It seems likely Monster Under Wilds will overtake it this weekend. Monster Under Wilds is currently the second most played game on Steam behind only Valve's own counter strike two with an incredible 1,076,024 concurrence. Very impressive numbers right there. Is it? Does this surprise you?

And I think we all knew that it was one of the most anticipated games of the year. It's falling at a perfect time where it's the new year. Sure, we've had a lot of big titles come out, but we've all been anticipating Monster Hunter. It's exciting. It's. I think people know from world and beyond if you've played these games that you know how good it is. So this isn't crazy to me, but I mean the number 7th most played game ever on Valve's platform, that's pretty wild to me. Right. That's huge. I guess maybe I didn't think it was going to go over a million, But I mean 1.3 million in 24 hours is the peak is huge right now. There's close to a million at about 955,000. So massive numbers.

Yeah. I mean this one doesn't surprise me in the sense that Monster Hunter has always been ever growing.

Yes.

You know, it had like I'll say maybe a decade, a decade. A decade and a half ago. Monster Hunter was big in certain territories right Like, Japan was huge on Monster Hunter. As you've been getting more and more titles, you've seen it grow and grow more, right? I think I remember on the. It was either on the Wii, it might have been on Wii U. I had a friend named Brandon in high school and I remember him like inviting me over to play video games and he busted out his Wii U and I was like, you're the only person I know who has a Wii U. This might have been college actually, because I don't think the Wii U was out. When I was in high school, he busted out his Wii U and I was like, oh, I didn't know people had a Wii U. Let's play Smash. He was like, oh, I got this game, Monster Hunter. It was like Monster Hunter. Try Ultimate Edition or some shit like. Like that. And I was like, damn. All right. Like you're out here playing Monster Hunter. All right, cool. And then like slowly, over time, I'll see it creep up of just people in the west like playing Monster Hunter, right? It slowly having this takeover. And then Monster Hunter world, I I think was the one that really blew it wide open as far as it infiltrating worldwide and like how big Monster Hunter can be and it resonating with a worldwide audience. I think from that you look at those numbers, right? Monster in the World did very, very great. Capcom's bestselling title ever. You of course get rise on on the switch, right? But now you have the biggest new installment on current gen, right? Something that is made to take advantage of like most, most modern hardware. Although we'll talk about PC in a second because the PC performance apparently not great. But I think this has been a the story in the making for Monster Hunter. And I think right now I look at this and I'm like, okay, cool. Good for Capcom. They have. They've found a franchise that is consistently hitting as long as they're treating it well, right? As long as they're, you know, making the moves to make sure that Monster Hunter can keep up with that demand and like deliver for their audience and not show that.

And they've shown that one DLC vote on number one DLC on that list.

Yeah. Oh yeah. With Iceborn.

Yep, exactly.

And Capcom just has the stuff. Even when Capcom misses, I look at their misses that I'm like, I wasn't that bad of a miss though, right? Like Ex Exo Primal. That was a fun game. That might have been a miss, but like they tried something different and like, I don't know, I had fun with the time I played with that game.

Right.

And like I could say that for I guess other perceived, like recent Capcom misses. I'm not talking about like you know, the stuff in the old day. But yeah, like good for them. I think again this is going to be good for them going on in the future. As far as the sustainability of Capcom, the sustainability of like what they have going on with various franchises. All right. Monster Hunter is bringing in money, which means that they can probably use that money to support some of the other games. Right. What was the strategy action one that came out?

Path of the Goddess. I think Monster Hunters allow swings like that to happen and so overall this is good news. I would say.

