The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media. I'm looking at Kenny Schrader right now.
Kenny Schrader
He had a drink during the show. I mean.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. How in the world did we agree to do a podcast?
Kenny Schrader
I like spending time with you.
Herman Schrader
That makes me happy.
Kenny Schrader
Well, it's all about making you happy.
Herman Schrader
We're always honest.
Kenny Schrader
We don't know that we're not in trouble already. And sometimes truthful. What makes you think you're not a little different?
Herman Schrader
You're weird, too, Herman Schrader.
Kenny Schrader
Well, two thirds of U.S. middle of America. And it's cold. It's cold everywhere, I think.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. What, what's that all about? And then tomorrow it's going to be like 55. It's, it's like up and down like a heartbeat this year.
Kenny Schrader
Why? It has to do with February.
Herman Schrader
Okay, Kenny, this reminds me. Remember when we would have, you know, church inside the garage areas and somebody would start their motors up and they'd be upset. And one time you said you're holding shirts in a garage.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, but a NASCAR garage on race morning.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Dietz, how you doing, buddy?
Deets
I'm great. I'm really good. I'll tell you. That was, that was some race this weekend. I, I know we're going to talk about it, but I wish Speedway Motorsports would do the same thing to Texas that they've done to Atlanta.
Herman Schrader
Well, now, wait a minute, wait a minute.
Kenny Schrader
I'm gonna interrupt a second. What they did to that track didn't make the difference. The fact they slowed the cars down four seconds, I think that had more to do with it.
Herman Schrader
It's. And listen, I will, I will give my opinion on that. It Is really hard to race side by side at 200 mile an hour. We have a much better chance. We have a much better chance. And I agree with Kenny. We have a much better chance at racing side by side at 150 miles per hour.
Deets
Well. Well, could you. Could you race like that at Texas if. I don't think you could race like that at Texas. Even slowing them down because of. Especially how flat turn 3 and 4 is there now since they reconfigured it last time.
Herman Schrader
Well, let's put it this way. They did a good job at Atlanta.
Deets
They did a good job.
Kenny Schrader
Phenomenal racing. Phenomenal. I didn't get to watch races this week, you know, which I always watch. I mean, I might be doing something else, but always watch. But I was in my old Suburban, had to drive Dallas and back, and I listened to all three of them on Go prm and I listened to every. Every. All of them, and it was. It was great. It was exciting. I mean, it was like, damn, them guys talk their butts. It'd been a good job for you, Kenny, because you could have talked a lot. They're talking about this guy's going from fourth. Now he's second. Now he's fourth. Now he's six. Now he's just. I mean, it's stressful listening to it. It was so exciting.
Herman Schrader
Well. Well, let. Let's start right there, guys. We're jacked up on sundrop. We're already. We're already to the truck race. Okay, Kenny. We always have fun doing this, and you teased us. I think everybody knows what I did this week. I went to Atlanta on Saturday. We decided to go down Saturday evening because we knew Sunday morning this crazy wind and super cold weather. So we went down Saturday night with John's cattoni. But you teased us. What were you doing in Dallas?
Kenny Schrader
Well, I didn't want to be in Dallas. It was a celebration of life for buddy Charles Sitton. A lot of racers all over the country known as Smiley's. We call them Smiley. Smiley's performance, racing equipment, whatever. There's like four locations. Tom Lorenz bought it from Smiley, I think, in 1985. So Tom's had it a long time, but Smiley was still there. Smiley got sick on us. He was 85. I believe he got sick on it and passed away in January. And they had a celebration down there, and, man, I had a hell of a turnout. It was. It was really a neat deal.
Herman Schrader
You're a good man, Kenny Schrader.
Kenny Schrader
Well, Smiley is. He was. I mean, all Right. Smiling new people all over the country. I mean, everybody knew Smiley knew who he was.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, definitely a legend. No doubt. I know that name for sure. Okay, before we get to racing, I. I think it would be crazy if we didn't talk about sports just for 30 seconds. The Olympics are over, guys. The Olympics are over. But man, oh, man, what a year it was. The US Hockey men and women won gold. Jack Hughes is our new national hero. Early in the game, he gets his teeth knocked out, and he scores the winning goal with his teeth knocked out. This Elisa Lou, she won gold. Figure skating, we won gold. And bob sled, man, I'll tell you what, it. You know, it's kind of funny. Do you. I mean, I don't know about you guys, but you go three weeks and you used to turn in the TV on, and there's the Olympics. And then last night was the end. So, Kenny, did you see any of it?
Kenny Schrader
No, I didn't. I mean, I heard a little bit about it. I heard about the hockey deal. I thought the NASCAR races were the sports. But you know, what's the neatest thing about the Olympics? I didn't hear any big. I mean, I just didn't hear any big controversies. Any big. No problems. You know that. That's the best part.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, it was. It was awesome. Deets, any. Anything stand out to you?
Deets
I. I love the Winter Olympics. I. I like the Winter Olympics way better than Summer Olympics. I don't watch very much in Summer Olympics, and it's just faster. And, you know, for folks that like racing, the. The Winter Olympics are faster. And, you know, you got Lee Dippy calling the. The bobsled and skeleton and lose stuff. And with America celebrating 250 years this year to go out there and win those gold medals, especially the hockey one, I just. I just thought it was. It was great. And I. I'm the same way as you. I kind of turned it this morning, and I was like, oh, that's right. There's no Olympics this morning. So then I turned it to south park, and then I turned it to you guys. So here we are.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Okay, guys, just had to give a nod to USA Sports if you can't. If you can't give a nod to USA Sports, then you shouldn't have a pulse. So congratulations to everybody in America. What a great Olympics. All right, here we go. Kenny, you said you listened to the races. The cup race, it was a barn burner. And it. It's. It's impossible to break this race down because there was so Much. So much going on. I mean, they were spinning out by themselves. Kenny, what do you think of that?
Deets
We.
Herman Schrader
We had Austin Dillon spin out by himself. We had Denny Hamlin not spin out, but they're getting sideways by themselves now at Atlanta. Kenny, the track is getting older and handling is now coming in.
