Just really the ultimate test of wills. Tonight on one hand we're going to test our tech here in house. And on the other hand we're gonna test my because we have a college football show to do. We're jam packed. We're high atop what was a sunny and is now potentially a very stormy and ominous downtown Nashville, Tennessee on this Thursday, April 16, the year of our Lord 2026. Why is it a test of wills? Well, these are my two loves. This is college football and this is severe weather. And my third love, who is really my first love, Savannah State's not in town. So this is all I have right now. And they're about to overlap. We're about to get inundated with severe storms. Don't know. They say they fixed the roof. Jesse. They say they can't hear the rain in here anymore. We're about to find out. I don't doubt that. But I do have doubts about something else. I have doubts about some teams. And you know what? I think that's okay. I think it's okay for people like us sitting here in the middle of April to say we're a little scared. We don't have it all figured out. So I'm going to tell you who some of those teams are tonight. Now, one team that we all have doubt about, it seems, is Florida State. And someone asked us about Florida State. Cause it is kind of a mailbag edition of the show tonight, by the way. And so we've got a question about that. And we're going to shoot as straight and honest as we can, as is our policy around here. I've got some schedule talk that I want to get to. Someone asked, I want to put this on your radar so you can think about it because I'm about 30 minutes away from talking about it. The most underrated era of college football, what would it be? Some of you may be 70 years old. Some of you may be 20 years old. So I know it's going to vary probably depending on what you've experienced. What is the most underrated era to you in the history of this sport and why would it be underrated? Also, I am fresh off a trip to Virginia Tech earlier this week and Tennessee. I'm going to share specifically some behind the scenes stuff from Virginia Tech, including something I have not talked about we had an experience there. In fact, I didn't just sit down with James Franklin. I sat down with a second individual with ties to Virginia Tech. And I'm going to show you some of that tonight. So we've got a lot to get to. We're jam packed. They're watching us in St. Louis, Missouri, Albany, Georgia, Louisville, Kentucky, Flagstaff, Arizona. Please, please, please subscribe to the channel. No matter where you are, the numbers continue to grow here and it is not in large part, but in whole due to you guys. Thank you so much. And check and make sure that you're subscribed if you think you are. Because every time I say that, about five people come in the comments and they say, wow, you were talking to me. I actually thought I was subscribed. It turns out I wasn't. I told you. Okay, let's dive into the show tonight. We had questions because I opened the mailbag earlier today and Dylan hit us up from Athens, Georgia. Somehow, an Oregon fan in Athens, Georgia, he said, what are two or three matchups you think will define the Big Ten and SEC this season? You know what, let's talk about it. Let's go SEC here. He hails from SEC country after all. Give me LSU Ole Miss in week three, Jesse. LSU Ole Miss in week three is classic. It's not even scheduling, really. It's like booking. This is an old school pro wrestler promoter mentality of I got Lane Kiffin who left town and he goes to lsu. And if you were to, you know, read message boards and you were to believe Twitter back then, only the basic scraps are left in Oxford. I mean, anyone and everyone who's worth anything went to lsu. Now, this is not true, and you and I know that's not true. But that's kind of how booking works. That's kind of how promoting a big event works. And so if we're promoting this game, that's what I would say. And then I've got Pete Golding who took over in the playoffs, but then this is his first full go round as a head coach and I got a $40 million roster reportedly down there at LSU. And I get to see LSU tested early and I get to see Oxford, Mississippi with a chance to be weaponized against Lane Kiffin instead of in favor of him. It's going to be must see stuff both of these teams have, but especially LSU has multiple losable games in the first month of the season. You know what, they're also all winnable games, but this is the big one. That's Week three. I'd say Florida and Auburn that same week is not going to get nearly the national run that LSU Ole Miss is going to get. But man, Florida doesn't go to Auburn a whole lot. They used to play this game all the time and they don't nearly as much anymore. But the schedule fix, playing nine games in conference per year is kind of fixing that. These teams have combined to have losing seasons nine out of the last 10 years. Stupid. That's a stupid stats inexplicable stat. So both have been below Paris, both hired new coaches. You're looking at a lot of overlap here because a lot of the headlines were interchangeable. The Auburn coaching search, the Florida coaching search and you'd see John Sumrall's name mentioned with Auburn and then he'd be mentioned with Florida and then it looks like Summerall's going to Auburn. But oh, last minute swerve classic booking again and he goes to Florida and then Alex Goelish. Arkansas. Arkansas. Arkansas. Nope. Auburn. Okay, so now the dust clears and they're gonna play each other. Both of them have new head coaches, both of them will be starting new quarterbacks and both teams, it feels like, have decent to legitimate wild card potential. Especially the one who wins this early season game will be spat out into the early to midpoint of the SEC season and they'll kind of have a little wild card vibe about themselves. Let's go to week six because that's Georgia Bama week. We went this long, long period of time. It seems like Georgia and Alabama didn't play unless they were going to play in the SEC title game. And now they play all the time. It's like a yearly tradition now. So Georgia goes to Alabama week six. This has been the most impactful matchup in the SEC the last decade. Is it 11 of the last 12 SEC champs were one or the other. LSU 2019. Yeah, there it is. The only exception there. Look at that graphic. How ridiculous is that? So it turns out when people were chanting SEC sec Jesse, correct me if I'm wrong, it looks like two brands there were doing a lion's share of the work. Wow, I heard those allegations from up north. It turns out there was a lot of validity to it. 2019, LSU notwithstanding. So Georgia is 8th in returning production this year. Bama 90th. Does home field advantage cancel that out. Also, what is Gunner Stockton this year? Doubly. Also, who is Alabama starting at quarterback? Tripoli. Also, could Alabama be starting a guy? And Keelan Russell, who is still my pick to Win that job that by week six is playing higher level ball than some established returning starters. Mo. But by the way, both of these teams, both of these programs are still really, really hard leaning towards building rosters