Gary Witta
Good morning.
Blessing Adio Junior
Morning, Gary. How's it going?
Gary Witta
Yeah, good. It's my third time doing this in relatively short succession. This is good.
Blessing Adio Junior
I know. I think that. I think that the fans have demanded it.
Gary Witta
You just make this a regular thing. Let's just. Let's just say it's a regular thing.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm trying to. I'm trying to get Widow back.
Gary Witta
I. I don't care what day of the week it is.
Blessing Adio Junior
I love having you back, Gary. Of course. I love that you. You've came with trinkets.
Gary Witta
Got some show, a little bit of show and tell for you today. Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
What's up?
Gary Witta
So it was a slow news day, so, I mean, do you want to. Do you want to just do it now? You want to get out of the way?
Blessing Adio Junior
Let's do it now.
Gary Witta
So I brought, you know, we were talking about retro emulation and handhelds and things like that. I actually brought a couple of the handhelds in because I know you were curious about them.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yes.
Gary Witta
So we can. We'll take a very quick look at those if. If you're interested. But first, I wanted to wish you.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh.
Gary Witta
A merry Christmas.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh. Oh, I'm so excited for whatever this is for audio listeners. Gary here has a gift that he's just presented me. Right. I'm. If I'm going to guess, I'm going to guess that this is some kind of, like, really cool British snack.
Gary Witta
No, it's really. He's related to something we were talking about recently. And by the way, I have to give Leah credit. She wrapped this because I can't.
Blessing Adio Junior
I was going to say this is really good.
Gary Witta
She did.
Blessing Adio Junior
I feel. I feel bad for just tearing it open. I know.
Gary Witta
I mean, I agree. When something. It's like a nice cake that you don't want to Cut into.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, my God. No way. Holy shit. Gary.
Gary Witta
You said you wanted one, right? Gary, you were curious about getting one.
Blessing Adio Junior
Gary, thank you so much. Can I give you a hug? This is awesome.
Gary Witta
Yeah, give me a hug. Okay.
Blessing Adio Junior
This is so nice.
Gary Witta
Merry Christmas.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, man. So Gary got me an Apple tv. Holy shit. Look. Look at this. I'm here. Camera if you want to zoom in. Holy shit.
Gary Witta
It's by far, I think, the best box that you can plug into your TV for, you know, Netflix and whatnot. And the Apple Arcade stuff with games is really. I know you said you were curious, but you didn't.
Blessing Adio Junior
You were.
Gary Witta
You were not sure about getting.
Blessing Adio Junior
And I was mainly scared about falling down the Apple pipeline of, like, you know, getting one of these.
Gary Witta
Well, I worried about that. I don't. I don't want. I don't want to turn you into an Apple junkie. I don't think this is necessarily a gateway drug. It's just a really good little box. I think you'll enjoy having that connected.
Blessing Adio Junior
To your tv, because I do. Like, I have. The only thing I have right now is my Amazon Fire Stick, and I like it. But there are things every now and then where I'm like, man, the connectivity between my Fire Stick and my Alexa app isn't as strong as I'd like it to be. Like, it doesn't. Listen.
Gary Witta
This is such a big step up from a Fire Stick, it's not even funny.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Dual sensor and Xbox controller that. And play your. Play the Apple Arcade games on it. Or you can get the Steam Link app and you can run. You can Steam Link games from your PC and you can also run emulators on. You can put retro arc on it and run emulated games. You can do all kinds of stuff.
Blessing Adio Junior
That's all I need to hear.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, my God. Thank you so much for this. You're very welcome, man.
Gary Witta
You're very welcome.
Blessing Adio Junior
Merry Christmas.
Gary Witta
Once you get it connected, let me know how. How it works out for you.
Blessing Adio Junior
Will do. Now, I want to talk about these handhelds, because I'm looking at them, and I love the aesthetic of these. That one on the left right there is just straight up a Game Boy.
Gary Witta
So, yeah, we were talking about retro emulation and how it's been a hobby of mine recently. And I've got a couple of these. There's more, but these are just a couple of the cheapest ones. This is from a company called Anbernic, and you can just buy these on Amazon. This one is very much like a. I mean, if you look at. That is almost exactly the form factor of a Game Boy. Right. Sells everything, but with a bigger screen.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. It knows what it is.
Gary Witta
And in fact, they sell one that is exactly the Game Boy colors. Like, you'd have to look closely to know it's not a Game Boy.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
And then this one is more the kind of horizontal format where the controls are on either side. Do you prefer handhelds with the controls on the bottom of the screen or on either side of the screen?
Blessing Adio Junior
I'll say, like, probably on the sides. I think that's where we kind of evolved.
Gary Witta
Okay, so we'll stick with this one for right now. This one also has thumbsticks. Yeah, this will emulate.
Blessing Adio Junior
It looks like a mini switch.
Gary Witta
Yeah, this will emulate up to like a PS1. I think some of the. Some of the fancier, more expensive handhelds will go all the way up to like a switch, basically and emulate everything. But let's hold it. Yeah, absolutely. What he was going to say, like, pick a game, like. Like a classic arcade game or an old Genesis game or something. We'll see if it's on here.
Blessing Adio Junior
Like any of them.
Gary Witta
Yeah, I mean, just anything that comes to mind.
Blessing Adio Junior
Shaq Fu.
Gary Witta
Shaq Fu.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
That's a good choice.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. Let's see if you have that.
Gary Witta
On what platform?
Blessing Adio Junior
Genesis.
Gary Witta
Okay, let's see if we can find it real quick. Okay, let's see. Where's the Genesis on here?
Blessing Adio Junior
If it has. I'm gonna be so.
Gary Witta
So I'm pretty sure it's on here, dude. Let's say I'm just trying to find the. Trying to find the correct.
Blessing Adio Junior
Other people in chat are throwing out suggestions to you. Somebody, Marcus in chat said Moonwalker.
Gary Witta
Oh, that might be a good one, actually. Hold on, let's see. I'm just trying to find it. Sometimes this has got weird names like gbc. That's the Game Boy PC engine.
Blessing Adio Junior
Happy Friday. I was gonna start. I'll start this off by talking about how, like, my Friday's going really well. Okay. The Wicked soundtrack came out this morning for the movie.
Gary Witta
Oh, are you a wicked person? Excited about that, Gary?
Blessing Adio Junior
I am, like the biggest wicked person. I watched the movie already. I watched it a couple nights ago. It's so good. Probably one of my favorite movies ever. And I don't want to, like, overhype it for people that aren't wicked pilled as I am. It's. It's a musical. It's a great, great musical movie. But I am so into the music of Wicked. And I recently saw the. The, like, the stage play live for the first time. I hear the music.
Gary Witta
The movie is very good.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, it's incredible.
Gary Witta
Although I found out that they've done another one of these bait and switches where it's like. It's only half the story, right?
Blessing Adio Junior
It is only half the story. It is a part one. But I think. Honestly, I think it works out for what they're doing with it. Because Wicked, if you've watched the musical, it is like a. There's a clear cutting off point of, like, the first half and the second half. Right, Right. Like, when you hit interment. Intermission, you get into that second act, and it really is like. It almost already feels like a part two to the story. Yeah. So I think it's true to what the. Like, I think the movie is true to what the musical is.
Barrett Courtney
And honestly, if you're just gonna keep the good parts of Wicked into one movie.
Gary Witta
And I wrote. I read a review that said it still feels like a complete.
Blessing Adio Junior
It feels super complete. If you'll so complete into a Barrett's point.
Gary Witta
I believe you requested Shaq Fu.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, my God. Yeah, it's there.
Gary Witta
There you go. Take it.
Blessing Adio Junior
Holy shit. Oh, I like it. It's, like, heavier than I thought I was gonna be.
Gary Witta
Yeah, I mean, it's. I think I got that for, like, 60, 70 bucks. It's ridiculously. They're ridiculously cheap. And there are, like, more. There are fancier ones available. Like, my big project right now is I bought a Mac mini. And I've got. I'm using that as, like, a really powerful emulation station. So that runs everything from like, Atari 6, 20, 600, to, like, I've got Super Mario Galaxy.
Blessing Adio Junior
Right? Yeah.
Gary Witta
So it will run pretty much. These emulators will run pretty much everything. It's just. It's. It's a lot of digging around and hassle. Like, get everything set up and working the way that you want it, but.
Blessing Adio Junior
Once you've got it, guess what I.
Gary Witta
Got running on there on the Mac Mini yesterday?
Blessing Adio Junior
What's that?
Gary Witta
NBA Street Volume 2.
Blessing Adio Junior
No way.
Gary Witta
Yep, Fully playable.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, my God.
Gary Witta
Perfectly emulated.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, my God. And it looks great, too.
Gary Witta
Yeah, right?
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, my God.
Gary Witta
I don't know if the camera picks up the screen at all.
Blessing Adio Junior
Show this screen. You would have to, like, punch in, but you can. You can sort of see it.
Gary Witta
That is Shaq Fu.
Blessing Adio Junior
That is straight up Shaq Fu. Yeah. This is incredible.
Gary Witta
I mean, basically what's happened is technology has advanced over the last couple of Decades so quickly that these major car and even arcade even like you know, arcade machines that were once deemed like beyond our reach. You know, remember how like the home like the NES port of like an arcade game wouldn't be as good, right. Because the hardware wasn't as good. Now it's better. Arcades are basically extinct now because you can. Everything they could do you can now do on a machine.
Blessing Adio Junior
That is crazy to think about the fact that we had to have these boxes in our living rooms or like right next to our TV to run these eight bit games. And now like straight up, it's just on this little pad.
Gary Witta
Let me show you one of my.
Blessing Adio Junior
You take it anywhere, doesn't even waste the battery that much.
Gary Witta
Let me see if I can show you one of my. One of my favorite things real quick. This might not be the most interesting thing for people that no do that because I also.
Blessing Adio Junior
Because I was going to talk a little bit more about Wicked. Just the fact that soundtracks up been listening to it this morning and was loving it. Right. Like I think it's a fantastic movie, fantastic musical. One of my favorites. My favorite musical but like one of my favorite movies at this point. As I was listening to it this morning, I got a notification on my phone that Kendrick Lamar had dropped like a new video on YouTube and I watched it. Turns out he surprise dropped a new album this morning. Oh wow. I've been listening to the new album like Shadow Drop the hour before this episode before kfc been listening to it and it was to the point where like I'm halfway through, it's like 9:30 or whatever and like somebody's knocking on the door to deliver mail and Barrett has like run through and get the. Get the package because I don't hear it because I have this music just turned up all the way in my ears. Right.
Barrett Courtney
Chat. Let me tell you something. It was like we've. We've assumed for the last couple of months because Blessing is usually the first one here in the office that the person who comes and knocks on the door to deliver packages is just like the softest knocker. You know, just like doesn't really knock that hard because Blessing always misses these packages. And Blessing is really close to the front door.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm the closest to the door like right, right next to cool rig.
Barrett Courtney
And let me tell you, kind of actually being more on time some days this week where I've actually heard the knock that happens when packages are delivered. It's a really fucking loud knock which. And I can hear it across like the building and Blessing is right there, and he cannot hear this man knock, knocking his heart out. And I'm concerned about Blessing's hearing within the next five years.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, no. It's going downhill. But I've also been listening to very loud music since I was.
