Yeah, you know, and when you come to these events, before he got out there at whatever it was, 2pm Central, he was on Sirius XM. He was in another room where Cord was. He got to meet with the local media, with Evan and those tweets and those clips are all over inside Texas, not only on our Twitter account, but also on the message board that, as Homer said, you can sign up for just a dollar to go check it out. So you have a reverse. You have a rehearsed set of things you want to say and what you want to get across not only to your local media, like us, but also to the national media. And he hit those and. And, you know, he even talked about scheduling. He knew that was coming because the whole Florida, Ohio State thing was going to pop up again. Arch Manning was going to pop up again. But, man, like, hey, two SEC media days in a row. Steve Sarkeesian, somehow, even though this is a preview of the football Season makes a splash when it comes to recruiting and that was the thing that kind of had not scrambling because we had that story ready but Sark comes up there or Eric breaks that. You know Meredith is reclassifying from John Meredith who I just. If you hear the slack things that's Luke Stampini telling me he is still rivals five star ranked number 32 in the country according to rivals. So still a five star reclassifying from 27 to 26. Program announced him joining the team and rolling early and he's already 18. He's a super talented player. I view this as a ton of great news because he was either going to have to go back to Euless Trinity, which good program has a lot of history. Not at the standard North Crowley is right now. He couldn't play at North Crowley. He was ineligible there. Or maybe he goes to an IMG or a private school and plays taps ball which features people like me in, in that level of competition. Instead he is going straight up to the, to the roster. And Stark didn't really want to give a lot about like what the expectations were for him but I thought the

timeline was weird because he said he wouldn't commit to the timeline. So to me it's like it could be next year but he said I don't know if it's week one, four or eight. I'm like that's still way earlier than you would expect. So it was, it was still sooner than you would think whenever he was being non committal.

Yeah, I just think that with five to play five and even you know, if he turned 18 a couple weeks ago then the clock would have started. He's, he's starting his clock a year earlier but that's okay. You do have to pay him and that's probably okay too. I think this is really good news for Texas. We already knew this was a strong cornerback room. It's gotten even stronger. Maybe he contributes but at least this year you know he's participating in football and there have been, I mean Jaden Blue. I mean I know he worked out and he got ready and was a player who made some immediate impacts in his freshman year. But that was a big question mark when during his senior year he is not playing football and football players play football. John Meredith is going to be playing football. He's going to be doing it for Texas. Who knows if it's going to be in games but he's going to be working with Mark Orfeh, Will Muschamp, all those player, all those players in there Those coaches and I view that. I think since that's breaking news, that's the thing we have to hit on first. And I view it as extremely great news considering his 2026 season was up in the air until a couple minutes

ago and he sent a couple clear messages. Number one was culture was a theme. That's always kind of a theme with Sark, but he admitted, just came out plainly and said, I messed up last year. We started the culture way too late in the summer and we paid for it. And then he mentions, you know, this season we lost 40 scholarship players between NFL or transfer. And then we brought in 47 new scholarship players, whether it was transfer or from the high school ranks. So that was his big thing. They're admitting that they messed up the culture last year. And then the changes they have made while mentioning, hey, we have a lot of new faces. We cannot play around like that again.

And I think one thing to, to recognize is when he admitted he messed up the culture, I don't think it means it that he had like a terrible culture. I think he is acknowledging that it was not as strong as it needed to be. I don't think that makes it bad, but again, not as strong as it needed to be because. And the way Sark was putting it was, you know, you brought in, you brought in a bunch of high school early enrollees because that's just how it works. That class of 20, 25, number one class, most of them enrolled early. So they show up and you get a handful of transfer guys like Emmett Mosley. Who else am I missing? Like, you know, Matthew Caldwell. Just, it's, it's already in the rear view mirror. But you get those handful of transfer guys. So you're getting 30ish new players on your roster last year, this time last year, and you're not telling them the Texas way until the summer. Well, you go through spring, you go through winter, you go, you go through school, and then it's like, oh, okay, here's all that stuff that you did in the spring. All that stuff, those habits that you've already kind of formed, we got to break those. And some of them probably weren't bad, but they weren't the Texas way. So instead of getting all, everybody kind of rowing in the right direction as summer goes on and camp goes on, you're correcting. And that was something that for Steve Sarkeesian, you're correcting culture. You are getting used to a new starting quarterback, which first, talented as arch, is that that's still a process. And as we learned at the end of the year, when Pete Kwikowski was let go, you're kind of delving onto the defensive side of the ball more than you would like. That's a lot of pull. That is a ton of pull on a professional who's got a game plan for offense, game plan for defense, more than he would like, recruit all the different stuff and set the culture. He didn't have enough hours in the day. And I. I understand why there could be some, like, well, why don't you just give up play calling?

