I heard about it like from my team. I want to say like last February or something like that. And I wasn't. I was like. I knew of the books, but I didn't know what the whole thing was about. I didn't know what book talk was.

A lot of hockey.

No. So okay, well, it was always Ali that I was after. Originally, I auditioned for Hannah, and I was like, this just doesn't make sense to me. And they were like, no, no, no, we agree. And the casting team and the producers also agree, but they were only casting or they were only reading Hannah's and Garrett's at the time. So they were like, you just have to tape for this and trust us, they're going to see you for Ali afterwards. And I was like, all right. So I did it. And then they were right.

I love when the team is right. And yeah, then I did. Did, like, callbacks for Ali, Kim read for Ali, and it all just, like, felt came together.

Yeah. How long was the process from, like, actual audition to, like, beginning of production? Was it, like, a pretty long time or.

I want to say first audition was, like, early February, and then we started shooting end of May.

That's pretty fast. That's great.

Oh, well, anything being made these days.

Okay. So, like, in my experience, retired from

TV a while ago.

It's always been like, I book something, and then two weeks later I have to go shoot. So there was this really crazy period of time where I was like, oh, that's fast.

Just a way to get.

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

I've just had it before where I book something in the next day.

That's intense.

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

Yeah.

[Host/Interviewer]

What was that? What job was that?

It was. It was an American Girl Doll movie when I was sick.

[Kevin]

We have a lot of them in this house.

Kevin. Kevin has that. The huge castle.

I have, like, the multi family house

Do you have the. The horse? I had the American Girl Doll horse

we did at one point. And then the hair gave my daughter, like, a breakout, like, rash. And so we. We got rid of the horse.

Just playing with it.

You. Speaking of horses, you ride horses, right?

I do. I do ride horses.

Just. Does that mean you just say that, meaning, like, you did that because just. You can say you would ride faster

than your friends, Justin. I can say that.

No, like. Like this. Like the barn I would ride at would, like, host events. Shows. Yeah. And I would show there, but I never, like, traveled. I was supposed to travel one time for a show, and then my horse went lame and had a problem. And so then I was riding, like, one of the other horse, like, one of my trainer sources, and he was very different. And I, like, didn't fall off of him. No, I did fall off of him.

Yeah.

It's frightening.

It was frightening. And I hurt myself so I couldn't do it.

Nick also fell off a horse and hurt himself.

It dragged me for like maybe 10 yards.

It was intense and I was like, I don't really want to do this anymore.

I went to school originally for political science, and that lasted truly, like, 20 minutes. Then I was like, I can't do this anymore. And then I tried to get into the film school, but I was shooting a movie at the time when, like, all the exams and stuff were happening, and I was trying to get extensions and stuff, and they were like, no. I was like, okay, but here's, like, I'm actually doing what we're trying to do.

They were like, I'm literally doing the thing.

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

I was like, I'm literally doing the thing that I'm, like, asking you to help me with. They didn't like it, so I was like, fine.

And it's led you to this moment now where you have this massive hit.

Like, it's not the right way to frame the question to say, how does it feel? But going from that phone call in February, you're on set by maybe. Did you think the first week or two while you're on set, oh, this is gonna be something that really connects and people are gonna love these characters and fall in love with the world? Or was it just a really fun job? It's always amazing to have a job, to have a gig to be doing, but to have one that becomes something that is blown up in the way it has.

I think we always knew, just based on how much attention was being given to it already online, we always knew that it was going to be somewhat successful. We had literally no idea that it would become what it's become, and we were just having fun. Last year. All of us are the best of friends, and we were just hanging out in Vancouver for five months and having a great time and kind of having our own little college experience, and it was just great. And then, yeah, we went and did press, and we were just like, who knows? Like, who knows? This is gonna be so fun. Like, maybe we'll go back and. And. Yeah, and it's just been, like, so crazy. I feel like I haven't taken a breath.

[Host/Interviewer]

Yeah, I'm sure it's something, like approaching 40 million views in. In the first, like, 12 days, which is.

[Nick]

That's completely insane.

Like, I don't even know what that means.

I actually think we were. We were in Sao Paulo around the same time. We were just there on tour, and I think we. We nearly crossed paths with the off campus.

I think we did, like, ships in the night.

It would make sense that. That they would gravitate. Gravitate towards something like this, where there's a great romantic angle. There's obviously a lot of physical and emotional things happening as well. I assume you've watched the whole series or have you? Have you not?

Oh, yeah, I've seen it.

I am. I'm working through it right now. I'm very excited. We just completed the first couple. Some steamy scenes in the show.

