It definitely feels like the time is now. Texas has all the pieces. You look at where they stand amongst the rest of the college football teams, you know, at least in that top tier. And it's like, it feels like Texas is well built to battle any and all of them. But hey, you got a lot of work to do in a pretty tough regular season. Let's get to some insider notes over at inside Texas. Okay, you can see right there immediately, the first thing you see is offense needs to improve. All right? The source states that Olan needs time together. It makes a little bit of sense, guys. We do have a few returning, but you got Baker sliding down the guard, you got a new right tackle, you've got a rotation of guys fighting to see who's going to win that left guard spot. And that's a battle that might not be over after the first, you know, after, you know, we have a starter announced, if you will. What are your thoughts here, gentlemen? Charlie, let's start with you, man. The offense, the offensive line, you see some takes here regarding the O line. You see some takes here regarding our Arch Manning. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I mean, you look at the office line, they need time to jail. Like, everybody wants them to come in instantly, be this great unit. They haven't played with each other yet, you know, I mean, and like, they haven't had enough reps with each other, so they'll get that in Fall camp. Said they need to improve. Like everybody needs to improve. Fall camp has not started, so let's just see how things go when the pads actually come on in fall camp, all this T shirt stuff, it's. It doesn't matter. I mean, it matters some, right? I just want. Because it's. It's More about mental than anything without pass. When the pads come on, the physicality comes. Then we'll find a lot out about the offensive line, how they handle themselves versus the defensive line. So until then, like, ah, hope you're getting better. Hope you're learning the playbook, picking up stunts and blitzes, showing me that you understand mentally. But physics, the physical part is what I'm waiting for and that'll be like mid camp when they put the pads on. So for right now, yeah, everybody needs to get better.

Yeah, well said. Any thoughts from you, Justin?

Yeah, I heard some good stuff about Lawrence Seymour yesterday. A couple sources within the program say he is. He brought in the right mindset to the University of Texas. Again, like Charlie said, they've been in. They've been in underwear right now working out. So it's really hard to. You can get a little bit from the skill guys, but from the interior you can. Absolutely. You're not going to glean anything, but you do see buy in. You do see effort, you do see urgency. I'm told Lawrence Seymour brings urgency. He understands this was a business decision for him and that playing at the University of Texas is a business.

It's a big deal.

[Justin Wells]

And so they're going to be fighting with Dylan Sikorsky and a handful of others for that left, left guard spot. But yeah, I was hearing some good stuff about Lawrence Seymour, and so he was one of the guys that had to come in a little bit later. And like Charlie Williams said so, so eloquently, it takes time. It's going to take time. Offensive line is the 1 position in all the football where they need to be more cohesive than any other spot. And that's. I'm not taking any other positions away. It's 11 men on each side. You got to be a unit. But that O line, if it doesn't work, nothing works together. That's where it begins and it ends. And so this fall camp is going to be huge to see how flood mixes and matches. Some of those guys. They have some really good new parts and I like that they're throwing numbers at that left guard spot.

That's what I like too, man. You. You have options. You know, I feel like we had limited options there a year ago. We saw how that kind of went when none of the options really didn't really work out there. Halfway through a season, at least. But Joshie, man, is sucking up, you know, early on. Brought out the Hampson crew. We're going to take the compliment, Joshua. We appreciate it, man.

Bang. That's what it is inside Texas rolling up deep to day one Fall camp. Love that man again. Yeah, I said you've been some days I get different times as far as coverage goes. Shout out to our guy said man yeah, let's keep it going. Average row line equal illegal offense. You know what my thing my I've said if Texas has a top 20 to 25 offensive line, you could see some of the best numbers you've seen in Texas football history. Again, long way to go before that. But any agree at all there guys? Does Texas have to be exceptional on the O line to to come, you know, to accomplish some of these goals we're talking about?

I would say so when it gets to the playoffs and you play against good teams, average or line to get your butt kicked and get you out the playoffs quickly. So yeah, okay.

Sugar coating I would tell you health is the other important part. You need depth and you need rotation but boy, those first five, they need to stay healthy.

