Kennedy
Foreign. Hello.
Jessica Darlove
Welcome to this episode of Kennedy Saves the World. I feel like I'm interviewing myself today. Jessica Darlove is here for happy hour. Cheers. Here's a little teeny tiny shot because I know you have to go on the five.
Kennedy
Yeah. Now when people tweet at me, they're like, are you effing drunk? I'll be like, maybe. And I'm Kennedy.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah, that's right.
Kennedy
Should we tell our new best story? Tell the name? No, I'm just going to say a very Fox host of prominence.
Jessica Darlove
Yes.
Kennedy
No one is on at 3 o' clock in the morning.
Jessica Darlove
Nope.
Kennedy
I was at an event with her. We had a nice conversation.
Jessica Darlove
And it was not Dana Perino, by.
Kennedy
The way, who is Definitely not at 3 o' clock in the morning either. But not that that's a bad slot. I don't know if someone is on on that. I did not mean to offend you. Whoever's on at 3 o' clock in the morning. I'm just saying this host that, you know.
Jessica Darlove
Yes.
Kennedy
I went out of my way to be super chatty, complimentary. I was like that pink suit that you were wearing the other night. Oh, in the night. Okay. Anyway, you look great. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. Then we're like lining up.
Jessica Darlove
Chummy. Like friendly.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
And like, how nice.
Kennedy
Like how nice. And we don't know each other that well. Lining up for this photo. I'm gonna stand here next to Kennedy and also in front of a bunch of our other colleagues who are all like.
Jessica Darlove
And did this person really believe that?
Kennedy
Maybe.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, that is fantastic.
Kennedy
I don't know. Didn't ask.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, that makes me so happy. Because you told me that I'm like, oh, she likes me maybe.
Kennedy
Well, yeah. No, actually, because you were super nice and Jessica's still that. That a hole.
Jessica Darlove
I think it's the best.
Kennedy
It's pretty good.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
Yeah. Because it's also just like you're all the same for all the, like, people that are like, oh, of course. You know, we know the differences between everybody. It's such like. Oh, brown hair.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
Not even a similar brown.
Jessica Darlove
No.
Kennedy
Different glasses.
Jessica Darlove
Mine is much darker.
Kennedy
Yeah, look at this. I don't. Natural highlights. But like, look at anyway.
Jessica Darlove
Different glasses. Yeah, Mine are face off. Face. What are yours?
Kennedy
What do you mean? Oh, the brand.
Jessica Darlove
Brand. Yeah.
Kennedy
Oh, Oliver Peoples.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, nice. Those are cute.
Kennedy
Were. I'll get a little morbid about it. These were my dad's last glasses that he was wearing. And then I went and put my lenses in.
Jessica Darlove
I Think that's lovely. I think that's very sweet.
Kennedy
And I've done it with a bunch of his pairs, even when he was still alive. I was like, your glasses from the 90s are incredible. I'm going to go use them. But it was so funny because they're Oliver Peoples and they make the buffalo horn version. And they also make a plastic version. And I had the plastic ones in, like, a nice camel color. And he was like, I love those glasses. Can you get me a pair? And this was when he couldn't even walk anymore. I was like, yeah, I'll go over and get them for you. He was like, how much are they? I told him. He's like, there must be a nicer version of that. I was like, well, there's buffalo horn. And I was like, do you want those? And he said, yeah, how much are they? And I told him, and he's like, yeah, definitely. I was like. He goes, I get it, I'm dying, but I still wanna look good on my way out. And I was like, great. And then I got them.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, that. But that is such a nice way of seeing things. It really is.
Kennedy
Like, from him.
Jessica Darlove
Yes, totally. That's such a. You know, it's like. Cause that means that he's an optimist.
Kennedy
Well, he didn't. I'm curious if you're trying to turn happy hour into a dead dad or. But he didn't think he was dying until, like, we actually decided, like, two days before that he wasn't gonna go back to the hospital. And my mom said the. We were talking about it, she was like. I'm pretty sure that as he was, like, taking one breath per minute or whatever, he was like, you know what? I'm probably gonna beat this.
