First things first, let's set the stage. What kind of practice was this? What, what do we expect to see from it?

I guess. Well, that was a long, grueling practice. They wore half pads, so that steps up the physicality. Physicality means you're expending more effort. A lot of tired bodies after that practice. We'll see if they go a little bit shorter tonight, maybe a little scrimmaging and, and you know, apply the brakes a little bit. But I know that took a lot out of them long day yesterday. But you know that's, that's part, part of August camp.

So a lot of heavy run stuff. But first let's talk kind of quarterback. Where are we at there?

Well, I heard Arch is good and KJ's great and you know, not, not in direct comparison, just relative to expectations. Couch it.

I don't want everybody freaking out. You know, you expect Arch to be great by at some point during this camp. We haven't heard that he's great relative to his ability. We heard in KJ's, you know, picked up right where we left off in spring. Had a big summer. We've been chronicling the guy all off season. If you're just hearing about KJ Lacy for the first time, this must be your, your time. First time checking in this channel. But yeah, I think they're in a great spot with backups and you know, we'll see. Arch has been a little off. I know everybody's seen that Cam Coleman play. That's, that wasn't just an Arch pass. Give me a break.

Well, I just got a notification. ESPN quarterback battle at Texas for the number one spot. That's, that's pretty wild, dude. Running back. What are we hearing there?

Yeah, Smothers was the first player mentioned. I know relief. Brown made an appearance on Twitter in a really nice picture. But yeah, you know, Hollywood is just so consistent. You know, likes to get inside, maximize all the carries. All the stuff we talked about, maximize the carries. Sort of a no nonsense Relik Brown, of course he will tuck it inside, but he's looking to make a big play. He doesn't want. If he doesn't have to get hit inside, he's going to bounce it and try to make a big play. But what I, what I really like hearing about, those guys are just very consistent. Haven't heard about a single bad practice their entire time in, in Texas. I think they're making each other better, obviously. Big upgrade over the position last year and then Derek. Derek Cooper here. And he's got that workhorse ability, really. Right. Likes to pound it inside, run physically wants to run people over. You know, ideally Texas can get a lead and then put him in in the fourth quarter and tire people out. You know, give him eight carries in the, in the second half and, and really dole out some pain.

So an offensive line. We've had a few guys getting different reps at that left guard spot. Go to inside Texas and you can see all of that. But the quote I kind of key in on here is they look much, much better this year. Followed by their. More physical.

Yeah, more physical. And you know, I think that even goes into the left guard battle with competition, you know, that's gonna. They're gonna get the most out of whoever wins that job. He's gonna have to be physical to win it. So bigger, more physical. We heard more physicality about Connor Robertson, even Siani. Siani is kind of like the. The bouncer on the. He's the one that's going to throw you out the club on the, on the line. The most physical guy, you know, looking to start fights, that sort of thing. You know, big upgrade on right tackle as far as just the nastiness, the way that he looks like what you would expect to be on the opposite side of Trevor Goosby. And that's no shade to Brandon Baker. Brandon Baker could be a right tackle, no problem. They think they upgraded the right tackle and also upgraded right guard with Baker over D.J. campbell from last year. So they, they feel like they're in a great spot now. Left guard is still a work in progress. Jackson Christian actually got first team reps. First team, even in the walkthrough. You know, I'm not going to read too much into that. However, we have heard good things about Jackson. We've reported good things about him. He's got a nastiness to him that you typically hear about. A guard more so than a center. And so I think that's why he's getting a shot. But it's important to know that a lot of different guys are getting chances across the, across the depth chart, not just at left guard because coaches are giving everybody a chance to win a job.

Now you're reporting on Jackson Christian. Even last year for having that temperament wide receiver, it was more of a run, focused practice. Right. So we didn't hear a ton, but everyone did just see that Cam Coleman catch. I don't know what practice that was.

Yeah, no, that Cam Coleman catch was From Thursday. I, in fact, yeah, the program tweeted that Grayson Littleton interception tip interception. And I tweeted over the top of it. I'd expect some, some Cam Coleman footage to come out because we had heard and reported about that one handed catch. I didn't know it was that spec spectacular, you know and you hear about it, everybody says everything's spectacular but then you see it, the, the adjustment, the hand eye coordination, just incredible. What a, what a talent. But yeah, Friday's practice was more run oriented. Didn't hear a ton about the wide receivers. You still hear stuff like, you know, Ryan win, more consistent with his hands and more continued good stuff about Cohen, Brown, Chris Stewart and those guys. But after one of these more pass heavy practices, we'll, we'll dive much deeper on the wide receivers.

And you went into notes on kind of every tight end. But who was the, what's the most interesting of the those three mentioned to you?

