We have the major takeaways from Texas's first day of training camp as the Longhorns prepare for another year of Texas football. And we got to break it all down. What's up guys? I'm Matt Long. Welcome to Inside Texas. Before we jump into the video for today, join Inside Texas. Today we are running a 75% off your first year fall camp special. From the time that I'm recording this video in the past hour, there have been three articles uploaded. The writers at Inside Texas are really working their butts off right now. Link is in the description of this video if you're interested in that. But let's jump right into the next order of business that we got to get through. And it's a warning. It's a warning in this article that we're about to break down all this the stuff that we've learned from Texas first day of training camp. There's a lot of language about players looking bigger. Do not be intimidated. Only Texas A and M, Texas State and Oklahoma and any other Texas opponents need to be intimidated. If you're watching this video, you do not have to be intimidated because Inside Texas has reported that the Texas Longhorns this offseason have been lifting heavier and putting an extra emphasis on run aggression. And that emphasis in the weight room is certainly showing off. We're hearing from our insiders that essentially every single position group guys are looking huge. The first off the bus group is going to be hard to pick out because everyone is looking so much bigger. The offseason program has clearly had an effect on this football team and we could not be more excited about that. But let's jump right into some of these nitty gritty updates, starting off with the guy that everyone wants to talk about, the number one star in college football, Arch Manning. How's that quarterback room looking? We got that here coming from Eric Nalin with Inside Texas, who writes K.J. lacy was the most consistent passer in terms of accuracy, he threw with good zip and delivered a couple of beautiful deep balls during routes on air for Arch Manning. When he was on, which was for most of the viewing period, Arch Manning stood above the rest. He completed an effortless pitch and catch with Ryan Wingo that looked exactly how it's supposed to. He connected to all three levels of the field, but did have a couple misses. Diabel was the most erratic, but you can most certainly see the talent when everything comes together. Now, the first name that everyone brings up really when it comes to football is always going to be our starting quarterback. The name that people want to hear about, Arch Manning. He looked like it was his first day of training camp, which it was the Texas Longhorns first day training camp, as it was for a lot of the SEC teams this morning. First day training camp, there's going to be rust. You're going to have to find a way to knock it off. So what we've been looking for with Arch Manning has been have his fundamentals, have his mechanics, I should say, have his mechanics improved, and how much development has taken place over the course of the offseason. Last year, one of the things that we were unhappy with was mostly early in the season, but it was inaccuracy from Arch Manning. So today we saw some inaccuracy. But it can be easily explained away by the fact that it's the first training camp day. People are going to be less ramped up, people are going to be less ready to go. It's not something to be worried about unless it persists all the way into late August, early September when we get close to that first game against Texas State. So not worried about that at all. But it is something that we are reporting. So we just something we're going to keep an eye out for is going to be how much does Archman improve over the course of these next couple weeks. The accuracy wise is what I really want to see. Everyone has their opinions on what Archman is going to do, but just want to see him improve little by little, one step at a time. And we have full confidence that he's going to be able to do that because we, I know what kind of worker Arch Manning is also, you know, when you have the, the family that he has, people are going to make sure that things go according to plan for Arch Manning. But the quarterback room is not just Arch Manning. K.J. lacy, we do just have to give him a quick shout out today because a great day for KJ Lacy. You got to remember the backup quarterback. He's only one play away from becoming very, very, very important. So we got to make sure that there is a backup in place behind Arch Manning. We've seen it before. A couple years ago Arch got some opportunities when Quinn Ewers dealt with some injury slash. Sark wanted to get a little bit of a change of pace there. So the backup quarterback is a much more important position in the game of football than people give it credit for. Love to see KJ having a great day at practice today, but let's jump into our next position here which is going to be the running back room and Derek Cooper is going to be that first, first name that is going to apply to the warning that I sent out earlier. Eric writes that Derek Cooper should be the first guy