And of course, the Texas Longhorns were the final team to go, so we kind of got to get a little bit of a taste of LSU, Mr. State, Arkansas before them. But big news, big picture for the Longhorns was, I think, Steve Sarkisian's mood. Ian, as you pointed out a little bit how just kind of confident he felt when talking about his team. And a lot of his, you know, syntax and the way he was speaking about his Longhorns going to 2026.

Yeah, I think Cirque is generally pretty genuine fourth, right. Kind of guy. But the Cirque we've seen this offseason and at this meeting is. Has been.

And I think the biggest moment we felt that with was when asked about Parker Livingston in that electronic kind of the side room there. What was that moment like?

I mean, it was great because I think most of the room felt he was joking and he was expecting a laugh. But there was that brief, minor half second where it's like, does he really mean that? As much of him really cool from 6R, Ken just felt it was tough. Like a guy who's confident, involved.

Yeah. For those who didn't see it, Parker Livingston, he was asked one of the last questions of the presser that. That bit, and he was talking, and it was a little more tighter and concise of a group, and they asked about, you know, playing against him at the Red River Rivalry, and he goes, I want to. I want to beat his ass. Like, I want to kick his ass. I think is what he said. Obviously expanded on it. Like, you know, we'll shake hands after the game. We'll be cordial. But, you know, it's about winning that game and it's about beating the Sooners. And that's just the kind of things that we maybe haven't really been hearing a lot these past few years, Ian, and talking about this Texas Longhorn team. But moving over to some of the players, what do you think that confidence showed? And with what players do you think you heard that much confidence that was being shown from Sark and on the players there?

They all seem pretty comfortable in their shoes. Colin Simmons seems like he Feels ready to unleash something. I don't think that's a big surprise. He's been good immediately. As soon as he got to 40 acres, Goosby was confident. Gooseb talked about how he feels like he's growing into his frame more. He's bigger, he's stronger, he looks. They all look terrific. I didn't see the emissaries from every team, but Texas guys were very impressive because it's like 64 orange, 67 Trevor, however tall Simmons is, crazy athlete. He is Simmons and Simmons looks ready for NFL with his body. And they, they all sound well Cord.

We were debating this in the inside Texas group chat, but you know, has Texas or how many other teams will put out a better top three players than Arch, Manning, Collins and Sturdy. Just kind of goes to show the talent that's on this team that those little players that can represent.

I mean, yeah, you're talking about three sure fire first round picks, right? Depending on where they get three potential top 15 picks. Just really impressive to hear them speak. Obviously Texas does a lot of woodwork for their athletes, social media, media training and you know, they put that on the SP today. But just from a a talent perspective, I mean Texas definitely had that in spades with the three representatives. I say Trevor Goosby was very comfortable and confident talking about a lot of Texas transfers. He talked a lot about Laura Seymour, like Melani, how he immediately become really, really good friends with him. Talk a little bit about what Hollywood, Hollywood, Smothers and Brown right in the running back room. Sam Cohen, of course, a little tidbit there. But he seems very confident that this is a close knit group. I feel like the culture of this group is a little bit tighter maybe going into this season than it was last year. And of course you worry about that with transfers coming in. So good to hear Trevor talk about

that a little bit.

Yeah. Ian, I feel like we heard a lot today of both those two transfer running backs and also Cam Coleman. Just speak on what you heard about some of these. Whether it be from Stark or the players that those main three weapons that they added in the Portland port, they'll be.

They have plans. Yeah, Sark feels great about it. Sounds like you asked him about transfers.

Yeah.

Your question that you actually gave him was a little lighter than the one you had planned. It's like, hey, used to get transfers, these like Alabama cast offs that didn't turn out too much and then now it feels like the transfers are really landing and hitting. It's like how did you. How y have Y' all ever gotten better at making transfers? Such a short process. And he was like, I think we've learned from experience. And also, we just got lucky.

Yeah, he kept that one down.

We got really lucky. Everybody that we brought in this year are dudes that are awesome. Right. Mindset fitting in well, I think obviously their talent is translating on the field. You're happy with how they look as players. So they seemed. They seemed very.

