Christ is some very good news last night. The Houthis have announced that they are not, or they've been announced to us at least that they don't want to fight anymore. They just don't want to fight. And we will honor that and we will, we will stop the bombings.

Breaking news this morning, India has fired missiles at Pakistan in retaliation for last month's massacre of Indian tourists. India says today strikes targeted sites where terrorist attacks against India were planned. Pakistan called the strikes an act of war. More than two dozen people, including kids, were killed. Pakistan prime minister has also authorized the country military to take action in response.
Evita Duffy
You have said that Canada should become the 51st state.
Jack Posobic
No, no.
Ben Harnwell
Well, I still believe that, but. But, you know, takes two to tango, right? But no, I do, I mean, I believe it would be a massive tax cut for the Canadian citizens.

Cardinals from 70 countries will begin the secretive voting ritual to elect a new Pope. The next spiritual leader for the Catholic church needs a 2/3 majority. Cardinals in the Papal conclave gathered for a mass in Rome this morning ahead of the first vote to elect the new Pope of the Catholic Church.
Jack Posobic
All right, this is Jack Posobec. We are here live in the Eternal City. We've got Ben Harnwell here with us as well. Today is 05-07-2025 Anno Domini. And from where we're sitting now, Ben, you're here in Rome on a regular basis. I'm just a visitor. But from where we're sitting we know that we're waiting the smoke to arise from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel. From where we're sitting. Whereabouts will that be?
Unknown Guest
I think boldly out of your left ear.
Jack Posobic
Right, right, right about here above me. And folks, for those, for those, if we could show that shot. So we've, the cardinals have gone behind the locked and sealed doors of the Sistine Chapel. They have given the order extra omnes and extra omnes means anyone who is not a cardinal must leave. So they have been in there and locked doors. We mentioned yesterday a Faraday cage has been constructed containing the Sistine Chapel itself. And we are awaiting, I believe we have a live shot of the chimney. Maybe we have to get that up in the corner or something. And the, for the ability to see do we have a Pope. And this is something that's really just an absolute key for Catholics but not just Catholics. Isn't that right Ben?
Unknown Guest
Yeah, I mean it's important because even a bad pope impacts badly on the global witness of Christians. I think we've seen that right across the world possibly over the last 12 years we've had this pseudo, fake, pseudo anti pope figure undermining the cohesiveness and the coherence of Catholic witness, especially on the pro life issues. And I often point out the fact that the rise of the WOKE phenomenon really in the political sphere on the left really took place in the last anti pontificate. And I actually don't think that's just correlation. I actually think that's cause and effect.
Jack Posobic
Well, and what's been so amazing and we'll get into it after the break, but what we do see happening throughout Europe, on the continent and really throughout America is the rise of Gen Z returning to the church, however, the church that they're returning to. And you see, by the way, you see this with the evangelicals as well, you see it with the orthodox. And they're not going back to the modern Vatican II church. No, they're going to the traditional rites, the ancient rites. What do you think is driving that?
Unknown Guest
I think it's a rejection of the whole boom of philosophy. And it's not, you know, it's not something that you just simply see in the Christian Sphere. You're seeing it in politics as well, I think. Right. Look, how many people sort of younger than us, like kids to us. Right. Coming up, as you say, Generation Z, how MAGA they are. Right. They might not even be that political, but they know there's something about President Trump that they respond to. And I think part of that is, you know, look, social scientists have been pointing out for generations that kids rebel against their parents. And what we're really seeing now is that rebellion taking place not just on the political sphere, but also on the religious sphere.
Jack Posobic
That's across every sphere. I had this conversation with someone yesterday, someone a good friend of mine, and I said. And they said. He said, why is it that Gen Z seems to be moving almost on the right, they're going towards full Trump, and on the left, they're going full extreme. And I said, what's interesting and I'd love to get into this. They've never lived in a world where institutions worked.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Jack Posobic
And so they are now saying we've got to go further and further, whether that means in the past or further towards the future. It's somewhere where they want to be able to find some clarity. Live here in the Eternal City. We are in the Vatican St. Peter Square, the dome built by Michelangelo himself, right behind me. And we're waiting to see black or white smoke be coming from right. Right there. We're right back. Jack Posobic, live in Rome. Human events daily.
