We just got done watching fall camp and of course talking to Steve Sarkeesian which is going to be the topic of today's video. Tyler, you were asking Sark a little bit about this and and before we we get into Arch Manning, which I think is a big topic and and what everyone wants to hear about Cole Hudson I I know is a name that people are interested in. 2022 class was granted some eligibility rulings here and he never entered the Portal could be on the roster in theory, was not here today. Sark was asked about and said they're working on it. Not nothing confirmed, nothing really new, but we'll see about Cole Hudson's kind of the. The what, what we've learned. And Tyler Archbanning is of course someone we're going to bring up. And he was asked a little bit about Sarkeesian was, you know, some of those layups that Arch was missing last year and maybe it was getting in his own head, whatever what might have been. Those were the things that he was struggling with, not the hard things. And you also asked a little bit about kind of the backups behind him, Diabell and K.J. lacy, how they were doing. What did you get from Sark about his talk about the quarterback room in general, general and Arch in particular?

Let's start with Arch, obviously, because he is QB1 here and he's probably going to be one of the more high profile. He's definitely going to be one of the more high profile quarterbacks in the country. Yet again, I liked Sartre's answers on Arch in terms of we expect him to hit those layups like you're talking about. And Arch or Sark, excuse me, pretty much said, hey, he's going to be a lot better than he was last year. Because I think if you look at everything that Sark has said before today, this offseason, he. He's basically saying that kid was set up to fail last year and you saw some failures early on, but he eventually kind of rectified that. The Arch that you saw at the end of last year is the Arch that Sark is expecting to see. I think this Texas fan base is expecting to see that Arch and it's the Arch that Sark saw today. Quite frankly, he said that he had a pretty good day, me watching him. I observed the offense mostly today. You, you looked at the defense. We're going to talk about some of those guys, but I thought Arch was, was pretty locked in. They're throwing routes on air when the media is there. But he knew where he was going with the ball. It looked pretty confident. So he's good, he's going to be ready to roll. But I think the backups too, and that's what I asked about, was a shorter answer on the backups from Sark, but I really liked the answer. He basically said Arch is not the only guy here. We have other quarterbacks who are going to play football for this program and sooner than later. If you think that Arch is going to the NFL draft next year, which I think we all do. So, K.J. lacy, Diabell, they also had good days today, and it's going to be a really solid month for the Texas quarterbacks, I think.

Yeah, Lacy in particular was. Was pretty accurate in his throws. And that's what you need from a guy who's maybe a little undersized, but accuracy, mobility, have to be there from your QB2, if that's who it's going to be. And I got a chance to observe a little bit of that side of the ball, like the quarterbacks on the D line at certain points are together. And I thought it looked sharp when they're throwing to Cam Coleman. And Mike Bamonti is a guy who stuck out to me, a staff member. He's the quarterback coach of the team. Not one of the most heralded guys on the staff, but someone who you've heard a lot of praise from, from Sarkeesian and Court in general. You heard a lot of praise from his staff. That seemed to be a topic that got brought up a lot here, like. Like, what's with your staff? Sark, like, you made a lot of changes. How are they progressing, how they influence the culture. And he said, I think his wording in particular was really interesting when he was talking about just how much of an impact they made just in day one.

I mean, one big noticeable difference is the energy on the sideline. Right. Again, when it's not the actual sideline right on the practice field, but the anticipated energy this year compared to maybe a season to go for Texas. Just a different thing if you have a couple running backs. Coach Bar Jaluk in the mix when you have a will must champ, we have Blake Gideon back in the fold. Beante was loud. Like, there's a firm presence with their voices. And you could tell, man, like, it doesn't really matter who you are. They're going to coach you up. They're going to coach you really, really hard. And so, I mean, that's what these top athletes want. Right? They want to be maximized. They want to hit their ceilings. And so, yeah, you could tell Sark wanted a little bit more juice on the sideline. It's really confident that he found it. And it's. It was fun to listen to today and day one.