Kenny Schrader
I think we've been spinning out by ourselves since we started running in circles. It's those turns, and you're trying to go through the turn as fast as you can. Now, even though they've slowed the cars down. You know, you, you. You said it. With the track giving up, it just gets slicker and slicker and slicker. And you always free up your car to try to make a little more speed. Because I learned in that movie, you know, that loose is fast and tight is slow. Well, you try to make the car a little bit freer, you know, where the. Where the back end just wants. Wants to come around just a little bit because that makes it a little faster. And now it's a, you know, it's a fine line there. So just everything they're doing is right.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, it is really hard. You know, everybody wants this, they wants that. But, you know, for the first three years, the paving was fresh and perfect and really nice. And now when we turn the TV on, especially this year, Kenny, you know, you can see tar strips. I mean, it's like, whoa, talk about a big change over the winter. But handling is now a thing. And it's funny, right, because we've always talked about speed, but now the speed is matching the racetrack. That is so hard to govern, you know, because for the, for the last three years, it's like, oh, man, we're just wide open. Yeah. Try it now. You know, so you definitely got to match the. The tires, the speed with the surface of the racetrack. And so let's just go right away to the finish and then we'll talk about some other things. But, But Kenny, Tyler reddick, he's running 18th. He's not even in the race. And. And they wreck. And they wreck. And they wreck, but they. They wreck. Not. Not one after another. You know, they wreck. And then 40 laps later, another big wreck. Running 18th, Tyler Redick comes to the lead with no right front fender. Everything else intact. Just your thoughts on that?
Kenny Schrader
Well, these cars are so aero sensitive that you can't do. Okay, it had, it had. It had the front end.
Herman Schrader
Oh, yeah, it was all there.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. So that's what's actually breaking the air. But yeah, it's. It's huge. You know, I mean, they can say whatever they want, and I know it makes a big difference. You know, maybe. Maybe if he'd had. Right from fender, maybe he'd had a little more downforce and his car wouldn't have been as good.
Herman Schrader
Who knows?
Kenny Schrader
You know, the fact is, he was able to win without a fender. That's pretty neat. That's pretty neat. That's back old days.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And we. We have to talk all about 2311 right now. What's really great for our sport is we know that Michael Jordan is the most famous athlete in the world since Muhammad Ali has passed away. And here he is for the last three years, and hardly anybody knows that he owns a NASCAR team. Now, Jamie Little at the Fox network has been interviewing the great Michael Jordan, and he's been happily giving interviews. And now all of a sudden, it seems like there's this larger amount of people in America that like, oh, Michael Jordan owns a NASCAR team, and it's because they're winning and they're interviewing him. Kenny, is that good? I think it's great for the sport. What's your take on Michael Jordan getting all these interviews now and reminding everybody that he owns cup teams?
Kenny Schrader
He should be interviewed because he's, you know, their. Their team's winning. So, I mean, it's just. It's got to be. It's got to be a big plus for the sport. I mean, he draws in, obviously, a lot of attention to people that, you know, aren't big followers of our sport. A whole different de demographic. So it has to be a. It has to be a plus big time.
Herman Schrader
So they, you know, Tyler Reddick, like I said, running 18th, but they go to Michael Jordan. During the break, they had a red flag because they had a big wreck. D. I thought this was awesome. From your perspective, they. They went to Michael Jordan before they went back. You know, there was four to go. Four to go. The red flag, and they go to Michael Jordan, and Michael Jordan's like, you know, we got two out there still. Of course, Bubba Wallace is leading. Looks like he's going to win it. I liked that they went to Michael Jordan with his car, leading Bubba Wallace, and then Bubba gives the lead up, doesn't stay low. You know, if Bubba stays low, then Tyler's right behind him. I don't know what made Bubba move up, because he left his. He left Tyler Reddick, and all Tyler Reddick did was just hold the lane and win the race. What did you think of that dynamic? With four to go? It was like the Michael Jordan show.
Deets
Well, I mean, you know, you could look the last two weeks, you know, Bubba Wallace probably had the strongest car. Now yesterday, I think the 45 was, was right there with the 23 until, until the fender issue. And, and, and I'm like you. I think if Bubba Wallace stays down there, you know, he wins the race. He was probably figuring, this car does not have a right front fender and it's going to, it'd be better to go up and, and block Hosar. But, you know, through the trial, we found out that, that Michael Jordan was the majority owner of that team. You know, nobody knew what the breakdown was between he and Denny Hamlin. So whether or not the cat's out of the bag or, or whatever, but, you know, I think Michael Jordan through that trial, I, you know, it kind of opened up people's eyes. And I think in his eyes, it's like, you know, what if this was important enough to, to go to trial with? Now that it's resolved, it needs to be just as important for me to be at these races and, and to be seen. And, and they're, they're hitting on all eight right now. I mean, there's no doubt about that. And having a guy like Michael Jordan front and center as a car owner is, there's no negatives to it at all as far as the sport goes.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, it just seems like I bring this up because it seems, it seems like, you know, he is the face right now, being interviewed so much. Kenny, there was always a thought in our day that, boy, if you win the Daytona 500, it, you know, it kind of jinxes you. You win, you win the Daytona 500. But here's Tyler Reddick back to back. I was reading X this morning and some of the media is out there, hasn't been done since our friend Matt Kenseth. Hey, by the way, Matt Kenseth is going to be on the Kyle Petty charity ride with us. Kenny and the Cal Petty charity ride, they had a 12:30 press conference with, with our boss, Mike Helton on Sunday, so that they making a big deal out of it. But Matt Ken said the last one to go back to back, it's, it's a rare feat. Just, just talk about that. You know what your thoughts are back to back.
Kenny Schrader
I never really thought of, you know, a curse, you know, winning Daytona. I'll, I'll. I gladly win Daytona and just take whatever comes with it, you know. You know, it's just great. I mean, what makes our sports so different is. Okay, first off, you, you know you win Daytona. Well, there was 39 other cars. You know, there wasn't just one other team, it was 39 other teams. So. So your odds aren't near as good as, you know, most of our, the stick and ball sports. And then to do it another week in a row, I mean it's great. But like I say, 2311 has shown that they are on top of their stuff right now. Now we're two races in to 36. So let's, you know, it's, we can't give it to them yet.