Yeah, yeah, that is. That's a great way to put it. And I think when I posed the question, I mentioned Rasheed Biles and Hollywood Smothers, because those feel like the two where with our reports on Inside Texas and just what we're hearing, like these are the kind of guys who are stepping up as leaders in their room and even across the team. And Texas was lucky. They get to send three recruits to this, whether it be four years with Manning, three with Simmons. But we're talking about a transfer class that you just go down the line like Ciani, some others, Brown, Coleman, of course, Biles, Masco. It just seems like it's hit after hit after hit. For me, I think that's part of why the confidence is so much higher, because there's been so much discussion between all these coaches about how the transfer portal impacts teams. But this feels like one of the best classes we've seen or heard them talk about.

Yeah, I mean, like Ian said, it feels like everybody might be able to help their team, which maybe also force you from a death perspective and pushing the guys in front of him. But obviously Will Mascara went ahead of cornerback. You know what Cam Coleman's capable of. You've seen the backs in action in other places.

You think it's going to work well

in this D. Sarkeesian offense. So, of course, at the end of every season, you're going to have holes, you know, holes in your roster. Each coach, college football, high school, whatever, they're going to go out and try to fill those holes. They're going to try to make that roster more whole, more complete. Hard to find a culture roster out there that did a better job in Texas over the course of the last season.

Yeah, let's narrow down to Arch Manning specifically here. Ian felt the pain that Joe and I have had to feel for the last year covering Arch Manning, where you ask a great question and you get a little bit of a coach speak response, a very, well, immediate train player. But Ian, just overall, from what you heard from Archmaining when he was talking either kind of the smaller scrums or just the overall group. How did you feel like he presented himself? What was he mainly focusing on when asked about last season and in the season?

[Host 2 (Inside Texas - possibly Ian)]

No, he's. His answers are completely useless. He's Bill Belichick. Everything he says is designed to deflect the question and make his answer as uninteresting and unlikely to create a media storm as possible. I rarely heard much genuine from him in his answer questions. So is you know I'm excited to do better. It's all about the team. It's not about me.

He's big on the I love having him on my team.

Yeah.

Coleman specifically we're excited for this opportunity. He is a true master. Yeah I've seen other guys that are pretty good at that. You can catch him sometimes if you just find the right bigger to get him to kind of open up a little bit arch his protection. If he had that kind of protection last year. Texas Joe Moore Award.

Yeah they did catch him once on a question about just like when was he having fun last year and he mentioned he just kind of said when we started winning was that was that was the one little quip we got. That's pretty funny.

There's some self deprecation. Cord, what did you feel like when he was was speaking about last season? He he noted the most he had to improve on or at least that he learned from last year.

You know, I mean I like how candid it is. He was very upfront about the struggles in the Ohio State games early season struggles. You know to me it's just like kind of what he was talking about with Sark more comfortable in this moment than he was last year. Again, hard to tell how that's going to translate for me it is to the college football field but just feels like a much more prepared guy to get in there and battle that. Obviously he learned a lot for the first time of that season and then Texas has done a really, really good job of putting the pieces around him that are in fall should actually make his job a lot easier. And so sure maybe that takes a little bit of weight off his off

his shoulders as well.

He feels a little less pressure.

Well they added five different potential starters on offense. Maybe in six were going to help him do that. Steve Sarkeesian did say, you know 99% of people when given kind of the media attention and all the what was said about him probably would have crumbled and Archvania just kind of kept rolling with the punches and we saw that to end the year 20 touchdowns to what? Two interceptions, seven and one record end of season. Let's talk about Sark a little bit more and even some big news out of Texas. Obviously we learned about the TRO with Cole Hudson, that he's now eligible to play some football even though he's graduated and he's technically on a fifth year that with five for five wouldn't have been awarded either way. As it stands, sounds like Cole Hudson can be with the team. But really the big news is Ian, which dropped. We got a little spoiled for Sarcasian, but dropped during media days as John Meredith, the number one cornerback in the class of 2027, has reclassified to the class of 2026, will be playing football in Austin this fall. What does it mean to get a guy like Meredith on the campus, Ian? Something that we really didn't have much on our radar, but just a pretty giant addition, it feels like, to an already really good 26 class.

Yeah, I don't think we even really have much time to digest like what kind of impact he'll have on this coming season. I think for Texas he was ineligible by UIL rules to play a senior year, so he's able to recover that lost year and still be able to play football. So that's a huge win for him. Sark said he just turned 18, so he is the right, actually the right age to be coming in as a freshman age. You're not super worried about getting them too young. Feels like a big win for Meredith. It's like, yeah to the NFL that much faster. Don't lose a year with the UIL in a way that matters. And then we'll see Texas. We know Texas will have holes and openings at quarterback future seasons. I assume that at the very least this is going to help him compete for a starting job in 2027.

