Cord, Tampa was an eventful place for you between all the different flag football and tackle football things you had to absorb at SEC media days. Lots to talk about Arch Manning. Understandably so. Lots of talk about Colin Simmons, understandably so. There was a third Longhorn there and that was Trevor Goosby. This is someone that you wrote about on Sunday. I saw Paul touched on him a little bit earlier today as well. And just that, hey, you know, these Texas may have brought three first round picks to SEC media days and one of them in Goosby isn't really getting as much attention as the other two should have.

That's well said, man. And again, that's kind of why I decided to write about Goosebie the way that I did. Just because he, he felt so much more comfortable. I feel like on the podium he was, he just said more than the other guys. You know what I mean? We know that Arch is going to be a little bit more guarded. Colin was just a little bit more short in his answers. Not that he didn't say a lot, just a little bit shorter. Goosebie let it fly, man. He had a lot to say. Whether it be about, you know, the physicality and what they're working on in the offensive line with the off season, whether it's transfers or you get into the. In the basketball side of things.

Joe, let's talk a little bit about the physicality because I think there's a lot of accusations that Steve Sarkeesian runs a finesse offense. He doesn't believe that. He thinks that his offense requires physicality, especially in the run game. We didn't see that enough last year. And you got to talk to him about what maybe increased physicality looks like for this offensive line.

Yeah, that's a big thing that I wanted to ask him. That was the first question I got to ask him was what have they done in the off season to maybe get a little bit either stronger at the point of attack, nastier at the point of attack or what are they really emphasizing drill wise or technique wise or if there was anything thing. And he had to say it surprised me a little bit and just said it was a mental thing he thought in his opinion, just continuing to push and having that mindset of driving guys further down the field. He did say that this O line unit he thought was a lot more cohesive and a lot closer together than maybe a year ago. And so he said that, you know, he thinks that will go into performing better and playing more together as a unit and not so much as individuals as you know, he saw sometimes when he turned on the tape. So I thought that was a really interesting, you know, tidbit. I thought there might be a few drills or something that he was going to throw in. You know, we talk about working on penalties and things like that. Of course we know that they're, you know, they are doing some things to put an emphasis on improving in that regard. But as far as the physicality, you know, he really just talked about it being a mental thing and just working more together as one unit.

Yeah. And that's one of those things where we've talked about how there was just really not a whole lot of experience on that offensive line entering last year. They've gained it now, but there's a lot of thinking that has to go on for these guys. Like they're thinking instead of just doing. And I think we'll see some physicality come that way. Cohesiveness. Yeah, that just comes with reps. You got to hope that Texas has that. And you know, a lot of these guys are just older and that's what Goosby is too. I think Paul noted in, in the way he wrote things. Like he's only started 15 games. He's still just, you know, he could have been a draft eligible red shirt sophomore. He's coming into his red shirt junior year. Like he's not just some. He is more veteran but he's not just like this super experienced 5th year guy with 30 games under his belt. Like he's someone who's got a little bit of work to do still to develop as this, that classic as seen on TV clock goes off in the background. But he's just someone that he's still coming into the college game in a way that you know what like he is. Was ahead of a lot of different guys in his development, still has room to develop, is still pretty good already as a Result, you got to ask a little bit too, about just some of the transfers, because for the first time, as everybody knows, Kyle Floyd went to the transfer portal during the off season for offensive lineman Melvin Siani, Dylan Sikorski, Jonte Newman, Lawrence Seymour. What was some of the feedback you got on some of those guys?