Ben Harnwell
Today. You know, they talk about influencers. These are influencers and they're friends of mine. Jack. Where's Jack? Jack. He's got a great job.
Jack Posobic
All right, Jack Posobic, here we are. We are back live in the Eternal City, Rome. Sitting just outside, as you can see, steps away from St. Peter's Basilica, waiting for that proverbial white or black smoke to determine whether or not a pope has been chosen. But, folks, let me tell you something. When I travel, something that I think about a lot is my health. And that's why I made sure when I was traveling. And hey, producer Russ, can you actually go grab the. I want to show the truth on this. I've got my wellness company travel kit is right here with me because you never know what you're going to get when you're traveling. And in fact, when it comes to some of the. One of the new things that they're offering is also weight loss. Because taking control of your weight, it's not about just looking good, it's about taking back control of your health. So here's my kit. Right here, the Wellness Company right here outside of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy, the eternal city. But, you know, here's some more information from the Wellness Company to give you info. 42% of Americans are classified as obese. It's directly linked to severe health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer, costing Americans 173 billion every year in medical expenses alone. If you're dieting and working out with no success, it's not your fault. The system is rigged against you. Well, there's good news. The Wellness Company, in addition to all the great travel medicine that I've definitely got with me, because if I'm going to be doing the show and other shows while I'll be here, I need to be at peak performance. They just announced drop, a GLP1 peptide oral drop formula developed by their chief medical board designed to support your metabolism, curb cravings and help you shed weight. That's right. No injections, no severe side effects. We're seeing in the zempic. Just drop in water, gradually increasing the quantity over time, letting your body do the rest. Start your weight loss journey today or get $50 and get $50 off plus free shipping. Take aim for a healthier tomorrow. All right, we're here. Still waiting for that black smoke. Do you expect to see white smoke tonight though? So. And for folks you know that aren't familiar, by the way, I want to bring in the Salem radio network, hour three, the Charlie Kirk Show. We're here outside of St. Peter's looking for either black or white smoke. Black smoke means pope has not been chosen. White smoke means a pope has been chosen. This will be the first and it has not happened yet. So we're actually, we were Expecting this about 25 minutes ago, a bit late, perhaps some conversations going on late into the evening. But Ben, would you expect there to be a pope tonight with white smoke?
Unknown Guest
No, I wouldn't. And that's something I would actually fear quite a lot. Possibly because it would significant. It would signify that Bergoglio was able to stitch up his Successor with the 80% of the conclave that he appointed. That it was basically just.
Jack Posobic
So that would mean that. Right. So that the fix is in.
Unknown Guest
The fix would be in.
Jack Posobic
The fix would be in. And the votes have already been cast long before anyone went into the Sistine Chapel.
Ben Harnwell
And.
Jack Posobic
And all of this, you know, sort of papa be lay and the bet, the betting markets, which apparently there's betting markets here as well. This of course, would, you know, would. Would all be for naught. Because in fact there would be, there would be in the sense a, you know, a fix in. By the way, you know, I know we're having, we're dealing with some, some signal issues as well because we're here just outside the Faraday cage of the Sistine Chapel. So we're, you know, we're fighting some of those signal jammers as well as we're dealing with that. And so, but Ben, so what you're saying then is as the days go longer, perhaps the faithful could be more hopeful that we get a non progressive Pope, Someone potentially who is more interested in even being opening and not persecuting the traditional Catholics.
Unknown Guest
I'm not that optimistic. I'm not that hopeful. I reckon there's going to be a progressive that comes out of, that comes out onto the, on the loggia, the balcony, whatever happens. The way I heard it termed the other day, and I think it's a useful way of defining the issue is are we going to get a revolutionary or simply a mere reformer? Now, Parolin, the present or outgoing Secretary of State, the Vatican's prime minister, he would consider to be, I suppose broadly a moderate reformer, but not a revolutionary. And that is why the Bergoglio appointees are massively putting out the spin against him, saying he was obstructing Bergoglio on some of his pro openness reforms. For example, on the divorced and remarried receiving communion. They're saying that Parolin was trying to obstacle them from behind. So that's just an indication that the bogoluites really don't want someone who is going to slow down the revolutionary momentum.