And have like an amazing chance. I think we already thought he would probably have a decent chance to start as a freshman. Now as a sophomore in 27, it feels like almost a block.

Well, now he's not sitting on his butt either hoping that a team comes to get him, whether it be like an academy or just hoping that he can play some football. Now he's at least going to practice. And Cord, I think this is one of the big benefits of five for five that we're already seeing in college basketball with some of these international players that are coming in knowing Marcus Spears as well for Texas that they're going to play two years.

You know, Meredith's not going to lose any eligibility realistically from this. If he was going to play five years in college football, it probably wouldn't end up being all five in Texas anyway. So the Longhorns get that. They also it feels like it works well with some of the news we've

heard of this offseason.

Kobe Black moving to safety. Now when you look at this depth chart, it kind of feels like, you know, Sark pointed it out. Like Meredith, it's, it's up to him with how fast things go. But this could be someone you see getting some maybe late season snaps if, if either injury happens or Texas is just playing that well.

Yeah, it's well said. And again, John Merritt is so good. He was never going to be a five to five player. Yeah, I don't think you see him in the college of race for that long. I do think it's a win win for both John Meredith and for Texas. For Texas, you get John Meredith on campus, you get them ingrained in your system, you learn culture and help him do things. For John Meredith, it's, you know, hey, like you just said, guys, you're not sitting around, maybe you have to go to academy or wherever. You're just not getting the same type of football reps that you're going to be Getting at the 6A Texas high school Football League. So I think it's a big win for both. Colin Simmons had the comment that, you know, he hopes that, you know, Jack comes in obviously coming in a little bit late, but just have patience with himself, you know, because his time is indeed coming. And so yeah, maybe by late time, late season, it's, it's a pretty stacked cornerback room. There's a lot of competition there. But John Merritt is John Merritt, man, that's a pretty long, talented young man. Wouldn't be shocked to see him late in the season.

Let's talk about Will Muschamp and. And that defense, because we already talked about it with John Meredith. It felt like, you know, you asked, I believe, Colin Simmons, what's different for him? And he kind of paused for 20 seconds and said, oh, nothing's different, but obviously there's something different. And talking about. Obviously. But talk a little bit about what Sark said because I think he had some of the best insights of what actually changes Wilma's champ around.

Sark is very excited about Wilma. Yeah, I think he wanted Sark. Sark wanted must champ all along. We actually kind of know that he wanted must champ all along as, like, his number one target when he came to Texas. I kind of wonder if he was going to hire must champion when Muschamp was ready, regardless of what else was going on around Texas. And defensive coordinator, he loves the language, the system, because Muschamp's from the Saban School and Sark really appreciates that. He loves Muschamp's aggression. Challenging offenses with more pressure early to create havoc on early downs is something this highlighted as well as challenging routes earlier, playing up tighter on receivers. That's not something that PK did with much consistency. And obviously things worked great with Piquet, But I think Sark feels more comfortable now with the philosophy on the defense and also with having a guy there that you trusts to be in charge so he can focus on the offense. I'd be curious exactly how much time he gained. Yeah, like, how much time was he really giving the defense and how much did he just gain by acquiring the coaching choices?

Yep. And I will say, like we joked about Colin Simmons, how long it took him to answer yours, but he did eventually kind of go into what it means and that aggressiveness is right on point like that. That was the number one thing he mentioned, was that they're playing a little bit harder to get towards. Towards the ball and get there quicker. And I think the speed of the defense is going to show before. We just saw the rosters get unveiled recently. It's like Lance Jackson is up 20 pounds, you know, Missoulo, and he's up 12 pounds or something around there. Just from what you've heard between like the roster drop and Sarkeesian and everyone that's talked recently, are there guys that you, you think are really going to shine in this Wilmot check defense that we really need to get our radar on right now?

