Kenny Schrader
He had a drink on the show. I mean, yeah, you.
Herman Schrader
How in the world did we agree to do a podcast?
Kenny Schrader
I like spending time with you.
Herman Schrader
That makes me happy.
Kenny Schrader
Well, it's all about making you happy.
Herman Schrader
We're always honest.
Kenny Schrader
We don't know that we're not in trouble already. And sometimes truthful. What makes you think you're not a little different?
Herman Schrader
You're.
Kenny Schrader
We're good.
Herman Schrader

Kenny Schrader
You're my boss.
Herman Schrader
He'll be there to lead me along. No, no, go ahead.
Kenny Schrader
Keep going.
Herman Schrader
And then. Yep. And then from 12 to 1, the granddaddy of them all, it'd be Dale Jr. And Amy Earnhardt for bless your heart. Now this is all live, everybody right there. Junior Motorsports on the big RB stage. And then to end it all, from one to two door bumper clear live with Jordan Bianchi, Freddie Kraft, Tommy Baldwin, Carson Ellage and Jordan Bianchi. And that's going to be Thursday, May 21st. It's going to be a big day. All this is going to be live on on Sirius xm. So as they say, Schrader, y' all come out now here.
Kenny Schrader
Sounds good.
Herman Schrader
All right, it's your show, Kenny. It's your show. What are we gonna talk about?
Kenny Schrader
I didn't get to see a lot of the races because you know that movie Groundhog Day?
Herman Schrader
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Kenny Schrader
Well, yesterday was.
Herman Schrader
Okay, everybody.
Kenny Schrader
Groundhog Day, which I was with you for. I was on the bike for 13 days and you were on it for nine. And man, the Kyle Petty charity ride wound up at the camp. We did 6400 and something miles. A whole lot of people that rode out and rode back did the same amount of miles, but it was fantastic. And we had good weather. 150 bikes had a fantastic auction. Mr. Bill Davidson from Harley Davidson, Harley Davidson donated a bike. I mean, it just. It was just phenomenal ride. I mean, as you know. What do you think?
Herman Schrader
Well, Kenny Schrader says it right, everybody. And we are going to get to everything in racing We've got a great, great show lined up, which I think it is because the racing was so good at the Glen and there's a lot of other things that happened. Casey Kane finally wins a big world of Outlaw race. But like Kenny said, let's start right there. The Kyle Petty charity ride we took off from. What was that, Kenny? Sonoma Lake Lodge.
Kenny Schrader
Well, I don't know, but it was a nice, nice hotel in sonoma.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And 150 riders. Now, what made this ride different was it was the 30th annual celebrating 30 years and the 250th year of America. So it was red, white, and blue. Kyle Petty did a hell of a job with all the logos, gave us nice leather jackets, and, boy, Kenny, those jackets were warm.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. And when they get wet, they only weigh about 200 pounds.
Herman Schrader
And listen. I mean, a shout out to the man you're looking or listening to Kenny Schrader. As my mom would say, Kenny, we're glutton for punishment. You're a badass. I've never.
Kenny Schrader
You.
Herman Schrader
You drove the Trike all the way out there.
Kenny Schrader
Well, you.
Herman Schrader
You got some good sleep at the.
Kenny Schrader
You went almost the same distance. It ain't no big deal. There's. There's people who went farther, but it was just. It was just a. It was just a great ride. And you can call. We can call. You know, the name of. It's the Cow Petty charity ride, but we all know it might as well be the Morgan Petty charity ride because she does all the damn work. And, boy, does she do a good job. Diets. You can't. You cannot believe how organized it is.
Alan Dietz
I just. I can't imagine riding a motorcycle. I can't imagine riding it from Charlotte to Myrtle beach, let alone as far as you got. I keep. Can you feel your bottom right now, or is it. No, I want to answer that.
Herman Schrader
I want to answer that. Now. This is the fun part of the show, and you can edit it out whether you want to or not. Schrader has an ass. I don't. I don't have an ass. Okay. Schrader's got the advantage on this. So much to where. When Kenny Schrader would race in nascar, I'd look in his seat of his race car, and there's no cushion in there. Shredder, what was the deal with that?
Kenny Schrader
I had a cushion. I had a cushion in my cup car a little bit. We don't have it in. We put.
Herman Schrader
And yes, Dietz, my ass hurts so bad.
Kenny Schrader
We. We had Four of us coming back to the Midwest yesterday, and one of them never been to Buc EE's. So we stopped at Buc EE's between Knoxville and Nashville. And we pulled in, we parked after we got fuel next to this older couple that was eating older, you know, like they're my age. And lady, lady at her door, window down. She said. She, how long you been riding? I said, it's going to be right at 6,500 miles. She said, can. Can you even feel your butt? And I walked up to her door, I said, I think it's there. You feel it? And she said, oh, I walked into that one, didn't I? But it was just. It was. It was just a great trip for. And the main thing is for the cause.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
All the money we raised goes to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. These are children that have been dealt a rough card in life. We went to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Then we ended at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. So just for everybody out there, it's $2,500 to send one child to camp. I think that's for a week, Kenny.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, for a week.
Herman Schrader
So it is the. It is the real deal. And shout out to Morgan Petty. There are. There are great leaders in life and then there are bad ones. And Morgan Petty, she is unbelievable. Kenny will end like this. Moab, Utah was my highlight. What was your highlight?
Kenny Schrader
Well, I don't remember which one Moab was. They all run together with the.
