Now living in Nashville, the cosmic country crooner Cassandra Lewis has spent a lot of time moving around. Her last two albums - Always, All Ways from 2022, and 2024's Lost in a Dream, were well-received spending time on both the Americana and triple A charts, and got a lot of play on Open Air. She's getting ready to release a new, fully independent album - In Love and War, and performs one of the new singles American Sickness, as well as songs from her earlier albums. She also talks about her career, what it was like to go from a major label to an independent artist in this JPR Live Session. In addition for her show at the Copper Plank in Medford, she'll be on the West Coast with dates at High Sierra and the Oregon Country Fair. Russian pianist Olga Kern may be the most accomplished and prized classical pianist to ever breeze into the JPR studios. She arrived with only a minute to spare before her scheduled JPR Live Session, and spent half an hour talking with JPR Arts Reporter Vanessa Finney and playing Rachmaninov and Debussy before whisking off again to the Britt Hill to rehearse with the Britt Festival Orchestra.The program for the BFO’s opening concert includes Olga in the starring role for a performance of Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini. Britt Music Director Norman Hyunh also leads the orchestra in two Czech masterpieces: Smetana’s The Moldau and Dvorak’s The New World Symphony. The concert begins Thursday, June 18th at 8pm. Daniel del Pino in the JPR Studio with JPR's Vanessa Finney(Vanessa Finney / JPR )Spanish pianist Daniel del Pino is no secret to classical music fans in the Rogue Valley. He’s performed alongside cellist Amit Peled several times over the past year locally, but this time he’s performing a solo program of Flamenco-infused works from turn of the century Spain including Albéniz, Granados, Turina, and De Falla, along with French composers Debussy and Ravel.After a whirlwind couple of days that included performing at the Rogue Valley Manor and teaching a Master Class at SOU, Del Pino dropped in for a conversation and live performance with JPR Arts Reporter Vanessa Finney.Daniel Del Pino’s concert will also include nature-themed poetry by Tiziana DellaRovere, and takes place Sunday, May 31 st at 3pm at the SOU Music Recital Hall in Ashland. Sage Cook got his start in the band Elephant Revival. He and Aera left Colorado in about 2013 to start a subsistence farm in Kansas. Missing music, they started the band We Dream Dawn, originally adding a drummer to their lineup about 10 years ago. In 2025, with a full band, they released the debut full-length from We Dream Dawn - Love Undoubtedly Underlies Everything. They've been touring this spring as a duo, with their cat, and camping at hot springs. The Wood Brothers are touring on their latest album, Puff Of Smoke, and the 20th anniversary of their debut, How Not to Lose, which is being released for the first time on vinyl. The Wood Brothers sound incorporates elements of rock, folk, blues, gospel, and funk. Tyler Ballgame - the nom de plume of Tyler Perry - grew up with music. After performing in musical theater in high school, he went on to study songwriting at Berklee School of Music in Boston. He struggled for a while after college and eventually decided to move to Los Angeles. He worked days in a Real Estate Office and played Open Mics at nights where he was discovered by producer Jonathan Rado. Working together they crafted his debut - For The First Time, Again, in about a month. He blends classic rock and R&B sounds for introspective songs that showcase his dynamic voice.
