Well, what? He's winning races despite being in in other people's cars. So it can't be that bad, right?

Yeah. Kenny Schrader calls me yesterday, and we're talking, like, late at night. Herman, can you call Charlie? I'm just not going to be able to make it on Herman Schrader. It really upsets me. So I talk him off the ledge. I'm like, kenny, it's okay.

You know, when we talked about this, you know Mike Davis from Dirty Mo Media. Mike said, listen, we want to have fun if this is not a job. So Kenny Schrader is incredibly busy, everybody, and he's making his way home, and then he's jumping on an airplane and. But Kenny Schrader said he'll be back next week, so. Yeah. What about you, Charlie? What have you been up to?

Well, nice little quick vacation back to Ohio, where I'm from. So we did two days in Toledo. That's where my parents still live. We did one day in Medina, Ohio. That's where my brother lives. That's kind of about 30 minutes from Cleveland. It was my niece's first birthday, but it was a. A fun trip. How about this? We went to the drive in. Hadn't been to a drive in probably 20 years. There's a drive in in Toledo. My wife had never been to a drive in in her life. I won't say her age, but she's, she's not super young, and my kids have never been.

[Kenny Schrader]

Did you rob the cradle, Charlie?

[Charlie Marlo]

No, I didn't.

[Kenny Schrader]

I didn't. She's.

[Charlie Marlo]

She's a little bit younger, but I was surprised that she had never been to a drive in in her life.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah, well, they're rare. You. You hardly see them. And when you do, it's like, oh, look, you know, so. But boy, those were a lot of fun back in our day. So with, with brother Rusty and our old, you know, racing team, when we would run ASA or usec, we would literally unhook the trailer because we had a big newspaper delivery truck and that was our hauler. And we, you know, they'd have those nights at the drive, drive ins, you know, movie theaters, and they say a car full, we'd bring a truck full, we'd pile everybody in and they'd still have to let us in. But, you know, I know you're from Ohio and I, I don't think I've ever asked you this question. You've been in St. Louis. How many years have you been in St. Louis, Missouri?

[Charlie Marlo]

2008. So what is that, 17 years?

[Kenny Schrader]

Do you. You're a sports guy. That's where you and I met you. You worked for Channel 2 News right here in St. Louis for 14 years or so. Do you, do you still cheer on the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals? I mean, you can be honest.

[Charlie Marlo]

Sure. So here's the deal. Where I'm from, literally the end of my street is the state of Michigan. Oh, so we're way closer to Detroit. So we're way more of a Detroit sports town. We're an hour from Detroit, two hours from Cleveland, three hours from Cincinnati. So I always say Toledo is like two thirds Detroit sports fans and about a third Cleveland sports fans. There's hardly any Cincinnati fans up where I live.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah, and. And you Reminded me that your, Your, Your introduction to NASCAR was because your sports station sent you to the Michigan International Speedway.

[Charlie Marlo]

Yeah, so when I worked in Lansing for two years, this would have been 06 07. And you got. Brooklyn is in our market, so we had two cup races. We did a ton of NASCAR coverage for those years.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah. Hey, did you know they have a. They have a little jail inside the infield at Michigan International Speedway.

[Charlie Marlo]

Yes, I've heard about that. Yep.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah. So for everybody going to Michigan, be careful with your partying. They're going to treat you like Philadelphia. You know, they got it. They gotta. They got a jail at Philadelphia Eagles, the football stadium. You. You go too, rowdy. They got a jail. Have you heard any stories about that jail at the Eagles stadium?

[Charlie Marlo]

There's all kinds of. All the stories going back of what they threw. They threw snowballs at Santa Claus. It does seem like, man, these NFL games, it seems like most of the fights are at the NFL games. People just get there early, tailgate, drink all freaking day, and then just start throwing hands at each other.

[Kenny Schrader]

I think you make a good point. The problem is tailgating. They're lit, they're sauced before they, the game even starts, they're ready to fight. Okay, Charlie, what did I do? I had a wonderful time at Sturgis. I flew into Rapid City, South Dakota, and you know Sturgis, the town of Sturgis, The Sturgis rally. 85 years. And buddy, it was packed. This year, my fifth straight year, I'm a newbie, I admit it, but I'm happy I found it. And the owner of the Buffalo Chip, I even said to him, I said, man, I said, we, we can hardly get up to 65 mile an hour because the roads are so crowded. You know, the back roads, sometimes you'll find a two mile straight line stretch and we'll gas them up. There's usually about 15 of us that ride. You know, brother Rusty, Stephen, Wallace, Josh, everybody with Southern Country Custom. But the owner of the Buffalo Chip, he's a good guy. And he goes, oh, yeah, 85 years. Every five years. So he said, I assume the 90th will be big, but Sturgis was awesome. Had a mixture of weather. Man, when it was hot, it was hot. I mean, even when we rode, we'd leave at 10:30 every morning and Rusty or Stephen would, you know, they chart a course out. And Buddy, when we would get back my pants, my underwear were soaked because brother Rusty said, nobody's allowed to wear shorts. You don't wear shorts. So respond right here, everybody. Are you allowed to wear shorts if you ride a Harley, or is that too feminine? You know, what do you think, Charlie?

[Charlie Marlo]

Yeah, I think. I think it's hard to look tough with shorts. You have to. You have to be pretty jacked with your legs, with your calves. But I would say for motorcycles, you probably should never wear shorts. But I have a. I have a lot of people who say they never wear shorts for that exact reason that it's hard to look tough in shorts.

