Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Herman Schrader on the Dirty Mo Media platform from the middle of America in St. Louis, Missouri starts right now.
Kenny Schrader
The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I'm looking at Kenny Schrader right now.
Kenny Schrader
Drinker in the show. I mean.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah, you. How in the world did we agree to do a podcast?
Kenny Schrader
I like spending time with you.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
That makes me happy.
Kenny Schrader
Well, it's all about making you happy.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
We're always honest.
Kenny Schrader
We don't know that we're not in trou already, you know, and sometimes truthful. What makes you think you're not a little different?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
You're we good. Herman Schrader.
Kenny Schrader
I'm the only one that's in the middle of America.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
That's the reason I was so quiet. De I knew he would have a good one liner.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, yeah. Well, you're not too far from me if you're in. If you're in Huntersville. I'm close to Huntersville, so.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yep. So I'm gonna for okay, everybody on Dirty Mo Media, they will not be able to see this. However, if you're on the Kenny Wallace YouTube show, I move my head, there's a W in the background and some great pictures. I'm at my mama Judy's house and we came down here, Kenny to bring the trike down, get a little work done on my race car and see my mom and brother Mike. Brother Mike's birthday. So seemed like the thing to do.
Kenny Schrader
Oh, yeah, definitely. He told your mic 800 miles in the wrong direction when it's got to go that way.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah. And you see the cow Petty charity ride. They're gonna take our trike out to San Francisco. Your wife Ann's gonna fly with us commercially. And you're riding the trike out there?
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. Just hop on it and go.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
God, I love you. Okay. Okay. Kenny Schrader. It was, I think it was a busy weekend. I mean, I know what you did, but I always like. I always like to hear you say it. You. You looked good. Where were you? What'd you do?
Kenny Schrader
Well, we went to. Let me stop think we. Right after last Monday. We did it Monday. Did show Monday. Then it was in Daytona. Jack around Daytona. Watch World Outlaws. Monday night. Tuesday night or Sunday night? Monday night went over, saw your brother, saw the beautiful bikes that they build. Jack Round bike week. And then went to Gold Nile Speedway down by Brunswick, Georgia and watched the Lucas Oil late Models run four nights, three nights and drove home Saturday. Man, the day put on a show. Whoa. The racetrack was great. The racing was great. I played with a Crown vic and run us little 602 car one night.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
So that is, that track is owned by our friend out of Illinois. That's Steve Stevenson, isn't it?
Kenny Schrader
Yes, Steve Stevenson owns track. They had phenomenal races. I mean, guys starting in the back. Max Blair, Mac. Max Player.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
Ran took emergency provisional, started last Saturday night and got up to the lead. I think Moran won it from 22nd or something. It was just a great race. Track was good. And those guys, you know, like those guys and world outlaw guys or the world outlaw sprint cars or high limit sprint cars, any of those top series, they put on a great show no matter where they're at.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
We will get to the dirt racing as soon as we are done with the NASCAR and in this case, IndyCar. So this week I went down to bike week, spent some good time with brother Rusty nephew Stephen and they had a record sales. They sold nine really nice bikes. So I don't know, this economy, guys, it's kind of confusing. People are spending money like water. So the bike week was strong and that. That sends a good message. Okay, here we go, everybody. Man, Phoenix, there is so much to say and Kenny, I'll just. I'll just say this one of our favorite drivers. I know how much you like his daddy, Ryan Blaney. He wins. Did you see any of the cup race?
Kenny Schrader
I got. I got to see most of it. And something that he did, which is it's hard to do any time. Well, first off, it's just hard to win those races, period. But trouble in the pits, he had to overcome twice and restart in the back to go up and, and win the race, you know, to tire caught in. And he was able to hold off a hard charging. Christopher Bell for, you know, don't know if it went any longer, but it didn't go that any longer. It was only 312 laps and he got there first from the back twice. And he did a phenomenal job. Would have been a shame if he didn't won because he was the car all day.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I'm going to add a little bit. And then Dietz, I want you to tell everybody what you told me before we went on the air. I just want to let everybody know the reason I like this kid. It's like you said, Kenny. Ryan Blaney's interview. You know, listen, he did it the hard way. It was a Midwest win. I know he's, you know, born and raised up there, born in Ohio, but he did it the hard way. And that's the way we do everything in the Midwest. We do everything the hard way. But he's like, you know, I wasn't the fastest car. Christopher Bell was the fastest car. And boy, I'm sure glad the checkered flag fell because I don't know how much longer I could have held on. And Kenny, that, that's what I like about him is, you know, he just kind of, he just kind of humbles himself. And Dietz, tell Kenny and myself one more time how you saw this kid coming years ago.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Well, I was actually thinking about it last night, but I've probably announced more of his late model races than anybody because I was announcing for the past series at the time that he ran it. And you know, the thing I loved about how he and Dave did things with him coming up was he ran late models for about two and a half or three years. And now if you see a kid run a late model for half a year, then they want to go and jump into trucks or xfinity. Excuse me, O'Reilly, but he learned a ton in those late models. And he was racing good guys. Jay Fogelman. And I mean, you go down the list. And that was the time Chase Elliott was running late models and things of that nature. But I remember the first time I saw him drive a late model. It was a super late model. It was at Orange county. And he ran in the top five the whole race and had never raced in a super late model. I'm sure he had tested a lot, but it's just funny when you see these guys that end up making it, if you think back to whenever you first saw them, you know, Christopher Bell, Chase, all of these guys, they. They got it right off the bat. It seems like they didn't have to run a whole bunch of races and then eventually get there. You could sort of see it the whole time from the very beginning.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah, I wanted you to tell that story because I felt like you watched him way before the world did. And I watched his very first O'Reilly Auto Parts Race at Richmond one night. Shocked the heck out of me.