Yeah, I fully expect there to be a name or two that you know, even us in inside Texas might not be expected because I think they're going to be challenged in a different way. I think that obviously the scheme change, you know, presents new opportunities for different guys because everything, everyone can do different things. So I mean again at one point or one comment I want to make about Wilmot's champion and comments made here today, Colin Simmons was very, very serious when talking about Wilma's champ. You can tell that there is a fondness that they're the closest mayor and and you know he said hey, he wants me to be me, he wants me to be myself, he wants me to go have fun. And he's very serious looking side saying Will Muschamp is a player's coach. And that's just to go back and make the point of. We've been referencing the relationship building from Will Mustamp to his players on and off the field. And the sense that I got man is that you know, Trevor Goose said it as well. You know, the entire team feels his presence, he feels his energy. And I think Sark is are saying really it's kind of missing that and lacking that on the sideline and this is a huge boost in that regard.

What did, what did Simmons tell you about a player on the back end that expect big things from.

So you know, Colin Simmons was asked about Jelani McDonald and maybe not getting the, the draft. Love that some thought he might have gotten going into the last offseason, last draft cycle. Well, you know Colin feels that John is going to show it very, very quick. He's to going said as soon as they turn on the tape and they go back and turn on his past tape, they'll realize, oh we should have been on this guy.

We'll just say like I said it.

Colin said John is a, he's a dog, he's a goon and he's going to come down and hit some stuff. We'll say it like that. So that, that got a few, a few laughs Again, Colin Simmons is always a guy you want to pay a lot of attention to when he's got a microphone or he's on podium.

Yeah, he already got us demonetized and talking about Parker Livingston. I Will say one last thing. This wasn't going to be a headliner of ss. You did his. But a lot of KJ Lacy talk. And that kind of reminded me with what you were saying because Sark did kind of mention that there's, there's a little bit of Bryce Young in K.J. lacy. Right. It's his maneuverability, shorter stature, players with really good arm, lively feet, ability to maneuver in the pocket. And so this is someone Texas is really excited about. Ian, you were there for this. Trevor Goosby is really excited about K.J. lacy.

Yeah. He said, he compared, he said he's electric, his movement went out of the pocket. Compared it to Bryce Young. Also compared it to Lamar Jackson, which I feel like is aggressive.

It is frosty, at least.

I think Lamar Jackson is literally the quickest quarterback I've ever seen in my entire life. So that's a, it's a lofty comparison to make a better view. Well, I mean, he's like, he said Lacey can do all these things. He's like, hey, he can sling that

pit, throw the ball, something like that.

I've been very high on KJ Liski for a long time. I, I, I'm buying the KJ hype. I, I believe that there are special things. Eventually when he does hit the field in Austin again, a lot of people obviously talking about our king and a lot of people talking about diabellum, rightfully so. But don't forget about kj. I think Trevor did a good job today with making sure he has some Texas fans don't.

Yeah, a lot of also kind of just general comments from Sark about the state of the game, but mostly things we've heard throughout the spring and the fall. And I'm trying to think if there's anything I'm missing that you guys can think of a player or know. But if not, I think that's kind of what we got from SCC media days.

He did mention they have culture.

Yes.

Activities designed to build team building stuff. He said that last year they got that going in the summer and he felt like it was too late. And so they started it in February. This year, the team bond and connection

is a lot better.

You can tell this off season has been miles better than last offseason. In general, I think Sark's been able to give it a lot more energy and attention than last year. And then he had some comments about, you know, he kind of reluctantly rehashed the deal about, you know, if we hadn't played Ohio State, we played Jones junior high.

I think that's what he said.

[Host 2 (Inside Texas - possibly Ian)]

Yeah, then we would have been 10, 2 and we would have been in the playoffs. And he's like, we got so much value out of beating Michigan and beating Alabama and those wins got us into the playoffs or improved our seating and if we beaten Ohio State, it would have done the same. So he's like, we really want to meet challenges because you can grow from that. But then he's like within the bottom line. If we're evaluating teams just by win loss records and not by strength of schedule, what how can you not factor them in?

There's a lot of talk about the selection process throughout this week and not just from Sarkeesian or Texas media. It was all throughout college bowling. Kiffin touched on it earlier this morning, in fact, and so curious to see how it comes in or it shakes out as far as that regard because a lot of value being placed on wins and losses. And that was kind of what Sark said. You know, not all wins and not all losses are the same. Going to Georgia and losing at Georgia or having Georgia at home, you know, that's those are two completely different games. And so we'll see. Very interesting. Now's the time for all the coaches to talk about it and they got it in.
