Life Lessons from Grandma is both a comforting and inspiring read. Each chapter is a separate "lesson," explained using real life scenarios that people of all ages can understand and relate to. This book reminded me how wise grandmas can be, and inspired me to give mine a call and take in all of the advice they have to offer. It's clear that the author understood how significant this advice was and really took these valuable life lessons to heart when writing this book. My favorite chapter in this book, and the one that resonated with me the most, was "Self-Love requires you to be selfish." There was some seriously powerful stuff in this chapter and throughout the entire book that really makes the reader think about how they're living their lives! This book was a quick, enjoyable read that I will definitely be recommending! Honest life lessons. Upon reading this book, my initial thoughts about this was it was something already done many times. However, as you go deep into every page, it would become clear that these things are molded to blend with the modern situations. In short these life lessons that are featured in this book became so much more relevant in the way of living right now. There are just some points that I wanted to point out: 1. I do think that it would have been much better if the tone was more motherly. The author's tone sounded like a young person, instead of the Grandma persona. 2. I like that all the situations featured in the book was relatable. A good book is always relatable, regardless of who would read it. It did definitely show an effort to reach to any young target audience. For adults, it might be a bit of an acquired taste. 3. I find that some of the anecdotes sounded a bit negative. It might be because I was hearing a young person's tone, not of a grandma's. It still is helpful and inspiring, however, it just sounded so firm for my taste. 4. It just sounded a bit too aggressive, at some parts of the book. I mean, it doesn't bother me at all, however, it might end up giving a different interpretation to other readers that would be a bit sensitive in some points given in the book. 5. I like the lightness of it. However, I was looking for the persona of a grandmother, and at some parts, I don't think I really feel the presence of a grandmother giving me all of these life lessons. Regardless, I find that the things that were addressed in the book could become a source of strength, in some way.

Members Reviews: I am impressed with the author not only with her writing ability but her artistic ability as well. I bought the book because I was intrigued with cover of the book. Did not realize it was a children's book until I was several pages into it. However, I found the book to be most entertaining and was astonished with the creativity of the author. I would be a great gift for children 7 and above. What I liked most was her imagination and how she involved all the characters with such unique descriptions which made your imaginations run wild. I just wished there were more pictures so that my mind could hone in on them a little more precisely. If this is just her first book, bravo to her, I am anxiously waiting for the next one.....

Title: The Wizards of Wyrd World Author: Pamela F. Service Narrator: Intuitive Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 19 mins Language: English Release date: 07-07-17 Publisher: Lerner Publishing Group Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: Josh Higgins and his sister, Maggie, have vowed not to use the alien gizmo that lets them visit other worlds. But when Josh's favorite writer comes to town, the temptation is too much. Along with famous author P. L. Cuthbertson, Josh and Maggie prepare to visit the land of Cuthbertson's books: Wyrd World. As soon as the crew arrives, some of Wyrd World's thuggish locals mistake P. L. for a wizard - and that's not a good thing. Josh and Maggie begin a rescue mission, sneaking through fortresses and dungeons. But to challenge the planet's evil rulers, they'll have to unite a group of rebels and outcasts who would just as soon fight each other.... Members Reviews: This is an exciting sci fi adventure that finds Josh Higgins trapped in an all-too-real Wyrd world ... Josh Higgins was way too not into having his little sister, Maggie, bother him, especially when he was trying to sleep. "Time to break out the alien gizmo" she shouted at him. Not. The last time they'd tried that they had almost ended up as a couple of human sacrifices for Googoroo, the volcano god on a Not-So-Perfect-Planet. Josh wasn't even going to entertain the thought until Maggie just so happened to mention that his favorite author, P.L. Cuthbertson, the author of the Wyrd World series was going to be coming to their school. How awesome could it get? Cuthbertson's series was a "medieval fantasy" that Josh couldn't get enough of. Maybe somehow they could "plunk the device on his head and get him to" whiz them off to the Wyrd world. There was really no such thing as science fiction because in reality what they would do with the alien gizmo was "tune into worlds that exist somewhere else." Of course Cuthbertson didn't know that, but Josh and Maggie sure did. It was time to get moving and head over to the Forest View Motel to plunk that circlet and staff on P.L.'s head. P.L., sci fi master writer, wasn't about to believe a couple of kids, but once he spotted Leggy things changed. Leggy, "a multi-legged, polka-dotted creature," did the trick and soon they were off to the Wyrd world. Things didn't go quite as planned when they found themselves in the middle of a "skirmish between rebels and the soldiers of Gaurgum." It wouldn't be the first of their problems, nor the last. It wasn't long before they met up with Tortaleen, the Alpha Spy of the Ty Burazi, who had a long knife and liked to use it. Were they ever going to get out of the Wyrd world or would they be stuck there in some sort of Wyrd time warp? This is an exciting sci fi adventure that finds Josh Higgins trapped in an all-too-real Wyrd world. Josh, who is a sci fi writer in his own right, has the ability to travel into unknown worlds using his alien gizmo. Egged on by his sister, Maggie, he's set off on his third venture into the Wyrd world. As in his other adventures, this world is filled with an amazing array of creatures such as Ouliths, Murmazites, and Chezoptrans that have definite appeal to the young sci fi fan. Josh and company find themselves in deep trouble when they encounter less than friendly aliens (again!). This is a quick read, one that will have high appeal to the young, reluctant reader.