How to stay healthy and I think that's going to be a huge thing for Texas at a, you know, multiple position groups this year. Of course you always want to be healthy there. But Danny, we're going to answer that real quick. Tough to find a specific weakness on this team. Puff, possibly safety, cohesion, left guard, linebacker, comms, what you what you think guys, who and he wants to know who's going to wear the green dot.

He mentioned Crier enough and Charlie. I mean, Charlie and I get our own kind of team stuff and we share kind of our own things. Charlie, how many times have I mentioned that guy in a group text? His name has popped up a lot recently, man.

He. I was told he is what you would call, quote, a damn good college football player, unquote. Knows exactly where to line up, knows where everyone around him is supposed to line up. You know, he's got those competitive genes. His brother L.J. cryer is a guard in the NBA right now. Justin wants to get to the league. He knows a big season this year catapults him into the draft. We're not talking enough about, about Justin Cryer. You know, we had some worries at linebacker. Anthony Hill Jr. Gone. Leona LaFaille, gone. Elijah, Bo Barnes, gone. You know, there's some holes there, but I'm gonna tell you right now, Justin Cryer, I can't wait to see what he does on Saturdays next month because, my goodness, he has been such a bright spot within the program and that's

Love to hear it again. Kind of you talk about urgency, Justin. It feels like it's contagious right? And it feels like the sense around this program it is that it is the time. It's now. But let's quote the source real quick. They need to build off the spring. Always something to improve. Of course most champ is always on them about this or that but they just need to keep getting better at the things that they already emphasized. So we'll scroll down a little bit. Just thoughts there guys on what this defense is going to be working on early in fall camp. We talked about the install has been completed. What's next for the defensive side of the ball?

Continue to build mentally.

You're going to get a lot of things throwing them in the fall camp. You're trying to see what those guys can actually handle. So that lets you know what kind of game plan you can build. Right? Okay. They're comfortable doing this. We'll build as we go. So really just get into fall camp. I just want to see where they're at mentally coming back being off of the summer. What do you remember from everything else and how comfortable with you are running the defense? I think that's the main thing. No coverage bus communicate and I don't know man like will much champ play with like your hair is on fire, man. I think. I think that's the key. You're gonna see guys flying around early on but nothing matters until the pads come on. That's you know it just doesn't matter to me until I hear some of that. It does not matter to me if

it's hard to find out who exactly is all about the no thud. No play until those pads. Come on, baby. What you got for us, Justin?

Hey man. Somebody you you talk to urgency.

You're Speaking my language today, brother. Hey, Justice Terry. I've been told in the last month this guy looks phenomenal. Coming off some off season surgery, he was dealing with a little bit of few elements here and there. A lot of expectations on big boy coming in last year. You know, I think justice feels like it's his turn to, to contribute, to be impactful. I don't know if to start, I don't know if he's going to take somebody's spot, but he's going to try to. He's going to be in that. And plus I love his versatility. I think he's a guy that can honestly be an old school, strong side defensive end in a sense. He could slide in on a third down. He could do some different things. That's the beauty of Justice Terry. When you, when you see him up close, he is big and he can move very well for a guy his size. I know a lot of fans were wanting, you know, a big impact maybe out of his freshman year just because of the, the size, the magnitude of his recruitment. But it takes time. Everybody takes time. And at Texas they grow them organically and they take, they develop them over the course of a few years. And Justice Terry seems to be hitting stride at the right time, at the right moment heading into this camp.

Hey, I love that. And again, Evan and I talked a little bit about the breakout candidates and that that was Evan V. You know, Justice Terry, that you really do see some of that output that you, you know, some Texas fans expected in year one. Still a guy that had to, you know, I feel like he had to put on a little bit of weight, get a little bit bigger, a little bit stronger as he came in. Yeah. And so my big thing is like, can justice play on the early downs? Can he play and be effective against the run? Because if he is, I think he's just such an elite defensive tackle type prospect to get after the pastor that you can stunt. You can do all the twists with and do. He's just so athletic, man. It's well above your average athleticism for that position. And so, yeah, I mean, again, another positive note. You just as Terry breaks out feel great about the Texas defensive line as is just just one more elite weapon that will most champion them will have in the arsenal. There's see here on Sundry talk about best blocker at running back. You got to be able to block at that position, right? You can't just.

