Kevin
Hey guys. What's going on?
Nick
What's up?
Host/Interviewer
Oh, I'm just sitting here reading Off Campus 3 the score by L. Kennedy.
Kevin
It's huge.
Nick
I'm reading the deal. Would you like to read a chapter?
Host/Interviewer
Yeah, let's read something.
Kevin
Which book you got? I got to pull my book out. There's a lot of pulling out in this book.
Nick
How do you know?
Host/Interviewer
You know it's a thing.
Nick
I'm just going to randomly open up a page. Here we are on 181.
Kevin
Which book you got a green book.
Nick
What's wrong? I ask. Nothing. He clears his Throat, then slides out of the booth and tugs up to me next to him. Dance with me to this. I'm baffled for a moment till I remember what a huge hard on he was for Leonard Skynyrd. Come what I think of it, I'm pretty sure this song was on the playlist he emailed me last week. Since when do you dance, G. Oh, you got it.
Paramount Plus Ad Voice
You got it.
Nick
Okay. Oh, this is getting good. Holy fuck. There's a note of awe in his voice as he joins me on the couch. His hard whoa. Bobs with each step he takes. I know they've grown. His kneels between my legs, reaching out to cup my heavy boob. They're fucking amazing. I shiver when his thumbs rub across my okay. Wow, is this getting hot and heavy.
Host/Interviewer
I think our guest is arriving here in a sec. It's very exciting. Kevin, you have big deal. Some background to our guest.
Kevin
A little background. I started this incredible show on Prime Video with my wife Danielle and we left to go to California that next morning early. We got through about four episodes. Cut to. I come back expecting to be able to pick right back up where we left off. And the entire series had been completed without me.
Host/Interviewer
So she. She series cheated on you.
Kevin
She series cheated on me.
Host/Interviewer
Our guest is here, guys.
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
Mika.
Caller/Listener
Welcome.
Glynne Washington
Hi.
Host/Interviewer
We're so happy to have you.
Nick
Hi, welcome, welcome.
Host/Interviewer
We were just telling a story. Kevin was telling a story about how his wife basically jumped him and finished series, the big hit series off Campus on Prime Video. Congratulations, by the way.
Kevin
Thank you.
Host/Interviewer
Can you finish your story, please?
Kevin
We were watching the show. It's incredible. Congratulations on the massive show and massive success. Got through about episode four, maybe five before and we left the next morning. Oh, I'm sorry. I left the next morning to go meet the guys to just recording and came back, was like, cool, let's pick up where we left off. And that series had been completed without me.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, no.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's like the number one rule of watching some. It's literally cheating. Like, that's crazy.
Kevin
It's crazy. It's unacceptable.
Host/Interviewer
Danielle, are still good though?
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
We're good.
Kevin
You know, I. I've let it. I've let it go. I let it go.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
It's also a crazy episode to like leave on now.
Kevin
I don't know what's happening. So I have to. I. No spoilers. But yes, I'm gonna have to finish. I'm very excited.
Host/Interviewer
Congrats on the show.
Apple College Ad Voice
Thank you.
Paramount Plus Ad Voice
That's.
Nick
It's amazing.
Host/Interviewer
Am I right? So you're. You're into season two now. You started filming already?
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
So.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
So into season two. I wrapped it one in the morning.
Nick
Oh, wow.
Host/Interviewer
Are you filming here in la?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
No, I just landed from Vancouver and came straight from the airport.
Nick
Oh, wow. Wow.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah, the cool. I just shot up there about two months ago.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Nick
Is that what they call it? The Couve?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I've never heard that before.
Host/Interviewer
But the cool people do.
Kevin
She's never heard that.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I've never heard that.
Host/Interviewer
Working longer than this isn't there?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
We did. Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah. It's a great town.
Caller/Listener
It's good.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Especially in the summer.
Host/Interviewer
I know.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Like, was it warm yet when you were.
Host/Interviewer
It was getting warmer, but it wasn't quite there yet.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh, so you're. You missed it.
Host/Interviewer
Season two's underway. You wrapped at 1am you came straight here. Thank you for coming.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Literally anytime.
Host/Interviewer
Bit of a trek. We were very excited to have you on the pod. The show is a massive success, obviously, and globally. You know, a cultural kind of phenomenon. When did you first hear about the show being developed into a series and when. When did you get the role? Give us the whole backstory.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I heard about it like from my team. I want to say like last February or something like that. And I wasn't. I was like. I knew of the books, but I didn't know what the whole thing was about. I didn't know what book talk was.