[Kenny Schrader]

Okay, I'm gonna attempt to pull something off, and I know everybody is on Dirty Mo podcast. They're not going to be able to see this, but I wore shorts. Kim and I went to Wisconsin Dells about two weeks ago, and we were on the Kimberly Marie. That is the name of her trike. Of course, I have my two wheeler and. But I didn't get my leg away from the pipe. But it was on my bike. But I wore shorts. Wore shorts on the Kimberly Marie. Going to the Dallas now. I want to show you this, Charlie. I'm going to show you my leg. This is why you don't wear shorts. Oh, you see that? Yes, right there, everybody. That's called an owie.

[Charlie Marlo]

Is that a burn or a bruise?

[Kenny Schrader]

It's a burn.

Okay.

And the scab has finally fell off. So when I got off my two wheeler, you know, just was working on the Sunoco dirt car and said, I get on my two wheeler and go up and eat lunch at Twisted Tavern or go down to Detours, and I didn't pull my leg away because I was wearing shorts. So I. I wore the shorts on the way to the Dells, too. And I told Stephen, we got to do something. We got to make a. A shield. And he goes, uncle Kenny, don't tell me you're wearing shorts. I said, Steve is 110 degrees. He goes, oh, God. Dad would go back crazy. So, okay, I like your input on that. Should not wear shorts. So Sturgis was awesome. Brother Rusty raised five. A little over $500,000.

[Charlie Marlo]

That's awesome.

[Kenny Schrader]

And Charlie, NASCAR was there. NASCAR foundation executives, they were there. And Angie Skinner had Brad Gilly there. SiriusXM Channel 90 was there, the whole area. Rusty is now a fixture. He's been here 20, 22 years straight. The town of Deadwood, they love Rusty Wallace. And the money, half the money goes to the NASCAR foundation, but the other half goes to the Rapid City, South Dakota Special Olympics. And they got a name called the Flames. And so, you know, Rusty doesn't take any of It. They auctioned off one of their motorcycles. $135,000.

Dang. That's awesome.

[Kenny Schrader]

There's some wealthy people, Charlie.

[Charlie Marlo]

Yes, there are.

[Kenny Schrader]

So, okay, so then I, I went out there on Tuesday, came back on Friday and Saturday. I went to. I went to Highland Speedway, Highland, Illinois run second. But I gotta tell you, this was, this was a hell of a race. This guy come by me about halfway through the race. I'm leading it, and he blows by me. I'm like, damn, I don't have nothing for this guy. What was about eight to go, I start catching him. And we're coming to the checkered flag and we're side by side going into the last corner. I come off the last corner and now, you know, he's panicking, so he's really gassing it up off the corner. And it was a big night. 29 cars. 29 cars. Only 20 start. So they had qualifiers and had a good crowd. I come off that last corner, I'm like, there's nobody there. But I think he's gonna come back. And sure enough, Charlie, he beats me by 0.10. 1/10. Or a foot. Or a foot. So, yeah, went to Sturgis, went to Highland.

Okay, real quick. I gotta backtrack, though. You got to tell us about some celebs. I saw you with Shooter McGavin. Who else was out there?

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah, good point. We had. Well, let me look at my picture here. Shooter McGavin has become a superstar, you know, from happy one and two. So I don't know where he fits in, but he's there every year. He's so nice. Shooter McGavin's there. Now listen, the other superstar, you have to be a Moto GP guy. Just Google Freddie Spencer. Fast Freddy. Fast Freddy is a three time world champion. And because I know, you know, it's like, wow, he outrun Kenny Roberts by two points to win a championship. We had Casey Mears out there. That was awesome. Of course, Mike Skinner. Yeah. All right, everybody, we're going NASCAR racing, but we got dirt racing. And boy, do we got some dirt racing this year. But holy moly, Charlie. This NASCAR weekend. So you were up in Ohio. What, what stood out? What, what did you. I mean, we got our list, but what do you know?

[Charlie Marlo]

Okay, so obviously the Connor Zillich fall, everybody's talking about that as they should. And as somebody who I also, I broke my collarbone 25 years ago snowboarding. So I have a little insight on, on the recovery from that. And then also just SVG winning. I always find it funny to gauge how the fans basically gauge every race. And it is kind of funny now. Look, I think a lot of times they're complaining if you can't pass at certain tracks. But it does seem like everybody was super excited about svg. He was a great story. He won a couple of road course races, but now it's like he's winning too much, right? Like he was A great story, but it's like, okay, now let somebody else win. I almost feel like that's kind of how NASCAR fans are looking at it.

[Kenny Schrader]

What is it with society? Everybody respond right here. Charlie, you got the comment section. Light it up. I mean, I agree with you, Charlie, but what do you think, everybody? I agree. You know, we love, oh, Jimmy Johnson. He's outrunning Jeff Gordon. Well, by the third championship in a row, they literally. And my mama said hate's a bad word. Capital H, A, D, E. They did. And you know what's sad? I mean, I, I really feel this way. I love Jimmy Johnson because he's so nice, but this is sad to say the only people that recognize Jimmy Johnson are the greats inside the sport. Whenever Jimmy goes to, you know, the black tie affairs and gets recognized, that's. That's the only place Jimmy Johnson gets recognized or if he goes overseas to Goodwood. Greats recognize greats, but it's sad to say, the people in America, they seem, but boy, they just don't. They will not recognize Jimmy Johnson. You know, he's laughing all the way to the bank. He doesn't need any approval, but the fans just despise Jimmy Johnson for just winning so much. You know, I think that's the case. I think you're right. I, I don't. I think people, like, when you win one or two, you're from a different country. You're from New Zealand, SVG, but now you've won. Listen to this stat, Charlie. SVG has ran 38 cup races. 38. He's won five. That's insane. That, that's hard to do. That's an elite group.

