This week we tuned into the zany and chaotic world of UHF, the 1989 cult comedy masterpiece by the undisputed king of parody, "Weird Al" Yankovic. We revisit George Newman's wild ride running (and saving) Channel 62 and all the personalities that call it home, so fire up the transmitters and grab your accordions! To match the vibrant, loud, and delightfully unconventional energy of this film, we cracked open a few cans of Squeezebox, a heavily fruited Strawberry Fruit Tart from Cincinnati's Urban Artifact. It's fruity, tart and with a flavor strong enough to stand up to the fast-paced, colorful sketches of this classic comedy. Not too many people know this, but the turtle is also Nature's suction cup.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - kentuckyfriedcritics@gmail.comPatreon - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#UHF #WeirdAl #MovieReview #BeerPairing #UrbanArtifact

This week on the podcast we are breaking down the 1983 Stephen King claustrophobic horror classic, Cujo. We tackle the blistering summer heat, Dee Wallace’s powerhouse performance, and the sheer terror of a broken-down Ford Pinto as man's best friend turns a Castle Rock monster. To survive the tension, we’re cracking open a perfectly paired beverage, "Hair of the Dog" by Evil Genius Beer Company. It's a tart, crisp Pink Lemonade Ale that brings pure summer vibes. A refreshing reprieve from being trapped in a car by a 200-pound rabid St. Bernard. How did the monster get out of my closet?Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - kentuckyfriedcritics@gmail.comPatreon - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#Cujo #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #EvilGenius

This week on the podcast we grabbed our keys, rolled down the windows, and started cruising all the way back to May 1976 to take a look at the Richard Linklater high school epic Dazed and Confused. From the legendary classic rock soundtrack to the brilliant ensemble cast, we talk about why this film holds the crown for the greatest cinematic hangout movie ever made. Even with it's 50 year old setting it still feels timeless today. To survive the hazing, climbing the moon tower, and Wooderson’s questionable philosophy, we are matching the film's patriotic time period with a beautiful piece of liquid history. We are drinking Narragansett Lager straight from their limited-edition USA 250th Anniversary cans! These stunning cans are a flawless reprint of 'Gansett's iconic 1976 Bicentennial Liberty Bell design for a double-shot of that 1976 aesthetic.Alright, alright, alright.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - kentuckyfriedcritics@gmail.comPatreon - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#DazedandConfused #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #Narragansett

This week we grabbed our clubs and headed out to the back nine at Bushwood Country Club for a deep dive into the 1980 comedy masterpiece Caddyshack. A movie intended to be a teen comedy about the working class hijinks on the links that was hijacked by Murray, Chase and Dangerfield. In the process, and with the help of an animatronic gopher, they accidentally created a piece of film history. And what's a day on the fairway without a great beverage and we found the perfect one to pair with this golf classic in Gopher Golfin', a session IPA by Moeller Brew Barn. Wonderfully crisp, but sitting at a lower, "sessionable" ABV. It's clean, refreshing, and designed to keep your head clear whether you're playing 18 holes or trying to flush out a destructive varmint with plastic explosives. Hey, everybody, we're all gonna get laid! This week we are diving headfirst into a muddy graveyard of punk rock and practical effects with the 1985 horror-comedy masterpiece, The Return of the Living Dead. A groundbreaking zombie tale that drastically changed the undead creatures lore. These are some sentient, fast-moving ghouls that have been brought back by some shady military experiments hidden away in a warehouse basement in Kentucky. To survive the toxic military gas, we are cracking open a true local favorite, Dusty Bottoms, a pre-Prohibition style Kentucky Common style ale from Sawstone Brewing Co. (our local brewery). A style of beer that originates in Lousville, just like the outbreak of Trioxin zombies, and is comforting enough to help you survive the onslaught. You mean the movie lied? This week we unpacked the fascinatingly weird 2011 film The Beaver, directed by Jodie Foster. A movie with a deceptive trailer that pulled us in with a wild premise and promises of absurd humor. Is it a bizarre dark comedy, a tragic look at mental health, or just Mel Gibson talking to his hand in a weird accent? To help us cope with the heavy themes and puppet-induced existential dread, we cracked open another perfect pairing in No Beavers Were Harmed, a luxurious Vanilla Bean Nitro Stout from the folks at our local brewery Sawstone Brewing Co. With hints of vanilla and a creamy nitro finish it is perfect for the film's wild highs and emotional lows. Please treat him as you normally would, but address yourself to the puppet.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - kentuckyfriedcritics@gmail.comPatreon - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#TheBeaver #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #NoBeaversWereHarmed