through traditional high school recruiting, which I respect and I appreciate. Same day, Texas and Oklahoma, the same day the Red River Shootout, known by no other name on this show, is happening in the Cotton bowl, built shortly after the Civil War in Dallas, Texas. I think it's the best setting for any rivalry game in college football. I know you will disagree. I know what your reasons are. You're not going to convince me otherwise. Is Texas a machine this year? I was trying to play this scenario, slash scenario out in my head. It's more likely that even if Texas wins the national title this year, there'll be a lot of close games. That's more likely. But there is an alternate scenario where Texas just stomps everybody. We'll know by week six, or at least we'll know a lot more than we do now, whether they look like this unstoppable force. But even if they look like that, you know how you can work yourself into the trap of thinking that something's an unstoppable force and then all of a sudden that offense goes up against Brent Venables and it's like a bear trap around your ankle. It's like, where did that, where did a bear trap come from in Dallas? Well, Brent Venables said is going to get billed as Brent Venables and his defense versus Arch Manning. And it is, you know what else it is? It's Will Muschamp versus John Mattier. And John Mattier came back to play this game last year and was very ineffective and Texas won the game. And now we get another matchup because, you know, as the good Lord intended, they play this one every year. So that's the same day as Georgia, Alabama, Monster Saturday in the sec. And then lastly, at least as far as the SEC is concerned, might I hit the fast forward button all the way to week 11. And I didn't want to repeat any teams here. That's why I'm going a little different direction with some of these. I picked Tennessee at Texas A and m in week 11 as maybe a defining game. Now, there is always the risk that both of them have been knocked out of contention or maybe one of them has been knocked out of contention by this point because these are pretty difficult schedules. Now, if one's been knocked out of contention, this still could be an ultimate, you know, spoiler roll type game. It could be like a number one contenders type game. If we're going the pro wrestling route again, it could be one of those fields where maybe Texas or maybe Georgia has assumed the top spot in the conference. By that point, it's really obvious they're going to be favored against whoever they play in Atlanta. But we need the number one contender. We need to know who's going to Atlanta. Maybe this game has a lot to say about that. Could be a surprise top 10 matchup. Of course, that's a little more on the the bold end of the spectrum. Bold prediction season is nearly upon us. By the way, heads up, I'm going to fire the tweet off very soon. Just be ready for it. Tennessee's road schedule. Bradley, do me a favor and show me Tennessee schedule one more time. I just want to call this into the spotlight. Tennessee does not have an easy schedule, but they play Texas at home, Auburn at home, Alabama at home. They go to South Carolina on the 24th. We don't know how good South Carolina is going to be this year. They go to Arkansas on October 10th. That's a brand new staff there. We got no clue how good Arkansas is going to be. It gets all the way to my sister's birthday, Jesse. It gets all the way to November 14th. Happy early birthday. By the way. Before we see Tennessee go into like a bonafide, really, really hostile environment against a team that's playoff caliber Georgia Tech. No disrespect in week two, but I don't know that we're putting the CFP sticker on the jackets this year. So in a sort of weird way, I don't know, maybe Tennessee hasn't been tested on the road, the likes of which they'll be tested here. So that is where my eyes go in the sec. Welcome into the show tonight if you're watching live, Jesse, I don't hear anything so far. So far so good. Now I'm looking at radar scope right next to me and the Storms are on top of us figuratively and literally. Hey, the Big Ten schedule, I got it right here. It's pretty thick. Yeah, but I got it right here. I tried. We tried as a staff to go five different games and not mention the same team twice and we could not in good conscience do it. I have Floyd of Rosedale sitting right here on the set. We could not in good conscience throw Iowa, Minnesota in here as one of the must see games, one of the circle games in the Big Ten. So it just turns out there's going to be A lot of Ohio State in this, but that's not where I'm starting because I want to go chronologically. Oregon at USC in week four is the first game that I've circled in the Big Ten. This is not just a big test for USC, although it is that Oregon's won eight of the last 10 in this rivalry. Oregon has won four straight in this rivalry. So yes, there's the whole can Lincoln Riley get over the hump? Are they right that they've got a top 10 or a playoff caliber roster at USC? Yeah, everybody knows those questions are going to get asked. But let me kick you a scenario right quick. What was the last thing that we saw from Oregon? We saw Oregon get blasted by Indiana, Right. And then the year before that, the last thing we saw is Oregon got blasted by Ohio State. So the field with Oregon football has been, well, okay, they can get through the regular season, but man, then once they get to the playoffs, they go up against better teams and they're no match. Hey, what if they lose this game? What if all of a sudden it becomes, wow, we can't win those games at the end of the year and now as USC pulled even alongside us, that's how the talk happens. That's how it happens. This is the beginning of a crucial stretch for usc. I don't need to explain to you how big the hype machine would be if USC won this game. But they got Oregon, then they got Washington, then they got at Penn State. Back to back to back crucial stretch. Speaking of that game, my next game is October 10th. It's USC at Penn State. Now at this point, either USC is surging and they're coming off a win against Oregon and hopefully not a huge letdown spot against Washington. And if that's the case, they're 60 going into Penn State. If there's any justice in this world, USC at Penn State will be the whiteout again. If there's any justice in this world. All fingers crossed. Remember, there were big staff moves that directly are tied to this game. Danton Lynn, who was the defensive coordinator at usc, is no longer the defensive coordinator at usc. And I'm going to tell you why. He hopped a flight to State College, Pennsylvania to go work for Matt Campbell. And wouldn't you know it, he gets to face his old team here. This game happened a couple of years ago. Do you remember it? You remember that one Saturday where so many big games happened? Jesse, check me. I think that was the same day that Ohio State played at Oregon. So we had on the same day Ohio State at Oregon was a classic game. That was the Ole Miss LSU game. That was a classic game. That same day, remember Penn State went to USC and played a 5 Chow I classic. We've only given out a few 5 Chow I classic awards on this show in the history of the show because we've only done it for three years. That was a five chow I classic. 