Jay Grant’s message on James 3:5-6; 13-18 James 3:5-6 So the tongue is a small part of the body yet it boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue defiles the entire body and sets on fire the course of our life and is set on fire by hell.” Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has forgiven you.” James 3:13-18 13 Who among you is wise and intelligent? Then show it by your good behavior, in works done in humility and gentleness. 14 But if you are bitterly jealous and full of selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be arrogant and lie against the truth. 15 For jealousy and selfishness is man’s wisdom and is earthly, carnal, unspiritual and demonic. 16 For where there is envy and contentiousness there will be confusion, disharmony, and all kinds of evil. 17 But God’s wisdom is pure, peace loving, considerate, yields to others, is full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and always sincere. 18 And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. Close – How Do I Control My Tongue? 1. Realize just how destructive your tongue can be 2. Ask God to fill you each day with His Spirit, to help you guard your tongue. 3. Stop your negative thinking; Cease from bad thoughts.“ As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Instead, 4. Practice thinking good, positive, uplifting thoughts; “Think right – you’ll speak right. Think right, you’ll live right.” 5. Stay away from toxic, mental junk food first thing in the morning 6. Practice encouraging others; affirmation completely changes people 7. Be a quick forgiver

Jay Grant’s message on Jame 1:19-21 “Everyone who HEARS these words of Mine and DOES them is like a wise man who built his house upon a rock and when the rains descended and the floods came and the winds blew and burst against that house, it did not fall as it been founded upon a rock. But everyone who HEARS these words of Mine and DOES NOT DO THEM is like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand and the rains descended and the floods cameand the winds blew and burst against that house and great was its fall.” Matthew 7:24-27 And a woman cried out and said to Jesus, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts at which you nursed!” But He said, “Blessed rather are those who HEAR the Word of God and DO IT.” Luke 11:27-28 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for instruction, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 James 1:19-21 19 Understand this my beloved brethren, let everyone be quick to HEAR (a ready listener) , slow to speak, slow to take offense, and slow to get angry. 20 for our anger does not produce in us the righteousness that God desires. 21 So get rid of all the filth and sin in your life, and in humility receive the word (of God) which is able tosave your souls. If We Get Angry With Someone How Do we Deal With It? Apologize Forgive Don’t speak to others about the problem (commiserate) Pray/bless the other person Do Not Ruminate (don’t keep thinking about the problem) Who may ascend the into the hill of the Lord? And stand in His Holy Place? Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, who have not lifted uptheir soul to what is false, nor been deceitful. They shall be blessed of the Lord and given righteousness from the God of their salvation. Psalm 24:3-5 James 1:22-25 22 And be DOERS of the Word, not merely HEARERS who delude themselves. 23 Anyone who HEARS the Word but does not DO what it says, is like a person who carefully looks at their face in a mirror, 24 and after looking, walk away and forget what they look like. 25 but if you look carefully at the perfect law (God’s commands) that give you freedom, and are faithful to it, and persevere, not becoming a forgetful LISTENER, but an effectual DOER, you shall be blessed in what you DO. James 1:26-27 26 If anyone thinks they are religious (or spiritual), but you do not control your tongue, you are deluding yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27 This is pure and undefiled religion (true spirituality) in the sight of God the Father, that you visit and care for orphans and widows in their distress, andkeep yourself unstained from the world. If anyone has this world’s goods and sees their brother in need but closes their eyes to that need, how can God’s love reside in them. We must not love with words only, but in DEED, TRUTH and ACTION.1 John 3:17-18

Jay Grant’s message during Advent on Peace “For unto us a child is born, a Son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulders, and His Name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end. He will rule with justice and righteousness from the throne of David, to establish and uphold His kingdom forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He causes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.” Psalm 23:1,2 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 “The crowd began attacking Paul and Silas and the officials tore their clothes off them and commanded they be beaten with rods. And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw Paul and Silas into prison, and the jailer put them in a dungeon and fastened their feet in stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas began praying and singing hymns to God and all the other prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:22-25 Final Word: When there appears to be no hope. When circumstances seem impossible. When you think you’re at the end and can bear no more. It’s then that God does His greatest work. All God asks is that you pray and draw your heart to Him. “Be anxious for nothing but in everything with prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6,7

