Welcome to Inside Texas. We appreciate you being here with me and Justin Wells. It is Friday, J Dub. That means it is time for some scoop for your Friday scoop with J Dub and myself. Happy to bring it to you guys. Pleasure to be here. Thank you. But make sure before we do anything today that you are indeed subscribed not only to YouTube on Inside Texas, but go over to insidetexas.com take advantage of that $1 flash sale. We've got a pretty big commitment popping off tomorrow, J Dub, and there's no better place to get coverage. Justin Wells, Charlie Williams have crushed the coverage of Landon Williams callous and we're going to talk about him and his pending decision tomorrow. But first, guys, want to make sure if you didn't know Paul Waddlington of Inside Texas thinking Texas football. Right, Justin, that is, yes, book that Mr. Washington has wrote. You're going to be able to find in depth analysis on Texas's best opponent. You're going to be able to find out, you know, just the overall upside of this team. All Paul's thoughts, Justin, on Texas football. We know you can grab that at Amazon, probably a couple other outlets. Smash Words.
Justin Wells
It's a great read, man. It's really a good read. If you've got like a long, if you've got a little bit of time where you can like focus like a flat flight or a long drive or things of that sort, it really it to me it's the preemptive of the football season. Like once I get my hands on that and start to read Paul's, you know, lovely, lovely written word. I, I feel like I'm in, I'm, I'm in season. I feel like I'm ready. We've arrived now. Thank you.
Charlie Williams
You know What I learned things from Paul. Paul makes me a smarter.
Justin Wells
I learned more from Paul. Paul's gonna make one reference a day that I'm gonna have to Google. I'm just gonna have to Google it. I don't know what it is and that's what Paul's. That's one of the things, one of the many talents.
Charlie Williams
Well there you go guys. Thinking Texas football by Inside Texas's own Paul Watlington. Become a smarter fan today. You can get a link in the description if you're interested in purchasing that. But Jdub it is time. We're here to talk Landon Williams Callous 24 hours from decision within 24 hours almost there of decision day for Landon going to talk about it first. He's got to be the headliner. We still feeling pretty confident Mr. Wells.
Justin Wells
I I think Texas is in the best position possible right now. Our, our colleague at Rivals, Steve Wilfong posted a story this morning said that Texas A and M is making a late push. They really really want him on, they really really want him in the class and, and they, they really need a bit I think they need that tailback about as much as anything. But I still at the end of the day I think Texas has done the most again we're a little over 24 hours away and in recruiting anything can happen. You got SMU in the mix, Missouri, Houston. But I, I really think you know if it would be Texas or Texas A M theoretically. I still like the way Houston recruited him recruiting. Houston's keeping a lot of of the the in that city limits and and that surrounding areas they're keeping a lot of that talent close. Last year when they signed Keyshawn Henderson I was the five star quarterback I think was number one or number two in the country. Willie Fritz is doing a great job and they did a great job with Landon Williams callous like they they, they tried to convince him hey be with some of these other guys, stay at home, you can get paid here and play some big time football. And so that that pushed and so you know it was, it's respectable and it's something that I think LWC and his family expect. I mean respected but right now I just like where Texas stands 24 hours out. I, I we've really liked where they stood since the official visit coming out of the ov Charlie had a lot of good intel coming out of that about how it it sounded like Texas had kind of swayed back into the momentum of of it and then ever since then it's just kind of snowballed towards Texas, all the momentum and things of that sort. And so I still, I think Texas is the one there. They have all the predictions right now. So if it is in Texas, it's going to be a bunch of people wrong.
Charlie Williams
A few of us over inside Texas may be wrong on that. If, if that were to happen of course. But as you said, Justin is recruiting
Justin Wells
anything let's ask, I'm sorry, I didn't mean, let's also get to Victor. Let's get Victor's question. But you keep, but you do what you do.
Charlie Williams
I'm just gonna say it is, it is cultural recruiting. Anything is possible. But I want to ask you do you feel like a, a firm decision has been made within their camp?
Justin Wells
Oh yeah, I think this decision was made three weeks ago. I, I, yeah, this decision's been made. He's known, he's known where he's going for, for, for a few weeks.
