob Pockrash reported that the new design that some of these guys, especially Kyle Larson with McLaren, that it's a new design. And, and the new design is a little sketchy. So sometimes you can design something and test it, but I'm sure that handling is going to win this race. You know, hey, last year, Kenny, that race was insane. Joseph New Garden, you know, he passed Pat Award going into three wide. You know, that was a great Indy 500. I don't know if we can top that, but we'll See, okay, as we do Herman Schrader. As we do Herman Schrader. We tape it on Monday. So this is breaking news in the garage area. It just happened, Kenny, one hour ago. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Doug Bowles, who runs Indy cars now has announced that Roger Penske's team are going to start tailback and they're going to find them 100 grand because the violation is kind of like a single source part they messed with a part that they shouldn't have. Now I want to say this. Roger Penske owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He's got a lot to do with IndyCar. He's won 20 Indy 500s. It's almost like Roger is saying, okay, it's, it's a, it's a bad looking pitcher. So just finus. Penalize the hell out of us so they don't start with. Well, Roger owns the track and Roger runs IndyCar. And Kenny, that's not all. Their strategists are out. So, so they start tailback, they lose their strategist, which is big. When to pit, not to pit, how much gas. So what do you think of Roger finding the hell out of himself?
Kenny Schrader
I just glad I wasn't Doug Bowles. I don't know how you get rid of a strategist. There's no radios and telephone kinds of stuff. I don't know how you get rid of a strategist. But you know, it's. I, I really like what NASCAR has. This has got a place. I'm not crazy. What NASCAR did for a couple of the penalties that they had is they went on social media and showed and explained what was wrong and it'd be nice. I would like to see what was wrong with those cars too, just so you can actually see it.
Herman Schrader
Okay, everybody, we, we got a, another, a third big one. And when I say it, you're gonna smile. We're switching gears, everyone. Tony Stewart does it again. It, it's like he, he won one. Now Tony Stewart has won his second. Wally in the big leagues, NHRA Top fuel. There's funny, there's pro stock, funny car, top fuel, the long cars. I mean, can you brag on this guy enough?
Kenny Schrader
Kenny, in my mind, there was never any doubt in my mind at least that Tony wasn't going to win. It was just going to be when was the first one and then how many will there be? Yeah, you know, I mean, that's it. Just what, what happened is what I thought would happen from the get go. It's like when he started running that world outlaw Car. It took him a while, but his first one was at Ashweak and Speedway up in Canada. But then they, they came a lot more frequently.
Herman Schrader
I know you see the side of Tony that, that I see too. For, for all Tony's, you know, we get to see whether it's the happy one, the, the one that's a tough competitor or now he's a father. One thing I know about Tony is that. And do you see the side that I see when he wants to learn something? He, he goes all in like, like a engineer, like he wants. He learns everything about it. Do you see that side of him?
Kenny Schrader
Oh yeah. Well, you got to. If you're gonna try to beat those guys, you gotta, you gotta learn what they know real quick, get to get caught up. But then he just, he just got a lot of natural ability.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. So Tony Stewart, he, he wins in Chicago, Route 66. And he, he, he wins against Justin Ashley. And hell of a, hell of a win just because it's official now. He was never going to be a flute, but he won this one. Just to make sure you all won't say it. Yeah. And you know, he, he runs second in the one at Pomona against Clay Milliken. Then, then he wins at Vegas and then here he is, he wins again. So it had been coming and Tony said that it really turned around. We had him on Kenny conversation just recently to celebrate the 100th Kenny conversation. And I said did you all find something? And he said they really did. When they tested down in Florida they found some stuff out in the clutch that turned their early season around. So there it is everybody. Tony Stewart. But you know what, Kenny? Why does it seem like the prelude to Memorial Day weekend? This was a big weekend for racing, wasn't it?