Herman Schrader
With the Red Mountains. With the Red.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. I mean, driving through there. Oh. The first two day, you talk about different parts. I mean, how the country is so much different, you know, from west coast as you go start going east. But the whole ride's just phenomenal.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. So. All right, everybody. Cal Petty, Cherry Ride was super successful and. All right, let's move on. I wasn't teasing. Okay, guys. Watkins. Glenn did not disappoint. It was one of the great weekends, and here's why. I'll tell you why, then we'll talk about it all. The truck race. Caden Honeycutt holds off Connor Zillich. And I mean, they're. They're bumper to bumper. The fans are on their feet and it's like, oh. Oh, my God. Caden Honeycutt holds off one of the greatest road racers of our time, which was Connor Zilla. So that's race one. Race two. Jesse Love is doing it, and he's going to hold off yet again, Connor Zilchman. Connor Zillich passes him on the last corner. Coming to start. Finish line Then last but not least, the cup race was one to behold. Svg, he decides I'm going to pit for tires and gas. So he is not saving gas. He starts 29 seconds back, blows through the field, passes everybody, and that was a sight to behold. And wins by seven seconds. So Kenny Schrader, Allen, Kenny, you go first. I mean, I'm not exaggerating. I thought it was a hell of a weekend.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, I didn't get, I didn't get to hear a lot. I heard the last part of the cup race. I heard when Connor pitted or not Connor, but when SVG pitt it. And I knew he was way back, but he was coming fast, you know, and those other guys were sitting ducks up there on their older tires. Although SVG could run really good, good lap times on his older tires still, but, but he run them down. Those guys would have been in trouble if there had been a green white checker on fuel. But it didn't make any difference. It's like, hey, we got a chance, we got a chance of beating him this way. So let's just stay out here and see if we can make it.
Herman Schrader
Deets, I'm throwing this out there because I, I think it makes it exciting when, when the whole field, when everybody in the cup series goes, well, we cannot beat SVG today. So let's just, let's do something different. Let's stay out and see if we can beat him this way. And. And it still didn't work out. Is my question to you, Dietz? Do we give it up now? Have we seen. Now, I think this is a comical question, but I got to ask it. Has SVG showed you that he's another Dan Gurney?
Alan Dietz
Yeah, and he could, you know, he, he's more than likely, I think Jeff Gordon's the all time road course wins leader, would like nine. Well, SVG's got seven. Now this is, this is cup wins. But you know, to put it in perspective, the difference between him and Dan Gurney is, you know, Dan Gurney didn't do a lot of oval races. Well, SVGs, you could see him getting better on the ovals and he could possibly get up there, maybe win oval race one day. I think the other thing is, you know, I remember a couple of years ago, Denny Hamlin pitted at Richmond and lost a layup, didn't have a caution. Some of the guys stayed out, he drove through, got his lap back, came all the way around and ended up winning the race. But I think this deal with SVG is a lot like what Bill Elliott did at Talladega in 85 is making up the two layups under green without the aid of caution or draft. And to make up those two laps and then come back around and take the lead, I honestly think it's equivalent to that. The equivalency of. Of that on a road course. I mean it's unbelievable. I didn't think he could. Could make up that much time, but to be making up 2, 3 seconds a lap is just. And I know those guys were having to hold back a little bit and had older tires and stuff like that, but even if you put him head to head, he was probably going to beat him by second lap. I mean it's just, it's unbelievable.
Herman Schrader
Kenny, Kenny, you always debo everything is SVG getting the credit he deserve? Is he one of the greatest of all time?
Kenny Schrader
Well, he's the greatest road racer that. He's a great rate. Easy for you to say. The greatest road racer. Greatest road racer NASCAR has seen so far. Hey, beats. Look. Look up the seven wins. I mean that's unreal but look up and see how many starts that is. That's seven wins out of, you know, a small number of starts versus like, you know, Jeff's nine wins is phenomenal, but it's out of how many starts
Herman Schrader
out of 20 years.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. Percentage wise.
Herman Schrader
I like this wise.
Kenny Schrader
SVG is kicking everybody's butt big.
Herman Schrader
I'm gonna say just an answer is going to come up in a minute. I'm going to say that's seven wins out of nine or ten races. So you bring up a good point, Kenny. Yeah. While waditz is showing that and we're going to get to the the fun things later on. But let's talk about the racing. We had a 10th cr you know, blow on the racetrack. We're going to get to that. Everybody.
Kenny Schrader
I missed that part.
Herman Schrader
Kenny, this. Oh, it was big. You know, I told you my go to I go on the social media site X I go to NASCAR on fox. I scroll and they bring up the highlights. Well, let's just talk about that. You know, it was a beautiful day. It was sunny, clear skies and me and you know about the winds because we rode through Kansas and you know on the cow petty cherry ride but the winds were in full force. It took a tent out of the camping ground area and and took a tent and blew it on the racetrack after you come out of the S's. Kenny, that reminds me, didn't we have something blow on the track in darlington one year for qualifying?
Kenny Schrader
Well, there was One of them orange blow up things, I don't remember some
Herman Schrader
drink me or something.
Kenny Schrader
You're right, was bouncing around there for a while. But that was, you know, if you hit that, it wouldn't be near as bad as hitting the tent.
Alan Dietz
That was, that was at Chicago. It was sponsored by Tropicana. So it's a big Tropicana orange. And based on what I can come up with, and I, you know, the percentage is right around 50% because if I missed a race or two, going through quick is 14 races.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, I thought it was. Yeah, that's only incredible.
Herman Schrader
And like I always say, remember, you're in the, you're in the Major League Baseball hall of fame if you bat 300. To put that in perspective, you know, if, if, if you get pitched 10 times and you hit the ball three times, you're a Hall of Famer.
Alan Dietz
Well, here. What. So what do you do with Shane Van Gisberg? And if we, if we get five years down the road, need decides to retire and he's got 15 cup wins. But they're all road courses. Does a guy like that go into the NASCAR hall of Fame?
Kenny Schrader
Let's don't go there yet, okay?