Gary Witta
I'm gonna say you murdering. You should do the, the Apple hearing test with the AirPods because it will test your hearing now and tell you if your hearing.
Blessing Adio Junior
I don't need that. I already know that my hearing's fucked.
Gary Witta
Is your hearing bad?
Blessing Adio Junior
Like, whenever I'm at a party, whenever I'm at like a club or any, any place with loud music and people are like yelling over each other or whatever to talk to each other, there would be certain moments where I'm like, oh, certainly they can't hear. People can't hear each other. But yeah, they can. And I'm like, right standing right there, and I cannot hear a word anybody saying. So I know my hearing is going bad, but it is what it is. Like, you know, I'll do what I can to listen to Kendall Kumar at max volume. If it means I don't hear in 10 years, so be it. I got to listen to.
Gary Witta
This is the thing I wanted to show you. This is one of my all time favorite arcade games. This is Outrun. This is the arcade version. Oh, that's the fucking arcade game.
Blessing Adio Junior
Holy cow.
Gary Witta
I used to put quarters in when I was 20, you know, 10p pieces or 50p pieces when I was a kid or what you could call it quarters here, I guess. And like, all these arcade games, I was like, oh, man, I wish I could have them in my home.
Blessing Adio Junior
Mm.
Gary Witta
Like, I'd want to reach back in time to like the 12 year old me and say, one, one day, my son Padawan, you will walk around with all of these games in your fucking pocket.
Blessing Adio Junior
You're gonna like, look, I'll be like, what? That's nutty. Like, your child's gonna be, how can that be real? And yet your kids will be playing the PlayStation 6. And you're going to look at them and be like, yo, this, in 30 years, you're going to be playing this on the smallest handheld God of war.
Gary Witta
Imagine what we're going to be doing in another 20 years. I do think that, like, oh, we're.
Blessing Adio Junior
Going to be losing all our jobs.
Gary Witta
Flat screen panels will be. Will go away. There'll be some kind of, you know, like the headsets that we have now. I'm a big believer in VR, but the technology is not really there. Yet it's still too clunky and heavy and annoying in many ways. But it will eventually come down to, like, a pair of glasses like this or even contact lenses, where you're just like, holodeck time. We'll get there.
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean, I do.
Gary Witta
I believe it.
Blessing Adio Junior
I believe the technology will be there, but I think the technology has to fit within, like, social circumstances. That's why I think, like, the flat screen television is ever going away, because, like, you need something to sit, like, you know, to have in front of you while you're sitting next to somebody else.
Gary Witta
Yes.
Blessing Adio Junior
I feel like people aren't. I don't know when or if people can be at a place where you're just sitting next to each other, both with, like, AR glasses on and watching the same thing, like, just put up a tv.
Gary Witta
Well, I think we'll get there. I mean, a lot. Again, a lot of things that seem very quaint to us now from, like, the 80s and 90s are going to the things that we now consider cutting edge are going to seem very quaint to the next generation.
Blessing Adio Junior
Fair. Gary, enough about all that.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior

Gary Witta
I've been enjoying these chunks.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, have So.
Gary Witta
I didn't mean to speak over you.
Blessing Adio Junior
No, go for it.
Gary Witta
I watched a couple of these. I watched you guys react to the reveal of the PlayStation 5 back in the day.
Blessing Adio Junior
Can I tell you that one? I love the work that Roger's putting into this, but also I hate the fact that, like, you're showing me in 2020 because I don't look like the same person. It's like the angle. It's the fucking hair. Like, it's.
Barrett Courtney
But blessed. Think about it this way.
Blessing Adio Junior
That ain't me.
Barrett Courtney
Think about it this way. You have aged like, a fine one.
Blessing Adio Junior
Thank you, Barrett.
Gary Witta
In that version, you look like Andy from Alien Romulus, because you've got the same style of hair.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm not. See, I'm not saying any Rob or alien Romulus, he's.
Gary Witta
He's the best thing in it. So what was interesting was everybody, and I remember Tim Gettys going, oh, that's going to look so sick in my living room or in my. In my, you know, my game room or whatever, everyone reacted. Was there anyone at the time that was going, hold on, though? Isn't actually a bit silly because my first reaction of many people when they first saw it was, they've gone too far. This is. This is silly.
Blessing Adio Junior
I remember because wasn't the whole thing that, like, the disk drive version looked weird? Because it looked like it had.
Gary Witta
Yeah, well, it's got that weird.
Blessing Adio Junior
I never liked.
Gary Witta
The Slim one. Looks so much better.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. Like, I remember the disk drive being a conversation, but I feel like the slim one looks good.
Barrett Courtney
Look at Greg's face here.
Gary Witta
Yeah, I mean, look. I mean, that says it all, right. That's practically a meme, that face.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. It was always the thing where it's like, oh, man, y'all are doing a lot here. But I.
Gary Witta
The slim, massive, massive improvement. Particularly the, you know, the old digital version of it. And then the Pro with the race, the fins, the stripes on the side, I think looks really good.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
But, like. So when we bought a PS5 Pro recently, so the original launch, fatty disc drive model, which is the. I didn't want the disk drive model, but it's the only one I could get at the time. Can you remember, they were hard to find for a long time. PlayStation fives, we finally took that and I moved it into the bedroom so we can have a, you know, a console back there. But Leah, my wife, she hates the look of it so much. When we first got it, she was like, look, if you want to have that in the room and fine, but we're going to. We're going to get like a new AV cabinet where you can, like, hide it behind something. Because that thing is, like, so offensive to my aesthetic sensibilities. And so we, like. We hid it away and now that it's in the bedroom, I went out and bought some of those replacement plates. I got just, like the black plates for it because we have like a black, like, TV cabinet thing in the. In the bedroom.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
And I just made it, like, super. Like now it just, like, kind of disappears and it's less offensive. But looking at it now, having seen, and I guess it's true with a lot of consoles, when they do, like, the Slimmer version. You go back, look at the original go man.
Blessing Adio Junior
That was like.
Gary Witta
That was a chubby.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. No, that thing is chunky.
Gary Witta
Yeah, it was and it is. The PlayStation 5 is still crazy chunky.
Blessing Adio Junior
How do you feel about the Xbox series X?
Gary Witta
I mean the Xbox series X is chonky, but it doesn't bother me because it's like. It's just very inoffensive in its design. It's just a cuboid. Right. That's all it is.
Blessing Adio Junior
But it's so like brutal.
Gary Witta
Honestly, I think I prefer that to the try hard. You know, Finn, we're going to over design everything. I mean really what was interesting about the aesthetic is that they went in like completely diametrically opposite directions. Right. Xbox was like as simple as possible.
Blessing Adio Junior
Xbox. I look at it and I'm like I could use this as a weapon. Whereas like the PlayStation 5. I look at this and I'm like this is going to become sentient and take over the world.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
Barrett, what's up?
Barrett Courtney
It's the second time this morning Gary has called the original PS5A Chubby.
Gary Witta
Chubby.
Barrett Courtney
And we just. We gotta.
Gary Witta
I got to calling it the fatty.
Blessing Adio Junior
It's a chubby. I would say the PS5 original is. What is the biggest.
Gary Witta
Here's one for you. What is the biggest console by mass. By like volume. Oh, that's a good Neo Geo. Maybe the place. Maybe the PlayStation 5.
Blessing Adio Junior
You're behind my. I cannot even tell you how big a neogeo is.
Gary Witta
Neo Geo was big. And did you ever see the cartridges? The cartridges. Cartridges were fucking bigger than console. They were huge. Oh because it was the same rom. It was the same board that was in the arcade version. It was literally there was. You could actually play the arcade game at home.
Blessing Adio Junior
People saying what I thought which is like the OG PS3.
Gary Witta
I feel like I think the 5 is bigger.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think the.
Gary Witta
Someone needs to look it up. Like whatever the kind of the 3D. Like what? Not by weight but like actual size.
Blessing Adio Junior
That's my thing is five is bigger by like size. But I do think the PS3 is heavier and denser.
Gary Witta
Like that's the disc model of the original fatty. PS5 has got to be the biggest one.
Blessing Adio Junior
I can't think what would be bigger the console. I think you're right.
Gary Witta
Go through the history that you're always pretty small. Right. Nes.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
This was so this has been done by weight.
Barrett Courtney
2024 the PS5 came out okay. And this is by way. It was the PSY to do by mass 11 pounds I have.
Blessing Adio Junior
I have to imagine the PS3 is still heavier than the PS5. PS5, it's got to be.
Gary Witta
I didn't hate the aesthetic of the original PS3. The slim version they came out with was better.
Barrett Courtney
So the base model of the PlayStation 5 is 9.9 pounds.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, I was going to say lighter.
Barrett Courtney
Than the OG PS3. Oh, heavier than the original.
Gary Witta
I think weight to me is less interesting because once you've set it down somewhere, weight's irrelevant. Right. It's not like you're carrying it around like a handheld. I'm talking about how much space. I think for a lot of people.
Blessing Adio Junior
The PS5 I'll say is better.
Gary Witta
I bet you a lot of people when they got their PlayStation 5 are like, fuck, where am I going to put this? Because like usually you'd like slot it into like a little thing in your cabinet. It wouldn't fit into a lot of those slots. Yeah, not. Certainly not with enough like ventilation around it. Right. You go. You also allow for some room around it for the thermal shit.
Blessing Adio Junior
I throw out the 3do out there. I don't know if I've seen 3do.
Gary Witta
Well, it depends which model. There were like various. 3do was like a. Was like an openly licensed technology that any manufacturer could make.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Like there's cdtv, cdi. Oh, there you go. The verge is on the case.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
The PS5 is the biggest game console in modern history. 100%. Yeah. I don't know how anything seriously challenges Gary's white.
Blessing Adio Junior
Right. It's the Chubby. Yeah.
Gary Witta
It's the dis. The disc Chubby. I'm going to keep saying Chubby now that I know it annoys Barrett. Like he's back.
Barrett Courtney
He had a different name for it.
Blessing Adio Junior
Of course. This entire week is reaction week, so come relive some of our favorite E3 and press conference reactions over on YouTube.com kind of funny. Our Patreon producers Delaney Twining and Carl Jacobs today brought to you by Sonic at topgolf Aura Frames and the visual triangle merch. But we'll tell you about that later. For now, let's begin with what is and forever will be the Roper Report. It's time for some news. We have five stories today, a baker's dozen, starting with our number one. Black Myth Wukong grabs a surprise Game of the year win at the Golden Joysticks. This is Oli Welsh at Polygon. Black Myth Wukong, the debut game from Chinese developer Game Science, has swept past the likes of astrobot, Final Fantasy 7, Rebirth and Helldivers 2 to claim the title of ultimate game of the year at the UK's Golden Joystick Awards. Final Fantasy 7, Rebirth and Helldivers 2 were the biggest winners of the night, taking home four trophies apiece. Helldivers 2 won both critics choice award and console game of the year. PC game of the year was satisfactory and best game expansion was Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Game of the year front runner Astrobot had to make do with best audio design and studio of the year for its developer team Asoby, while critical darling Metaphor e Fantasio went home empty handed. Boom.
