the day, not that you know. Fox News podcast rues the day that they gave me a podcast a thousand episodes ago.
Tyrus
You are the iron man of tv Iron Woman.
Kennedy
I wish it counted.
Tyrus
Cheers. And to another thousand more.
Kennedy
And then. Classy Kennedy. Sassy sage. Oh, Jimmy Baylor.
Jimmy Fala
I must have missed the invite in the mail.
Kennedy
Did you write this?
Jimmy Fala
You're damn right I did.
Sage Steele
I've been obsessed with her for decades.
Kennedy
Here it is.
Jimmy Fala
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes, I do. Yes. A thousand episodes.
Kennedy
Hello and welcome to the 1000th episode celebration of Kennedy Saves the World. That's right. We are here at my favorite watering hole in New York City. Langan's, the most gorgeous and welcoming bar you could ever stumble into. And believe me, it's right across the street from Fox. And we have stumbled in here and crawled out of here a number of times. It is lovingly referred to in Fox lore as Studio L. They were shuttered for a few years, but they are back in action and by far better than ever. This place is gorgeous, decadent, incredible food and amazing drinks to toast an amazing accomplishment with the greatest team of people ever assembled at Fox News Media. The Fox News podcast team is, bar none, the best in the business. So cheers to you who keep me on the and who are smart enough to keep me drinking in New York City so I can Uber home or take the subway so I don't have to drive like Britney Spears. Please. If you are a pop star and you have a way with substances, imbibe responsibly. Britney's not going to be freed anytime soon. Actually, she was booked at 3am she was freed at 6am that is LA service with a smile. We have an incredible show today and here's what I would like. I would like people who are listening within the physical sound of my voice. If you have any questions, if you have something burning deep within your loins. I'm sorry, Dr. Drew is not on this podcast. Otherwise he might be able to prescribe you an antibiotic and an ointment. But if there is something metaphorically burning within you and you have a question that needs to be answered, or we are going to have a hearty and healthy Q and A section where you can ask me pretty much anything you want. And if I keep drinking these. This drink is called Rue the Day. Not that, you know, Fox News podcast Rues the Day, that they gave me a podcast a thousand episodes ago, but it's made with rhubarb and it is quite good. And it's got egg whites and it's foamy and delicious. Just like sometimes I get foamy when. When I talk about hot button issues. But thankfully for that, there's relaxium that allows me to sleep at night when the world is once again at war and falling apart. So as we depart for the open waters on the SS Canada in today's celebratory thousandth episode, we're going to talk to Tyrus, who is one of my very favorite people to interview and be interviewed by. It is always so much fun to be either sitting across from him or next to him on the Gutfeld Show. Benjamin hall, who is one of the most incredible journalists I've ever met. And his story of healing and reclaiming his power and his voice are, bar none, the most inspiring thing that I have ever encountered. And he's going to be here. He's going to talk about his new children's book because he and his wife welcomed a baby just a few months ago. So we're going to discuss all of that and a couple of your other favorites are going to be here a little later on in the show. Sage Steele will be here, and we have a surprise guest at the end of the show who is going to remain a surprise because we don't want to spoil it for you. We want you. We want you to. It's a cliffhanger. That's what they call a deep tease. I'm letting you know in advance what's going to happen throughout this show. So you stay here, but also, you know, like Donald Rumsfeld, R.I.P. you know, boy, do we really need his steady hand right now. We do have some unknown knowns that will be revealed throughout the episode.
Sage Steele
So.
Kennedy
So go ahead, wherever you are, grab a beverage, saddle up, get yourself comfortable, or make yourself slightly uncomfortable if that makes you enjoy the experience even more, which I always say, you can take this podcast into an ice bath with you if you need to. We will be your comfort blankie. We will be your stuffed orangutan. And you can be punch the monkey. This is Kennedy Saves the World. Let's get to it.
Montel Jordan
Hey, hey, hey. Special K, Kennedy. Congratulations. Number 1,000. I ask you this, how many people can say that?
Jimmy Fala
Well done, Kennedy.
Benjamin Hall
1,000 episodes.
Tyrus
Dang.
Benjamin Hall
Congratulations, Kennedy.
Tyrus
And Kennedy Saves the World.
Kennedy
Hello, and welcome back to Kennedy saves the world. 1k soiree. Joining me now, a legendary wrestler, someone who shares my love of Mel Brooks movies.
Tyrus
And treats are delicious.
Kennedy
And treats. We have popcorn trim and shepherd's pie here at Langan's. Tyrus is here. Co host of Gutfeld and award winning author, celebrated cultural analysts.
Tyrus
Wow.
Kennedy
And provocateur.
Tyrus
Wow. That's a lot of titles.
Kennedy
I'm a fan of the Boston Red Sox, but I won't hold that against you.
Tyrus
But I wanted to be classy in Lanigan, so I wore an appropriate hat.
Kennedy
I love that hat.
Tyrus
Thank you.
Kennedy
Does it have a razor blade in it?
Tyrus
Yes, it does. So in case anyone starts. I got you.
Kennedy
Okay.
Sage Steele
There you go.
Kennedy
This is your Terminal 7. It is a bourbon based drink.
Tyrus
Okay. Now the reason why I'm looking the way I'm looking is there's a little. We do this little shindig every year. New Year's Eve show, I believe. It's fabulous. Minimum budget, but we do amazing numbers. And you were our bartender. And Kat was so pregnant. She was about to pop.
Benjamin Hall
Right.
Tyrus
And so when you were mixing drinks, I assumed they were for, you know, pregnant people type drinks.
Kennedy
I did make her a non alcoholic drink.
Tyrus
You did? Yes, you did.
Kennedy
But for diaries.
Tyrus
Exactly. Like the one that I had. So when it came time for it, I just was doing our thing. We were cracking a joke and I just took the drink because I thought it was a fake drink. And I went just like this.
Kennedy
Now, mind you, he has gotten happened
Tyrus
tonight again, but this time I was ready for it. And also I brought a gift.
