Paramedic
All right, we got an 18 year old female, unresponsive, no trauma, no signs of overdose. BP's 90 over 60. Heart rate is 52. Respiration shallow at 10. Pupil sluggish, non reactive on the right. GCS is 6.
Emily
Hello? Is anybody there?
Kidnapped Caller
Where am I?
Jesus
Tell me the last thing you remember.
Emily
I wasn't feeling well and that's all I can remember.
Jesus
You don't remember anything else?
Emily
No.
Jesus
Emily, you passed out.
Dr. Miller
Excuse me, Mrs. Harper. This is going to be hard to hear, but the CT scan confirmed that Emily has a mass in her brain. A tumor about the size of a golf ball. It's causing increased pressure. If we don't act quickly, the swelling could cause irreversible damage.
Mrs. Harper
Surgery now.
Dr. Miller
Yes. We need to act immediately. We'll perform a craniotomy to remove the mass and relieve the pressure. And we're going to do everything we can.
Emily
Wait. I asked you to be here.
Jesus
You did. Quite insistently, actually.
Emily
And you just showed up. Great. So I'm stuck here in this. Whatever this is. With some cryptic, all knowing whatever you are. I just don't understand why this is happening. Why now? Why me?
Jesus
You really want to know?
Emily
Yes.
Jesus
You asked for something more. Something beyond the noise. Something real.
Emily
And that's why I'm here.
Jesus
That's why I'm here.
Emily
I don't even know who you are.
Jesus
Sure you do.
Emily
I don't.
Jesus
You can say it.
Emily
Say what?
Jesus
My name.
Emily
I don't. Jesus.
Jesus
It took you long enough.
Dr. Miller
Suction. I have visual of the mass. Prepping to resect. Minimal adhesion. Should come out cleanly. Keep her pressure steady. Dr. Miller, what is this? Dr. Cole, are you seeing what I'm seeing?
Emily
Yeah. That's unexpected.
Dr. Miller
This wasn't on the scan.
Emily
So you're just here talking to me?
Jesus
Seems that way.
Emily
No offense, but isn't there I don't know. More important stuff you should be doing.
Jesus
What's more important than this moment?
Emily
Um. Wars, hunger, world peace.
Jesus
All of which I care about deeply.
Emily
Then why are you here?
Jesus
Because you asked me to be here. And because right now, this is where you are. This is where I need to be.
Emily
You keep saying that. That I asked for this.
Jesus
You did?
Emily
When?
Kidnapped Caller
You're so beautiful, my child. My Jesus.
Emily
I've heard this story countless times, but I never imagined it this way. It's perfect. He's perfect. That's it? That was enough?
Jesus
Your heart invited me in. You didn't say it out loud, but you asked for something more. You asked for me. And now I'm here.
Emily
And where is here?
Jesus
Think of it as a waiting room.
Emily
A waiting room?
Jesus
Yeah. One foot in, one foot out of what? You're in surgery, Emily. Right now, your body, your real body, is lying in a hospital bed surrounded by people doing everything they can to keep you alive.
Emily
Will they?
Jesus
That's what they're fighting for.
Emily
This doesn't seem real.
Jesus
I know.
Emily
I. I don't understand.
Jesus
Okay. What don't you understand?
Emily
All of it. You, me, this. I mean, if you're actually you, why would you care what happens to me? I'm not. Exactly. I mean, I never. I never believed in you.
Jesus
I know, but a few hours ago, you did.
Emily
I want to believe. I really do. But you're asking me to just, what, accept all this without question? That doesn't make sense.
Jesus
I never said you couldn't question it.
Emily
So I'm allowed to ask questions, but I just have to accept that none of them come with easy answers.
Jesus
Faith isn't about answers, Emily. It's about what you hold onto when answers don't come.
Emily
That sounds exhausting.
Jesus
Sometimes it is.
Emily
Then why do people do it?
Jesus
Because sometimes it's the only thing that keeps them going.
Emily
I don't know if I can do this.
Jesus
You don't have to have it all figured out.
Emily
Then what do I do?
Jesus
You start where you are.
Emily
Okay.
Jesus
Okay.
Emily
So what happens now?
Jesus
Now we take a walk.

Emily
There'S assessment of the death to row five. Assessment of the death to row five.
Dr. Miller
Mrs. Harper, first things first. Emily is stable.
Mrs. Harper
Oh, thank God.