33 to 30 I think was the final score. Awesome game. We can only hope that we get shades of that this year. Let's go to week seven, very next week, Ohio State at Indiana. This has got to be the biggest home game in Indiana history. And I don't even know what the records are going to be at this point but it's got to be. It could be the best two teams in the country. It's the best two teams with or the teams with the best two odds to win the Big Ten. Right now it's Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, Michigan, USC in that order. Indiana figures to be a double digit favorite in every game up to this point. And if you don't believe me, just listen to this. North Texas, Howard, Western Kentucky, Northwestern, at Rutgers, at Nebraska. If there is one game there where they may not be a double digit favorite, it would have to be at Nebraska. I would think so we get to finally see Indiana October 17th and we get to test that transfer portal class because they lose a lot. They lose a couple of tailbacks, they lose a couple of wide receivers a ton off that defense. Oh, by the way, the Heisman Trophy quarterback is gone. And you know there's a lot of theory justifiably that this is a culture that's just going to reload instead of rebuild. Maybe they will. This is where we start to find it out. Say the same thing about Ohio State by the way. They've just kind of proven it over a longer span of time. But if you still believe in recruiting data, if you look at the on three now, you look at the rivals numbers rather for the historic last few years recruiting base that is baked into these rosters. The paper here, I don't know how much value it has, but the paper here says Ohio State's roster from a recruiting standpoint should have a pretty decided advantage. Then again it said that last year too and they still lost the game. So get used to Ohio State for a second because then three weeks later it's Oregon at Ohio State. I didn't say there weren't a bunch of big games in the Big Ten. I just told you they all involve Pretty much the same teams. This feels like a rivalry. Ohio State, Oregon has quickly just adopted rivalry status. In my mind, Dan Landing's the new Ryan Day. It has dawned on me Dan Landing's the new Ryan Day. By that, I mean Kirby was the guy who couldn't win the big one, then he won the big one, then it became Ryan Day who couldn't win the big one, then he won the big one, and now they said it about James Franklin, but he got fired. And so they're not, you know, they're not throwing that his way right now. So it's Dan Lanning who's stuck with it until Dan Lanning wins the big one, which just code for national title. Until Dan Lanning wins a national title, that's going to be the talk around him and it'll be the talk around this game. And we get to see Dante Moore versus Julian saying, but more importantly, we get to see Ohio State's offensive line against Oregon's defensive line. And friends, what we may be looking at there is the number one position groups, respectively, both sides of the ball in the country. That afternoon, I was about to move on Bradley, but that video is pretty incredible. So I'm just going to slow down and let it roll for a second. It's really good B roll. Yeah. All right, now let's move on. If you're listening on podcasts, look, I apologize. It's just some really incredible B roll. I don't know what to tell you. Michigan, Ohio State, of course, concludes this week 13. Kyle Whittingham's kind of in. I would play. I would just call it house money mode, year one. And he's going to go in there with a full season at that point under his belt, as is our picture at the quarterback position. So Bryce Underwood will have basically completed his second year by that point. Now, I know if I asked you right now, going into the year, if they played week one, who's got the edge at quarterback between these two teams? You would say Ohio State. You would say Julian Sajan. My question is, will we still be with that mentality come season's end? Who has the quarterback edge? Also, it is this period right now where Ohio State just ended that. That streak that Michigan had started. Well, we get to find out, was that a blip on the radar screen or was that the beginning of a new streak? You know, you never know when you're at the beginning of a streak. I didn't know we were at the beginning of one in, what, 20, 21 or 22? With Michigan, but we were. So those are some games I have circled in the Big Ten. Those were happy thoughts. Nobody just lost a football game there. Okay. And then parlay Pat hit us up from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, as he often does, and he said, does Florida State ever come back or are we doomed to mediocrity? I think they got to improve to be mediocre right now. Firstly, you know, everyone hates on average. Well, I mean, average is not the worst thing in the world. Bad is the worst thing in the world. This was a depressing mailbag, to be honest, because this was not the only Florida State question we got. Jesse, how many did you count? Like, between. Between half a dozen and a dozen questions about Florida State. They were all from Florida State fans, and the tone was terrible. The vibes could not possibly have been lower. This is not a joke. I attended a funeral down on the Gulf coast earlier today. The preacher who led the service from Tallahassee never met him before. We chatted for a couple of minutes. He let me know. I'm from Tallahassee. I'm a Florida State fan. And you ever talk to someone where you mutually know something's not right? Oh, no. And then the head just gets hung. It's like this right here. You just look down at the ground. No words need be said. That happened to me earlier today. And then I get to the office and I find out, oh, it's in the mailbag, too. So the win total for Florida State at FanDuel is six and a half. Now, you may be. You may be driving along the Gulf Coast. Maybe you're down in Biloxi, maybe you're down in Long beach, maybe you're down in Gulfport. I was at all three earlier today at various points. And maybe you're thinking, six and a half. That's not that bad. That's bowl eligible. You know, it's not great. It's a far cry from a couple of years ago, but it could be worse. Well, we picked up the phone today and we hit up fanduel, Mike, fdm. And we said, mike, because we have the power to do this, we said, mike, do us a favor. Could you call up the traders, fancy word for people who make the lines and set the numbers. Could you call up the traders in the other room and ask them, if we gave Florida State Florida schedule, what would the over under win total for their season be? Mike hit us up. Took him about 20 minutes. And he gave us the following information. If we change nothing about Florida State's team, but we Give them Florida's schedule this year. Their over under win total would be 4 and a half instead of 6 and a half, which would be second lowest in the entire SEC ahead of only