Bless Story number two Monster Hunter Wilds Capcom Responds to Performance Issues on PC this is Jordan Midler at Video Games Chronicle. Capcom has responded to performance issues faced by PC players of Monster Hunter Wilds. Monster Hunter Wilds was released on Friday and almost as soon as the PC version was in the public's hands, players reported issues with optimization, performance and more. The game, which has received praise from fans outside of the performance issues, hit almost 1 million concurrent Steam players on launch night. Now, Capcom has responded to the issues and has provided some suggestions to fans as to how to fix their performance problems. A post on Monster Hunter status, the franchise's official support account, reads Quote if you're experiencing any initial issues with Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam, please try updating your graphics driver, turning off compatibility mode, and then readjust your settings. End quote in the linked post on the Monster Hunter support website, Capcom has suggested several steps that could fix the issues, including updating drivers, adding the game's folder and files to a player's antivirus exception list, and more. Quote if you still experience issues, please also try the troubleshooting steps on the official Monster Hunter Wilds troubleshooting and issue reporting thread posted on the Steam community page as they contain more detailed and additional steps that may help resolve your issue. Mike, have you seen any of this going around?

No, I haven't. I'm going to need the chat and you to fill me in on this because I played all day yesterday on PC. I did not have any issues that I could see. Greg wasn't too happy with my frame rate, but all in all I was playing and having a wonderful time. Zero issues. I updated my drivers. Game seemed to run just fine on Steam for me.

Mike I'M going to jump in to an additional VGC article. They had a different article where they went a little bit more into detail about some of the things they say. The publisher Excuse me, the publisher may be less pleased by the initial reaction to the PC version, which currently sits at mixed reviews, according to the game's Steam page. While many appear to be loving the game, others have been complaining about PC performance, with some claiming that even with relatively powerful setups, they're struggling to get smooth gameplay out of it. Quote I understand that new games are becoming more demanding and people are expected to upgrade, but this is absurd, wrote reviewer Coda, who has four hours of gameplay on record. Quote I'm aware this isn't the first instance of new games having poor performance on launch because the same thing happened with World, but it feels inexcusable at this point. I am by no means saying that the game is bad, but in its current state you should probably consider waiting for a more stable release. That Twisted Metal guy who also has four hours on record wrote, this game is so horribly optimized. The last launch I had an experience like this was Cyberpunk. Frame gen will give you will give you your FPS with horrid ghosting, upscaling hammers CPU while barely touching GPU 1080 offers 10 to 20 FPS increase over 4K without frame gen game looks like an oil painting and just flat out refuses to load some textures on high and My card has 16 gigabytes of VRAM nowhere near maxing out the game requirements on high. This is a huge disappointment. End quote oh no. Other reviews like that of Tenkobino who has 3.5 hours, state that the game's open beta ran perfectly fine with an excellent rating score on Benchmark, but that the final game runs like absolute sludge, suggesting that this is an issue that may be at least patchable for some players.

All right, well there's the big heads up for you. If you're a big time PC player, you want the best performance possible. You want to save your money before you buy something that might not run as well as you want it to. You got to read those reviews and be mindful of it.

Yeah, I think the big thing to point out is it seems mixed. Right. The Steam reviews literally are in that, you know, mixed area and obviously like we're hearing anecdotal of. All right, like you're playing on PC and you're not experiencing many problems. Yeah, yeah, no problems. And then you have other people online that are. It is the PC thing of so many different builds.

What's your rig? What kind of specs do you got in there? What are you running it on? Yeah, all that goes into everything on that.

[Snowbike Mike]

Do we, Mike, when this happens, do you, I guess, hold it over the developer? Is this a thing that you think is avoidable? Like, what. What is the right move when it comes to these PC releases that we're seeing consistently? Like, not have as good performance, like, across these different builds?

[Blessing Adioha Jr.]

I always turn to Andy Cortez and of course, Digital Foundry for the vision and the knowledge about, hey, what should I be looking for? Is this running the way it should be optimized in the way that I, as the consumer want it? I think as a consumer, you should be mindful.

[Snowbike Mike]

Right.

[Blessing Adioha Jr.]