Title: Jesper Jinx and the Mouse Mayhem, Book 7 Author: Marko Kitti Narrator: Recording Tales, Colin Jones Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 24 mins Language: English Release date: 04-25-17 Publisher: Marko Kitti Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: Jesper Jinx is 11, and probably the unluckiest person in all of Puffington Hill. Everything he touches seems to end up in sweet disaster. Hence his nickname "Jinx". This time around, it is Puffington Hill itself that appears to be jinxed. The school canteen gets shut down and children are forced to eat wild clover flowers for lunch. Horrible hairy acorns fall from the sky, targeting black cats and squirrels. An eyewitness even claims to have seen a flying antique piano. Something utterly peculiar is going on. And it is up to you, Dear Listener, to help Jesper figure out who's responsible for these seemingly unrelated incidents. Could it be Jesper himself? Or Lenny and Benny, the Warrior Mouse brothers? Or even you yourself, the unsuspecting Audiobook Gobbler? Members Reviews: Quirky, ridiculous and simply a ton of fun Lots of mischief, ridiculousness, mouth dropping situations, and simply a ton of bad luck make this into a hilarious, fast-paced read. Trouble follows Jesper everywhere but is his strain of nonsense due to bad luck or just plain mischief? It's time for the readers to decide. After learning about another one of the more unfortunate events, which happened in his life. . .and the lives of two mice. . .Jesper's real problem might be revealed. Or maybe not. This is the seventh book in the Jesper Jinx series, but it can be read as a solid stand-alone. Jesper is a nice guy with a big heart. In many ways, he's just like the kid next door. But the rest of his life doesn't reflect this, and that's what makes him so wonderful. Kids will have no problem relating to him as he goes through every day situations, which somehow run amok and then some. The ridiculousness knows no bounds, bringing laughter the whole way through. But there's a lovely sense of real life to all of it, which keeps the story planted somewhat on the ground. Although this can be read by girls too, it's definitely a favorite for boys. And even reluctant readers will enjoying diving into these pages. The story plot is pretty basic but entertaining. It isn't told in traditional story format, but rather has a lively narrator who presents Jesper's turmoil. The reader is asked to sign a form, swearing he won't tell anyone else about these mishaps. At the end, the reader is again asked to answer a few questions to decide Jesper's guilt. All along, there are fitting illustrations. Even the story itself is broken down into different points of view, interviews and a diary form. In other words, nothing about his tale is boring. Summed up, this is another great addition to the series and one readers are sure to enjoy. I can highly recommend this especially for boys ages 8 and up. I received a complimentary copy from the author and am more than happy to leave my honest thoughts, since I truly believe that this is a great series for kids. Prepare to laugh until your insides hurt! âSo tell me, my friend,â Oliver goes on, lowering his voice to a near whisper, âhave you been doing anything, say, out of the ordinary today?â The above quote from the book, sums up in entirety, the main premise of this seventh installment. Those who have already read the previous books will have a fair idea about Jesper and his famous nickname, 'jinx'.

Title: The Pandit Author: Ishita Garg Narrator: John Hawkes Format: Unabridged Length: 1 min Language: English Release date: 01-27-17 Publisher: Ishita Garg Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: This story is a gem representing the delightful stories from the Indian subcontinent which capture the simple essence of everyday life in India. The simple pleasures of life indicate a time gone by before the advent of cellphones and Facebook, a time which almost stood still, a time when children could revel in the rain, make paper boats and race them down a drain, play marbles and generally pass time. The once idyllic life almost seems too slow to bear and hence is fascinating to watch unfurl as we listen to the story.