Yeah. And I asked him a question, sort of about some of these younger guys, that number one recruiting class, 25. What do they need to do? And it kind of mirrored these ideas. They just got to be able to gel with this coaching staff. And, and be able to develop like this. This is a really important time for them. And he even pointed out your Richard Wesley's of the world, Tyler Atkins. What do they need to do to show up? And they've just got to be in the right spots. They got to be doing the right things at this point in time. And you can already see the athletically gifted players out there, Tyler, it's. It goes down the board of these newcomers, these 2026 guys. But when you think about that recruiting class, did anyone stand out to you from what Sark said or even what you saw the field?

I think his answer to you is what stood out to me. Like, as you were rolling through those names that you mentioned, he reiterated to you, those are three names that I really like. And it goes up and down the list. And I think it was an answer to another question, though. And he said, yeah, we got a lot of guys from the transfer portal, but we still have a lot of young guys. And that's what you're getting at with the 2025 class. I think it's even some of the 2026 guys that you look at. Like, the receivers that I was watching today, we watch a lot of routes on air. And I'm just saying, like, Dalem Cutchens obviously been here for a minute, but he moves different. And you look at Kaliq Lockett and you see the length and you see the way that he can go attack the football. You're like, that's how you meet arch halfway. I think I used that earlier, maybe in our roundtable, like, meet arch halfway. That's what this season kind of comes about to be about on the offensive side of the ball is he didn't get much help from receivers, from the offensive line, the blocking, everything early last year. If that can all come together early this year, it needs to. You're playing Ohio State early again. Then Texas can have a different season. But to that point, Sark kind of said, like, does it feel like everything's trending that way? And he said, I'm not sure. That's what this month is about. And then obviously, you get into the early parts of the year and you go from there.

Yeah, for two years in a row and really three, four, however long Texas schedules, he's out of conference games that matter early on in the season. So you're feeling that. That onus on these players that, hey, you've got to get it right for week two, because it's not just cupcakes at a conference, really. You have to know that if you want to play big games, it's coming early for these players. And fourth youngest team in the nation as he referenced today. This guy's not exactly young, but he's a newcomer Cord and this is someone who he was asked about and popped for me in particular is Rasheed Biles at linebacker. I mean just clearly the most athletic, clearly the fastest, best footwork of that group. And Sark noted that he had a playing coverage 40 yards down the field today that I don't think we were able to see, but really impressed him. From what you've heard from Sark talking about Biles, what are the characteristics of Texas fans should be excited for and, and how did it seem like he was talking about that recruiting process?

I mean. Well, as far as the recruiting process goes, you know, I didn't catch all of that to be honest. You're going to be able to time in better on that. But as you get to see, he lights up, man. It's a special type of athleticism. You know, you talk about the old Bob Stoops defenses, the Tampa 2 defenses. What made them really difficult was having a middle linebacker that could drop back and cover two and cover that middle of that field and then Tampa 2 and you know, with split safety zone, just be really athletic and defend that area of the field. You saw some Texas teams, the late 2000s get more athletic at the tight end with your Michael Finley strictly trying to attack. In my opinion that area of the field with Bob Stoops teams having Rasheed Biles there just be able. You can cover anywhere. You cover 40 yards down the field in the middle of the field. Like, I mean clearly you've got a ton of speed. You're going to be able to play some type of man coverage over the middle depending on what kind of concept must to do. Everything you know is going to be field dependent in my opinion. Depending on where we're at on the field is what they're trying to do in coverages, of course. But it makes it a lot of fun to think about the full bag of things that he can do from an athletics perspective. Covering the one receiver 40 yards on the field as a linebacker like shout out Drew Kelsey, we saw him do it a couple times. I. I can't really think of too many others that are capable.

Yeah, speed and athleticism were kind of the main points he brought up with files. And on that recruiting note it he pointed out like and we put on the tape and he's just getting pick six. I think there was one game with two pick sixes right and flying all over the field.

What were you going to say? I was going to say like Notre Dame, obviously, that's where I, you know, I come from. I just covered them for five years. There's been some weeks where you're looking at the schedule and this is a national talking point. Oh, Notre Dame's not playing anyway. But they did play pit last year and we're, we're scouting them for our coverage at Blue and Gold Illustrated. And he jumps off the tape. You know, you're like, like the stat sheet, the tape. You look at him, you're like, that guy plays high level football at his position. And yeah, I think you're going to see that at Texas. Absolutely.