Gary Witta
Too many good games. Something. You know, it's one of those things that like, well, that shouldn't have been nominated. This should have been nominated. But then you're like, okay, but what do you take out to make room for it? You know, it's like everything's so good.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. And like I think this is an interesting tone setter, I think for the future award shows. Right. Like the game awards and other stuff that's coming up. Because I predicted, I think Barrett, Barrett or maybe maybe Andy for like the game awards predictions predicted that Metaphori Fantasia was going to take the whole thing. Take Game of the Year. Barrett shrugging I think it was maybe me and Andy. Yeah.
Barrett Courtney
I think maybe you and Andy guessed that was going to be game of the year. I can actually pull it up because I think Tim saved all of the predictions somewhere.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. See if we can pull it up.
Barrett Courtney
I still in the like, I think it's split between astro, Final Fantasy 7.
Blessing Adio Junior
And metaphor because now, now I'm like, oof. I might not have made the right decision as far as metaphor taking game of the year, but you also have.
Barrett Courtney
To remember for the Golden Joysticks, almost all but four categories are voted on by the.
Blessing Adio Junior
By fans. Yes.
Barrett Courtney
And the game awards is different and I know a lot of people don't really know how that all works. But there is a fan vote for the game awards which carries a 10% weight of the full vote. Most of the Vote is weighted towards the games, media industry, the elites, the 1%, which includes people from. Which includes outlets from all around the globe.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yes.
Gary Witta
And I know it's very capitalist when you think about it, isn't it? It's like, you know, the elite 1% making accounting for 90% of the decision making.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, but like that's award shows, right?
Gary Witta
It doesn't offend me because I'm in the one. I'm a member of the game.
Blessing Adio Junior
We're going to talk about this with this because Black Myth winning game of the year, right? Like, I feel like we're talking about what ends up being a popularity contest at some point.
Gary Witta
I said to you before the show, as we were talking about, I said, I said, what won overall game of the year? And you said, black Myth Wukong. I was like, oh, is it really that good? And you without hesitation just said, no.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, I think it's good. I don't think it's good enough for a game of the year in the year that we've had.
Gary Witta
Good enough to be nominated, but not to win.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think good enough to where, I understand a nomination, but I think winning over things like Astrobot, over things like Metaphor, Refantasio over Final Fantasy 7, Rebirth.
Gary Witta
And Helldivers don't give it its flowers.
Blessing Adio Junior
And Balatro, for that matter. Right?
Gary Witta
Yep.
Blessing Adio Junior
But I could, I could see it being nominated. I wouldn't nominate myself, but I like a nomination. I totally get a win. That's where I'm like, all right, I guess. But I think when you're talking about something that is fan voted, I understand. Because this was one of, if not the most popular game of the year.
Gary Witta
What. Okay, I'm not going to ask you what I, what you think is the best game of the year or what should win of the, of the, of the games that are in the mix. And it's always, it always ends up being like the same five, six, seven games with minor deviation between one award ceremony and another. Which, which overall winner do you think would cause the least controversy? Where people would just go, yeah, fair enough.
Blessing Adio Junior
Astrobot. Astro.
Gary Witta
I was going to say easily Astrobot.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Because it's just a. It's just a fucking video game. It's just a.
Blessing Adio Junior
It's great. You can't argue against it. And like, here's the thing, right? It's been fun following game awards reactions because there's been a particular reaction with Balatro where it was announced as a game award nominee and a lot of people were like, oh, fucking card game. Oh, why Would you. Why would this be nominated over xyz? And then like, it's the same bullshit.
Gary Witta
Applied to vampire surv.
Blessing Adio Junior
But then days later, like, the same people will then come out and be like, hey, guys, I played Bellachio.
Gary Witta
Now we're right. I've seen the light.
Blessing Adio Junior
It takes. Give somebody Bellacho and be like, hey, just play it. I'll give you an hour. Just play for an hour. Guess what? They're going to play for five hours. They're going to come out of the cave and be like, oh, I get it. This is.
Gary Witta
This is why I generally keep my mouth shut around awards season. Because I very rarely. I've only played like, of the five or six games that are nominated, I've only played a couple. So, like, I can't say this or doesn't this does or doesn't deserve it because I haven't played the game. Yeah, it's the same. It's the same with everyone. Like, play before you have an opinion. Play the fucking game.
Blessing Adio Junior
And. Well, here's where I come down on Astrobot being the least offensive is. I think it both hits. As far as it being a game that people recognize for the kind of game it is. It's a third person platformer or. Yeah, it's a third. It's a third person platform 3D platformers. Why?
Gary Witta
What I mean, it's a story genre, right?
Blessing Adio Junior
Story genre is coming from PlayStation first party. It's very polished. It is technically a fantastic game and then also creatively a fantastic game.
Gary Witta
It's suitable for everyone, right? Every.
Blessing Adio Junior
Everyone.
Gary Witta
It's just an easy game to like. Like, what's not to like?
Blessing Adio Junior
It checks.
Gary Witta
It's beautiful.
Blessing Adio Junior
It checks all the boxes.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
Which is why I think it's the most inoffensive game of the year winner.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
But I look at something like, if I'm taking that right, and I'm looking at Black Myth, which I will put on the side of it is a game that presents really well. Gorgeous cutscenes, gorgeous visuals, has combat that like. Yeah, it's all about. As far as, like, it being the more difficult souls, like, you know, leaning type of thing. Black Myth, Wukong has all the characteristics of game of the year as far as the type of game it is. Balatro has the fucking quality. And that's where I. I think that's where, you know, we come down on Astrobot being the least offensive. Is that like, it's the best of both worlds. You look at it and you're like, oh, that's something that could be game of the year, but yeah, I think Bellacho has the stuff. It backs it up. Black Myth Wukong, I think has places where I can ding it here and there. Right. I'm not in love with the, with the black myth Wukong combat.
Gary Witta
What do you think would be the most controversial? Do you think it would be Balatro because of the lo fi.
Blessing Adio Junior
No.
Gary Witta
Nature of it.
Barrett Courtney
No, I know what the most controversial is. What would it be at least for the game awards, what would it be? Elden Ring, Shadow of the Year.
Gary Witta
Oh, right, because of the dlc. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just about the nomination of that. Right. Golden Joysics put it in its own category, right?
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, Golden Joy. So I didn't even finish reading the article, so the article continues. Indie favorite Balatro won two awards. The result is something of a shock in the game of the year race. Though popular with gamers, Black Myth didn't review as well as some of his competition. While the majority of its huge sales success comes from the Chinese market, unlike other gaming awards, most categories in the golden joysticks are 100% determined by public vote. So Black Myth's win indicates just how activated its fanbase is. The game's solid action gameplay and cutting edge spectacular visuals have clearly won it broad support. The Golden Joystick Awards is a venerable British institution that has been around in one form or another since 1983. The first game of the year winner was Jetpack by Ultimate Play of the Game, the studio that would later become Rare.
Gary Witta
That's right.
Blessing Adio Junior
The Golden Joysticks is owned by Future, which publishes outlets like PC Gamer Edge and Games Radar. Bless you.
Barrett Courtney
Remember how when you have to beat Jetpack to be able to beat Donkey Kong 64.
Blessing Adio Junior
Crazy how that was game of the year that year. Like video games have grown and like evolved so much to think that like.
Barrett Courtney
Jetpack kind of fun though.
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean it was fun, like don't you know, that's a good game.
Gary Witta
When I was a kid growing up in the UK and it was all like Spectrum and Commodore 64 Ultimate Play, the game were, I guess, kind of like the rare of, remember Rare's golden age. Like they, they were the, they were the guys. I mean they made all the best games.
Blessing Adio Junior
We don't put enough respect on Rare as.
Gary Witta
We don't. We don't because a lot of people don't know their history. I think it's only when like the Rare Classics Arcade compilation came out and I was very glad to see they did include all of the old Ultimate 60. All the Ultimate Play the game Saberwolf, Night Law, the World, Jetpack, Attic Attack, Lunar Jetman.
Blessing Adio Junior
Like they've been around forever and yeah, they're putting out classics.
Gary Witta
They've been for so long.
Blessing Adio Junior
They went into the Super Nintendo era and made the Donkey K Country games and like they made Killer Instinct and more. You then hop into the MC4 era and they were like, they're the one developer that I think kept up with Nintendo themselves as far as quality releases.
Gary Witta
Yeah, I mean they were like, they were like the insomniac of, of to the Nintendo for that era. Right. Or Naughty Dog. They were like the, the biggest third.
Blessing Adio Junior
Party is carried by Nintendo games and Rare games. Like you remove rare from the equation, the NCD4 gets a lot more boring. Right. Like yeah, you, you miss out on. Yeah, like Banjo, Golden Eyed, Perfect Dark.
Gary Witta
Diddy Kong, rc, Pro Am, all this stuff.
Blessing Adio Junior
All this stuff. So shout out to Rare. And also they're still doing their thing nowadays.
Gary Witta
They're still doing their thing. Microsoft owns them now.
Blessing Adio Junior
Right.
Gary Witta
And they're still, they're still, they're still.
Blessing Adio Junior
Being successful with Sea of Thieves. But yeah, like going through. I'm not going to read all the categories because there's a lot of categories here. But yeah, Best audio design went to, went to Astrobot. Best soundtrack went to Rebirth. Best storytelling went to Rebirth. Helldivers 1. Best multiplayer game. Gary.
Gary Witta
Yeah. And best console game as well.
Blessing Adio Junior
Best console game as well, which I.
Gary Witta
Was glad to see. Oh, on a personal note, guess what? Is that my Helldivers news. I'm going to hit the level cap today.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh shit. Look at you. Holy. How long does that take?
Gary Witta
I don't know how long it takes other people. It took me almost a thousand hours. I'm like 980 something hours played in that game. That's 100. So I was going to play. I actually came out, I actually briefly came out of streaming retirement early this, this, this week to play some of it because I could see I was going to hit the level cap. I should do it on stream just for fun. I haven't streamed in ages. So I put my stream back together and last night I was playing off stream and I was like. So I was. I'm a level 149 right now and I can tell like there's a little sliver of XP left.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
But the next mission is going to ping me and so I'm gonna. After I get home later today, I might stream some this afternoon and we'll hit, we'll hit the level cap.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh yeah. That's awesome. Congratulations, Gary.
Gary Witta
That's really cool. I.
Blessing Adio Junior
What are you playing that on? PC?
Gary Witta
I play mostly on PC. Sometimes they play upstairs in the living room, but it's still the. Until they add cross Progression for the PlayStation 5. Yeah. I'll run it via Steam link and it runs beautifully.
Blessing Adio Junior
Does it bum you out that you're not getting the platinum while you're on?
Gary Witta
Not. I really don't care about trophies or achievements. They don't mean anything to me.
Blessing Adio Junior
So, yeah, Black myth Wukong wins. I think I titled this episode the first game of the year mainly because the golden joysticks is like, I think the first like major. Oh, this is, this is one of consequence here. And like to go back to the earlier point, right. Barrett made the good point that like, this is fan voted and so like, you know, that is a very big determining factor on how this wins this game of the year. But I do still think Black myth.
Barrett Courtney
Wukong, I will say, no matter how you feel about it, I think the one thing that we can all agree upon, it has a very big and active fan base on the Internet that pays attention. But here's the thing, whenever it is mentioned, here's the thing that is all I mean is say about it.
Gary Witta
But I don't, I didn't want to.
Barrett Courtney
Let me tell you about like the.
Blessing Adio Junior
We treat that fan base like they're bigger than they are. Like they have like big waves. As far as like, I didn't.