Kennedy
Stop it.
Tyrus
Because we like old movies and. Absolutely so. And since it's your thousandth episode, which is congratulations.
Kennedy
I didn't think I would get here, but that's one I started 43 years ago. This podcast. I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac
Tyrus
when they were just.
Kennedy
Fleetwood was like, get out of here and go talk into a microphone.
Tyrus
And you didn't get caught up in any of the dating, right?
Kennedy
I did.
Tyrus
You did.
Kennedy
Got pregnant.
Tyrus
Baby is gypsy.
Benjamin Hall
No.
Tyrus
Okay, so you like eclectic classic things. And it's an anniversary also of Godzilla. So the original Godzilla, he, as you know, they dropped the bomb and he blew up and all was left with his bones. But I brought him back, and he's K now, so kind of like, you were mtv, you know, and you did your thing, and then you evolved and you changed, so. And I know your office, you have all kinds of cool stuff, so now you can add one of your little monsters.
Kennedy
And I am not taking it out of the box.
Tyrus
Oh, no, you can, because you're not going to resell it, because then you'd be giving back a gift that I gave to you.
Kennedy
I would never do that.
Tyrus
Yeah, I know you wouldn't. So.
Sage Steele
But I.
Kennedy
This is pristine. It is beautiful. This means so, so much. Thank you so much. Kiyu.
Tyrus
Kiyu, yes.
Kennedy
Yeah. Mother trucker.
Tyrus
Yes.
Kennedy
Mother Tyrus.
Tyrus
So, hey, let me. Let me ask you, because what is.
Kennedy
I'm just having the shepherd's pie.
Tyrus
It's phenomenal. How many episodes do you think you have been on combined, of all the things you've done in your career?
Kennedy
That's a really good question.
Tyrus
I'm gonna. I would you think 100,000?
Kennedy
I don't know, because there were. I was on five nights a week on Alternative Nation and then would also do sporadic day parts on mtv. I was on a show called Friend or Foe, which lasted for two seasons. I want to. I was on a show for, like, I don't know, four years called Reality Remix, Star Trek, and that was five days a week. So it's. I don't. That's a really good question.
Tyrus
You are the iron man of. Of tv, Iron Woman.
Kennedy
I wish it counted. I wish that counted as an iron man race.
Tyrus
They. They should put. I mean, but you. I think you could give any celebrity a run for their money in terms of being on front of the camera for as long as you have.
Kennedy
So it's really funny because, you know, people think that in order to have longevity, especially in entertainment, like, you have to have some incredible gift like Sydney Sweeney's boobs or Lawrence Olivier.
Tyrus
That's a gift from her parents, though.
Kennedy
True. But Lawrence Olivier's, like, acting ability, right? You. You have to have some supernatural gift. And really, like, here we go. This. In my 20s, you just have to not go away.
Sage Steele
Right.
Kennedy
And if you are the person who doesn't go away, eventually they'll run out of other people and go, but here's
Tyrus
the problem with that.
Kennedy
There's a microphone.
Tyrus
There are people who keep doing this.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Tyrus
And they stay too long, and I won't mention her name because then they make posts about me on social media. So we'll just leave that alone. But you. That doesn't apply to you and I thought you were going to do your little humble thing you always do. Because she is the most humblest person to be on probably over 50,000 episodes of television occur. That's my guesstimate. But what do you think is. Makes you so different? I know what it is. The viewers know it is. But I want to know if you can say it. What makes you aware that you can have a thousand.
Kennedy
And I thought about this a lot. Like what is. What is the common denominator between the feeling I had at MTV and the feeling I had at FOX News? And it's like always paying attention, always listening, always waiting for a good comeback. And that is because I was raised with brothers who always gave me the verbal beatdown. And the only way to win was to give them a facial disgracial and say something funnier. And say it first.
Tyrus
Yeah. Because I don't know if the. They should put a highlight of just some of the your one outs and one takes on Gutfeld. I mean, and they're easy to find because the ones where I'm laughing hysterically. I don't know if I can say the name of the. Probably the greatest line ever said. You know what? So what when you said someone who slaps clams, I think was probably the funniest. Funniest thing I have ever heard in my life. And there's been a few occasions where you're one liners. I've just. When I was television champion in the nwa, I literally just handed you the belt because you just. You've been a champion. I also, I think you know what it is, I also think that you're nice and you're flexible. You don't. I've never. You're okay to be disagreeable with. It's not the end of the world.
Kennedy
Yeah.
Tyrus
You know, and I think that. And I also think you don't take yourself that seriously in terms of like the status that you are. You don't rub it in anyone's face. You know, you don't have.
Kennedy
So I think that's. That's pretty pervasive at vox. I think people there tend to not take themselves too seriously.
Tyrus
You can't.
Kennedy
And I know people who work at cnn. I know people work at msnbc and it's kind of miserable because they have a bad view of human nature. Like they think that human beings are dumb and evil and they react accordingly. Whereas where we are, we think people are by and large perhaps good.
Tyrus
Well, we're all a box of broken toys.
Kennedy
Yeah. And we all Want the same thing. We all want to be put back together. We want to take care of our kids. We want to leave the world a little better than we found it. And in the process, we're going to have a good time. So people at Fox tend to not take themselves too seriously.
Tyrus
Let's talk about our mutual love for all things Blazing Saddles.
Kennedy
So you came to my office one day. We were filming something, and you looked up my old assistant, Teddy. Sweet Teddy. He got me a Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles poster. Had it framed. And I've never had a Blazing Saddles poster.
Tyrus
I have not either.
Sage Steele
I.
Kennedy
My fiance, the other day, we were watching Blazing Saddles, and he was like, I knew you could quote the movie. I didn't know you knew every single word.
Tyrus
And. And she does. And I know this because I know every single line. So they come up. Like I said, you go back. There's several moments on the Gutfeld show, whenever we're on together, there was usually one reference. And it's not even for the audience. It's just for a lot of times, we'll. You know. And my favorite is telling the audience, I didn't get a harrumph out of that guy. And then they. They'll just say harrum. But.