Is Texas going to be able to have him out there in third downs? Potentially as a guy that obviously will go out into a route tree, but then also a guy that can hang out and confidently, you know, or comfortably help protect Archmanning.

Yeah, yeah. I'm not. I don't know if I'm putting it back there to protect Arch on third down. If I got a linebacker blitzing now people like to mug our offensive line and you're gonna get a free rusher. I don't think I want really Brown. Maybe I have him bluff and go out far out. But that's a about it, right?

Okay, Barry. I just want to see where y' all are at there because again, I definitely think of those guys, the main guys, you know, the Hollywood Smothers is a little bit more, you know, acclimated to be effective in that role there. So I just had to ask. Continuing on the insider notes though, Bo Masco's versatility. Masco is a top cornerback, but he'll play nickel in certain situations. That would either move Grayson Littleton outside or bring Warren Robertson onto the field. Is this a situation where you just have so much talent back there and you. You have the luxury of bringing in Warren Rober person to play that they feel comfortable there. Not much of a drop off. If you do take a bone Masco and take him from corner and put slide him down to star or. Or nickel.

DBs are so talented that they're interchangeable. Some guys play outside, can play inside. Like the fact that you can do matchups on third down. Say this opponent puts their best receiver in the slot with Masco can slide in and little Tick can go outside or one rope and come on and you don't feel like there's much of a drop off. I think that's the beauty of flight. So much quality depth in the secondary that you don't worry about matchups. You don't worry about who's in, who's out personnel. Some of the opponents like you feel like you can match up no matter who it is. So I think that kind of speaks to that.

Well said. Any thoughts on that, Justin? Just the versatility of the Stevie room and what the plans kind of are.

[Justin Wells]

Yeah, I, I, Charlie nailed it. It. Look, I, I don't worry about corner because I, I think the star is good training ground for your future corner. To be, to be honest, it's almost like they're going to use that as the training ground. It's worked for the previous few guys. And Grayson, goodness, on any normal team in college, he's probably your starting corner. Let's be real.

Love that more. Cornerback Todd, Kate Phillips, Bomasco, two top cornerbacks, whether you're in base defense or nickel. Any thoughts there? You know, noted that you know, Littleton could be corner two in base packages. What are your thoughts there? I mean, how good of a position do you feel like Texas is in with Cade Phillips and Bo Masco again? K. Phillips finished strong last year. There's times early on, some growing pains. How confident are we in those top two cornerbacks?

[Coach Dub]

I think you're super confident. I think you look at paper, you look at what they've done, what you expect out of them, what you've seen in practice, you feel really good about it. The biggest thing, and I kind of wrote about this, one thing I worry about is when you give up a touchdown, you give up an explosive play. How do you bounce back? Do you put in the rearview mirror and say next play or do you let it eat at you? I think that's the biggest thing because these guys are going to live on the island this year. Do you bounce back once you get beat? That'd be only a question when we get into the season, though.

Oh, well said. Justin. Anything any thoughts there on CBs 1 and 2?

[Justin Wells]

No, man, I think we've kind of nailed that.

[Host (Inside Texas)]

Yeah, well said there. Go on to offense. Talk about the smartest players on offense. Again, big fan of kj. Let's see what he could potentially do if he gets his opportunity in burn orange. But arch listed there, KJ, Connor Robertson, Dada McCutcheon shout out. And then you have Cam Coleman place this position intelligently. Just has a really good feel, understanding for where he's supposed to be. Yeah, it's going to be nice to have Archback, you know, and again, not limited like he was in the springtime. Justin, just what are you looking to see out of Arch Manning these first couple of days of fall camp?

