Kennedy
Hello and welcome to this episode of Kennedy Saves the world. It's Friday. It's happy hour. Kelly Kigs is back. Cheers to you, Kelly. Kids.
Kelly Keegs
Hey. Cheers. Thank you so much for having me back and for happy hour. What a treat.
Kennedy
Yeah, this is a raspberry 75.
Kelly Keegs
Oh, my God, that's delicious.
Kennedy
I've been on a Chambord kick. Stay with me. It's gonna be like this for a couple weeks. So it's gin and Chambord shaken and then it's like three quarters of an ounce of each and then strained into obviously a champagne flute or glass.
Kelly Keegs
Yeah, it's gorgeous.
Kennedy
And then topped. I used Underwood sparkling rose bubbles.
Kelly Keegs
This is much more than I even would have imagined. I thought we were probably gonna end up having like a glass of wine. And I walked in and you're mixing up like you've got a whole thing going.
Kennedy
I love it, like throwing for real poodles.
Kelly Keegs
I felt like I was getting the red carpet, you know, and I do have red hair. Exactly.
Kennedy
Thank you.
Kelly Keegs
And that is why I dyed this color.
Kennedy
You obviously host Taylor watch on barstool. Let's talk about Taylor for a little bit. Because there was, you know, the, the misinformed were like, Taylor got shut out of the Grammys.
Kelly Keegs
Oh.
Kennedy
But that's not the case.
Kelly Keegs
No.
Kennedy
No album came out in October.
Kelly Keegs
Yes.
Kennedy
And the deadline for Grammy consideration was August.
Kelly Keegs
Was August. Yes. Right around the time if people are crossover fans of Sabrina Carpenter. When her album came out, I believe it was like one week or five days before the cutoff, if you're looking for the exact date. But yes. No. Life of a Showgirl was never going to be up for consideration at the Grammys this year, and so she's coming for it next year. Okay.
Kennedy
Do you think that it will be too much of a lag?
Kelly Keegs
No, because I think that this type of thing has happened before, especially with Taylor. A lot of her albums have come out in the fall time and. And it's almost always after the. The Grammy submission. And normally it's never an issue. So if they are, you know, Grammy nominated songs or the album itself is Grammy nominated, but we won't know until next, you know, winter.
Kennedy
So in terms of what's coming out this year, like is Chapel Roan coming out with a full length album? You know, Del Rey?
Kelly Keegs
That's. I wonder. It seems like the men are coming out of the woodwork this year. We've got Harry Styles has an album coming out. Zayn going on tour right now. Like the One Direction Boys. Louis Tomlinson just put out an album, like. And I think, too, like, trying to think what other men. All of a sudden, all the guys are like, it's our turn. You know, because Taylor's not putting something out right now. But the girls have really dominated the last few years, especially in pop. And so I'll be surprised, or I wouldn't be surprised to see a few other people try to slide things in there. I think Billie Eilish might even. Might be even coming out with something.
Kennedy
Yeah. I mean, but she won a Grammy.
Kelly Keegs
She won a Grammy for an album that came out two years ago. So that was an interesting thing as well, because that album hit me hard and soft. Came out around the same time as Torture Poets Department, maybe within a few months of each other. And that came out in 2024.
Kennedy
Yes. No, torture poet's department came out earlier.
Kelly Keegs
Yes.
Kennedy
And then Taylor released the rarities the week Billie's record came out. And Billie Eilish was obviously very upset.
Kelly Keegs
She was saying that it was blocking on the charts and whatever. And this is a conversation that's always had, like, if you're charting on, you know, Billboard, wherever it is, and someone else kind of comes through. If you're an artist who blames your song's lack of success because of the success of other artists, I don't love that. I think that's, like my least favorite thing that the artists have been doing. But Billie did something that she resubmitted her album. She, like, created a couple extra deluxe versions of the songs and resubmitted it for consideration again. And that's how she was able to win Song of the Year this year for a song that's two years old. So that's kind of a way around.
Kennedy
I like that song. It's a nice song.