Deets
And, and you gotta be honest that Tyler Reddick has just been in the right place in these last two races. You know, he got the run that he needed. Daytona after some of the cars wrecked out. And Chase Elliott was by himself. And at Atlanta, for all those people talking about, oh, you know, he didn't have a right front fender, how, how did he do it? I thought Arrow was so important. Arrow is important. You gotta think when they were going down the back straightaway to 23 was in front of him. So that was breaking the air off the nose of the car until he moved up the racetrack. And then he gets popped from behind and gets the run that he needs to get the win. You know as well as I do if that race is five or 10 more laps, there's no way that 45 is going to stay up there with that fender like that. It just, yeah, the run time, right. And he was able to get up there and get the win. And that is not taking anything away from him or, or 2311. I mean they're putting their self in position to win these races and they've done okay.
Herman Schrader
Kenny. Well wait a minute.
Kenny Schrader
Harry Gant taught us a long time ago about just happen to be in the right place in the right time. Leaving at the end four in a row. Mr. September just happened to be leading at the end of the race.
Herman Schrader
Hey, it's Mark Cuban.

Switch to T Mobile and save up to 20% versus Verizon by getting built in benefits they leave out. Check the math@t mobile.com switch. And now T mobile is in US cellular stores. Savings versus comparable Verizon plans plus the cost of optional benefits. Plan features and taxes and fees vary. Savings with three plus lines include third line free via monthly bill credits. Credit stop if you cancel any lines. Qualifying credit required. I want. I want to say this. I saw some things that are usually not a topic. Two things I want to bring up, Kenny. These cup teams are so professional now. Okay, so Tyler Reddick WINS the Daytona 500, and he spends the next three days, you know, NASCAR, we know how this. We don't know, but they told us how it works. You win the Daytona 500, you wake up Monday morning, you know, they put your hands in the concrete and then off in the NASCAR jets. So Tyler Reddick goes all over America promoting the Daytona 500 win. And I think that's always, you know, a thought that there's a hangover after the Daytona 500. But they got these in the Sims now. The drivers are in the Sims. All you hear is Denny Hamlet and these great drivers now talking. Oh, I worked all week long in the sim. I just think it's impressive that you can, you know, and you and I can do it, but the fans, listen, might not know it.
Deets
You can.
Herman Schrader
You can travel all around America. But, buddy, when we get in that race car, it's like the closer you get to that racetrack, your. Your race face and your. Your brain clicks. Just talk about that for a minute. Like you. You know, I mean, hell, you could be out partying all night long, but. And you might have a headache, but you get in the race car and when just something clicks.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, but I think, you know, it's. It's not quite like back in the day, a little more. Not that people weren't then, but they're all. I mean, they just have to be. It's. Everything's so much finer. It's so much closer. You have to be on top of your game the way they are. And I mean, I watch it all time. I listen to it, and I'm glad I'm not doing it now. I mean, I wish. Yeah, I wish like hell I was doing it 40 years younger, you know, but they. They are. They are driving and working so hard at it now. It's just. It's just neat to. Neat to watch.
Herman Schrader
So to. I kind of set ourselves up. Okay, every. Everybody on the Dirty Mo Media podcast, you will not see this, but I'm going to explain this. I want to hear the guys talk about it. Okay? Mike Wheeler, he was. When I ran my last NASCAR Xfinity race at Iowa and I drove for Joe Gibbs. He was my crew chief. Now he's at 23:11. You know, you hear about this, what I'm getting ready to tell y', all, but you just don't see it. So now when these cup teams go to the racetrack, they have their own. Like the space shuttles taken off back at the shop. So back at the shop, they got this massive, you know, looks like Star wars and wheel wheels. Kenny, I don't know if you need to put your glasses on. I'm gonna show you right here, Mike Wheeler. Here we go, everybody. Look at this. Never give up. Congrats. Tyler Reddick, 23:11 at the Xfinity Speed Center. So there is the team right there, everybody. They're at the race shop. And look at that massive TV they have. And those are all engineers communicating with the crew chief at the racetrack. I mean, Kenny, you're right. It's way different than our day.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, but I think that part screwed up. What the hell good does that do when everybody has it?
Herman Schrader
True.
Kenny Schrader
Big. Big Bill years ago. Well, it was Bill Jr. That, you know, that I dealt with. But it's like, you know, you come in with a new widget, you know, you're a manufacturer, and you come in with this new widget that you want everybody to buy. So he puff on a cigarette and say, okay, this thing's got to do three things. For me to really think about making it legal. It's got to make for a better race. What the hell does that do? Does that make for a better race? If everybody's got it, it's got to be cost effective. There's nothing cost effective about sending this information back. And these guys watching this race.
Herman Schrader
If everybody's doing it.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, if everybody doing it. Well, nothing cost effective anyway. I just gotta. It's gotta make. Okay. Better race. Cost effective or be safer for the competitors. The grandstands. Safer. Safer. Competitive or cost so much? Used to be. You think about new stuff that we have in our sport. How many things do that? Very few of them. Not, Not. Not a lot of them. So the fact that we got all this people at the shop and that. I think it's. That's bull. It doesn't do anything.
Deets
It does.
Kenny Schrader
I mean, yeah, it makes everybody faster, but what did that accomplish? Everybody just goes faster and spends more money.
Deets
Yeah, they spend more money. That's what it cost.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. So what? Big problem in our sport. What's a big problem in our sport? How much money was how much money it cost? Right. Now it's cost so much money, they're going to spend it Regardless, if they couldn't do that, they'd spend it on something else.
Herman Schrader
Ten people, I've counted them. And I. I just found that fascinating. Like I said, we've always known it, but we're like, what's it look like? And Xfinity sponsors it, so they are communicating with that crew chief, and it is absolutely amazing. So that's kind of it. I got very lucky right there, guys. It worked out for me. That's why I was saying, here's the driver off promoting the sport all week long. He gets in the race car. And we've done in the past, but the technology is such now. I mean, our buddy, Justin Allgar. Yeah, he runs The Ex. The O'Reilly Auto Parts. Justin Allgar runs O'Reilly Auto Parts. But Justin tells us that he spends all week in the sim for Hendrick, for the cup team. And it is amazing to me that they. I mean, they do it in Formula one. They do it for airplanes. And these sims are so real now, it. You know, I always got sick in those damn things, you know, but don't.
