Four years ago, I reported on social worker Ursula Newell-Davis’s fight to help special needs kids. Louisiana's Health Department told her she couldn’t work because her business wasn’t needed. _ _ _ _ _ _ To make sure you receive weekly video from Stossel TV, sign up here: https://www.johnstossel.com/#subscribe-form _ _ _ _ _ _How does the government know if a business is needed? The market should decide.Bureaucrats say blocking businesses like hers helps “limit the burden on regulators." That’s absurd. “That’s just not a legitimate excuse that the government doesn’t have enough money to administer people’s constitutional rights.” says Anastasia Boden of the Pacific Legal Foundation. She’s helping Newell-Davis sue Louisiana. But It’s not just Louisiana--dozens of states have laws that force entrepreneurs to prove they’re needed. In this update video, I report on her fight, and the new way she found to help special needs kids, without government interference....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo6KXckkU-0
Politicians say they can “fix” the economy. But economists Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises pointed out how government “fixes" lead to bigger problems.Hayek and Mises predicted the fall of the Soviet Union. They warned that centrally planned economies fail. But today, socialism is popular again. New York and Seattle have elected socialist mayors. Many politicians still believe that government can manage the economy—an idea popularized by economist John Maynard Keynes.Keynes was revered. Politicians love his arguments. But Hayek and Mises warned that government intervention leads to inflation, instability, and boom-bust cycles. They were right. In this podcast, Ryan McMaken of the Mises Institute explains why we should read Hayek and Mises today....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNq9BvMYDHE
The surprising thing about history's "golden ages" is that they (so far) don't stay golden.Today the Muslim world isn't known for its prosperity. It's more known for poverty and oppression. But it was once "the leading civilization on the planet when it came to science, technology and freedom,” says historian Johan Norberg....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np0sm00h2dI

Ben Franklin warned: America has "a republic, if you can keep it." If!He wasn't sure the great experiment would last. I ask Stossel TV guests, how did we make it to 250 years? _ _ _ _ _ _ To make sure you receive weekly video from Stossel TV, sign up here: https://www.johnstossel.com/#subscribe-form _ _ _ _ _ _ Americans "went out into the untamed wilderness and established towns and cities that really didn't have to lean on a central government in order to function.” says Linnea Lueken of Heartland Institute. That self-reliance made America successful. Unfortunately, today, people say, “Problem? There ought to be a law!” But the more government “fixes” things, the more control politicians have over us, and the less freedom we have. That’s not what the founders wanted. What really makes America thrive? Ron Paul, Steve Forbes, Jennifer Grossman, Grover Norquist and others explain in my video above....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cjl8YIexgU

Fearmongering media say climate change is “our greatest threat in thousands of years.” Climate change is real, but is it the apocalypse? Climate researcher Roger Pielke Jr. doesn’t think so. But just expressing skepticism got him attacked by our government. _ _ _ _ _ _ To make sure you receive weekly video from Stossel TV, sign up here: https://www.johnstossel.com/#subscribe-form _ _ _ _ _ _ Al Gore blamed extreme weather on climate change. “Every storm is different now because it takes place in a warmer and wetter world.” But that isn’t true.Roger Pielke Jr explains: "we haven’t observed changes in the frequency or intensity (of storms) that are beyond natural variability." Pielke says it’s more complicated: “The increasing impacts of extreme weather…are due to what we build, where we build, how much wealth we have in harm’s way.” In other words, weather costs more because people build more expensive properties in risky places. His research won awards and is cited by the U.N. climate committee. Still, activists hate it. A congressman investigated him, and the University of Colorado shut down his research center. Pielke didn’t back down. Now, the American Enterprise Institute supports his work. “You can’t be cancelled," says Pielke. "You can let them cancel you, but you can’t be cancelled.” His full story in the video above....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fyFbPWpZzs