Arkansas. So that's our entry point for the 2026 season. I don't know how to sell this team, by the way. Look how weird the graphic looks right now. We've got Florida's schedule up, we got an FSU lower third, and yet it makes total sense. That's what I want on the screen right now. I don't know how to sell this team to you. I really don't. I am a glass half full guy. I don't like being negative in spring. I really don't enjoy being negative at all. Jesse does. I don't. I'm not that kind of guy. However, I don't know how to sell you this team. We've got a quarterback situation down there right now that consists of either Ashton Daniels or. Or Kevin Sperry. I'm not knocking either of those guys as guys. I'm just saying there's not a quarterback in that group that's going to contend in the ACC in all likelihood. In fact, if I were to look at this roster, I'll give you Deuce Robinson. Outside of him, how many top 10 players at their position exist on this roster? I would say not many. And that's even with argument's sake. If you can find me a couple. So FSU gets mentioned so many times by personnel people, by coaches. They get mentioned to me as the cautionary tale that circulates the building when it comes to relying too much on the transfer portal. So as you know, a couple of years ago, FSU goes hard in the portal. They end up almost making the playoff. Many think they should have made the playoff. Well then they doubled down on that strategy and they struck out. That story has been told. So they've become like the poster child. And more oftentimes than not, when I'm talking portal with people in the personnel world and they're talking about opposite ends of the spectrum, it's Florida State on both ends of the spectrum. But the problem is you can have a boom year, but you may pay for it with several bust years. And it all comes back to a lack of recruiting foundation there. And if you cannot recruit at the at Florida State, if you can't recruit, you're cooked. You're cooked. Maybe not immediately, but eventually. So my guess on 2026. Give me their schedule, Bradley, if you please. My guess on 2026 for Florida State, if I had to pick these things right now is out of smu, at Alabama, Virginia, at Louisville, at Miami. I think there are three to four losses in that group of games and I think at Miami is one of those losses. And you'll notice what happens after Miami. No, not Clemson. What happens between Miami and Clemson? A bye week. And if they go into that bye week and they're already a three loss or especially a four loss team and that, that last game is really an ugly loss, I don't think you need to be a genius to understand what could be happening that week. And that would mirror last year where we had staff moves being made before Halloween. That would be the week before Halloween. And if that's the way the sport's moving now and a decision has to be made, that wouldn't be the most shocking thing in the world to me. Like I said, I've got zero ill will against Mike Norvell. I hope I'm wrong. I hope they win 10 or 11 games. I can't find it. I didn't predict Indiana to win the national title last year either. So there is hope for Florida State. Guys, prediction may not keep you warm. Stuff over@paintstatematerial.com could. That's warming up outside. So honestly the weather will just keep you warm. But that just means you need to go shop the short sleeve collection over there. Get you a Pate State strength and conditioning shirt. Everybody's doing it. There appears to be no downside. Bradley, I don't think you've purchased one. I'll get you one, Bradley. Bradley goes to the gym. Allegedly. Yeah, so did Jesse. Allegedly. Anyway, whatever you're doing, working out or not, I would just recommend a shirt from the Paint State store. We've got larges, we've got four Xs, so it doesn't really matter what size. Yeah,

Next up I can't believe the negative tone that people are asking us to take on the show tonight, but it's happening. Jim From Clarks, Nebraska said, we pretty much know which teams will be top 10 this year. Which ones do you have the biggest doubts about? Basically, do you see another collapse like Clemson, LSU, Penn State, etc. From last year? Oh man, that's tough to see, Jim. So Clemson, LSU and Penn State were all top 10 teams last year that finish unranked. We had two head coaches fired there. We've got a third one that is holding his torch with both hands, backed into a corner, just gripping it as tight as can be right now. Yeah, I don't know that I see that. Side note, I don't know that we're dead certain who the top 10 teams are going to be. But yeah, you're right, we do have a general feel. I would say lsu. I'm okay with LSU being there. If we think LSU is going to start the season As a top 10 team, that means they're a contender. I would say they're a contender that I have some doubts about. I'm just really hesitant to go all in on them. Knowing the injury situation and the recovery situation with Sam Levitt, you can pretend that's not a big deal. All you want to. That is a big deal. It's a big deal for anyone, much less a place where everything's new and it's not like a quarterback on a team that otherwise is just returning everybody. That's not the case. They're not even returning the staff. Except for American hero Blake Baker, but he doesn't coach offense. So can they run the ball good enough? Outside of quarterback, can they run the ball good enough? Just some basic questions that I wouldn't be asking if they were expected to be a six win team. But people expect LSU to be a playoff team this year. Clemson at Ole Miss and A and M in the first four weeks, they don't get to ease into it. This is not Penn State where they wait until the middle of the season before they're really truly tested. LSU gets tested right out of the gate. There'll be a double digit favorite against Clemson. Look, week one surprises us every year, but even if they win the Clemson game, they're back to back games. They're at Ole Miss and A and M. Those are, those are really motivated and really good rosters. So yeah, I would say it's fair to at least have some doubt there. Indiana, am I going to do this this year? The pack of clown noses is outside on a shelf right now. We haven't even thrown them away from last year's debacle down the stretch with Indiana, we will whisper doubt. Doubt about Indiana. Does the improbable just become sustainable there? Last year was very improbable. So if that's just sustained now, if that's just who they are and what they are now, okay, they have a lot of really good football players that were on last year's team that will not be on this year's team. Fernando Mendoza. But also you lose your top two tailbacks, you lose two of the top three wide receivers. Major defensive piece is gone. They did sign the number one transfer portal class. Does that mean Josh Hoover comes in and he's just like a one for one trade off? Is it just a plug and play wrench? Repeat at quarterback? Turnovers all of a sudden just aren't an issue for him. That you will not see Indiana exposed early even if they're going to be exposed because they will probably rip the