Deets
Hey, don't forget, those cars did not have one lap on that racetrack or the race. And, yeah, they. And. And that's what Tyler Reddick said. And so you can go back to the. The COVID days and Kyle Busch and. And some of these older guys have said not having practice has affected them, and. And you can see it in the results. But I don't know if that's a good or bad thing or not. Maybe it makes the racing better, maybe it doesn't. But it. I mean, it just goes to show with this. The sim work and all this stuff going on back at the shop when the race is actually going on, you know, you don't even need to go out there and practice.
Kenny Schrader
I was always in the sim. The sim was one of my favorite things, like when you go to Missouri State Fair or new Coin or something, it was the Dodgem cars. But I thought that was like the sim. That's how I imagined it.
Herman Schrader
It's funny because there's a. Even though that was comedy right there, you hear? Well, okay. Well, you know, Tony Stewart told me, you know, when he had a bad injury, he went to that. Stefan Johansson's go kart track in Indy. I guess he broke a leg, whatever, early in his career.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, he.
Herman Schrader
He went to Stefan's every day because he wanted to get his laps more consistent, you know, and he was very. You know how Tony gets when he starts talking to you, when he gets real serious it's like, okay, I better be serious, too. So I guess everybody had their. Their own way of simming. And Tony said he got it to where he could run 100 laps on that go kart track and his time wouldn't fall off. And then he thought, okay, I'm ready now.
Kenny Schrader
Those are where you at, boy.
Herman Schrader
They will, won't they? Yeah. So we're going to move on, but let's wrap up the racing portion like this. Jeff Gluck on this Monday morning, over 7,000 people have said 94% of the race fans liked Atlanta. And. And I responded. The ones that didn't like it, there's only one way you didn't like it because you watched it. And so they. What do you think of that, guys? That's. That's a. That's one of the highest numbers I've seen in a long time.
Kenny Schrader
We're not going to make everybody happy, but we made damn, most of them happy.
Herman Schrader
94,
Deets
you know, and I. I'll tell you, I know Dale Jr. I think it was last year or two years ago, you know, said if he was going to buy a ticket to a race, it would be Atlanta. And that's the same way I am now. That is the only race that I watch that I'm like, man, I. I need to go watch that in person, you know, and it's not. You want everybody to go and watch them in person, but having been to a lot of the racetracks and stuff, that's the one where I'm like, I haven't been there since they reconfigured it. I just want to see cars going out there and doing what they're doing on a mile and a half racetrack. Because I never thought that was possible.
Herman Schrader
Okay, same subject, just a little different story. So when I was in Atlanta, guys, this. Okay, we all made fun of this. Hell yeah. You know, it's like, listen, I don't know if this is the way it goes, but you don't hire these marketing companies and give them a little bit of money. Nascar, you know, it was a press conference, not a press conference, but they announced that the media did. At the end of year, they hired a company to say, what. What phrase can we come up with to bring these fans back? And it was, hell, yeah, I get to Atlanta this week, and we're doing that trackside live show, and the fans are chanting, hell, yeah. It's like, okay, 1, 2, 3. Hell, yeah, it is. I mean, what is going on? Is it. I. I guess it makes them Think that we're back to the Earnhardt days and you know, we are back to the redneck, the glory days. Everybody's going, hell yeah. And it's this rally cry and not just on the track side live show. You know, I went and gave a little speech at their number one suite, you know, big suite and you know, I'm doing a little deal there. You say something and there's a fan. Dress nicely. You know, looks like somebody's got money. They're like, hell yeah, Kenny. Did you see that coming?
Kenny Schrader
No, but I also, I'm not that excited about it as you are. Yeah, it's neat. Now, how many people are your track side thing? I know there was a lot, but it's a new minute. Minute. Very, very small percentage of the people that are watching our sport. Those are your die hard deals. All we got to do is just see how, see how the TV ratings and stuff are doing and how ticket sales are doing and that'll tell us how, how stuff's working.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
And, and I Nothing changed from last November or from last January. Big. It's just just little, little things. And as we're just seeing what happens, we.
Herman Schrader
Good point. And when we look back the last two years, the Daytona 500 has got like, you know, 6 million. This year we were 7, 4, 7.4 million. We peaked 9.2 million. It's a couple million. That's a million more. That's a lot of people. So I think a lot of stuff through the winter drew a lot of tension. I think that Michael Jordan deal, I think that drew a lot of tension. So, you know, you're right, Kenny. Two words can't bring a sport back. But I think collectively that Michael Jordan. That was my coffee with Kenny on Monday morning. You know, has Michael Jordan brought NASCAR back to relativity? Oh, joy. Another day, another buzz delayed. Look on the bright side, you can finally catch up on podcasts. You don't mind running late. What's your deal? What's my deal? I saved at Metro with no activation fees. I got one line of 5G for just $25 a month.

This is a perfect segue if you don't say everything right. The fans love it. And Carson Hosvar just keeps on wrecking everybody. And the car owners, the crew chiefs, the fans, they love him. Wrecking people. He gives great sound bites. I love him, he's nice to me. But that is the talk in all of NASCAR right now is how much the fans love Carson Osovar.
Kenny Schrader
Kenny, you said, you said all the crew chiefs and the car owners love him.
Herman Schrader
Oh, 100 here. He's ran. He's ran every series for the last two weeks.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, the ones he's wrecked. I don't think loving now is he doing a phenomenal job. I mean he's got to get smoothed up a little bit, you know, unbelievable talent. He's going to be around for a long time and I sure got to believe he's going to win a lot of races. And if I had a race team, I want to hiring but if I had a race team and I didn't have him driving for me, I wouldn't want to race with him.
Deets
But what were you want? You also say that these rough edges that I like that he goes out there and wants to win these races at no cost. But I could tell you one thing and you tell me if I'm wrong. These rough edges that he's got are going to get smoothed out by the guys he's racing with on the racetrack. There was a reason people weren't drafting with him yesterday.