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. The two outlaw shows up in Canada. One rain out High limits was at Ransomville. I couldn't tell about the crowd there. Lucas oil late models 50,000 to win at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska. Ricky Thornton won that. Then the. I think I might rained out one night but the I think they did. The world outlaw late models three different tracks and on Friday night Tim McCready won which was pretty emotional because it was on the one year anniversary of his dad Barefoot Bob passing away. And then he won again last night at Bedford, Pennsylvania. I think that was a 20 to win. So it's, it was big weekend and that. And like you say for a weekend before Memorial Day it was huge.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And maybe it's been like that, but I don't know why. I just now noticed it. It just seemed like the prelude before the greatest motorsports day in the world. You know, Sunday next week, we'll start out with the Formula One race in Monaco. Then it will be the Indy 500. And then we'll end up with the 600 mile race, Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte. But I don't know, I just don't remember so much racing. And Kenny, let's. Let's stay right there for our fourth big topic. Dirt racing. World of Outlaws. Like you say, Bobby Pierce wins in the World of Outlaw. Late models in Lucas Oil, Ricky Thorton wins it all. And then up there with you. Go ahead.
Kenny Schrader
Pierce must have won Saturday night. He won Saturday night.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Yep, exactly right. And then I got a couple things to ask you there. I saw that David Gravel took both races at Ashwagan. Are the World of Outlaws, are they done in Canada now? Where are you all at? Where's the World of Outlaws?
Kenny Schrader
Well, they got rained out last night. Sunday night at Cornwall. That race was canceled because of the track was canceled Saturday afternoon because the track was already. It was a lot of. A lot of water. We had a play day there this morning, which was canceled. It was just too wet. And then they go back to Ohio or someplace this weekend. But yeah, they had three shows up there. And then the High Limits had two, I believe Ransomville. Another one got maybe Utica, Rome, it got canceled because of weather. So if you weren't, you know, you could. Could have raced five times if you were running outlaws and High Limits.
Herman Schrader
I saw Brad Sweet, you know, Brad Sweet and Kyle Larson, they own High Limit. I saw Brad Sweet on social media say welcome to the rain Tour. That's always a tough deal. Tough pill to swallow when everything gets rained out. But, hey, are you proud of me? I didn't forget dirt racing this weekend.
Kenny Schrader
No, you did good. I wasn't gonna let you.
Herman Schrader
Kenny. What else she got? When? When did you say you were coming home? That was an hour ago. I already forgot.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, sometime Sunday we race. We have a play day. Sunset Speedway on Tuesday. We have a play day at South Buxton Speedway on Wednesday. Meet up with Joey and the other hauler Wednesday night, Thursday morning, switch out stuff, these boys go home. And we go to Hilltop Speedway to race Friday and Tyler county to race Saturday with our little lethal Modified, which is feeling great Saturday night.
Herman Schrader

Kenny Schrader
Oh, man, I love them. Guys, I got that. I'll send you that picture of Justin and I.
Herman Schrader
Yes, do that. Yeah, we need to get it to Charlie because he'll edit it in and. All right, everybody.
Kenny Schrader
Charlie. Right now. But, man, I've. When Mike came to Lake Hill, had to be. I don't know, when it was 74 or something.
Herman Schrader
And he's writing this down.
Kenny Schrader
He's asking me. He said, hey, who can I put fort Hoosiers on? Because we were all run Firestones. So who can I put four Hoosiers on? Hell, he said I'd even do two cars. So I was trying to think who he could put them on. And I said, well, heck, put them on Tom Hannox in my car. And he did. And I guarantee you that was a substantial part of his net worth at the time. Wow. Those eight tires. And we ran in. We ran into each other and flattened some of them. I just. Him and Dorothy. My daughter Dorothy, she's. We had a couple of. Dorothy. Very important. Dorothy's in her life. And Dorothy Allgaier is one of them that she's named after.
Herman Schrader
I got her in my notes. Charlie, we might have to edit this out and put it. Put it in the. The show because. All right, there's so much more to talk about. One of our. One of our better Herman Schraders, man. And we had a lot to talk about. All right, until the next Herman Schrader show. We'll see you later, everybody.