Obviously. But it seems like, given the nature of the fact that you guys are all friendly, it's a good environment on set, that it's, like, safe, and everyone feels like they can just have fun and stay in the moment and be in the character.

Yeah. And also, like, I don't know if you've worked with intimacy coordinators lately.

[Host/Interviewer]

Very important.

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

But they're very, like. It's a whole thing. There's, like, writers and contracts and stuff. And. And they've been really great at, like, choreographing the fuck out of it. It's been really awesome. And they've just made us so comfortable. And, yeah, honestly, like, all of our intimacy stuff last season didn't really start happening until about halfway through. And so we had the chance to, like, build the rapport and the friendship and the trust and whatnot. And so it's never felt strange.

I'm sure as each of you have. Have sort of really taken on these characters and gotten to know them even better over the course of the first season and the second. The writers are even crafting it more specifically to the way in which you're portraying these characters. And that's a fun thing to see kind of come to life as well.

Yeah. And also, like, to us as the actors too, a lot of us are, like, very similar to our characters in specific ways. And it's been really cool to see how they write our voices into the show and like our. Our skills and like our things as people, which is really cool. Like, you know, getting to do a second season of a show and have the writers really know you is like, totally so unique.

How do you feel like your character matches your personal. Your personality.

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

My personality. I've been saying Ally is just me when I've like, had the best day ever and maybe like five Red Bulls. But like, generally we're very similar. Pure, just like energy, joy. It's like Christmas morning every day.

Have you ever had five Red Bulls?

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

I did. Oh, my God. Two days ago on set, I like, in the span of six hours, had a coffee, a cold brew, and two of like the tall boy Red Bulls and. And a Sudafed.

Yeah.

Because the allergies were getting me and I literally was like, I think I'm going to die.

Yeah. And that was like 2pm wow.

So you mentioned that you're. You're similar to your character Ali in some ways.

Is there a, like, a person in your life who. Who sort of embodies some of the characteristics that Hannah has where you have that same kind of connection?

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

Well, okay, so. So when I was doing the Hannah Ali work, I weirdly was. I'm like the Hannah to one of my best friends, Kiara. She's just, like, so full of life and has so much energy and has this, like, insane balance of being, like, the hype man and also the person that you want to talk to when you're going through something. So that, like, I'm the Hannah in most of my friendships and relationships.

Yeah.

Have you known Chiara for a long time?

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

I've known Kiara since I moved here.

[Host/Interviewer]

Since we moved to la.

Was it tough moving from Dallas and having that friend group there?

[Nick]

I'm sure.

And your childhood and teens and then getting to LA and sort of like kind of starting over, essentially. New new career path and friends.

And I had just finished shooting a kid show also in the Couve and American Girl Doll. No, it was called Project MC Squared.

Oh, nice.

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

And we did two seasons, three seasons, actually. A lot of those girls lived in la. And so when I moved here and then, like, a lot of the people that, like, worked on the. On the show also lived here and they became very familial and kind of like took me in. Like, I would stay with them, stay at their homes when I was, like, homesick and scared. So, no, it really wasn't a huge adjustment. And I had already been flying back and forth between here and Dallas so much as a child that it was like, really not a big deal at all.

It's great.

Yeah.

It can be a wild thing to not only move states, but then to be jumping into a new career path and to have that balance from those folks that you worked up with in Vancouver. So nice. You live in LA now or Vancouver. I guess for a lot of the year.

I don't actually live anywhere right now.

[Host/Interviewer]

That's such an amazing thing.

But that means in the winter it's like terrible.

And it's an interesting thing to navigate. How's it been last couple weeks, months of navigating? That aspect of the amazing part of getting to do what we all do is that you have these amazing opportunities, but it does come with some extra interest in these areas of your life. How's that been to navigate?

[Mika (Guest, Actress)]

I think for all of us, it's just been really interesting. It's something that, like, you think you understand, but you don't until you're experiencing it and really understanding that, like, people will find you on the street or, like, find your parents Facebook pages or, like, it's been strange, but I mean, Amazon's been really supportive and helpful.

Yeah.

I was in the fourth grade. The, the coolest kid in school came up. We just, we moved from Texas to New Jersey. And the cool kid in school, I thought he was the cool kid in school came up to me and said, what's your name? I said, Joe. He's like, oh no, there's too many Joes. Okay. He's like, we're gonna have to change that. And I was like, okay. He's like, what's your last name? It's like, Jonas. He's like, joe Jonas. JJ Jonas. JJ Jonas. That's your name. And not until like months later did I believe a teacher called our parents, said, hey, I would love to talk about, talk about jj. And they're like, who is that? Like your son jj. Like, we don't have a JJ in this house.