spine out of the first several teams they play. But eventually they will play Ohio State, they'll go to Michigan. They got USC at Washington. So I don't know. I think there'll be a playoff team again. I think that. And if they're good enough to get to the playoff by that point, a lot of these questions have figured themselves out. But I don't have a problem having a little bit of doubt there of them competing for a national title this year, at least until we see it. And Alabama would be another one. Alabama was body bagged by Indiana in the playoff last year. Some people picked Bama to win that game. Jesse. Oh, oh, bad memories. Bama's offensive line totally reworked up to and including the coach of the position group totally reworked. You're going to have a new starting quarterback behind that new offensive line and they don't profile as a dominant team just under Kalyn DeBoer in general. Caitlin DeBoer's Alabama profiles as a team that's got to be really sharp on third down. They're going to have a lot of one possession type games in the good years. They just come out on the plus side of that and that just inserts a lot of variance into the potential batch of outcomes is all I'm saying. So didn't even mention the ground game. I mentioned quarterback and offensive line but the ground game, it's almost like a given that it's got a massively improve or else a lot of this is a moot point. So LSU, Indiana, Alabama I think are three. We call them top 15 teams. I don't know if Bama is going to be top 10 but top 15 teams that I think there are legitimate doubts about. Let's move on. There it is, Jesse. I hear it. The important thing is the roof seems like it's holding up. It's not that loud in here. They did a good job. Just a little backstory for the listeners and viewers. When we were specking out this space to build the studio, we found out that this thing basically had a tin roof. So it was very, very loud when it even sprinkled. And then the fine folks at Yahoo. Sports came in here, and they, like, soundproofed the entire room. And it is raining, like 5 inches an hour outside right now, and we can barely hear it. Hats off to Yahoo. Sports. They came through for us in the clutch. Brody from Tuscaloosa said, hey, you often say you structure the show for your viewers entertainment, but if you made a college football show purely for your own entertainment, what would you change or cover differently? Great question. I'm not going to spend a ton of time on it because the nature of the question itself indicates that I'm probably about to touch on some things most of you don't care about. But what he's saying is, I say a lot of times, I don't stack the show for me. I stack it for you guys. And if I stacked it for me, it would look different, but it would also be dumb because then we wouldn't have any viewership. However, and this may be one of the bigger shocking statements of the show's history. If I stacked it the way I wanted, we would talk way more about the G5. That's firstly. Secondly, we would get way, way more granular in staff breakdowns, talking about, you know, the best linebacker coaches in the country. But it just really doesn't work well in SEO. You guys are not searching for that a whole lot. I would do very, very deep roster breakdowns. Like, it would be nothing for me to come in here and say, jesse, tonight, what we're going to do is we're going to look at the Mountain west, and I want to know the best cornerback rooms in the Mountain West. We do it, no problem. Now, you would hear actual cricket sounds in the background, but we would do it, no problem. I love the business side of media, of college football media. I'll sprinkle it in every now and then if I think it's really relevant to a big story. But it's usually ratings death. It's like lighting our numbers on fire. You guys turn away in droves if I ever touch on that. So I think I Talk about that a lot also. I wish we lived in a world where we could do a lot more ISO segments on more teams instead of doing what we call concept segments. So let's say we wanted to talk 12 minutes on Cincinnati tonight. We could do that? Of course I could do it. Right now we're free to do whatever we want, but you have indicated that's probably not something you want 12 minutes on. So if we wanted to talk Cincinnati, what we'd probably do is bake them into what we call concept segments, which is like, biggest sleeper teams this year, five teams. I'm most excited to watch that sort of thing. A concept segment, and that's how we would be able to talk Cincinnati. Well, I would actually prefer if we didn't have to do the concept segments, and we could just say we're about to talk Cincinnati Bearcat football for, like, 10 minutes, strap in, and everyone's fine with it. But that's not the world we live in. There are a lot of concepts. I'm sitting on that. What I have decided is, you know, what if I want to talk about him, that's okay. We can just build new channels. We can just build new platforms to talk about the stuff. So just some new ventures maybe on the horizon. Not this show. This show's going nowhere. But, you know, maybe if you want to talk about something, that's okay. Just find the right spot for it. And maybe 12 minutes on Cincinnati on this show is not the right spot for that. Maybe we're starting a Cincinnati Bearcat YouTube channel. No. You haven't heard that either? No, we're not doing that. However, we may start some new things here down the road. We'll see. All right, let's move on. Let's get back on track here. More college football from Wall, New Jersey said you have to buy stock in three programs coming off losing seasons, and you got to hold that stock for five years. Whomstar you taking? I would take the University of Florida first. That is a 48 team coming off a 48 season over under total this year. Seven and a half. Florida has been an underachievement nexus in the SEC universe, and it's been a long time. Summerall will weaponize that framework. So I've been adamant since I've been going down there for several years now that the framework is there to win. Like, all the infrastructure, even the staff was there to win. And I still believe that. And I think a lot of that was proven by the fact that Sumrall came in and kept a lot of people there. I just think he'll weaponize all that. So staff, check mark front office. They made really good moves there. Check mark their records the past five years. 