Kenny Schrader
When they get smoothed out, which will be sooner than later, he is going to really be stout. I mean he's stout now, but when he, when those edges get smoothed out, he's.
Herman Schrader
He's the guy every Kyle Petty who says it. Listen, Kyle Petty is way more controversial than me. Cal Petty has come out with big videos. You know, he is even okay. Dale Jr. Dale Jr. Says that is my dad, you know. You know, Kenny, one thing you taught me that I really like you said. You know, everybody says the old days were great and and you taught me. I don't remember the old days being so great, but if you have a good memory, everybody hated Dale Senior in the early days. Then when he started shining, shining up now. He was the greatest driver of all time. So.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, well. And I don't know. I can't tell you about 78, 79, 80. I don't know if Dale Senior was making as many. If he was quite in the middle of as many things as Carson is right now. Good point. Definitely. You see that the. The talent shine through just like you did with. With Senior. So, yeah, I mean, he's good for a sport. He just. Good. He just an unbelievable racer. Luckily, we don't look. Luckily we don't have 40 of them. Otherwise we wouldn't have anything left to finish the race.
Herman Schrader
Mark Martin said it best. You people have to have the ability to have a civil conversation without being so vicious, quote unquote. Mark Martin. So what we just did was had a civil conversation because he is the talk of NASCAR right now. He's literally wrecking and running into everybody. But he's the greatest driver we've seen. And when he gets cleaned up, he's going to be the next Dale Earnhardt. And it's. It's just a conversation.
Kenny Schrader
It's not like that. He's deliberately, deliberately going out there and wrecking everybody. True. He's going for that hole that. Damn it. I thought it was going to be there, and it just wasn't. This wasn't quite open enough when I got there, you know? So, yeah, he's. He's great.
Herman Schrader
Fast white wife Kim. My wife, she'd say, why do you dirt racers get so mad at each other? Don't. Don't you. It's dirt. Don't you slide around? I said, yeah, honey, we're supposed to know where we land. She goes, so why does everybody get so mad when you're running each other? I said, well, we're supposed to know where we slide to. And once Carson gets that figured out. But, wow, it is amazing. Me, I mean, the fan, they say, is his souvenir sales are through the roof. So we'll see. We'll see, everybody. But we did address Carson Hosvar, everybody. So mark that down. And what conclusion did we come to?
Kenny Schrader
We're going to talk about it a lot more.
Herman Schrader
Stay tuned. I love it. Okay, man, I think we did a good job right there. And with that, we're going to move on. I mean, I got the run down here, but this is only race two deets. Do you want to give the top 10 of the rundown from the Echo Park Speedway? I've had to learn how to say that.
Deets
Are we talking points or finishes well?
Herman Schrader
Give us Both.
Deets
All right, Give me a second. You guys talk amongst yourselves.
Kenny Schrader
Yep.
Herman Schrader
Yep. I like that. Okay, Kenny. Man, what a cup race it was.
Kenny Schrader
We didn't talk about truck race.
Herman Schrader
No, we're getting ready. We're getting ready to do the weekend now. We, we started about truck and then. Then we.
Kenny Schrader
We went everywhere, but we sidetracked a little bit.
Herman Schrader
That's okay. We usually don't do this everybody, but these races were too good, Kenny, for once. And maybe we don't do this every week, but the truck race was pretty rare. It's been a big drought for K. Busch. K. Busch wins the truck race. I'm going to set it up for you in. In a very interesting way. He is driving for spire race team
Kenny Schrader
and.
Herman Schrader
And the sponsor is your boss, Hendrick cars. And the driver is driving for Richard Childer. So we got Kyle Bush, who works for Richard Schillers. The sponsor is Rick Hendrick and the team aspire and he had to work for it. He had to work for it. He won. Your thoughts?
Kenny Schrader
It just looks to me like Chevrolet put together about as good an effort as they could.
Herman Schrader
Oh, I like that.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, well, it's all Chevrolet.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, that. It was. It was a hell of a race. And I think we're deep into the show right now and I think we'll leave it at that. Congratulations. And in the other tidbit information right there is I. Who.
Kenny Schrader
Who helped him win that race in his. Who was his teammate during the truck race?
Herman Schrader
You know, I don't know.
Kenny Schrader
Carson Hussler.
Herman Schrader
Oh, okay. I knew all this, but I forgot. Thank you. And, and let me give you the quote and then you respond it.
Kenny Schrader
Go ahead.
Herman Schrader
It sounded like Carson was being a smart to me. Carson says my, my water temperature was 255. And like Harry Gantt would say, Carson Hosbar said my. My old motor was just popping and sputtering, but I was doing what the team wanted me to do. They just, they were so happy. And I was so happy to see my childhood hero, Kyle Bush win. I'm like, okay, he's making fun of this now. And
Kenny Schrader
what I heard, I took it a little different. He didn't think he was because of issues. He didn't think he was stout enough to get it done. So he was going to do what was best for the team. And that was push Kyle.
Herman Schrader
And that right there is how rumors get started, everybody.
Kenny Schrader
I thought that's the way I took it.
Herman Schrader
That's awesome. That's a great lesson to all of us. I took it as him Being a smart. And. And you took it as. No, he's just telling the truth. Before we get into a little bit more,
Kenny Schrader
do you think for one second he would try to pass him if he could?
Herman Schrader
True.
Kenny Schrader
Really?
Herman Schrader
I. I think he was making fun of Dickerson, his boss wanting. Wanting Kyle to win is the way I took it, and you know that. But listen, we're just having fun. We're just.
Kenny Schrader
They ran first and second. That's all. That's all I know.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. Good stuff. I. I think from my viewpoint, if he wouldn't go, you know, my boss wanted me to, you know, push him to the win and. And. Yeah. Okay. All good. Okay.
Kenny Schrader
Deets.
Herman Schrader
You do have the rundown, the top 10 of the cup race and points.
Kenny Schrader
Yes.