Jack Posobic
Turn down the momentum, but not the trajectory. We'll see, folks, wise words, Ben Harnwell here in Rome. Ben, thanks so much for joining me. Man, Jack, let's do this in person for once, right? Yeah, not so bad. Okay. Well folks, we will be right back. We've got great Evita Duffy joining us next.
Ben Harnwell
And Jack. Where's Jack? Where's Jack? Where is he? Jack, I want to see you. Great job, Jack. Thank you. What a job you do. You know, we have an incredible thing. We're always talking about the fake news and the bad, but we have guys and these are the guys who'd be getting Pulitzer.
Jack Posobic
All right, Jack Posobec. Here we are back live, Rome, Italy, at the site of the Papal Conclave. This is a conclave which will decide the future for a billion plus Catholics around the world and also set the trajectory of world affairs in many ways, depending on which cardinal comes out yet. And we're double checking this, but I've got. Just behind me is where the smoke will arise from the Sistine Chapel. It has yet to arise, which could potentially mean that tonight's deliberations. Tonight is. This is the first day, this is the first evening of deliberations. It could go perhaps later into the evening, much later than was originally thought we were expecting to see smoke as of now already I want to bring in my favorite anti communist but also a great Gen Z Catholic in her own right. It's Evita Duffy, the host of the Ongina Report, early edition. Evita, how are you?
Evita Duffy
Good, thanks for having me, Jack.
Jack Posobic
Evita, I wish you could be here.
Evita Duffy
I wish I could too. I thought your call to faithful Catholics to be praying outside of the Conclave was so important. I can't. I wasn't given permission. Maybe next time the Bongino army will.
Jack Posobic
Maybe next time.
Evita Duffy
It's so good.
Jack Posobic
We knew there's a lot of good Catholics in the Bongino army but you know, Evita, we were talking a little bit earlier and something that I've been saying all week and is the direction of the next papacy is potentially one where, one where we could continue this persecution of the traditional Latin Mass, the orthodox version of the Catholic rites, or perhaps find a pope who strikes a chord that bridges some of these burgeoning schisms. I have to say it, I hate to use the word, but that is what it is. It is a potential schism within the church itself. Or you know, there's also the great, as Taylor Marshall says, the choice of the Sigma. Cardinal Pizzaballa, who, Cardinal Pizzabala who comes from. He's currently situated in the Holy Land. He's been there for quite some time. He's been eschewing the sort of press tour. He's not holding Mass while he's been here. He's sort of just been kind of going around Rome and going to Mass while he's here. No interviews whatsoever. So, Evita, I wanted to get your sense on that this huge surge of Gen Z that we're seeing into the church, a lot of men, a lot of women as well. What is Gen Z looking for when it comes to a new Pope?
Evita Duffy
Well, it's such a good question, Jack, because the clear answer is tradition. Gen Z is incredibly attracted to tradition. If you look at churches that are growing and thriving where there's lots of little babies and families coming together, they tend to be the more trad churches. It's funny, when I was growing up in Wisconsin, I went to A Latin mass church. It was actually confirmed there. It's a institute of Christ the King Church. And there were always babies crying, which was the greatest thing ever, because you knew it was a growing, thriving church. You go down the road and there are these older churches that have really held on to Vatican ii and they seem to be dying. The pews are filled with very old people. And I love old people. That's great. But it doesn't indicate that the church is growing and thriving. Young people want tradition in the church. People are praying right now.
Jack Posobic
If I can. If I could just throw out real quick, the phrase I've always loved is if your church ain't crying, it's dying.
Evita Duffy
Exactly, Exactly, Jack. And this matters to everyone. This is a great. This is a great thing to keep in mind if you're not a Catholic. The Catholic Church is civilizational. It's an institution that has lasted for centuries. It has clearly a massive impact on the entire world. There are faithful Catholics everywhere, in every single country, in every corner of the earth. So it matters if we want to have a Christian traditional revival in this country, in the world more broadly, that we have a conservative Pope leading the Catholic Church. This is good for everyone, irrespective of whether you're actually a Catholic.