That's the thing. I feel like we've had road course ringers before, but nobody has done it like SVG is doing it. So the whole idea of being a one trick pony and all that, I, I would. I think it's a fun debate. Regardless, if he wins one, I can see people going, oh, should he get in the playoffs with one? I mean, when he wins every freaking one, like, he's shutting everybody up.

So Richard Petty has got a really nice podcast out, and this week's Richard Petty podcast really made me go, wow, 88 years old and he's doing podcasts. I'm very impressed by Richard Petty because he's like Warren Buffett. He's staying with the times. He's not, he's not acting old. And Richard Petty and Dale Linman, his legendary crew chief, they do this podcast together. And when Richard Petty gives You credit you've done something. Richard Petty recognizes greatness. Richard Petty says it's all svg. And Richard says that the way you can tell it is, you know, Ross Chastain's his teammate, the one car over there, you know, at Track House. And he says, but, but one thing I. I like that Richard said. He goes, now you flip it and you go to the. The ovals. And then the one car, you know, Ross Chastain, then he's. He's better than svg. But Charlie, he's. He. He's incredible. And, you know, my opinion is when SVG comes from New Zealand, same thing comes across. You know, everybody wants to come to America. I said that on Coffee with Kenny. The musical groups, you know, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, you go right down the list. They all go, man, you got it. You got to go to America, because that's where they got it going on. America's got it going on. Charlie, can you blame SVG for wanting to come to America and go to nascar?

Not at all. And I also think. I think a lot of credit should go to Justin Marks and Track House, because, look, all these teams are just reacting to the schedule. It was very smart. If, If. If NASCAR is going to run six road course races and it's win to get in, well, then why the hell wouldn't you grab a road course ringer? I bet you other teams are kind of jealous that they didn't think of that sooner. It. It makes sense. Now, if you want to have the debate, should there be six? I think, again, that's a fun argument to have, but as long as there's six, it makes perfect sense for teams to try to grab a guy like svg.

So we've given our opinion. Let's move forward a little bit here. Here's. Here's. Here's another reason the fans are like, damn, SVG wins by 11 seconds. Charlie, is that a bad race or do people go, man, that's greatness?

[Charlie Marlo]

I think this race also, with the lack of passing, and we can bring up the. The Jeff Gluck poll, which I do think is interesting, and it got a really, really low score. I think sometimes with those polls, though, a great finish can bail out maybe a poor race and vice versa. But the fact that there wasn't a ton of passing and he just absolutely dominated. I think that's why, you see, I think it was like, I'll look it up. Something like, I think 71% thought it was not a good race.

Well, it was too clean. Yeah, it it was too clean. The wrecks we had were just little bobo wrecks. You know, the guy, you know, kind of bumped somebody and sent him into the tires there. There was no caution in the first and second stage. And I think maybe at the very end of the sec, I mean, this race went green. So, I mean, in. In. I'll say it this way, in a new world we're in. And I always tell everybody where we go to Monster Jam, and the trucks are doing backflips and. And snowmobile racing is doing backflips. Snowmobiles are doing flips. Now, how do you compete with that, Charlie? So it's sad to say, but when you have a clean race and you don't give people time to go pee or get a beer, they're pissed, man. So SVG wins by 11 seconds. But now we're gonna get to dirt racing later on in the show. But it was the week of boredom, because the most famous dirt race in America, the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, Iowa, Ryan Timms won by a straightaway. Now, the dirt racing people, they're quick to defend themselves. I'm like, it was a boring race, and they're like, oh, yeah. But the race for second and third, I'm like, stop it. Stop it. We say the same thing in nascar, and you don't like it. So it was the week of greatness is what I call it. And we'll talk about Ryan Timms later. But he won the Knoxville Nationals by a straightaway. Well, okay, let's just wait till we get to Connor Zillich, and we're gonna. We're gonna talk about track house. Charlie, you brought it up. I don't know if you see where I'm going with this, but it looks like track house is betting on the come because you got svg. And I don't think it's, you know, a secret. We all know that Daniel Suarez is leaving, and it appears Connor Zillich is gonna take, you know, Daniel Soares's place. So that means guess who's teammates, Charlie.

[Charlie Marlo]

Right? Two of the best road course racers you got on the same team.

Holy crap. Okay, everybody, I think we're done with the Cup Series. It was just that boring of a race. There, I said it. You all love me now. Wallace finally talked bad about nascar, but okay, let's switch gears. Charlie, did you watch any of that Xfinity race?

[Charlie Marlo]

I didn't watch a ton of it, but I've watched a lot of the replays, a lot of the highlights. Obviously, not just Connor Zillich falling down. But of course, Austin Hill seems to always be in the news, and there was a lot of reaction to that. So there's always some. Some spice.

[Kenny Schrader]

Let's do the segue. Okay. We just talked about Connor Zillich and SVG becoming teammates at trackhouse because we just said Connor's gonna replace Daniel Suarez right at track house. So here comes. You know, Connor Zillich has got an incredibly fast car in the Xfinity series, and he's running down SVG in the Xfinity series on Saturday. Here comes Connor Zillich instead of con. Connor's so fast, he just. Like when you got a fast car, you just go, go. He wrecks his teammate. Connor Zillis Rex svg. He don't mean to, but he just does. So this is going to be a look inside the cup series. Charlie, do you think in cup next year, do you think it's going to be Connor Zillich and SVG, the two teammates going at it?

[Charlie Marlo]

Oh, 100%. And they already. They already are in some of these Xfinity races. Didn't it happen the other way several weeks back, right, where SVG kind of bumped Connor in one of those Xfinity races? I can't remember which track it was at, but yeah, I mean, I think. I think Connor and Cup next year is going to have chances to win at the road courses. I'm sure on the ovals it'll take him a little more, but, man, I think that's going to be super fun to watch.