Herman Schrader
That hurts my head actually. Listen, I think the point is, and this is my opinion, I don't believe. And listen, Kenny, you know this. We're from the same era. I'm the biggest. AJ Foy, Marionretti, Richard Petty, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones. You know, I'm from that era that you are, Kenny. But I ain't never seen anybody this dominant because the kids nowadays, they got so much at their fingertips, like this sim. I'm learning more about this sim. They, they have way more at their fingertips than we ever did. And this svg, I mean, this is really tough competition. More so than I, this is my opinion. So I think SVG is one for the record books and he deserves all the credit. And I, you know, just. And over in Europe, that's what they grow up with. They grow up with road courses. Kenny, you've been to some places overseas. Do, do they race oval anywhere over there?
Kenny Schrader
Any place I go, they do. Well, I was, I hate, I hated the road courses so bad started and then when I started driving for Rick, it's like, oh, I can't hate this. I gotta go, you know. So I just got in a different mindset and we started taking our own cars to some ARCA races and some Southwest tour races and places. Arca, north or east, whatever it is now, and made myself start Liking them and turned out like them. But it was that one of those mindset things, but I stayed away from them as long as I could and. But you know, they are. They are fun and worldwide. You know, the road racing is a lot bigger than the oval racing.
Alan Dietz
And you are seeing more oval racing, though, around the world. Like the NASCAR Mexico series, they've got some ovals. I think Brazil has got an oval or two now. The NASCAR Europe series is running on some ovals. And then Australia, I mean, Australia is the closest to. To the United States as far as the type of racetracks they run on. But you know what? This is for that Australian supercar series that Van Gisbergen came from and Marcus Ambrose came from, it says a lot. And they brought Van Ginsbergen in because you got that automatic bid into the playoffs if you want to race. So now that you don't have that anymore, he's got to perform. He's 16th in the points now, you know, so that tells you what he's been doing on the ovals, too, to get, you know, where he's at in the points right now.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, I just. My thought is that SVG could have, I guess, but it seems like road course racing is where it's at, where he's from. So that's what he does, you know. Okay. Kenny and Dietz, we talked about this before we went on the show. Thought we'd give a shout out to second and third place, especially third place. But Michael McDowell runs second. That is his second top five of the year, both road courses. Kenny. Michael McDowell. I didn't realize it, you know, I mean, I guess always did, but he's a road course expert.
Kenny Schrader
Michael McDowell is, you know, and also he did it on the same strategy, I believe.
Herman Schrader
Yes, you're right.
Kenny Schrader
Svg, he pit it, passed every. All them other cars just like SVG did. Except, you know, for the leader. It also, I mean, it says a lot for Michael. It also says a lot for Spire. Guess what? They're a real team now. You know, they've grown and grown and they're proving what they can do. Third place, Little Gibbs, right?
Herman Schrader
Yep. Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
On the. On the saving fuel strategy. Yeah, he's wearing points. Where's he at in points right now? I mean, he has done. He has done a great job. You know, he just. You can't use. You got to give him a lot of credit. He's getting it done.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And I'll go to the controversy side. No matter what you think of Ty Gibbs, he falls right underneath The Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch. I am convinced because you know, Joe Gibbs is his grandpa, that in professional sports they teach you to focus on what's what matters. I am totally convinced that Ty Gibbs is very strong minded and he might know about the people talking crap about him all the time, but it sure does not show up in his driving. So all the credit to Ty Gibbs from me because I know all the crap he's got to hear. And man, I'm impressed that he is able to weed it out. And you know, he's already won at Bristol this year. And where's he at? Allen 6th. Wasn't that delicious?
Kenny Schrader
So good.

Let me tell you. 19. Oh something. I'm doing an autograph or not a question answer thing with Jeff Gordon. This is after he'd won his first championship at Hendrick. One of the questions was, and this, this goes to Ty. One of the questions was, Jeff, we watched you when you first started on Thursday night. Thunder and Raleigh, Hemling's Midget. And then we watched you in so and so. Sprint car and Bill Davis's Busch car. You've always had really good equipment. How much does that help you? And I'm like, oh, I want to hear this answer. You know, it was, it was great. He said, oh man, it makes so much difference when you got that good equipment and those, you know, there's really good people that you can work with working on those cars. It's just so much better said. The only thing I can tell you though, whether it was driving Raleigh's Midget into turn three at IRP or driving the Silver Crown car into turn one at the Hoosier Hunter or driving Bill Davis's car into turn one at Daytona Every time I looked around, I was the only one in there.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, he drove for all those different car owners, and he still won. And there's one that's consistent. Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. And he's getting it done.
Alan Dietz
He.
Kenny Schrader
That's what I mean about Ty. You say whatever you want, but he's the only one working those pedals in that steering wheel and the shifter, and he's getting it done. Yeah.
Herman Schrader
So good.
Alan Dietz
Let me ask you all a question real quick. When both of you guys were coming along, when. When you got to the Cup Series, you drove lesser. Up until about Jeff Gordon, you drove less for equipment. And then you. You graduated. And I'm saying this is with everybody. Dale Earnhardt, with, I can't think of his name right now. Eisenhower, I think, was his last name. And, you know, Bill Elliott and Ricky Rudd, they own, you know, it was cars that their dad's owned and stuff like that. Do you feel like when you start in lesser equipment like that, does it make you. Does it make you better because you have to learn to do more with less, or does it hurt almost, in a way, because it makes you doubt your talent?