6 and 7, 6 and 7, 5 and 7, 8 and 5, 4 and 8. I just think over the next five years they'll be better than that. So give me Florida and then I want to go to the Big 12. I want to take Oklahoma State. You remember them, right? They did play last year. They were 1 and 11 last year. Mike Gundy got fired. Their over under win total this year is five and a half. They brought in an entirely new staff and basically imported half of North Texas roster along with Eric Morris. Oklahoma State has the best potential to me of any program out there that hasn't exploded to be the next one to explode. People are paying attention to Texas Tech right now. I really could see a world in the next 24 to 36 months where people are also paying attention to Oklahoma State. They've got the juice if they want to use it. They've got a really good head coach that they just hired. He brought really good players with him and I think if they just get one sort of boom sort of reemergence onto the landscape this year as a proof of concept, they could be off to the races. I'm buying them in the basement. They had a one win season last year, so there's nowhere to go but up. And they may in some crazy twisted way benefit from Mike Gundy not really having an NL machine or an nil war chest at his disposal. It's not that the money wasn't there, it's just that they didn't want to give it to him to use. So now they got a guy they do want to give it to. I'm hearing some stuff about Oklahoma State. I'm just saying I have already purchased stock privately. Not a real thing, but I have and now I'm doing it on the show. Virginia Tech. I know I just came from Virginia Tech. This, this is recency bias, but it's also something I believe. They're coming off a four and eight year. I'd buy Virginia Tech easily over the next five years. The reason it's easy is because they got a top 15 head coach in there and there's no sanction. In fact, I would say they're probably invested way more now than they were even two years ago financially. Like there's more money to spend than there was two years ago. And James Franklin's a builder. He did it at Vandy. He did it at Penn State, he'll do it at Virginia Tech. That doesn't mean they have to go win a national title. Look at the last five years, the win totals in order. 6, 3, 7, 6 3, 7 this year, Jesse. That's what the pattern would say, or maybe more. But it's just. It's a clear upgrade. So this one's an easy one for me. And West Virginia, I'd go West Virginia, too. I have not forgot about Rich Rodriguez. Last year they went 4, 8. It's a crazy thing happening with the West Virginia roster. So last year they had 46 guys go out. They had 52 come in. This year they had 44 guys go out. They had 34 come in. The difference is the quality of player on average that came in this cycle is a different caliber player than the types of players that came in last cycle. Recruiting Rich Rod's first year, 48th, second year, 20th. So it kind of looks like it's a wrench repeat. If you just look at the raw numbers, the roster numbers, looks like, oh, they just turned the thing over again. Well, they did, but in the aggregate, I think it's a lot better. Average quality of player on the roster. And kind of like with Oklahoma State, I think they need one year where it just pops a little bit. Don't have to win 10 games, but pop a little bit. And then I think they'll get some downhill momentum. So I would take those four teams. Next up, good question here. Jesse King, the one. True. Jesse from Tennessee. Oneida. Oneida. It's in our state. We got to be able to pronounce it right. Anyway. True. Jesse asked, what is a moment in college football that you think people don't talk about enough? Well, I got to be honest with you, Jesse. When I read this earlier today, I read it as era, and then I didn't look at the graphic again. So I just put down the eras that I think people don't talk about enough. I don't think people talk about the mid-90s through the mid-2000s. Enough in college football. You could make an argument that this was peak college football. Now, I would say about a decade later, but that has a lot to do with when I was born. But if you looked at the mid-90s. Let's go 1995 to 2005. In those 11 years, we had 11 different national champs. There were a couple of years where there were split national champs, but in those 11 years, Nebraska, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, FSU, Oklahoma, Miami, Ohio State, LSU, USC, Texas. There's no Repeat champs, I think Nebraska split with Michigan in 97. And what was the other year? LSU, USC in 2003. Yes, but the point still remains. We had unique champions every year. And you'll notice it wasn't all from one conference. See, kids, this was back at a time where college football, they were split into these things called conferences, which at the time were decided by something called regionality. And that meant that if you were USC playing in Los Angeles, you probably weren't playing conference games against someone in the state of Maryland, per se, or the state of New Jersey. Not that there's anything wrong with that, although there is. Then. The other thing I would say is we've still got all the best announcers. I mean, if you do your power rankings, or maybe even your Mount Rushmore, Brent Musburger is going to be up there. Musburger is throwing heat in this period. Keith Jackson is in his prime in this era. Uncle Vern is still with us in his prime in this era. All the big boys are calling the games. We've got competitive balance. I mean, we got a world where Nebraska can win a national championship. Not that they quote, unquote, can't now, but they were. It was a great time. So I would say that. And also the fact that the regular season was everything. And if you're 18 years old, you've never lived in that world, coherently, at least, you've never really lived in that world. But back then, we had a national championship game, but that was at the end of the season. Bowl season was still great, but the regular season was what everything revolved around. And that is me. That's my personal preference. It's like when I was growing up, they had installed lights at Wrigley Field by the time I was growing up, because they did that in 1988. But even when I was growing up, they still played a vast majority of Cubs games during the day at Wrigley Field. But they had started playing night games. And you would hear all the old timers say, boy, this isn't the way it's meant to be. This is not the best version of Cubs baseball. Now, I despise the Cubs organization. As an Atlanta Braves fan, however, I respected that. When I got off the bus at meemaw's house at 2:20pm I could turn to WGN and I could watch Ryan Sandberg losing 98 games a year, but I could watch him. And I would hear the old timers say, boy, it used to be every day was a day game there. That was when Cubs baseball was at its best. Well, I talk about college football like that back when the regular season was what everything revolved around. Solely that was college football as best. And then we put lights in college football, Jesse, or as some people call it, the college football playoff. The other thing you could touch on is the Saban era at Alabama. Not that it was overlooked. Everyone was paying full attention to what he was doing at Alabama. I think it's overlooked in that people don't really fully appreciate the impact it had on the sport. And it's for a lot of negative reasons. For people who weren't Alabama fans like what it did to expectations for other programs. How many people lost their job during that era that in another era not only would have kept their jobs, they may have won a title themselves. I think as we get like, I don't know, like another 10 years removed, I think we'll appreciate that more. So yeah, mid-90s through mid-2000s, the Saban era. Yeah, I would say