If it's not running up to snuff, if it's going to give you poor performance and you're going to question your $60 to $70 purchase, an hour to two hours in, you should definitely be mindful of this kind of stuff because, yeah, I want this game to be optimized. There's multiple betas. There's no excuse that this game shouldn't be optimized and good to go here on day one, but we've seen a lot of day one patches fix this kind of stuff. There's always issues, it seems like, with PC, with the different spectrums of PCs that you could have. My friend, sad boy Sean could be running on his 20, 2080 and still trying to put together with super glue and duct tape, you know, so, yeah, I don't know. It depends on the rig. We're kind of blessed here in this office to have the very best. And so I see it on that side.

So it's tough.

I don't really get to see the worst of the worst.

Yeah, this is one that I know is tough on the development side.

Right.

Just because as we talk about all the different builds and supporting all these different things and you don't. You might not have like, all of the, you know, cases out there as far as. Oh, man. Okay, this person is going to be running this with this specific thing with this specific thing in it. Oh, it turns out our game doesn't run that well on that. On that skill on that platform. I do think that the turnaround on how quick. How quick can those fixes be? How much can you communicate with your audience as far as, like, the specific kind of fixes that they're looking for and, like, the stuff that you are prioritizing and, like, you know, the stuff that you think are going to fix the most for the, for the biggest, I guess priority of people like you need to get, get in front of that and communicate very actively in these moments. I honestly think that's the more. That's the thing I look at more in these cases than anything else. I think the rough thing as far as well, why release on PC? Why are you, why are you releasing day and date on PC if the PC stuff isn't up to snuff? But then you go back to story number one, those million million concurrent players. Like it's that thing of well, we're gonna get that money.

So I mean out of the one, how big of the piece of pie is having issues, right. If you were to break down that 1.3 million that is on Steam right there. So that's PC players.

[Snowbike Mike]

Yeah.

[Blessing Adioha Jr.]

What portion of the percentage of players is having issues on this? How big is that? And you also, you know, thankfully with Steam you can refund the game, can wait for it to be in a better state and then jump back in. It's day one, everybody's feeling that fomo, they want to come in. So you're going to jump in. If it doesn't run well now you get put up with the question of you can refund this and stop right now. You can push through and just keep playing. Of course you're going to wait until the it gets patched. Now the question is how fast can the development team get on this?

Right.

We have Friday heading into the weekend. Capcom here you think about like where does this update land? You gotta be thinking they're working overtime for this. Right. They're gonna work all through the weekend to make sure it's ready to rock and roll for you. I expect this to probably be fixed by Monday within the week. You would think this, you'd hope so. This is a big deal. Yeah, yeah.

And just for more context, right. Like we talk about like the concurrence and what more than a million players in the first 24 hours.

Like compare that to the total amount of reviews on Steam is 14,000. Right. And so like just to kind of talk about your question and kind of reconfirm.

Like we might get some at launch but then look at how many people are playing it concurrently and you know, the very small percentage of people actually taking the time to talk about and review it like on the platform. I don't think it's going to be that fast of a turnaround of Monday. It's going to be fixed. But I. I would expect. Expect in the next couple weeks.

Like, how bad was world and how long did it take for them to turn that around? If anybody in chat remembers way back.

When, and I think that's a. That's a good call. As far as, like, Mike's question of, you know, how many. How many people is this affecting in Bear's point of, like, you look at the number of reviews we. We've talked about the vocal minority in the past on this show. As far as, like, when you're somebody who is having a bad experience, or if you're somebody that has something to say, you guess what, you are more likely to say it than somebody who's. If I'm playing Monster, guess what? How many times have I reviewed something on Steam? I don't think ever. I don't think I've ever. And, like, granted, I have a platform here that I can just talk into a microphone. Y'all are going to get my opinions. But for the most part, if I'm playing a game, like, if I'm playing whatever game on a platform, there is not really a high chance that I'm going to go and, like, review it. Now, if I'm somebody where I was looking forward to this game for years and years and years, and I pick it up day one and it is not working well on my skew and like, it ruined my Friday that I took off of work. Guess what?