Herman Schrader
Let me take this one, because this one really pisses me off. Dale Jr. Cannot help that. He's Dale Jr. And Dale Jr. Was given the best equipment there was right away. Michael Andretti, you know, listen, I wasn't in that deal. I mean, I had to. In Kenny Shreya. I'm not answering for Kenny. But I had to come up the Hardwell. I had nothing, all right? I had John Childs give me a little money. I had to build my own ASA cars. But I. I'm over here. What. What I'm saying is I'm bragging on the people. I'm bragging on the people that are given the good rides right away. Here's the bottom line. I asked Dale Jr. One time. I said, junior, you're so famous. His answer to me was brilliant. He said, I can't help it. So I understand, Dietz, that everybody wants everybody to grow up poor and walk through a foot of snow, but they can't help it. What are you going to do? Go? No, I don't want a good car. Now, I'm not yelling at you. I'm just saying that this is always the way it's been in life. Oh, we like Ricky Thornton because he grew up in a subdivision and he's poor. Well, listen, not everybody can be poor. It doesn't work that way. Some people are just born. And then Dale Sr. Says here, Jr. And then Bill Elliott says, hey, Chase, we're going to sit down with Rick Hendrick and we're going to lay out your future. You don't ever hear any about Dale Jr. Or Michael Andretti or, you know, it's the way it is and you got to go with it because you can't tell those kids to go back in their mama's womb. It's the way they were born. So if you take the very famous drivers, hell, they've been given a silver spoon. Dale Jr. Has been given a silver spoon. I mean, it's the way it is. And I've talked to Dale Jr about it and he said, I can't help it. Schrader, what's your point on growing up with good race cars?
Kenny Schrader
I agree with you. You know, when you climb in one of those really good cars right off the bat, that's a lot of pressure, you know, and. But there's a lot more pressure in that lap, more pressure in that garage area than there used to be. When I started cup Racing, ran five races in 84, then went full time 85 driving for Mr. Dunleavy, there wasn't a whole lot of pressure. I just had to. I just had to not knock defenders off it and try to learn them. Them, them guys that are getting in those top tier cars. Gotta remember everybody's got the same car now. They don't have same people working on it, but they got the same car.
Alan Dietz
Well, no, and what I was gonna say is, is it does work the opposite way. Because when you're in one of those good cars, look at how people talked about Ty Gibbs the last couple of years. You're in the best car. You hadn't won a race in three years and you already starting to hear it a little bit with Zillich. You know, you won 12 Xfinity races or whatever it was, and now you're in this 88 car and you can't run in the top 20. You know, Jimmie Johnson, you know, he came out of that Herzog car in the O'Reilly series now and got to the 48 and didn't do a whole lot in it in those first few races. He ran in 2001 at the end of the year, but then he comes out in 2002 and he blows everybody's doors off. So I think it works both ways. I just, I wondered if, if when, you know, you're in that lesser equipment back in those days, if it affected the way that you looked at your talent, if you said, well, this car is not running good because I'm not putting it up front. Whereas it didn't have the engine or the employees or the arrow to actually, you know, show what your talent really was.
Herman Schrader
Let me say this because this is. This is for me. I would cut off one of my fingers to do what Kenny Schrader has done, and he's one cup races.
Kenny Schrader
I did cut off one of my.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, okay, this. This is for me, this whole answer and question. Kenny Schroeder has one in Cup O'Reilly and trucks. Okay? I would cut off a finger to do that. All right? Now, once I got into good equipment, okay, once I. When Steve park got hurt and they put me in that Pennzoil car, well, then I showed up, right? I got in that car and I immediately set quick time at Rockingham and led the whole damn race and got beat by Joe Nemechek and. And Andy Petrie made a brilliant call. They short pitted Joe and he outrun me. But when I jumped in that car, and this is what you're asking, I thought to myself, what the hell have I been driving my whole career? Because when I got in that Punzo car, it just hauled automatic ass. You know, you'd make a lap, you'd come in, you're like, oh, that wasn't a really good lap. And I come in, the crew's like, man, what a lap. You qualified third. You're like, what? And I said, quick time at Rockingham. So, you know, life is hard. You're not given everything. But Dave Despain said something I'll never forget, the great TV show host. He said, fast drivers find fast rides. So you know what Kenny Schrader done? He showed up at Hendrick and he won. I never got a good ride, but I never bitched and I never moaned. I never cried. I'm not a whiner. I'm just not. Because I grew up in St. Louis, and we never complained about Fred Titi having better motors. My dad always said, man, we need to get what Fred TD got. And that's what I grew up with. I grew up with, this guy's got that. We need to get that. I never whined and cried because I was not Jeff Gordon. So does that make sense to you? I like your question.
Alan Dietz
No, it absolutely does. It just like I said, I mean, think about all the guys that came along, you know, back in the 70s, 80s and 90s that were. Were hot shoes, you know, Doug Hebron and Brad Knoff, Singer and. And guys like this who were winning, right? Open Wheel races or whatever it was that they were racing. But at that time, you didn't get into the top ride. You automatically got into, and I don't even say a junkie ride, you got into a car that did not have the finances to go out there and compete against Junior Johnston Childress and stuff like that. And, and a lot of those guys didn't make it. And again, credit to the Schrader, you know, that 90 car was a mid pack car and he went and put it at the front and you know, one, I think, what was it, a bush clash or.
Herman Schrader
We, we bragged on you. You can talk about yourself now.
Kenny Schrader
The 90 car had, you know, they had won a race before and we, we won a qualifying race with. The 90 car was a good team, an underfunded good team with a lot of different drivers. When the 90 car got a budget for the second year in a row, not a big budget, but a budget for the second year in a row, and crew chief Bob Johnson came in, the 90 car showed what the 90 team could do. And it was my third year, started my third year, so I had a little bit more idea what was going on, but that was just, just showed what a underfunded team could do, you know, with money. But anyway, we're way off, we're way off subject.