Jessica Darlove
Feeling pretty good.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
Maybe we should schedule those tennis lessons in the spring.
Kennedy
Totally.
Jessica Darlove
But that is so common.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
And so. And there are people. And it's the most interesting thing, but I love it because it means that human beings fight. Like, they really fight. And they're like, I'm here. Like, cogito ergo sum. I think they're 4am I think I breathe, therefore I am. Like, I exist now, today as much as I did 15 years ago.
Kennedy
Right.
Jessica Darlove
And. And I think there is something actually very, very beautiful about that. A good friend of mine whose husband passed away, let's see, about 10 years ago, and he was in his 40s, he. He was like, no, I'm. I'm fight. I'm good. And I was like, that's amazing. Talking to Him. And then I would talk to his mother in law and she was like, this family. And there's always someone in the family who are like, we have to come to grips with this. Like, there's the realist. And you know, but the rest of the people are like, no, let's continue the party until they shut the lights off. Like, let's keep raging.
Kennedy
I wonder about, for the people who refuse treatment for whatever they have. I wonder if there's some part of them that doesn't want to get what they perceive as this false hope that you can make it. Because I feel like once you get into the fight, yeah, you get this I'm going to beat it thing.
Jessica Darlove
But also with our innovation, there's always a new thing.
Kennedy
There is.
Jessica Darlove
It's like with, with some of the beauty treatments that we go through.
Kennedy
I mean, we're 15.
Jessica Darlove
Like, there's always a new thing.
Kennedy
We're 15. Yes.
Jessica Darlove
But you know, think about it. It's like, well, there's immunotherapies, there's biologics, you know, there's a clinical trial around the corner.
Kennedy
Just get in.
Jessica Darlove
There has to be something for me.
Kennedy
Yes. Yeah. And most of the time there is something you can try. It's just too far and few between. I think doctors that are really objective about what's going on. I've been thinking about that a lot.
Jessica Darlove
Like, I think they get, I think they get, I think the doctors get addicted to false hope.
Kennedy
Well. And to the success of whatever they're doing.
Jessica Darlove
Yes.
Kennedy
Because they're like, oh, I have this one person. And you're like, okay, well one, one made it and then how many passed away? Right. Or who didn't have good outcomes. But I'm not poo pooing. I mean, if you're listening, do the trial, like try to stay alive as long as you can.
Jessica Darlove
Absolutely.
Kennedy
Right. But it's so, I mean, death is weird.
Jessica Darlove
Death is weird. But that's, you know, and it's, it's very interesting because I have a friend who lost her husband recently, totally unexpected, in the middle of the night.
Kennedy
And he just died.
Jessica Darlove
He just died. 53. And you know, it's. And I told her what I told you and what I've told other people. Like grief is very dynamic and, and you think you're going to be over it at some point and you're just not. And it's like a river that makes turns and like one day there's rapids and one day it's completely calm and it just, it keeps going. Yeah, it's the most fascinating thing.
Kennedy
It is a very weird journey and you get breaks from it and then it comes back. I meant to ask you, does your dad visit through the girls? My dad is through Cleo constantly.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, that's very interesting. How so?
Kennedy
Like, she'll say, grandpa, Mark is making pancakes. He made pancakes every day. She says, grandpa's in the elevator. She will? Yeah. It's really weird. And she'll talk about him more when my mom is around.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, that's amazing. So she must hurt, like, her senses. Yeah. So, like, her intuition is as well developed as her other senses. So she.
Kennedy
But she's not blocked.
Jessica Darlove
We shut down intuition as we age. And, you know, because it's painful, because it's scary. But if you don't know that and your intuition is as open as your sense of touch and your sense of sight, like how you feel and perceive someone is as real in that realm as it is in the others. I think that's fascinating.
Kennedy
Yeah, it's fabulous. And I told you, my mom has this great medium that has good access to my dad.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
And she asked him about it, and he was like, oh, yeah. Like, I'm with Cleo all the time. Oh, that's so sweet.
Jessica Darlove
Because he can be like.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
They find people that they. They can make that connection with. Because I think, you know, and. And I have no data to back this up. I just think it takes less energy. Exactly. I mean, there's.