Kenny Schrader
I'm like, what?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
He was running, like, third all night long. Kenny. Kenny. Do you remember Ryan Blaney's first race at Richmond?
Kenny Schrader
No. I remember being little and walking around the garage area. You know, I don't remember his first race. You know, I know his mom and daddy, and, you know, I just know that he worked for what he got. Obviously, they helped him as much as they could, and if he would have been a smart ass or very disrespectful, he'd have got his ass kicked. You know, he just, he was, he was brought up good. You know, everybody wants to move up now, and some. Some people move up real quick, which I think we're going to talk about later, but they ran a lot of races. I mean, that, that young man ran a lot of races. All them guys did that are really getting it done. Ran a lot of races in the beginner type classes and moved up when they, when they were ready to.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
And, you know, Dave told me at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Newport, Tennessee, I said, so where, you know, how do you feel about where Ryan's at now? And this probably after he'd been raced late model for a year or two. And it was. It was similar to something Bill Elliott told me about Chase. He said, he said, we got a K and N car, you know, what's an ARCA car now, and it's the only one we got, and we're going to try to run it, and that's all I got. I can't take him any farther. I don't have the money to do it. And. And we'll just see what happens, and you see what happened.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
So that was an inside look, everybody, on why we are such Ryan Blaney fans.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, but what I want to add to that, though, is kind of what I was saying is, you know, like, yeah, Chase and Ryan, it helped a lot that, you know, Daddy was who they were, but they still, they made it happen. They earned it. And one of the reasons they got those good opportunities was because of their personality and the way they carried themselves.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah, no doubt. And well said. They. What's that old saying they have for a horse? You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink it. Same thing in racing.
Kenny Schrader
You.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
You can take a race car driver. Okay, here you are in the big time. Now, whether it's Truck O'Reilly and I mean, those are these top three series. They're no joke. And, man, he. He was ready to go right away. That's what I. It's pretty cool. We all have these exact memories. But let's. Let's move forward. Kenny, this one caught me off guard a little bit. Okay. This was. We're talking to him. We're talking about Ryan. Like, he just started in the Ex in the Cup Series, but that's his 18th win. So on his 18th win, he does a good job on his interview, but you can tell he's getting emotional. He says Ryan says this himself. He says, I'm going home for the first time to my family, my wife and my child. That one. That one hit home. Kenny, let me put that, you know, in your court. Do you remember your first win with. With Dorothy or Sheldon?
Kenny Schrader
Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's different when you go home. Even if you. Even if you don't win, you know, when you go home. And then, you know you'd get on the plane and, hell, you were with us a bunch, but you get on the plane. Yep. Sheldon's there smiling like, how'd you finish, dad? 20th. And he said, 40 cars again this week. I said, yep, 43, buddy. He said, well, that's pretty good. You keep thinking that. You just keep thinking.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
And he was good at math right away, and he still is. As they say, apples don't fall far from the tree. And I know that you and your buddy, you know, Tom Hendrick, you guys. You guys really figure your gas mileage out. So I think. I think Sheldon is. Is good with math, actually. I know he is. That sounds bad to us. We finished 20th out of 40 cars.
Kenny Schrader
But.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
But he's. If you're a kid, that. That is good.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, it's. It's bad if. If you're getting paid to drive the car, it's not good.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Ain't that horrible that we're. We're bad on ourselves? Dietz is 20th bad. If there's 40 cars is bad. Oh, my God.
Kenny Schrader
It will not. It will not keep you in the seat of one of those cars. You want to be in that is
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
a really good subject matter for another day right there. If there's 40 cars and you finish 20th, that means you're no good. God, that's brutal. Okay, my take is, you know, I was telling Kim, you know, I think about slowing down, and my wife, Kim, she says, you're not going to slow down until them grandbabies watch you race. So I. I get it. And. And I understand why Ryan Blaney was a little more emotional. And. And then, of course, the different subject, same person, everybody, it seemed like this was the week of the mustache. Kenny, did you pay any attention? They. They made a big deal out of everybody's mustache. And Ryan Blaney says, yeah, when he gets a. When one of his mustache. You know, when one of his hairs straggle, he puts him in his mouth and. And he chews the mustache off. That mustache is a mess.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, I'm okay. I missed that part.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Oh, God.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
I'm gonna tell you right now, he's got the best stash since Dale Earnhardt. I mean, he looks like Sam Elliot out there. You know, I'm ready for him to start telling a story or something.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I'm telling you, if. If Ryan Blaney walked in the garage area next week at Vegas with a long, brown cowboy trench coat on, nobody blink eye, because that's. That's what I'm. I'm waiting for.