[Justin Wells]

Business as usual. No one keeps the main thing. More the main thing than Arch Manning. Like Texas Was, was really good. When Sark and the coaches were leading the squad. They weren't great, but they were really good. It's player led now and Arch Manning and Colin Simmons are the leaders. And Arch, Arch. Manning is the leader of this program. You know, I got to hang out with Crystal Conte last weekend and he got emotional talking about Arch Manning. He said in his whole, in his life of covering athletics for 30 something years, he had never seen such vitriol now from a national standpoint, towards a kid just because of the name on the back of his jersey. And he said most humans, most men would crumble to that pressure, to all of that, all that, that happened to him. What he did was he obviously got over the hump. He got better, he started developing, everything started clicking. But that locker room changed. That locker room will run through a wall for that kid. That's where it starts and that's where it ends. When it's player led, that's when you bring home hardware. And right now, Arch Manning knows he doesn't have to be Superman. He just has to guide the way. He just has to lead the path. He doesn't have to be Superman. There's going to be a few games this year where he does take off his cape. Okay. There's going to be a few games where the bat signal goes up and Arch goes nuts. But overall, he knows he's the sum of all these parts and they just gave him a bunch of new toys. So his thing right now, I gotta figure out the best way to get all my boys involved and he's just gonna take it a day at a time. If anyone is mentally prepared for this, it's Arch Manning.

Got the blood going right there. Justin, you got. I've already again, a lot of new toys for Arch Manning and Steve Sarkeesian. And so, yeah, I just want to see, you know, just see. I'd love to see, like you're just saying just leadership, just that's what that player led. I mean, you don't become player led without a lot of leaders. And it's not just one or two. You know what I mean? It's gonna, there's gonna be.

Your core group of leaders. There's going to be an extension from those or more leaders are involved. And so I'd love to hear that, man. But smartest players on defense, Justin Crier, Bo Masco. It is, it is. He's been there and done that. That's the kind of thing I'm, I'm thinking more colleges are going to look for those type kids. They're not necessarily trying to find a future NFL linebacker. I mean that'd be great but, but I don't think that's necessarily the, the vision. I think it's find a guy that understands the scheme, that fits what we're trying to do and that will come in, keep his head down, go to work and, and build within the team. Don't try to take it on his own. Justin Cryer. Listen, when you grow up in a family of athletes like high end, I'm not talking about athletes, I'm talking about plus level athletes. When you grow up in a family like that, you, you just the expectation and the understanding just kind of come with it. It's a sense within the home of a, of a constant competition, constantly getting better and yeah man, just Justin Cryer just does, he's just, he's just a really smart kid that's been through it. He, he's had playing at Florida State and he hopes he can parlay that into a potential NFL draft pick now. So you don't necessarily have to find an NFL linebacker. You just got to find a guy that's really good at playing linebacker in college football and I think they did that with crier.

I love it man. And again there's a reason that will most champ went out and and made that addition. You know what I mean? There's something there.

That said, that's the evaluation I need. I trust him a lot more than I trust myself. Strongest players on offense. Discussion bounced between weight room strength and functional football strength. There is a difference between the two. Siani Goosebie Cooper, Terry Cohen Brown. Shout out Ryan Wingo, Siani Strong both on the field in the weight room. Coach, how much are you paying attention to this weight room strength and what it means for the football field? And can you kind of get into the the difference between the two if you will?

Yeah, you can be strong and lift all these weights in the weight room, but if you can't move anybody online scrimmage on Saturdays, then yeah, I guess gonna be a bodybuilder Right. You see a lot of guys can lift a lot of weights. We've been around it. We all know, been in the weight room with a bunch of guys, and when it comes time to max out, man, it's quite a lot. They squat a lot. Oh, they bench press a lot. When you get on the field, they couldn't move anybody. Right. So that's. That's where it doesn't translate. I think the way they're lifting weights, though, it's not just adding muscle. They're adding, like, with the quickness of how they lifted functional mass and weights. Right. Explosiveness, all that stuff translates. So I can speak personally about Corn Brown. I know that kid's built like a tank. He's been super strong, but it actually applies to the football field too. So

well said and big time difference, man. I don't care how big you are, how good you look like, you got to be able to move people. You got to be able. Thud. You know what I mean? Like, the. The weight room didn't do too much for me, you know, back in this. No, I just. I don't think we're going through all of these notes. Can do another, like five or 10 minutes, guys. All right, so Tyler, you know, Tyler, you know, Tyler's situation similar to Justice Terry. Last year they went into the state of Georgia and took their best player. This kid is going to be ready to play as a freshman. I don't know how much of an impact he's going to make, but I will say this. This kid has busted his butt this summer. He's. He's been in work mode since he showed up. He's one of those kids that enrolled early.