Jack Posobic
And I think that's so important, you know, and as we wait here. And of course, you know, I'm hearing. I'm hearing horns, I'm hearing sirens, you know, perhaps. Well, part of that's just being in Italy, but another part of it is people are waiting. And there are thousands of people that we saw even earlier today, waiting, praying, as each cardinal made. They did the roll call, they made the vow of silence. They went up one by one, and then the doors of the Sistine Chapel were closed and the order given extra omnes, which means every person who is not a cardinal is ejected from. From the Sistine Chapel. The all power cords are pulled out of that place. It's turned into a Faraday cage. No one is allowed out. So you do get that, of course, while you're here, you do get that connection to these traditional rights. And so it's amazing that here you are talking about how this is what Gen Z is looking for. It's like when you hold a papal conclave. This is one of the most ancient rites that there is. And yet why is it that Rome can seem to have that? And yet when it comes to just the average person wanting to go to mass in anywhere in the States or anywhere across the continent, it's so much Harder to find those types of churches that are absolutely gorgeous, having the Latin mass or even going to, you know, even if it's a Norvis Ordo mass in a church that doesn't look like a YMCA with a cross up. You know what I mean?
Evita Duffy
Exactly, Jack. And you know the church is under attack right now. It's not there aren't. There aren't Christians being beheaded as there are in Congo. But in the United States, we have this problem. Under the last administration, you had FBI officials infiltrating traditional Catholic communities for potential extremism. Right now you have in Washington forcing priests to potentially break the seal of confession and report crimes to federal, to law enforcement. So there is a war against the Catholic Church waging right now. And unfortunately, lukewarm Catholicism is not going to be capable of defending the faithful. The church militant need strong leadership that leans into exactly what the Catholic Church stands for. All of the traditions, all of the moral teachings, and being proud of them instead of shying away from them, which is what we've been doing for a long time.
Jack Posobic
And that's. That's precisely right. By the way, folks, I want to, I want to remind everybody out there that, you know, people say, how do you do this every day, day in, day out? And if we could take just one second, Evita, to remind people about today's episode sponsor, I'm going to tell you right now, they're blackout coffee. And they give us the ability, along with so many others, to do what we're doing out here. So folks, listen up, because if you're still drinking that corporate watered down nonsense, it's time for a serious wake up call. Blackout coffee. It's not just coffee. It's a statement, a declaration that you are done with weak coffee and weak values. This is high octane American roasted fuel for those who grind harder, stand taller and never back down. Look, I know that I need that stuff to power me to power what I do out here on mission. Blackout coffee. It's not just playing games. They're cranking out more bags than ever, shipping faster than ever, and keeping you locked in with coffee. And that actually fires you up. Whether you're chasing big goals, crushing the daily grind, or refusing to drink coffee made by people who hate you. Blackout coffee has your back. So stop settling. Go to blackout coffee.com poso and use promo code POSO for 20% off your first order. Drink like a patriot and go and drink blackout coffee. That's blackout coffee.com poso blackout coffee.com poso Evita you know, as we think about this, it's so true. The church has been under attack. And I've just got to say it. I didn't hear the biggest responses to attacks on the church from the clergy. I heard it from people like Donald Trump, like senators, like Josh Hawley, people out there as conservative pundits fight, Dan Bongino fighting back, who went along with Cash Patel to go and shore up the FBI that was conducting some of these attacks. But it almost feels like the American clergy. I know when I talk to Charlie Kirk and he says he sees the same thing in some of the evangelical world, that you just have these. These priests and pastors who kind of want to go along, to get along, go with the flow and meet the world where it is, rather than being that. That unchanging rock, that unchanging beacon of truth in a world gone mad. That's what the church is called to be, isn't it?