Host/Interviewer
A lot of hockey.
Redfin Ad Voice
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And this was also pre. He did rivalry. So I was like hockey, you know.
Host/Interviewer
Are you a hockey fan?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I am because, you know, I'm from Dallas, which actually has a big hockey shadow culture.
Host/Interviewer
I was born in Dallas.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
You were?
Host/Interviewer
I was, yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh my God.
Host/Interviewer
Live there for me. Moved back when? I don't know, in 28,008. Our parents went to school there together and then they moved back to actually work at that school.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
To smu?
Host/Interviewer
No, they were at a Bible college. Christ for the Nations.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Perfect.
Host/Interviewer
Do you know it?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Me too. No.
Host/Interviewer
Oh.
CarMax Ad Voice
Anyway.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
The Dallas Stars.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I don't know why hockey's big in Dallas, but it is so.
Glynne Washington
Yeah.
Kevin
So Vegas hot. I don't people. I think it's something to do when
Mika (Guest, Actress)
it's too hot and then like North Carolina did well this year or.
Paramount Plus Ad Voice
Carolina.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, South Carolina, the hurricane.
Host/Interviewer
Which feels like an inappropriate name to me.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's like insensitive.
Host/Interviewer
Really. Insensitive.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Here they come, your team. Your team reaches out, they tell you, hey, there's this project being developed to prime.
Caller/Listener
Uh huh.
Host/Interviewer
And. And was it always Ali that you were. You were after?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
No. So okay, well, it was always Ali that I was after. Originally, I auditioned for Hannah, and I was like, this just doesn't make sense to me. And they were like, no, no, no, we agree. And the casting team and the producers also agree, but they were only casting or they were only reading Hannah's and Garrett's at the time. So they were like, you just have to tape for this and trust us, they're going to see you for Ali afterwards. And I was like, all right. So I did it. And then they were right.
Nick
They were right.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
They were right.
Host/Interviewer
We love when the team's right.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I love when the team is right. And yeah, then I did. Did, like, callbacks for Ali, Kim read for Ali, and it all just, like, felt came together.
Kevin
Yeah. How long was the process from, like, actual audition to, like, beginning of production? Was it, like, a pretty long time or.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I want to say first audition was, like, early February, and then we started shooting end of May.
Kevin
That's pretty fast. That's great.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
What, you think that's fast?
Kevin
Oh, well, anything being made these days.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Okay. So, like, in my experience, retired from
Host/Interviewer
TV a while ago.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
It's always been like, I book something, and then two weeks later I have to go shoot. So there was this really crazy period of time where I was like, oh, that's fast.
Nick
Just a way to get.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I've just had it before where I book something in the next day.
Host/Interviewer
That's intense.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
What was that? What job was that?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
It was. It was an American Girl Doll movie when I was sick.
Kevin
We have a lot of them in this house.
Nick
Kevin. Kevin has that. The huge castle.
Kevin
I have, like, the multi family house
Nick
in the other room.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Do you have the. The horse? I had the American Girl Doll horse
Kevin
we did at one point. And then the hair gave my daughter, like, a breakout, like, rash. And so we. We got rid of the horse.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
What was she doing?
Nick
Just playing with it.
Caller/Listener
Okay.
Nick
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Okay, sure.
Nick
You. Speaking of horses, you ride horses, right?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I do. I do ride horses.
Host/Interviewer
Did you ride competitively?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
You could say that.
Nick
Just. Does that mean you just say that, meaning, like, you did that because just. You can say you would ride faster
Kevin
than your friends, Justin. I can say that.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
No, like. Like this. Like the barn I would ride at would, like, host events. Shows. Yeah. And I would show there, but I never, like, traveled. I was supposed to travel one time for a show, and then my horse went lame and had a problem. And so then I was riding, like, one of the other horse, like, one of my trainer sources, and he was very different. And I, like, didn't fall off of him. No, I did fall off of him.
Kevin
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
It's frightening.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
It was frightening. And I hurt myself so I couldn't do it.
Nick
Nick also fell off a horse and hurt himself.
Host/Interviewer
I fallen off twice.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Tell me both stories.
Host/Interviewer
They're not that exciting. Both were on a set and basically there was a camera that moved into mean.
Nick
They're not excited. This is crazy.
Host/Interviewer
All right, let's have a story. If you want me to on a production. I can't say which one because my attorneys told me not to. They didn't actually.
Caller/Listener
I was.
Host/Interviewer
Ok, sure it was.
Nick
You didn't say it.
Host/Interviewer
Bleep it out.