Charlie Williams
Well talk to us. Does Texas care? Does Landon care? Four star or five star? Does that matter?
Justin Wells
Well, I mean Texas doesn't care. I mean you don't get an extra juice box after practice if you've got a, you know, an extra fourth star, fifth star. You know it's funny, you can, you don't meant they don't mention stars in a college locker room if you, if you're a freshman or sophomore and you walk in talking about I was a five star da da da. You get humbled quickly usually like they don't, they don't really care about the stars. They care. Are you gonna wake up early every morning and be here on time? Are you gonna put everything into this program and are you going to develop in, in with blood, sweat and tears. That's what they want to know. And so with Landon Williams callous, you know he's one of those guy just a dynamic kid and I, I think he can just do so many different things on the offensive side of the ball and that's what Sark, you know you, it's just giving him another to draw up more and more things with and so yeah, I, I, I think they've known. I think they have known. I'm gonna get to, I want to, I'm gonna get to Victor's. I like Victor Santiago's question. Did LWC get bumped down to a four star? Okay. I don't remember when he was a five star. It may have been a year ago, maybe nine months ago. I'm not real sure but I feel like the last two re rankings he's number I was Looking this up while ago, Victor, he's the number 49 overall. Usually the five star cutoff is in the 30 range. 31, 32, 30, you know, that's usually where the five stars kind of cut off. But anything after that, 10, 15, you know, points, it doesn't mean anything. I mean it's fun for us to talk about, to rank, to go back and look four years from now and go to the draft and kind of see how well they were evaluated and we reposition them. But once you get on campus, man, stars don't come with you, they don't, they don't travel. You get on campus, you're just like everybody else. And the best thing about that is that's how you earn the respect of your teammates.
Charlie Williams
Right?
Justin Wells
Shut up and work. Come, just shut up and come to work. I can tell you over the years covering team, you know there's a handful of guys that were, you know, just go getters get getting there first, you know, staying till that to last earning the respect of their teammates. And you, we would hear about those guys, the, the Trevor Goos bees, the Jelani McDonald's and then you hear about some of the guys that are lazy, that don't show up on time, that, that milk injuries repeatedly that things of that sort. And so the biggest thing for lwc, don't bring any stars with you. Just bring your mindset and that, that mentality you have to, to kill and to destroy. And you know what, he's, I think he's really mature. Listen, this kid's been getting offer since eighth grade. That will mature you in this process faster than anything.
Charlie Williams
And that's well said. And I mean all of these guys have electric cuddle tapes and they all have done you know, insane things at the high school level. Everything resets. You get the college level. You know, I love when they're, you know, no decals early in the se, you know, early in fall camp and they're just working for it. Just like to that reminder like hey, you know, it's a new time.
Justin Wells
All right.
Charlie Williams
What I've done in that, that, that was cool, that's helped me get to where I'm at. But yeah, you got to go back to work. And again that's why these guys are, you know, a lot of them are in the position that they got Justin, it's never working with Inside Texas but of course we got some scoop for him on a Friday.
Justin Wells
Always, always. And also remember about lwc, his family has some serious pro talent, serious collegiate talent. I don't know if you guys ever remember watching Jacquiz Rogers and his cousin. I think they were Lamar Consolidated. They went to Oregon State. They didn't get recruited that highly out of Texas. They went to Oregon State. One of them was like either PAC 12 offensive player of the year, one of them, two. Both of them were all conference, all PAC 12 players. And so he, and they were small in size and stature. So he's seen what they have to do. I'm going to get to that, that question with smu. Yeah, I'll get that to you. But I was just, I just wanted to, you know, make that point. Like, yeah, that, that's, that's pretty much how that, that LWC understands that because he's been surrounded by pro minded thinking people this whole process.
Charlie Williams
That's well said. And I do want you. Excuse me. To answer that question that popped up about SMU and their collective. But first, Jay, we're going to hear a quick break or go to a quick read from Mr. Drew Smith. Shout out to Drew for sponsoring today's show at Inside Texas.