Yeah, Massunus was the first one mentioned and you know, we've talked about the others quite a bit, especially Spencer Shannon and Nick Townsend. But Massunus was the, was the first one mentioned for both his blocking and his receiving. You know, we, we call him a credible receiver. That's, that's no slight on him. I think a lot of people, once they hear inline blocker, they think that they, you know, they're not going to have any catches at all. But he's been a credible receiver. Showed that in the spring as well. It's good to hear him mentioned. Spencer Shannon's pretty much the leader in that room. Makes sense. He's been in there the longest. And then Nick Townsend, he is better than he was in the spring. I'm still looking for a few more signs to really go in on my prediction for this year. In the past I've been early on guys, rarely wrong, but sometimes early. I'm trying not to be that. In the case of Nick Townsend for this specific season.

A lot of awesome defensive stuff here as well. I'm going to key in on a few spots. So the first one is defensive tackle. We've been hearing about Justice Terry a lot, but the quote from the source is literally, oh my God, Justice Terry. So what's going on there?

Yeah, he's the best player on the team through three practices. I mean it's, you know, I'm not saying he's better than Colin Simmons. You know, cut me some slack on stuff like that. It's three practices, then he's making the most noise. He forced a fumble Last night and, and not just like, you know, a passive got a strip, he broke through the line and forced the fumble, got elite quickness, elite power. The physics are all in his favor because of how, how powerful he is and how quick he is. And you know, obviously the, the, the defense suits him amazingly like he, he might be that. We talked about the people especially when must Champ was first higher. We talked about the, the players that stand to benefit the most from that hire Justice Terry, to me, based on what we're hearing is, is benefiting spectacularly from that because of all the movement they get from the, the D lineman up front. They're not asking him a 2 Gap. They're putting them on the move, twist stunts, line games and all that stuff, looping around, whatever you want. And then so he's going to benefit greatly from the scheme and then everybody else is going to benefit from his penetration.

He had to choose between Texas and Georgia and he actually did not have to choose between Texas and Georgia with Muschamp coming up. So that worked out good for him.

Of course I, I'm going to talk about this. Biles is the playmaker crier, the communicator. Spence, the physical guy with Rasheen Biles might be having the second best camp.

Yeah, he kind of got the oh my gosh treatment too, from, from sources. Yeah, just another one that's going to benefit from the scheme because, you know, Muschamp loves to move the linebacker downhill, blitz them from different angles, different gaps. A lot of the work that he has a defensive lineman doing up front is to set up the linebacker behind him. And then you've got an elite playmaker like Rasheen Biles. I, you know, I wish everybody was at the spring game so you could see it firsthand. The, the quickness he had coming downhill is exactly what you would look for in a running back. We Talked about getting quickness to and through the hole for a running back trade. He has it as a linebacker. He's through it before it closes up. Yeah, just a tremendous player. And then, you know, crier, we know that's what you want. The steady mic, you know, the cerebral guy that gets everybody lined up, doesn't really make any mistakes. That's juice crier. And then Spence has gotten some reps at Mike linebacker. Just the physical presence. You know, I, I want to hear more about Spence and his processing, you know. You know, we, we heard good things about Trey Moore last year and, and you could see it in him, but he, he wasn't playing quite fast enough. These guys that play edge a lot or, or Sam, it's just not as natural playing off the ball. But, but Spence is a credible linebacker. We just don't know quite how comfortable he is. But obviously, I mean, he plays the way he looks.

Let's do real quick too, on kind of the star corner world. So Grayson Littleton is showing good physicality, also playing corner. And then right after that, Bo Masco is playing star in certain packages. So seems like there's some movements here even say, I think is it Warren Roberson got some first reps at corner, so kind of what's going on at that position?

Yeah, I mean, if they move Masco over to star, which they like that in some packages and you know, it wasn't lost on me that I heard that the same day I saw an Ohio State reporter, Jeremiah Smith, working from the slot. So, you know, I'm wondering if there's something tied to that. But Masco, yeah, he works in the slot some. He's. He's been Texas most reliable cover guy since he arrived. Some of that's experience, but he also has the traits for it. And then if, if he's there, they, they really like Warren Roberson outside as well. Like Warren is a credible starter for this team this year. It's just, you know, you got Kate Phillips, Bo Masco, and even Grayson Littleton, who we talked about will still play some. But they mix and match these guys, depending on the package they're in. I'm not going to really give that. Give that away yet. You know, maybe we'll hint at it on the board or something, but they've got a lot of defensive backs, a lot of different ways that they can fit. We even talked about know Jonathan Cunningham, safety, is. Is playing nickel right now. We know Xavier Fil me is moved from safety. So, you know, there's just a lot of bodies to to mix and match. And and it, it allows you to get exotic in your packages because everybody has their own strengths. And, and you know, you could say we could say that Bo Masco is a better cornerback or a cover guy than than Jonathan Cunningham, but Jonathan Cunningham size and physicality, linebacker mentality coming out of North Crowley, that sort of stuff is going to have some sort of benefit at, at the position too, depending on what the offense is trying to do.