Deets
Yes. So after the top 10, at Echo Park Speedway, Tyler Reddick took the win, followed by Chase Briscoe, Ross Castane, Carson Joseph are. And Daniel Suarez. Shane McGisbergen was six. Zane Smith, Bubba Wallace, Ryan Priest, and Ryan BLANEY. The top 10 and the top 10 in points. And this is pretty interesting. Tyler Radic obviously is the points leader. He's 85 points ahead of Or. Bubba Wallace's behind him with 85 points, followed by Chase Elliott, Carson Josevar, Zane Smith, Joey Logano, Daniel Suarez, Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, and Chris Butcher. Chris Buescher. But a couple of. Well, the most interesting thing to me is Kyle Larson's 21st in points, trailing the leader by 83 points. So we know that'll change, but kind of tells you how his season has started.
Herman Schrader
Kenny Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, and to me, a great, great story. This Zane Smith. Those three drivers are the only drivers to have top tens in the first two races. This. This Zane Smith, I like him, but Front Row Motorsports. Okay, I'm gonna go there because I just think it's a good for the show. It's funny. The teams that sued NASCAR are doing the best.
Deets
Let me get my flag pin out for that. I'll make sure and let them know that just in case.
Herman Schrader
Oh, my God.
Kenny Schrader
I just, you know, it's just. Hey, I came out of Daytona in 89, tied for the point league.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
And I've come out of their 40th before.
Herman Schrader
Yeah.
Kenny Schrader
And it just doesn't make much difference where you're at right now. Of course, this is two races, but we got a long way to go.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, let's. I like that conversation right there because we watched Denny Hamlin be involved in two wrecks, man. I mean, this. Nice. I mean, this. With Kids, gloves. We see something happen here lately that is like, wow, Kyle Larson turns left. I mean, it's like, whoa, what's he doing? You know, but he, He. He wrecks himself. We. You go back to the Xfinity race. We saw Sam Mayer, when the race was over, congratulate the guy that won the race and drive through the grass and just literally rip his nose off. We, we are seeing some mistakes done by these drivers. It's like, what did I just watch? And I'm, We've done it. But you're right, Kenny. It's early in the year. We see Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin both wrecking out. And. And that's a reminder, Kenny, do we. You know, we like everything, but I think I like these points because, you know, we don't hear, oh, he won the race. He punched his ticket. It's like, no, all you did was win the race. What do you think of that?
Kenny Schrader
Well, that's what we're doing. We're just trying to win the race every week. The points, no matter how they do it, will shake out the end of the year. Now, you're obviously going to shake out different this year because it's not just come that last race, but, you know, it's every week jobs just to win a race.
Herman Schrader
But one thing I do like, so, you know, they, they said in our day, in your day, in my day, they said, oh, the drivers are riding. They just want to get those valuable NASCAR points. Well, they kept the stage points. So like Zane Smith, he's further down in the points right there because they're awarding stage points. These guys are getting big. You cannot win the race and get 27 extra points, you know.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. It also pays more to win the race. Now, the point structure change there. I forget how much didn't they make it pay, like 15 points more or something to win the race once we get.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, something like that. I know that. Yes, it does. Yes. Sorry about that. I know exactly what you taught me. Yes.
Kenny Schrader
There's.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, there's more of a bonus to win the race. Yeah. Bigger bonus. So. So, okay. We talked about the truck race. What a deal that was. Kyle Busch. Let me go back to that for a minute. I did talk to Kyle Busch because he came out to the stage to do something different, not our show. And he said that it was fun. His Braxton. Now, it's hard to say and hard to believe, but Braxton doesn't know if his dad a winner. Kyle told me. I. Kenny says. Kenny. Kyle Busch talking to me. I'VE had to show Braxton pictures of me winning. So that, believe it or not, that was the first damn race that Braxton went. Oh, my God. My dad won a cup race. That is just timing and circumstances, ain't it?
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, yeah. When truck. Well, that's hard to believe. Can't be. Well, I mean, obviously if Kyle says it is, it is.
Herman Schrader
But let's put it this way, his kid might have been so young, he didn't. He might have been at home with his mom. He might have been in the bus. Well, when was the last cup race Kyle Busch won Deets? A couple, three years ago.
Deets
Yeah, I think it was two. The first year he was with Childress, he won three races.
Herman Schrader
Montana.
Deets
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he won two or three races.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
So what, what's, what messes me up is these kids are full blown race car drivers at 7 years old. And that's, you know, that, I mean, okay, 5, 10 years old, whatever, you're, you're not on pit road at that age. And so I just, that's what Kyle said. So he was very happy and made a big deal out of it. Had his kid in the truck, on the truck going to victory Lane.
Deets
So now I know his daughter probably can't remember cut wins because she's a good bit younger. So she might not remember the last time he won a cut race.
Kenny Schrader
Well, he didn't win cup race. He won truck race.
Deets
That's right. Something's better than nothing.
Herman Schrader
Okay, this solves it all for us boys right here. This is insane for me to say. I just said, how old is Braxton Bush? Here it is, he's 10. So if his dad hasn't won in two years, I mean, he'd be eight, I mean, eight, eight years old, you know, I mean, so. Yeah, so, and at that, if you're 8 years old, are you in? Are you sitting on the pits? Are you watching tv? So I believe Kyle.
Kenny Schrader
Hey, Carson. Josevar has sure taken the heat off Chastain, hadn't he? Now that's Finny Race. We didn't touch her.
Deets
Now he makes Chastain look like David Pearson right now.
Kenny Schrader
Olivia loves a challenge. It's why she lifts heavy weights and likes complicated recipes. But for booking her trip to Paris, Olivia chose the easy way. With Expedia, she bundled her flight with a hotel to save more. Of course, she still climbed all 674 steps to the top of the Eiffel Town.
Herman Schrader
You were made to take the easy route.
Kenny Schrader
We were made to easily package your trip. Expedia made to travel flight inclusive packages are ator protected.
Herman Schrader
Substance use disorder and addiction is so isolating. And so as a black woman in recovery, hope must be loud. It grows louder when you ask for help and you're vulnerable. It is the thread that lets you know that no matter what happens, you will be okay. When we learn the power of hope, recovery is possible, find out how@startwithhope.com brought to you by the National Council for Mental well Being, Shatterproof and the AD Council. Oh, great. Great segue, Ken. And here we go. So the O'Reilly Auto Parts Race. Man, I gotta remember to say that. Listen, we're just going to fast forward it this. Austin Hill qualifies 20th and it is unbelievable. They're coming into turn three. Coming to the checkered in. Austin Hill is leading again after, I mean, just, it's, it's awesome. Sheldon Creed pushes Ross Chastain into Austin Hill. Austin has the save of his life. Sheldon Creed rolls around the outside and finally wins his race after like I think 15, 15 second place finishes.