Kenny Schrader
That.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
I'll never forget when I was. I was an intern at World Sports, and. And it was almost at the end of my internship. So this is, like 1999, and the brickyard 400 is coming up, and the biggest news coming out of the Brickyard was that Dale Earnhardt had shaved his mustache off.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I remember that.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
And he told that story that he and Michael Waltrip went scuba diving, and he couldn't get the mask on for do the scuba dive, so he just shaved his mustache off. And I think Michael Waltrip. And everybody was like, what? Did you just did that to go scuba diving? He's like, it'll grow back, you know.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Okay, switching subjects, everybody. A little bit of fun with the real thing. You know, children winning and the most famous mustache since what diet? You said it, Kenny. Do you think it's the most famous mustache since Earnhardt?
Kenny Schrader
I didn't know we were gonna spend this much time talking about mustaches.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Hey, neither did I. The fans are eating it up. You know, on Herman Schrader, we talk about the Hot Topic and what the stories are. So whatever it takes,

Herman 'Herm' Schrader
We have a lot to get to everybody. We got Jeff Gluck's polls. We got our opinion on Cletus. Is he ready to go? But can you. Kenny, let's go to the start of the race. Okay, I'm going to read a message from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company before the race started. Here we go. This is Goodyear racing before the cup race started. Before we go racing. Remember, the recommended tire pressures weren't guesses. So that means Goodyear had an idea that if you lower these air pressures, you go a lot faster, but you blow the tire. So Kenny, a handful of guys, that was the story. They started trying to pick up speed. They were lowering air pressure. I think we had Kyle Busch with three flat tires. Those are very sensitive, aren't they?
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, lower air pressure and more camber will. You know, you can make your car turn better and stick better and it just goes faster, but you pay a price. Now you don't know what's too low. They can tell you what's recommended and you know, you can go a little lower net, but you don't know what's too low until you go too low, you know, so you just, you keep fudging it down there and fudging it down there. And if you're, you know, a little more willing to gamble with it, you go a little faster until you have a tire problem, you know, potentially could
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
not, could not have said it any better. Now follow the bouncing ball, everybody. Jeff Gluck and Bob Pocrats. Those are our top beat reporters. That means they're on the beat. They're by the second, Jeff Gluck sees this. And Jeff Gluck says notably there were no tire issues in the 60 lap first stage. Guess the crew chiefs filled them up. So you know, this was a subject matter before the green flag dropped. I'm not sure exactly about Kyle Busch's Richard Childer's team, but three times and how the hell he got back on the lead lap. And Dietz, you're going to give us the rundown later on. But he, Kyle Busch was the poster child and never destroyed the car.
Kenny Schrader
See, they, they give you the points other than the stage points. They, they award the points and the money at the end of the race.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Good point.
Kenny Schrader
So as you get, as you get a third of the way through, you never dumb them down, let them air pressures down just a little bit so you can run that second segment. And then that third segment, you know, you know you're gonna have a pit stop. I guess they did second segment too. I don't remember. But that's when we start rolling it ice more and more. So you know, first, first segment, everybody's being, being good playing by the rule. They're not rules. Playing by a suggested air pressure are close to it. And as it gets later in the day, they play more.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Okay, switching gears everybody. We thought, we thought tires were going to be a big deal. And then as they say back in the country days, you did two things wrong. You thought and you thought wrong. Holy moly. Did they run over each other. They wrecked record amount of cautions. And the cautions, I would say 90% of them is because they were just, you know, they were trying to get spots and right, right front fenders in the left rear tires. And I think this is a victim of. That's how competitive the sport is. I don't think they went down into going, I'm going to wreck you. I feel like they had to get position and if they didn't get that position, I think Kenny, I, and I know you kind of feel this way too, but I just really think they're driving that hard and I think it's 75% of the field or more just driving that hard. What's your take?
Kenny Schrader
I agree with you 100%. Something that is different at Phoenix than, than most all of our other tracks is you always know when you're too wide.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
And you most always know when you're three wide. But just five, six and seven, man, it's hard to keep track of. So I mean, I got myself covered here. I'm, I'm Right here and I've got Joe on the outside of me and Ralph on the inside. I didn't realize the other three were down below Ralph, you know, so it's, it's just with the back straightaway the way it is with no out of bounds and all that pavement makes it pretty exciting.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Boy, you bring up a good point. I mean, they did wreck everywhere, but the catastrophic wrecks, like you just say they were through that tribal and I mean, just too much asphalt. Too much asphalt. Oh, my God. Yeah. Joey Logano, you know, that's his wheelhouse, that's his track. And when Joey wrecks out, it's like, whoa. Okay.