Kennedy
It's not about the feel.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
Happier.
Jessica Darlove
Yes. But if you've got someone who, you know, who's already an open vessel, like, it's much easier to dock in their port.
Kennedy
Totally. I mean, every movie does that. Right.
Jessica Darlove
Do you dream about your dad?
Kennedy
Not that much. I have. I've never dreamt about him sick. So clearly I haven't gotten to that phase.
Jessica Darlove
I don't. I don't know that. You ever dream about them sick. I think they. I think they inhabit an ideal that I've heard is 35.
Kennedy
Oh, well, that's what we are. Exactly. Because of Morpheus 8. So. Do you get visits?
Jessica Darlove
I do. And. And so the last time I dreamt about my dad, I called my mom the next day and I was like, I dreamt about dad last night. She's like, so did I. And she was like, what did you dream?
Kennedy
What were you guys, though?
Jessica Darlove
Yeah, but so, I mean, we're both, like, kind of open and connected in that way. Don't go anywhere more. Kennedy Saves the World, right after this.
Kennedy
This is Ainsley Earhart. Thank you for joining me for the 52 episode podcast series, the Life of Jesus A listening experience that will provide hope, comfort, and understanding of the greatest story ever told. Listen and follow now@foxnewspodcasts.com or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Jessica Darlove
But I've also dreamt about my friend's mom who passed away, and she also passed away, like, 10 years ago, maybe more. And I will dream about her very frequently, but she visits me in the most amazing. It's like she's taking me to the coolest celestial level where I get to glimpse for just a little bit with her. Like, I'm her plus one for a little bit. And so one night, she took me up in some sort of a plane, and we could look down and see the whales at night. And they were like. They were like, neon and iridescent. And I'm like, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen.
Kennedy
That's awesome.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
And then you were super close with her.
Jessica Darlove
I was close with her, yes. And I told her daughter and. And I had to stop telling her because she was like, oh, I never dream about my mom. That must be nice. And I felt really bad because. And then she opened. Yes, in a way. But I think sometimes when people are that close to you.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
Like, you either don't remember it or it's, you know, it's just something deeper that is inaccessible. But the Justin Baldoni Blake Lively thing.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
Like, he would tell her, oh, I have dreams about your dad. And I realized, like, that is such a cruel manipulation and also not provable in any way. And I don't believe him. I think he was just saying that to, like, either freak her out or make it seem like they had a level of intimacy that they didn't.
Kennedy
So you're Team Blake. I'm.
Jessica Darlove
I'm kind of Team Neither.
Kennedy
Okay.
Jessica Darlove
Because I think they're both sociopaths. And I think that because this is.
Kennedy
A wild journey, because I was so sure.
Jessica Darlove
Yes.
Kennedy
That I was Team Blake. Then I started seeing the PR people's text. Then I saw his counterclaim, and apparently she's going to gear up. She's gearing up for another release of something.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
But, like, if you asked me right now, I'd be like, blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are getting divorced and will never work again. But, like, I don't know.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah, it's true. I mean, I don't know if it's true they're getting divorced, but no, it's true that they. They are not Blameless in this whole thing. And I think when you're that famous, you set up layers of insulation. Insecurity.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
That protect you from this stuff. And you just like ghost people and.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
You know, you freeze people out in order to control situations.
Kennedy
Normal.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
Anymore. They live around the corner from me.
Jessica Darlove
Really?
Kennedy
Yes. And they go to the same coffee shop that Brian, my husband, goes to, and they appear very normal.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
They, like, go and get coffee and a piece of banana bread and you're like, oh, my God, the world's best looking people also eat banana bread. Or whatever. And then you see stuff like this and you're like, oh, actually, we don't live on the same planet at all. And I hadn't realized. I mean, I guess I knew, but she's so young.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
Like, she's 37. Wow.
Jessica Darlove
And she's got five kids.
Kennedy
Four.
Jessica Darlove
Is she pregnant with her fifth?
Kennedy
No. That's what she was mad at Justin about. No, I'm kidding.
Jessica Darlove
She was so sorry.