Yeah, I was really impressed with his answer there because. And it kind of talks like what? You know, we talked about the cohesiveness and how that comes with reps, and that's the one concern you might have about this group. Right. You're not going to have a ton of reps, even with Brandon Baker coming back. He's playing a new position. Right. So Melvin Siani, of course, sliding into right tackle, still working on figuring out left guard. How does that all look? Because there's not a lot of those no snaps with all that unit together. So he said that Melvin and Lawrence are two of his best friends, you know, and I thought I was okay. That's. That's material in Trevor's part. Take these guys under their wings. Show them out how they do things. Show the expectations of Kyle Flood and just how that offensive line unit works. Love to hear that out of him. And again, he said that, you know, he threw course exam in there as well as far as just he thought the three of them are really making that O line unit closer. And he said that they've all done a good job at, you know, just really helping that group stay together as far as working together as a unit, not necessarily just as individuals. And so he'd love to hear that at him. He said that Lawrence, you know, was a tenacious and really athletic running blocker, pass blocker. Said he was an all, you know, an all American for a reason. Said that, you know, Melvin's, you know, got really good feet. Said it's really athletic as well. You know, I was a little bit, of course, a little bit. All the posters on Inside Texas slightly concerned when Lawrence Seymour's way come out at 312 of the updated rosters. But then, you know, you got Trevor Goosey on stage telling you that he's tenacious. You know, I. I like that I'm going to trust what Goose seeing out there. And so music to our ears, of course, in regards to the transfers and just how they're all kind of blending

Speaking of transfers, he talked about the running backs too as well. What did you hear from Goosby when it came to those guys?

Yeah, he said they bring explosiveness, you know, and that's something we talked about plenty of on Inside Texas, needing more juice in the backfield.

More home run hitting potential. He said they pretty much bring exactly that. He said that they both, you know, bring different kind of skill sets but decided what they can do in in game situations.

Last but not least, we always focus on the football. But you know, these guys are humans and this is also SEC Media Days is a giant platform for a lot of these guys. You get put in front of so many different media members, whether it's local, whether it's national. I know it's so bad sometimes some of the questions and some of the people there, not from our Texas and inside Texas contingent. But, but Trevor talk, got to talk about a couple different things that are very near and dear to his heart. The first one, he was seen wearing a very large patch on his suit every 15 minutes. Can you talk a little bit about what he was promoting and trying to raise awareness for with that thing on his lapel?

Yeah, I like that. Abby Miller asked him about that really early because I mean it was, it was a big heart and it was, it was going to be asked about really soon. But the pen said every 15 minutes with just every 15 minutes there's a baby born in the world with congenitive heart, congenitive heart defect. And, and that is something that can, you know, bother to varying degrees throughout life. But for Trevor, in his instance, you know, he was 16 years old and having heart surgery, you know, and he just wanted to, you know, raise awareness for that because he said it did, you know, provide or bring up Some difficulties in his life, you know, as a teenager as he's trying to obviously do things on the football field, in the classroom, go out and live his everyday life. And so I, I love that again, you know, you saw, you know, arch raising awareness for a different cause. So, you know, love the headspace that these Texas athletes are in, man. You know, using their platforms.

Not only do they use their platforms, there's also just good relationships among everybody in the athletic department. It's pretty easy with Goosby considering his little brother Austin going to be a significant contributor for Sean Miller this season as a freshman. But he also talked about the latest addition to the Longhorns and five star Marcus Spears Jr.

I was a little surprised how much basketball was talked about from, from Goosby, but you know, there's a plethora of questions, of course, rightfully so, about Austin joining a little bit of, about, hey, you know, how was the one on one matchups? How excited are you to have him on campus and would there be any basketball played? And he did say he's very excited to have Austin, you know, right down the road, eight minutes. He's like, you know, anytime he said he thinks that they're going to be about like an eight minute drive away, I think is what he was referencing. He's like, anytime we want to have a talk, we can go right down the road and be with one another. He was like, that's, that's going to be perfect, man. He was like, just like we could do, you know, back home and we had many, you know, real talks about life and so that was cool. But yeah, he was asked about Marcus Spears and if he had, you know, there's connection with the spirits, family and the goose, obviously, and if there was any type of recruitment going on from, from Trevor and he kind of looked to the side with a smile, said, you could say that, you know, I think he knows who did the bulk of the recruiting in that commitment. So again, credit to the Texas staff and just the overall job. Deshaun was still done. Very impressive. So, yeah, it was fun to talk a little bit about basketball because you could tell, I mean, Trevor's face lit up, man. He loves the sport and you can tell he's, he's going to be a big fan of the program, clearly, because the brother's a part of it, but just he loves the game.

And as, as our guy Justin Wells will tell you, Trevor Goosby did some good stuff on the basketball court. Has some good videos of him showing off the footwork, showing off the dunk technique. So basketball runs a little bit in that family. I think Austin's got a little bit more soft skill, but Trevor ready to show that aggression and physicality.