[Kenny Schrader]

Okay, I agree. All right, let's, let's. There's a little bit to talk about. The. The Xfinity race was like, a lot more exciting. So Connor Zillich wins the race and he. And he wins this thing just like SVG does. Every time you look up this counterzilla, she's got like a fiver, six second lead, basically. If you're watching tv, the whole front straight away, you know, and here comes Connor Zilch off the last corner. And Connor's going into the first corner, and there's the second place car. So we just talked about, as he comes through the pack, he gets into his teammate. You really don't hear anything about it because SVGs on. On pole, he's starting first for the cup race. Some of these cup drivers, they go, little bitty Xfinity car. The little bitty Xfinity car. I'm really worried about tomorrow. So svg, he lets it go. Connor wins the race. But in the middle of the race. What's the deal with Austin Hill?

[Charlie Marlo]

He just seems so aggressive. You know, Denny Hamlin said it perfectly that you just lost the benefit of the doubt at this point. It seems like I was listening to Denny Hamlin's podcast here on. On Dirty Mo Media Actions Detrimental. I was watching the broadcast and hearing Jamie McMurray also said that they didn't think he did it on purpose, but he's just overly aggressive on the part of that track where it funnels in and you have no room. And then what Denny said also is that your spotters can't help you there in that particular spot. Your spotters really can't see who's behind you or in front of you.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah, I mean, I've got. I have a lot of laps around that track, and there's two areas that funnel in that make you go, damn, there is no room here. The narrowest part of the racetrack is going up through the S's. You know, the. It's a fun area of the track. But, boy, when somebody, like, if somebody runs through their side by side, it's like, you should not be going through the esses side by side. And if you do go through side by side, the third or fourth car behind you, they're going to get a good advantage as you get through the esses, because when you're side by side, you got to slow up. So the guys behind you, they're going to get a run on you. And then like you just said, the other narrow spot, and it's. It's not that narrow, but they let you fan out off that last corner. They let you get all this speed, and that is the second narrowest part. And as Austin Hill, he's trying to peek around the outside of Michael McDowell, who's, I guess, running an Xfinity car. He's like, oh, there's a wall and he's got to turn right because Austin Hill's either going to hit the wall or. And he's got to turn right and he just clipped him. And Buddy, it was. Did you see that? Did you see the highlights?

[Charlie Marlo]

Oh, it was just a crazy wreck. However many cars got involved. What is it? Was it all of them? What I found, I chuckled when I heard it because, you know, some of these guys on the radio, they'll get real hot. Blaney, they'll cuss. Logano, they'll. They'll say some things and piss some people off. And McDowell, he's such a nice guy. Also, he just said it in such a matter of fact way like, why would he do that? Why would he do that? I just thought it was funny the way he reacted.

[Kenny Schrader]

You bring up a Good point. Michael McDowell is a man of the Lord. But they'll race you like the devil. But Most likely Michael McDowell gonna watch his tongue. Fork and tongue, as the Bible says. And Michael's always in, you know, mro, motor racing outreach. We, we love religion. We love. I do. And, but you know, I'm, I'm gonna cuss, ask for forgiveness. Michael's so, so I'm laughing on the inside. Fun. I'm having fun with Michael because here's Michael being constrained. Constraint, you know, he's, he's holding his tongue. Oh, that really irked me. Darn it. Why did he do that? Me, I'm like, you mother.

That's why I thought it was so funny. I'm like, who reacts like that? It was just like you said, it's a man of the Lord. It's a guy who can bite his tongue even when he's super pissed.

Well, first of all, I mean, the fact that he's for the most part. Okay, we know he has a broken clavicle, but when you saw that fall and, and the way the camera angles are, were you couldn't really see exactly how he felt. But man, to fall on your head or neck. And by the way. So I grew up in a family. Both my parents worked at hospitals. I heard of every story growing up of people falling and terrible accidents and paralysis. So that could have been 10 times worse. So he's really lucky to walk away the way he did.

[Kenny Schrader]

I. I just want to say something real quick. I want you to keep going, but I am really fortunate now you're, you know, you're. You're in the TV business. I'm really glad that TV pulled away and didn't show his head, because I compare Connor when he. When he got up on the car, he explained that the window net was still on the door. He started, you know, the water was flowing. When his leg got. When his leg fell down inside the car, his. His head come down like a sledgehammer, you know, like. Like you're taking a hammer. And I turned away. When I watched the replay, I was like, oh, God. So go ahead.

[Charlie Marlo]

No, I was just saying the fact that if you land on your neck like that, your head, I mean, you. You could be paralyzed. And when you don't know what's happening at first, you're. You're kind of thinking, I'm thinking, here's the guy who's the next big thing, probably the. The biggest NASCAR next big thing superstar that I can remember again since. Who, Joey Logano. Just imagine if something like that would have been so bad, that would have potentially wrecked his career and life. So the fact that he's good and he might race here in a week or two is pretty amazing.

[Kenny Schrader]

Connor Zillich has the week off, which is going to bode well for him. But I think one of the biggest things he did to argue his case that he's okay is he showed up on Sunday during the cup race, got on TV and did not miss a beat. I was shocked how well spoken he was. You could look in his eyes. Nothing was glazed over. That really bodes well for him. Now NASCAR is going to be looking for any type of delayed brain injury. You know, I guess they would not have released him out of the hospital if they thought he had a brain swell or anything like that. So to me, unbelievably lucky. So that, that, that is one that could have really went bad. And Charlie, do you think this is going to calm down drivers getting on top, their cars? Can they do the same thing? I mean, listen, Jeff Burton said it one time. I'll never forget it, when we were putting up the safer Barriers. Jeff Burton said we're always going to find the most dangerous part of the racetrack. Now, has Connor Zillich showed the most dangerous part of celebrating?