Herman Schrader
No, no, it's all good. Okay, we'll end it there. We'll end it there. But, boy, that was, that hit a nerve with me because it doesn't bother me. I just feel bad for Dale Jr. Or Chase Elliott. It's like, oh, their dads are, you know, the only reason. Because listen, I've Talked to Dale Jr about this, specifically at Sonoma, Dale Jr was on the back of his car and he was moping. And I said, what's wrong with you? He goes, oh, I'm. I'm Dale Senior's boy and I qualified 30th. I said, I put my arm around him, you know, so see this, this goes both ways. Chase Elliott and Dale Jr. They were, they were given good stuff right away and they showed up. And that's the key to anything in life. You know, if you want to win a, if you want to win in the NFL, if you want to win in baseball, you gotta have, you gotta have good pitchers, you gotta have good quarterbacks. That's the key to it. And the way you get there sometimes you cannot control. So it's a tough, tough subject. And yeah, I'll leave you with, with this one, Schrader. Somebody said, oh, my God, the year just keeps getting worse for Joey Logano. Six. Six finishes, the 30th worst. I said, Joey Logano is a three time champion. He's won it all. He can finish 30th for 10 races in a row. It don't matter. He's having a tough start, so.
Kenny Schrader
He's having a tough start, but I bet when those 16 are divided off, he'll. He's in it.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, it's good. Good subject matter. Deets really like that.
Kenny Schrader
That's.
Herman Schrader
That's a whole show right there one day about how you make it into the big time. And you're right. Hevron slamming Sammy Swindell, Steve Kinzer, you know, Tim McCready, they all got spit out. And me and Schrader know those guys are great. But I mean, listen, the very best in competition have been to nascar and they didn't last a month. So it's just sad but true. Wasn't that delicious?
Wells Fargo Announcer 2
So good.
Wells Fargo Announcer

Okay, switching subjects, Kenny. Okay, this is comedy. All the fans in the Northeast, they were pissed at nascar. Oh, my God. You give us this May date for Watkins Glen. We hate you, nascar. And before they could complain too long, NASCAR holds a press conference and says, okay, that was just this year. Next year, Watkins Glen is going to be in September and it's going to be a playoff race. Kind of a. A psych. They couldn't complain too long. What's your thought on that whole timeline?
Kenny Schrader
I don't remember when we used to go up there. Seemed like we used to go up there in the middle of summer. It was July or August or something when we went up there.
Alan Dietz
It's August every year after Michigan, I think.
Kenny Schrader
Pardon me.
Alan Dietz
Is August every year after Michigan?
Kenny Schrader
I think so. Hey, you know, it just. It needs to go back. Whatever. It pretty much makes you think that they know what next year's schedule is, which I'm pretty sure they do. But, you know, that's. That'll be good, having it back there. But the weather, you know, that's the one thing. We could have had a beautiful couple weeks in May up there, too. You don't know.
Herman Schrader
Well, it ended up being beautiful, but they just had rain early in the week, which made the parking lots of muddy. But, Kenny, you and I've been there in August, you know that, and it's rained and the parking lots are muddy. They. They're on hills. They can't pave it. Okay, so this is something I want to serve up to both of you. And, Kenny, I like what you said. I think NASCAR knows what they're doing on the scheduling. They just can't tell people because we know that Coronado in San Diego, we know that's a one deal. That's a one race deal, celebrating 250 years. I think that's what's going to happen. And with that being said, what race goes in place of San Diego next year? I think Ben Kennedy is the architect of this. Kenny Schrader, Ben Kennedy, they said, NASCAR said, look, we're gonna. We're gonna move a race or two around every year. What is your thought on that, Kenny?
Kenny Schrader
I don't have a thought on it because I'm not involved in wherever it is. If I'm at home, I will be watching. Watching it or trying to listen to it, maybe go see it. But when the schedule comes out, that's when I wait. I mean, we definitely got no involvement in that. We'll just see what happens.
Herman Schrader
I just. My point, for me, my opinion is that it's exciting because, you know, although, you know, we left. You know, Rockingham, we left Wilkesboro, we're back at all those tracks, and it is fun to go, oh, my God, where are we going?
Kenny Schrader
Okay.
Herman Schrader
Yep.
Kenny Schrader
Let's just remember, remind everybody that a lot of those tracks, NASCAR never left them.
Herman Schrader
Yep, True.
Kenny Schrader
It sure looked like they did, because all of a sudden, there weren't races. But we didn't go back because the family that owned the track decided it was a good time to sell, and they sold those races. NASCAR didn't say, hey, we're not coming back here anymore. You know, the Rockingham got sold and the dates got moved. Same thing with North Wilkesboro. You know, NASCAR didn't say, we're not coming here anymore.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, I wonder. Listen, this is just a show, okay? We're having fun. Do we go back to Road America? You know, I mean, it's always been crowded up there. The people in the stands. But anyway, okay, that's that. But so good news for the Northeast. Watkins Glenn is in the playoffs next year. The races are always good there. I believe it deserves a playoff date because it's just always shows up good.
Kenny Schrader
It's beautiful. It's beautiful facility.
Herman Schrader
Right? Okay, that was crazy. We're at 40 minutes. That was good stuff. But kind of to end the NASCAR deal, guys, something was said that I guess caught me off guard with all these TV companies, you know, taking their allotment of race. You know, Fox TV takes this race, NBC Peak acts this race, you know, so on and so forth. There is only one more race for the Fox network and that's next week at Dover for the All Star race. Fox is already done with points racing. Man. That's something to get used to. I mean, it's not really a subject matter. I just wanted to throw it out there that I don't remember network having that short of a year in ages. When I worked for Fox, we always got done the middle of June, which was like 16 races. I think it's a little confusing.
Kenny Schrader
How many races, Deets, how many races have we already ran? Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Is the year going that fast? Deets, Kenny, good hands. You got it.
Alan Dietz
No, but I'll tell you here in a second.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, I'm going to kill a little time here. Kenny. Dover, the All Star race, they're going to run the truck race there on Friday. O'Reilly is somewhere else. Truck race on Friday at Dover. Then, you know, they, they start the All Star week. What do you got? Deeds?