Jay Grant’s message on Psalm 23:4

Jay Grant’s message on Ephesians 6:10-18 The World The Flesh The Devil The World – 1 John 2:15-17 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world, If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world, and the world is passing away and also its lusts but the one who does the will of God abides forever.” The FLESH – Galatians 5:16-21 “Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the desires, the cravings of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desires against the Spirit, what God wants, for these oppose each other, so you do not do the things your sinful nature desires. Live by the Spirit and not the law. Now the deeds of the flesh are clear – adultery, fornication, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, hate, jealousy, anger, selfish ambition, drunkenness, revelries. Know this, that those who practice these things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” The DEVIL – Ephesians 6:10-18 The Warning 6:10-12 “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God that you may withstand the schemes, the plans, and the tricks of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood (other people) but against the rulers of evil, the powers of darkness, and the spiritual forces of wickedness in the unseen world.” Our Defense 6:13-17a “Therefore, take up the FULL armor of God in order to resist the enemy, so that in the day of battle you will stand firm. Be steadfast, girding your waist with truth, putting on the breastplate of righteousness, shodding your feet with the peace that comes from the gospel. Take the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles (arrows, darts) of the evil one, and put on the helmet of salvation.” Our Offense 6:17b-18 “Take the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and PRAY, petitioning God at ALL times in the Spirit, with this in view – stay ALERT, WATCHFUL, and PERSEVERING in PRAYER for believers everywhere.” HOW TO DEAL WITH SPIRITUAL WARFARE Be ready for spiritual combat every single day, realizing the enemy may have a scheme to mess up your life. Remember, we do not wrestle primarily against other people. Our main battle comes from an unseen enemy. Consciously put on the FULL armor of God every morning as you pray. Do not wait until a few arrows find their mark. Develop a lifestyle of prayer; start talking to God all day long, letting Him know how you feel, asking for wisdom and direction, and let the Lord know all the time that you love Him. Stay alert, watchful and sober, persevering in prayer in the midst of all trouble, in the challenges of this culture, and in the weakness of our flesh. Do not lose heart ever; and do not believe the lies of the enemy When you fail, keep short accounts with God; immediately confess and turn (1 John 1:9); and if you know you are in sin today, in disobedience to God, end it and put God first in your life again. Obedience to God saves us from a lot of trouble.

Jay Grant’s message on Ephesians 5:15-21

Jay Grant’s message on Ephesians 4:1-16 “Lord, remind me how brief my time here on earth will be Remind me that my days are numbered That my life is so very brief My entire lifetime is just a moment to you At best, each one of us is but a breath.” Psalm 39:4,5 “There is a season for everything A time for every activity under heaven A time to be born, a time to die A time plant, a time to harvest.” Ecclesiastes 3:1,2 “Make the very most of your time Because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:16 Ephesians chapters 1-3 What God has done for us (For those who give their lives to Christ) We are united with Christ, joined to Him for ever and ever Everything we’ve ever done wrong has been forgiven God releases His unimaginable love into our lives God dwells in us, here on earth, both personally and corporately God does more in our lives than we could ever think or imagine Ephesians 4: 1-6 1 Therefore, I, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Live with humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to preserve the unity of the Spirit through the binding power of peace. 4 There is one body, one Spirit, one hope of your calling. 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father, who is above all and living in all of us. Ephesians 4:7-10 7 But grace has been given to each of us, in different ways, through the generous love of Christ. 8 This is why the Scriptures say when Christ ascended to heaven, he first freed captives, and gave gifts to His people 9 Yes, He ascended, after He had first descended from heaven into our lowly world. 10 He ascended higher than the heavens, that His presence might fill the whole universe. Ephesians 4:11-13 11 God gave these gifts to His people – apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. 12 These are for the equipping of God’s people, that they should grow into doing the work of ministry, building up the church, 13 until we all attain to a oneness of faith, and the knowledge the Son of God, becoming mature, entering into the fulnessof Christ. Ephesians 4:14-16 14 As a result, we will no longer be as children, tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men who seek to mislead us. 15 But speaking the truth in love, we are to become more and more like Christ, who is the head. 16 From whom the who body, held together by that which every joint supplies, with each part working properly, results in the whole body being healthy, growing and full of love.