off the bus and Justin from inside Texas said that he looked like Edgar James. That's high praise. This is a guy that is extremely well built, a running back who is ready to make a difference in only his freshman year for the Texas Longhorns and I would love to see what that looks like. The name that you want to hear about, Hollywood Smothers. You know our insiders didn't get a good look at him so unfortunately don't have a super substantial positive update or really update at all on running back. Hollywood Smothers. The one of the top transfers that the Texas Longhorns brought in. So we're not going to have that. But there is plenty more updates. Derek Cooper looking amazing. Relique Brown reportedly looked quick in space and on returns and also Michael Terry looked good as well during practice today. Now the running back position is something that we have a high level of confidence in the next position that maybe you don't have as much confidence in or really just question marks because you would expect this position to be better than it was last year. But the offensive line for the Texas Longhorns is something that we know has to improve. Last year it came along the way Arch Manning developed. You could see it over the course of the year, got better O line. You could say the same thing. But we can't have another year where you start out and your offensive line isn't cohesive enough, isn't blocking well enough the way the college football committee is going to be judging your full body of work at the end of the year. You can't drop early games. They're not going to give you credit for those games just because they were early. You got to be ready to go right out the gate. And our schedule to doesn't give us any favors in that regard with the Ohio State Buckeyes coming to DKR Stadium in the second the second week of the season. So we have to be ready on that front. And one guy that stood out today was Trevor Goosby, who always stands out. I mean Trevor Goosby, the starting left tackle for Texas, of course, standing at over 6ft 6 inches tall, he's always going to stand out. He looked great today. He was another guy that you could see the off season program really taking place. Overall, Texas's offensive line did look good today. There are going to be a lot of of positional battles going on with with the across the entire offensive line, not including left tackle of course with Goosby. So there are going to be questions to answer and we will get those questions answered as training camp continues to go along with the Texas Longhorns. But one other position that we do need to take a close look at is going to be the tight and

Last year, Jack Enduries, Texas's number one tight end, moving on via the NFL draft to the Cincinnati Bengals. And now. Now the Texas Longhorns will be tasked with replacing him. And fortunately we have an update on that position from Eric Nalin. He writes, Michael Masanis had several easy receptions. I saw Spencer Shannon getting off the bus and he looks good physically, though I I didn't see a reception that stood out. Nick Townsend looked noticeably thicker than he did last week. He made a nice hand catch. Emery Wilson is built like a fire hydrant. He's going to be tough to ha to tackle. He moves like a big Fullback. So there's that more, you know, everybody here is built incredibly strong. Everyone is, you know, taking to that offseason workout that the Texas Longhorns had, increasing, you know, time in the weight room, increasing that intensity. And it's standing out here a guy built like a fire hydrant. I mean, where are we coming up with these descriptive terms? But I love it. You. You love it. If it's your side, you don't want to hear that out of your opponent. And fortunately, that is what we're hearing about the Texas Longhorns going into next season. Football is about big people, moving little people. You, you, spoiler alert. You want to be on the side of the big people. And that's exactly where Texas is going to be. You just got to make sure that you don't overdo it and you don't leave yourself extra exposed to injuries. Not wor. Not super worried about that. So the tight end room is looking. It's going to be a full out competition. Don't know who the starter is going to be, but if we are looking at the Texas tight ends or at least starting tight ends over the past couple of years with looking at gunner helm, Jack Enduries, we got to have confidence that whoever wins that job is going to do a good job with it because the Texas Longhorns are starting a real nice tradition at that position. Next position that we got to jump into here is going to be wide receivers. Eric writes, I didn't see much beyond Ryan Wingo catching everything that he should, plus hauling in a bomb from Arch. Let that be a precursor to Cohen. Brown also had a couple of good receptions. There were too many drops, just as there were a few missed throws. So like we said earlier, some missed throws, you know, wide receivers, a couple drops. This is rust. This is rust. If it pursues, you know, just, you know, copy and paste the same thing we said about the quarterbacks. If it persists, you worry about