Kennedy
And I'll go, you watch your ass.
Tyrus
Yeah, and it's a lot of fun now, but we do have beef. And I'm hoping that this gets cleared up today. I didn't want to bring this up, but I feel like I have to. I know, I know.
Kennedy
Oh, it just healed.
Tyrus
Did you see?
Kennedy
Look, everybody.
Tyrus
Did you see Jujango yet or not?
Sage Steele
No.
Tyrus
Well, I think we're done here.
Kennedy
I meant to, but then I was told it was, like, really heavy and depressing.
Tyrus
Your fiance is embarrassed. He's embarrassed. Look at that. You know what else? You know what else? And it's not just him. Your brother.
Kennedy
You and my brother. I met your brother got together, and you told him that I had never seen Django.
Tyrus
And he apologized on behalf of his entire family, and he said that he would deal with it.
Kennedy
Thanks, Bry. Really have my back there, buddy. Huh?
Tyrus
Your rebelliousness and disobedience to your brother is shocking, and you should be. You're gonna finish your meal, and then it's off to bed. I will tell you this, until you
Kennedy
watch the Django, Romanians can hold a grudge.
Tyrus
Yeah. Okay.
Kennedy
If there were an Olympic contest for grudge holding, I would be Bart Connor. My mom would be Michael Phelps.
Tyrus
I'm sorry, I don't believe you. You hold a grudge. I've never seen that side.
Kennedy
Ask my daughters. Ask my daughters.
Tyrus
When I have a feeling if I
Kennedy
asked your daughter when their friends. Yeah, when their friends go sideways. It's not good. Yeah, I've called some people. I'm not ashamed. So my daughter was at a seven year old's birthday, okay. And her name is Pele.
Tyrus
Pele.
Kennedy
Pele.
Tyrus
Oh, yeah, like the soccer player.
Kennedy
And a little girl comes up to her and goes, peel. What kind of a name is Peel? What a dumb name.
Tyrus
Peel.
Kennedy
And I was like, I see this and I see my daughter's humiliated in front of the entire birthday party. So I pulled off.
Tyrus
Did you peel her skin off?
Kennedy
I pulled her aside and I go, hey, what's your name?
Tyrus
Oh, I like this.
Kennedy
And she goes, my name's Pearl. And I said, pearl said, really? Pearl is an old lady's name. You're gonna have an old lady's name for the rest of your life and not just any. You know why? Because you're an old lady. And I did it with the crazy eyes. And her lips started quivering. Well, there's like, bye, Pearl.
Tyrus
And that. Pearl is not just any old lady. It's the old lady with the varicose veins and a. And the pantyhose that kind of roll up on the calf. She doesn't have enough to keep them up on the thigh anymore. You know, like the spider veins.
Kennedy
She was riding with Britney last night when you got popped for a dui.
Tyrus
Thank you, Pearl. Yeah.
Kennedy
Pearl.
Tyrus
Pearl Grill. You like shellfish?
Kennedy
I almost called the cops on her dad once too. For fun.
Tyrus
Yeah, for having her. That's what you should be arrested for. Having a disobedient brat. You gotta. It starts with it at home.
Kennedy
Yeah. And then the sheriff is near.
Tyrus
Clearly knew that she was up to no good just by naming her Pearl. You gave up when she came out.
Kennedy
Who does that?
Tyrus
Who calls somebody Pearl?
Kennedy
Who gives the. A child the name of a.
Tyrus
Of basically. Well, let's be honest. It's clam. That's what you are. It's sand and clam fermented at the bottom. I wish I would have been there because I would have been in the back yelling, clam. That's what she is. Congratulations. You are the. You live at the bottom of your heart.
Kennedy
I would say cheers to you. You still gotta sip in there.
Tyrus
Yeah, I gotta sip in there. Cheers. And to another thousand more.
Kennedy
Amen.
Sage Steele
Thank you.
Tyrus
Keep being the common sense force of knowledge for fox. And you always do with a Smile on your face.
Kennedy
To ET's finger.
Tyrus
Now I have to go put up with a little guy.
Kennedy
It's okay, just put him in the Baby Bjorn, walk him around.
Tyrus
He'll equate.
Kennedy
Yeah, exactly.
Sage Steele
He'll be.
Tyrus
He's a little cranky this week.
Benjamin Hall
Yeah.
Kennedy
Thank you, Tyrus. Let's hear it for Tyrus.
Benjamin Hall
Thank you.
Tyrus
Free punch. Free punch. Hashtag free punch.
Kennedy
Thank you so much for being supportive, giving your feedback, listening, watching and giving my career a new and welcome direction that I didn't realize this was going to take place a few short years ago and, and how fortunate I have been to be able to talk about the things that I really care about, the things that really make me laugh, the things that are completely absurd and all of it you have been there for. And this unbelievable team that I get to work with, Matt and Mara and Devin and Jason and John and Kiera and Jonah, who's no longer here, and I called them Noah on purpose and everyone else, Kate, who is not here. But your presence is always loved, especially the people who download and listen to the show, watch the show and you know, you help me save the world, otherwise, you know, it would just be a solipsistic, lonely little existence. This is Ainsley Earhart. Thank you for joining me for the 52 episode podcast series the Life of Jesus.
Tyrus
A listening experience that will provide hope,
Jimmy Fala
comfort and understanding of the greatest story ever told.
Tyrus
Listen and follow now@foxnewspodcasts.com or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Kennedy
Hello and welcome back to langen's on West 47th street where everybody knows your name, if your name is. Hey, Benjamin hall is here. One of my very favorite journalists in the world. Courageous, brilliant, resilient. Benjamin hall is all of it. And once again a new dad who has written a new book. Benjamin, welcome back to Kennedy Saves the World.
Benjamin Hall
What a pleasure. Highlight of the day. Highlight of the year.
Kennedy
That's right.