Kenny Schrader
Hey, did, did Ross Chastain run into Austin Hill or did Austin Hill cut down and run in to Ross Chastain? It doesn't make any difference. Austin has a big save and Sheldon Creed wins the race. They're both thinking different on what happened, but if it was an unbelievable finish and unbelievable save for, for Austin and Chastain was right up there again like he always is.
Herman Schrader
Yeah, and I like what you said there. That was. Ross Chastain is just a normal guy now. Everybody. That's wild. That's awesome.
Deets
And I do want to say because last week I was pretty tough on Austin Hill and why the fans don't like him after that race. He was pretty conciliatory as far as the, the Chastain deal went. He went and hugged Sheldon Creed in victory lane. We remember how their time at RCR ended it just in that one weekend. I saw a lot of maturity from him that you wouldn't have seen, I don't even think a year ago.
Kenny Schrader
Okay, so I'm, I'm driving. It's late, not late, but I mean, it's dark there. I was driving. I was just coming in Dallas and they're going to talk to Austin Hill and I said, oh, this will be good. And to your point, it was, it was a, it was a good interview. You know, he wasn't thrilled, but he, he definitely handled himself good.
Herman Schrader
Hell of a race. And for that, you know, listen, you and I love nascar and when things are good, we Talk about it. When things are bad, we talk about it. That is six straight RA. Listen, I get it, okay? I'm 62, everybody. I get it. Let's see where we're at halfway through the year. Well, we've been roughed up for 20 years, everybody. We got six straight races that have come to the checkered flag, and it's. And I just think it's worth talking about. So congratulations to nascar. Congratulations to the fans, and. Yeah, great. Great segment, everybody. Okay, we can do this. We got about eight minutes until we're punching one hour. Now we're going in the cellar, everybody. Are you want to go with us? Joe Gibbs. Joe Gibbs sues Chris Gaybart. Chris Gaybart worked for Joe Gibbs Racing, competition director. This is where I. Have fun with this. You got to say the new word allegedly, because if you say why Joe Gibbs assumed, it's got to go to court. So allegedly, Joe Gibbs says that Chris Gabart took all the information from the Joe Gibbs computer. In other words, he. He took a picture of it with his own cell phone. Joe Gibbs says, allegedly, that Chris Gaybart took all the chassis information over to Spire, his own computer. And now gay Bart is at Spire. So this is juice. I know none of us have a. An opinion, but here we go again. We can't get away. It just seems like all these important people are like people in the real world. Well, by God, we'll just go to court and have them settle it. And so I'll say this, Kenny Schrader, I'll throw you a softball instead of a fastball. Does it. Does this get settled before it goes to court?
Kenny Schrader
You know, you don't give. I don't care what you throw me. If I don't want to swing, I won't.
Herman Schrader
I like that.
Kenny Schrader
But you know what? I. I don't understand. I'm not the computer guy. You know, we used to have notebooks. Things were wrote down on paper. And crew chiefs have no setups. And they got. They're in their head. You know, it's not like. I mean, yes, you can take something off computer. You can copy something out of a notebook. You can't erase it from your head. So I don't know. Don't care. Not involved. We'll just see what happens.
Herman Schrader
Oh, I joked when I gave my opinion on. I joked that, you know what? Go home from now on and write all this stuff down, because as we learned with the NASCAR lawsuit, my God, they're about to. They're about to steal the thoughts out of our heads, everybody.
Deets
Hey, you. You've seen it on x before. Larry McReynolds has got his notebooks from 92 and 93. You don't think he took those to Richard Childress whenever he went to bed?
Herman Schrader
Right. So smart. He would.
Deets
I'll guarantee he did.
Herman Schrader
Man, isn't that something? You're exactly right. I'm really glad you brought that up. In the old days, if you were a crew chief and. And you made, you know, you were hiring Jake Elder. Hey, Jake, come on over. Nowadays when you go to work for somebody, it's so competitive that they. They hand you the company computer. Chris Gabehart. And they announced. They announced this. Let's say we don't want to know it. They were paying Chris Gabehart $25,000 a race in the Xfinity series. At that time, for Ty Gibbs, he was making $1 million a year.
Deets
Here. Here's the problem nowadays are these NDAs non disclosure agreements, which he signed when he worked for Joe Gibbs. I've signed NDAs before. I'll guarantee you. Larry McReynolds didn't sign an NDA with Robert Yates in 1993. Or, you know, whatever it was. So, I mean, there is a lot of minutia and tricky things involved whenever it comes to a legal standpoint.
Kenny Schrader
I never had to. I never had to sign an NDA because they knew that. Nobody wanted to know what I knew.
Herman Schrader
Oh, my God. Well, here's the problem. It's happening. It's big news, and we brought it up and we gave our opinions. So. All right, we got. We got dirt racing and jokes right on cue. Everybody, 57 minutes in. Kenny, do you want to take over the dirt racing?
Kenny Schrader
Well, not a lot of sprint cars this weekend. They were out in central Arizona. USC, ASCs, IT. I don't remember the group. It was as. I don't remember the initials, but it was like the 360s and Lucas Oil. Late models were at all tech. All tech. Great racing. Saturday's race. I don't remember who all won. Overton won one. I. I don't know who in the hell won. I watched them Saturday. Hudson won, right? Yeah, Hudson won great races. I don't think they had a yellow on Saturday. They were. They were really hustled it through. Maybe had they had one yellow, maybe, but great. The track was phenomenal all three nights. And World Outlaws were at Hendrick county, their first appearance there. And Nick Kaufman won Saturday night. Little Pierce won Friday night.
Herman Schrader
Great job. Good stuff.
Kenny Schrader
I didn't remember who won everything, but that's all.
Herman Schrader
Hey, we do our best. We love dirt racing.