Maybe I'm going on Steam. Maybe I'm going on Steam and maybe I'm making my voice heard here.

Which you should. Which I think is very valid. I look at the mixed thing there as far as how those reviews have come in, and I do look at that. I am like, oh, yeah, it's probably a very small amount. Like, in the grand scheme, not small amount. As far as, like, you know, it's 10 people. No, like, I would imagine, like, if this. If the number is 50,000 people, right, that's a large number of people that are experiencing issues. But then when you look at the million people that are playing the game, like, okay, cool, we got to figure that out for the 50,000 people that are having. They're having struggles here. But you still. I think you weigh that and still go, all right, cool, that was a successful PC release as Capcom, as the Monster on your team. I don't want to bring in some super chats for you. Printy dude writes in and says, happy for wild start. But I think it's time to admit that RE engine wasn't meant for open world games. Really hope the next RE does not try the same. Mike, how do you feel about the way Monster Hunter Wilds plays? I guess as far as performance in general, like, are you noticing anything?

It's running well for me. I, I like the look of it. I think it's very pretty. I'm not having major performance issues. Right. So for me so far I, I give it a thumbs up. So yeah, I'd like to learn more about like what you're feeling with that. Right. I guess when you go into those really nice cutscenes, it looks beautiful and looks incredible. When I'm playing in the game, it looks exactly how I want it to look.

Yeah, I don't mind it. I mean from what I've played of Both Dragon's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds, I, I mean it's, it's not like I'm out here playing, I don't know, like Horizon or, or like Ghost or I'm trying to think of just open world games that I like.

Right.

[Snowbike Mike]

But I, I think it works like I. There are frame things that I've experienced in both Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter Wilds where I'm like, man, I wish this is way smoother but outside of that, the worlds I think look beautiful.

And I, yeah. And there's a lot going on. They're very systemic too. Both of these games. Like there's just a lot going on beneath the hood of these games that impresses me as a player when I see the monsters fighting each other and like, you know, the different animations, the different phases and shit that's going on in Monster Hunter Wilds or like when I'm climbing a. A cyclops in Dragon's Dogma and it like, you know, takes me and shakes me and FL and flicks me off. That stuff happening in real time I think is dope and I think the engine so far full on experience from re these games in RE Engine. I don't have that complaint as far as these open world things. Like you look at that and you're like, oh, that's Minecraft. But at the same time there's just something about the humans and how bad their costumes are. And like, how off they look in this world, which I get. It's an isekai. That's the point of an isekai. But like, ah, it's like you're almost there, but like you're just way far off at the same time. You know, it's like you're hitting the arrow. It's like you're hitting a bow and arrow at a target and you miss the target and you hit a civilian's face is what I look at this and see. It has this insane collector's feel of you're ripping packs, you're collecting awesome looking art cards. Right? Then you also have the side of battling that can keep you in there and engaged. It was the perfect mix. I think it's gonna continue to do well. Every single time there's a new update, I jump back in, get a couple of packs, look at the cards. You know, I think it's just fun. It's exciting.

Two weeks later, I've got everything. I'm sitting there going, oh, man, what am I gonna do now? Right. And so now I have to wait three months for the next update. That's a long time to sit there and twiddle my thumbs. And unless you're super into battling, then you're like, you and I, where it's like, I haven't. I'm not doing it every day anymore.

Yeah. I think when it. When it feels more attainable in that first season where it's just the three packs and it is, oh, we're all collecting this together. We're all trying to catch them all. I think that was such a special, like, oh, there's a fire. Like this game. Like, there's a fire in this game that, like, all of us are flocking to. I think now that we. We are. So, yeah, it's like, you can't trade any of this, like, full art, like, star cards, but anything below that, like, if you trade, like, a four diamond or whatever, the person that you trade with also has to give you a four diamond. So it, like, creates this kind of, like, idea of equivalent exchange. Law of equivalent Exchange. A Full Metal Alchemist.