Benjamin Hall
Yeah, Highlight of the day wouldn't be a good place to start.
Kennedy
Never mind that be day celebration. So tell me about. Well, first of all, how are you doing? How is the family, the girls doing really well.
Benjamin Hall
I've got four girls now, age 10, 8, 6 and 1. And so when I come over to New York for work, it's like a vacation. And in fact, I spoke to my wife earlier today and she said something the same. She said, you know what, when you're in, when you go away in New York for work, the home is so quiet and peaceful and I'm not sure how to take that so it seems that we both.
Kennedy
Do you believe that?
Benjamin Hall
You know what it is? I think that she, she's the rule maker and I'm probably the rule breaker at home. So I think we're. When I'm out of the house, it's pretty quiet.
Sage Steele
Yeah.
Benjamin Hall
So how's it to be here? It feels relaxing. And look, we're sitting at Langham's and. Yeah, can't get any better.
Kennedy
Yeah. Look at this.
Benjamin Hall
It's.
Kennedy
It's happy hour for a lot of people. They're rolling in. It's the pre theater crowd. They got a pre game for a few hours.
Benjamin Hall
We need to convince Fox that this is where live shots should happen.
Kennedy
So they've always lovingly called Langen Studio L because so many people would just, you know, it's, it's right there.
Benjamin Hall
As long as you're coming after the live hit rather than before the live hit.
Kennedy
Stories from the old days that would blow your hair back. Benjamin, like you have been in war zones. I'm sure you've seen people self medicate in a myriad of ways.
Benjamin Hall
Well, that's true when you've got to crawl to your workspace.
Kennedy
Yes, exactly right. But now your context is very different as you once again become an author. This is the third book I get to interview you for. Tell me all about it.
Benjamin Hall
Well, it's a kid's book. It's my first children's book. It's called I love it. It's called Read all about It. And you know what? I never thought I'd be writing a children's book, but it is that a hedgehog. That's a hedgehog. And I'll tell you why.
Sage Steele
It's.
Benjamin Hall
The lead character's a hedgehog. I actually have the real hedgehog.
Kennedy
That's the hedgehog.
Benjamin Hall
That's the hedgehog. I travel everywhere with him. And this little hedgehog went to all the war zones with me. Everyone. I traveled with him and I held onto him.
Kennedy
Including Ukraine.
Benjamin Hall
Including Ukraine. It reminded me of home. It sent messages back to my kids.
Kennedy
And you would photograph the hedgehog in Texas when you were at the rehabilitation hospital.
Benjamin Hall
That's right. So Bamsi. Bamsi. When I was. When we were attacked in Ukraine, this was in my body armor. And for the few days after that, when I was trying to stay alive, I was barely there. I gripped on, I held this little hedgehog and I just said, I'm going home. I'm going home to my children. I'm thinking of them. And this little hedgehog gave me the
Kennedy
strength really Was that the physical embodiment of your children?
Benjamin Hall
Totally. Absolutely.
Kennedy
Was that like Tom Hanks, Wilson and Castaway?
Benjamin Hall
Yeah, in a way, it is. You know what? I speak to this hedgehog sometimes. So anyway, here we are. The hedgehog has made it in to be the lead character in this. And I said to my children, let's take the hedgehog on more adventures. Where shall he go next? What adventures should he go on? What morals can he teach? And that's what the book is.
Kennedy
Did they help you come up with some of the content for the book?
Benjamin Hall
Yeah, but I'll tell you what, we sat down so many times, we came up with a story. I've got four daughters. They just wanted to put more fairies in the book. And I kept explaining. I love that it's not really a fairy book.
Kennedy
I know.
Benjamin Hall
It's just one fairy. They said. I. I said, the next book we write will be about fairies, but this one's about the hedgehog.
Kennedy
Okay, well, maybe the hedgehog can meet a fairy and give the fairy the reading material that the fairy can then fly to all the children in remote places all over the earth.
Benjamin Hall
You should be writing more kids books
Kennedy
and they can achieve literacy.
Benjamin Hall
Yeah. There we are.
Kennedy
Excellent.
Benjamin Hall
You're in it.
Kennedy
I mean, just by being in the room, you lift people's iq, boys.
Benjamin Hall
Some of the best ideas in the world happen at bottom.
Kennedy
That's true, you know. Yes. And here you are, you're in the States, you're promoting the book. You. You look back at the last three years and what strikes you when you wake up and. And take this in from a different edge of the pond?
Benjamin Hall
You know, I'm a firm believer that when you go through something difficult, you have to see the positive side and everything. And I look back at the last three years, and they've been three years of absolute joy every single day, reminding yourself that we're still here. Let's not waste a moment of life. Let's go do everything we can. Let's write every kid's book we can. Let's climb every mountain we can. Let's spend as much time with our family and try and push the limits. And, like, that's a blessing, you know, and that's the way I've seen the last three years, every single day. What more can we do? And that's. That's basically how I choose to live my life at the moment. And it's been great as a result.
Kennedy
When you are here, when you go to dc, do you reconnect with people on your team? Who rescued you?
Benjamin Hall
Yeah, absolutely. I will say that. You know, there's a sad story. The guy, the Ukrainian special forces guy who found me and I was lying there alone for long times, long time in Ukraine, just found out that I was in touch with him a lot. He's since died in the war in Ukraine. So the guy who saved my life has passed away recently. And that's terrible, terrible. But I speak to the guys from Save Our Allies, who are these American veterans who came out to find me. They didn't know where I was, despite the accent. I'm an American as well, and they knew there was one American who was injured and they were going to risk their own lives to find me. And that's a core group of people who I speak to. Sarah Verado led away. Jen Griffin was behind it. And when someone has been behind, you know, and saved your life, I mean, that's a connection you can't have with many other people. And. And by the way, they are still out there saving more lives. These are people who, every day, what they want to do is go and save people. And, you know, they are the people who lead the way. They are the people who should hold up. Those are the heroes, and America is full of them everywhere you look. You know, we're in the news business and we talk about the negative things that happen. You've got to talk about the bad things. But we need to spend as much time talking about the heroes. They're the ones that inspire us. And so, yeah, I speak to them all the time, and I try to talk about them as much as I can.