Nick
Your lawyers didn't tell me not to say it.
CarMax Ad Voice
That's true.
Nick
You're right.
Host/Interviewer
Anyway, I'm on the set of this movie and the camera came into in the way of the horse's eyeline and it got spooked out and it reared up and threw me off. And I had these. These boots on that were. That were not riding boots, but it was, you know, for the character. And they're really thick. So like it basically got stuck in the Versace boots dragged me. Versace boots. It dragged me for like maybe 10 yards.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's crazy.
Host/Interviewer
It was intense and I was like, I don't really want to do this anymore.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I don't want to happen two times.
Host/Interviewer
I don't want to be the other one was a different thing and it just reared up and I. It was. I was riding the horse without a saddle for the scene and then it. I landed on the kind of spine of the horse. Same movie, different movie. Let's get off this horse talk.
Kevin
Let's get off the horse, guys.

Mika (Guest, Actress)
Philosophy.

Wow.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Kevin
That's cool.
Host/Interviewer
Amazing.
Nick
That comes in handy I'm sure.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I get very philosophical.
Host/Interviewer
Do you when you're at help with
Kevin
your character development like.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
But you know what I think it does. You know. Definitely. I think I've told myself that it does. But that might be I think it would just me validate.
Kevin
You can break apart someone's you Know, thinking and character and goals and ideas.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, let's go with that, I guess.
Kevin
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I went to school originally for political science, and that lasted truly, like, 20 minutes. Then I was like, I can't do this anymore. And then I tried to get into the film school, but I was shooting a movie at the time when, like, all the exams and stuff were happening, and I was trying to get extensions and stuff, and they were like, no. I was like, okay, but here's, like, I'm actually doing what we're trying to do.
Host/Interviewer
They were like, I'm literally doing the thing.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I was like, I'm literally doing the thing that I'm, like, asking you to help me with. They didn't like it, so I was like, fine.
Host/Interviewer
And it's led you to this moment now where you have this massive hit.
Glynne Washington
How.
Host/Interviewer
Like, it's not the right way to frame the question to say, how does it feel? But going from that phone call in February, you're on set by maybe. Did you think the first week or two while you're on set, oh, this is gonna be something that really connects and people are gonna love these characters and fall in love with the world? Or was it just a really fun job? It's always amazing to have a job, to have a gig to be doing, but to have one that becomes something that is blown up in the way it has.
Apple College Ad Voice
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I think we always knew, just based on how much attention was being given to it already online, we always knew that it was going to be somewhat successful. We had literally no idea that it would become what it's become, and we were just having fun. Last year. All of us are the best of friends, and we were just hanging out in Vancouver for five months and having a great time and kind of having our own little college experience, and it was just great. And then, yeah, we went and did press, and we were just like, who knows? Like, who knows? This is gonna be so fun. Like, maybe we'll go back and. And. Yeah, and it's just been, like, so crazy. I feel like I haven't taken a breath.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah, I'm sure it's something, like approaching 40 million views in. In the first, like, 12 days, which is.
Nick
That's completely insane.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Like, I don't even know what that means.
Kevin
Huge.
Host/Interviewer
A lot.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Kevin
Yeah, that's what I've heard.
Host/Interviewer
Just back to the castmates.
Caller/Listener
You. You.
Host/Interviewer
You guys are genuinely close.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
We're genuinely so close.
Host/Interviewer
What's the. What's the group chat called? If you can say if it's allowed to Be said on the. On the pod.
Kevin
It's a great question.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
One of them is off campus Brazil,
Host/Interviewer
I think off campus Brazil.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Off campus Brazil.
Host/Interviewer
Okay. Love it. Shout out Brazil.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Shout out Brazil.
Nick
Shout out Brazil.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And then the boys have their own group chat called Dean's Bitches.
Host/Interviewer
Nice.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That Steven named. Steven named. That makes sense. And then Ella and Josh and I have the girls group chat. It's called the Girls.
Kevin
So the Brazil one, though, is that for when you guys were there doing press, or was it just because.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Was just because Brazil has always been, like, really into it.
Host/Interviewer
Into the show.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Into the show.
Kevin
Yeah, yeah, Come to Brazil. As they say, come to Brazil.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And then we went to Brazil, and then all of our DMs were like, no, no, no, no, come to Rio. Because we went to Sao Paulo. And I was like, okay, we can't get specific.
Nick
Yep.
Host/Interviewer
I actually think we were. We were in Sao Paulo around the same time. We were just there on tour, and I think we. We nearly crossed paths with the off campus.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I think we did, like, ships in the night.