He's had a mindset since he was 14 years old that he wanted to play in the NFL and he wanted to play major college football. So he has set himself up. His family circle is incredible. His mom, his dad, his sister, they keep this guy in line. He is such a good, strong circle. He wakes up every morning ready to work. He understands there's guys ahead of him. He understands he needs to learn from the Rasheen Biles, you know, who's taking him under his wing? Ty Anthony Smith. One, because that's what East Texas guys do. Two, because Ty Anthony is just a great human being in pound for pound, probably the best athlete in that room. He takes him. And this is off the field stuff. This is keeping him in the right circles, keeping him in the right mix. That's what it's about. And Tyler Atkinson is the antithesis of that. I can see this kid being a locker room leader in the next 24 months.

Love to hear it. And I gotta ask, you know, is there any chance that Tyler makes how big of an impact on the football field he's going to play?

[Justin Wells]

He's going to play, but I really think it depends on the guys ahead of him right now. And that's what fall camps, preseason camps for, figure out what he can do when the bullets come flying. He doesn't understand the speed of the game yet. Guys like these are all things that he's gonna have to figure out on special teams first, probably before he gets any licks on the defensive side. But that remains to be seen. I would be shocked if he's not on special teams.

I would be too, to be honest, because he.

He's a missile man.

Kind of just your. Your prototype freshman, you know, special teams cat that just. You send them down to. Yep. Yeah, I love it. He's kind of built for that. So again, that maybe that's a good adjustment for. For Tyler as he gets used to the speed of the game. Coach, I mean, there's a lot of talk about Jonah Williams, a lot of talk about the. The safety position for Texas and just how much to expect out of. To Jonah. How much you expect out of Jonah this fall and how soon to expect it. What are your thoughts, man? You can see the source here talking about he's. He's healthy, so we're gonna be able to see what he has here in camp. He can play anywhere. Field safety behind McDonald's probably the best opportunity for playing time if he can beat out black. What are our thoughts?

Yeah, like you said, the first thing, he's fully healthy. So now we get to see Jonah Williams back, maybe back to form to what he was when he came out of high school, Gatorade player of the year, I think, look, this kid can naturally line up and just be him. You put him out there on the field, I think he's gonna make plays. When he. Once he gets this opportunity, he's one of those guys you say, hey, look, don't count your reps, make Your reps count and he'll make every rep count once he gets on the field. So if it's spot duty, if somebody has to come out because the helmet came off, whatever the case may be, I think he'll get in. You won't, won't be a drop off in talent whatsoever. The way those guys rotate safeties. I think he's going to get his shot and when he does, he's going to make a huge play. It's going to be hard to keep off the field after that. So I'm excited to see what he does and how the capacity they use him. Maybe special teams as well as that. But man, I think this kid, when they go dime package, I think he's going to be on the field. They want to run three high. Look, make him the center fielder, right? Put some baseball into, make him in the middle of the field, make him be the center fielder and go get the ball. So. So I'm excited that he's healthy. I can't wait to see what he does though.

Speaking of that visitor list, I know we talked about it on Inside Texas, but, you know, a pretty big name committed yesterday as far as to the visitor list in Eastern Royal. Five star Texas. Commit. How big of a deal is that to get him on campus for that one. As I get this coaches list ready to throw up for us, Justin, it's