Kennedy
And I know you've made it your life's work as a journalist to find some of those stories, you know, some of those stories that aren't going to make it on the front page of the New York Times. They may not lead Brett Bear's special report, but there are people who are making differences through their own sacrifice and bravery that they don't acknowledge. And you have been fighting those.
Benjamin Hall
That's right. And I got my podcast, which is called Searching for Heroes. And everywhere you look in America, there is someone who's, who's helping others, whether they are just finding people who need, whether it's their neighbors, whether it's ill people, whether they are ill. And, you know, you create this community of people who inspire one another. And so that's a lot of the work I do, is finding people who have done amazing things. I did this series for Fox Nation called American Exceptionalism, and we have gone around America and We found people in towns that have been absolutely demolished and hit by floods or, you know, opioid crisis. And in every single one of them, in every single street, there is someone saying, doesn't matter that we're down. Let's pick ourselves up and rebuild. That is an American quality right there that nothing can stop you. You can achieve anything, no matter what's happened to you. It's what makes this country really so powerful, so strong. Being able to tell those stories is a privilege for me.
Kennedy
Do you think your family will ever move to America, or do they love being in the uk?
Benjamin Hall
You know, it's really funny. For the first time two months ago, my wife turned to me and said, what do you think? What do you think about heading over to the States? Yeah, I know. And I thought we were going to be in our grandpa. So who knows is the question. I don't know. But the option is being mentioned and fantastic.
Kennedy
I approve. My name is Kennedaley and I approve this message. May the hall family move here and thrive, and we will welcome you with open arms.
Benjamin Hall
We might welcome.
Kennedy
Congratulations on the book. Love to your family, and you continue to inspire me, and I will continue to look for the amazing stories that
Benjamin Hall
are all around Kennedy, you've inspired people for so long. You really are like, this is your thousandth episode. Episode. This is your show. We should be lifting you up and talking about the things you've done. I'm annoyed by the way that Tyres brought you a gift. Now he really led the way. And he drank his drink in one go, so he set the bar high. But no, for you. Congratulations. Like, you have led the way. And, you know, you, such incredible voice
Kennedy
on the shoulders of giants. That's where I stand.
Benjamin Hall
I feel that way.
Kennedy
Ben Hall. Thank you so much. All right. He's gonna go knock it out. Read all his books. You'll be a better person for it. Kennedy saves the world. 1K returns in moments. Stay with us.
Montel Jordan
So, Kennedy, I, like many people, when you told me about this podcast idea, I said, it's gonna fail. I go, don't do it. There's gotta be a meeting, have long lunches. You don't need this type of. This stress on you. And what could you possibly say? Interesting. And then I realized a thousand episodes in how funny you are, how insightful you are, how smart you are. And I realized I was wrong. And I don't like to admit when I'm wrong, because, to be honest, I'm not wrong often, almost ever. But I was wrong about you. You are nice, beautiful, insightful, funny, self effacing, well read and no Wonder. Your last 1,000 episodes. But I'd stop here, make this the last one. Go out on a high. But you don't have to take my advice. You didn't last time and I'm a little angry about that.
Jimmy Fala
1,000 episodes. I lost so much money on this, I think I took the under one and a half in Vegas 2 knowing I was going to be on the second episode. But anyway, congrats, K Train. We're all proud of you. Although I don't think it's cool that Langan's is making you work off your bar tab this way. I think they should have just had you in for the episode. But good luck with the rest of the show and good luck washing the dishes when you're done.
Sage Steele
Here we go.
Kennedy
It is Kennedy's 1k soiree, the 1000th episode celebration of Kennedy Saves the world. Thank you very much. Put your hands together for the podcasts. As promised, we have a little Q and A session. You have been kind enough to jot some things down. I'm going to answer them as honestly as I can. What is the best thing about working on the podcast? A great question. One, I love the collaboration. We have a group of people who come to work every day with ideas and energy. And the great thing about a podcast is there are no constraints. We can talk about pretty much anything. If you are drinking 20% of the time on air on your podcast, you know that you've got some freedom. It is a podcast that celebrates freedom and that is reflected in the topics, the collaboration, the final products, and the guests that we book on the show. And believe me, it takes a few village. We're still trying to get you, Dale Earnhardt Jr. You heard me. Which leads me to my next question. If you could have any guest on the podcast, who would it be? It would be Dale Earnhardt Jr. Or Pope Leo. I would love to have Pope Leo on the podcast. Thank you, American Catholics. I see you. Earn heart. Earn heart. Earnhardt. Earnhardt. The crowd is chanting. They want it. Who is the most interesting person you've interviewed? That is a great question. I feel like I interview so many interesting people. Benjamin hall, who you heard, like his story resonated with me so deeply. And when people show up and they really open up, it takes an interview in any direction because you know you can trust someone to go there. Brett Bear is really fun to interview because he kind of lets his hair down a little and he's Honest. He talks about the news, he talks about the president, and he's a fan of scotch, so he is always a hoot to have on happy hour. And every time Brett releases a new book, I try and send him a nice bottle of Macallan 18 just to get him back. Next time, it's probably going to be Macallan 21 because he has expensive taste. And rightly so. Who's the weirdest interview from the podcast? That's a great question. I did an episode called Convince Me where I had a doctor on who was really pushing the keto diet and a vegan nutritionist. And I was telling either of them either convinced me to go keto or to go vegan, and they ended up fighting with each other. And I absolutely loved that. And I'm sorry I ended up siding with the keto doctor. It just seemed like a lot more fun to eat meat all the time. And the Naked Cowboy was one of the weirdest podcasts ever. I think that's the only podcast I've done on this iteration of my career where I saw a man's nipples the entire time. And you can see them, too. Just go to Times Square and look for the guy playing guitar in his underwear and ask him how he saves the world. We have a few more questions in just a little bit, and Sage Steele is going to be here to talk about the state of her union, which is quite good. I'm a huge fan of hers. I love her story. I love her family history. I have so much respect for her knowledge of sports and the boundaries that she placed in her personal life that only catapulted her to a level of superstardom that I don't even think she anticipated. So she be here in moments on Kennedy saves the world. The 1K soiree.