Kenny Schrader
It was, it was like old days. Yeah, well, we never, we never wrecked that much of Phoenix because we were usually too wide, you know? Yeah, because remember when, Remember when guys started using the apron a little bit down in three, it was like, holy hell, what's he thinking? Hell. Now they're below there, you know?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah. He's got his left front down under the line. That was a big deal back in our day. Okay, this is the Kenny Schrader moment. You know, to get to the Kenny Schrader moments, we gotta, we gotta say one thing. I always like that Kenny does on Herman Schrader, is he says, what's that poll look like?
Kenny Schrader
Yeah.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
So here we are over 20 minutes into the show and I, I said, nascar's on a roll, and if you don't get out of the way, they're going to roll over you. It's like a snowball effect. Nascar, in my opinion, has for sure turned the course. Jeff Cluck's poll, everybody, of course, they all know we tape this on Mondays. After 13,000 people, this is a good one. 85% say it was a great race, Kenny. That's a big one. So I think, and I want to hear what you got to say, Kenny. I think this race had it all. They had blown tires, they had wrecks, they had strategy. What else could you ask for? I guess maybe a side by side finish. What did you think?
Kenny Schrader
I'll. I'll agree with you 100%. We wrecked some. They weren't just one car wrecks. We, you know, we got, we got all us and all our buddies involved, a bunch of them. So they had big wrecks, they had some single car stuff. Strategy was huge. Just storylines. I mean, Ryan coming from the back twice, you know, at a, at a big, big track position place. Every place is track position anymore. But that place, it's, it's hard to get from the back to the front. And he. He made it look pretty damn easy twice. So, yes, I. I thought it was a very entertaining race. I know one time, I don't know, it's not many laps to go, TV went and said, oh, we just gotta show you what's going back here. 15th to 20th. And it was like, ah, you know, you didn't want to be in that.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Get me out of here.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. Arn Blaney, Hardwick and Boyer were always. Or no tv. Harvey Kamboi were both like, it's. It's always like that back there, you know, because everybody's on top of one another fighting for their lives back there for that job, you know, because you're not supposed to be running 20th in that car, you know, Even though we know there's differences in the cars and teams, not in the cars as much, but in the teams. But them guys are fighting just as hard. You got to drive your ass off anywhere in that series now. And I thought it was an excellent race.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
On a fun note, everybody, don't. Don't hammer us on this. But for me, especially the couple times that I did run up front in the Cup Series, it was so easy. It's like, you know, it's like, no wonder, you know, when you run up front, you know exactly what you're doing. Everybody else is dumb, and you're like, why they all wrecking back there? Yeah, it's. It's rough back there. It's rough. Okay, Deets, you're. You're up, buddy. What. What is our top 10 and what are our points look like?
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Okay, top 10. Ryan Blaney, as we said, was the winner. Christopher Bell finished second. Kyle Larson was third, Ty Gibbs fourth. Denny Hamlin was fifth. Another good week from 23:11. Bubba Wallace was six. William Byron was seventh, Tyler Reddick eighth. Another good weekend for Spire as well. Michael McDowell finished ninth. Eric Jones was sent. And one that kind of stuck out was Shane van Gisbergen finished 11th. He was in the middle of everything yesterday, but still managed to finish. Live it. Looking at the points, Tyler Reddick, no surprise, he's the points leader. Ryan Blaney now second. Points. Bubba Wallace, Chase Elliot, Shane Van Gisbergen, Christopher Bell, Joey Logano, Michael McDowell, Chris Buescher and Kyle Larson are the top 10. And. And again, I'll tell you, the thing that just kind of stuck out in my mind yesterday was when the race was over with, I wanted to know what the points were. And like I said, for the last 10 years, with this win, and you're in. I didn't even care what the points were. So they've, they've achieved what they're trying to. We'll just see how it ends up at the end of the year.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Kenny, I just want to say this, I want to comment on that top 10, Ty Gibbs, he's taken a beating with this lawsuit. You know, like Ty Gibbs a spoiled rich kid. But listen, you know, you got to be mentally strong and I'm sure grandpa Joe Gibbs has taught this to tight young man, go out there, focus. We can make fun of Ty Gibbs all we want, but when you finish fourth in the toughest motorsports in America, you know, he drowned the noise out. So for that I got to give him an attaboy. What do you think, Kenny?
Kenny Schrader
Well, I thought when they restarted that thing, I didn't keep up exactly with who did the two and the four, but you know, there was about eight or nine to go. I think it was the initial restart. He took off him like, whoa, this might be his day. But just like, just like you said, he, okay, they didn't get it one there. They were fourth but they were in a position to get it, to get it one. So it's just a matter of time. And he, he's going to be there deservingly so because he has proven him and the team that, that they can do it.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah. And I'll end this. I just got a lot of respect for these cup drivers that take a beating from everybody like a Denny Hamlin or a Joey Logano and they go out there and they win. I don't know how many mentally strong people there are that can do that. And they just, man, they weed all that noise out. They get in that race car and for that I just give them all a lot of respect.