Kelly Keegs
Yeah, it's a nice song. I was shocked, though. Shocked by the Wind.
Kennedy
Loved Abracadabra, though.
Kelly Keegs
Same.
Kennedy
I felt like I should have won a little bit more for that.
Kelly Keegs
I couldn't agree more. I think that she, especially Mayhem. I've loved this album so much, and I've. I've always been a Gaga fan, but Mayhem really is just. It's so different and exciting, and I think she tried out a lot of different styles. And I felt like the album itself maybe should have deserved a little more. A little more love, a little more fanfare.
Kennedy
Did with something that it's very easy for a musical artist to lose connection with when they get into acting.
Kelly Keegs
Absolutely right. And it's whatever.
Kennedy
Whatever that Muse is sometimes when you get to. In your head, when you're acting like, it leaves you because you need to have that creative spontaneity.
Kelly Keegs
Without question. We'll look at Ariana Grande. Ariana Grande is focused right now on acting. And she said she also put out a deluxe version, I think five or six songs of her latest album, which is excellent, by the way. I love a big Ariana Grande fan as well. But. But she is having a hard time right now separating the two. She's going on tour this upcoming summer for Eternal Sunshine, the album that came out she never got to do a tour for. But then next year she'll be on. She'll be in the West End doing a play, Sundays in the park with George with Jonathan Bailey. And so she's.
Kennedy
There are worse things than staring at the water on the Sunday.
Kelly Keegs
Yes. I love. That's amazing. So I. I think that it is clear that if you are an artist and you have different creative outlets, if you're able to do them all at once, you're superhuman. But I think that you certainly need to focus in on acting versus singing. If you're.
Kennedy
Yeah. Talented. I mean, look at Jared Leto.
Kelly Keegs
Right. Right.
Kennedy
Phenomenal actor. But I think if he had his choice, 30 seconds to Mars would be.
Kelly Keegs
He loves being a rock star more. Yeah, it's very clear.
Kennedy
It's so much fun being a rock star.
Kelly Keegs
Totally. Of course it is.
Kennedy
Yeah. And it's great because as an actor, like, you get to wear Prada and you get to be chic and handsome. Fond over.
Kelly Keegs
You get to be a little more like the craft, you know, versus. Versus being shocked and torn apart and.
Kennedy
Being a hunk of meat.
Kelly Keegs
Absolutely.
Kennedy
I know he loves. So let's talk a little bit about the Grammys, because people are still talking about it. Obviously, like, the political statements got the most attention. But I thought some of the performances were amazing.
Kelly Keegs
The performances were excellent, and that is why I tune into these award shows. I know that every time there's an award show, whether it's the Grammys or anything else, I do think that there's a level of, you know, of posturing or. Or conversate. You know, everybody wants their voice to be heard and they feel like they're contributing to the cause, and I applaud them for that. But I. I'm there for the performances. I want to see the outfits. I want to watch Sabrina Carpenter crush it. Every single year. She does amazing performance, but she agreed.
Kennedy
She really can't dance. So that was the thing about Manual. Like, I loved the Performance. I loved the set. It was very. Catch me if you can. Totally. And then I was like, oh, my God, she looks like Joe Biden with an arthritis flare up. You know, when he tries to dance on the White House lawn? God rest his soul. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I was like, wow. She's like our new Dua Lipa.
Kelly Keegs
She kind of is. I think that her. The, like, model that she's after right now is very. Is very showgirl. It's very performance theater. Kind of taking inspiration from older performances, like last year's Grammy. She performed a big opening number where she was going up and down stairs in a funny way. And it was very like, Goldie Hawn or Women of that time. And I think that she's kind of found her niche. I've seen her concert. I saw her in concert twice, her latest tour, and it's very much like that. Like, everyone kind of dances around her, and she's. She'll run into something, and then she'll kind of walk. Waltz over here and waltz over here. But she's got my attention.
Kennedy
She has a great voice.
Kelly Keegs
She can sing like nobody's pissed.
Kennedy
And she's. She's tiny and beautiful. And I watch her. I go, I wonder if she was a gymnast. I haven't looked enough into a background, but I just, like. I just assume that. That she was like a teenage gymnast. I.