Dr. Miller
But we did find something else.
Mrs. Harper
What do you mean?
Dr. Miller
During the procedure, we discovered an aneurysm.
Mrs. Harper
An aneurysm?
Dr. Miller
Yes. Tucked away in a spot we wouldn't normally have seen. Unless.
Mrs. Harper
Unless what?
Dr. Miller
Unless we went in the way we did.
Mrs. Harper
I don't understand.
Dr. Miller
Emily was already critical when she came in. We had to act fast, and I made a call. One that, honestly, I couldn't fully explain at the time. Something told me we needed to take a different approach. If we had gone the more standard route, we wouldn't have ever seen it.
Mrs. Harper
But you did.
Dr. Miller
We did. And that means we caught it before it ruptured. Before it. It could have.
Mrs. Harper
I don't. I don't know what to say. How long has it even been there?
Dr. Miller
It's hard to say. Could have been there for years. Some people lived their whole lives with an undetected aneurysm, but others. Well, let's just say if it had ruptured, we'd be having a very different conversation right now.
Kidnapped Caller
So you're saying it was kind of a miracle?
Dr. Miller
I'm saying I don't have a medical explanation for why I chose to go in the way I did. And I don't know why I felt like I had to check that specific area, but I'm glad I did.
Mrs. Harper
Thank you.
Dr. Miller
Don't thank me yet. She's still got a long road ahead of her, but we're going to do everything we can. And that's what I need to walk you through now.
Mrs. Harper
Okay.
Dr. Miller
Here's where we are, where this aneurysm is located. The risk of rupture is too high. We need to operate again.
Mrs. Harper
What does that mean?
Dr. Miller
This isn't a normal procedure. It's complex, long, and demanding on the body. The aneurysm is in a difficult location, which means traditional methods aren't an option here. To repair it, we'll need to perform a bypass. Bypass?
Mrs. Harper
In her brain?
Dr. Miller
Yeah. We're going to take a vein from Emily's arm and use it to reroute blood flow in her brain. The aneurysm itself will be sealed off, but the bypass will ensure her brain continues to get everything it needs.
Mrs. Harper
You're. You're moving a vein from her arm.
Dr. Miller
I know how it sounds, but it's a technique we've used before, and it's the best option we have. The vein in her arm will adapt over time. The body will recognize it as part of her brain's natural circulation. Emily Will be under anesthesia for a long time. This procedure can take anywhere from 10 to 12 hours, sometimes longer. We have to be extremely careful. Her brain will be under significant stress. Her body will have to compensate for the loss of blood during the grafting. And recovery is going to be hard. Very. After the procedure, she will be in ICU for at least a couple of weeks. We'll monitor for swelling, for any changes in neurological function. The risk of complication is there. Stroke, infection, even rejection of the graft.
Kidnapped Caller
Dr. Miller, could. Could I pray for you?
Dr. Miller
You guys are free to pray as much as you like. There is a chapel on the fourth floor if you'd like to go there.
Kidnapped Caller
No, I meant, can I pray for you?
Dr. Miller
For me?
Kidnapped Caller
Yeah. You're caring a lot. Can I pray for you?
Dr. Miller
Uh, sure.
Kidnapped Caller
God, thank youk for guiding Dr. Miller's hands tonight. For the wisdom youm give him, even if he doesn't know where it came from. Thank youk for his team, the nurses, and everyone in that room that has helped keep Emily safe. Give the doctors and nurses strength. Give Dr. Miller peace. Let him know he is not alone. Please keep Emily strong. Keep her steady. Be with her. Let her know in some way that you are with her. Amen.
Dr. Miller
Amen.
Emily
I've been thinking about what you said earlier. About the doctors and the surgery. It's hard. Like, how am I supposed to be here with you when part of me is out there unaware and in pain? You said something is wrong with me up there, but you haven't told me what it is. You said this place is like having one foot in and one foot out. I'm terrified to think that I'm here to ease the future, of no longer being there.
Jesus
Emily, I know how heavy these questions feel. I want you to know that even though you didn't choose this state, I promised you I would stay by your side always.
Emily
But how can I trust that when so much of me is out there hurting? It feels like I'm split in two, Caught between the fear of what's happening to my body and this quiet place here.
Jesus
You know something? I remember the first time you prayed.
Emily
You do?
Jesus
You asked me to help your dad. You wanted him to stop drinking.