both of those. I would circle both of those. Is the rain over? Jesse? Did we make it? We're okay. We made it. Yeah, I handled that better than I thought I would. I admit it. I'm a control freak. How am I supposed to pronounce this name? Let me do this slowly to suggest Bradley, this is not going on the cut. Nicholas Von Spakovsky I did okay, keep that on the cut. Nick. We'll call him for short. From Blacksburg, Virginia. Said any good behind the scenes stories from visiting Virginia Tech on the speaker series? Yes. Yeah, I got some stuff I didn't tell anyone we did. I'm going to show you in just a second. I went up there and Prez and I went up there, drove it, drove all the way to Blacksburg. Nice little scenic drive. Sat down with James Franklin. Before we did that, I went and spoke with a group of students. Our friend of the program, Colby Crawford, does really good work covering Virginia Tech and will probably do really good work running for president one day. Spoke to a group there, walked across campus, talked to James Franklin a lot of buzz in the building, as you would expect. A lot of chips on shoulders in the building, as you would expect. Before I walked in the building, I'm literally leaving my car from the parking lot across the street from the facility. I'm walking to the facility. Who walks out the door, Jesse? Brent Pry. First person I see, Brent Pry was the head coach there last year. He is now the defensive coordinator there. It's a very unique situation. Maybe like a one of one situation. He got fired. The guy he used to work for, James Franklin, takes the job. Even James Franklin admitted to us he thought maybe he would take other jobs. And he admitted, he said, I was on the phone with Brent Pry a lot because I wanted Brent Pry as my defensive coordinator. But then when I realized I was taking the Virginia Tech job, I thought to myself, man, that's the only place I'm not going to be able to have Brent Pry is my DC because surely that can't happen. And then Brent Pry said, you know what? Actually, I'd be okay with it. I got a lot of respect for it because that is the ultimate pride swallow moment in the history of swallowing one's pride. And so I talked with him. I love Brent Pry, man. I wish everyone could meet Brent Price, an awesome dude. And so that's a unique situation. But you know what it's all about around, there's just investment. I remember being there two years ago and talking with some of their people behind the scenes about, you know, the nil thing was it was new, but people were starting to really get a sense of what it was and where it was going. And I mean, they weren't comparable to Miami, but there were a lot of other programs out there that, like, historically you wouldn't stack above Virginia Tech that were in better positions financially than Virginia Tech. So then to come back there two years later and realize, hey, James Franklin's taking this job, but he's taking the job because he's really gotten the assurances that he needs behind the scenes, because he knows, doesn't matter how good a coach he is, doesn't matter how good a staff he hires, if they got better players than you, more times than not, you're losing the game. So I'm not sitting here telling you they're about to go outspin Miami. No one hardly does. No one in that conference for sure does. But I'd say Virginia Tech's going to be a top five spender in the ACC this cycle and beyond. And I was not ready to say that a few years ago so if that's the case, they'll be okay. Here's another crazy thing that happened. So I'm up there and I'm talking to a lot of people around the building. I think we were scheduled to sit down with James Franklin, like 6:45 in the afternoon, early evening. So we're talking about. And then Michael Vick and his staff are there. Michael Vick's the head coach at Norfolk State, by the way, for those of you who have not been keeping track. I've never met Mike Vick before. Always wanted to. I have been very much on record and have talked on this show several times about how great a success story I think Michael Vick is, because he was great once upon a time in college, and then he revolutionized the NFL, revolutionized video games in the process. Then gets arrested for some of the most horrific stuff that you could ever see someone get arrested for. Goes to prison for it. That's the end. 99% of the time, that's the end. And he's Persona non grata the rest of his life. He's just, like, excommunicated from society, and rightfully so for the rest of his life. That's how that story normally ends. Then he comes back and plays in the NFL again, which in and of itself is insane, but completely pulls the nose up on his life. Not just his career, but on his life. And since then has been an absolute model citizen and has worked in everything from prison outreach to animal advocacy groups to becoming a coach, ultimately. And so I'm talking to him and we're talking about this stuff, and we're like, wait, do you want to. We already have the camera set up. Do we want to do this? And he said, be happy to. So I didn't tell anyone that yet. We sat down with Mike Vick as well, and I always appreciated that. I've heard him speak a little bit before, and he never shies away from the worst parts of his life. And once he said, I'm willing to talk about that, I said, all right, let's do it. So I'm going to tee up about a minute and a half of this that we recorded with Mike Vick the other day. This was unplanned, but it was a really awesome experience. I view you as one of the best success stories in the modern American sporting landscape. It couldn't be like that, though, without the bad. I don't think it could be like that without the bad. So we've seen a lot of guys get themselves in trouble. Yeah, many of them just disappear. You never hear from them again. Your story is the total opposite. And I want to ask you, when you're sitting across from a guy, could be a player, this could be another person, how different is it? How much do you feel them lean in because you can share that stuff, and then all of a sudden, it's no problem for them to be vulnerable to you when you're sharing that kind of story with them.
Michael Vick
I'm really just waiting for the moment our conversations can be cordial and be genuine. And I'm getting to know you and getting to like you or maybe creating an opinion about, you know, that conversations. But at the end of the day, I'm hoping that they ask me questions. I'm hoping that they inquire about the things that I might have been through or, you know, the things that they might have seen me do or go through. And, you know, that's just. That's, you know, for them, forward thinking. For me, it's an opportunity and it's in a, you know, a situation where I could teach in. And so that's what I'm all about, man. I don't shy away from it. It's unfortunate that some of those things happen, but God chose me to be like a beacon of success for, you know, what success can look like, you know, if it ever go, you know, in the opposite direction of the direction you don't want it to go in. So I just use that as an opportunity to make people better.