I think his answer to you is what stood out to me. Like, as you were rolling through those names that you mentioned, he reiterated to you, those are three names that I really like. And it goes up and down the list. And I think it was an answer to another question, though. And he said, yeah, we got a lot of guys from the transfer portal, but we still have a lot of young guys. And that's what you're getting at with the 2025 class. I think it's even some of the 2026 guys that you look at. Like, the receivers that I was watching today, we watch a lot of routes on air. And I'm just saying, like, Dalem Cutchens obviously been here for a minute, but he moves different. And you look at Kaliq Lockett and you see the length and you see the way that he can go attack the football. You're like, that's how you meet arch halfway. I think I used that earlier, maybe in our roundtable, like, meet arch halfway. That's what this season kind of comes about to be about on the offensive side of the ball is he didn't get much help from receivers, from the offensive line, the blocking, everything early last year. If that can all come together early this year, it needs to. You're playing Ohio State early again. Then Texas can have a different season. But to that point, Sark kind of said, like, does it feel like everything's trending that way? And he said, I'm not sure. That's what this month is about. And then obviously, you get into the early parts of the year and you go from there.

Yeah, for two years in a row and really three, four, however long Texas schedules, he's out of conference games that matter early on in the season. So you're feeling that. That onus on these players that, hey, you've got to get it right for week two, because it's not just cupcakes at a conference, really. You have to know that if you want to play big games, it's coming early for these players. And fourth youngest team in the nation as he referenced today. This guy's not exactly young, but he's a newcomer Cord and this is someone who he was asked about and popped for me in particular is Rasheed Biles at linebacker. I mean just clearly the most athletic, clearly the fastest, best footwork of that group. And Sark noted that he had a playing coverage 40 yards down the field today that I don't think we were able to see, but really impressed him. From what you've heard from Sark talking about Biles, what are the characteristics of Texas fans should be excited for and, and how did it seem like he was talking about that recruiting process?

I mean. Well, as far as the recruiting process goes, you know, I didn't catch all of that to be honest. You're going to be able to time in better on that. But as you get to see, he lights up, man. It's a special type of athleticism. You know, you talk about the old Bob Stoops defenses, the Tampa 2 defenses. What made them really difficult was having a middle linebacker that could drop back and cover two and cover that middle of that field and then Tampa 2 and you know, with split safety zone, just be really athletic and defend that area of the field. You saw some Texas teams, the late 2000s get more athletic at the tight end with your Michael Finley strictly trying to attack. In my opinion that area of the field with Bob Stoops teams having Rasheed Biles there just be able. You can cover anywhere. You cover 40 yards down the field in the middle of the field. Like, I mean clearly you've got a ton of speed. You're going to be able to play some type of man coverage over the middle depending on what kind of concept must to do. Everything you know is going to be field dependent in my opinion. Depending on where we're at on the field is what they're trying to do in coverages, of course. But it makes it a lot of fun to think about the full bag of things that he can do from an athletics perspective. Covering the one receiver 40 yards on the field as a linebacker like shout out Drew Kelsey, we saw him do it a couple times. I. I can't really think of too many others that are capable.

Yeah, speed and athleticism were kind of the main points he brought up with files. And on that recruiting note it he pointed out like and we put on the tape and he's just getting pick six. I think there was one game with two pick sixes right and flying all over the field.

What were you going to say? I was going to say like Notre Dame, obviously, that's where I, you know, I come from. I just covered them for five years. There's been some weeks where you're looking at the schedule and this is a national talking point. Oh, Notre Dame's not playing anyway. But they did play pit last year and we're, we're scouting them for our coverage at Blue and Gold Illustrated. And he jumps off the tape. You know, you're like, like the stat sheet, the tape. You look at him, you're like, that guy plays high level football at his position. And yeah, I think you're going to see that at Texas. Absolutely.

It's really just get observations, get information in and then from there maybe learn a little bit more about the depth chart. He was a little bit like, you know, everything's a positional battle, which we know, you know, quarterback's pretty locked in.
