THE MOVES THAT BUILD RESPECT:
▸ Hold a position — Disagree when you disagree. The world rewards people who are clearly something rather than vaguely everything. Vague people get tolerated and forgotten.
▸ Don't over-promise — Every broken promise is a small withdrawal from the respect account. Eventually that account is empty. People like you fine. They just stop counting on you.
▸ Deliver, don't explain — Be the substance instead of the fog. Hold the line instead of folding. Say the true thing instead of the comfortable thing.
▸ Be willing to lose people — The ones who only liked you because you were paying them rent will drift away. They were the audience that was costing you yourself.

THE PAYOFF:
Quit trying to be liked. The cost of it is too high. You've been paying it long enough.

Decide today that you would rather be respected, and then go earn it every single day. One day sooner than you think, you'll look in the mirror and see somebody you actually respect looking back.