Josh Pate
It was an awesome trip to Virginia Tech. Yeah, I mean, it's really, really a weird dynamic. Like, if you've ever been around someone who has an elephant in the room aspect of their past, you know that it's always hovering over the conversation. And so, like, I was talking to him about that and he said, oh, I want people to ask me about it. You heard him talk about it there. So what am I going to do? Run from it? It happened. It was horrible, and I got to own it. And so, you know, Michael Vick's a guy that's pretty strong in his faith, too. So Michael Vick said, well, that's got to be your purpose. From then on, your purpose is take the worst parts of your life. Know that somewhere, someday down the road, someone's going to be able to relate to it, but it's useless if you don't utilize it for good. And so then he came on camera, talked about it. It was really, really good experience. But I had never met Michael Vick before in person and would, would gladly do that again. So hats off to James Franklin and his staff for having us up there. It was a really fun time. Cannot wait. Year one cannot wait because there's an outside shot that they make some noise this year, but it's just good to know the program's in a position where they can be competitive in talent acquisition. The rest of it, I think, will end up taking care of itself. Right now, the exclusive odds provider of the show is FanDuel. That's not just a right now thing. That's an always thing. However, there's no need to crinkle the paper like that. However, Jesse has informed me that the NBA playoffs have begun. And I do mean Jesse had to inform me that the NBA playoffs have begun. But you, you can partake in that if you want to. You don't simply have to be wagering on the NBA. You go bet the the Las Vegas A's, the Oakland A's, the Philadelphia A's. You can bet any A's you want to over there on the on the run line. Here's the key takeaway. New signups at FanDuel. You bet $5 and you win. You get $250 in bonus bets. Boom. Just like that. Is that free money? Basically, yes. And so go over there and bet $5 on the surest thing that you can find and then reap the rewards. They'll just land in your account. You won't hear this magical sound. You'll log in and say, I'm $250 richer than I was. And that's a good feeling, especially in this economy.

Let's wrap up with this. The Truth Teller series continues. Kevin from Salt Lake City hit us up. He said, I love the Truth Series, but I need one About Dion in Colorado we have not talked about Deon on the show in a while because we got accused of clickbaiting. You know, we are not clickbaiters around here. I am not clickbait pain. The noise on both sides of the Deion conversations kind of quieted down. So there were a bunch of people who were big time haters on Deion Sanders and the entire concept. And then second year in, they win nine games, and then those people shut up. And then people who defended Dion, they were as vocal as you could possibly be. But then last year fell back to earth a little bit, and so now everybody's just kind of in wait and see mode. It feels like for your. What is this, Jesse, fourth year? Yeah, year four and beyond. So the second season that he had out there, to me, made everything worth it. Like, I really think the second season going nine and four was just a miracle, really. No other way to describe it. If you had watched Colorado football for any length of time, for them to go 9 and 4, for them to go 6 and 6 would have been a miracle for them to go 9 and 4. Just crazy. From that point on, I said, and I still maintain this, he could go on the rest of his time there, not win another game. And he is vastly overachieved. If you told me at any point he's going to win nine games in a season because it was taking them like three years to win nine combined games before he got there. If he's going to win nine games in a single season, it's been worth it and then some. And he has overachieved as far as I'm concerned. I still feel that way. So last year they fell back to 3, 9. They could go 012 this year. And I would say the Deion Sanders experiment was a success and an overachiever because that's how low the bar was for Colorado football before he got there. But you notice what happened, because that's not really the way it works. What happened was the second season made everything worth it. But then the second season also had a little poison pill because it set a trap. On this show we call the trap the recalibration of expectation. It goes a little something like this. Let's say there's a guy who lives in Plano, Texas, can't stand Deion Sanders. And so he's the kind of guy who says, deion's gonna flame out, man. He'll never win anything at Colorado. I'm saying he'll never win more than four games in a season. Okay, then Dion wins Nine games. Well, then that same person, instead of saying, whoa, he. He doubled the highest win total I ever thought he'd get in a season. Instead of saying that, he says, well, he's never going to win the Big 12. Well, he's never going to make the playoff. And then Colorado falls back to earth, and that guy sits in Plano, Texas. And instead of saying, good for you, Deion, you prove me wrong, he says, I told you so. That's called the recalibration of expectation. I try not to do that. I try and define what I expect of you. And sure, my opinion of you can change as things go on, but I try my best to judge you off of a fair, preconceived notion that I didn't change on the fly and, like, artificially inflate to the point that nobody, you included, could reach it, could meet it. But too many people recalibrated the expectation for Deion Sanders in Colorado, and then they won three games last year, and then everyone pops the balloon. But I will maintain my stance that he made Colorado the epicenter of college football for a little while. Now I'm speaking in past tense. Maybe it'll happen again. It's really hard to duplicate that, because the bottom line is they haven't figured out quarterback since Shedeur left. They also had Travis Hunter on that team. They had a Heisman Trophy winner on that team. So, yeah, if we're telling the story 15 years from now, it's probably likely that we're saying the 2024 Colorado team, that was one for the record books, and that was the peak, and then, come what may, the rest of the way, it's more likely than not. That's the way it goes. I'm just saying, even if that is it, like Dion could have left after that year. Remember, a lot of people thought he was Jesse. The book was, well, he'll stay there until Shedeur's done. He'll stay there until Travis Hunter's done. And just so happens they won nine games in the process. It would have been so easy to say, I'm out. Plus, he had serious health issues. It would have been so easy to say, I'm out. But he didn't. And he stuck around last year, and they won three games. And I saw someone the other day talking about spring game attendance, by the way. That's how you know, we're totally off the rails at Colorado. We're hating on spring game attendance out there. I think Dion's been a success at Colorado because I know Colorado. That's our show tonight. Appreciate you guys so much. I'm gonna use Jesse's umbrella. I'm gonna get to the car safe and dry and I'm gonna get home and eat some dinner. Appreciate all of you guys. Make sure you subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. We will be back here Sunday. Until then, for director Bradley, producer Jesse, I'm Josh Pate. Have a great early start to your weekend and God bless.