Sage Steele
Congratulations, Kennedy. I love you. A thousand episodes is so amazing. I love you a thousand times. A thousand times. A thousand times. A thousand times. A thousand times.
Kennedy
A thousand times. A thousand times a thousand.
Guy Benson
What's up, Kennedy? It's Guy Benson. I was told that this is the 1000th episode of Kennedy Saves the World, your podcast. That is wild. Time has flown by. Congratulations. It's been an honor to be on the show multiple times. Here's to a thousand or two thousand or three thousand more. You're great. You're one of my favorite people. You have excellent taste in everything except for NHL hockey. We love you.
Kennedy
We are back at the one case soiree Kennedy saves the world. Go to Fox newspodcast.com, apple Spotify, YouTube, wherever you get your podcast, download Kennedy Saves the World. It's free. Free. It's amazing. Not only will it save the world, it will save your bacon. Sage Steele joins me now. She is a celebrated sports journalist. She has an incredible podcast which has launched you into the fore of the cultural conversation. We appreciated you when you were covering sports, but now we get to hear from you on all topics. And this has been such an elevation of what you do. When you left espn, did you think that your next chapter would be as robust as it is?
Sage Steele
Oh, my gosh, no. And thank you. The fact that I'm allowed to talk to you like people I've always admired, but I would never have been allowed to talk to anybody from Fox News, obviously. Yeah. You know, like, this is annoying. I'm gonna take them off. Sorry. It's just I didn't know what was next. I honestly didn't. I had done that for 30 years as my dream job. I was so.
Kennedy
You were at ESPN for 30 years?
Sage Steele
Only 17 there. 16. 17.
Kennedy
But then 17 is a long 13
Sage Steele
years before then, just, you know, throughout the journey to get to ESPN as a sportscaster. So it is a long time. And honestly, it didn't end the way I wanted. I wouldn't change it. I loved every second there because I love my job. And I think that that, that matters. And you can compartmentalize if stuff isn't going well and you can put it back here, whatever the crap is, but do the job that you love. And I was able to do that.
Kennedy
But you don't know when you let go.
Sage Steele
Thank you.
Kennedy
Of the trapeze. Cheers to you.
Sage Steele
Hello. That is beautiful.
Kennedy
Cheers. Cheers. Thank you.
Sage Steele
This is amazing. Oh, my gosh.
Kennedy
I'm having the forbidden tea. Highly recommend. Come down to Langen's West 47th. Order this. You'll need nothing more in your life. Maybe don't show up on an empty stomach, but if you do, they've got shepherd's pie, they've got flatbreads. They got you taken care of. So it is like when you're on the trapeze and you let go with your legs and you reach out, but you don't know if someone is going to be there to catch you on the other side.
Sage Steele
Oh, no, I will say, because mine ended, unfortunately in a lawsuit when I sued Disney. First Amendment, whole long story. And as much as I knew it was the right thing, standing up for what I believed in when I was at that table at the mediation in Los Angeles with all these scary people and we settled. That's a victory. Right. I put my head on this, on a table like this. And I sobbed because I didn't know what was next. And I was so scared. And I had had my whole life planned out. Right. You go to college and you go to J school and then you, you
Kennedy
climb up your local things.
Sage Steele
Yes. And you do it the right way and you're kind to people and you do all that. And I was like, what am I going to do next? And then I had the opportunity to start a show. Bill Maher is the one who gave me a shot.
Kennedy
Really?
Sage Steele
Bill Maher at Club Random. I was the first hire in his podcast network, which has since gone under. And I got out just in time. Bill Maher, diversity of thought. Like we couldn't be more different. And he believed in me and gave me a shot. And that's how my show began. And all I ever wanted was to have conversations, even on SportsCenter for all those years. It isn't just about the highlight, the final score. It's about the human being that the athlete or the coaches and their why and that story. So to get to now, bring that to my own little show and have conversations with anyone who's willing to talk. Thank you, Kenny.
Kennedy
I love talking.
Sage Steele
Yeah, I just, I forget sometimes that cameras are on.
Kennedy
I feel like so.
Sage Steele
Yeah, it is. I feel like that's what's actually missing from our world is we can be different. But if you understand someone's why, it's okay and you can at least be respectful. And that's what's been a real blessing. I just never knew it was possible to have my own show. I think when you're so caught up in one way of doing things, you don't think outside the box. This has forced me to. And now I would never go back.
Kennedy
No, no freedom. And it's so interesting, the clarity that hindsight gives you. And the old, older you get, the more experiences you have, the more you learn to trust that. Yes, because you don't trust that. Like you're, you're very self aware and self conscious, especially when you're starting out in your 20s and 30s as a broadcaster. But as time goes on and you get some victories and you, you have some battles and sometimes you're victorious and sometimes you're not, but you always come away with something you do. But. And you know, we're so scared. It holds us back. But you still love sports.
Sage Steele
I do. I just don't find sports now that you're not covering it As a fan, excellent. I've never been able to consume sports as a fan, not in the last three decades, because I felt the need to be a true sports journalist, and I took pride in that. And so I felt like I was the liaison between the players, the coaches, the teams, and the fans who didn't have the opportunity to be at the game or the opportunity to talk to an athlete. So I took it very seriously. And I didn't, you know, cheer at a game. I didn't go to games unless I was working at a game. So now to go to games and to cheer and to have a beer, I'm like, this is. This is crazy. This is super cool. But I had forgotten about that. I went. I went to Indiana.
Kennedy
Hello.
Sage Steele
We are a football school. We just won the national championship.