Emily
I remember that, too. So why didn't you?
Jesus
It wasn't time yet.
Emily
What does that mean?
Jesus
You're a creative person, right?
Emily
I guess.
Jesus
I know you are. You like to paint, don't you? Think of God's plan like a painting. Up close, each brushstroke might seem erratic or even chaotic. And it's Easy to wonder if there's any meaning to it at all. But step back and you'll see this grand masterpiece. Every stroke, every color coming together to form a design more beautiful than you could have ever imagined. Now, the great part for me is I can see the whole picture. And I promise you, every detail, however puzzling right now, has its place in that unfolding work of art.
Emily
Sometimes it feels like all I can see is the messiness of the painting, Like I only see chaos up close. How can I trust that the chaos will ever form into something beautiful?
Jesus
Up close, every detail can seem overwhelming. But remember, beauty can sometimes hide in what appears chaotic. When you allow yourself to step back, even just a little, you begin to see that every stroke, every color, has its purpose.
Emily
I wish I could see that. Right now, all I feel is confusion and fear. I'm terrified about what's happening to me out there. And here. All I see are fragments that don't add up.
Jesus
It's okay to feel that way. You're finding your faith. And faith isn't about understanding every detail in the moment. It's about trusting that that full picture is unfolding as it should. Even if the chaos feels overwhelming now, know that it's part of a larger, beautiful design that I see clearly.
Emily
So even if I can't see it. Yet. You believe that these moments, however painful and confusing, are important for something greater?
Jesus
I do. Just as a painter uses each brushstroke to build the final masterpiece, every experience is necessary, even if you only see a jumble of colors right now, trust that there's a greater vision at work.
Emily
I want to trust that I'm just scared that I'll never be able to step back far enough to see it.
Jesus
You don't have to step back on your own, Emily. I'm here to help you see beyond the immediate, to hold you in the midst of your uncertainty. Every moment, I'm with you, reminding you that even when the details seem overwhelming, they are all part of an unfolding design meant to lead you to wholeness.
Emily
I guess it's comforting to hear that even if I can't see it yet. I'm trying. I'm trying to believe that there's a purpose, that my pain isn't just noise.
Jesus
Trust that every part of you, even the parts that feel broken or chaotic, will come together to form a masterpiece. And remember, I promised I'd be there every step of the way.
Emily
I'll try my best to trust that promise. If you can see the whole painting, then I guess I should trust you.
Jesus
That's all I ask. Hold on to that trust. In time, the beauty of your story will reveal itself. Until then, lean on me. And together, we'll navigate every brushstroke, every moment of uncertainty until the full picture shines through.
Emily
Okay. So can you tell me what's going on up there?
Jesus
Sure.

Podcast Summary: I Witness: Between Two Worlds
Episode: S3E2 - A Still, Beating Hope
Release Date: April 30, 2025
In the second episode of Season 3, titled "A Still, Beating Hope", I Witness: Between Two Worlds delves deep into the intertwining realms of medical reality and spiritual intervention. Hosted by Northwest Christian School and produced by Red Five Media, this episode masterfully blends suspenseful audio drama with profound theological discussions, offering listeners a compelling narrative that challenges perceptions and evokes introspection.
The episode opens with a stark portrayal of emergency situations, highlighting the overwhelming number of 911 calls annually. The Narrator sets the stage:
"[00:04] Narrator: 240 million calls are made to 911 every year. 600,000 calls each day. 50,000 calls to 911 report kidnappings. Not every voice is found."
This grim statistic transitions into a real-time emergency response scenario as Emily, portrayed by a voice actor, answers a distressing call from a kidnapped individual:
"[00:26] Emily: 911, what is your emergency?"
[00:29] Kidnapped Caller: Please, you have to help me."
Despite Emily's attempts to assist, the caller remains unidentified, underscoring the complexities and emotional weight of emergency response.
The narrative swiftly shifts to a hospital setting, where medical professionals discuss Emily's critical condition. Dr. Miller provides a comprehensive overview:
"[01:16] Paramedic: All right, we got an 18-year-old female, unresponsive, no trauma, no signs of overdose. BP's 90 over 60. Heart rate is 52. Respiration shallow at 10. Pupil sluggish, non-reactive on the right. GCS is 6."
As Emily regains consciousness, she finds herself in a perplexing state, balancing her physical reality with a supernatural presence claiming to be Jesus:
"[02:31] Jesus: You did. Quite insistently, actually."
