Then we had Cord and Ian and Evan on location at SEC media days. All that stuff's going to be covered. Was covered on Inside Texas. We're going to be analyzing it further. But you had some team info yesterday and we get some team info from Sark every now and then. But you had some team info about a depth chart on both sides of the ball. Let's start with the defense. Let's go over some of the positions closer to the line of scrimmage. That's defensive end and that's the Jack position. Defensive end is where Lance Jackson is, which hey, we used to have that little pneumatic reminder for Jack. Lance Jackson don't have that anymore. But Lance Jackson's not the only one factoring in at that defensive end position.

Yeah, basically he's a 1A with Xena Umio Zulu. I don't know if you saw the latest depth chart but. Or not depth chart but roster. Xena is over 270 pounds now. I think they had him at 272. Obviously Lance has bulked up some. He came in as an already big guy. He's. He was 270 in high school. Got down to 255 at Texas. But he's back up to 275 and it's looking right. They want that size to have a little more beef on it than it had before because they do slide down and play different fits on the defensive line. So they're a 1A 1B and that shows up later. I. I talked about how they they three defensive packages. Basically base nickel and their nickel rabbits. Those two guys play together. At times those two guys are interchangeable and I just basically figure consider Xena a quasi starter. Over on the other side you've got Colin Simmons obviously and that is the Jack. Now he's going to play. He's on all three packages of course. But you know there's intrigue behind them. You know, we kind of thought that Smith Arogbo would be the starter. Right now it looks like Richard Wesley, the true freshman five star has a very good chance to play a lot. But. But keep in mind that some of these place positions are a little ambiguous. If they get into certain sub packages and they're going to have multiple guys on at the same time, they can rush the passer. You could see Richard Wesley on with Colin Simmons. You could see Brad Spence out there. You could see Smith Aragos. They're very deep, very talented at this position. And Even the young guys are looking good. Jamarion Carlton, we're not going to hear a whole lot about him this year, but he's showing a lot of signs. And again, Smith Aruguo is still a

very young player moving to some of the off ball linebacker spots. Brad Spence is the starter at that Sam position when they're in base defense. But he also figures in on the depth chart at both Mike and Will. But there's a little bit of a surprising name I think. Maybe not surprising, but there's a, there's a name at the top of the depth chart at Mike that might take some fans by surprise. Maybe somehow. Maybe it is a surprise.

Yeah, I think a couple people thought I would have Ty Anthony at starting mic, but I'm just going by what they, what the, you know, the facts are on the ground right now. Justin Crier is the starting mic at least when they do team walkthroughs and it's been that way since the spring. Obviously Ty miss spring so that, that plays a part. He hasn't been in pad since the bowl game. You got to be out there and earn the spot. And Justin Car has done well since his time since he got to Texas and I think he's surprised some with his athleticism. But at the same time keep in mind that they can insulate him within the defense to where he can just focus on run fits and playing in the box. And also those guys are kind of interchangeable. If they want more of a past defender out there they can easily put Ty Anthony next to Rasheen Biles. But you know, back to Spence, he is the starting Sam. You got Cosio, Paula behind him and true freshman. Brinley Tyler, who we haven't talked about much because he's a very late addition to the class, is also starting his career at Sam. But Spence I put in parentheses in a couple spots kind of where you know, I think he would play above the true freshman. He would play above kind of Cummings at Mike. Cummings is the third team Mike after, you know it's either Ty Anthony or, or Justin Carr will end up being that second teamer. But Spence can play there and Spence could play at Will. Or again you'll have Rashin Biles of course and then Ty Anthony figures there as well. Ty Anthony's gonna, you know it's going to be a three man weave at the position where Ty Anthony could play both spots. Crier can play Mike Boss work both spots. But he's more of a Will and then depth. You're just manufacturing Depth with the versatility of Spence. Spence can also play will. And then you've got the true freshman Tyler Atkinson. And then you know they brought in some emergency press, you know, break glass in case of emergency guys. Marcus Boswell is that Mike. And then Darius Snow, the well traveled Darius Snow is at will.

Understanding that it's going to be Derrick Williams at the boundary spot and Jelani McDonald at the free spot to start things off at safety. But the safeties that were on the FIELD Last year, McDonald and Michael Taft played an exorbitant amount of snaps. Are the guys behind him? Who are the guys behind him and are they maybe in line to see a little bit more action this year?