Okay, switching subject and Kenny, I'm going to serve this one up to you because I know you've spent little time in the early days. It has been eight years since IndyCar has run at Phoenix and I know you did a little testing there and I know that you are in the record books for Phoenix. You are my hero out there in Phoenix. You've done a lot of winning. But NASCAR and IndyCar they say, okay, we're going to run the O'Reilly Auto Parts cars and IndyCar together on Saturday. Kenny, I'm just going to stop it right there because there's so much to say, man, I got to tell you, it looked really good. The crowd was outrageously good. What do you know about that Saturday?
Kenny Schrader
I don't know much about Saturday because I was driving Saturday. But okay, I know that yesterday I enjoyed hearing some of the IndyCar drivers from the booth. I enjoyed listening to Clint Boyer scream like a little girl the two seater, which I don't blame him. But you know, this was done back in the 80s with NASCAR and IndyCar. I sure liked what I saw from St. Petersburg last week with trucks out there with the, with the Indy cars. You know, in the United States, NASCAR cup and IndyCar racing have got to be our two biggest series and we can run them both together. It's just I believe a win win for the sport. And when I say the sport, it's not for NASCAR racing or IndyCar racing, it's for motor racing. And just to bring the people together and bring the top two tiers of racing together, I enjoyed the heck out of it.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I'm going to take a shot at this, Dietz, and then I want to serve it up to you. I think the reason that the O'Reilly Auto Parts cars and the Indycars work so well together is because we already know what the O'Reilly Auto Parts cars can do. You know, they're mini me's, they look like the cup cars somewhat. It is exciting to see an upside down airplane and those Indy cars, they got wings all over them. And I think it's just something to look at. It's like, wow, this is different. And you know, I don't want I'm not comparing to Formula One, but there's something about those type of cars that the young kids like. And it worked. And it's worked two weeks in a row. Now. They're saying Doug Bowles, you know, run an IndyCar, runs the, you know, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He says they're going to have a big talk about it. You call yourself a fan, Dietz? I remember that the first day we did this. As a fan, did you like it or not?
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
I loved it. And I think, you know, obviously with Roger Penske owning IndyCar, that's going to make this a lot easier. And, and I know that Fox has got some equity in it, but the funny thing to me is, is when you, when you look at the two weekends, so Indy car was, was the focus at St. Petersburg, and I think that helped the truck crowd on Saturday. I don't think the trucks there by themselves would have got anywhere close to that kind of crowd. And Indy cars always struggled. For whatever reason, they've always struggled at Phoenix. And just like you said, I was watching, you know, I watched both races and I was like, man, that's a, that's a big Saturday crowd. And I just thought it was great. And I think that, that having that Roger Penske connection there between NASCAR and IndyCar hopefully help allow it to happen some more.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Kenny, this is hard to comment for me. I'm just going to serve it up and see what you say. I, I guess nascar, they're going to be okay splitting that money up. If it helps both, both organizations
Kenny Schrader
splitting the money up. As far as,
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I mean, you know, like, like there, there was, okay, you had the Indy car race on Saturday, and then about two hours later you had the O'Reilly race. So you almost had the same crowd. I'm sure that I don't think they made the car, the crowd go out and come back in.
Kenny Schrader
Well, I'm sure if you went in for one, I don't know how it works. Okay. I don't know how to work. Yeah, I would think the ticket price would have been more. But, you know, our sport relies so much now on the TV money anyway, and that has not really affected a lot by the amount of people at the race. I don't believe, you know, the TV mat is a given amount that started a year. But what, what makes it work is people talking about it and happy with it. If, if that, if they, if the people liked it, it worked.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I like that. And I'll just have to throw one last thing in on this subject. It sure does help that Fox Sports TV, you know, owns 30% of IndyCar, because now they're all in bed together. And by God, we're gonna make this work. I don't know that, you know, there. Years ago, there was always rumblings of, you know, like, Formula One, should media companies own sports? You know, I don't know. That's just. That's just a thought right there. Okay. And something I got.
Kenny Schrader
Let me throw one more disclaimer in there. With all that said, none of the three of us really have a friggin clue how it worked anyway, so we liked it.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah. And listen, I think that's why the fans tune in to Herman Schrader, because we're all the same. Hey, it's like, haven't you ever wondered how two different series run and they split the money up? I mean, I guess, you know, me and you, we know what it takes to go racing. So it's like, okay, there's two different organizations here. What do they do? Split the money up? Okay, this is something that I thought was worth talking about, that I see. We're four races into the year, and I see a lot less fans complaining. Deets. Do you see that or not?
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, but I'm waiting. I'm probably. No, I'm probably. Probably kind of like, like the two of y', all, you know, I mean, anybody that's watched this show since. Since I've been a part of it knows that, you know, I can be critical. But a lot of that crap with the fans is. Is just complaining to be complaining. And I just. I don't tend to go to places to where I see that because I, I just. It gets kind of old, monotonous.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
And that's it. You just stopped. You just stopped.