Evita Duffy
Yes. And, Jack, I actually wrote multiple articles in the wake of these reports that the FBI was surveilling and infiltrating traditional Catholic communities, asking the U.S. catholic Conference of Bishops, will you come out and defend the faithful who are being targeted by this administration? They did not respond to me. There were a couple individual bishops who had comments on what happened, but the U.S. catholic Conference of Bishops was silent. And in fact, where I lived in Chicago, Cardinal Cupich shut down Latin Mass. They shut down the church that I was attending. So in my view, what the church was doing in the last few years is not only did they not defend the faithful, they actually piled on by trying to restrict traditional liturgy. And it just goes to show, there is a. There is a corruption. There is a rot in the church. There needs to be a rebirth. There needs to be a revival of the church. We're conservatives. You don't believe in tearing things down and destroying them like the left does. There needs to be a revival that is not abandoning the church in this time of need, but to really pray for it, to ask for true guidance, which we have not had in a very long time.
Jack Posobic
Well, and that's exactly right. You know, people say. When you hear people say why they left the church, one of the first things they'll say is because of the clergy and the corruption scandal from sort of the late 90s, early 2000s. So many people will say that was the problem, and not just that it happened, but the fact that so much of the American bishops were covering it up. They were absolutely covering it up. We as Catholics have to say we demand more we demand better. We are going to clean up our own house before anyone else even has a chance to. So that's something as well that, by the way, I would love to see out of this, this Conclave right now. And I've even heard people say that I would hope, I'm praying for this. Of course, we pray that the Holy Spirit is in that room right now working on the heart of every single member of the Conclave. But in addition, what I hope is that someone in that conclave, one of the cardinals will get up and say if there was any cardinal here that was associated with one of these scandals, they should recuse themselves. They should recuse themselves from the vote and they should, in fact step out of this. And that would include, I'm sorry, I hate to say this, but it would include a lot of high level cardinals. Last minute in the segment, Evita Duffy.
Evita Duffy
Well, I'll just say if you go to Lifesite News, great organization. They're actually keeping track of some of these individuals who are high ranking cardinals who are going to be voting and who have connections to Cardinal McCarrick, one of the worst child sex abusers in the Catholic Church's history. So these people definitely should recruit, recuse themselves. They can't be guided by the Holy Spirit. In fact, they should take a step back, focus on their own spiritual health at this time. So there are a lot of people who should not be voting. What's most important right now is that everybody, whether you're a Catholic or not, pray for this conclave. It matters to the Catholic Church. It matters to the world.
Jack Posobic
That absolutely matters to the world of eda. Let's hold you over one more segment because there's a lot to talk about here. And of course, we're waiting for that. That smoke over my right shoulder. It's a little bit darker, but we've got a shot where it's lighter. I mean, these guys, they don't they understand that we're, we're live right now. They should be a little more appreciative. I flew all the way here for Human Events Daily and they, they, they can't even get one measly puff of smoke while we're on air. My gosh, my gosh. What are we going to do, folks? Quick break right back. Jack Posobic live from.
Ben Harnwell
Jack is a great guy. He's written a fantastic book. Everybody's talking about it. Go get it. And he's been my friend right from the beginning of this whole beautiful event. And we're going to turn it around and make our country great again.

Preparations are underway to elect Pope Francis successor cardinals arrived at the Vatican this morning ahead of next week's conclave. The College of Cardinals set Wednesday, May 7, as the second start date to elect the next pope. Today, the Vatican released video of workers installing the stove at the Sistine Chapel, where the ballots will be burned during the conclave.
Unknown Reporter
There is an old phrase in Rome warning against papal ambitions. He who enters a conclave as a pope leaves it as a cardinal. Of course, we won't know until that white smoke comes up behind me above the Sistine Chapel. There's perhaps no clearer sign of an ensuing conclave. Vatican firefighters installing the chimney where, when the pope has been named, white smoke will billow. As for who the next one will be, the church leaves it to 133 cardinal electors and the Holy Spirit.
Jack Posobic

Listening to Human Events with Jack Posobic.