Kennedy
You are the football team.
Sage Steele
Hello, the number one. Bring it. Now I can talk trash after a lifetime of having to be like, wait, do we have a football team? So I got to go and soak it all up. Yeah. I think maybe I'm appreciating it more because of the perspective of looking at it differently for 30 years, but again, super grateful. I still love sports, but I don't need it, and I don't watch it as much as I don't.
Kennedy
Did you watch the Olympics?
Sage Steele
Not much.
Kennedy
What did you think of the reaction where people were so protective of the women's hockey team?
Sage Steele
Protective? That. Yeah, that's one way to describe. I was so proud of those women and who they are. I know a couple of those athletes. They're incredible.
Kennedy
And then I suck at Canada. How about that?
Sage Steele
Exactly. Yeah.
Kennedy
I'll say it again.
Sage Steele
Canada. Trudeau, like, the fact that he was talking trash.
Kennedy
You go take Katy Perry. We'll take the gold medal. And, yeah, we took your game, Justin.
Sage Steele
Thank you very much. Like, I just don't understand why we, not us, we, like, choose to be divisive about something that's so beautiful and so uniting. Just stop it and enjoy. And guess what?
Kennedy
Take the W. Take the W. Yes.
Sage Steele
And guess what? Those guys and gals were friends the entire time. They were inspiring each other, celebrating each
Kennedy
other, supporting each other, cheering each other on. They've been playing together for years, Years, years.
Sage Steele
And cheering each other and inspiring each other. At the end of the day, they were all proud to represent us. People that they'll never meet. They'll never meet. The entire. Millions of people who are so proud and crying in many cases, because of what they got and how they did
Kennedy
it all day on Sunday after the Men won. I mean, the women won. I saw the very first gold medal Olympic game between U.S. women in Canada. Women in 1998. U.S. women won, and it was awesome.
Sage Steele
Wow.
Kennedy
And I knew I loved the games, but then I knew I really loved the game. And I was so nervous because Canada usually kicks our ass.
Sage Steele
I mean, that's. That's all they got, right? And I will say this. I covered all the major pro sports in North America. Major League Baseball, NFL, NBA, hockey. I always say this, and I will forever try to preach this. The best athletes, by far to cover on a professional level are hockey players. The best. The best. Humans. The nicest. The most professional, the most, most humble. And they got tens of millions of dollars, just like all the other sports leagues. But these guys are in it for the love of the game. And it came across. And I honestly am excited to see the growth of the game now ever since that. Because when little, that's usually a turning point for little kids. You see one person, you see the joy, and then you want to go try it.
Kennedy
I remember 1980. I remember the Miracle on Ice 46 years ago.
Sage Steele
Yes. That's the beauty of being Ra.
Kennedy
I was 37 years old, by the way.
Sage Steele
We are the same person. We're twins, obviously, but no, she's like two. We're two months apart. So, like, our memories are the same.
Kennedy
Dovetail.
Sage Steele
Yes.
Kennedy
On the wings of love. So how did you get Danica Patrick to open up to you? Oh, my God. About her relationship with Aaron Rodgers? Because I was reading a quote from your podcast just the other day. The context was him talking about his new marriage, and they brought that up. How did you get her to spill the beans?
Sage Steele
Oh, I didn't know. Did he bring. Oh, he was talking about her and Shailene with me.
Kennedy
I think they were all crazy. It's like, okay, so Aaron Rodgers. You're talking about several women, and they're all crazy, and you're not the problem.
Sage Steele
You're not the one. It makes me sad because I will say this. And I. I did. I. I don't.
Kennedy
Go do some ayahuasca and a little self reflection. Former Jets.
Sage Steele
What was that? The four day darkness thing when he was. Yeah.
Kennedy
Sensory.
Sage Steele
I don't.
Kennedy
Whatever the hell he was.
Sage Steele
I don't know him now, but I.
Kennedy
Anyhow, this is. Welcome to the ladylike hour.
Sage Steele
This is why we love. Yes.
Kennedy
I'm classy Kennedy. My God, I love you, Sassy Sage.
Sage Steele
Hello. No, it's not. I'll wait. That's for later. I used to know him. I don't know him now, and I believe he has. I believe there's a good soul in there. I really, really, really do. I don't know the details of him and Danica or. I never knew Shailene. I was on the campaign trail with Danica towards the last couple of weeks and months, so. So I had covered her for years, obviously, but I got to know her a little bit in that way I thought she probably held. Well, I know she held back a lot in my conversation with her. And at the end of the day, I'm not trying to, like, clickbait, blow everything up. I just don't know that it was necessary that he said what he said the way he said it the other day. It's unfortunate, because guess what? He's happy now. I am so happy that he married you, moved on. Yes.
Kennedy
You're good. Embrace your presence.
Sage Steele
Yeah. But to bring others down. This is what my mother told me years ago when I first got espn. And the women there. Oh, my gosh, the book's gonna be good someday, Kennedy. I love it.
Kennedy
I can't wait.
Sage Steele
Now I just have to sit down and write it, which is a whole other problem for me. But, like, this is what my mom told me when I first started. And I was. I'd get, you know, feelings hurt by women that I had looked up to. And as a young mother, I was. Oh, no, they weren't having it. They didn't want any of me. My mother had to remind me. And I've used this or remember this my whole life since. When someone strikes out at you, it usually isn't about you. This is about them. There's something internal within them, Aaron, that they feel the need to bring others down. And I think it's unfortunate because I know he's a good person, and I think Danica is. And I don't actually care what happened in their relationship. My question to her was just more about, you know, low times in her life. Yeah. And she went there. I wasn't gonna ask. Yeah, she did. You know, so.
Kennedy
Cuz she crazy.
Sage Steele
Go, girl. But at the end of the day, I think we all need to remember that, right? I know you gotta wrap. Like, when people come at you, it's usually not about you. What is lacking in them where they feel the need to bring others down? Like, get some therapy, say some prayers. Yes. Why have a drink. I know that's not the best advice.