Host/Interviewer
Ships in the night. And it's an incredibly passionate fan base.
Caller/Listener
It is.
Host/Interviewer
It would make sense that. That they would gravitate. Gravitate towards something like this, where there's a great romantic angle. There's obviously a lot of physical and emotional things happening as well. I assume you've watched the whole series or have you? Have you not?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh, yeah, I've seen it.
Host/Interviewer
I am. I'm working through it right now. I'm very excited. We just completed the first couple. Some steamy scenes in the show.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Sure.
Host/Interviewer
Obviously. But it seems like, given the nature of the fact that you guys are all friendly, it's a good environment on set, that it's, like, safe, and everyone feels like they can just have fun and stay in the moment and be in the character.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah. And also, like, I don't know if you've worked with intimacy coordinators lately.
Host/Interviewer
Very important.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
But they're very, like. It's a whole thing. There's, like, writers and contracts and stuff. And. And they've been really great at, like, choreographing the fuck out of it. It's been really awesome. And they've just made us so comfortable. And, yeah, honestly, like, all of our intimacy stuff last season didn't really start happening until about halfway through. And so we had the chance to, like, build the rapport and the friendship and the trust and whatnot. And so it's never felt strange.
Host/Interviewer
That's great to hear at all. We love intimacy coordinators.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
We do shout out.
Host/Interviewer
Thank you for that. But season two is gonna focus more on Ally and Dean's relationship. Is that right?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's right, yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Okay. Yeah, it's very exciting.
Kevin
The fans are very excited about this.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I'm very excited about this.
Host/Interviewer
Don't give us any insight.
Kevin
You're probably not allowed, and that's okay.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I'm not allowed. My lawyer told me I'm not allowed to say, great.
Nick
Read these, Nick.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Read the book.
Nick
Read the book.
Host/Interviewer
It's built off of the book and kind of made in season.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Same as, like, season one. You know, season one didn't, like, exactly
Host/Interviewer
follow the books exactly.
Glynne Washington
So.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, well, there's like some new stuff, some fun. Some fun new little things that we're adding in.
Host/Interviewer
I'm sure as each of you have. Have sort of really taken on these characters and gotten to know them even better over the course of the first season and the second. The writers are even crafting it more specifically to the way in which you're portraying these characters. And that's a fun thing to see kind of come to life as well.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah. And also, like, to us as the actors too, a lot of us are, like, very similar to our characters in specific ways. And it's been really cool to see how they write our voices into the show and like our. Our skills and like our things as people, which is really cool. Like, you know, getting to do a second season of a show and have the writers really know you is like, totally so unique.
Nick
How do you feel like your character matches your personal. Your personality.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
My personality. I've been saying Ally is just me when I've like, had the best day ever and maybe like five Red Bulls. But like, generally we're very similar. Pure, just like energy, joy. It's like Christmas morning every day.
Host/Interviewer
Have you ever had five Red Bulls?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I did. Oh, my God. Two days ago on set, I like, in the span of six hours, had a coffee, a cold brew, and two of like the tall boy Red Bulls and. And a Sudafed.
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
Wow.
Nick
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Because the allergies were getting me and I literally was like, I think I'm going to die.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Kevin
That sounds like that's a whole journey you just went on.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah. And that was like 2pm wow.
Kevin
Nice.
Host/Interviewer
Were you, like, jet lagging or something? Is that why you had to.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
It was just the allergies and it was just like an early day. We also did that thing where, like, we started the week with early days and we ended the week with like 11:00am pickups. Yeah.
Kevin
Oh, yeah.
Glynne Washington
You know What?

Nick
It's the one that. Right on the water that we love.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, well, we're kind of obsessed with Cactus Club.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Nick
Isn't there, like a famous Drake drink there?

Mika (Guest, Actress)
Let's see what happens.
Nick
Get the party started.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Just got off a flight. Perfect time.
Host/Interviewer
So you mentioned that you're. You're similar to your character Ali in some ways.
Kevin
Is.
Host/Interviewer
Is there a, like, a person in your life who. Who sort of embodies some of the characteristics that Hannah has where you have that same kind of connection?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Well, okay, so. So when I was doing the Hannah Ali work, I weirdly was. I'm like the Hannah to one of my best friends, Kiara. She's just, like, so full of life and has so much energy and has this, like, insane balance of being, like, the hype man and also the person that you want to talk to when you're going through something. So that, like, I'm the Hannah in most of my friendships and relationships.