Jack Posobic
All right, Jack Posobic here back. We are live in Rome, Italy, just steps away from St. Peter's Basilica itself. The Vatican, of course. We are waiting for a billow of smoke. And earlier when the show started, it was a little bit lighter, but the sun is now down. And so if we do get that black smoke, I'm sorry, folks, won't be able to see it. For those of you listening on the Salem Radio Network on the podcast, you wouldn't be able to see it anyway. But I tell you all about it, and you've probably seen smoke before. We're on with Evita Duffy of the Bongino Report, early Edition. Evita, let's step back a little, a little bit here and talk about this just from a more meta perspective as we end up the show. Religion, specifically Christianity, is always targeted by the forces of revolution, by the forces of the left. Why is it that religion is something that they always target first? Just like in the United states in the 1960s, it was God in the public square and God in schools that was the very first target. Why is it always Christianity?
Evita Duffy
Well, look, Jack, I mean, authoritarian regimes everywhere, they thrive off of the authority that they have. They thrive off of fear of people viewing them as the absolute. And when you have tons and tons of people in your country viewing God in heaven as their ultimate authority, suddenly those people become a lot less, a lot, a lot more difficult to control. This is why communist regimes everywhere hate Christianity. This is why they purposely try to subvert the church everywhere they go. This is. This is just what happens. And If I could just say, Jack, right now, there are a lot of people on TikTok and on Instagram who were Catholics, former Catholics, who are now weighing in on the conclave. And they are. You have all these opinions about the Catholic Church and why it should be woke. I just have to say the Catholic Church needs really strong, really traditional leadership. And everybody weighing in, the vast majority of them do not care about Catholicism. They said nothing about the. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence back during the Biden admin. They said nothing about the targeting of traditional Catholics under the Biden admin. I really don't want to hear it from a lot of these people. The Church is under attack, and we need strong leadership.
Jack Posobic
And it's really as simple as that. People are done with the weakness. They are done with the, as C.S. lewis would call it, the men without chests. You want someone who has. But, and this is also something, by the way, that, you know, it gets into a different discussion, but it is. There's a difference between physical strength and moral strength and physical strength. You can go to the gym, you can work out, you can do your reps, you can do all that. Lots of great people can go out and do it, and you be an athlete. But then many times we see this with some athletes and many others, they lack moral strength and moral character. And Evita, isn't that really what we're lacking so much in society today?
Evita Duffy
Yeah. I mean, what is society geared toward today? Ultimately, it's all about pleasure. It's all about what makes me feel good in every circumstance. And the Catholic Church actually says, you know what, you actually need to suffer a little bit in life. You need to go through some hardships. You need to actually make difficult decisions that are the right decisions if you want to truly be happy. You need to turn to Christ if you want to be happy, which is a really hard thing to do, especially in the world that we live in. It's actually a radical departure from what the modern world is presenting to people. And it's a threat to the. To the cultural norms of our time. It's a threat to authoritarian governments. It's a threat to a lot of things and a lot of people. And that's why this conclave is so important, and it's why so many people who you think shouldn't be caring about the Catholic Church at all are weighing in because this is such a momentous occasion.
Jack Posobic
And as it comes down to, this is going to affect not just the 1.5 billion Catholics, but a voice for so many out there when it comes. By the way, we have so many wars that are going on right now that were not happening when the last pope actually didn't die but stepped aside. Which is a whole other conversation we could have, I'm sure. But we see the war in Israel and Gaza, we see the war in Ukraine, we see India and Pakistan, which popped off, seems to have simmered down. But you know, we see if that will escalate. We want a pope that stands for peace. Evita Duffy. Where can people follow you?

Summary of "Human Events Daily with Jack Posobiec" Episode: Live From Rome - Day One of the Conclave Release Date: May 7, 2025
In the May 7, 2025 episode of Human Events Daily with Jack Posobiec, host Jack Posobiec brings listeners live from Rome during the pivotal Papal Conclave—the gathering of Cardinals tasked with electing a new Pope for the Catholic Church. The episode delves deep into the intricacies of the conclave, the state of the Catholic Church, and the broader implications for both religious and global affairs. Joining Jack are notable guests, including Ben Harnwell and Evita Duffy, who provide insights into the ongoing deliberations and their potential outcomes.
The primary focus of the episode centers around the conclave's proceedings. Jack Posobiec and his co-host Ben Harnwell provide a live analysis of the events unfolding at the Sistine Chapel.