Drew Smith
If you're running a business in Texas, real estate, construction, manufacturing, you need to talk to fellow Longhorn Drew Smith at Hub International. Most companies outgrow their insurance and never even realize it until a claim gets denied or a gap costs them. Drew builds tailored programs, not generic quotes. He's gotten denied claims, paid in full, and saved one real estate portfolio nearly $500,000 through his smart restructuring. Rates are shifting right now. If your agent's only answer is it's a hard market, call Drew Smith. 210-393-8382. That is 210-393-8382. Talk to Drew before your renewal, not after. Link in the description.
Charlie Williams
There you go. Welcome back to Inside Texas. And again, we're going to throw this question up from yes, OU sucks. And that is the name again. I love that your first comments was in reference to your name holding true. Speaking of smu, should Texas be worried about having a five star picked off by the Boulevard Collective in the future? Justin.
Justin Wells
Nah, bro. I mean SMU at some point is gonna get a five star. Probably. Like it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen. Like look, they look SMU recruits at a very high level in this era right now. Their nil is no joke. Their staff is no.
Charlie Williams
Still there. Justin. I think we might have lost Justin for just a moment. Hopefully he pops right back in. But yeah, me personally, I feel like
Justin Wells
for the best possible position, I feel like SMU they're gonna be, they're gonna have an opportunity at some point to, to get one of those five stars. I don't think it's going to be this cycle. I don't, I don't think it's going to be now. But at some point SMU is going to get one and I'm Gary, I'm a guarantee it's probably going to be a DFW kid. Like if SMU snags a 5 star prospect, it's going to be probably somebody from the Metroplex. Don't sleep on them. They look, Rhett Lashley is an incredible coach. They have a very young staff that's energetic, that understands bringing what they do to the table. A lot of former college guys and so, and a lot of good area guys. Riley Dodge coaching tight ends over there. That's my dude. He's an outstanding guy. And so at some point, ponies, you'll get a five star. I just don't see it happening anytime soon.
Charlie Williams
There will be one, but there will be few and far between. We've seen the folks up in Lubbock, Texas able to pull in some talent up there. I don't think that, you know, the fine folks around the Metroplex in Dallas are just gonna, you know, they're not gonna say, oh well, how are they doing? Battle back a little bit.
Justin Wells
Justin, if you can convince a kid to move to Lubbock, Texas, you can convince him to move to Dallas. Like it's pretty easy. Pretty. It should be pretty smooth. Hey, you're willing to go to Lubbock? Look what we got here for you then, man. The anti Lubbock, everything Lubbock doesn't have, including the stench. Like, yeah, look, I, I'm telling you this, listen, last year they flipped a mid three star, low four star and max right off coming out of Melissa, who I absolutely love. I think he is going to be playing the NFL one day and he's already, I believe he's the backup right tackle already on that offensive line. SMU is going to get some guys. They've already showed that. They've already proven it and they, they'll develop them. It's just going to be a matter of time before we see one of those five stars. It would have to be a five star that either got ranked as a four star and then maybe a re release at the end popped up as a five or a guy that Texas and Texas A and M and Texas Tech just had decided, you know, we'll pass.
Charlie Williams
Right? And there are those guys they do come up. Yes, they absolutely are, for, you know, a myriad of different reasons, but. All right, Justin, we don't have a ton of time left, but I do have a couple questions that I need to ask you, so I'm going to do my best to tie it into. Into one question. You know, we're going to see if we get. We can get there. I want to talk about potential flip candidates, but I also want to talk about potential visitors for Texas versus Ohio State. Okay, so let's marry the two. Are there any potential flip candidates, Justin, that you could see on campus? Early September is Texas and Ohio State get ready to tangle for the third time in three years.