Host/Interviewer
Love that.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Have you known Chiara for a long time?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I've known Kiara since I moved here.
Host/Interviewer
Since we moved to la.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Since I moved to la. Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Was it tough moving from Dallas and having that friend group there?
Nick
I'm sure.
Host/Interviewer
And your childhood and teens and then getting to LA and sort of like kind of starting over, essentially. New new career path and friends.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And I had just finished shooting a kid show also in the Couve and American Girl Doll. No, it was called Project MC Squared.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, nice.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And we did two seasons, three seasons, actually. A lot of those girls lived in la. And so when I moved here and then, like, a lot of the people that, like, worked on the. On the show also lived here and they became very familial and kind of like took me in. Like, I would stay with them, stay at their homes when I was, like, homesick and scared. So, no, it really wasn't a huge adjustment. And I had already been flying back and forth between here and Dallas so much as a child that it was like, really not a big deal at all.
Host/Interviewer
That's so nice.
Kevin
It's great.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
It can be a wild thing to not only move states, but then to be jumping into a new career path and to have that balance from those folks that you worked up with in Vancouver. So nice. You live in LA now or Vancouver. I guess for a lot of the year.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I don't actually live anywhere right now.
Host/Interviewer
That's such an amazing thing.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Isn't that awesome?
Kevin
Is there a place that you would be like cool now that I don't have to be anywhere you want to be for like some time other than the Couve.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I would love to move to London.
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
Rio.
Host/Interviewer
London.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I would love to move to Rio.
Kevin
Rio.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Shout out Brazil.
Host/Interviewer
Shout out Brazil in London.
Nick
You said London.
Glynne Washington
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I would love to move to London or New York, which seems more feasible.
Host/Interviewer
Both great towns. I mean, what do you love about London?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
What don't I love about London? I love that you're close to every other European city. You're close to everything and I love that it feels like New York in places, but also not.
Nick
It does. And also right this time of year. I mean it's 9:44 in London right now. PM and the sun is still up or it's just going down easy.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
But that means in the winter it's like terrible.
Nick
The winter's.
Kevin
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Winters are kind of depressing, kind of tough.
Nick
January, this January was tough. It was about three weeks of rain.
Host/Interviewer
It happens.
Arm and Hammer Ad Voice
It's fine.
Nick
That's why we get all those amazing Brit rock bands. Because they can be sad and they write good songs.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Sad and hidden away or is that a 19 year old Ella thing?
Nick
What is spoons?
Caller/Listener
Oh my God.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Witherspoons.
Nick
Oh, Witherspoons.
Kevin
Yeah.
Nick
Oh yeah.
Host/Interviewer
That is. What is that?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
It's like the. The less nice Cactus Club of.
Kevin
It's like a waffle house of. Remember we went through this whole thing when we did all that press there. They were talking about it.
Host/Interviewer
I remember.
Nick
Right.
Kevin
It's like a diner. But it's like a.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
It's good, but it's also kind of a bar.
Nick
Yeah, it's kind of like a bar.
Kevin
But everything in London is a bar.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
But spoons does like. Like five pound.
Nick
Oh yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Like these nasty like drinks. I don't know how would you just. It's like flavored.
Nick
It's. It's like Red Bull and Sudafed and then you like.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Like legit and it's like. And they can give it to you in a little pitcher. It's. It's disgusting, but it's amazing.
Host/Interviewer
Sounds great.
Nick
Disgusting and fun at the same time.
Host/Interviewer
We're there.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Exactly.
Host/Interviewer
Something rainy day is a little less sad. So obviously with the success of a show like this, there's a lot of interest in personal life and at various stages in our life and career, we've kind of gone through that. And it's an interesting thing to navigate. How's it been last couple weeks, months of navigating? That aspect of the amazing part of getting to do what we all do is that you have these amazing opportunities, but it does come with some extra interest in these areas of your life. How's that been to navigate?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I think for all of us, it's just been really interesting. It's something that, like, you think you understand, but you don't until you're experiencing it and really understanding that, like, people will find you on the street or, like, find your parents Facebook pages or, like, it's been strange, but I mean, Amazon's been really supportive and helpful.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
So it's.
Host/Interviewer
We love Amazon.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah. We shout out Amazon and.
Host/Interviewer
And your friend group and stuff. Kiara being one of them.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Sure.
Host/Interviewer
And. And also the cast members you're all going through at the same time. Kind of.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And that's what I'm so grateful for. I can't imagine being in this situation without like six other people that are going through the exact same thing.
Kevin
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
You know what I mean? Like that everybody.