Kenny Schrader
I agree with you 100%, Dietz. You know, and, and I, you know, Herman, you keep saying, NASCAR's back, get out of the way, you're going to get run over. I don't think it was ever gone. You know, it just, it's just we've. We've had. We're off to a good start. They changed point system stuff, but I don't think we were ever gone. It's just right now we don't have as many complaints or we're not even looking for them.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, that. That's the thing is I, I think, you know, if. If, if you base anything off of what you see people saying on X or on Facebook, it's going to be skewed, because I don't think that's What? It's a loud minority, but I think it's a minority.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I want to remind everybody something Kenny Schrader says to me. Herm. We play well off of each other. Some of the things I say are showmanship. In other words, you know, like Darrell Waltrip, you know, some of the things I say are on purpose. I'm cheering the sport on. Everybody we know. You're cheering, I'm laughing, okay? I'm. Get out of the way. NASCAR's coming. That's all in fun, everybody. But, yeah, me, Kenny Schrader, myself, we play well off of each other. And I just sure am excited right now. Of course I'm excited. When the Cardinals are in first place one month into the season. That's. That's the type of person I am. I'm jacked up on Sundrop all the time. Okay, man, that was quick. That was. The show's going way too fast, Kenny. Switching subjects, everybody. Finally, we, we ran the cup race, we ran the IndyCar race, and now we are at the O'Reilly race. And Justin Allgaier, he's won his third O'Reilly auto parts race at Phoenix. Hell of a race. He passed Jesse Love on the outside off turn four. He did it the hard way, the Midwest way. Kenny, did you see anything of Justin take that lead on the outside in the O'Reilly race?
Kenny Schrader
I did not see the O'Reilly race, but, you know, he, he won the series championship a couple years ago at Phoenix, too. So, you know, Phoenix, like you said, third victory there. It's been a good race track for him.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
And you bring up a good point because Jesse Love won the championship their last race there. So we quite possibly had the top two contenders over the last year or so finish one, too. So it was a hell of a race. And we'll just leave it at that because time is flying and we got to get to the most controversial one. And listen, everybody, Kenny Schrader said he was going to comment, so I am ready.

There are a lot of cup drivers including Kyle Busch. They say they do not like Cletus McFarland getting this quick of approval to go big time. And, and what is big time? Well, the O'Reilly Auto Parts is considered big time and Cletus has been approved and he has signed a three race deal with Richard Childress Racing and he is going to race at Rockingham. Kenny, what is your take?
Kenny Schrader
Well, I mean it's bull, you know, it's just it. I don't know Cletus. I like watching Cletus. I enjoy some of his stuff I see on the Internet. I mean yes, if I was promoting the Rockingham Speedway and yes, if I was nascar, I would want him into my race. But he has no business being approved to run that race with the limited number of races he's ran. Now. I also listened to Kyle Busch. I don't know what that number of races is but five laps or so at the truck race probably doesn't show that you're ready at Daytona. That probably doesn't show that you're ready. He has finished a couple arc races. Yeah, that don't really show you're ready but you know, whatever. It's just there's, there's no experience there to draw off of. I understand why they're doing it and more power to them. But the whole approval process from starting with the ARCA series is something that probably needs to be looked at.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Okay, I'm not gonna compound on what you said. I'm just gonna say this. Somebody that I admire sent me this long love letter and basically in ending it said, look, NASCAR is going to look good either way because if Cletus fails, that's going to show the world that look, this stuff is hard. It can make NASCAR look good by twisting it and going, oh look, you know, you just can't get somebody in off the street. That's one way to look at it. I didn't say that. I'm being devil's advocate. I'm just not going to repeat what Kenny Schrader just said. And then, and then the other thing is that, you know, listen, you know, he could hurt somebody. This could go bad. Kenny, you and I know we've got a lot of laps around Rockingham. That's no joke. That's a lot of throttle manipulation. Dog leg, front straightaway. So in ending, Cletus is too famous. That, that's my, that's my crazy opinion. If this would have, this would be Joe Don. They. I think it would be a non story and it might slip through. But he's awfully famous and I, I know this is going to be one of the most watched races because they're gonna, they're gonna want to see if Cletus wrecks out. He's one way.
Kenny Schrader
He's not famous for his racing career.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Hey, I mean, perfect point. I agree. He's. He's famous for, you know, landing planes and water and you know, I. Listen, now, listen. Our, our friends at Dirty Mo and Door Bumper, they said, cletus, you're getting your ass beat right now, so come on up here and defend yourself. So Cletus took it like a man. Okay, now listen, I'm gonna have a little fun here as a peacemaking on Monday. Last week, cletus brought Dale Jr. Liver mush. And Cletus says, man, I, I have no idea. Yeah, have you ever studied liver mush, buddy? He brought liver mush to Dale Jr. As a peace sign. And they aired it all out and it's aired out now and now everybody's gonna watch.
Kenny Schrader
What do you think, Dietz?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Okay. Yeah. What do you think, Dietz? I don't.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
I think Kenny was intentionally not asking me what I thought about it. I just, you know, when Travis Pastrana came into this deal, he came from a similar background and he ran a lot more races and did a lot more stuff, you know, before he started running trucks that at Daytona and different things like that. You could take Cletus and put him in a late model at Hickory or Florence or anywhere. And I'll be willing to bet you he's going to be one of the two slowest qualifiers. I don't think this is safe and Kenny knows this and you probably know it to hermit. NASCAR made AJ Foy take a rookie test in the 80s at Darlington. Okay, AJ Foy is so. This is kind of ridiculous.