Justin Wells
You know, that's. It's. That's an excellent question. It really is. Because if there's a flip candidate in the stands September 12th for Texas Ohio State, that's going to be the most noteworthy guy in the group. And we already know there's five stars from 2028 that are coming, right? We already know. We. We've actually put in. We've got a little bit of a. A. We had a. Like, a primer of what of some of the guys that we've already confirmed or who could be posted inside Texas about a week ago. I need to bump that. But, yeah, like Victor says, if you see Mancha and sales on campus, buddy, protect his Ohio State. Hey, buckle up. You see Jalen Brewster? Same, same. Jquan Snell, you know, Isaiah Josiah Poyer. You see any flip, and that's what it's going to be. Their. Their class is essentially over, which is crazy, on July 3rd, you know, you know, going into early, early August. But It'll be mostly 28s and 29s, but it's going to be mostly 28. That Texas is really strategic about how they set these things up. I wrote a story about it last week where I talked about it. Reminds me of the 2022 matchup when Texas hosted Alabama. Yeah, the. The dude. It was a dude of dudes in the stands that day. Like, there were some of the best prospects in the country, and a chunk of those kids are going to be on the field that Saturday when Ohio State comes for you. So Texas, I think, looks at it like that. Like, hey, we. We're already in a great spot with all the 27s almost wrapped up. The class gonna try to flip a few late. Let's go ahead and focus on those 28s. Get all those guys in there at once, make sure. We kind of make sure they understand. And guys like Bryson Wright, wide receiver out of Florida. Guys like David Dotson, big time defensive end who I absolutely love out of Humble Atasca. New new head coach Kyle Coates has a, has some monsters down there. And so the 28 list, I posted one this morning, I can't pronounce his name and I'm not going to try to do it. He's Texas style. But there's an offensive lineman out of Sierra Canyon, he's former teammates at Richard Wesley and his current teammate at Kasai Curry, who's a Texas commit. He confirmed he's going to be in for Texas, Ohio State. And so most of the guys for that game are going to be 2028s. If you see a 27, that's either a late senior eval that Texas really, really likes.
Charlie Williams
Right.
Justin Wells
Or that's a kid they need to flip. And so that's. If I could, if we could merge that the way we did, I think, I think that's how we pulled that off.
Charlie Williams
I've got a feeling again there will, there will be a committed player or two or three from other schools. Me personally, and this isn't reporting from anybody at Inside Texas, I just got my fingers crossed that we can get a linebacker from a, you know, committed to an in state school. Somehow, some way, I feel like we just, hey,
Justin Wells
I want Joe Kim Guta. He's the linebacker out of Georgia. He's committed to Georgia. He's a, he's, he's a, he's a, he's a menace. That dude tracks and smacks. I want that kid. Yeah, you see any 27 linebacker, buddy, that's a storyline because that's, that's really all they have left in this cycle is to wrap up is linebacker. But for, for these games, most of the time they're going to be for the class. The next class, they're not necessarily going to be for the class in the moment. Those do pay off. Paid off with Justice Terry two years ago. Justice Terry comes in for the Georgia game, watches the Horns get their butt beat and decides, I think I can help the Horns here. And you know, so sometimes that'll happen. So.
Charlie Williams
Indeed. Well, well, Justin, we have gone a little bit overtime, but I mean, the content is so good, my man. Anything else that you need to fire off?
Justin Wells
No, I just want to make sure I get everybody's questions. Appreciate Nash jumping in and throwing out some stuff. Love what he does. He's right. The recruiting world has changed so much in the last five or 10 years. I've been doing this for 15 years. I've been following it for probably 25 to 30 years. He's right, man. I think it's different now than it was even four or five years ago,
Charlie Williams
but massively different, y'. All. Yeah.
Justin Wells
I really do. The agents have changed the game. It's not nil. It's not Portal. It's agents. They have changed the game. And, man, we. We. We sure appreciate it. So.
Drew Smith
Yeah.
Charlie Williams
Update.
Justin Wells
Oh, I got something for Peter. I got you right here, dude. Did you see 24. 7? They did their re rankings for the class of 2028. And guess who is the number one rated athlete in the country? Chris Junior. That's Chris Whaley Junior. Let me tell you something. Chris Whaley, senior is a large man, okay? I wouldn't. I wouldn't call him a large human in, like, the Leonard Davis, East Texas way, but he's a large man. He's a big guy. You play defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys, you probably got some size. CJ towers over this kid. This guy. CJ's almost six. Six. Like, CJ is a freak. His wingspan looks like Kevin Durant. He is a elite football player. He is an outstanding basketball player. And the best of all, Texas was in on him early, and the horns look really good right now. I expect to see him September 12th when Texas and Ohio State play.
Charlie Williams
That might be a pretty. Pretty nice time to make an even bigger impression on young Whaley.