Yeah, you know, first when I came out with this, Ian texted me and said are you sure it's going to be those guys? You know, know Raptor in the boundary and Jelani in at at field and that's what it is right now. They did cross train both, you know Jelani, they're both, they're both versatile. Jelani can play in the box and, and Derek Williams can play to the field. You know they went back and forth right now I just put with what where they have it right now and you know, like I said, they're both versatile. Both can play either one. So that, that one might still be up in there. But those are the starters behind him. You got Jordan Johnson, Rebel, who makes a lot of sense in the boundary. The boundary guy fits the run a lot. And then you got Kobe Black who you know, field obviously that's. You got to have more coverage skills in the field. That makes a lot of sense for the former corner. Everybody asked about Jonah Williams with good reason. Obviously he's ultra talented. There's nobody more talented. There's. There's not many guys more talented on the entire roster than Jonah and. But he has not been in pads in a while and you know, he knows what to do in the classroom but he's got to take it to the field, he's got to play quick and he's got to do it in pads for a while. I do think he's a player that we're going to see more of as the season wears on. But as far as immediate impact and non conference, I don't really have that.

I did notice Jonathan Cunningham there at the end and you know he's kind of. He was recruited as a linebacker. He always seemed a little bit light. What's with the Idea of being there at safety or is that just his spot in special teams is actually his main priority?

Well, special team I am going to do a post that covers more special teams that you know I mentioned kick returner, punt returner in the comments. I'm going to break down special teams because you know that's it's been an up and down position in Jeff Banks time. Cunningham it was kind of like the Jelani McDonald recruitment. Like you know we think he can grow into a linebacker but if he doesn't he could play safety and obviously he brings a lot lots of special teams physical, fast linebacker mentality. Even if he doesn't grow into a linebacker they like him quite a bit. It's just you know Jelani and Derek are going to take up a lot of oxygen in the room and then you got Jordan Johnson, Rebel who's, who's, you know he's, he's put his time into the program. He's done well on special teams so he's getting his shot. And then Kobe has tremendous upside for the position. Kobe could have been a five star safety out of high school had he played the position. So he's got, there's a bit of a logjam ahead of Cunningham but he does have a bright future. Terry Davis has a bright future. He's a true freshman. Plenty athletic, excellent ball skills. Was a very productive wide receiver. Kind of you know kind of like if Kobe Black had played played safety you might have looked like Torre Davis in high school. Torres going to be a really good player. Flew under the radar because they added him late and he played in Colorado. But there's a lot of zealous man don't want to forget zealous6 he right now he's third team with Jonah you know he reclassified that last year was just a total was 100 red shirt year the whole way he's, he's known for his intelligence. He's got good size and so we'll see. So there's plenty of options in the pipeline. We'll have more clarity on the younger guys even in August but later into the season. But right now the first four seem pretty cemented. Jonah Williams is the X factor though.

Let's flip on over to the offense and we know what's going on at quarterback, so let's go to the guys who'll be standing by. Arch Manning at running back. And I wrote about running back yesterday. Rayleigh Brown was on third and Longhorn talked about how his relationship with Sark was a big reason why he came to Texas, but also the style of runs that they're going to probably be using. A lot of a gap out, wide zone, that type of thing. That's why the two names at the top are no surprise. And Rayleigh Brown and Hollywood Smothers. How are they splitting things up and then who's right behind them?

Yeah, he mentioned duo and outside zone, which I think anybody that followed Texas football knew that they were going to do that. We've, we've mentioned that throughout the spring, but that's perfect for what the personnel has, both the offensive line and the running backs. It fits well. I, I think they're going to be in about a 50, 50 timeshare, but they're not going to get 50, 50 of the carries. We'll get to that in a second. I think they're going to split pretty evenly, maybe 40, 40, who knows? Relik even said he's probably going to get more receptions and Hollywood's, you know, probably going to get more carry. That, that makes a lot of sense. Relik has got really good hands. He can be a slot receiver out, you know, once he has the ball in his hands in open space. Very dangerous player in space. Obviously outside zone suits him well, but it also fits Hollywood. I think they are going to be in a bit of a timeshare pretty evenly. I gave the slight nod on the depth chart to Hollywood just because he's taken on more of a leadership role. That's not to say Relique hasn't done it. It says a lot that, that Sark put him on the mic, let him go on third and Longhorn, you know that those things get cleared with the, with the coaching staff. But yeah, I think, I think Hollywood's going to get maybe the more of the traditional carries and then release going to get third down. And he's also going to get his carries, too. He does run the ball harder than people realize. But they're going to be in a good timeshare. And then Derek Cooper, he's kind of the X factor there. I expect him to get more carries as the season wears on, though. He is going to get very early carries. I. He's going to get carries against Ohio State, but he brings a little bit different element. Power running, you know, can really build up power with velocity downhill. Not somebody you want to tackle on the second level, that sort of guy, but also a big playmaker overall. This. This position is extremely upgraded over last year. And then they got some gadget guys to. Everybody asked about Michael Terry, he's. Yeah, I haven't really heard of a clarified role for him yet. I don't have super big expectations for him right now. They do like him big, big, fast, physical. But Ryan Niblett is basically a 21 personnel weapon. I wouldn't even, you know, it's not really a running back. He's not really a wide receiver. I think even on the. On the roster they have him at both wide receiver and running back. That's what I was told as well. So I, you know, he's kind of in his own little category. 21 personnel Weapon lines up the receiver. Ryan lines up at running back.

