Welcome to the Q and A. We're actually shooting this a little bit early because Eric's going to be at camp whenever this airs. So hope you're aware of that. I mean of the flow is weird, but we take the questions from the board and we answer them in video format. Eric, you know everyone head over to Inside Texas. Eric's gonna be dropping a ton of notes and not just Eric, the whole staff. I think we have about 58 guys. They're going to be covering camp at the same Time. So one thing I noticed with the theme is this is a happy time of year, but fans are still a little bit nervous. So these questions are all kind of are you sure about this or sure about that? So let's start with the fan sentiment here. First things first, what's the word on Michael Manzunas, the transfer from Michigan State tight end? Feels like it's been a little quiet in regards to the big two way tight end transfer.

[Football Analyst]

Yeah, I agree it has been quiet. I mean, we're hearing stuff. We're just not hearing as much noise as we would have liked. And you know, Connor and I both got really excited about that. Remember Connor, I had you scout him out before it was announced and all that. And we got really excited because, you know, we really had belabored the point that Stark hasn't had the right tight ends for his scheme. And here he is, the Big Ten player, physical guy, and we think it's a perfect fit. But you know, funny thing happened along the way is Spencer Shannon kept developing as well. And so I know that makes fans nervous because they, you know, the last they saw Spencer Shannon wasn't like, he was like an all American. But Spencer Shannon, you know, he was on a good trend line and he got better throughout the season. And you know, this, we always expected this to be the year that he would break out. He's probably playing a year early. So somewhere there was an intersection between Shannon and Massunas. But Massunus is also in a learning curve that Shannon didn't have. You know, same playbook Shannon's been in his entire time. And Shannon knows the players, he knows the little moves that every, every edge is going to give him, even though it doesn't matter what moves some of those guys give you. But there's, there's an acclimation period with Massunis. We heard the same thing on the other side of the ball with Mel or right next to him with Melvin Siani too. Maybe there's, maybe there's something to it, both those guys being line mates. But I, you know, let's see, let's hear what's going on in August. We did hear him about him having a better camp towards the end and also him being maybe a better receiver than we thought. But, you know. Yep. First things first, he's got to be a good blocker.

Have you heard any of Changes potentially to how they plan to structure our runfall camp relative to previous years?

[Football Analyst]

No, not as far as practice. You know, I'm sure there's going to be some minor tweaks. Must. Champ probably is going to have some influence there. Heck, maybe even Stoops coming in from Kentucky might have some, some input. Who knows? The main change is they went back to living in dorm rooms for the first week of practice. But that's know, maybe that's significant, I don't know. But it's not the biggest thing to fans anyways.

When's the last time that they did that, the dorm room thing?

[Football Analyst]

Two years ago.

[Podcast Host / Interviewer]

It was two years ago. I don't know why it feels like farther away. In terms of zero sum, you've done a really good job at penetrating the audience with a. That's a weird way to frame it, but zero sum, that's something that you have brought up.

[Football Analyst]

It's not the audience. I want to do that.

Yeah.

[Football Analyst]

Probably not the best way to phrase that.

[Podcast Host / Interviewer]

I'm just saying that idea has become known. So in terms of zero sum, what are you hoping to hear in regards to offense versus defense in camp?

[Football Analyst]

Man, did I even answer that question? That's. That's what I need to. That's what I tend to write about before camp and at the end of camp. What did we learn through zero sum? You know, zero sum is the, the problem. The, the quandary we find ourselves in trying to figure out what's what. You know, if the offensive line is doing a really good job against the defensive line, then maybe that D line's not as good as we thought. And on the other side of the D line's dominating them, maybe it means the offensive line is. It usually falls somewhere in the middle. Yeah, it's. That's. That's really where it's going to be. That's really where it's going to start because we know the D line with a pretty strong measure of confidence that the D line is going to be good. So if the offensive line can hold its own, relatively speaking, I'm going to feel good about that. Zero sum on at wide receiver, cornerback is another good one. We chronicled that one throughout all of camp where, you know, the cornerbacks actually did a pretty good job holding their own. If you're a believer in Cam Coleman being absolute stud, then that's good news. That, that tells us that Bo Masco, who, who did the best job guarding Cam Coleman, is indeed a good football player. So zero sum, it's all across the board. And you know, we have to delegate or try to figure out, you know, is this a good sign or a bad sign? Because it can be both. And we've, we've missed things in the past, but it's usually tougher when you have four teams. It's, it's easier when you have good teams and proven commodities. Like, okay, if Melvin Sianni is losing the cam to, to Colin Simmons, it's not the end of the world because he's not going up against him every practice. But if he starts getting better and better against Simmons, it's a very good sign for the season.

And next up, man outside of health, what will be the best news to you coming out of this camp?

[Football Analyst]

I want to hear about a clean camp. You know, when I, when I confidently picked Ohio State to be Texas in the semifinals two years ago, which I hate, hated doing, and I got some fun calls on that. It was just because Ohio State played cleaner. And you know, that's, that's, that's what it comes down to when the margin for error is so small, so, so slim. You know, Texas cannot find itself in October. It has to find itself much faster than that to play Ohio State in the second week. Just came out Ohio State number one team in the coaches poll. So you have to play a clean game to win that. Limit penalties, limit assignment busts and protect the football. You know, they can't. Texas Sark can't be rounding into form, hoping to find himself going into Tennessee, you know, or hoping to find himself against ou. It just can't happen. It happens much too fast. We saw how much an early loss in the season hurt them last year.