it. Right now, you're not worried about it. So, wide receivers, hopefully we can get some updates on Cam Coleman pretty soon because that is the name, probably one of the hottest names in the entire transfer portal. So very excited to see what Cam Coleman will be bringing to the table in terms of wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns. Let's jump into the defensive side of the room. And Eric had to shout out Justice Terry, writing that he saw a lot of the defensive tackles in day one and that Justice Terry was the most impressive player that he saw. Whether you were looking at his physique or watching him work through bag drills with outstanding coordination and elite quickness. The dude is going to ball out. Love to hear it. What more could you want? Texas players ready to go. You're ready to hit those drills hard. Work hard. Cannot wait to see what else we're going to get out of these guys. It was hard to establish a depth chart, but it appeared he was working ahead of Murad Watson. The three man weave of Hirokanu, Ian Jefford and Alex January was noticeable. Jefford moved well despite his cantilevered midsection. So on the stream that took place on inside Texas directly after the training camp wrapped up, we decided to put an extra emphasis on how good Alex January looks. There's another name that is sticking out in this defensive tackle room for the Texas Longhorns. Let's finish this off with actually, before he finishes off, one thing that we do have to mention, the name that I know a lot of people are going to be wondering about. Colin Simmons. When it comes to the Texas defense, no name bigger than Colin Simmons. Colin Simmons wasn't wearing a helmet for part of the viewing period, but he did participate in a PAT in pass rush simulations and first step work. So not huge update on Colin Simmons, but we don't really need a huge update on Colin Simmons. We know he's going to ball out in his, you know, in this season. As he did as a freshman. As he did as a sophomore. Colin Simmons is an absolute monster. Let's finish this off with the intel that we have on defensive backs. Eric writes, I mostly watched the safeties during drills. Jonah Williams gained ground on other players even while working through backpedal zigzag drills. You don't expect to see that given his size. Kobe Black's feet were very quick and his hips were loose, almost like a cornerback. Loose hips is the absolute key when you are a defensive back or yeah, specifically a safety. But honestly I'm not. I would like to to wipe that away. Just defensive backs in general. I wouldn't want to be hit by any of these guys, but especially not Jordan Johnson Rubel. He's thickly built with a low center of gravity. Off season increase in in in lifting. There it is again. Good to see Blake Gideon back in charge. Cornerback John Meredith lost his lunch on the field. Excited to see John Meredith, who was one of the top recruits in the class of 2027, reclassified to 2026 because he just could not wait to join the Texas Longhorns in Austin, Texas. Unfortunately, it did. It does seem like he didn't maybe didn't have the the best moment here losing his lunch on the field. Pretty funny. Kate Phillips and Bo Masco displayed the best technique during drill, so a ton of good takeaways here from the the guys from inside Texas. Specifically. You can't drop early games. They're not going to give you credit for those games just because they were early. You got to be ready to go right out the gate. And our schedule to doesn't give us any favors in that regard with the Ohio State Buckeyes coming to DKR Stadium in the second the second week of the season. So we have to be ready on that front. And one guy that stood out today was Trevor Goosby, who always stands out. I mean Trevor Goosby, the starting left tackle for Texas, of course, standing at over 6ft 6 inches tall, he's always going to stand out. He looked great today. He was another guy that you could see the off season program really taking place. Overall, Texas's offensive line did look good today. There are going to be a lot of of positional battles going on with with the across the entire offensive line, not including left tackle of course with Goosby. So there are going to be questions to answer and we will get those questions answered as training camp continues to go along with the Texas Longhorns. But one other position that we do need to take a close look at is going to be the tight and