And why is Steve Sarkeesian the head coach then? Part of it's because of the culture, and he just did not manage his time properly or he didn't start things on time, and he admitted that. And I think this was something we heard about in the spring, too, with. With Sark saying, you know, we started these culture Wednesdays here in the spring because of the early enrollees. Like, what was it? Elijah, Ali, Brinley, Tita, Nicholas, Robertson. I think those are the only three that didn't enroll early. Maybe there was one more. I'm forgetting you got most of the transfers in, and, you know, even so, those are guys, the transfers who wait till the summer. You want to get them up to speed. You don't want to wait on them because then you're bringing everybody else back. So I. I thought it was a very, you know, introspective look by Sark, who is pretty open about. Wrong. His faults as far as, like, missteps and stuff like that. I thought he did well there, and, you know, that's why we've heard so many more positive things over the course of the. The summer about the culture, the team bonding and things like that.

And he covered a few more topics. So one of the ones that I thought also was a good message is owned up to some of the issues. So he said, clearly, we have to be a better rushing team.

And we clearly have to be a more explosive rushing team, which I think fans can all agree. And it's just nice when you hear your head coach say it. Right. It would be more concerning if he was like, thought the run game looked great, then you're in trouble. So. And of course, he gets two backs immediately, adds Derek Cooper. So clearly he understood that. So that was the message, hey, we got to be better in the run game.

And you should check Inside Texas about that, because Rayleigh Brown was on third, and Longhorn talked with Alex Okafur and Nick Shuley about it. It's like, you know, I had the relationship with Sark, but me and Hollywood, like this is our type of run scheme and so that's going to be something to, to track as well.

Yeah. And then he made some comments. He said we had to get rid of. Well, I think he phrased it the urge to commit penalties or something. So it's like there's a deeply in Texas culture for some reason there is a drive to commit penalty and he even kind of walked it back. Like you get, you know what I'm saying? But he said clearly there's a penalty issue we need to address.

Hey, he, he should take some lessons from what was it Sean Miller said they they've got the fouling virus or something like that back during the spring. And somebody posted on Inside Texas about the stats for most recent national champions. When it comes to penalties, most of them are, you know, you want to be the lead. If you're not moving backwards, you're usually moving forwards. Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State and then going back to those Georgia teams not very highly penalized. I think the worst was like 20th. If you cut Texas penalties per game in half from last year, they barely make the top 70. They were like bottom five and yardage penalties per game, all that stuff. And hey, there are other offenses that have motion with wide receivers and tight ends and running backs that have vocal counts, that have clap counts that don't get penalized. That's got to be something that they fix. We've heard that they've tried to make a lot of these different drills and off season workouts go off of varying snap counts instead of just set, hit, set, hit, set, hit over and over again. Proof's going to be in the pudding and we're not going to know until they line up against Texas State. And maybe we'll get a little bit just from some of the scrimmages, but we're not going to really know until they line up against Texas State. What is going on with the handkerchiefs?

Also keyed in on getting being better on third down and then the red area. And this was during a period too he transitions to Muschamp and I I don't have the exact quote because I'm not a journalist, so I just write down the what it what he feels like he said. And it was something like everything he thought it could be. By hiring Mus Champ, it seems like him having to manage parts of PK's enterprise affected Sark and it was nice to have Muschamp over there and then control.

Control head coach of the defense. That's. That's what he called him. That's what he's paying him. Like. And even on I I was tuning into his Sirius XM interview, he said like, hey, we also got Blake Gideon back and having those two together because Gideon went from all over the place, especially to Florida. I think right after Gideon's playing career was finished, he goes and starts working at Florida. Then he goes to and follows him to Auburn for that last time. Muschamp was a defensive coordinator and I don't think he kept going with him to South Carolina, but that's where Mark Orfe comes in. Mark Orfe was with must Champ at South Carolina and then now both those guys are calling the secondary. Colin Simmons had a lot of like, he said something along the lines of this team needed must Champ. And man, I I know it's Will Muschamp is always going to be red meat for Texas fans, but I'm, I'm excited, man. Like, I can't wait to see him out there talking about it and being about it. And again, head coach of the defense and it's someone that, you know things can change. This was a few months ago, Will Muschamp said, like, I don't really have any aspirations to be a head coach again. And you know what? If you can make good, if you can make $3 million a year being a SEC defensive coordinator, yeah, it's high pressure, but you're getting paid a lot more than a significant number of FBS head coaches.

And you get to hang out in Austin.

Yeah, which he Already loves. But, you know, who else gets to hang out in Austin that we haven't talked about quite yet? Who? We got to feed the algorithmic beast.

Arch Manning. And I think it was a good question from. From Cedric golden, as I see him over on the screen, not Cedric. I see Arch over on the screen about, you know, what's it like? And in Sark, again, he's got a lot of rehearsed answers for this, but the media crowned him last year, and then he didn't play very well in the first few weeks. Gets the first flop thing, people. What's the right word for this? Improperly put blame for the Florida loss on him. That game was only close because of him. And then, you know, they're like, oh, the way Sark put it was, you know, hey, you didn't live up to our expectations. Well, you set the expectations up here. And even Sark last year was like, we gotta pump the brakes a little bit.