Kelly Keegs
You would. You would think that because she's so tiny, she's just, like, always a performance.
Kennedy
Addison Rae has a very flimsy voice, which didn't surprise me. Somber, though. Got the place raging.
Kelly Keegs
Somber is excellent.
Kennedy
We're so excited to get up and dance. It was like they lost themselves in his moment.
Kelly Keegs
Absolutely.
Kennedy
And that made me so happy.
Kelly Keegs
I. I love him. I think he's wonderful. Not a song of his do I skip, you know, like, every time I hear it. I think that he's. He's really kind of carving his space out. He also got a little nod of approval from Taylor Swift. She was doing radio interviews when her album came out, and she had mentioned that he was one of the artists that she enjoys. So he is a big fan of hers as well. Loves it. He's riding that high still. But I will come to defense of Addison Rae for a second, because I think, first of all, I think that she was. Did a little dirty for that performance. I loved the medley as a whole.
Kennedy
I think. I hope they keep that forever.
Kelly Keegs
Me too.
Kennedy
It is the coolest thing, seeing the contrast of all the different people and the different styles. The artists that you haven't heard of or you're not familiar with and the ones that you're really rooting for, and I. I love how they're in slightly.
Kelly Keegs
Different settings, without question.
Kennedy
And I think that compared to Lola.
Kelly Keegs
Young, totally different vibe.
Kennedy
Contrast is just amazing.
Kelly Keegs
And they are totally different vibes as artists. And I think Addison Rae and her album that has come out this year that was nominated. She was nominated for Best New Artist, which people were shocked by. I was not, because I listened to that album. And if you really listen to it, it's very clear how much work went into that album and how much she cares about it and how she really is just trying to, like, express her art. Did I think she should have won? No, of course not. And she didn't, so it's not a big deal. But when they had her doing her performance for Famous A Gun, which is a great song, I think that it was so. It was a lot of moving parts, and she's jumping up on cars and whatever, and it, like, kind of doesn't showcase that she can sing. Not like. Not like, you know, Olivia Dean or an Alex Warren or something. But she does have this presence, and I felt that that wasn't the best way to show it for her. But luckily she just kind of goes with the flow. She's not bothered by it.
Kennedy
You know, she's a great dancer.
Kelly Keegs
She's a great dancer.
Kennedy
Great proprioception. She knows what her body is at all times.
Kelly Keegs
Oh, I wish I had that. I just don't. I feel like, you know, I got.
Kennedy
Long limbs all over me from just bumping into things.
Kelly Keegs
100. A little drawer I'm going by. Forget it. No, but she. I. I think that it was nice that she was there, and I'm happy that, like, the Grammy Academy acknowledged the work that went into her album because I think that she, you know, coming from TikTok, like Alex Warren with his song Ordinary, the praise that he gets for the one song, and no one ever talks about the fact that he was a part of the same hype house as Addison Rae. They just are like, wow, this artist, Alex Warren, he's from TikTok. And with Addison Rae, she gets that. Well, she's a TikTok artist. Like, she can't be taken seriously. And I don't love that.
Kennedy
No, I think it's true. It's very easy to be dismissive totally if you see. See someone as being superficial and like, you know, Dixie d'. Amelio.
Kelly Keegs
Right, Exactly. Right. And so I think. But, yeah, I was happy to see her there. I wished that she, you know, I liked the song that she chose. But it's really hard now to go and listen to Addison's songs. Fast paced after. Did you see Ben Platt's rendition of Diet Pepsi on the Las Culturistas Culture Awards? They do like Bowen, Yang and Matt Rogers do like a big thing. And Ben Platt, famous, you know, theater actor, et cetera, he sang a slowed down version of Diet Pepsi. It was like, brought a tear to my eye. It was so beautiful. And I wondered.
Kennedy
Brian Adams redoing 1989.
Kelly Keegs
Exactly. And I kind of had hoped for Addison to do something like that, to kind of show like, look, I, I can play and have fun, but I can be serious too. But I understand why they went the way that they did.