Nick
And three group texts.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah. That we can just cycle through when someone's being annoying.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, it's true. I can't do that.
Nick
We have that within our family.
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
Yeah.
Nick
There's just texting. Just texting.
Kevin
You guys haven't.
Nick
Yeah, that's just me texting Nick about you. Or me. Me texting Kevin about Nick.
Host/Interviewer
You know, we do this with all the guests. We have this little eight ball of questions that have nothing to do with anything necessarily. Just kind of random. We'd love for you to pick one or two if you'd like.
Nick
Fire away.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Let's see.
Nick
Fire away, Far away.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
What's your favorite nickname you've been given? I don't know so far.
Host/Interviewer
It's an odd nickname.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, that's my favorite.
Nick
Hi.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
My mom calls me. I don't know.
Nick
Hey. I don't know. Get over here.
Kevin
It's a great nickname.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I don't really. I mean, my name is a nickname. My real name is Michaela.
Nick
Michaela.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh, so M is my favorite nickname I've been.
Host/Interviewer
That's a great nickname.
Nick
Ah, easy.
Kevin
There you go.
Host/Interviewer
Technically, my real name is Nicholas.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Right. How'd they get to Nick.
Host/Interviewer
It's a shortcut. My daughter's 4 and, and she's, it's really confusing to her why. She's like, why are you called Nick if your name is Nicholas? And trying to explain to a four year old that the concept of a Nick somehow really difficult. I just said, they just.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Literal nickname.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah, they just wanted to make it shorter. She goes, but why? I don't know. That's what it is.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's so cute.
Nick
I was in the fourth grade. The, the coolest kid in school came up. We just, we moved from Texas to New Jersey. And the cool kid in school, I thought he was the cool kid in school came up to me and said, what's your name? I said, Joe. He's like, oh no, there's too many Joes. Okay. He's like, we're gonna have to change that. And I was like, okay. He's like, what's your last name? It's like, Jonas. He's like, joe Jonas. JJ Jonas. JJ Jonas. That's your name. And not until like months later did I believe a teacher called our parents, said, hey, I would love to talk about, talk about jj. And they're like, who is that? Like your son jj. Like, we don't have a JJ in this house.
Host/Interviewer
Like, do you go by JJ in school?
Nick
I'm like, yeah, anyway, carry on, please.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's crazy. Also, that's just, that's more J's.
Nick
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Which I think is counterintuitive. That doesn't make any sense.
Nick
And then the kid. Then there's the bully that pushed me in the locker and he said, J.J. jonas, and they'd throw me into the locker.

Glynne Washington
Pick a card, any card. Snap Judgment from kqed New episodes every Thursday. Wherever you get your podcast, would you like another?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, I'll take another one. My question is when's the last time you borrowed something from your neighbor? Makes me so sad. I just moved out of LA like a month, two ago. I don't know. Whenever I went to Vancouver and my neighbor Mimi, Mimi and Mark, they were like my grandparents. They were amazing. And she is Persian and she would just make her and her entire family would just like make me food.
Kevin
Oh that's awesome.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And deliver it to me all the time. Because I'd walk by and I'd smell it cooking and I'd be like, Mimi, that smells really good. And then her sister would come over with like a plate.
Host/Interviewer
I'd walk by and be like, hey, I'm not saying. But if, if you wanted to.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I was like, what are you cooking?
Host/Interviewer
What does that smell? Love that.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I miss her so much.
Host/Interviewer
Shout out. With a lot of shout outs today.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Shout out. Mimi. Shout out.
Host/Interviewer
Mark, we have some voicemails from some people that have some questions for you.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh my God.
Caller/Listener
Hi, this is Bailey and I am from Georgia. So I need a little bit of advice. Dating this guy for like 3 years and some stuff went down. I didn't have a lot of self respect for like the last year of our relationship and I was putting up with stuff that I really shouldn't have. And so Now I'm about 5 weeks no contact and I want to pull my hair out. So I need a little bit of advice of how to get over somebody. This is my first and only relationship, especially like long term. So. Yeah. Thanks, guys.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, wow. These questions are just, you know, life advice because we're definitely qualified to.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
So qualified.
Kevin
This kind of goes in line.
Nick
This kind of goes in our character.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Exactly. This is, this is Ali's story.
Kevin
This is Ali's story.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Well, you know, Ali was a serial breaker of no contact until she wasn't.
Nick
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And then look at what happened. So I think in following Ally's advice that I'm sure she would give, it would be don't, don't break the no contact.
Kevin
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And eventually you'll be fine.