Alan Dietz
12 races. So a third of the.
Kenny Schrader
No.
Alan Dietz
Is that right? A third of the way through? Yeah, a third of the way through as far as points races go. But see, Fox gets. Fox gets a little bit screwed up because they get the clash, they get the, the duels and they. And now they get All Star race. So they get. They get more races than 12, but they're non points races. So, you know, I heard you say about the confusion, you know, the whole deal with the new TV deal back in 2001 was you were going to be able to go to Fox or you were going to be able to go to NBC. And when I was growing up, they were on six different networks. And now all of a sudden they're on six different networks again. But unfortunately that Was the only way nascar could get the money to have a huge TV deal because fox and NBC or no other networks were going to put up a couple of billion dollars to get it. So you had to throw prime and tnt and. And all that in there.
Kenny Schrader
It's exactly no different than why the cars have six different sponsors or so on them for the year instead of someone just sponsoring a car for the year like the old days. Same difference.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Okay.
Kenny Schrader
Seems to play a big part.
Herman Schrader
There's an old saying, money talks and bull walks. I haven't heard that saying in ages, but it's so true. It still holds true to this day. Okay, before we move on from this, everybody, even people inside the sport say, why in the world are we going to dover? So we're going to Dover, Kenny. Are they going to surprise us? Is this, is this going to be a good all star race? What is your thought? I mean, even nascar says why are we going to dover? They're all like, oh boy, are they buying time, Kenny? Or what is the thought? I mean, I know we don't know, but what the hell is this about?
Kenny Schrader
You know, I probably don't have the right thought on this. I just got my thought. Yeah, I don't know why and how we're going to Dover, but I also don't know if the all star race and the shootout maybe haven't outlived themselves for a little while, you know, because they're just not getting. Of course nothing's like it was in the day, but I mean, you know, we like a lot of things we're seeing, you know, with the attendance and everything. But I'm a little confused. Going to Dover, they were.
Alan Dietz
They were sponsor created races. The. The bush clash was supposed to be a 30 minute race on CBS the week before the 500 and the all star race was the winston. So they were sponsor created races. Now I have heard that there's a possibility that the shootout next year goes back to Daytona and it might be on the Monday night after the super bowl. I like to.
Herman Schrader
That's right there.
Alan Dietz
Yeah, I think that's a great idea. But yeah, this, this deal with dover, the other thing you got to remember is all star race has always been a speedway motorsports deal. And I don't know if that's a gentleman's agreement or what that is, but in dover, as bad as dover has been the last few years, you got to remember what market is it is in. It's close to Philadelphia, is close to new York. It just. The races aren't very good.
Herman Schrader
That reminds me of Steve o' Donnell and some people at nascar like Ben Kennedy. I read something this week was we've got to get back to California. It's too big of a mass of people, you know. Hey, Kenny and Alan, while you were talking, I scroll nascar two pieces of news. We are lucky at Herm and Schrader number one. Kenny, you always ask, what does Jeff Gluck's poll say out of 1551 people? The poll started 21 hours ago. Jeff Gluck's polls Something's still off because by now he'd have 15,000 people. Was Watkins Glen a good NASCAR race? 57% of the people say yes, 43% say no. Okay. But a feel good piece of message by Bob Pockrass. Bob Pockrass reports. Hayek Motorsports announces a contract extension for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. That will keep him there for at least a couple more years. And, and that is on the heels of Ryan Blaney announced a couple days ago Penske is going to keep Ryan Blaney for like a long term contract. So that's just unexpected. Kenny, what are your thoughts on Ryan Blaney and Ricky getting pretty good contract extensions?
Kenny Schrader
I think they both, I think they both deserve it. You know, I mean Ricky, them guys got an uphill battle, a one car team and stuff. I mean that's, that's tough. But they show up a lot. They have, they have don't sometimes get the finishes, you know, for that they doesn't represent the way they competed all day, but they've got speed. And Ryan, you know, why would he not want to drive for Penske and why would Penske not want him to drive the way they've success they've had?
Herman Schrader
Yeah, I agree with that 100% because I think you know that and I like the Hayek ownership because they know they're not a badass team and they know they got the driver to fit a team that can win, as Ricky has shown. So I agree with, I agree with Kenny Schrader that that driver fits that team. And my God, Ryan Blaney, he's, he's a dream for Roger Penske, a championship and wins and does commercials and really good stuff. Okay, guys, let's go to the trucks in O'Reilly before we get to Casey Kane's big World of Outlaw win. Kaden Honeycutt. DE I'll allow you the pleasure to do this. It, it just came out on social media on this Monday morning. Not just did Caden Honeycutt Win the truck race over Connect. Zilch. But they say he had a dream weekend. Why did Kate and Honeycutt have a dream weekend?
Alan Dietz
He had a dream weekend because he won the ARCA race before the truck race. The truck race wins huge coming after what Corey Haim did in that 11 truck. So I think that takes a lot of pressure off of him in that regard. That's on Friday. Then he goes Saturday to ace a tough little short track close to Greensboro. And I. I don't know if this has ever happened in the cars tour, but he won the pro late model race and late model start race. Two different teams, two totally different types of cars on a very, very tough racetrack. And I think his stock has gone way up just in the last three days. And I love. I love what he's done, because I remember going to the snowball Derby in, like, 2020. He's driving one of Donnie Wilson's cars, and he finishes in the top five. And we're like, who is this? And he had come straight out of dirt cars in Texas. I knew at one point he was working in the shop at rfk. I think he went somewhere else after that. But you talk about a guy that has done it the right way and earned it, and thankfully, he has. Has gotten opportunities that, you know, hundreds of guys out there in this country deserve and only a few get Kenny.