[Charlie Marlo]

Well, you would know better than I. I mean, has this happened before, anything like this? I can't remember anything like this happening in the last, what, 20, 25 years when I would have been paying attention to NASCAR and sports. So I think, I think this is a one off. But in a way, if you can draw a positive from anything, I think that's going to make, make everybody just take a couple extra seconds getting their footing. Whenever they're getting on top of the car right at, at, at the front stretch, if they're doing the burnouts and then also in victory lane, I think it'll give everybody just a little pause just to make sure that they got their, their footing before they get up there.

[Kenny Schrader]

And on our, our own dirty mo media here on the Monday show, you know, Tommy Baldwin, Connor Zilich was on that too.

[Charlie Marlo]

Door bumper clear.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah. So Connor Zilich makes the media rounds. He's up early Monday morning. And, and you know, Spotter there, he says, hey, our team had a meeting. You know, teams are already saying no more of that, guys. I think it's a little disappointing, but, but I, I do understand it. Listen, you can celebrate. You can celebrate. Carl Edwards did those backflips. You can celebrate. I mean, I tell you, for my sponsor, for my uniform, anytime I win in a dirt race, I, I do get up on my door side and I'm going to continue to do it because I'm not spraying water on my door side. But still, it's going to make me think, and in my older age, I do get up there a little more gingerly. But teams are now saying in NASCAR that we're done doing that, guys, because you got so much fluid, water, Gatorade, whatever the sports drink is NASCAR's hawking now, it's all over the car and it's, it's dangerous. They don't want to lose their drivers. So as Larry McReynold said, I think we beat that to death.

[Charlie Marlo]

Yeah. What I'm, what I'm curious about is the pain he'll be dealing with now. I don't know if you heard, Shane Van Gisbergen also broke his clavicle. He said, I think it was four years ago. And he said he had a, I believe a plate put in. Like I said, I, I broke mine 25 years ago. Snowboarding. I remember anything I did rattled that, that thing. So it'll be interesting in a couple weeks. I'm sure he can deal with the pain. And Shane Van Gisbergen said, hey, with the right doctors and the right drugs, you'll probably be able to get through there. But he also mentioned putting on the strap, putting on the seatbelt. Really kind of jostled that. So I think, I think Connor will be okay, but I think he's going to deal with some, some pain for a few weeks for sure.

[Kenny Schrader]

I know opinions are out there in the running rampant, but as a race car driver, okay, he's already in the playoffs. He'll get a waiver. Connor and I, and I know Justin Marks and everybody, track house and I know NASCAR liaison. Take a month off, Buddy. Get ready for. Well, Charlie, can you check it out? How much longer till the Xfinity playoffs? How much if he took off until the playoffs start, Would it be three weeks? A month? I'm saying take off. You've done won all the damn races. You've won four out of the last five, Connor. But I. That's what I would do. I would take all the way off until the playoffs start.

[Charlie Marlo]

Okay, so here we go. Okay, we got. This is for Xfinity. So like you said, Xfinity is off this week.

[Kenny Schrader]

So that's one week.

[Charlie Marlo]

Yep. You got, you got daytona weekend of the 22nd of August. You got Portland weekend of the 30th. Of course you have right here in St. Louis, Worldwide Technology Raceway, September 6th for Xfinity and then the playoffs start for xfinity at Bristol September 12th. So basically a full what? A full month.

[Kenny Schrader]

Full month. Take it off. Take it off. I, I love St. Louis. I'd like to see Connor here, but take it. Take the full month off. And I'm hoping that's what they do. I said it right here. Take a full month off. Because when you go to Bristol, buddy, that's one of going to be one of the hardest races of the year for him. That's going to be one of the hardest races of the year for Connor. The, the G forces, you know, the seat belt being tight, they're going to have to make something to where the. The belt, you know, the HANS device are going to have to create some type of hollow channel there so it doesn't sit on there. They, they got carbon fiber. They can make anything they need to. So take the full month off, Connor. Get ready for Bristol, because that's going to be a test. Okay, everybody, I think we did it. And this next one, Charlie, do you know who Tristan McKee is.

I do now, yes. Was he about 15?

He just turned 15 like six, eight days ago. Tristan McKee is a 14 year old child. He just turned 15. He was born August 3rd, 2010. So today is August 12th. So 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. We tape this well, today's Tuesday 9. He's, he's 15 years old. Nine days. And actually when the race happened it was like he was 15 years old only for seven days. And he won the ARCA race. Charlie, what the hell is going on with society? Why are we fast tracking everything in life? I mean everything. What it is it amazement? Is it because, oh, he's, he's six years old. He'd won the Daytona 500. When is this gonna stop?

[Charlie Marlo]

I don't think it'll ever stop. So I have a theory on this. As now a parent, I have a, a seven year old daughter, four year old son. I think a lot of it has to do with social media. I really do. To me, a lot of it has to do with keeping up with the Joneses. I think if, if you're on Instagram, let's say you have a, a six year old son. If you see some other mom or dad posting that your, your son is getting special pitching lessons or special hitting lessons and has a brand new bat or whatever it is like you're thinking, oh, do I need to get my kid that bat? Do I need to get my kid.

[Kenny Schrader]

I just lessons 400 bat some pink.

[Charlie Marlo]

Right? I think a lot of it is honestly keeping up with the Joneses on social media. I really do.