Kenny Schrader
1986 AJ fight went to Darlington Southern 500, Labor Day weekend. I was the 1985 rookie, so I was the one of the ones that had to go up top with Darrell and DW Darrell and Dick baby, and I don't remember who else. And we had to watch Foyt run his 10 laps to see if he could be approved to qualify the second day. Was not approved to qualify the first day. You cannot, as a rookie, could not then qualify the first day. So I'm up there.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Wow.
Kenny Schrader
This is a formality. This is a formality that we're going through, but it's the way the rules are and we have to do it. So Dick Beatty's like, well, guys, what do you think? You know, when we're getting up top? I said, I don't care if he hits the wall every damn turn. I think he looked great and he should be approved. You know, so obviously he was approved. But he also came in, came to Darlington knowing he wasn't going to be able to qualify the first day, knowing that he had to go through his little rookies test and had no problems with it. Knew what the deal was, did it all. It was. It was. It was pretty cool. I don't know when they dropped all that, but at the time, it was a big, big deal.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
And I, I cannot follow that up. But I will say this. What I had to go through to get approved to run Daytona in 1989, I had. I had to give Les Richter. You know, you've heard this story before, Kenny, and I know what you went through here. Let's. Let's end it like this. Maybe after this, NASCAR comes out and says, okay, look, we're going back to our approval ways. Maybe NASCAR's so wounded right now that they just gotta, you know, let this happen. To bring, you know, millions of fans in, it's just a. Is a lot. I think we all said it all, and I think we all brought up good points and we didn't step on each other's toes. That was great. Okay, this is just something I'm going to capsulate. It means. It's a long story and we are switching subjects. We're. We're doing a. We're not doing a 180, but we're doing a 90 degree right now. Formula 1, take, take, take, take a drink of iced tea, everybody. Formula one over in Europe, they are so ate up with green being green that they're asking the Formula One cars for 50% of their motor to be electric. Now, I dumbed it down for you. I know way more. So I don't want to hear everybody start. I know it all because I read everything and I know it, Kenny. They want these cars to be 50% electric. So they are. So what happens? They store this power and when they get to a long straightaway, they get on the gas, they come off the corner really fast. But halfway down the straightaway the cars
Kenny Schrader
go
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
because they're out of the electric. Mark Martin had a really good quote. He says, that's why I like NASCAR motors. Lewis Hamilton, their great driver, said, I was in on a one hour meeting. He said, you have to have a, a college degree. And I still don't understand it. And that's the champion of all champions. This. You know, over in Europe, they just, they're green, they're, they're just, that's all they talk about. So 50 fuel, 50% electric. They're hybrid and basically they want it, they want to get to all electric cars. I guess it would be okay if the damn thing would just not give up. You know what I mean?
Kenny Schrader
I don't go to any Formula one races. Let me think about it. That's right. I've never been to a Formula one race. Johnny Benson told me, oh my God, you gotta go. Because when they drive in turn, you think throttle stuck before they let up. He said it's, it is literally amazing. But if that's what they need do, that's what they need do dates. And I remember back and let's see if you remember. Do you remember NASCAR's. I won't say green, but they're during the, one of the first fuel crisis. What NASCAR did, Kenny.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I can't remember.
Kenny Schrader
All right, what year was,
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
was 1975.
Kenny Schrader
All the races were 10% less. The Daytona 500, I think gets started on lap 21.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah, I'll be darn. That's a big deal.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. The government had asked everybody to curb their fuel consumption. And I, I think based on what I remember reading, they didn't ask NASCAR to do that. But NASCAR did it so that they wouldn't have to worry about the government getting on their back to show that they were trying to do something. If I remember what I read correctly.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah, well, I hate throwing this on you guys, but it was a, you know, we have fun with Formula One. We know they're big time and all that and they race in different countries, but it's like what they're just trying to race electric cars is really what they're trying to do.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Here's.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I'm sorry, I just thought it was good bringing up.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
I just, I think the biggest problem that they're going to have. I Mean, they're already having problems with that from, you know, you know, Verstappen and Hamilton and these guys complaining about it. The biggest. The biggest thing that fans that like formula one like is they like the technology. They like it being as advanced as it possibly can. And this may be a way to advance it in a certain extent, but for 70 or 80 years until now, that technological advancement was to get the cars faster, not slower. And I think they're going to get a ton of pushback on this.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Go ahead, Kenny.