Gary Witta
I was. I've got the same vibe. Baron. I didn't want to bring it up because I don't want to go down. I don't want to open that. That door. But it does feel like a lot of the people who love Black myth Wukong are the same people that downvote other games for being too woke or whatever. Do you know what I mean? Like, there's. I feel like there's a bit of an overlap. Are we touching on dangerous territory here?
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean, it's not dangerous territory, like, fuck them. But also, I think it's more so.
Barrett Courtney
But it's also I don't want to put everybody who's a fan of black myth into just like one like camp.
Blessing Adio Junior
Right.
Barrett Courtney
Like, that's not what I'm trying to say.
Blessing Adio Junior
But I also don't think you can put most people who are a fan of Wukong in that camp. Yeah, like, that's kind of where I'm coming from. Where, like for me, I mean, I.
Gary Witta
Think there's a contingent within it for sure.
Blessing Adio Junior
And it's the thing where, you know, you have a. You have a glass of water. A crazy metaphor I'm going to give, but you have a glass of water and, like, putting a few drops of poison in that glass of water, guess what taints the whole thing. Where to wear now, Like, a lot of people don't want to touch that fucking glass of wine.
Gary Witta
And you see that with the Star wars fandom. You see it with all over. A few rotten apples in the barrel can, like, really stink up.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, you see that with, like, even Rick and Morty, right? Yeah. Like, there's so many IPS out there that, like, might be good IPs that might have great stuff. Great stuff to it. I'm somebody who. I like Stellar Blade a lot, but the same exact fan base that latch themselves on to Black myth to fight against the woke. Guess what? They did the same thing with Stellar Blade. But most people who like Stellar Blade probably don't give a fuck about, like, what those people are talking about. They just want to play in action.
Gary Witta
My point, even in the chat right now, I can see that some people are throwing their toys out of the pram already. They've been triggered because we've dared say this, like, oh, you've proven my point right now.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. So, yeah, go for it, Barrett.
Barrett Courtney
I. It's just, I feel like there's a very, very online section of people who are paying attention to, you know, what. Whatever they can do to support Black myth in certain ways. And it's going to be this. To the point where I think, like, that 10 weight of the Game awards, I'm gonna say, like, I know it's like, the math isn't, like, fully correct here, but, like, I'm gonna say roughly 8% of that 10% is gonna be voting for black.
Blessing Adio Junior
I. Yeah, I don't know. That's one of those ones where I don't know if I necessarily agree with, like, I think you're right as far as that. Those people are gonna be pushing for it. I think we're overestimating the power that those people have. I think blackmith is gonna get that push, but I think that's also because it sold 10 million sales in its first, like, three days.
Barrett Courtney
And I know people.
Gary Witta
These are people who are more, like, politically engaged. Right. It's like, a lot of the mainstream people aren't voting in the, like, games that they're not, like, I must support this game. I must go out on a limb to do everything to tell people how great this game is, but the people that love like Black Myth or you know, Stellar Blade or like games like this where there's like a very, very die hard fan base. Those guys go out and they go out and vote. Right? They're like, sure, yeah, I almost made a MAGA comparison. But like, I mean you definitely don't want to open that fucking door. But there's another.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think the crowd that you're talking about. Yeah, like, I think that's an apt comparison. Right. Like I. Here's the thing, Gary. I guarantee you that the people that are, the people that are online that are like, I like Black Myth because it does. It's not woke and it doesn't, you know, give in to the woke media and all this stuff. Those are the same people that are, that are like far right. That are voting for Trump. Yeah, like that's.
Gary Witta
Yeah, you're right. I already know. I'm not looking at the YouTube comments for this episode because we have definitely triggered all the. Right.
Blessing Adio Junior
And to be clear, to be clear, I'm not saying that that is most Black Myth Wukong fans fans. Just like it's not most stellar Blade fans. Right. I love Stellar Blade.
Barrett Courtney
That's what I'm trying to say as well. I just think there is a contributing factor there. I know people in the chat are really upset of us ignoring the audience who lives in China who support this game and are behind this game.
Blessing Adio Junior
To be clear, that's the point I'm trying to make is that I do think that this comes down to one, a gigantic audience in China and also a gigantic audience around the world who doesn't just live in China. Right. Like, like the game has a lot of players and a lot of people love this game. And the point I make to it is the fact that a lot of times it's a popularity contest more so than even just a quality contest. I think you need a bit of both for like Game of the Year and shit like that.
Gary Witta
Right.
Blessing Adio Junior
But like I think Black Myth, when you, when you're talking about popularity has it and yeah, there is a group of people that are toxic that are like, you know, using this as the flagship title for anti woke and fuck those people. Yeah. But I do think that it comes down to popularity.
Barrett Courtney
I do think there's another great point here and I don't know if they're making it for or against me, but I'm going to use it for big in the YouTube chat says. I mean look at Harry Potter last year most of the people that bought it didn't go online. And watch reviews either way. And that's the thing is that like just because blackmith had a lot of concurrence and a lot of sales in China doesn't mean all of those people are online and care about award shows that are happening in England and in America and stuff. So that's just like why I think about these other factors.
Gary Witta
And also I don't want to. I'm not trying to take anything away from Black Myth. It is by all accounts what you said. No, but like it is a supposedly a very good game if you're into like soulsborne games. It's a good example of that the.
Blessing Adio Junior
Because I forget the exact question you asked me of like I said is it.
Gary Witta
I said I said it One game of the year I was like is it really that good? And you said no when and you. And so not good enough to be game of the year.
Blessing Adio Junior
That's the thing is I'm answering to the fact that is it that is it the best game of the year? And I'll say confidently no right. Like that's a game that if I for me who played I guess maybe half right. I think I got like halfway through chapter three people who people watch me on stream play it. So like whatever the last stream was that I did with Andy that was the DLSS thing that's like where I dropped off. So I think that's probably around maybe 40% of the game for what I played. If I was going to put a number on it I'd be like oh this is an 8 out of 10, maybe 7.5 like somewhere around that it's a good to great video game. I don't think it's a one of the best action games I've ever played. Which for me is what I reserve to a 10 out of 10 experience eldering like you know Sekiro Shadows Die Twice I guess games made by FromSoftware. Like there's a tier of action game that I'm like oh this is a 10 out of 10 and Black Wukong just wasn't that for me. But it does do really cool things.
Gary Witta
The backlash to Erdtree has been interesting to me as a neutral observer because I never really got into Elden Ring but like the year that it won it pretty much ran the table right. Like it was unopposed pretty much. It just absolutely destroyed and pretty. It was like there was no controversy about Elden Ring like winning all these awards. Everyone agreed that it was one of the best games.
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean except for the God of War Audience, you know what I mean?
Gary Witta
Well, yeah, then that was. Because that was the other one at the time. But, like. And yet to go from that, where there was so much goodwill and so much overwhelming consensus, to now, the dlc, which I get, I understand, is very, very, very, very good as well. Right.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Now. But to see that get nominated, everyone goes swings hard the other way. Oh, that's outrageous. How dare you nominate that? It's just because it's dlc. I don't know where I stand on this. It just interested to see the pendulum swing back so hard the other way.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm somebody who. I think before this whole conversation, I was very. I've always been very much in the mind of, like, yeah, DLC should be nominated for Game of the Year. And it's, you know, especially if it's substantial, if it's impactful, if it's legitimately best.
Gary Witta
Standalone games. Yeah, why not?
Blessing Adio Junior
Now, I'm. I've also read a lot of the Internet in the last week as far as people's reaction to this, and I think I've swung into the gray area of, man. A lot of people who I respect and see as agreeable people feel very strongly about this thing.
Gary Witta
And so, like, in one direction or split?
Blessing Adio Junior
It's split directions.
Gary Witta
Okay.
Blessing Adio Junior
Right. And so I've kind of put myself kind of back in the gray area of, like, all right, I can kind of understand why people are upset, right. Like, mainly for the fact of. I think. I think of the scenario where Elden Ring keeps getting dlc, and guess what? Elden Ring keeps being Game of the Year. Now I'm somebody who's like, I don't think it matters that much Right. At the end of the year. At the end of the year, at the end of the day, Game of the Year, it's a subjective thing. It's voted on by who is voted on, and somebody establishes the rules. So if Geoff Keighley is, like, dlc is eligible. Guess what? DLC is eligible. And, like, that should just be it. If another outlet is like, and then.
Gary Witta
And then may the best game win.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, may the best game win. If another outlet's like, dlc is not eligible, then I also think that's okay. Right? Like, cool, right?
Gary Witta
Golden Joysticks puts DLC in its own category. They have a different set of rules, and that's fine.
Blessing Adio Junior
Exactly.
Gary Witta
So the question is, is a tree as legitimately as good as, if not better than, all the other standards?
Blessing Adio Junior
And I would say, yeah, like, I would say, yes, I think it's on par with those games, but. What's up, Barrett?
Barrett Courtney
Sorry, I finished your thought. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. But I guess I'm just on the place now where I just. I don't care enough to make the argument that Erdtree should be nominated for. Like, we should do it one way or another. I think it is just like, hey, whoever wants to make the rules, make the rules and we'll just go by.
Gary Witta
You said. You said Earth Tree would be the one that would upset the most people if it was.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Barrett Courtney
Because a lot of people are just fucking really upset about it. And you know, I made a point the other day talking about it, I think is. It's more so people are just upset because it's Elden Ring. Like, I do wonder last year if Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty got nominated for Game of the Year.
Gary Witta
That's another fantastic deal which I think.
Barrett Courtney
Would have gotten nominated for Game of the Year last year. Last year wasn't as fucking crazy of a year.
Blessing Adio Junior
Last year was like, this year Cyberpunk would have.
Gary Witta
Last year was stacked. This year is stacked as well.
Barrett Courtney
And here, like, the other thing is, like, I've seen this argument. I'm not gonna call out their name, but someone says it's built off of a Game of the Year, of course it will be good. It's cheating. How's that argument that sequels.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Barrett Courtney
Never ever be nominated for any awards.
Gary Witta
Because off the back of the first God of War.
Barrett Courtney
It was the same assets all reused.
Gary Witta
If they. If they had released God of War Ragnarok as a DLC that required the first game to play, but was the same game, would you view it differently?
Barrett Courtney
You're just upset about a skew. And like skew is the manner in.
Gary Witta
Which it has been released somehow invalidates it.
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean, you're right that, like, I think people are arguing around Skus. Right. People are arguing about. Around technicalities. Shadow the Air Tree could have dropped as a standalone thing and guess what? Nobody would be mad. But I guess where I'm coming down on it again to the point is.
Gary Witta
Like Tears of the Kingdom is another great example. Don't tell me that's not just more Breath of the Wild.
Blessing Adio Junior
But it is 100 hours. But like, I. Okay, where I come down on it is one. I can't care enough to argue with people about this. And then also I think. And this is where I think this might be a disagreeing argument. Right. With us. I think that when you're putting on a show, when you're putting on a thing, right. When you're making content, to some extent, you have to appeal to the people that are watching and consuming that thing. So if there's like half the people that are watching the game awards and they're mad that DLC is being nominated for Game of the Year, maybe you have to change it and be like, all right, cool. DLC doesn't get nominated. Right. Like, part of it is you have to appeal to your face, to your audience base, even if they're wrong to some extent, even if you disagree, if it makes everybody mad, guess what? Like, we had to change something. We can't just keep doing it this way.