Live Watch on Smoke Signals: The conclave is traditionally concluded when white smoke emerges from the Sistine Chapel's chimney, signaling the election of a new Pope, while black smoke indicates continued deliberations. As of the episode's recording, no smoke had risen, leading to speculation about the conclave's progress.
"We are here live in the Eternal City...waiting for the smoke to arise from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel." [00:49]
Ben Harnwell expresses skepticism about the conclave's integrity, suggesting that the outcome may already be predetermined:
"No, I wouldn't... it would signify that Bergoglio was able to stitch up his Successor with the 80% of the conclave that he appointed." [10:18]
Jack echoes these concerns, hinting at a potential "fix" within the conclave:
"The fix is in... the votes have already been cast long before anyone went into the Sistine Chapel." [10:34]
A significant portion of the discussion revolves around the challenges facing the Catholic Church, both internally and externally.
Generational Shifts: The rise of Generation Z's interest in traditional rites is highlighted as a double-edged sword. While it indicates a return to foundational practices, it also underscores a rebellion against modern interpretations.
"Gen Z is incredibly attracted to tradition... young people want tradition in the church." [16:11]
Internal Corruption and Calls for Reform: Evita Duffy emphasizes the need for internal reform within the Church, pointing to past scandals and the current administration's suppression of traditional practices.
"The Church is under attack... there needs to be a rebirth. There needs to be a revival of the church." [19:15]
Jack adds to this by criticizing the American clergy's response to these challenges, advocating for stronger leadership:
"Priests and pastors who kind of want to go along, to get along... That unchanging rock, that unchanging beacon of truth." [22:22]
The episode doesn't limit its scope to religious matters but expands into geopolitical discussions, linking the Pope's potential stance to global conflicts and movements.
Intersection of Religion and Politics: The speakers discuss how the direction of the next Pope could influence global peace initiatives and the Church's role in advocating for traditional values against progressive shifts.
"This is going to affect not just the 1.5 billion Catholics, but a voice for so many out there." [31:37]
Global Conflicts: Recent conflicts, such as those in Israel and Gaza, Ukraine, and the tensions between India and Pakistan, are mentioned as areas where the new Pope's influence could be pivotal.
A recurring theme is the tension between maintaining traditional practices and adapting to contemporary societal norms.
Traditional vs. Modern Rites: There is a clear preference expressed for the Latin Mass and ancient rites over the modern Vatican II liturgies, seen as a cornerstone for retaining Catholic faith among younger generations.
"The traditional rites, the ancient rites... instead of being that unchanging rock." [05:27]
Impact of Authoritarianism: Evita Duffy connects the decline of religious authority with the rise of authoritarian regimes, arguing that strong religious institutions are essential for maintaining moral boundaries in society.
"Authoritarian regimes everywhere hate Christianity... They purposely try to subvert the church." [28:43]
As the episode draws to a close, Jack Posobiec and Evita Duffy reiterate the critical nature of the conclave's outcome, emphasizing its far-reaching implications for both the Catholic Church and the broader socio-political landscape.
Call to Action: There is a strong appeal for Catholics and non-Catholics alike to pray for the conclave, underscoring the event's significance beyond religious circles.
"What is most important right now is that everybody, whether you're a Catholic or not, pray for this conclave." [24:47]
Anticipation of Smoke Signals: The episode remains on high alert for the appearance of white or black smoke, representing the conclave's immediate outcome, while also hinting at the potential for ongoing secrecy and predetermined results.
"Waiting for that black smoke... black smoke, I'm sorry, folks, won't be able to see it." [25:20]
Jack Posobec on Conclave Proceedings:
"No, I wouldn't. And that's something I would actually fear quite a lot. Possibly because it would significant..." [10:27]
Evita Duffy on Tradition:
"Gen Z is incredibly attracted to tradition... young people want tradition in the church." [16:11]
Jack Posobec on Church Leadership:
"Priests and pastors who kind of want to go along, to get along... That unchanging rock, that unchanging beacon of truth." [22:22]
Evita Duffy on Internal Reform:
"The Church is under attack... there needs to be a rebirth. There needs to be a revival of the church." [19:15]