Arch, last SEC media days, was begging us to pump the brakes. Remember? Like, he was like, guys, everyone chill out. He told us.

Yeah, and. And then he goes and plays well against Oklahoma. The team just struggles, but he leads Texas back against Mississippi State, plays well against Vanderbilt. Everybody kind of shot themselves in the foot against Georgia, but leads a great stretch where Texas finishes the season, what, seven and one. And so now he is someone that Sarkeesian's like the guy he was last year. Yeah, he's older. Yeah, he's a little wiser, but he is still archmanning. He's still a guy who did not let that all go to his head. He doesn't come in here acting like I'm the number one pick, that stuff like that. I think I told Court this the other day, like, yeah, he's Arch Manning, he's Peyton and Eli's nephew, Archie's grandson, Cooper's son, all that stuff. But he's also number 16 on the Texas Longhorns. So, hey, that is a good thing there for Texas to have in its back pocket. And, hey, even Sark was a little bit complimentary of KJ Lacy, too. So that quarterback room's in great shape with number 16 leading the way.

Final thing, I want to close that. Well, there are a couple quick notes. We don't really have to talk about them, but he mentioned he got asked about Cam Coleman. The wide receiver room said he loved Cam as a person, too, not just as a player. So that was a very sweet, nice moment, but just pointing out that Cam is well rounded and we've heard that from our reporting too, that he's a good teammate and a good presence on the team. But he was. And then we had the thing where we got asked about Georgia as the standard. He played it well. Look, Georgia is a championship team, so of course they're our standard in our measuring mark. We will have to beat them someday. We don't play them this season. Maybe we will in the championship. But quick, Georgia thought. And then the final piece, non committal on upcoming Notre Dame games, talking about the schedule. So basically he points out, look, if the committee can't distinguish 10 and 2 from 9 and 3 and strength to schedule, then what is the true benefit of playing these teams? Besides that good teams want to play good teams, I guess.

Yeah. Sark talked a lot about how he's a soccer fan, he's not a wrestling fan, because the term he was looking for is to be the man, you got to beat the man. That's a good old Ric Flair quote. But you know, I, I even put this on the message board, like, everybody's fine with Georgia being like preseason favorite, right? Like, yeah, yeah. Good, good. And I said, look, I don't want this to come from the like, oh, it's a bad thing to be the preseason number one. Like, no, it means you're good, okay? You got a target on the back. Good teams have the target on the back. Quit being afraid. But that what I was trying to get at was like, look, there's nothing wrong with admitting that it's very, very talented Georgia team with an experienced quarterback and maybe the best college football coach out there right now is probably the preseason favorite to win this conference again. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think Sark was, was smart to acknowledge that he's been the Notre Dame thing. It will cost Texas chump change to get out of there. I don't know what, what power conference team they can use they can find or replace. It sure won't be that hard. But his overall point is like, look, R9 and 3. And I'm not sure I 100 agree with this, but this is his perspective. R9 and 3 where we have wins over what, three top 10 teams, two losses to top 10 teams, both on the road one by one possession, another loss by one possession. R9 and 3 in this league with that is now going to nine conference games. Why are we equating that to whatever Texas Tech, who is a very good team and I'm just going to use them because why not? Let's just use why not. Why not? Yeah, let's. I've already, everybody's already hyped up about them anyway. Like they are playing what Abilene Christian, Oregon State and somebody else. Okay. And then they're playing a Big 12 that they are clearly better than. That's why Sark made those comments in the past couple weeks or in the months leading up to this about like, you know, we could probably do pretty well in that conference. Like, it's just one of those things where we can't think that 10 and like what's going to happen when all the 10 and twos get compared? Like is a 10 and two Texas going to be compared to 10 and two Miami and the toughest team they face might be a team that's not even in their conference in Notre Dame. That, that's the thing in the comparison I've been making and I'll finish up with this. Like some years the AFC west is going to be a lot better than the NFC south, but they're, they're about here some years the acc, the bottom of the ACC can stink. Like Boston College may be oh, for FBS game watch. Who knows what Florida State is going to be. But like the sec, some teams are going to have bad records, but they're going to be good teams. And Florida is easy to look at from last year as being the case for that. Well, if you're going to make fun of Sunbelt Billy for being Sunbelt Billy, then you got to be able to square that with the fact with a talented team was mismanaged the rec. The thing is, not all, not all schedules are going to look the same. Not all 10 win seasons look the same. And hey, I know my buddy's watching this. I know Paul's gonna say it soon. Lost column bias has to be addressed somehow. And Steve Sarkeesian and the rest of the SEC really do believe that it has not been touched in the way that college football coaches in that conference needed to be addressed.

Overall, Stark had a good performance. He does good on the mic, man. He makes sense. He's enjoyable. It wasn't any like weird defensiveness. It was all very honest.