Gary Witta
Let me. Let me go into Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic park mode, if I may. I'll tell you the problem with the system that you have here. It tried and all get in all awards have this. And I think games for some reason particularly like. It's particularly thorny. But film, television, you name it, all kind of awards can have this issue. It forces you to categorize games into boxes in an art form in which many games defy that kind of easy characterization. Right. And it's also true of film intelligence. Remember the Golden Globes when the Martian won for best musical or comedy?
Blessing Adio Junior
The.
Gary Witta
Is that. Yeah, it's weird.
Blessing Adio Junior
It happens all the time for best musical.
Gary Witta
Yeah. And that's a weird delineation as well. But like, you know, we are in this position now where like, again, we're arguing over the fact had Tears of the Kingdom been or God of War Ragnarok been released as is, but as DLC where you needed the original game to play, or if Erdtree had been released, released as Elden Ring 2 or Elden Ring 1.5 or whatever. It's a standalone release.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
That somehow means we have to view it differently. I don't understand how the manner of delivery, like if you fix our critical appraisal of it.
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean, you can look at me. You can look at me and present Miles, Spider Man Miles Morales and Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. And I would straight up tell you that Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is like a newer. Not newer is not the right term, but I guess like Shadow of the Air Tree feels more like a new substantial. It's a more substantial. Here's a content drop the Miles. And that's not me trying to take away from Miles or hit on Miles.
Barrett Courtney
But like great someone Miles is the best. Spider Man Miles is great.
Gary Witta
I agree that Miles Morales is the Best.
Blessing Adio Junior
But it's also like five hours to campaign versus shadow. The urge that I'm still working on.
Barrett Courtney
People are still like, you know, like, how do you tell someone, like, if Erdtree wins, how do you tell someone who wants to play the Game of the Year to play? You got to play three fourths of this other game to then play, like, Erdtree. And it's again, I go back to the sequel argument. If Ragnarok had won and someone wanted to play Ragnarok because it won Game of the Year, it's like, all right, well, you do have to go play God of War 2018 first to then play Ragnarok again. I, I just, I, I just disagree. I disagree.
Blessing Adio Junior
And again, I just don't think it matters enough for the Internet to get up in arms about it. Like, cool.
Gary Witta
Whether it's released as DLC or a sequel or a standalone thing, you should evaluate it on its merits the same way, right?
Blessing Adio Junior
I think so, yeah. That's how I feel, Gary. That's not how everybody feels.
Gary Witta
I mean, I would have avoided. I would have put DLC in its own category, I think. But again, this is why I don't want to run an awards show, because it's. It's hard, right, to make the. No matter what you, no matter what you do, when you put together an award show and collate and curate nominations and define categories, someone's going to be up. Someone's going to say, well, that's wrong. That's not the way you should do it. Right. No one's going to agree on this stuff.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. And I do want to acknowledge the argument from chat. And this is in response to Bear's thing. And Bear, I'll give you the chance. I'll give you the floor. They're saying, I want to state it.
Barrett Courtney
You don't have to play 2018 to play Ragnarok because they're two separate releases. If you're playing God of War regular.
Gary Witta
You probably play the original.
Barrett Courtney
Playing any other God of War games, you're a idiot.
Blessing Adio Junior
But it's not required. You know what I mean? It's not required.
Gary Witta
It's not. But it's like, you know, it is one of those things where I just.
Blessing Adio Junior
Want to say it because I know the people are going ape over it, and I just want to acknowledge it, like, really upset.
Gary Witta
Wouldn't you.
Barrett Courtney
You could off.
Gary Witta
You would. I think, I think you would agree that, like, okay, so you could play the Last of Us Part two. You can just jump in and play it, right. And Never have played the first one. But wouldn't you agree, like if someone asked me for my advice, should I play the first one? I would say absolutely yes. Because you'll get so much more out of the second one. Right?
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Like when, when the big thing that happens.
Blessing Adio Junior
I agree with that.
Gary Witta
In the first act of the Last of Us, Part two happens. The reason why it carries so much weight is because you're bringing all of the first game with you. Right. And the feelings you develop for that character.
Blessing Adio Junior
But I think people feel a way about like, okay, but it's not like, it's not like Last of Part two won't boot up unless you beat in part one.
Gary Witta
To me, that's a technicality. That's a technicality though. That doesn't I carry much weight with me.
Blessing Adio Junior
Gary, don't let the audience know I agree with you. I. I agree with you. But I, I just want to make them understand that I understand the argument that they're making.
Gary Witta
Ok.
Blessing Adio Junior
I don't agree fully with it. I understand where you're coming from.
Gary Witta
I'm not taking a position because I agree it is. Why am I doing trump hands? What the fuck is that?
Blessing Adio Junior
I don't know. Right.
Gary Witta
I'm just admitting that this is a thorny. It's. It's tough to categorize.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yes, this shit is hard. Like it's everything. It's something to get to the bottom too. Yeah, let's get to the bottom of more black myth discussion with story number two. But before we get there, I want to tell you about patreon.com kind of funny and YouTube.com kind of funny games where you can go and get the Kind of Funny membership which allows you to get shows ad free. And speaking of ads, let us tell you about our sponsors.

The year is 2024. Lasers are a commonly used technology. Snakes have been replaced by small robots and nobody noticed. The government tells us we must choose between resolution, frame rate and quality. We we will not be lied to. For the first time in this long bloody war, the full power of the visual triangle is ours. On sale now@kindofunny.com store and we're back with story number two. Black Myth Wukong Dev Game Science Teases Surprises for Later this Year this is Wesley Yimpool at ign. The developer of Black Wukong has teased some surprises for later this year, accepting the Game of the Year award via video message at the Golden Joysticks Game Science co founder Fang Ji encouraged people to have yet encouraged people who have yet to buy the smash hit action game to do so now. He then added the tease quote of course you might have already completed our game. That's perfectly fine too. Keep following us and there might just be some surprises waiting for you later this year. End quote. What are these mystery surprises? Currently, speculation points to an announcement either around DLC or an Xbox release. That's cool.
Gary Witta
The DLC sounds. I mean obviously Black Myth has been so tremendously successful.
Blessing Adio Junior
Right.
Gary Witta
From a sales and a critical standpoint.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
That I think an erdtree level DLC feels nailed on. And a sequel as well. Right. These, we aren't going to be surprised.
Blessing Adio Junior
When these are announced in erdtree level DLC I don't expect because like I think that'll take. That'll take years. That'll take multiple years. The fact that he's teasing this before the end of the year or later.
Gary Witta
This year, maybe something smaller.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think it's gonna be something small.
Gary Witta
Okay.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think maybe it's like a boss Rush mode or maybe it is like one new area or something or one new chapter. And hopefully like they've already been working on it. So they like if you're telling. If you told me that this is something they began development on after release, I'd be like, oh, this could be the smallest thing. And what I'm out just a few months ago.
Gary Witta
And what are the issues surrounding an Xbox release? Is it something that Sony has locked down or.
Blessing Adio Junior
Gary, open up another can of worms. Because this is another one that had controversy to it where I don't think people realize that this was a PS5 console exclusive until very close to the launch because I believe it was announced as coming to Xbox. But then the Xbox version didn't come and then people were.
Gary Witta
Sony stepped in and said like money truck.
Blessing Adio Junior
There were rumors that Sony did, but.
Barrett Courtney
I don't theories about that.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think that's a tinfoil hat thing. I think maybe it just wasn't ready for Xbox just as far as like having a right SKU or like maybe it was Xbox Series S or something like that. Right. Like, I think it's one of those scenarios where they just couldn't get it running on Xbox yet and so they wanted to wait for it. I assume maybe that's what they're talking about here. Unless there is a tinfoil hat Sony thing, then we might see it.
Gary Witta
I mean, I mean Sony are very protective with their exclusives. Much Xbox seems to be adopting a very kumbaya like well, you know, we're not even ruling out, you know, Halo and Forza on PlayStation like and it's all up for grabs and they are bringing some of their big games that they Own and could make exclusive if they want to to PlayStation.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, right.
Gary Witta
But PlayStation seemed to be much more like, no, these are my toys and no one else gets to play with.
Blessing Adio Junior
I will say.
Gary Witta
And that's again, that's a valid business strategy as well.
Blessing Adio Junior
This might be something worth Googling, because I swear there was like a quote from Xbox that was like, hey, like, what's up with Black Myth Wukong? And they. Their comment was, hey, we can't comment on other deals that people have made.
Gary Witta
Right?
Blessing Adio Junior
It was like there was something weird like that that came up technical or something else.
Gary Witta
It pretty much at parody, right? A series X and maybe it's a series S. Okay.
Barrett Courtney
This was Forbes, so I assume this was Jason Schreier. In a statement given to me by a Microso representative, the company has confirmed that the delay of Black Myth Wukong is not due to technical issues with Xbox platforms and instead, similar to its original statement, points to outside platform slash developer deals.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Yeah. So I do think you can make it run on the series X, right? There isn't. There isn't anything.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think worst case, series S is the.
Gary Witta
Well, that again, that's the. That's the thing. And they had the whole Baldur's Gate issue, right?
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, yeah. I was gonna say worst case scenario, series S might be the thing holding them back. And Xbox wants things to be parody between S and X. And like, they're not gonna ever let you just release the game on X and not release it on S. I.
Gary Witta
Think this came up on.
Barrett Courtney
Sorry, this was Paul Tassie, not us.
Gary Witta
I think this came up with Baldur's Gate as well, when this was an issue. And I asked the same question at the time. Do you think if. If the Black Myth developers went to Xbox and said, look, we've got it running great on the series X, but like, we've tried it every which way. It is just not going to work on series S. So you can have it, but it's going to have to be the first game you've ever released where it says like, X only. No, you think they would rather not have Black Myth Wukong on their platform if it meant drawing that line in the sand.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think they would. I think Phil or whoever high up there would sit down with game science and they would go, what is. What are the features that we need to take out to make this work on S? Right. I think you get like a pared down version because that's what happened with Baldur's Gate 3.
Gary Witta
But that's not A great look either. Is it like, one of the. One of the nice things about the S is because I watch all these digital foundry breakdowns and they're really interesting. Is like the S usually isn't that big a step down. Like, it's a step down, but it's not like, oh, it's not like the Switch version of Mortal Kombat or something. It's like, this is just shit. Like they generally not as good, but they're still viable.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
And I just wonder if there's like, it's not a good look for the series S if a game would have come out. And it's like, they shouldn't have released this.
Barrett Courtney
I mean, Boulder Skate 3. Like, the big thing is that split screen, right?
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Barrett Courtney
They had to, like, drop some things.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, they had to drop.
Barrett Courtney
And so they got to kind of break the Not. I don't know, bend the rule a little bit for Baldur's Gate. Because they, like, kind of realize how big.
Gary Witta
That's what I'm saying. When it's. When it's a game that big. And you can argue that Black Myth is.
Barrett Courtney
I don't know if publishers is like, on the scale of Xbox and PlayStation, knew how big Black Myth was going.
Blessing Adio Junior
To be, though it's legitimately the same exact scenario, Baldur's Gate. So I think right now, if. If it was a series S issue, which now, like, after being reminded of the. Like the Forbes article, but I think there are even other articles that are pointing to the same thing. I'm pretty sure there was an exact quote from somebody at Xbox that was like, hey, we can't comment on, like, other deals. What's your.