Jay Grant’s sermon on Ephesians 2:11-22 Ephesians – The Most Beautiful Book in the New Testament It’s a book of God’s majesty (it reveals the wonder of God) It’s a book of immense revelation (God shining light in what He has done for us) It’s a book of our glorious position in Christ (seated positionally in heavenly places) It’s a book of God’s purposes in your life (redemption/sanctification/glorification) It’s a book of how to live the Christian life ( thru suffering, ministry, alertness, by the power of the Spirit, in your attitudes, thru love and forgiveness, in purity, in marriage, and in spiritual warfare). The Background to Ephesians (a) Paul visited Ephesus on his second (briefly) and third journeys (b) Ephesus is located on the west coast of Asia(my visit) (c) Extended stay on 3rd trip – 3 years (see Acts chapter 19) (d) Founded the School of Tyrannus (discipling leaders) (e) Paul trained New Testament notables – Timothy, Titus, Gaius, Secundus, Aristarchus, Sopater, Epaphras, Trophimus, Tychicus, Priscilla and Aquila, and probably Philemon (f) The Ephesian Church was almost entirely Gentile (g) Paul wrote Ephesians from Rome; the letter carried by Tychicus Ephesians 2:11-22 The Gentiles State before Christ – vs 11-12 11 Therefore remember that formerly you, who are Gentiles by birth, called the “uncircumcised” by the circumcised (Jews), done by human hands, 12 remember, that you were separate from Christ, excluded from the rights of Israel and strangers to the covenants of God, having no hope and without God in the world. The Great Transformation/Connection – vs 13-18 13 BUT NOW in Christ Jesus, you who were once far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both into one, and has destroyed the hostile wall dividing us, 15 by abolishing through the cross, the enmity caused by the Law with its decrees and ordinances, that He would make the TWO into ONE, establishing peace 16 and reconciling them BOTH in ONE body to God through the cross, by bringing the division to an end. 17 And He preached peace to you who were far away and peace to you who were near, 18 for through Him we BOTH have access in one Spirit to the Father. You Now are the Dwelling of God – vs 19-22 19 Therefore, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but are fellow-citizens with God’s people, and are members of God’s household, 20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the Cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being joined together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built TOGETHER to become a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

Jay Grant’s sermon on Acts 2:29-36 The Resurrection Chapter 1st Corinthians 15:1-6 Now I remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and you stand, by which you are saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of FIRST importance what I also received; that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, was buried, and was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter (Cephas), then to the twelve apostles, and then to 500 more. John 21:15-17 Why Three Questions? When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Peter, “Simon, do you love Me more than these?” Peter replied, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My lambs.” Jesus said a second time, “Peter, do you love Me?” Peter said, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.” Jesus said a third time, “Peter, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved that Jesus asked this a third time and said, “Lord, You know everything; You know that I love you.” “There’s one thing that I do, forgetting what lies behind, I press forward to what lies ahead, to the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13,14 “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” Winston Churchill Three Blessings Of Failure… Every failure is an opportunity to grow when we learn from it Every failure makes you stronger and better if you don’t cave in. Failure reveals how weak we can be and how much we need the power of the Holy Spirit to live the Christian life and fulfill our calling. The Availability of the Holy Spirit “Do not be drunk with wine for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Holy Spirit (literally – be being filled every day) Ephesians 5:18

Jay Grant’s sermon on Acts 1 Acts 1:1,2 (Intro) In my first account, Theophilus, I wrote about all the things which Jesus did and taught, until the day He ascended to heaven, after first instructing His chosen apostles, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Two Accounts of His Instructions to the Apostles And Jesus said to His disciples, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures and said to them, “Thus it is written that the Christ should suffer and rise again the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His Name to all nations, starting in Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:44-48) Jesus showed Himself alive to His apostles, appearing to them for 40 days, eating with them and teaching about God’s kingdom, commanding them not to leave Jerusalem but wait for what the Father promised. “For John baptized with water but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit, not many days from now. And you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and all the earth.” (Acts 1:3-5,8) Forty Days of Teaching What Jesus Emphasized The Fulfillment of Old Testament Biblical Prophecy (300 references) Revelation of God’s Word; Understanding the Word of God Message of Repentance/Forgiveness/Salvation The Call to be Witnesses; Sharing the Gospel God’s Kingdom; the Rule and Reign of God on This Earth The Promise of the Holy Spirit Coming The Power of the Holy Spirit Given The Ascension And after saying this, Jesus was lifted up and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And as they gazed intently into the sky, two men in white garments said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This same Jesus, taken up from you, will return in just the same way as you have seen Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:9-11) The Ten-Day Wait Then the apostles went back to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, three-quarters of a mile away. And when they entered the city, they went up the stairs to an upper room where they were staying – Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas, son of James. These all with one mind (in full agreement) were continually devoting themselves to prayer, and with them were some women, including Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the brothers of Jesus.” (Acts 1:12-14) Preparing for Pentecost (3 ways) They Gathered Together Daily They Were of One Mind; Unified and in Agreement They Consecrated Themselves to Prayer The Prophetic Fulfillment of the Feasts Passover – every lamb sacrificed pictured Jesus, the Lamb of God Unleavened Bread – Jesus cleanses us from the leaven of sin First Fruits – Christ’s Resurrection is the First Fruit of all who believe Pentecost – The Holy Spirit Comes for a Harvest; The Bride is Born Trumpets – Christ’s Return Begins with a Trumpet Blast Day of Atonement – Jesus Atones for Our Sins; Dies for Us Tabernacles – God Tabernacles in Us, Living in Every Believer