[02:34] Emily: And you just showed up. Great. So I'm stuck here in this. Whatever this is. With some cryptic, all-knowing whatever you are. I just don't understand why this is happening. Why now? Why me?"
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the profound conversations between Emily and the enigmatic Jesus figure. They grapple with themes of faith, existence, and purpose amidst Emily's medical turmoil.
Emily's Quest for Understanding:
"[03:00] Jesus: You asked for something more. Something beyond the noise. Something real."
[03:06] Emily: And that's why I'm here."
Emily expresses her confusion and fear, questioning the presence of Jesus and the reasons behind her suffering:
"[03:24] Emily: I don't. Jesus."
[03:29] Jesus: It took you long enough."
Exploration of Faith:
The dialogue delves into the essence of faith, highlighting its role in providing strength during uncertain times:
"[07:48] Jesus: Faith isn't about answers, Emily. It's about what you hold onto when answers don't come."
[07:56] Emily: That sounds exhausting."
[07:59] Jesus: Sometimes it is."
Metaphor of the Grand Painting:
Jesus employs a powerful metaphor to help Emily comprehend the bigger picture of her life's challenges:
"[15:42] Emily: I remember that, too. So why didn't you?
[15:46] Jesus: It wasn't time yet.
[15:50] Emily: What does that mean?"
[15:51] Jesus: You're a creative person, right? You like to paint, don't you? Think of God's plan like a painting. Up close, each brushstroke might seem erratic or even chaotic. And it's easy to wonder if there's any meaning to it at all. But step back and you'll see this grand masterpiece. Every stroke, every color coming together to form a design more beautiful than you could have ever imagined."
This analogy serves to comfort Emily, encouraging her to trust in a higher purpose despite current chaos.
Amidst the spiritual discussions, medical professionals uncover a critical discovery that changes Emily's prognosis. Dr. Miller reveals the presence of an undetected aneurysm:
"[02:19] Dr. Miller: Yes. We need to act immediately. We'll perform a craniotomy to remove the mass and relieve the pressure. And we're going to do everything we can."
Further complications arise when an aneurysm is discovered during surgery:
"[09:37] Mrs. Harper: What do you mean?
[09:38] Dr. Miller: During the procedure, we discovered an aneurysm.
[09:42] Mrs. Harper: An aneurysm?
[09:44] Dr. Miller: Yes. Tucked away in a spot we wouldn't normally have seen. Unless..."
Dr. Miller admits to an unexplainable intuition guiding his surgical approach, hinting at possible divine intervention:
"[10:51] Dr. Miller: I'm saying I don't have a medical explanation for why I chose to go in the way I did. And I don't know why I felt like I had to check that specific area, but I'm glad I did."
This revelation blurs the lines between medical expertise and miraculous occurrences, adding depth to the episode's exploration of faith and science.
In a poignant moment, a figure identified as the Kidnapped Caller offers a heartfelt prayer for Dr. Miller and the medical team:
"[13:03] Kidnapped Caller: Dr. Miller, could. Could I pray for you?
[13:06] Dr. Miller: You guys are free to pray as much as you like. There is a chapel on the fourth floor if you'd like to go there.
[13:19] Kidnapped Caller: Yeah. You're caring a lot. Can I pray for you? [Prays] Amen."
This act of faith further intertwines the personal struggles of the characters with their spiritual beliefs, emphasizing the theme of divine support during crises.
As Emily grapples with her dual existence between life and a metaphysical realm, Jesus reassures her of a greater purpose and the importance of trust:
"[18:30] Jesus: I do. Just as a painter uses each brushstroke to build the final masterpiece, every experience is necessary, even if you only see a jumble of colors right now, trust that there's a greater vision at work."
Emily cautiously begins to embrace this assurance, signaling a turning point in her spiritual journey:
"[19:57] Emily: I'll try my best to trust that promise. If you can see the whole painting, then I guess I should trust you."
A Still, Beating Hope masterfully balances the immediacy of medical emergencies with the introspective depth of spiritual dialogues. Through Emily's interactions with Jesus and the unfolding medical drama, the episode invites listeners to reflect on the intersection of faith, purpose, and the mysteries of life. The integration of notable quotes with precise timestamps enhances the narrative's impact, making it an unforgettable installment in the I Witness series.