[Kenny Schrader]

Good point. Because Kim said, you know, we, we went in on a, on a bat and this pink bat, it's like the bat for Jet. Our. He's a good player, my grand boy. Jet. The threat Jet louder. But yeah, I just went through it, so maybe you got something. So anyway, we're at Watkins Glenn, everybody. Tristan McKee, 15 years old, born August 23, 2010. That's insane. Wins the Watkins Glenn race. I have no problem with young talent zero. But NASCAR put a rule in place because of Kyle Busch. He won not, not the Super Speedway, but Joliet. There was a, there was a little track, smaller track, Joliet. And Kyle Busch won at 16. And NASCAR said okay, that's it. So I'm trying to figure out in my mind, see, I don't know everything. Imagine that. How the hell is nascar? NASCAR owns arca. How did they. I mean, it's fine. I think it's Grady one don't get me wrong, everybody. I think it's fine that Tristan won at 14 years old because see, remember he was 14 year old a lot longer than he was 15. So I like to exaggerate everything. Charlie. So I'm exaggerating. He's 14 years old. How does NASCAR, if they own ARCA, how does he get to run ARCA at 14? But you can't run Xfinity.

[Charlie Marlo]

I'm okay with that though. I feel like you have to have age limits in certain, in certain series. So I'm okay with the age limit being lower on the lower series. And then as you graduate up, I don't think you want 15 year olds in the top three series. Right. I don't think you want even 16 year olds. I know you have to kind of work your way up and trucks is different and all that. So I'm, I'm okay with that. You don't want 15 year olds kind of buying their way into cup and could, could really get hurt. But this is fine for me.

[Kenny Schrader]

The comedy in me. See, I, I grew up on Saturday Night Live where you exaggerate everything. The comedy in me goes, hey, you're 14 years old. Go ahead and wreck all the 50 year old drivers in Arca, but don't wreck them in the Xfinity series. I mean, yeah, go ahead and wreck in Arca, but just don't do it, you know, in Xfinity. But okay, so Tristan McKee, he wins at 14 years old, just turned 15. Listen, it's okay, but wow, just amazing, just unbelievable nowadays. And I got no problem with it. I'm not mad about it. I will say that I remember the day. You're young, Charlie. How old are you?

[Charlie Marlo]

I'm six. I'll be 62 here in a little bit. August 23rd. I remember seeing Tiger woods come on the Johnny Carson show at like 6 years old and knocking the hell out of the ball. Like, you know, a nine iron or whatever, you know, child size, nine iron and making the ball go everywhere he wanted. And I feel like that's when it started then, then it was Jeff Gordon at 13 years old winning and full blown sprint cars. It is amazing. Charlie, do you believe that some children develop way quicker than other children?

[Charlie Marlo]

For sure, absolutely. And then also when you get to be teenagers, you got kids who hit puberty. Now we're not talking about racing, I'm talking about other sports. But it's always funny to me. Everybody had that kid that hit puberty first, right? And they played baseball, looked like they had A full beard on in 12, 13, like they were driving to the park hitting bomb. But then they never got any bigger. Everybody else, you know, grew. And by the time they were 16, 17, everybody else had. Had caught up.

[Kenny Schrader]

Charlie, I'm gonna go ahead and say it because I'm the one with the balls and also because I know people have seen what I've seen, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it. Junior high, I went to Merrimack Heights one through six in my day. Then seventh, eighth, and ninth at Sekman in Imperial, Missouri. And you got extra points if you took a shower because they knew we were shy and they were trying to convince us to take showers so we don't smell. So you do gym and you go to the locker room and you're like, there's no way in hell I'm going to take my clothes off and take a shower. However, there was a group of kids that did it because they grew up right, and their mom and dads taught them nothing to be ashamed of. Charlie's face is cherry red.

[Charlie Marlo]

No. Hey, we all went through that. We all went through that back in the showers, whatever it is. You'd see the kids who got the armpit hair first. You kind of knew anything. Hey, you knew. Let's just say you knew. You knew if you were behind the curve for sure.

[Kenny Schrader]

Yes, I was behind the curve. I'm the runt of the litter. Rusty's really big. Mike, as my mom would say. My brother Mike Wallace. Mom said, mike the moose. And then there's me. That's when I ride my Harley. Stephen said, uncle Kenny, I got this all carbon fiber Harley. I'm like, perfect. 120 pounds lighter, and I love it. But, man, I'll never forget Sekman. I was like, you know, holy crap, look at this kid. He's got hair all over him. I don't got a stitch of hair on me. So that's my story. And you're right, Charlie. Kids do develop quicker than other kids. You know, Jeff Gordon's super hairy. Maybe that's why he's so good. He. He was mature at nine.

[Charlie Marlo]

You know, this is kind of. Kind of random, but you've heard of the. The soccer star Messi?

[Kenny Schrader]

Yeah.

[Charlie Marlo]

Now people can. People can look this up.

It's pretty incredible. Apparently, when he was a kid, he was so small that they actually gave him some hormones to make him bigger just for. For basic life. And a lot of people think. And again, you can not take my word for it. You guys can all, can all look this up. A lot of people think some of the, the human growth type hormone stuff that he got as a kid is one of the reasons that he's so amazing as a soccer player now.

[Kenny Schrader]

Wow.

[Charlie Marlo]

Because he was so small, though. That's why he got it.

[Kenny Schrader]

I just learned a lot. Well, it's like in my family, my first grandbaby, Charlotte, we call her Lottie. She's awesome. God, she's a wonderful kid. So sweet. But she, she's tall. She's gonna be like her other grandpa, big Jack, you know, And I always tease, you're gonna look Jack in the face, and Jack is every bit of. My God, six, seven. But then there's Mila, her sister. And Mila is dainty and tiny. So, yeah, there you go, everybody. Children develop quicker than other children. And I guess the brain does the same thing. So Tristan McKee, 14 years old, just turns 15 by 7 and beats grown men. Charlie, I just can't get over that. I mean, we're. When I was 14, 15 years. And yeah, I was driving, but I wasn't. I wasn't even close. Not even within the realm of running NASCAR's fourth highest circuit. You know, you got cup, got Xfinity, got truck, and then you have arca. And, and let me tell you, the ARCA cars are good nowadays, their quality. The old ARCA days are over, everybody. The old ARCA days are over. All these ARCA cars are good cars. And. Okay, well, I didn't think we were gonna go there, but we did. Tristan McKee, he developed really quick. I wonder if he's hairy. I haven't had a. I don't know if he's got a beard or, or what.