Last year, Jack Enduries, Texas's number one tight end, moving on via the NFL draft to the Cincinnati Bengals. And now. Now the Texas Longhorns will be tasked with replacing him. And fortunately we have an update on that position from Eric Nalin. He writes, Michael Masanis had several easy receptions. I saw Spencer Shannon getting off the bus and he looks good physically, though I I didn't see a reception that stood out. Nick Townsend looked noticeably thicker than he did last week. He made a nice hand catch. Emery Wilson is built like a fire hydrant. He's going to be tough to ha to tackle. He moves like a big Fullback. So there's that more, you know, everybody here is built incredibly strong. Everyone is, you know, taking to that offseason workout that the Texas Longhorns had, increasing, you know, time in the weight room, increasing that intensity. And it's standing out here a guy built like a fire hydrant. I mean, where are we coming up with these descriptive terms? But I love it. You. You love it. If it's your side, you don't want to hear that out of your opponent. And fortunately, that is what we're hearing about the Texas Longhorns going into next season. Football is about big people, moving little people. You, you, spoiler alert. You want to be on the side of the big people. And that's exactly where Texas is going to be. You just got to make sure that you don't overdo it and you don't leave yourself extra exposed to injuries. Not wor. Not super worried about that. So the tight end room is looking. It's going to be a full out competition. Don't know who the starter is going to be, but if we are looking at the Texas tight ends or at least starting tight ends over the past couple of years with looking at gunner helm, Jack Enduries, we got to have confidence that whoever wins that job is going to do a good job with it because the Texas Longhorns are starting a real nice tradition at that position. Next position that we got to jump into here is going to be wide receivers. Eric writes, I didn't see much beyond Ryan Wingo catching everything that he should, plus hauling in a bomb from Arch. Let that be a precursor to Cohen. Brown also had a couple of good receptions. There were too many drops, just as there were a few missed throws. So like we said earlier, some missed throws, you know, wide receivers, a couple drops. This is rust. This is rust. If it pursues, you know, just, you know, copy and paste the same thing we said about the quarterbacks. If it persists, you worry about it. Right now, you're not worried about it. So, wide receivers, hopefully we can get some updates on Cam Coleman pretty soon because that is the name, probably one of the hottest names in the entire transfer portal. So very excited to see what Cam Coleman will be bringing to the table in terms of wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns. Let's jump into the defensive side of the room. And Eric had to shout out Justice Terry, writing that he saw a lot of the defensive tackles in day one and that Justice Terry was the most impressive player that he saw. Whether you were looking at his physique or watching him work through bag drills with outstanding coordination and elite quickness. The dude is going to ball out. Love to hear it. What more could you want? Texas players ready to go. You're ready to hit those drills hard. Work hard. Cannot wait to see what else we're going to get out of these guys. It was hard to establish a depth chart, but it appeared he was working ahead of Murad Watson. The three man weave of Hirokanu, Ian Jefford and Alex January was noticeable. Jefford moved well despite his cantilevered midsection. So on the stream that took place on inside Texas directly after the training camp wrapped up, we decided to put an extra emphasis on how good Alex January looks. There's another name that is sticking out in this defensive tackle room for the Texas Longhorns. Let's finish this off with actually, before he finishes off, one thing that we do have to mention, the name that I know a lot of people are going to be wondering about. Colin Simmons. When it comes to the Texas defense, no name bigger than Colin Simmons. Colin Simmons wasn't wearing a helmet for part of the viewing period, but he did participate in a PAT in pass rush simulations and first step work. So not huge update on Colin Simmons, but we don't really need a huge update on Colin Simmons. We know he's going to ball out in his, you know, in this season. As he did as a freshman. As he did as a sophomore. Colin Simmons is an absolute monster. Let's finish this off with the intel that we have on defensive backs. Eric writes, I mostly watched the safeties during drills. Jonah Williams gained ground on other players even while working through backpedal zigzag drills. You don't expect to see that given his size. Kobe Black's feet were very quick and his hips were loose, almost like a cornerback. Loose hips is the absolute key when you are a defensive back or yeah, specifically a safety. But honestly I'm not. I would like to to wipe that away. Just defensive backs in general. I wouldn't want to be hit by any of these guys, but especially not Jordan Johnson Rubel. He's thickly built with a low center of gravity. Off season increase in in in lifting. There it is again. Good to see Blake Gideon back in charge. Cornerback John Meredith lost his lunch on the field. Excited to see John Meredith, who was one of the top recruits in the class of 2027, reclassified to 2026 because he just could not wait to join the Texas Longhorns in Austin, Texas. Unfortunately, it did. It does seem like he didn't maybe didn't have the the best moment here losing his lunch on the field. Pretty funny. Kate Phillips and Bo Masco displayed the best technique during drill, so a ton of good takeaways here from the the guys from inside Texas. Specifically.