For mobile of like the pack opening isn't too long. It's just long enough where you can do it on a short work break. You could do it in between classes. You can do it when you wake up. You can do it anytime, right? Like it's simply swipe up, click on it. Hey, I've opened up three packs. That takes me five minutes maximum. I've gotten my fill and you can either stay or you can leave, but they got you actively coming back. So it's like it's the perfect build for being on mobile. It's. It's pretty good.

Yeah. Story number five the Witcher 4 director responds to speculation that CD Projekt CD Projekt changed series face oh no. This is Wesley Hoole at IGN. The director of the Witcher 4 has clarified that a new video features the same in game model of Siri after some had thought her face looked different. Yesterday, CD Projekt released a behind the scenes look at the Witcher 4's cinematic reveal trailer and fans noticed two brief clips that show new looks at Siri up close. These clips zoom in on Siri's face as the camera spins around her character model. The comments are packed with fans highlighting how Siri looks slightly different in the face in these moments that she does. In the cinematic reveal trailer itself, one commenter called Siri at the 5:47 mark the perfect representation of a slightly older Siri. I'm well happy she looks fantastic, says the quote. This initial speculation tapped into a response from some corners of the Internet that Ciri looked quote, ugly in the Witcher 4 based on her appearance in the reveal trailer. The response to the response to the two new clips was overwhelmingly positive from commenters, and some reports suggested CD Projekt might have changed Ciri's face after the supposed backlash. And this last game that we played, we did just that. We were like, all right, we're giving Zachary zero space to breathe because if we let Zachary build, he is going to decimate all of us.

And so it got to the point where like Zachary has nine life left. The rest, the other three. Right. The rest of us, we're doing really good. Like we got a lot of health. But then I looked at Zachary and I looked at the rest of the crew and I did go, this game is more fun with Zachary in it. I'm not going to take you out this turn. I'll give you one more turn.

At home? I have a 4080 and a very old chipset because that PC is probably getting near seven years old, maybe 10. That was a pre built PC but I did upgrade the graphics card. So like at home, 4080 here inside the building. I don't know Barrett on the chip, but I do know that we have the 50 and, and the one I'm playing on. So that's your two PC specs from your boy Snow Mike. Mike. One at home ran just fine with Monster Hunter 4080. Very old stuff behind that. And then at work ran very well.

Yeah. BJ Bernardo also writes in and says, excuse me, what type of PC builds the crew have at work and at home? I feel like the cave crew don't run into a lot of PC issues with new games.

And I think what, I mean it's a variety, but I think most of us are because our jobs are playing video games. We're trying to like have the latest and greatest. At my work desk I have like a Razer laptop, like a Razer gaming laptop.

And that's got a 30 in it. That's old.

Yeah, it's an old, it's an old one at home I also have a 30 because I, Andy gave me his like old 30 and so I guess I'm not like, I'm not on the cutting edge stuff. Right. But I don't know. My 3080 has been holding me down.

I have a 3060 ti at home and it's solid. Yeah, I don't play like anything like super like I'm trying to think of like a super beautiful, ridiculous looking game. But yeah, plays games, fun.

I did struggle a lot with Black Myth Wukong, but I think that was more so because my, my GPU was just dying.

I then had to bring it to work and I was like, guys, I think it's my gpu. And like Roger spent a whole day looking at all the parts of my PC and then realized that it was my gpu. And I was like, I told you.

That was the most, like, Roger is big uncle energy. And that was the most big uncle energy Roger has ever had. Yeah, him, like, sitting on the floor, pulling apart your PC and just, like, looking over all the different pieces.

Meanwhile, the right. The correct answer was the first answer that came up on Reddit. When I looked up, I was like, my video won't turn on. And the first thing I hopped that popped up on Google was, ah, your GPUs probably.