Kenny Schrader
That's a huge weekend. I talked to his daddy. It's been quite a few years, half a dozen years. He's talked to him every now and then, and they were beating and banging, doing everything they could try to get him up there. So it's. It's just good to see you talking. You know, you have a. A breakthrough race or a breakthrough couple races. Wow, that's a weekend. I mean, that's a huge weekend.
Herman Schrader
You know, I have another subject matter in here, guys, but we'll save it for another day. I just want to tease it. There's this rally cry for the NASCAR cup series to be O'Reilly. In other words, the fans like O'Reilly cars better than cup. But let's just say that I'm excited about Kenny to get out of town. Hey, well, we'll save that later, okay? In the O'Reilly series con. Oh, my God. This was. This was heartbreak, but still incredible. They run the O'Reilly race, and Jesse Love. Oh, man, I. You know, you listen to Jesse Love's interview. He goes, I've been putting a lot of practice into becoming a better road racer. You know, it's kind of, like, you hear the story and then you go back and forth. But Jesse Love, I mean, he did an incredible job. Obviously, he did not get the win. I get that. But all you talk about heartbreak, Kenny, they come in the last corner and counter Zillow doesn't. Doesn't hit him, but breathes on him. You know that. That deal where he took the air off my spoiler and. And Connor gets underneath of him and wins it coming off the last corner.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, I mean, those. Those days are tough. But guess what? That's. That's the only lap that really matters. And, you know, you just got to settle for second at that time, lick your wounds and try to get better and learn from it. But he's been doing a great job.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, he said. He said, he said on Sunday, he goes, I gotta admit, I was depressed, but the sun came up, so. Yeah, we've all been there. I know that. Dietz, you got anything on that race?
Alan Dietz
No, I just. I think one thing with. He took the air off my spoiler also could be translated, AKA he forced my butt to drive farther into that corner than I wanted to.
Herman Schrader
Yes.
Alan Dietz
And that's. That's what. And that's a Connor. I mean, that's a credit to Connor Zillich, even if he'd have laid a little bit of a bumper on him. It's like you said, Herm. I mean, he's one of the best road racers there is out there. Like, one of the top two or three best. And. And I. I'm sure Jesse's disappointed, but I would say he'll. He'll get a. Well, I don't know if anybody will ever get a road course win at this point between Connor Zillich and Van Gisbergen, but he may finish second to him. And that. That might feel pretty good.
Herman Schrader
Wasn't that delicious?

Okay, and finally we got dirt racing and we got jokes. But Kenny, I'll let you just have this because I've never drove a. I made a hot couple hot laps in the world of outlaw sprint car. They're beast. So Casey Kane has owned world of outlaw sprint car teams forever. Brad Sweet has drove for him. You know, Casey Kane has. Has put the work in. He has been in a world of outlaw sprint cup owner for years. Got championships with Brad Sweep. But he has never won. This is what they say. He has never won a big touring series race. He does it the hard way. Kenny Schrader, he wins at Williams Grove. Casey Kane and he outruns the big boys. He outruns Hansch Child. He outruns gravel. What are your thoughts?
Kenny Schrader
Well, when you win at one of those races, you don't just outrun the world outlaw guys. You. You outrun the Pennsylvania posse guys too. And he did it. He did it probably harder yet because he didn't do it in his car.
Herman Schrader
So what's the deal there?
Kenny Schrader
He's driving at 39 car. I was driving that 39 car. Is it Andy Macri? Is it Macri's. Yeah, pronounce it Macri. That, you know, Hall's butt. 39 car got injured. They put Casey in it for a little bit. Then Casey convincingly wins Friday night at Williams Grove. I think he also won the heat, won the dash. Might have had quick time. He, I mean he was all night long. I, I had no idea that Casey had. Had not won a world of outlaw show. But that was his first world outlaw win, which is kind of a neat deal. It's, you know, I mean, he's obviously plenty capable of doing it. A lot of times it just hadn't happened yet. So that's, that's very, that's very neat to see.
Herman Schrader
I'm sorry, but I gotta interrupt this story. I'm watching a video of Watkins Glen right now. That was a mini tornado that went in the infield. It, it's. It was a mini. You know those storms you see out in the desert, you know where you look over there's like a Mini. That's what happened at Watkins Glen. One of those tornadoes and it's going around in circles and all of a sudden there goes that tent. I'm always scrolling for news. It's my new strategy here on herm and Schrader. So Kenny, something that I know that happens. But when I watched Casey Kane win Williams Grove I went damn he half a quarter to halfway down the straightaway. They carry the right front tire because I guess that wing put so much downforce on the rear. What does that feel like to. I mean are you even steering the car?
Kenny Schrader
I don't know. I never ran. I never ran up there. I see that happen there quite a bit. I never ran a wing sprint car there. Ran Silver crown car there. But Williams Grove's got real long straightaways and pretty tight turns for. For that size track. And you see them guys carrying the right front front going down because the car is loaded so much on the left rear. I don't know what happens when you get down turn. Obviously it turns.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
It's got to feel a little funny.
Herman Schrader
It's a sight to behold. And you gotta. I'm sure you gotta be nervy. Okay. Congratulations to Casey Kane. I did listen to a couple interviews and he is jacked up and he is going to drive that car more. So congratulations to Casey Kane the rest of dirt racing. Kenny, I'll let you take it but I know there was a lot of rain outs. I know that. Illinois, man, they got rained out at Farmer city. Got rained out. Lincoln for super late models. Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
Did Fairbury get to run?
Herman Schrader
Yeah, they did.
Kenny Schrader
I don't know.
Herman Schrader
It rubbered up. But nobody complained because they liked the race track so much they. They gave it to him. But Brandon shepherd had a great weekend. B Shep1 and I'm sure it rubbered up because they had had so much rain in the area they were probably afraid to lay the water to it.