Which true freshman gets snaps versus Ohio State and which gets snaps versus A M?

[Football Analyst]

Oh, yeah. Well, I mean, here you see it. Derek Cooper, we've been. Derek Cooper, Jermaine Bishop we've been talking about all off season. Richard Wesley has been a little bit more of a. Of late detail. I mean, we've been hearing great things about him since he got on campus. But now we're hearing that he's possibly Colin Simmons, number one backup. Now they can rotate Xena over there if they need to. Smith the rogue Wills look pretty good, but they really like Richard Wesley. We expect him to play early, possibly as early as Ohio State. And then Cohen Brown, but that's on special teams. So really only those four guys do I think will be playing a real. Not. I don't want to say pivotable, but. But not a pivotal but a noticeable role. Derek Cooper will get some carries against Ohio State. I feel strong about that. Jermaine Bishop will probably get a gadget. Look here or there. Wesley has a chance to back up Simmons. Cohen Brown is already a dog on special teams. They love what he brings. And then you talk about the gap between Ohio State and A M. Man, anything can happen between now and their injuries could force a younger guy to play sooner or just natural development here. I've got Samari Matthews. You know, we're not going to see him against Ohio State. Look at the wide receivers they roll out. But he's got a chance to round in the forum and really become that fourth cornerback after Warren Roberson. Cummings. I, you know, I don't expect much out of him this season. Maybe on special teams. And the same goes for Tyler Atkinson. But, but who knows how good they're going to get. Those two guys have the chance to get good in a hurry. We've talked about. Tyler Atkinson has had a really good summer. We wrote that two nights ago. You know, when the light bulb comes on for a linebacker like Atkinson or Cummings, guys who are so naturally gifted, you know, the coach is going to want to get them, get. Get them on the field sooner. And then a couple special teamers, perhaps Trey Davis is one. You know, I don't, I'm not predicting, I'm not predicting a huge impact from these younger guys. That's just such a talented roster and you guys have experience above them. So, you know, that's, that's a hindrance for them. But there's, there's plenty of Talent there. I'm more concerned about what they do in practice and what it says about

2027 now that Sark has a head coach of the defense in must. Champ, how much better do you think our game plans, execution and in game play calling will be on the offensive side of the ball? Follow up, do you think this will be the best performing offense in Sark's tenure here?

[Football Analyst]

Well, the second one is the easy part. I do think it's going to be the best. It's the most talented. You can just go by that and be perfectly happy with that answer. And also the offensive line, is it probably as talented as the offensive line they had in 2023, 2024? It's right in that neighborhood anyways. You know, as far as Sark's game plans, I thought were almost always pretty good. You know, I don't think it, I don't think having to worry about the defense was a in week issue for him. It sounds like to me like it was more in game, you know, PK being a little bit passive on some of these third and longer downs. Sounds like it really graded on Sark. He had mentioned some things in press conferences, you know, a few times over the years about that. I don't think that limited his preparation in week and I don't, I can't say it hurt their execution either. That's a, it's a head coach's job right there. I do think play calling within game is something that he could get better at. Understanding defense, defensive tendencies that he's going up against, communicating more with the eye in the sky, AJ Milwee up in the box. I think he can probably give more attention to that in game and I do think it might help him find a rhythm after the script runs out in game, but I don't think it's going to help his game plans all that much. I think that's overblown.

All right, we got some rapid fire here. First things first. With the future of the running back position seemingly locked up, where does Michael Terry find PT playing time?

[Football Analyst]

You know, he needs to keep chopping wood at running back and seeing if he can carve out a role there. You know, this is the, the problem that he had coming in into Texas. He didn't have a, an identified position on offense. He's still trying to find that.

Will Jelani have a better year than Makuba?

[Football Analyst]

That's a tough one too because, man, Makuba was like a wide receiver playing dude.

[Podcast Host / Interviewer]

I love Makuba. That's hard for Me.

[Football Analyst]

Yeah, that one's tough for me. But I think Jelani is going to have that type of year because he's going to an animal a field tackling machine on the field. You know, Makuba had some nice hits, notably against Arizona State. But I think Jelani is going to be better on the ground. I don't know if he'll be as good in the air.

Will Biles make me not miss Anthony Hill?

[Football Analyst]

Biles will make you not miss Anthony Hill. I don't know about Justin Cry or to Anthony Smith. You know, we might, we might show greater appreciation for Hill at times. I'm not too worried about linebacker. At least those first three.

Will Cam Coleman and Wingo surpass X and ad?

[Football Analyst]

Yeah, I'll say yes. It's, it's a totally different grouping, but I think so. Cam Coleman to me is the most talented out of all four of those. And then Wingo has just really easy ways to get him involved. He's got to convert some of those catches, of course, but it's just so easy to get Wingo involved in the short passing game. And then he's going to make his impact after the catch. I, I do think it's going to be. I, I do think it's going to be better than that, than A.D. and, and worthy. But you know, production might look fairly similar.

Why has it felt like Ty Anthony Smith has fallen off since Crier joined the team?

[Football Analyst]

Well, I mean he didn't, he didn't practice during spring ball. You know, that's, that's the number one issue. You know, we'll see what happens. I'll be tracking that position group being extremely closely in August. I know a lot of people worried about depth and I want to hear how Ty Anthony does playing Mike.