Last but not least as we go to the offensive line. And that's a place that's obviously drawn a lot of attention over the course of the off season. A place that Texas addressed in the transfer portal. There's some, you know, guys who have spots on this offensive line. Trevor Goosby's playing left tackle, Conor Robertson's playing center. But what else is going on, especially as it pertains to some of the older players and some of the guys who transferred into the program.

Yeah, I want people to sign up for inside Texas, but I can't leave y' all hanging on a Friday morning and not talk about offensive line. You know, I think the first five are pretty solidified. It's, you know, Goosebie, Seymour, Robertson, Baker and Siani. You know, it's all juniors and seniors. That's what you like. You like experience. They got a lot of snaps under their belt. They fit really well with. They've got really good pass. They should be good at pass protection. Some of that's cohesion. Right? You're going to have to make sure they're all on the same page, going to get some help from running backs, get some help from tight ends. It's all got to work together. But on, in theory, they should be really good at pass protection and outside zone. They've Got the athleticism to pull that off. It's not nearly as power based. So I, you know, on paper, that group seems like it's going to be okay. You know, we'll see when they play the better competition in the country, how they look, but, you know, it's gonna be a lot better coming out of the gates than it was last year. I know that.

They got their first five, and then, you know, you're looking for depth. It's easy to manufacture depth if you have versatile players. And, you know, Dylan Sikorski, who's going to get looks at guard and center, kind of helps you across the interior. And then you got Andre Kojo coming back, who helps you at tackle and maybe even guard if he's, if he's, if he's the, you know, if he's the fifth best offensive lineman and, you know, but Melvin Siani's better than him. Maybe they look at him at guard. You know, I'm not sure what's going to happen entirely with him. It's a bit of a mystery with him coming back from injury. But I feel good about their first seven. And then they're, you know, they're looking for a number eight, nine, and they've got options there, but they're younger. Right. So we were just talking about. A bunch of older guys have been in the program a long time or been in college football a while in the case of Siani and Seymour. But Devin Coleman, Jordan Coleman, those guys are really talented. We've been hearing a lot about Devin Coleman at left guard. And then you've got Jackson Christian, who is battling Sikorski to be backup. These are good players. You got Jaden Chapman, who's been in the program a long time. I think depth is going to materialize, but it's still. Players are still competing, jockeying for that position to be relied on in case somebody else goes down. They're in a much better spot. But there's still work to do finding out, you know, who their best, who their best backups are and building cohesion. That's the big, that's the big component going into the season is cohesion. This, this line has no snaps together.

And then there's the Cole Hudson thing. You know, you add him or you have the capability to add him if he retains the eligibility given to him by that temporary restraining order, which appears to be maybe a little bit more temporary than some of the other ones. And, you know, I think there's been some panic. Yeah, panic on the board. Like, oh, why Are they doing this? Why are they doing this? I think it's understandable if it's like, okay, here's your left guard again. But if he's like, you're your OT or your OL8, who's there as a presence, like, that's, that's a good way to find depth too. In addition to the guys you already have.

Yeah, I mean, it would be to me, like adding a player, coach, quality control guy to the room. He can help the young guys with their duties. He can also play if he wins a spot. You know, I, I just don't know how they're gonna allow this because then you would just have players all over the country lining up to come back. Players that weren't drafted just exhausted their eligibility. I, I don't know how it's going to be legal for him to come back. I haven't looked in too much into it. He's. This isn't a sign of desperation from the staff. That's, that's what I know 100%. If you're Cole Hudson, maybe you, you know, you can come back and get another year of college football. Who wouldn't want to do that, right? Especially on a team that's got a chance to make a very serious run. Cole's been through it all. He's been through the entire rebuild. Well, not 5 and 7, but, you know, he was there for 8 and 5 and everything else after that. So, you know, maybe he wants to see it through, but I, I don't know how it's going to be made legal for him to do that just because it's. Man, that opens up a can of worms across the entire country.

I, I don't want to say the end of the cycle, but, you know, we're approaching the, really, the every spot being full when it comes to high profile guys in the 2027 recruiting class. So maybe some new intrigue with cornerback now that John Meredith's in that 2026 class. And of course, we await the last uncommitted top 100 prospect. His decision in Landon Williams.