Kennedy
No, I think it's just four. The four girls, maybe. Who knows? But. So she's been with Ryan like, her whole life. Yeah, her whole adult life.
Jessica Darlove
So I have been told, because Pele recently started watching Gossip Girl, that I'm not supposed to like her because she doesn't like her in Gossip Girl.
Kennedy
That show is so good. And you also can't help but be so happy about, like, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody that it just brings. Millennials are so seen in what's going on. And then I was so sad. You know, they're on the red carpet and then their house burned down in the fire. I guess they were near you.
Jessica Darlove
It doesn't matter how rich you are. No. And it's like. And the fact that people are using that as a justification. I know.
Kennedy
Like the Mandy Moore hating.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
Even my sister was like that a little bit.
Jessica Darlove
And I was like, and Zooey Deschanel lost her childhood.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
And it's like. But that's still. You're a family. Like, all of your memories, all of your mementos. And I had someone at work, you know, say, how's your house? And I said, my house is still standing, thank God. You know, we're gonna have to gut the whole thing because there's smoke and fire damage and all that toxic crap that gets into every layer of your house that you can't get rid of. And you don't know what kind of long term health threat that poses.
Kennedy
We were supposed to talk about it on the Five the other day, but we Got preempted because Trump likes our rating. So he comes on at 5:00'. Clock. No, just kidding. Love you, Mr. President. But we were talking about this and are supposed to in the toxic ash. And like, my dad died out of a 911 cancer because we lived in the neighborhood. I don't know how people can be so cavalier about this. Like, you should just go right back into your structure, like, let it breathe a little bit. No, but it was the back and forth. But. I know, but there's is too long in 18 months and Trump is too fast and, like, could go right now and start rebuilding them.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah. And. And I know, like, because everyone I've talked to, this is just a couple days ago. People have been able to access their homes or what's left of them for the first time. And people are so scared and they're so frustrated and they're not getting answers. And then we hear Karen Bass, like, yeah, I'm just going to hire an outside consultant to build the whole thing. It's like, what the hell does that mean?
Kennedy
Right?
Jessica Darlove
And I don't. I don't trust her worldview. I trust the free market much more. And it's like, I look at Rick Caruso's place, and his was the only establishment that's still standing. So it's like maybe we let that guy, you know, consult and build everything if people want to.
Kennedy
Well, I think the guy that they brought in is very good. What? At least one of the consultants he built. Like, what's the new center? The new. Not. Not whatever. The Staples Center. There's like another big.
Jessica Darlove
Okay. Yeah, I know.
Kennedy
Yeah, he's like a real guy, but of course. But also, Rick Caruso got to build that, what, like, 10 years ago. And all of the restrictions or whatever. What's the right term? I'm like, this is me a great episode of the Five. I'm gonna be like, this is not because of the alcohol. Really outdated restrictions on, like, what codes. Yes. So that applied to the housing, but not to the new shops or whatever he built. And he had private firefighters, which I can't blame him for either.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah. I don't know if they were there, but I think that he put fire retardant on his building. And, you know, it's like, people don't have access to that. But he knew that he would have to because he also knew that there wasn't gonna be water because he had been on the water and power board. Yeah. So I hope it's not to keep Rick Russo out of the Process because he's a political opponent. Like, that would be absolutely disgusting.
Kennedy
I think people would be very.
Jessica Darlove
But people, people are frustrated people. It's, it's so emotional because. And I was talking to a good friend of mine who lost her house. Single mom. That's all she had. That was her asset. And, you know, she doesn't know what the recourse is going to be. She doesn't know she'll be able to rebuild. But she said the thing that gutted her was the preschool. And I found out when I was sitting next to you on the five, that our beloved preschool, where our children were nurtured, and it was so down to earth and wonderful with so much parental involvement and just the most amazing teachers. When that burned down, I, like, it shattered a piece of me. I think that was the hardest thing for my daughters because they have such beautiful memories from that time. And they're, you know, it's like, everyone there, everyone who has lost everything, there's no consolation that everyone else lost everything. Like, you think there would be.