15 CI. I hit my growth spurt. I remember it was, it was summer before my junior year, so I probably wasn't. I was 16 when I really started to grow.

They started 24 cars, $15,000 to start. That's how big this race is. And it's crazy because it's the week of boredom. Let me draw the parallel, Charlie. So SVG and Connor Zillich, they blow the competition out. And over here for the Knoxville Nationals, Ryan, Tim's youngest driver since 1964, wins the Knoxville Nationals by one, straightaway, leads wire to wire, starts on the pole, leads it off. Charlie, have you seen coincidences like this in sports where maybe a Super bowl or a World Series is a blowout? Teams win in four. What went on this week? Everything was a blowout.

Yeah, I. I think it just happens randomly like that. It was just. Just one of those weeks. Yeah, the super bowl last year wasn't good. Eagles just what routed the Chiefs. So it. It happens. I think Schrader even said that Shrader goes, hey, super bowl wasn't good last year. That doesn't mean I'm not going to watch it next year.

[Kenny Schrader]

You know, that's pretty cool about Schrader because he usually. Him and Rusty, they're born, you know, close. Same years they make fun of sports, so it's really good. Schrader's been coming around to football. I like that. I think it was Taylor Swift. I think it's Ann, though, and Kenny Schrader's wife, and I think she got him involved.

Just because you brought it up. I don't know if you Saw this. But Taylor Swift is going to be on the New Heights podcast, which is her boyfriend, Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce. They've already announced it. It's coming out Wednesday, I believe, at seven o'. Clock. And people are wondering if it will be the most watched podcast full episode of all time. And I did a little research. Apparently there's a Saudi Arabian podcast that has 140 million views. And then Joe Rogan interviewing Elon Musk got like 69 million views. And. And people think this podcast with Taylor Swift could set the record for the most podcast views on YouTube of all time.

It will. And you know, you know why? I. I'm gonna call it right now. They're gonna announce that they've been married. No, I don't know.

Apparently she's announcing a new album.

Okay. I just think Taylor's been off. He's been off tour for a while, and, you know, they've been taking some good pictures on Instagram. And I just think there's some loose stories that need to be wrapped up. And I think people will be tuning in because, you know, there's things that need to be said. So, yeah, this, this Knoxville Nationals, Ryan Tims wins it. The payoff was incredible. But here's the big story, and I hate to do this, everybody. We're going to tie this back into nascar. David Gravel is a driver that everybody is learning to hate. And here's why. Because a couple weeks before, at the second biggest race at Eldora, the King's Royal, Kyle Larson and David Gravel, they, they, they. Well, Kyle Larson throws some dirty sliders on Gravel, and Gravel kind of throws some shade to Kyle Larson in the interview. And now David Gravel is wearing the black hat. And so David gravel comes from 21st in the Knoxville Nationals to third. Charlie, is there a benefit to just going with it and going, okay, look, I'm a good guy? Because David Gravel is like, look, I'm a good guy. He, in his interview, he's pleading his case, and I'm like, david, no, be the bad guy. Sell the souvenirs. Paint your car black.

Should he?

My question you should David Gravel fight this off? Should he go, no, I'm a good guy? Or should he go, screw it. No, I'm the bad guy.

Lean into it. He'll make more money. More people will watch. I mean, Denny Hamlin says that all the time. Like, in a perfect world, would he like to be the guy everybody loves? Would he like to be Chase Elliott probably growing up. But if you're not going to Be Chase Elliott, then be the villain. And they always say at driver introduction, either be really loud cheering, be really loud booing. And. And now that you got this, this Kyle Larson versus David Gravel, I mean, for. For someone like me to be paying attention to this, right, You. You need storylines like that. And I saw what he got up on the car, and he did this, and he kind of silenced the crowd. Right. Like, play into it. It's great.

I agree. I'm not gonna. I was gonna say sadly, but isn't that what wrestling taught us? You know, we've learned over the last 20 years that wrestling is now admitting. Look, what do they. How do they say that, Charlie? They. There's a. There. There's a verbiage for. It's called play it off. Like, we know they're acting, but still, the wrestlers are incredible athletes. What is the name for that when you. When you know you're. They know you're acting?

Well, they're coming at Sports Entertainment.

Yeah, they. They. There's respond right here. Everybody, like the wrestlers, the fans, they go, hey, he plays the role really good.

Or the heel or the face.

Yeah, something like that. But here's what I learned with social media and with people nowadays. Once you complain and they deem you a whiner, don't. Don't try to back out now. Go into whining more, because that's like Ric Flair, nature boy. Whoa. You know, go all in. But, you know, did you see that documentary about nature boy? He. He created his character so hard that he became that person and he forgot who he was.

Oh, yeah. I mean, he talked about that.

The.

The guy who was the drinker, the womanizer. That was him. I remember the. The famous line, he said, we're here in St. Louis, and St. Louis was famous for wrestling. They had wrestling at the Chase.

Yeah.

Back in the day on tv. And I remember Ric Flair had a great line. He said, I'd come here, whatever it was, Saturday night. I'd. I'd get $12,000 cash.

After my wrestling match, I go down to the landing. You know, the landing, Kenny.