Kennedy
Here's to getting right with God.
Sage Steele
Amen.
Kennedy
He made alcohol.
Sage Steele
This is really good.
Kennedy
Beautiful sage Deal. Thank you for all you do. Thank you for inviting me onto your podcast.
Sage Steele
It was an honor. I've been obsessed with her for decades.
Kennedy
You are such a. And I'm so glad that it is Sage just unleashed on pop culture politics in the world.
Sage Steele
Keeping Sage. Can I keep that?
Kennedy
Classy, Kennedy. Sassy Sage.
Sage Steele
Thank you. And congratulations. This is amazing.
Kennedy
Yes. The 1k soiree.
Sage Steele
1k.
Kennedy
We're rolling on Kennedy Sage the world. Sage Steel Kennedy. Congratulations on 1000,000 episodes of completely kicking booty. And you've been doing that for as long as I can remember. You just being a part of being a cultural icon. Thank God we are in the same Fox family. Kudos to you, my friend.
Benjamin Hall
1,000 episodes. Kennedy. I'm absolutely amazed because who on earth would listen to that? Anyway, I guess some of the people are. And please invite me back. I want to be a guest again. Big hug. Well done.
Kennedy
All right, we're wrapping things up here at St. Studio L. We are at Langan's. Kennedy saves the world. One case soiree. A thousand episodes. What? What? Couple more questions. No, that's weird. I'm not answering that. Oh, who wrote this? It says. Why wasn't I invited? I don't know. Who wrote this? How would I know? You were invited. It was on social media. Brett Baer did a special segment on special reports. Oh, Jimmy Fila.
Jimmy Fala
Well, I must have missed the invite in the mail.
Kennedy
Did you write this?
Jimmy Fala
You damn right I did.
Kennedy
Who taught you how to do this? Jim.
Jimmy Fala
Thank you. No one thought I wrote it because the words were spelled right. But the joke's on you. Don't ever mock community college again. Happy anniversary.
Kennedy
Double fisted. You.
Jimmy Fala
I mean, triple fist. And I just couldn't hold the third one, so here we are.
Kennedy
Cheers, Jim.
Jimmy Fala
You damn right. Best of the best right here.
Kennedy
This is how we do it.
Jimmy Fala
This is how we. Right. Montel Jordan.
Kennedy
This is how we do it.
Jimmy Fala
Montel Jordan. Not to be confused with Montel Williams, who banged Kamala. Good night, everybody.
Kennedy
Sorry.
Jimmy Fala
I'm sorry about that.
Kennedy
This is how I did it.
Jimmy Fala
I mean, not that that's an accolade. That's like saying you did a shot at Langen's. Plenty of people have. Anyway. What do you mean I'm fired? I just got here. Talk to me.
Kennedy
You walked in. I heard you asked if this was an intervention. You're the only person where the intervention would be at a bar.
Jimmy Fala
I know that's the truth. Because it wouldn't be real. Here's the thing. People who have Been in this bar for about an hour now. Are no longer like happy drunk, they're now sentimental drunk. So everyone here has a lot of best friends now. You're my best friend, you know, and when I walked in, I was like, yeah, we'll party.
Kennedy
Best friend Patrick, he's a bartender and he said I could go to Ireland and I get to stay with his parents.
Jimmy Fala
I stay at his house because you're my best friend. And that's where we are in the drought.
Kennedy
She said she's my mom,
Jimmy Fala
So congrats.
Kennedy
Thanks, Jim.
Jimmy Fala
Happy anniversary.
Kennedy
Thank you.
Jimmy Fala
I've never been a non consensual guest on a podcast before. This is my new slogan. Once you get your own TV show, they say you're a celebrity, they'll let you do whatever you want.
Kennedy
There it is. Here it is.
Jimmy Fala
Yes, I do.
Kennedy
I'm going to drink till I fall on my face. And you will know the rest.
Jimmy Fala
There it is. So in honor of your 1,000th episode.
Kennedy
1,000.
Jimmy Fala
A lot of people don't know this.
Kennedy
USA.
Jimmy Fala
We did this for her 500th episode. And that's how the wildfire started in California. We were on the west coast, but Mara had hooked it up. I'm sorry we burnt it down.
Kennedy
We're just celebrating.
Benjamin Hall
Yes.
Jimmy Fala
But great to see you. Happy anniversary.
Sage Steele
Thanks.
Kennedy
Jim.
Jimmy Fala
The cake. The thing about the cake at Langan's is you can't even taste the fentanyl. You don't even know what's in there. It's so sweet. You just eat it. The next thing you know, you're kind of tranked out in the alley. But it's so terrible.
Kennedy
They're not even trying to go through the southern border.
Sage Steele
No.
Kennedy
They just go right to Langan.
Jimmy Fala
No. And I knew that.
Kennedy
Fentanyl shortcake.
Jimmy Fala
I knew this was a big deal. The Langan's. When I saw Bill Cosby bartending, I'm like, oh, they pulled out all the stops for Kennedy. This is. This is a momentous occasion.
Kennedy
He was innocent. It's weird.
Jimmy Fala
I'm sorry.
Kennedy
He was framed.
Jimmy Fala
I've only been here a few minutes, but I'm so drowsy.
Kennedy
Headaches.
Jimmy Fala
I don't know why I'm so drowsy. I had one pudding pop in the men's room and they said it was a pudding pop.
Kennedy
Larry Summers was in there like, jimmy, I need a new wingman. Bill Gates, like, hey, Jim, do you have any penicillin? All right, well, that does it for us from Studio L, the world famous Langans. And thank you for being a part of The Celebration, the 1,000th episode of Kennedy Saves the World. Download the podcast wherever you get your podcast. Kennedy
You're my best friend, Jim.
Jimmy Fala
You're my best friend.
Kennedy
And Jimmy's on every single Monday.
Jimmy Fala
I was not invited on this show. It's part of my new slogan. Grab her by the podcast. And there we are.
Kennedy