Host/Interviewer
Star's good advice.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's what I'd say.
Host/Interviewer
That's what block you and Ally or.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's what I like. Sorry, I'm still on the character.
Redfin Ad Voice
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I just.
Host/Interviewer
Ralph come out of it.
Kevin
She's a method.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's what Ali would say. Yeah, I think.
Nick
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Okay, there you have it.
Kevin
I think that's great.
Nick
Good advice. Fantastic.
Host/Interviewer
Now we have one from an anonymous caller.
Caller/Listener
What does it really mean if a guy doesn't make the first move but like says he likes you but doesn't touch you or tell you you're pretty that much? Does he really like you or is that a red flag? Thank you, boys.
Host/Interviewer
I feel like I'm qualified to answer this because my wife and I had our, our, our first kind of meeting back.
Kevin
Meeting.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Meeting.
Kevin
They sat around a board first.
Host/Interviewer
Okay, listen, we had our first time that we hung out. It was a date. It was just like, we met up and had a drink and just kind of met and went on a date pre.
Kevin
The date I was on.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah. This is the first time we met.
Kevin
Okay.
Host/Interviewer
Not a date. Okay.
Nick
Was I.
Host/Interviewer
Were you on our first official date as a pressure.
Caller/Listener
Okay.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Okay.
Host/Interviewer
Actually, let's go to chaperone. That's good. Anyway, the night ended, and I, you know, bring her back home and we have a drink there to finish.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And as you do after a meeting.
Host/Interviewer
After a meeting, yeah. And then I. I gave her a hug at the end of the night and said it was great. This was a really nice night. Just give her a hug. There's no kiss. There's nothing.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Okay.
Host/Interviewer
And she was, you know, a year later when we actually started dating, then very quickly got engaged and then married. She's like, what was that about? Like, why didn't you make. Exactly.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Exactly.
Host/Interviewer
And I was like, well, I. I just. I wanted it to be the right moment for that.
Nick
I wanted to keep things professional.
Kevin
I didn't have a chaperone.
Host/Interviewer
So I think, in summary, everybody. It's possible that he's just waiting for the right moment, wants to make sure that everybody's, like, on board with the thing and that it. That we're all feeling the same way. Right.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
He's just being a perfect gentleman.
Host/Interviewer
Perfect gentleman. Yes. It also, there was another factor where my now wife's mother was asleep in the other room. I kind of felt like it's not the time. It's not the time. She was just out in the living room watching SVU and now she's in bed. It's kind of. Or is it perfect time?
Nick
I'm looking at my sound effects.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh, you're in charge of the sound effects?
Kevin
Yeah, he's got a whole thing.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh, God.
Host/Interviewer
So that's my hot take there, but I. I could be wrong.
Kevin
What if he's just nervous?
Host/Interviewer
He could be nervous or he could think it's a professional setting, or he's
Mika (Guest, Actress)
just being strictly professional.
Nick
Yeah.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Is it a meeting or a date
Host/Interviewer
that you're going to go back once we've had time to review the.
Nick
I'm your mailman.
Host/Interviewer
All right, we have one more voicemail. This one's from Morgan.
Caller/Listener
Hello, my name is Morgan, and I am moving in with my boyfriend for the first time ever. What is one piece of advice that you have for living with a guy? Thank you.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Gosh. Follow the room. It depends on.
Nick
Get the farts out of the way quick.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, everybody.
Nick
Everybody walk in the door.
Host/Interviewer
Let one loose.
Nick
Get it over with.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, that's your advice About.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
About her?
Redfin Ad Voice
For her?
Nick
Both. Both of them should just be like, all right, on the count of three, we're going to.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
We're going to break this seal.
Nick
We're going to fiber up, and we're going to sit in the room until
Mika (Guest, Actress)
one of us make it happen.
Nick
Rips 1. And then we're looking at each other like, all right, now we can live together. No more sneaking around trying to hide your farts.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
No more.
Host/Interviewer
No more.
Nick
Exactly.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I don't know. Is it not the same as just living with a regular roommate?
Host/Interviewer
I think the only thing would be the temperature of the rooms.
Nick
Because you guys like the rooms to be discussed.
Host/Interviewer
Well, I feel like a dialogue beforehand
Mika (Guest, Actress)
just to set temperature of the room.
Nick
Nick likes sleep in what you call the frozen Antarctica. Yes.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Same us or you?
Nick
Nick does.
Host/Interviewer
I do.
Kevin
Nick.
Nick
Nick Jonas likes to sleep in Antarctica, which means he. He likes a.