Gary Witta
What's your gut right now? Black Myth on Xbox.
Blessing Adio Junior
It'll come.
Gary Witta
Yeah, I think so.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think in the next 12 months, it'll come to Xbox. And I think it'll be fine. I don't think the series. I think the series S version is going to come out and probably just be fine.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
Like, it'll be.
Gary Witta
It's just taking them longer to figure it out. Yeah. Because again, you're right. I think. I think what Phil would actually say is, yeah, like, I will. I will send all of my top people to China to work with you. We will make this work.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Yeah, I think.
Blessing Adio Junior
For sure.
Gary Witta
But we're not going to draw that line. Series X, only 1000. Okay, got it.
Blessing Adio Junior
Story number three, Imperial. A new sci fi action RPG has been announced for PC, PS5 and Xbox. Series X. This is Ryan McCaffrey at IGN developer Silent Games and publisher Secret Mode have announced Imperial, new sci fi action RPG due out in 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Bear. I put a video in here. We can play it in the background. I was going to live react, but we're running it late in the show and so we can just watch it as I.
Gary Witta
How'd that happen? Running late.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, me and Gary running late on a show. What a fun.
Gary Witta
What are we looking at here?
Blessing Adio Junior
The game. It's a new game that was newly announced called Imperial. It promises intense combat in pursuit of a monolith left behind by a lost civilization. Character customization, unlockable abilities and lots of loot await. So this is another stellar Blade, Devil.
Gary Witta
May Cry Blackness kind of vibe.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'll probably compare. I mean, this is also my first time watching the full trailer. It has way more of a stylized look to it and it looks a bit quicker. So I think I. I would assume maybe it's a little bit more Devil May Cry ish. But they say action rpg.
Gary Witta
You know what? I'm trying to derail us again. You know what's really good? Because I was watching a YouTube review of it last night.
Blessing Adio Junior
What's that? East 10 Nordics have no idea what that is. So.
Gary Witta
You know the Y's series of games? Ys.
Blessing Adio Junior
Ys. Yes.
Gary Witta
Yeah. So I wasn't even looking at it closely because I thought, well, I don't know anything about that series. But it turns out it's like Final Fantasy. Each game is just its own thing. And you don't need to bring over any of the lore from the previous ones because they kind of reboot everything. And I was watching the combat. It actually looks really fucking good. I might. I might have to play East 10 Nordic. Nordics.
Blessing Adio Junior
Bears. That was playing right now. Yeah, East 10 Nordics.
Gary Witta
I didn't know. I didn't even know. I thought it was like a weird, like, rpg. But it's got like. It's got like Assassin's Creed, Black Flag style, pirate ship battles. It's got, you know, there's. That ship is like your base and it's got really cool. So the two characters are kind of like magically kind of chained together. They can't leave each other, but you can like team up and fight together. Like you're controlling both characters. Characters at the same time and they can do all kind of cool. Just like the. I'm a big sucker for like the pyrotechnics of those kind of battles where it's like all kinds of like, weird like, you know, like in metaphor or whatever. Like all kinds of weird shits popping off when you're doing your combos and stuff. And this game feels like it has that vibe to it.
Blessing Adio Junior
So many. Chad said. But you need to play the first nine E's games.
Gary Witta
Yeah, but that's the thing. That's exactly why I wasn't looking at it. But this review made a point saying if you don't. If you. If you're worried about this because, like, oh, he's 10. I haven't played the other nine. You don't have to. It doesn't matter.
Blessing Adio Junior
I think they're referencing just the conversation we're having earlier. God of war, Ragnarok. But yeah, it looks cool.
Gary Witta
Yeah, it looks really fun.
Blessing Adio Junior
Gary. Y's and Imperial could be very big games to come out. They could be. They could be.
Gary Witta
I appreciate you slow rolling this.
Blessing Adio Junior
They could be gigantic. You know, they could be humongous. Another word for big. They could be wumbo. But if I want something smaller. Thank you, Barrett. Thank you. If I wanted something smaller, say the tiniest news I needed to know about, where would I go?
Gary Witta
You'd go to our last story, the WE News Channel, where we cover all the small news items you need to know about.
Blessing Adio Junior
Story number four, slash five.
Gary Witta
I find this music offensive.
Blessing Adio Junior
I love this music, though. I love it. Is this the fact?
Barrett Courtney
Shout out to Carter Harrell.
Blessing Adio Junior
Who?
Gary Witta
Listen, Carter, you did all of our.
Barrett Courtney
In review music.
Gary Witta
You did. You know, you understood the assignment. You did what you were supposed to do. You just missed the fucking Wii shop music.
Blessing Adio Junior
You just missed the.
Gary Witta
And I understand why everyone's afraid of Nintendo right now. I get it. We're all terrified of Nintendo.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Like, you look at Nintendo the wrong way, they'll sue you into oblivion. Oh, yeah, like, I have an alarm. Alarm clock. I didn't. I didn't get up within the first couple of minutes, my alarm going. I was a. Am I going to get like a legal threat from Nintendo to get on your door? Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
Serving up papers. The.
Barrett Courtney
The alarmo grows hands and starts choking you.
Gary Witta
Two Japanese guys in suits show up at your door. We would like to sue you.
Blessing Adio Junior
Could you imagine, like a Nintendo alarm clock? It starts off very soothing. You know, there's playing Mario music. And then five minutes in, you don't wait up, motherfucker. Start fucking beating your ass. Story number four, which was going to be big news. I'm now demoting it to Wii News. Koei Tecmo plans to go from 2500 to 5000 employees and lean further into AAA games. Lowering expectations of the mobile market. That was from Amber V Automaton.
Gary Witta
When I hear I think of is like tech mobile.
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean yeah. Most recently they did Rise of the Ronin. They've done like the like the Neo games. What are some like dynasty warriors I believe is Koei Tecmo. Okay. I feel like we don't pay attention to them as much. Chat throw out some other like big Koei Tecmo games.
Gary Witta
I only know Tecmo is like a legacy name from back in the day.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah but like they combined with Koei. Right.
Gary Witta
Ninja Gaiden. Okay.
Barrett Courtney
That's legit Neo.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. I mentioned Neil. Yeah. Okay. Stranger Paradise. Like they do a lot of those action games. So I'm trying get her alive. They're alive. Yeah, that's good. That's good. Tecmo Bolshes Casino as well. More Wii news for you.
Gary Witta
Oh, Fire Emblem. That's a big one too.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, they must have done. Yeah. Code development or maybe just they developed the game for Nintendo. That's neat. A new Fire type event is taking place in Pokemon. TCG Pocket Stalker 2 Heart of Chernobyl. Sales top 1 million.
Gary Witta
Ooh, should I play that? Oh, I hear it's very janky. Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
That's the thing is if you're down.
Gary Witta
Should I wait for a couple of patches maybe? Yeah, I think so.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Barrett Courtney
The boys were playing. We had an Nvidia sponsored stream yesterday playing soccer 2 with all the DLSS and all that stuff. And apparently the day one patch for PC seems to be pretty solid so far. So they're playing it and having a good time with performance. Maybe Nick a less good time because the game is very difficult.
Gary Witta
You know what else I think got short shrift at the game? Maybe because it came because they have that weird. You know they have that weird cutoff.
Blessing Adio Junior
Right.
Gary Witta
So like Indiana Jones is going to come out this year and might be sounds like it might be very good. But it's not nominated because it came out. It's not the calendar year. It's like October to October or whatever it is that they do so they can do their show over the holidays. You know I tell who else got maybe next year but I don't think so because there's a weird bias against this genre. Have you seen some of the videos of Flight Simulator 2024? That game is fucking off the hook. Insane.
Blessing Adio Junior
Is it? Yeah. Okay. I didn't even know that was out.
Gary Witta
Like it's out with VR support and they do all this niche. It's like, probably the most amazing looking. What's the game I've ever seen in my fucking life. He's absolutely bananas.
Blessing Adio Junior
This is very. This is very important. Flight Simulator 2024, open critic.
Gary Witta
Now I have a 4090 at home with a super ultra wide display and a VR headset. Like, I feel like I have to play this fucking game because it looks incredible.
Blessing Adio Junior
It has a 92 on open critic, which honestly, there was a. Isn't enough for me.
Gary Witta
There was a video of like somebody flying over Las Vegas at night and they flew over the sphere, and it was a. It was the sphere and it was running all the animations at the sphere. Yeah, it was nuts.
Blessing Adio Junior
Super cool. Here's the thing. This was my first pick on my fantasy criticism, and I needed this to do like, maybe like 95 or something. I needed it to do like an impossible task here.
Barrett Courtney
Oh, no. Plus, you were not gonna win this year. I'm sorry.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm sorry. Wait, what's gonna be above me?
Barrett Courtney
I think.
Gary Witta
Yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
At least I'm not last place that spots reserved for who? Roger.
Barrett Courtney
Oh, yeah, Roger's default. Roger's the only person in our Fantasy critic who is not hitting triple digits.
Blessing Adio Junior
If I'm top. How many people are in our Fantasy Critic? Eight, Seven. If I'm top four, I'm half happy. You're top four. Okay, I'll take that.
Barrett Courtney
You're top four right now.
Gary Witta
Oh, you're usually pretty good at that, aren't you?
Blessing Adio Junior
You do? Yeah. In the last couple years, I like, I've been falling off a little bit. It's because I underrated Janet Garcia. Janet Garcia is very talented.
Gary Witta
She's a dog.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. And so, like, she came through and has won recently and then was. Who won last year? Was that Janet?
Gary Witta
I appreciate you leaving me out this year.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, because Greg cheated. That's the other thing is that greg cheats.
Gary Witta
Oh, 100. Remember when he did those shady Part of him cheating? Remember when he did those shady backdoor deals with me?
Blessing Adio Junior
Yes. That's how. That's how we won last year.
Gary Witta
Yeah. That was disgraceful.
Blessing Adio Junior
I can't say no to my boss, Barrett. You know how it works. You know, I say no to Greg and then he puts me in the doghouse.
Gary Witta
You know what you should do to get back at him?
Blessing Adio Junior
What's that?
Gary Witta
You should go unbox that PlayStation. 30th anniversary that's sitting out there, dude.
Blessing Adio Junior
Actually, no, I.
Gary Witta
So I said so before the show, we were talking about the PlayStation and.
Blessing Adio Junior
I said, if you did, they said PlayStation, 30th anniversary. That embargo. What?
Barrett Courtney
I don't know.
Blessing Adio Junior
I just made a guess.
Gary Witta
Gary, how can it be? How can it be? Well, no, see, no, I'm going to tell you what happened. So I said, do you guys have a 30th anniversary yet? And they said, well, we think it might be that. They're out over there, and there's a big box sitting next to Greg's desk. He's not here today. And it's like, how the fuck have you not opened that yet? Like, Greg's not here.
Blessing Adio Junior
Well, it just got here this morning. Just. Guy knocked very loudly.
Barrett Courtney
Plus, couldn't hear him.
Blessing Adio Junior
I was listening to the news.
Gary Witta
I think we should open it up after the show.
Blessing Adio Junior
We got to finish the show so I can go back and listen to the news.
Gary Witta
I bet you we could unbox it, get it out, play with it, and put everything back the way it was. And he would never even know. Like, put all the twist ties back on and everything.