Kennedy
Don't go anywhere more Kennedy Saves the World right after this. This is Ainsley Earhart.

That was, I, I loved that so much. Like, I had chills during the d' Angelo Roberta Flack tribute, which I thought was awesome. It was indulgent, stunning. Yeah, it was very long. Yes, but I loved it.
Kelly Keegs
It's all very long. All of the In Memoriam was very long.
Kennedy
Yeah. And I had to write my piece for the Daily Mail right afterwards. So I was up till like 3, 3:30 in the morning, I bet. And I was like, I'm looking at my watch like, oh, it's gonna be done at 11. I was like, ha, ha. No, no.
Kelly Keegs
We were all like wiping sleep out of our eyes, being like, when is this? You know?
Kennedy
But Ozzy's family just brought to tears by that performance. It was so beautiful and satisfying and heart wrenching all at the same time.
Kelly Keegs
I felt the same way. Whenever we see the Osbournes, especially now, like, you have to think about the fact that, yes, they are a famous family. Ozzy, of course, is famous in his own right. They had the reality show for a while. We have had glimpses into their real lives. That makes us a little more connected to them, I think, than a normal family of a famous rock star who passes away. And to see, you know, Sharon doing her best, Jack trying to get into it, and Kelly clearly moved by the whole thing. It really was, it was. I was happy to see them There and out of the house. But I, you know, you feel for them. It was just awful.
Kennedy
But they needed that and we needed to see them together. Like consuming a tribute to their beloved Ozzy.
Kelly Keegs
Exactly. And it's their father, husband. You know, it's a totally different level. Like, we. Ozzy will, you know, speaks to his own fans in a certain way, but you have to remember they're. They have a whole life that we don't even know about, you know, and.
Kennedy
You knew every single person on that stage, Post Malone, Duff slash Chad Andrew. You know, they all do what they.
Kelly Keegs
Do because of Ozzy Osbourne, without question. And.
Kennedy
And that's what made that so awesome. So I love that. I love seeing Wyclef join Lauryn Hill.
Kelly Keegs
Oh, yeah.
Kennedy
For their version of Killing Me Softly.
Kelly Keegs
It was like the whole place went crazy. Everybody singing to that. Oh, my gosh.
Kennedy
That just sent Crypto arena into an absolute frenzy in a different layer of the stratosphere. And I loved it so much.
Kelly Keegs
I chose.
Kennedy
And I was like, everyone was talking about Billie Eilish, I was talking about Billie Eilish, but I was like, I hope people stayed for that. I hope people are moved by that, because that is what music is supposed to do. That is what music. Regardless if you have political differences with the people who write and perform, that is what music is capable of.
Kelly Keegs
Without question. The. The connection, the emotional connection. And that is really, I think, a good reason to tune into these shows. Not only do you see, you know, great performances and whatever like we were talking about before, but it feel. It's nice to feel those things from those kind of people. Like, they obviously are doing the performance Killing Me Softly. And then they pan to the audience and you see all of the artists that are nominated standing up singing. Chapel Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, they're all sitting there singing and going off. And it's just so nice that to see actively this music transcending generations and kind of being brought to people that maybe have never seen it before. And I think it's the best way. Growing up, all I did was watch award. I was so excited about every award show. You know, video music awards, didn't matter what it was. And I think that especially now, it's the best way to find new music. You know, it's hard. There's so much music coming out all the time. But I feel like the award shows are a good, you know, tentpole at least.
Kennedy
Yes. And they do a good job of incorporating legacy artists that people who tune in once a year will recognize. And these new incredible voices because it gives you so much hope.
Kelly Keegs
Absolutely.
Kennedy
If there are people that are moved and inspired and creating music at this level, it's like music's going to be just fine. And it will continue to save us.
Kelly Keegs
Of course. Well, and it always. Here's to that.
Kennedy
Kelly Keeks. Yay. You are a rock star in your own right.
Kelly Keegs
And so are you. Should we go? Should we take over the Grammys next time?
Kennedy
Consider it done.