Alan Dietz
Do you see where they suspended that guy for two years for. In a 602 late model for. He. He got mad at I 75 in Tennessee. And I guess whoever wrecked him or whatever on the racetrack was in the pits getting the car worked on changing tires and that guy rammed them and it knocked the two crew guys like five feet over. Beyond that were working on the right side of the car. I saw a couple of people saying, oh, do you. You think that was too harsh? And I'm like, I don't think that was too harsh at all.
Herman Schrader
I saw the video this morning. It is. It is sickening. The man took his race car while the team was changing the tire. He ran into it.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. Problem is, you know, I don't know what association that was, but a lot of times people get thrown out of a track, even you know, they get caught with something illegal or the actions that they do. This is where all the tracks need to be together. And it's like, hey, you're not just out of here for two years. You're at like ump. If you're out there, if you're out, let's say for six months. You're out of a hundred racetracks for six months. So everybody sticks together because you get thrown out of one place, you go down the road 50 miles the other direction and race there. It's. It's not a real big deal. So I don't know what the, what
Alan Dietz
the deal that happened with a pavement modified guy up at Thompson a couple of years ago. He got mad and I guess the guy rigged him with. The kid was like 13 years old or something and he goes and starts roughing him up. But not only did Thompson suspend him, but the sanctioning bodies up there in New England suspended him. A couple of the racetrack suspended him. And that's exactly what you're saying is if that doesn't happen with this guy, you know, he'll just go somewhere else. But he actually, I think he got arrested for life sold or something.
Herman Schrader
He should have. I'm thinking about Schrader right now, so let's do jokes. We are exactly 1, 000.
Alan Dietz
Okay, here we go. These are one liners. Why do birds fly south? Because it's too far to walk.
Herman Schrader
That's funny.
Alan Dietz
Okay, why do you. What do you call a fly with a sore throat? A horse fly.
Kenny Schrader
A fly.
Herman Schrader
That's the best one.
Alan Dietz
Okay, and here's the last one. Dogs can't operate MRI machines, but cats can get it. CAT scan.
Herman Schrader
Oh, yeah. Good ones today, actually.
Alan Dietz
Thank you.
Kenny Schrader
Had a couple better ones today, I'll give you that.
Alan Dietz
Thank you.
Kenny Schrader
That's a couple better ones.
Herman Schrader
Okay. I'm excited for Kenny Schrader, everybody, because he's back to what he loves doing. Kenny, let's end the show. What are you up to?
Kenny Schrader
Well, we're getting ready to shove off. What a surprise that home last night so we can shove off this morning. This Friday we got Federated Auto Parts play days. So I'm glasses on this Wednesday and Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday. And then we race Friday, Saturday, Monday and next Friday, Saturday. So it's a small, I don't know, almost two week trip with 10 days in the car.
Herman Schrader
And that's what he loves doing, everybody. That's awesome.
Kenny Schrader
But we're racing. Let me, let me throw this out. We're racing last week and Friday, South Buxton Speed Raceway, Sir Bucks and Raceway Saturday Merrittville, Sunday IRP the following Monday with the midget and Silver Bullet raceway in Michigan. The Saturday, the 23rd. So that's all on this trip.
Herman Schrader
I was gonna say this and I thought, no, they'll edit it out. But I'm gonna go ahead and say it anyway. I'm gonna give DEET some work. Kenny Schrader gonna be happier than a pig in everybody. He loves it. Okay. No, you're gonna be excited. You're God. I mean, this is your jam.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, it'll be good.
Herman Schrader
I'd love it for you.
Kenny Schrader
It'll be good.
Herman Schrader
Okay, It'll be good. This Friday, I am going up to. While Kenny Schrader and myself were on the road, I was asked to come on up to Plymouth Speedway. It's back to asphalt. I'm going to run a wedge super late model at the same time. They said, do you think Schrader will come? I said, well, you can call him, but I'm pretty sure he's in Canada, so I'm going by myself. But they wanted Schrader and myself. So I am going to Plymouth, Indiana this Friday in my pickup truck and I'm gonna turn around and I'm gonna run I55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway on Saturday.
Alan Dietz
Those paved wage wage super late models are fast. I mean, they don't mess around.
Herman Schrader
Schrader and I. Yeah, and Kenny Schrader and myself have raced the hell out of them at South Bend, Indiana. And they're gnarly. And for me, I. I have to have a good headrest because even at a small track they pull some damn G forces. And so I do know what I'm getting into. Deets. And you are right. They. They do you. You better be in that seat. Right?
Kenny Schrader
Because man, is that a no mirror deal?
Herman Schrader
I'm sure it is.
Kenny Schrader
That's no mirrors, right?
Herman Schrader
I know that guy. Okay? We're on the show on this. I'm laughing already. You and I went to South Bend and I'm. I'm watching this guy spin you out and he's roughing you up. So when he moved you, I got to him and I wrecked his ass. Because he wrecked you or he spun you out Air. I got in the infield and everybody's like, herman, that was awesome. That guy deserved that. But you know what he was doing? Kenny wasn't even blocking. It was on the restart. And he just. He didn't wipe you out, but he messed you up. I'm like, you son of a so. So I moved that guy going into turn three at South Bend. Oh, yeah, Here I go. Wish me luck, everybody. I'll have my helmet on.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, don't take it off.
Herman Schrader
All right, everybody, that's it. Remember, Herman Schrader is on The Kenny Wallace YouTube show. On YouTube. And if you want to listen to us, onto the way to the racetrack, you can find it on Dirty Mo Media podcast. Anything else, guys?
Alan Dietz
I just. I want to say happy Mother's Day to my mom, my wife, and. And you guys wives. And I know you got some granddaughters, so your daughters.
Kenny Schrader
Oh, yeah.
Alan Dietz
So happy Mother's Day to everybody.
Herman Schrader