Blessing Adio Junior
Won't listen to this episode. Well, Greg also doesn't give a fuck about boxes. Like, he's not gonna.
Gary Witta
Doesn't he?
Blessing Adio Junior
No. Let's fucking do it.
Gary Witta
Oh.
Blessing Adio Junior
You know, that seems like we're close.
Gary Witta
We should unbox it. I'm gonna post some pictures with it. I wish you were here, Greg.
Blessing Adio Junior
I can't in good conscience open up another man's 30th anniversary place.
Gary Witta
You might not.
Blessing Adio Junior
You might not be, at this point.
Barrett Courtney
Not. Crunchyroll. We do not, as a company open.
Gary Witta
He can't.
Blessing Adio Junior
Employees. I'll take.
Gary Witta
I'll take the four. Just tell him Gary went rogue. We couldn't control him.
Blessing Adio Junior
We opened your mail, your very important mail for this very. This very precious pizza piece of merchandise that you've been waiting for. It's also illegal. Yeah.
Gary Witta
Was it. What? Was it sent by the US Mail?
Blessing Adio Junior
I don't know, actually.
Gary Witta
Because if it was sent by the U.S. mail, it is illegal.
Blessing Adio Junior
What about FedEx?
Gary Witta
No, I don't think so.
Blessing Adio Junior
Can we open up? We can open other people's FedEx. That doesn't sound legal. That.
Barrett Courtney
Yeah, that doesn't sound right.
Blessing Adio Junior
There's no way you can do that.
Gary Witta
I open my wife's packages all the time. She gives me shit for it, though, so.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, but she's not going to sue you. I feel like if she wanted.
Gary Witta
I'm not going to go to jail over it.
Blessing Adio Junior
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heartache Chernobyl. Like I mentioned, sales top 1 million from Games Industry Biz Bay 9. Amco Online is to be dissolved and merged with his parent company. In a brief press statement, Bay9amco called it an absorption type merger.
Gary Witta
Where is Greg?
Blessing Adio Junior
He. I don't know.
Gary Witta
You know how he always calls me off? You know how he always calls me live on the show.
Blessing Adio Junior
Leave the man alone.
Gary Witta
Hold on. No, no, no, no, no, no. He does it to me all the fucking time.
Blessing Adio Junior
Absorption. Absorption type merger is giving me boo from Dragon Ball Z. Anybody?
Gary Witta
No, he's fucking screened me. He screened me.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yo, after. One ring is insane. One ring. One ring. That means he looked at it.
Gary Witta
He looked at it and went.
Blessing Adio Junior
Didn't have to think about it. Like, immediate reflex to.
Gary Witta
He's texting me. He's texting me.
Blessing Adio Junior
Busy. I don't know.
Gary Witta
Oh, he says he's on it. He says he's on a plane. Okay. Okay. Can we.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, he's.
Gary Witta
Yeah, unbox.
Blessing Adio Junior
He's out.
Gary Witta
Okay. Can we unbox?
Blessing Adio Junior
The answer's gonna be no.
Gary Witta
You're.
Blessing Adio Junior
There's no way the answer is gonna be yes.
Gary Witta
Anniversary PlayStation.
Blessing Adio Junior
Anyway, all that business is gonna be shut down.
Barrett Courtney
We have a guest for Gamescast.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, you're right. We do have a guest for Gamescast. But yeah, the business is going to be shut down like Bandai Namco online and then transferred over to Big ol Bandai Namco from VGC. Sega has announced that a remaster of Virtua Fighter 5 is coming to Steam. Oh, he says yes, exclamation point.
Gary Witta
Don't ask, you don't get.
Blessing Adio Junior
Barrett, I guess. Bring the box. No, it's. Listen, it's Greg. He knows what time it is.
Gary Witta
I've got the dog.
Blessing Adio Junior
He knows what time it is.
Gary Witta
Let's get it on here.
Blessing Adio Junior
Unboxing you and Barrett as the director. I'll let you make the call.
Gary Witta
Barrett's worried that he likes.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm giving you the director of the show.
Gary Witta
He's the ranking officer on the scene.
Blessing Adio Junior
He's worried that he's going to take the fall for this in the fucking.
Barrett Courtney
Building for the next week.
Blessing Adio Junior
That is true. Barrett is stressed behind. Barrett is stressed.
Barrett Courtney
We have a guest for games cast.
Blessing Adio Junior
We're not going to do it now.
Barrett Courtney
Two other shows to direct today and a stream to help.
Gary Witta
You love it, Barrett. You love it when it goes off the rails.
Blessing Adio Junior
Exhausted. Kevin's been gone and Barrett's been dying. Yeah. So SEGA announced the remaster of virtua fighter 5 is called virtua fighter 5 revo revo. And it's set to release this winter. Donkey Kong Land is now available on Nintendo Switch Online in Games has announced that they've officially acquired the publishing rights to Shenmue 3. Wuthering Waves PS5 version launches January 2, 2025. It's already on mobile and PC. GameSpot Giant Bomb will host an official two hour long game awards pre show. The two hour pre show will feature exclusive content, talent interviews, a special guest appearance to help the appearances to kick off the gaming industry's biggest night of the year. Helldivers 2 surpasses 15 million players and Sea of Stars surpasses 6 million players. And that is it for WE News. Let me take a peek into what we call super chats.
Gary Witta
Oh yeah, you got to read those out, don't you?
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, yeah, Portland. Kevin says Gary's looking good. Have you lost weight?
Gary Witta
Yeah, I lost about 35 pounds. Thank you for noticing.
Blessing Adio Junior
Bam writes in and says, I think that's why sequels have recaps. Now listen, if you are going to give us money to get into arguments about this, I'll take it. Thank you so much, Bam. All right, we got your ass. Yeah, Bam also gives us money to say, I played so many games out of order in the PS three days.
Gary Witta
Let's go unbox this PlayStation. What are we waiting for? Like he said. Yes.
Blessing Adio Junior
Like we've been given schedule.
Gary Witta
We have a make that content. Look, he's telling you what to do. You've been told to do it.
Blessing Adio Junior
Multiple shows to run. Make today's Greg Way. The unboxing featuring Gary. Actually, that's a pretty good idea. Although who's doing the Greg Way today? Is that Greg? Still, Mike is doing the Greg Way. This is what we're going to do.
Gary Witta
Look, I've got nothing better to do. I'll stick around and help you.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, this is what we're going to do. We're going to have you do the Greg Way with Mike. You two are going to unbox. All right? So go check that out and then see. Let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see. We'll do one more super chat. I'm trying to bring in one more super chat here. Dear 6. It writes in and says without trying to be cynical, is the rule change due to Shadow of the Erdtree's inherent quality or Jeff wanting the clicks and engagement from that nom? Here's the thing, Dear Sixlet, I don't think. I don't believe the rule ever changed. Changed. I think there was just an FAQ update that just reinforced it because they knew that Shadow of The urchin was going to get nominated because they had the nominations in. I don't think there was ever a rule change. People think there's a real change. There was not a rule change. Okay, that's it for the super chats. Now it's time for kind of funny dot com. You're wrong. Were you right in. Let us know what we got wrong as we got it wrong so we can correct it. For those watching later on YouTube and listening later on podcast services around the globe. This isn't a year wrong. This is a lot more context.
Gary Witta
You're wrong. I thought we retired that.
Blessing Adio Junior
No, we still do. You're wrong. I fight for you wrong.
Gary Witta
Because some Barrett I knew you.
Blessing Adio Junior
We could have saved this for the thing. It would have been. It would have gotten Patreon money.
Gary Witta
This. This got. This has got to be the PlayStation, right? It has to be.
Blessing Adio Junior
What's funny is that, yeah, we have no confirmation this is actually the PlayStation.
Gary Witta
That's the thing. He's gonna end up being like, we.
Blessing Adio Junior
Can open the fridge or something.
Gary Witta
It could be a crash Bandicoot mini fridge or some bullshit that we don't want.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. Bears pointing out that the tape does have PlayStation icons on it.
Gary Witta
It's 100% the PlayStation 30.
Barrett Courtney
Like, you know what?
Gary Witta
You know what? I bet you was in here. I bet you this is the full Monty. I bet there's a portal in there. A dual sense edge. All of the PlayStation 30 goodies are in here.
Blessing Adio Junior
Do you want to grab like, a box cutter?
Gary Witta
No, he's just going to take off the thing.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, you're right. Yeah. This. You're wrong. I'm not doing because it's less so. You're wrong. More so. Just more context. Next, I would bust out my keys. Make sure don't show the keys on the thing because people can copy them based on video. I've learned.
Gary Witta
Scan your keys.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. And also looks like we don't even need it.
Gary Witta
I got it. Oh, anything can happen.
Blessing Adio Junior
Anything can happen on. Kind of funny is what Gary's saying right now. Of course, audio listeners, I care about you, but we're. We're unboxing this on video. Audio listeners. And so I'm just gonna. Yeah, I'm just gonna narrate it as it's happening. Gary is like a kid at Toys R Us right now. Rip out.
Gary Witta
Break this one off.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm moving all my stuff inside a box. Man, this really is Christmas. This is the Friday before Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for this whole company. Right now, because I got myself an Apple tv.
Gary Witta
Whoa. All right, now we've got a very nice.
Blessing Adio Junior
Gary's just taking out the PS5 Pro.
Gary Witta
Sorry, sorry.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, look at that. Inside of the box right there.
Gary Witta
Oh, look. Oh, that's good.
Blessing Adio Junior
That's good.
Gary Witta
Oh, my goodness. So I don't. I don't. At this point, I don't want to. Here's what I need to know. Turn this whole thing upside down and lift this up.
Blessing Adio Junior
All right? Gary's gonna attempt to turn over the box to make sure we can get the. What's in the box? What's in the box, Barry? Winner has the upper hand. All right. For audio listeners, let me tell you, shit's looking good. Yeah. He's slowly undressing the box for you.
Gary Witta
Wait until we find out there's a thing.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, man.
Gary Witta
Seriously embargoed.
Blessing Adio Junior
I mean, it's out, and so there's no way. Is this. There's no way that this is actually.
Barrett Courtney
If Greg says it's okay, it's on.
Gary Witta
Greg, is this the retail box, do you think? Is this what you.
Blessing Adio Junior
This. I imagine so.
Gary Witta
I think it is, because they went all out on this thing, didn't they? Holy.
Blessing Adio Junior
Whoa. Yo, right now the PS5 Pro is out for everybody to see. And let me tell you, this thing is hot, and it is The Pro. This 30th anniversary. PS5 Pro is hot.
Gary Witta
Beautiful blessing.
Blessing Adio Junior
Look at this. Now, is. Is this one of those ones? Does it have, like, the number on it? Because don't they count all of them?
Gary Witta
Oh, yeah.
Blessing Adio Junior
I wonder if it has it.
Gary Witta
Yes. Hold on. 30 says 30th anniversary on that side. It's on the fin, right? The. The number.
Blessing Adio Junior
Chad, do these have. Have those. I want to know what number we are.
Gary Witta
It just says 30th anniversary. I don't see, like, what the. Run the model.
Barrett Courtney
Yeah, no, I. I'll.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'll hold it up for you, Mike. What's up? How's it going? To see it? Yeah, yeah, Mike's here.
Mike Howard
The box is really cool.