This week we ventured into the post-apocalyptic robot filled ruins of 1996's Omega Doom. A very 90s aesthetic, cyborg cowboys, and Cold War vibes fill this low-budget reimagining of a western classic. Starring the legendary Rutger Hauer and providing a truly unique take on the Yojimbo story, this hidden gem was bad... in all the right ways.To help us wash down the radiation and rust, we’re cracking open a cold one that fits the theme perfectly, Peso in My Hand, a crisp, clean, and light-bodied Mexican lager by the people at Fretboard Brewing. A taste that cuts through the grit of this dusty dystopia. It's not quite "A Fistful of Dollars", but neither is the movie...He drinks water....with ice.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - kentuckyfriedcritics@gmail.comPatreon - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#OmegaDoom #MovieReview #Podcast #BeerPairing #PesoInMyHand

For this week's episode we venture into the surreal world of 1980s Canadian cinema to tackle The Peanut Butter Solution. A film that has lived rent-free in the "was that a fever dream?" corner of many people's brains for decades at this point. We break down the bizarre logic of hair-growing recipes, the questionable parenting of the 80s, and all the other madness. To wash down the stickiness of the plot (and cope with everything we had to witness), we’re sipping on a heavy hitter from Left Hand Brewing that perfectly mirrors the film's thick, nutty, and slightly dark undertones. The Peanut Butter Milk Stout was the perfect peanut butter solution for us as we took on The Fright and this strange tale.Human hair grows only half an inch a month, no more. This week on the podcast we grabbed our proton packs and P.K.E. meters as we headed back to the 1984 paranormal masterpiece, Ghostbusters. Whether you're in it for the antics of our ghost busting team or the terrifying elegance of Gozer the Gozerian and the terror dogs, we’re breaking down why this film remains a gold standard for the horror-comedy genre(s). To match the nostalgia of the film (and the entire Ghostbusters Empire), we are pairing this review with Ecto Punch by Atrium Brewing. This hard soda is a vibrant, citrusy throwback that looks like it was siphoned directly out of Slimer himself. With nods to it's own iconic movie connection and a flavor to match, you should throw out your own ghost trap to catch your own can.Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say. Pack your bags and hide the fine china for this week's episode as we revisit the 1987 classic, Harry and the Hendersons. We discuss John Lithgow’s impeccable "dad energy" and whether this film actually makes a compelling case for the existence of Bigfoot as a gentle giant. Is Harry welcome in your home?To help us tame the beast, we found one of our own. We cracked open a Screamin' Sasquatch (or two) from Abettor Brewing Company. A delicious crisp hit of lime and a nice light flavor. It’s a pairing so perfect, it’s practically Harry approved. Have you ever seen a baby pigeon? Well, neither have I. I got a hunch they exist.Instagram - @kentuckyfriedcriticsFacebook - www.facebook.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsYouTube - www.youtube.com/@kfcriticsE-mail - kentuckyfriedcritics@gmail.comPatreon - patreon.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsKo-Fi (to buy us a beer) - ko-fi.com/kentuckyfriedcriticsMerch - bonfire.com/store/kentucky-fried-critics#HarryandtheHendersons #Bigfoot #MovieReview #BeerPairing #AbettorBrewing