Pets Best Insurance Ad Voice
Cool.
Host/Interviewer
Maybe relationships are about compromise. We can come. We could. The temperature can. You can meet in the middle. If that. If the person you're moving in with, Morgan, likes it warm in the room and you like it cold, then you
Mika (Guest, Actress)
guys meet at a good, like, 74.
Kevin
Yeah, 74 is way too hot.
Host/Interviewer
Diabolical, but yeah, essentially. And then also 74.
Kevin
Sleeping as hell.
Host/Interviewer
Well, say the person likes to sleep at 78 and you're a 70 person. 74 would.
Nick
Would be correct. It's not gonna work.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
What if there's a shoes off in the house differential? Has anyone experienced that before?
Host/Interviewer
Or cats and dog situation.
Nick
I'm shoes off hidden here. In here. I'm shoes off in at this place.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
That's awesome.
Nick
Thank you.
Host/Interviewer
What's your take on that?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I'm shoes off.
Host/Interviewer
Shoes off at the door.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
At the door?
Host/Interviewer
Yeah, the door.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I'm a house slippers wearer, though. I don't like to be barefoot.
Kevin
I agree with a slipper.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I'll be barefoot outside.
Host/Interviewer
That makes sense.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Not in the house.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah, I feel that. I mean, I could go either way, but I agree. I think shoes off at the door is a good policy.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Okay.
Nick
Yep.
Kevin
You know, they're gonna be a good friend if they show up for the first time. Like, is this shoes on shoes?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Can I take my.
Kevin
Do you want they ask.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
They know how when someone comes to your house and they put their shoes on your couch.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, that's not. We're not doing that.
Kevin
Those people are no longer friends.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Literally.
Nick
Yeah.
Host/Interviewer
Yeah. That's a no go. Sorry. Now that we're on the topic of this thing, that the coaster. Non Coaster.
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
How do you.
Host/Interviewer
How do you offer a coaster? Politely, as a host. This is so sorry, Morgan, you're. We all think you should have a conversation and good luck to you.
Caller/Listener
Yeah,
Mika (Guest, Actress)
we've moved on.
Nick
Fart it out.
Host/Interviewer
Serious question for the class here. First of all, coaster, non coaster people, is your prerogative. But if you are, say you have a tip.
Nick
How do you.
Host/Interviewer
With a guest, politely just offer it up without seeming rude, where you're just sliding the. Cause that's like an SNL character, the coaster guy who slides. You know, it's invasive.
Nick
Sure.
Host/Interviewer
But how do you do it gracefully?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I think you just pick up the coaster and you go, oh, here you go.
Nick
Yeah, you got to make it obvious. Like, you got to tell them another one.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh, you're like, oh, I know you were looking for this. So here.
Host/Interviewer
Oh, that's good.
Caller/Listener
I love that.
Kevin
Oh, you might have forgotten.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, like, oh, this is where the coaster is.
Nick
Here a good idea. Buy them a coaster for Christmas.
Host/Interviewer
Buy them Christmas coaster. Christmas coaster. That's a good idea, too.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
What other problems do you need solved?
Mika's Friend/Interviewer
I think we.
Host/Interviewer
I think we covered a lot of ground today. Um, and I'm, you know, I'm shocked that. That we got to coasters. Honestly, I didn't expect us to get there, but it's exactly.
Nick
I expected it.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Yeah, I knew that was coming.
Host/Interviewer
Double Red Bull to Sudafed, Segue to Coaster.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
And the Red Bull, like, looming over the room now it is.
Host/Interviewer
Before we wrap up, question for you. You go back to set today or tomorrow?
Mika (Guest, Actress)
No. Could you imagine?
Host/Interviewer
Yeah, I. I mean, could you imagine? Enjoy la.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
I'm going to. The weather is really good here.
Host/Interviewer
It is very nice at the moment. Hope you enjoy your time back here in la.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Thanks.
Host/Interviewer
And maybe you can drop by and grab a meal from Mimi and Mark.
Mika (Guest, Actress)
Oh, my God. I actually am going to go visit.
Nick
Oh, you should. Next stop.
Host/Interviewer
Congratulations on all the success of the show.
Kevin
Huge.
Host/Interviewer
And I hope season two goes incredibly well and everyone go watch off campus on. Not that you probably already have.
Kevin
Watch it for the second time because I have to finish it and make Danielle watch it again. So here we go.
Host/Interviewer
Thanks for joining us, Mika.
Nick
Yeah, thank you so much.
Kevin
Thank you so much.