Blessing Adio Junior
Beauty.
Gary Witta
The box is really nice. Nice. Yeah. So let's see. Let me.
Blessing Adio Junior
It's on the ridge. Somebody says something else.
Gary Witta
I feel like there's more in.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. What would this be? Was that the portal? That must be, like, the accessories.
Gary Witta
Let's see.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, snap.
Gary Witta
Let's see.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, we got to turn that. Hold on. Let me get this out the way. This is. Can you put this somewhere?
Gary Witta
What is this? Figure out what that is. Oh, yeah, look. I mean, actually, this is a dual sense Edge. They've included all of it. Everything's in here.
Blessing Adio Junior
Here, hold on, hold on. This is like a poster. I think this is.
Gary Witta
Oh. So I. We talked about how we just got one of these, right. But we had to buy.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, yeah.
Barrett Courtney
Mine comes Saturday.
Gary Witta
Mine comes Monday. It's a. Look at that. I'm not Even like a PlayStation historian type guy, but, like, that's a. That's a beautiful. What.
Barrett Courtney
And I just. What I really need and what they got me with is they brought back the original colors for the symbols.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
And this. This is not just the case, I can tell.
Blessing Adio Junior
No, that's going to be the edge. That's the edge.
Gary Witta
Oh, my God.
Blessing Adio Junior
I know what. I know what the packaging for the edge looks like.
Gary Witta
Holy.
Blessing Adio Junior
This is hot.
Gary Witta
This is hot as. I've got a fucking chubby right now like that. Barrett, I brought back the chubby joke.
Blessing Adio Junior
He brought. Listen, I'm taking all this stuff off. Timing, Barrett. That's a comedic timing right there. Yeah, that's the edge.
Gary Witta
Oh, look at this. Look at the shininess.
Blessing Adio Junior
I'm like, scared Gary W. Is going to go home with all this.
Gary Witta
Try and. Try and stop me. That's beautiful. And very much like the. Very similar to the Xbox elite controller. Right? You get your paddles and.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, all that stuff there. Gary, have you used the edge?
Gary Witta
No, I haven't.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, dude. Using. I hope the battery life is. Go grab an edge and use the edge with your chubby.
Gary Witta
These are going to be just cables, I have a feeling. What else is in here? Is there a portal in here? I don't think there is.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, is there not? Does it not come with the portal?
Gary Witta
That's the. For the disc drive. If you want to add on the disc drive. That's the vertical stand. Right. That's going to be just cables or whatever. It's in here. Oh, no. These are all your stickers, and I love that stuff. So.
Blessing Adio Junior
So do we have all the major stuff, then?
Gary Witta
This is like an influencer bundle, Right. Because it includes a controller and an edge, but you're not the only thing.
Blessing Adio Junior
You know, I think I'm pretty sure.
Barrett Courtney
The bundle came with both as well.
Gary Witta
You buy the Pro 30th, you get the jaws, you get the edges.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah.
Gary Witta
Is that why it was like a thousand dollars or something?
Barrett Courtney
I think so.
Gary Witta
That makes more sense. Oh, and because I have one of these at home, just the regular type. This is the. The stand.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, your controller scan stand.
Barrett Courtney
Oh, yeah. Those come in clutch, and then you.
Gary Witta
Put these here and they charge look at that. Beautiful. Beautiful.
Blessing Adio Junior
This is so good.
Gary Witta
The only thing that's not in here is the portal, which is also very nice, but.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, but also that would jack up the price, like, another few hundred bucks. Yeah, we don't need all that.
Gary Witta
But I just didn't know if this was like a special influencer box that went. This is actually what you get when you buy it retail.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yep.
Gary Witta
You get. You get the edge and a regular controller.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yep.
Gary Witta
Oh, you get a poster.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, that's a poster right there.
Gary Witta
Oh, that was actually one. I'm glad somebody mentioned the cables, because that is actually something I wanted to look at.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, look at that. Yeah, show that to Gary.
Gary Witta
Oh, that's beautiful.
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah. And you have the PlayStation logo. That's built by all the different accessories. The different PlayStation accessories from throughout the year.
Gary Witta
This is something that I really. Wait, where is it? Okay, that's hdmi. Yeah. Get that power supply. That's for the charger stand.
Blessing Adio Junior
Gary legitimately is like a kid in the. A toy. Toy store.
Gary Witta
Didn't. Isn't it supposed to come with something? When it plugs into the front, it looks like the old controller plug, like the old PlayStation.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, yeah, the USB cable. It's got to be in here. It's got to be in here somewhere.
Gary Witta
These are just stickers.
Blessing Adio Junior
Is it one of these?
Gary Witta
That's. That's the horizontal stand.
Blessing Adio Junior
It's definitely like one of the cable things I think he put aside.
Gary Witta
This just looks like mat. This is manuals.
Blessing Adio Junior
No, I don't think.
Gary Witta
I don't think it's in here.
Blessing Adio Junior
Oh, wait, no, right here, right here. Oh, yeah, there it is.
Gary Witta
Reopen this.
Barrett Courtney
Oh, yeah, it's just like a little attachment you put on.
Gary Witta
Just. Is it. Are you sure this is it?
Blessing Adio Junior
Yeah, because I think it'll. Oh, yeah, yeah. So you'll plug through there.
Gary Witta
Oh, that's so fun. You just run it through there and there's a little dongle that makes it look an old school. Wow.
Blessing Adio Junior
There you have it.
Gary Witta
All right, so who's gonna help me get this all into my car?
Blessing Adio Junior
Mike will do that. I'll help you out. Yeah. Michael. Help you out. Ladies and gentlemen, that brings us to the end of this episode of Kind of Funny Games Daily. A fun one. Gary, thanks so much for joining me on this episode.
Gary Witta

Kinda Funny Games Daily: Video Games News Podcast
Episode: Black Myth: Wukong is 2024’s First Game of the Year
Release Date: November 22, 2024
Hosts: Blessing Adeoye Jr., Gary Witta, Barrett Courtney
The episode kicks off with Blessing Adeoye Jr. introducing the day's main topics: the Golden Joysticks Award where Black Myth: Wukong has been declared Game of the Year, upcoming surprises for the game, and the announcement of a new action RPG titled Imperial.
Blessing (00:00):
"Today's stories include the Golden Joysticks Award, Black Game of the Year. Black Myth Wukong is getting surprises later this year, and a cool new action RPG just got announced."
Blessing receives an Apple TV from Gary, sparking a conversation about digital devices and retro gaming emulation. This segment highlights their camaraderie and enthusiasm for gaming technology.
Blessing (02:12):
"Oh, man. So Gary got me an Apple TV. Holy shit. Look. Look at this."
Gary (02:21):
"It's by far, I think, the best box that you can plug into your TV for, you know, Netflix and whatnot."
Blessing expresses excitement over the enhanced functionality compared to her current Amazon Fire Stick, appreciating the Apple TV's superior connectivity and gaming capabilities.
The hosts delve into the notable achievement of Black Myth: Wukong, developed by Game Science, securing the Game of the Year title at the UK's Golden Joystick Awards. They discuss the game's competition, including Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Helldivers 2, all of which took home multiple trophies.
Blessing (01:00):
"I'm trying to get Widow back."
— Light-hearted banter before transitioning to main topics.
Gary (20:03):
"Too many good games. Something. You know, it's one of those things that like, well, that shouldn't have been nominated."
Blessing (21:27):
"By fans. Yes."
— Emphasizing that the Golden Joysticks are predominantly fan-voted.
The discussion highlights how Black Myth: Wukong's strong sales, especially in the Chinese market, and its visually stunning action gameplay contributed to its win, despite not being the top choice among some critics.
The conversation shifts to the differences between the Golden Joysticks (fan-voted) and the Game Awards (industry and fan-voted with a 10% weight). They debate the fairness of Black Myth: Wukong's win, considering the diverse voting demographics and the influence of a dedicated fanbase.
Gary (21:34):
"It doesn't offend me because I'm in the one. I'm a member of the game."
Blessing (22:00):
"I think it's good. I don't think it's good enough for a game of the year in the year that we've had."
Barrett (21:04):
"And then the Game Awards is different and I know a lot of people don't really know how that all works."
This segment underscores the complexity of award voting and how fan enthusiasm can sway outcomes, sometimes overshadowing critical assessments.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to debating whether Black Myth: Wukong deserves the Game of the Year title based on quality or if its popularity influenced the decision. They compare it to other acclaimed titles like Elden Ring and discuss the subjective nature of such awards.
Blessing (25:05):
"I don't think it's one of the best action games I've ever played."
Gary (26:09):
"You can argue that Black Myth is a game that presents really well, gorgeous cutscenes, gorgeous visuals."
Blessing (35:02):
"I'm answering to the fact that is it the best game of the year? And I'll say confidently no right."
The hosts express that while Black Myth: Wukong is a commendable game with impressive features, it may not universally meet the highest standards set by other top contenders, highlighting the subjective criteria in award selections.
Anticipation builds as Gary and Blessing speculate on the teased surprises for Black Myth: Wukong, potentially an Xbox release or DLC. They discuss past exclusivity issues and the possibility of the game extending its reach to other platforms.
Blessing (48:44):
"But I guess where I'm coming down on it again to the point is popularity."
Gary (50:25):
"It pretty much at parody, right? A series X and maybe it's a series S."
The conversation reveals concerns over technical challenges and platform exclusivity, referencing previous instances like Baldur's Gate 3 and expressing optimism that the game will eventually be available on Xbox within the year.
The hosts introduce Imperial, a new sci-fi action RPG slated for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. They provide initial impressions based on the trailer, comparing its aesthetic and gameplay elements to titles like Devil May Cry and the Ys series.
Blessing (53:32):
"It looks cool."
Gary (54:51):
"It actually looks really fucking good."
Blessing describes the game as offering intense combat, character customization, and a mission to uncover a monolith from a lost civilization, positioning it as a promising addition to the action RPG genre.
The episode briefly covers additional news items:
Koei Tecmo plans to double its workforce to 5,000 employees, shifting focus towards AAA game development while stepping back from the mobile market.
SEGA announces a remaster of Virtua Fighter 5, titled Virtua Fighter 5 Revo, set for a winter release on Steam.
Donkey Kong Land joins Nintendo Switch Online, and Bandai Namco acquires the publishing rights for Shenmue 3, with a PS5 release scheduled for January 2, 2025.
Flight Simulator 2024 garners praise for its stunning visuals and VR support, although some debate its inclusion in award categories.
The episode concludes with playful banter and a humorous attempt to unbox the PlayStation 30th Anniversary edition. Though they don’t fully open the box, their excitement showcases the camaraderie and light-hearted nature of the podcast.
Gary (71:25):
"This is the Pro. This 30th anniversary PS5 Pro is hot."
Blessing (73:00):
"Yes, we still do. You're wrong. I fight for you wrong."
Barrett chimes in with humor regarding the unboxing mishaps, emphasizing the show's entertaining and informal atmosphere.
Blessing on Apple TV Gift:
(02:12) "Oh, man. So Gary got me an Apple TV. Holy shit. Look. Look at this."
Gary on Game Quality vs. Popularity:
(25:05) "I don't think it's one of the best action games I've ever played."
Blessing on Award Voting:
(21:27) "By fans. Yes."
Gary on Future of Game Awards:
(41:10) "The problem that you have here... is a subjective thing."