Justin Wells
Hey, Victor. 6:45. 6:45. Come to inside Texas because we will have it on our board at 6:45, and usually they start at 6:45, so it's your best guess when it pops. It'll be a ceremony. So sometimes it can take a while. As long as we don't go Ryan Newsome style, I think we'll be fine.
Charlie Williams
Justin, sometimes you got to lock in for the long haul because there's. Sometimes where it's 6:45, they're announcing at 6:46, 6:47, you pop. You. You turn it on, and there's hugs already going around. Balloons are going up, and you've missed it. So for now, I'm. If it's 6:45, I'm. I'm there. 6:40, and I'm. I'm locked in. Sorry. Wife, kids, I'm nowhere for the next. It could be two, three hours. Whatever this young man decides, it's going to compete.
Justin Wells
Yeah, they hold us hostage.
Charlie Williams
They do.
Justin Wells
I tell that all the time. If one of them tells me, hey, I'm about to commit here, or I'm about To do this. I'm like, can you not do this on set or on the night? Like, hey, man, do it in the morning. That way you can have the whole day. Don't, don't. Don't do this at 9:30 at night. We got kids we're trying to put to bed. But you know what? These kids are so good most of the time, I promise you. Most of the time, they are really good about this stuff.
Charlie Williams
LWC event invite only. Any. Any.
Justin Wells
I would believe.
Carl's Jr. Advertiser
So.
Justin Wells
I. I don't know for sure. I don't know for sure. If you're a fan, I wouldn't just show up. I'll say that I would actually call. I'd call the, the coaching staff at Richmond Randall and reach out to coach Brian Randall. If you're, if you're that big of a fan, you want to go see him, I wouldn't just show up. But if you're, if you're a Texas fan, he's probably not going to run you out either.
Charlie Williams
There you go. There you go. No, guys, we really do appreciate you, all you guys in the chat keeping us going here. We're gonna answer the questions. We are old, Nash. I got good news for you, though. You're not as old as I am. Good news for me. I don't know if I'm as old as Justin. I know we're close, but. All right, all right. I'm not. Not there yet. Your beard, you'll get a lot of gray in there.
Justin Wells
It's the beard, brother giveaway.
Charlie Williams
It's coming.
Justin Wells
I need to shave before my. My Texas extra speech tomorrow night. I need to go shave. Need to. Need to. You need to get pretty. I need to get clean.
Charlie Williams
You gotta get sh.
Justin Wells
Dude, I saw that and started laughing. He's right. Let's wedding craft this whole.
Charlie Williams
It's the greatest movie ever made. Don't ever let your kids watch it, but the greatest movie ever made, by the way. And so anytime I see Wedding Crashers references, they're getting on screen, Jay. That's just how it's got to be.
Justin Wells
Age group, is it appropriate? Like, at what age will your son be? Where you say, son, I got something we gotta watch.
Charlie Williams
It's hilarious because I told him 16. But in my head, I'm like, absolutely not. Like. Because one day I was like, laughing about it with a buddy we quoted, you know, religiously. And so he hears the conversation, he's like, I want to watch that. And I'm like, oh, absolutely not. In, you know, 10 years, he's 6. I don't know, 25. That, that's a good one, man. We're gonna, we're gonna hold him tight. To the best.
Justin Wells
I was, you know, I have no idea. Mine's nine. And so I, I, I, I wouldn't even know. I, you know, I wouldn't. I, he doesn't, he has no clue about that movie anyway. But I was just curious, like, what would be your, your.
Charlie Williams
Well, you're a better dad than I am, so I, Whatever you choose will be better. That promise and what goes on, you know, more than likely I'll just tell
Justin Wells
him, go get a ball. Let's go outside.
Charlie Williams
There you go. That's the way it should be, guys. We appreciate y'. All. Justin, appreciate you. We love you at Inside Texas. Thanks for watching, but make sure. Hey, you taking advantage of that flash sale. $1. We'll get you a sub. And then don't forget, throw a like on this video if you get for us to hear Landon Williams tomorrow or Landon Williams cows tomorrow. 6:45. Of course, you'll have all the content between now and then. Hop on over to Inside Texas and come hang out with us. We appreciate you watching. We'll see you next time, guys.