Kenny Schrader
That was the first. That was probably the biggest show that had been at Henry county. And it looked like it was supportive. Good. Oh, and hunt front. I don't know what all they ran there, but they came back. They. They redid the Milton, Florida racetrack, put a lot of clay on it and stuff. It looked like they had a phenomenal crowd there and some. Some good races. So it was just. It was good.
Herman Schrader
Weekend shout out to hendry county, everybody, even me. I said, what are they doing going there? There's too much sand. Leave it up to Bobby Pierce to find that out. Bobby Pierce and a couple of them clean that outside off. And, boy, the races were through the roof. Through the roof.
Kenny Schrader
When you say they cleaned it out, they threw it all up into the grain stands.
Herman Schrader
Yeah. And then that means they're gonna have to go more on it.
Kenny Schrader
There's a lot of sand down there, though. It'll be okay.
Herman Schrader
Even the locals said. Even the locals thought they shouldn't come there because the mod just run right around the bottom and. And for the most part, the late models did, too. But you. You get a great driver like Bobby Pierce. I mean, he made, you know, both days. If Pierce doesn't go to the outside, we don't have those type of finishes. We just don't. I watched them both, so great job. Bobby Pierce on Friday and Nick Hoffman on Saturday and Henry. And of course, like you said, man, I really did like those races at all Tech. All tech was really good.
Deets
You know, that was the thing about Scott Bloomquist. I remember they ran some heavy temper races at. At Fayetteville and Lakeview. And both of those tracks were one groove and. And had a lot of sand in them and stuff like that. And I swear, nobody else would. I mean, you had guys that had been racing there for 10, 15 years. Bloomquist, he hopped up there on that outside. I mean, I remember people look said, you're. You're not. You can't do that here. So I love that these guys, you know, go to these racetracks and say, don't tell me I can't do it. I'm going to show you that I can.
Herman Schrader
Kenny Schrader was famous for that. He'd go into a track where the locals ran, and they're like, oh, no, you got to run here. Schrader. Kenny didn't know any better because the locals didn't tell him where.
Kenny Schrader
It don't make any difference. Just gotta go down, turn, you Gotta go where they're not.
Herman Schrader
Kenny, I'll never forget when you took me to the. The Mag Magnolia Black Ice, and Lucas Lee is leading that race and you and I are running second, third, and it was rough. It was. We shouldn't have raced because it rained. It was like 10 years ago. You jumped up to the outside and you showed me the way. And we both, you know when it was that USCS is sprint cars or whatever you call it. But we were, you know, teamed up with the sprint car series. You and I got by Lucas and nobody dared go up there, but you did. And I thought, well, I'll follow him. And we both run first and second at. At the Mag.
Kenny Schrader
We're going USCS racing this weekend at Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to that.
Herman Schrader
Good stuff. I love it that you're always finding somewhere to run.
Deets
Kenny. Kenny, real quick. Do you remember it was a Renegades of dirt race about 10 years ago at. At Friendship, and I was. I was calling it with speed 51 at the time. I. I've never in my life seen a racetrack that dusty. You could not see the front straight away from the Grand. I don't know how you guys got around it. That whole night we were watching it. We were like. You couldn't see your hand in front of your face. It was so dusty.
Herman Schrader
Boy, we. Kenny's run way more dirt than me. There's been times I've been afraid. I'm like, I can't see.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, there's a lot of times you don't want to see everything.
Herman Schrader
Okay, this is it, everybody. And what do we got for jokes?
Deets
All right, here we go. My dad told me a joke about boxing. I guess I missed the punchline.
Kenny Schrader
That's good.
Deets
Okay. I don't play soccer because I enjoy the sport. I'm just doing it for kicks. That's two. Okay. Okay. Where do basketball players go when they need a uniform? New Jersey.
Herman Schrader
Okay, that's. That's a good one.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah. Oh, yeah, I like that.
Deets
Yeah. Thanks.
Kenny Schrader
You can think about it. You know, if you really think about that for a while, you can maybe come up with that one.
Deets
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
Good stuff. Okay, I'll go first since you always go first. This week I am going to Austin, Texas, Friday night. I want to give a shout out for Friday night circuit of the America Austin, Texas, inside the racetrack. Kenny, you're going to like this. Marcus Smith and the boys are putting on inside the amphitheater, inside that big road course. They're doing a fandango and we know about that, but they're going to have, like, 4,500 people. But the first responders are going to be there for that horrible tragedy where the children lost their lives when they were in the, you know, summer camp and the flood came along and those children lost their lives. So Friday night, I'm gonna be there a couple days early. We're gonna do a show, interview all the NASCAR drivers. Saturday, I'm gonna roll down to the garage area and get a good look at these cars. Then Sunday is trackside live, and then I'll. I'll be back home Sunday evening. What are you gonna do?
Kenny Schrader
Going to Mississippi. Run that dirt car. Hattiesburg Speedway. Been there a couple. Been there. Yeah, I know. Once. Think I've been there twice. Once for sure. Neat little place. I do a good job down there. USCs, sprint car races. We're support class, so it'll be good.
Herman Schrader
Good stuff. Hey, I was at your shop last week. Joey put a new body on the car that you tipped over. It's amazing that you can tip over nowadays. And one time I tipped over and my hood went right back on the hood pins.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah.
Herman Schrader
So you're crying.
Kenny Schrader
He did not tip over. I laid on my side.
Deets
Oh.
Herman Schrader
See, I brought this up, everybody, because Kenny is in the math. And one of his great, greatest stories is when he told the. The people in the infield care center at Sonoma how many times he flipped. I love that story. Would you say one and a third or something like that?
Kenny Schrader
The guy asked me how many times I turned over. I think I told this before.
Herman Schrader
You have, but you can bring it up.
Kenny Schrader
Yeah, but one and a half or two and a half. He said, one and three quarter. He'd asked me what my phone number was, and I told him, you know, that when they give you the quick. Are you okay? Did you hit your head hard? Test, you know, like, what color car you driving and what number and stuff. They asked me. He said, how many times you turn over? And I said, I don't know, one and a half or two and a half. He said, one and three quarter. I said, I started on my tires and ended on my roof. What the hell is your home phone number?