a big deal in, in at this moment in time, in this recruitment at this time. Yeah, this is a very big deal because right now Eastern Royal is, he's prepping for, for his senior season. He's with his brother Martin. Guys, right now he, he's getting ready to work. He's got, he knows he has a job, he has an unfinished business for his senior season. So honestly the season starting to me is the best thing possible for this kid. The absolute best thing. No idle hands and the fact that he wants to reach out and say, hey, I'm gonna be a bit, be back at Texas soon. I want people to know I'm going to be back at Texas soon. I think that's a big deal. Again, this is a data point on a much larger recruitment that we're going to continue to follow until early December when they get to finally put pen to paper. But right now the fact that Eastern Royal wants people to know that hey, I'm going to be back at Texas in a couple weeks, I'm coming back to see those guys, I think that's big. Now if Easton Royal says I'm going to visit LSU in two weeks, be surprised if he makes a trip to Gainesville to go watch one of Florida's games. He loves Coach Summerall. Don't be surprised. I think he's going to take multiple visits. But the fact that he's getting on that roster for Texas, Ohio State, that tells us Texas remains in a good position. They're in a holding pattern right now and that's really the best you can ask for when you're talking about Easton Oil.

Yeah, I feel like where Texas is right now, we should be all be very happy with that. And again, just, it's modern day recruitment for a big fish. Anything can happen but just him having plans to be on campus. September 12th when Texas and Ohio State face off in front of almost every set of eyes in the college football world, that is, that is another win there. Coaches pull. I'm not going to have it popped up but Ohio State 1, Oregon 2, Georgia 3 Texas. Texas comes in at 4 behind Georgia. I understand that. I kind of think I like the upside of this Texas team a little more than Georgia's but with Georgia handling Texas three times in a couple of seasons, I guess it's somewhat fair. Coaches do matter, of course. Notre Dame comes in at 5, Indiana 6, Miami 7. Texas A M guys. I don't know if that was surprising to y'. All. A little bit surprising to me. I think it shows that Mike Elches, Michael's coaching peers, really have a respect for him and what he's able to do in the nine, Oklahoma, 10, Ole Miss, obviously. A lot of SEC teams up there. Just any general thoughts on that coaches poll in the preseason top 10? We won't do the whole 25.

I mean, look, I don't. I don't know. I know it's fun to talk about. It's fun for ratings. People can brag on the Internet about it, Twitter about it. It'll all change once the season starts, right? It's fun to talk about. You got your preseason hype because Ohio State comes into Texas, is number one team, get a chance to knock out the number one team in front of a lot of recruits, the whole nine. The buzz around that game is going to be crazy. So I don't know. It's fun to talk about, but we'll see how it plays out. I don't know. Has the number one team ever started and finished number one?

Adrien Peterson breaks off like a big run to start the game on that first drive and you're like, oh, man, this is the offense that we thought we were going to see.

There was nothing else. The next three quarters were all Trojan. That was a dominating performance.

Y' all again, y' all know where I'm from. We were playing the Chilton Pirates in a Disney district basketball game that night. And listen, I don't like to miss anything. I don't care if it's Red Sox, Yankees, Yankees mess. It could be Oklahoma, usc. It didn't. It doesn't matter. I don't like to miss sporting events, but little me. I'm gonna record it. I'm gonna do this. I was bored 20, 30 minutes into that record. I could just see the writing on the wall. And so I go check the score, and I was like, 58, 19. Oh, my gosh. Holy cow. I'm glad I didn't sit there and watch that. Almost.

USA was also ticked off, remember, because the year before they made them split the trophy, they gave USC and half to lsu.

Yeah.

And I. I worked in South Louisiana at the time with a bunch of LSU fans, and I would. You know, I would remind them daily that they own half of a trophy. And. And if I wasn't friendly with them, I probably wouldn't be here right now, because you're either a family or your enemy down there. But, like, yeah, USC was. They were ticked off. They were ticked off. They didn't like that split in the trophy stuff. And honestly, that might have been. That might have been their best team, because if you remember, they had all their defensive guys were seniors that year.

They were better on Texas.

Didn't have to face those line. Vince Young got to face freshman Brian Cushing and freshman Keith Rivers. Like, he didn't have to deal with the. Those other maniacs. And honestly, if you look back on it, that actually helped Texas a lot.

[Host (Inside Texas)]

Where are you at? Your Oscar cycle is real important. You know, sometimes, you know, you just. That. That 04 UFC team. Team was. They were scary good. I mean, there's just no way around that.