Kenny Schrader
I would think the biggest problem has got to be the extension cords. They got to get.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Oh, my God. They're just ate up. I listen, I love going over to Europe just because it's legendary. I went over there and. But when I went to Ferrari, I'm like, what's all this? These green generators all around these Ferrari motors. Now I have a better understanding that just they're generators generated by gas. They gonna need some gas. They gonna need some. Well, I just think it's a bummer because, you know, you're right. That's what made formula one great, is the engineering of these cars. So. All right, guys, we gotta throw in a little more controversy and. And I really don't even think I need a comment. I just want to let you all know that Joe Gibbs and Chris Gabehart. The update, everybody. It's kind of like, you know, back in the day. Here's your update on the lawsuit. Joe Gibbs is suing Chris Gabart. And Joe Gibbs just came out and said, no, it's all real because we have a private investigator and we have pictures. And they posted the pictures all over social media of Chris Gabart meeting with somebody. And I think that's all I got to say, just that we are acknowledging it and we've had different ideals. I said, it's as though as the world turns. And somebody said, no, it's as the toolbox turns. What do you got, Kenny?
Kenny Schrader
Glad I'm not involved, boy.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
No kidding. They don't want that information to get out. All right, so we got dirt racing and jokes. Kenny, you want to. You want to take dirt racing?
Kenny Schrader
Well, the world outlaw cars was last Sunday and Monday, so that's already been covered. Last Friday, Donnie Shots. 317th World of Outlaw victory. Let it wire to wire. I believe after having second quick time when this heat and the dash, they got rained out Saturday at Magnolia. And then I went to watch and play down at golden aisle speedway down by Brunswick, Georgia. Steve Stevenson's track. Lucas Oil. Late miles were There. Jonathan Davenport won three nights. Little Moran won the fourth night. And they had a show every night. Obviously those guys put on a show no matter where at the. Wherever they're at. But they had a track where they could really shine and they had excellent races.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
And I got a comment. World of Outlaws going to their social media site. This is an unbelievable. So we all know how great Donnie Shots is, but Kenny, he went 510 races. Did I read that right? No. Hold on. The 10 time champ delivered a vintage performance. I saw all these stats. How long it had been. How long had it been? Do you know?
Kenny Schrader
He won in 24.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Okay. Yeah. Oh, his last one was 24.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
317th win. The man has now won a World of outlaw race in 29 different years of his life. I'm scrolling through World of Outlaw, Kenny. Yep. Number 317. And man, it goes on and on and on, but it just can't. Oh, yeah. Okay. I was right, but wrong. Here, here. Here's the official verbiage. It had been 510 days since Donnie's shot was in Victory Lane. The drought is over.
Kenny Schrader
Wow.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Congratulations, Donnie. Sure is. Why is his nickname Don Don?
Kenny Schrader
I didn't know it was.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
It is.
Kenny Schrader
Okay.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Sounds goofy to me.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, yeah. The guy named Kenny, whose nickname is Herm, just said Don Don seemed weird to him.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Okay, look here. Hold on now. I like that. Okay, so everybody that's on The Kenny Wallace YouTube show, you can see this. I know. Dirty Mo. Thank you, everybody. But look at this. Hold on. Where is it at? There it is, guys. World of Outlaws. It's got don don and 1, 2, 5 flames. I always. You know, because Gordy Gundaker, that's his
Kenny Schrader
father in law, right?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah. Gordy Gundaker is technically not married yet.
Kenny Schrader
I don't think Technically not. Yeah.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Well, this is it, guys. What do we got for jokes?
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Why did the chicken cross the playground?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Why did a chicken. I don't know.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
To get to the other slide. Slide. Okay, here's. Here's one. How about this one? Why did the belt get arrested?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Why did the belt.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
It held up a pair of pants. And then I got one more. This is my fun. This is the funniest one to me. Did you hear about the guy who drank invisible ink?
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
He drank Invisible Inc.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Yes. He's at the hospital waiting to be seen.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
And with that, everybody, it's been a great Monday. When does racing start?
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, no kidding.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
All right, well, Kenny Schrader, I just. I'll go first. I am down here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Like I said at the top of the show, get my car updated, getting a body put on it, dropping the trike off. And I'm off this weekend. But the next weekend I leave for Athens, Greece. So I'm gonna have to find somebody to fill in for me for two weeks. Who you guys gonna get? Gonna get Rick Master. That wouldn't.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
He did great.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I love Rick.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, Rick would be good. I like Rick.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
We're going dirt racing because it's the weekend.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
I know. I love it. Hey, it looks like this could be your year. What was a year or two ago, man, you got rained out so much. All right. How are you doing right now? I mean, you're getting races in. It looks like you went down to Mississippi down there. Run third two nights in a row.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, we run 15 nights so far. 15 so far. Get a couple more this weekend. Gonna get. Gonna go to Jerry Hoffman Saturday now in Springfield. As long as we don't tear stuff up Friday night wherever we wind up going.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
That is awesome. I'm going to bet deets that Schrader gets in over 70 nights this year. 70.
Dietz (Co-host/Analyst)
It's pretty good. He's. He's almost a quarter of the way there.
Herman 'Herm' Schrader
Yep. Okay, everybody. As we say all the time, check out our pretty faces on the Kenny Wallace YouTube show. Or when you're rolling down the road, turn in to the Dirty Mo Media podcast. Check out Dirty Mo Media on Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram.