Kennedy
No, it's when I told Brian that story and about the tiles that you were saying, like, each kid who goes to the school has a tile that they keep up on the wall. And he was like, are you trying to make me cry? Cuz just thinking about, you know, if you're, you know, we have little girls.
Jessica Darlove
I went through my pictures and found their tiles, and it, it made me so sad.
Kennedy
You got to, like, blow them up and.
Jessica Darlove
I know.
Kennedy
Or something.
Jessica Darlove
I know. And I, I, I want to talk. I know there's a person at the preschool who's trying to gather as many tiles as they were able to salvage. It's so sad. And, you know, it's like, for my friends who've lost everything, I'm like, how do you replace that stuff? Like, that's, People don't care about chairs. And, you know, it's like.
Kennedy
And if they do, you care about them less.
Jessica Darlove
Yes.
Kennedy
You're just like, the stuff.
Jessica Darlove
Like, I had Jonathan Hunt grab two pieces of art that my daughters made in preschool. Like, that's the stuff that I wanted. And, you know, it's like my $750 million in gold bars. I'm just kidding.
Kennedy
Bob Menendez, is that you? My friend from high school's dad is a judge who sentenced him.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, my gosh.
Kennedy
Sid Stein looking at you.
Jessica Darlove
Yes, Sid. Yeah, I think Sid did the right thing.
Kennedy
Definitely. I'm not sure if Trump pardons him. I feel like Trump is more likely to pardon Adams than Menendez Very interesting.
Jessica Darlove
I think.
Kennedy
I don't know why.
Jessica Darlove
I think I know because I think Adams did a 180 and was like, where's ice at? Yeah, come arrest everybody. I love you guys.
Kennedy
Maga. Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah. I don't know.
Kennedy
It'll be really interesting, but I love how anyone who gets in trouble now is like, I'm a victim.
Jessica Darlove
Like Donald Trump, who runs in 2028 now. I mean, things are happening so fast. I think Gavin Newsom is wounded after the wildfires. I don't think he has the donor base that he did. You know, all these people who watch their homes burn, I don't think they believe in him anymore. I think the California dream for him has eroded. I definitely think Josh Shapiro.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Jessica Darlove
I don't think J.B. pritzker. I don't think America will ever elect a fat president.
Kennedy
No. We'll do a lot of things.
Jessica Darlove
Well, a fat, short president, never.
Kennedy
Right. I think it's really the height and the weight together.
Jessica Darlove
But I do. I do think. I think Shapiro Fetterman is making a run right now. I think aoc.
Kennedy
Yep. I don't. But I think of those people, like.
Jessica Darlove
Shapiro is in a much better position.
Kennedy
Shapiro. I think Whitmer will.
Jessica Darlove
I think she's awful. She killed old people.
Kennedy
She what?
Jessica Darlove
She killed old people. As many as Andrew Cuomo. Oh.
Kennedy
But I think it's possible Andrew Cuomo tries to run.
Jessica Darlove
Oh, dear.
Kennedy
Every mayor of New York City.
Jessica Darlove
You know what? Our politics are so weird. None of it surprised me.
Kennedy
No. If you could have at this moment running our city a competent gangster, would you do it?
Jessica Darlove
If he lowered taxes? Yeah, I would.
Kennedy
Well, he's not going to do that.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah. If he lowered taxes. Like, if you could have. Whoever says I'm lowering taxes, I will lay down.
Kennedy
There is not a person who wouldn't take him out back.
Jessica Darlove
Bloomberg. Yeah, maybe. I mean, he's like 750 now.
Kennedy
No. Fine. Bloomberg. Tenure. If you could just have the orderliness.
Jessica Darlove
Yeah.
Kennedy
Of the city back.
Jessica Darlove
No, I want. I want a safe Central Park. Like, I don't want to have to look over my shoulder when I'm running through Central park.
Kennedy
Just to see people you leave in the dust, they're.
Jessica Darlove
They're not there because I'm so far ahead of them. I wish I was a fast runner. That'd be the best. All right. Go do the five.
Kennedy
Cheers to cheers to you and family.
Jessica Darlove
To dreams and defining tiles in the ash. Delightful. This has been Kennedy Saves the World, along with Jessica.
Kennedy