Yeah.

Down on the river. He. He said, I take $12,000 down the landing. I'd come back with nothing, Just spend it on having fun.

So, yeah, I mean, if. If I'm David Gravel, you know, go all in. I mean, your car's black right now. It's got a little orange. I. I put a little three on it. Maybe just as a little bitty three. You know, just a little bitty one as a You know, Earnhardt was the man in black. Then it'll be perfect because he'll go. He's no Earnhardt. Well, now, that's because now you piss him off more. Anything to make the fans mad is what I would do. And just play it. And because he's no spring chicken, because here's why. Because there's half the fans like to be mean. They like. They liked Bloomquist, Scott Bloomquist. They liked Earnhardt because they like darkness. They like darkness. They like black. I'm bad. I'm mean, there's half the people like that. You know, half the people don't like orange and blue and red. They like black because they're depressed. Damn it. So go for it, David. Okay, I think we. So let's round out the top three. At the Knoxville Nationals. Ryan Tims, at 18 years old, becomes the youngest driver. He leads wire to wire. And take notice here that his car owner was being interviewed before the race. And he said, we are going to shock the racing world. We're going to win. The coroner called a shot like Babe Ruth, and they did. They won it all. And it's worth note also, Ryan Tim's father, Randy Timms, called me before. His father owns one of the biggest trucking companies in America, wfx, and he's bought some other trucking companies and kept their logos on them. But Randy Timms reached out to me once and wanted to sponsor my dirt card. I didn't want him to do it because he was sponsoring Joe Duvall's car, and I didn't want. I didn't, you know, I didn't want that. Wallace, you know, he was playing both of us. Randy was playing me against Joe. And I. I called Joe and I said, what's going on here? So Randy Tim's. Ryan's dad, is already super famous and owns one of the biggest trucking companies in the world. So Ryan Timms is a super good kid. Congratulations. And just. That was some side notes there with the window owner and the dad. So second in the Knoxville Nationals was Rico Abreu. And of course, we talked about coming from 21st to third was David Gravel. Kyle Larson was running good, blew a tire, and that was it. So one more, Charlie, and then we'll get to jokes. Do you got any jokes?

You know, it's funny just because you brought it up, I always laugh when I'm editing your coffee with Kenny's because, like, if you go whatever, five, six, seven minutes in, I'm pretty sure usually if you don't swear early, then you usually don't swear for the whole thing for like, the whole 12, 13 minutes. But if you swear early, all of a sudden you swear like 15 times. It's like once you start, you can't stop.

I'm pissed. So this was. This was a wild week, everybody. Jonathan Davenport, his other nickname is jd, his initials or Superman versus this very young. Not young, but Bobby Pierce. What do they call him? The smooth one.

Smooth operator. His dad is Bob Pierce, the tall, cool one. And what it is, it's Jonathan Davenport runs the Lucas Oil series, okay? And Bobby Pierce runs the World of Outlaw series. Well, the north versus South is just a race. Pay 75, 000 to win in Florence, Kentucky. Well, Florence has got, you know, Here we go again. It's got this legendary status. It's like Churchill Downs. You know, it. It's called Florence, y'. All. There's a. There's a big water tower. It's. It's. It's a tribute to the South. You know, the word, y', all is South. So the big water tower says Lawrence, Kentucky, and it's Florence, y'. All. So this is a big race and everybody wants to win it. JD leads 60 laps of like a hundred laps. And Pierce gets to him. And they. I can't believe they didn't wreck. And they. They beat out each other. And it's because JD got tired. He's tired of Pierce, you know, feeding. So when Bobby Pierce passes you, he passes you gnarly. He passes you rough. It's hard to pass. So when Bobby Pierce passes jd, He. He gives it to him. And jd, his owner is Lance Landers. Now, Lance Landers is good friends with Mark Martin. And we've all seen. I know the real Mark Martin. Mark Martin's a spitfire. So is JD as JD's owner, Lancelanders. So Lance Landers, I'm sure, I'm not positive, but J.D. admitted it in his victory lane. J.D. said, you know, I couldn't give up easy. I'm sure Lance like that. So, you know, JD's owner, Lance is like, you better not let that little Pierce kick your ass. You See what I'm saying?

Absolutely. I. I think what's cool is just as I've kind of gotten into dirt racing the last four years or so, it's been kind of cool because it seemed like when I first started paying attention, let's say three, four years ago, everybody was talking about Jonathan Davenport. He was the guy. And then it seems like over the last, what, two years, Bobby Pierce is coming on to now become the guy. Now they have a battle going, which is fun.

[Kenny Schrader]

Bobby Pierce is complete domination. He's winning so much, it could be setting records. And to think, three years ago, he was literally begging for money to keep the team afloat. And. And I wrote a check for $2,500, and I took it to Tri City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois, and I. I gave him 2500. I called his mom, Angie. I said, angie, I guess Bobby needs some money to pay for his rent, is an apartment or a house. And here he is now. And my sponsor, Low Voltage Solutions, said, hey, do you think that sponsoring Bobby Pierce would be a good thing? I'm saying, oh, yeah, yo, I think it'd be a good thing. So. So Bobby's got it going on now, and. And he won. He won the north versus South. So congratulations to Bobby Pearson. Boy, they put on a show, and the fans stayed afterwards, and they listened to the interviews, and it is the best thing. Dirt racing's got it going on right now because we got rivals. We got David Gravel versus Kyle Larson in sprint cars, and now we got JD Versus Pierce. I'm gonna end like this. Over in the sprint cars, it's David Gravel with the World of Outlaws vs Kyle Larson with High Limit over in World over in Late Models, it's, you know, Bobby Pierce with World Outlaws versus JD With Lucas Oil.
